Former Dynamos and Gunners striker Norman Maroto recalled how he played football for 14 years with a badly operated knee.
Maroto, who scored goals for fun during his illustrious career with the Moses Chunga coached the Dynamos kidznet project.
His goal scoring instincts contributed to Dynamos league title victory in 2007.
Two years later he moved to Gunners, the eventual winners of the 2009 premier soccer league championship.
His career was cut short with the troublesome injury.
Maroto recalled how the injury haunted him for the better part of his career.
In a Twitter post, Maroto, 35, said the injury forced him to hang his boots.
“(I) played about 14 years of my career with a badly operated knee (cruciate damage).
” I was a machine operating at half or less my potential. I thrived for just half chances and converting,” Maroto posted.
Maroto’s injury revelation came after one of his followers asked him why he did not make it into the ABSA Premier league with his scoring record.
“I’m a bosso fan but lumumba ndaimubigger…. But iwewe norman unoda 80 magate w that scoring record wakatadza sei kuenda kana kumvela league,” the fan asked.
Another was marvelled by the long time injury revelation, “Wow, I didn’t know about your knee, it even makes your achievements on the field of play incredible.”
Norman Maroto aka Lumumba has since retired from playing football as he now heads the Football Union of Zimbabwe communications department.
