By Own Correspondent| Newly appointed Minister of Health and Child Care, Obadiah Moyo has declared the Harare cholera outbreak a state of emergency following the deaths of at least 20 people.

Dr Moyo revealed that his ministry had recorded over 2000 cholera cases sjnce the outbreak of the disease.

The minister made the declaration after visiting cholera patients at Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital.

Said Dr Moyo:

“We are also going to declare an emergency, not for the whole country at this stage but for Harare. We are declaring an emergency for Harare and this will enable us to contain the Cholera, typhoid and whatever else is going on… We need to have that opportunity to be able to ensure that we get rid of the problem as quickly as possible.

Like I said, We do not want any further deaths. If we do not create this disaster emergency situation we will carry on having so many cases. So this is done in order for us to control and contain the disease within the confined areas of the greater Harare and Glen and Budiriro in particular.”
