By Chrispen Tabvura| Former Minister of National Healing in Zimbabwe’s GNU, came out guns blazing on all Shona speaking people, accusing them all for participating in the infamous Gukurahundi massacre of the 1980s.
Mzila Ndlovu emotionally accused all Shonas, of involvement in killing Ndebeles while addressing guests at the National Transitional Justice Working Group Zimbabwe in Bulawayo on Wednesday.
The Gukurahundi massacres were masterminded by Enos Nkala (a Ndebele) on then Prime Minister Robert Mugabe’s instructions.
But Ndlovu charged saying, “I would like this to be known that, all Shona speaking people are accomplices of the Gukurahundi massacre that killed more than 20 000 people of Matabeleland in the 80s. To date, some of our Shona colleagues are quiet about the genocide and opt to keep it silent, while our hearts are bleeding as victims,” he said.
He also went on to explain why in his view his attacks on Shonas are justified. “I was arrested several times while on duty as national healing minister, and again our Shona friends did not intervene,” he said.
He continued, “In 1984 my relative was tied to a tree in Plumtree and his wife was raped by Shona speaking red beret soldiers who said in Shona, ‘tinoda kukuratidza kuti mushona anoberekwa sei,’ meaning – we would like to show you how Shonas are pro-created.
“The rape resulted in a son who is now an adult, and we do not even know the real father as the ten raped the woman,” he said emotionally.
“Also in Lupane, in 1985, teachers were buried alive at their schools, and there are bones which are now protruding at the corner of a class room in that mass grave. Schools were closed when teachers fled to the neighbouring SA for safety, resulting in many of Matabeleland children’s education nose diving.
“Today statistics of pass rates in this region is a reflection of the Gukurahundi massacres that scared away a number of Ndebele speaking teachers to other countries where they are living in squalor. To my disappointment, the perpetrator is still in power and is not even willing to heal the wounds of the victims of his cruelty,” he charged.

Don’t twist historical facts to suit your argument. Well-known fact by who? Lobengula gave Rudd all of Mashonaland to spite the Shonas he despised with a passion. It was poetic justice when, having failed to get the expected gold in Mashonaland, Rhodes (who had earlier bought the concession from Rudd) decided to look for it in Matabeleland. This culminated in the invasion of Matabeleland in 1893. That some Shona victims of Lobengula’s excesses joined the whites in the war to defeat Lobengula is a fact, so did some disgruntled Ndebeles!
It is a well known fact that King Lobhengula was tricked into signing the concession as the Rev. Helm (uHelemu) who was the interpreter misrepresented the facts to him. It is worth noting that the Mashona fought on the side of the colonialists against the Ndebele. It is the utterances of people like you who fan tribal hatred. How can you compare tribal wars that were fought between equally armed combatants and the massacre of unarmed civilians by their own government.
I am shona and I am very proud. that is your opinion ndhlovu and you are entitled to it. you do not build at all.I wonder how you became a minister. you are poison. Anyway uri duzvi. saka mashona acho uchaita sei navo. inja elotufu.
I doubt if Mzila said that, l would only believe if lsaw the video. Where is the portifolio of evidence?
I am a Shona and victim of Gukurahundi and l am Zapu now. Not only myself but hundreds other Shonas were Gukurahundi victims. However, being Shona, l cant remember a single Shona who was killed by Gukurahundi tribal army led by Mugabe the Shona.
I was beaten and tortured because l ama Shona who speaks Ndebele as first language. If l were Ndebele, l would have died in August 1983.
Mzila, although esuza, has every right to see all Shona as guilty of Gukurahundi. Mzila would be right to hate me for surviving Gukurahundi because l survived because of being Shona.
With what l empirically expirienced under the evil hands of Gukurahundi, l would NOT BLAME MZILA for his geniune anger noma esuza.
Uyasuza ngoba ngangingeke ngithi Gukurahundi ngibulaleni namaNdebele. I was happy to survive but my anger with Gukurahundi and Mugabe, Mnangagwa and Mujuru will never cede.
Here is a bitter man. Lost out on politics. Lost out on life and now deranged with hatred he is willing to take the whole country down with him to damnation. May the next generation fare better than his. I pray.
Shonas and Ndebeles are one.Politicians have tried to no avail to antagonize and devide them.Ndebeles and Shona do not belong to a political party.
If all Shonas are guilty of government’s Gukurahundi atrocities of about 4 years (1983 to 1987), then all Ndebele are guilty of Lobengula’s attrocities against the Shonas for over 60-years (1837 to 1897). This includes destroying our civilisation, selling our motherland to Rudd thru the Rudd Concession of 1888, raiding Shona villages for grain and cattle with utmost brutality, leaving whole villages dying of hunger, The failure to correct the stupidity of their King Lobengula of signing away the motherland to Rhodes thru Rudd, required the death of thousands of innocent Shonas in the first and second Chimurengas to correct a wrong that only Ndebeles should have fought to correct. Shonas did not leave the task of liberating this land from whites to the descendants of the “King” who signed it away. Thats selflessness from a people who had lost everything they held dear to both the Ndebele people and the white colonial settlers. Shonas need praises from their Ndebele Benefactors, not vilification by such nonentities as Mzila. Can someone tell me how an avowed tribalist like Mzila Ndlovu was appointed Minister of National Healing in the GNU? some appointments!!!!
Mr Mzila you need to visit a doctor before its too late. How can you make a statement like that. You are a racist and you don’t deserve to hold any political office in this beautiful nation.
I don’t support what happened during the Gukurahundi but your statement is very disgusting boring, smelling and very racist and it shows you don’t think before you speak.
We are not all like that and i forgive you.
Thank you.
I think Kapfupi did not say anything wrong here. He only asked a question.
Your anger should be directed to Mzila who has made a very damaging assumption about all shonas.
I also note you say Msila sorry Mzila is speaking his mind. So who are you to froth at Kapfupi who is also speaking his mind. You are also allowed to speak your mind without insulting anyone unless of course you are hit where it hurts.
Have a nice day……
Can you imagine we have such leaders with such fatal brains.
If such people had power, they would surely commit genocide. Such was never the spirit of Joshua Nkomo, if any victims can take a role model.
Mzila, you should apologise to both Ndebeles and Shonas for you statements if it’s true that you said them. I am a Shona who is a victim of Gukurahwindi. In our house we used to live with war veterans, all of whom were ex-Zipra. They were all Ndebeles. ZAPU was not Ndebele or Shona but Zimbabwean. I could tell details of what we went through as a family but it’s not important at the moment. I do not deny that there were probably more Shona soldiers who participated in this act than Ndebele ones, if any. I honestly don’t know but it’s most likely they (Shona soldiers) the majority but this does not speak to all Shona people’s attitudes to their Ndebele counterparts.
This man should stop making such a dangerous statement, to incite ethnic violence. Why is he silent on his fellow dissidents? Who the hell is he threatening as a dzviti?
Tundebvu itwo tinotwuita imwe gukurahundi futi
Mndebele
Clearly you missed Kapfupi’s point and have exposed the same blinkerness as Mzila. Read what was said objectively and see if you will come out with the same generalisation and outburst.
I agree Kapfupi’s choice of analogy is ill advised.

Kapfupi you are stupid, idiotic, brainless creature marauding as a great shona because you fucked Ndebele women. Its a pity that you boast about such an act.If I may be open to you no Ndebele is a prostitute in the diaspora.Only shona women in SA,UK and other places and if you need evidence of this I,LL send you videos of this.Mzila is speaking his mind as an individual not as an elected Kalanga to present Kalangas.Your foolishness keeps you blinkered and you want to insult our sisters because of a person you deem rowdy.Wake up man and make mature statements.I wonder what kind of a teacher you are or you were.Sis maan.
Some radicalism expose hidden agendas. The timing of this statement says something about Moses Mzila. Many Shonas like many Ndebeles are now angry against Mugabe including those he used in the Gukurahundi but alas here comes the “radical” Moses Mzila. “All Shonas are Gukurahundi” In whose interest is this statement? Who benefits politically from such a divisive statement by a former national leader? I am beginning to see Zanuism and falsehood from Moses Mzila. Its a message to say to the Shonas “hey unite” the Ndebele hate all of you. He knows that not all Shonas were Gukurahundi. Infact Shona supporters of Zapu had been killed before and some Ndebeles were active supporters of Gukurahundi like some whites. Zimbabweans must watch out for these Zanupf CIO deployed pseudo radical Ndebeles or Kalangas like Moses Mzila.
Mzila I lived and worked in Matebeleland South in the Early 90s. I made great friends with real victims of Gukurahundi. I had even the privilege to meet Gayigusu at Mawabeni frequently and shared pleasantries. I am shona and was not in the uniformed forces. I was merely a teacher. People on the ground do not share your thinking. Even upto now people live well have intermarried and moved on but have not forgotten the era.
So for you to say that is an insult to the people you say you represent. These could be husbands wives children aunts uncles etc, because people have intermarried and assumed very solid relationships. You included. So that leaves us you cursing your own people.
Whilst there I also had an opportunity to bonk ndebele women. Sisters mothers wives of other people. As a shona I was very popular with women.
Should I therefore say all ndebele women are bitches????.
Playing victim again baba Mzila. No wonder Welsh man kicked u out. Would it be true as reader below puts it to u that u must also bear the cross of Lobengula . Be specific who u accuse as some of us identify with the victims of Gukurahundi.
Mzila am appalled and can only wish that you have been miss quoted.
Compoud stupid idiot.I dn’t comment on articles bt this one made my blood run wth emotions.A dangerous generilisation.Watch ur filth mouth or shut it up!
Wema mfo would you accept therefore that your logic can also be used to argue that all Ndebeles are guilty of Lobengula’s brutalities. You are a very careless speaking man and that you were a minister is proof why Zimbabwe is where it is now.
