ZUPCO Now Charging Fares In Forex
4 February 2021
By A Correspondent- ZUPCO has reportedly started charging fares in foreign currency alongside RTGS Dollar for its urban routes..
According to the state media, the parastatal was reportedly charging R5 or Dollar for 2 on the ZUPCO buses and $1 or R10 for the omnibuses yesterday.
ZUPCO hiked their fares last month and commuters are now paying between ZWL $30 and $60 on urban routes.
This means the bus company is effectively charging commuters who use the omnibuses $22 more than the stipulated fare if they use the RBZ exchange rate of $1 being equal to $82.
The government is yet to comment on the development.-statemedia
