MDC-USA Solidarity Statement with the Dr Khupe led MDC-T

MDC-USA congratulates the new MDC-T leadership under Dr Thokozani Khupe that was elected at the Extraordinary Congress held at Stanley Square, Bulawayo on Saturday, April 21, 2018.

As we inched closer to the harmonized elections, it was imperative that as MDC-T members, we go to the ballot box without confusion as to the leadership.

Our sacrosanct document, our constitution stipulates that Congress is the supreme organ of the party. No powers can be vested on the president of the party without Congress endorsing such powers. The power grab we witnessed after the death of our founding President Dr. Morgan Richard Tsvangirai was not only unconstitutional but was indeed nausiating and disturbing for a party fighting for democracy in a pariah state where there is no respect for the rule of law.

Now that the people have spoken and chosen Dr Khupe to lead the party until the next Congress, it is important for the Zimbabwe parliament and courts to respect the will of the people and reverse the illconceived rulings against the people’s party. We demand henceforth the reinstatement of Dr Khupe and any other member of parliament that was unprocedurally recalled from parliament. We demand that party property awarded to the unconstitutionalists by the courts be returned to its rightful owner. We demand that the Political Finance Act money that was illegally awarded to the unconstitutionalists be returned to its rightful owners. We urge anyone to desist from issuing or signing any checks as doing so may result in those individuals singularly and severally responsible for their actions in contravention of the law.

We demand that the unconstitutionalists cease and desist from using the party name MDC-T, party symbols and party slogans.

We invite all progressive minded Zimbabweans to join us in our quest to liberate our country from tyranny. We promise no reprisals against those that were misled by the unconstitutionalists when they return to the Big Tent. MDC-T is open for business once again and ALL are invited to join our party of excellence, the only party with a plan to bring the change we all seek.

We call for unity, peaceful co-existence and laser focus on the elections ahead. The draconian zanu pf government cannot be allowed to continue holding the country at ransom.

We call upon ALL Zimbabweans to demand free, fair and credible elections. We call upon the military junta to stop interfering with our political processes. We call upon SADC, AU, & the UN to insist on a fair plebiscite supervised by those bodies. And yes we still demand a diaspora vote.
