Terrence Mawawa|Renowned political analyst Dr Pedzisai Ruhanya has pointed out that the people of Zimbabwe are likely withdraw their obligation to be obedient to the government, given the impending economic mayhem.
“Social theorists posited that when the government fails to secure their natural rights (Locke) or satisfy the best interests of society (called the
“general will” in Rousseau), citizens can withdraw their obligation to obey, or change the leadership through elections or other means,” argued Dr Ruhanya.
He added:”You cannot just wake up and make critical and swift economic policies without wide
consultations with industry, labour and citizens and expect them to positively respond to your ECONOMIC DICTATORSHIP. People have rights. A social contract doesn’t
work that way!”
