GOVERNMENT through the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services has withdrawn an earlier statement in which it advised Vumba residents near Manyera dam to evacuate amidst fears the dam wall was about to burst.

Some families had already evacuated or moved to higher ground following the cautionary warning.

In its latest statement, government says tests done by its engineers have confirmed there is no danger of any burst.

“We have been informed that checks by engineers have confirmed that both Witchood and Manyera Dam are structurally safe. The earlier cautionary announcement is withdrawn. We thank the agencies for acting on this in a timely manner and avoided unnecessary disruption,” the statement says.
