Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has arrived at the Harare Magistrates’ Court, Rotten Row for his initial remand.

Mafume is being charged with violating his bail conditions for allegedly caught talking to one of the key witnesses in his case where he is charged with criminal abuse of office for allegedly issuing a residential stand to a relative.

The opposition MDC Alliance however claims that its capital city Mayor is being persecuted for opposing the inhuman implementation of demolitions in Budiriro.

“There’s no substance to the new charges he faces. We demand his immediate release,” said the party in a statement.
