By Paul Nyathi|Human rights activist Linda Masarira caused a major storm in the newly established MDC-T splinter party led by dismissed Deputy President Thokozani Khuphe.
Masarira who is a well known leader of social media movement #tajamuka, was elected as the National Spokesperson for the party with massive resistance from some party members.
The MDC-T members claimed that Masarira was not eligible to contest the standing committee elections of the party as she has not been an active member of the party for the required five years as provided for in the constitution.
Party members who spoke to ZimEye.com on the sidelines of the special congress said that Masarira was imposed into the party by the party leader Khuphe.
“We were shocked to hear that Linda was nominated unopposed for the spokesperson position,” said a member.
“When we saw her in attendance we thought she was only attending in solidarity we didn’t know that she was a nominee for a top position as that of spokesperson,” he said.
Masarira has been a known vocal critic of all the top political parties in the country. She has been preparing to stand this year’s elections as an independent candidate in Harare Central Constituency.
