Kazembe Kazembe, Police Boss Ordered To Compensate Wife of January 14 2019 Police Shooting Victim

By Jane Mlambo| High Court judge, Edith Mushore has ordered home affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe and ZRP Commissioner General Godwin Matanga to compensate the family of the late Kelvin Tinashe Choto who was shot by police officers during the January 14 2019 shootings in Chitungwiza.

The state was ordered to pay ZWL$2 016 000 to Choto’s wife Varaidzo Chiyanike and a similar amount to Anenyasha Choto, the child with a further ZWL$168 000 to the wife for nervous shock and trauma.

Choto’s father will also be paid ZWL$168 000 for nervous shock and trauma.

In total, the state will pay ZWL$4 368 000 to the Choto family.

Their lawyer Fiona Iliff said she was happy that justice had been saved on a matter that took two years to conclude.

“I am extremely relieved, its been two years now,we have been waiting for this judgement and the family have really had a difficult time and finally achieved justice,” said Iliff.
