By Political Reporter-The mysterious death of Air Commodore Peter Zimondi, Director-General of Administration in the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ), marks the completion of the first phase in a targeted elimination of Army Generals, ZimEye has learned.
Zimondi, a highly influential military figure, succumbed on Friday in Harare to injuries sustained in a suspicious road accident near Chitungwiza in July.
After spending weeks in intensive care, he never regained total health.
His family confirmed the tragic loss, casting a dark shadow over Zimbabwe’s military elite.
Zimondi, who had held his prominent position since February 2018, was closely connected to the nation’s security apparatus.
He was the brother of the late Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Commissioner-General Paradzai Zimondi and cousin to the late Air Force Commander Perrance Shiri.
Both men also died under suspicious circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Insiders within the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO) have revealed that a second assassination list targeting five more Generals is now in play.
These officers are reportedly being marked for their loyalty to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who led the 2017 coup that unseated President Robert Mugabe.
Mnangagwa is mobilising his supporters to block Chiwenga from occupying the highest office.
