The National AIDS Council (NAC) has expressed dismay at an incident in which a team of self declared prophets ordered three youths on Anti Retroviral Treatment(ART) to stop taking their medication.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage from various Non Governmental Organisations, according to NAC.

Three prophets from Johanne Marange Apostolic Church in Buhera District allegedly ordered the three who were on Anti Retroviral Treatment to stop taking the crucial drugs.

The three became critically ill after defaulting on their medication, according to NAC.

“We have received a disturbing report about three youths who have stopped taking their drugs after being instructed to do so by a team of prophets from Johanne Marange Church in Buhera.

We are therefore in the process of negotiating with various stakeholders to convince the youths to resume the taking of their drugs to avoid dire consequences,” said NAC in a statement last week.
