Tinashe Sambiri|Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe has described as madness the decision by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to instruct pupils who have tested positive for COVID-19 to return home without prescribed remedies.

According to PTUZ president, Takavafira Zhou, 700 schools have been hit by the pandemic.

“Madness is when Min of Education offcls order covid 19 +ve pupils to stop coming to schools for 2 wks and send them home in numbers where there are virtual no health officials to attend them. Cry the beloved people of Mberengwa (chapungu High), and Gokwe (St Paul’s Gokwe Sec) etc…

700 schls have covid infctns ranging from 1 to 175 per schl in Zimbabwe. Boarding schls are fast becoming quarantine centres with very little assistance from gvt or health workers. Many covid +ve pupils in primary and rural day schls have been ordered to stay home for 2 wks,” Zhou wrote on Twitter.
