Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo| Controversial Remnant Ministries leader Phillip Mugadza staged a one man demonstration in Masvingo last Saturday- calling for President Robert Mugabe’s immediate resignation as a result of his failed economic policies.
Mugadza rose to prominence last year when he was arrested following the one man protest he held in Victoria Falls ahead of the Zanu PF annual conference.
He spent several weeks behind bars.
The outspoken pastor held the demonstration in the city centre saying Mugabe must resign because his government has brought the country to a hault as a result of controversial and failed policies.
Mugadza said Mugabe was not God and he should hand over power and give others a chance to lead the nation.
The pastor recently caused a stir in Masvingo after chaining himself on a pole to indicate the lack of freedom in the country.
“Zimbabwe is chained and there is no freedom of expression and association. Those who oppose the government are brutally silenced. That is not a Godly way of leading. There is need for total freedom from oppression. The government has done nothing to improve the plight of the people. I came to my home town(Masvingo) to deliver this strong message. I will not be intimidated. I will travel to all towns around Zimbabwe to express the same message,” said Mugadza.
The controversial pastor addressed passers-by at an open space near Glow Petroleum in the city centre-a few metres from Masvingo Central Police Station and the Central Intelligence Organisation(CIO) provincial offices. Mugadza was accompanied by the president of the Christian Voice International, Pastor Clement Zenda, who said religious leaders should come out in the open and speak against violence and intimidation.
Mugadza drew the attention of scores of people who showed keen interest in his message, an indication the people of Zimbabwe are hard pressed by social and political challenges.
