Another accident has occurred in Kwekwe resulting in a man and his wife’s death.
The Steelmakers company CEO, Mr Alexander Johnson, was last night involved in a head on collision with another vehicle and died at the scene.
Johnson, together with his wife, passed away last night night after smashing into another vehicle whose driver is said to have been drunk. Sources told ZimEye.com Johnson and his wife died in the head collision at around 7pm near Sable Chemicals, 10 km from Kwekwe.
Disturbing pictures in ZimEye.com’s possession show Mr Johnson’s body covered in blankets at the scene. His wife’s body also lay there with him.
The man’s driver (name withheld) who was alive at the scene, soon died at hospital, sources said.
A police report could not be obtained at the time of writing.
Meanwhile, a citation last night read stating that: Mr.Johnson was a graduate of the Kerala University, where he majored in Chemistry (Physics and Maths), and MA English Literature.
He began his career as quality controller in the R & D Dept. He joined Steelmakers as General Manager in 1996, overseeing the inception of Steelmakers Zimbabwe. He was appointed Group General Manager in charge of projects in Southern Africa in 2001.
Johnson was head of business development projects in Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Having worked in various steel-plants in India and Kenya, he wielded a wealth of experience and technical expertise.
His shrewdness as a businessman saw him being voted the ZNCC business man of the year 2002 and subsequently holding Executive posts in various business bodies including Midlands Chamber of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries where he served a term as President and another as National Vice President.
A philanthropist by nature, Johnson was a member of several charitable organisations and also as counselor at Midlands State University.
