By Own Correspondent| Independent legislator for Norton Temba Mliswa has defended the First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa for her role in mediating the doctors, government impasse which saw her meeting representatives of striking junior doctors.

The meeting between the first lady and the doctors held at State House last week saw the state media The Herald reporting that doctors had gone back to work, an assertion which the doctors refuted as false.

However, Mliswa said there was nothing wrong with the first lady mediating  and negotiating on behalf of government for the striking junior doctors to return to work.

He said her role as someone who was passionate about heath issues was justified.

Said Mliswa:

“Amai has always had a passion  for the health sector and there was nothing wrong with her meeting the doctors when they approached her. She has a role to play. Its not usurping powers but even at home, culturally children approach mothers to get a message to their fathers.”
