Concerned MDC-T supporters in the United Kingdom and Ireland have urged the new party leader Nelson Chamisa to talk to beleaguered rival Deputy President Thokozani Khuphe and resolve their differences.
In a media statement produced by the organising department of the UK and Ireland Province on Monday, the party members urged Chamisa to engage in dialogue with Khuphe for the good of the party and the nation.
“The organising department of the province would like to encourage Advocate Chamisa to get into serious dialogue with senior leaders like Dr Khuphe and others to ensure that tbeir concerns are addressed to the best advantage of the entire MDC-T family and the nation,” said the statement.
Chamisa and his co deputy President went into loggerheads on the leadership of the party shortly after the death of party leader Morgan Tsvangirai on Valentine’s day.
Chamisa was eventually endorsed by the party’s National Council as the party President through a process which Khuphe said was uncostitutional.
Khuphe maintains that she is the genuine leader of the party as she was elected by the party congress in 2014. Chamisa has since given her seven days which expires on Thursday to accept his leadership or be dismissed from the party.
Khuphe has since rubbished the ultimatum claiming that it is an illegal process.
The foreign based supporters further urged Chamisa to address issues of intra party violence that are rocking the party as a result of the leadership wrangle.
“We are also asking the party leadership to urgently flex its muscles to put an end to the ugly face of violence which is bedevilling some of our structures.”
The MDC-T has seen continous incidents of violence between Chamisa loyalists and Khuphe loyalists.
The violence went a gear up over the weekend where Bulawayo CBD was turned into a war zone as the party supporters clashed at the party offices in a two hour battle that left fifteen people hospitalised and property worth thousands of dollars damaged.
