Obadiah Moyo Declares State Emergency As Cholera Kills 20

Jane Mlambo| Newly appointed Minister of Health and Child Care, Obadiah Moyo has told journalists that government is declaring the current cholera outbreak that has resulted in the death of 20 people while thousands of cases have been reported, a state of emergence.

Speaking during a tour of Beatrice Infectious Disease hospital today, Moyo said, “We are declaring it an emergency for Harare so to enable us to contain Cholera and other diarrheal diseases.”

He added that the outbreak could have been caused by someone who would have slept on the job, though he insisted that they are still looking into the causes of the problem.

Zimbabwe is currently battling to contain a cholera outbreak that has been reported in Gweru, Kwekwe, Harare and other cities.
