By A Correspondent| Zvaiiteyi Kambarami (42), Shepherd Kambarami (27), Willing Kambarami (32), Takudzwa Kambarami (22), and Kenneth Kambarami (35), all from Kambarami village, Nyanga, appeared before the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court facing assault charges.

On the 9th of August 2024 at around 1600 hours and at Kambarami village, the complainant attended a family meeting where the first accused person, accused the complainant of witchcraft.

The complainant denied the allegations leading to a misunderstanding. The first accused person picked a wooden log and hit the complainant on her back and arms. The other four accused persons joined in, kicking, slapping, and assaulting the complainant. The accused persons were restrained from further assaulting the complainant. The complainant sustained visible injuries.

The first accused person was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to the charge. 2 months was suspended for 5 years and he will serve 4 months effective. The other four accused persons were sentenced to 9 months imprisonment of which 3 months was suspended for 5 years. They will serve 6 months effectively.
