By Talent Gondo| Aggrieved aspiring candidates and their supporters have been given another week to lodge their complaints to the party’s elections body before the MDC T concludes the final list of those who will represent the party in the forthcoming polls.
The MDC-T resolved to extend the deadline for its primary elections to end of this week following the successful consensus process which saw the party come up with aspiring legislators and councillors who will run for office in this forthcoming elections.
MDC-T secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora revealed that the party had received a huge number of appeals by party members who complained of various anomalies.
“We are a democratic party and we have said those that were unfairly disqualified or unfairly defeated, should follow due process and raise their complaints.
Further, the holding of primary elections is a democratic process that is encouraged,” he said.
“There have been some instances where some candidates have tried to cheat in the election and we need, therefore, to tighten our systems, but overall, the primaries were good.”
Mwonzora, however, acknowledged that there were still a number of areas where primary elections had not yet been held.
“We haven’t been able to meet our deadlines and we have to deal with appeals that are coming. I think we will be through by the end of this week,” he said.
Among complaints raised by aspiring candidates were allegations of imposition of candidates, outright rigging and violence.
