By Own Correspondent| The MDC T faction led by Thokozani Khupe has fielded 110 candidates out of the 210 constituencies to contest for House of Assembly seats under the party’s ticket for the upcoming harmonised polls slated for July 30.
Spokesperson of the party, Linda Masarira told journalists (Monday) that the party managed to field only 110 candidates out of the 210 constituencies owing to “externally created challenges that have seen the party shaking but remaining firm”.
Said Masarira: “ZEC failed to avail the voter’s roll before nomination court day, perpetual verbal and physical abuse from the other political parties in particular the MDC Alliance.
However, this has not created a setback in our political vision and ambition as we have managed to field 110 Mps for the 2018 elections which is about 52.8 percent of the anticipated 210 seats,” said Masarira.
She said her party took into cognisance the participation of marginalised groups including women and youths.
“Considering women participation and the role of women in politics has also been part and parcel of our party as we have involved women and ensured that women play a critical role in politics.
Our ability as a party to mobilise and come up with a clear party structure that is immune to internal and intra party conflicts is really a clear indication that the party is geared and well prepared for the harmonised elections,” said Masarira.
