The Ministry of Health and Child Care is scrambling to address the concerns of nursing staff at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, following a protest on March 17, 2025.

The demonstration was sparked by deteriorating conditions at the hospital, including a severely impacted water supply .

In response to the protests, the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Donald Mujiri, issued a statement assuring the public that the government is prioritizing the improvement of the hospital’s water supply.

Plans are underway to repair the 2.5-mega-litre tank as soon as possible, aiming to increase reservoir capacity and secure a more consistent water supply from the Harare City Council.

The protests at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital are part of a broader trend of health worker demonstrations worldwide.

These protests often highlight concerns about working conditions, wages, benefits, safety, and social issues . In some cases, they have led to improved working conditions and government concessions, as seen in recent protests by Anganwadi and ASHA workers in India.
