Representatives of Zanu-PF, MDC-Alliance, MDC-T and the National Constitutional Assembly will battle it out in the Chitungwiza Ward 24 by-elections set for January 26 next year after successfully filing their papers on Friday at the Nomination Court sitting at the Chitungwiza Municipality head office.
The seat fell vacant after the death of Councillor Alice Chihambakwe of MDC-Alliance on October 30.
The ruling Zanu-PF will be represented by Ms Mercy Guvamombe, the MDC- Alliance by Mr Yotam Chagwada, MDC-T by Ms Jane Makovere and the National Constitutional Assembly by Mr Anderson Tsakeni.
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) nomination officer Mr Jairos Machona announced the final list of contestants after the sitting
“We are happy that the nomination process was very calm and all the four duly nominated candidates that came through had their papers in order. There are two ladies and two gentlemen.
“Since more than one candidate has been duly nominated in Ward 24 a poll shall take place on Saturday 26 January 2019, in accordance with Section 125 Subsection 4(b)of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13),” he said.
Chitungwiza has 25 councillors, 21 from the MDC-Alliance and four from Zanu-PF.
