African Union chairperson Robert Mugabe said on Monday that President Jacob Zuma had guaranteed the AU Summit that his Sudanese counterpart Omar Al-Bashir will not be arrested by police once he set foot on South African soil.
“Zuma was telling me that one of the NGOs went to court, and I am quite sure they were used by outsiders,” the Zimbabwean president said, according to a Mail & Guardain report.
“He [Zuma] said President Bashir would not be arrested, as he would not allow police here to arrest him.”
The summit, which was held from June 7 in Sandton north of Johannesburg, was officially closed by Mugabe some time after midnight.
Mugabe said the ICC was not wanted in the continent.
“This is not the headquarters of the ICC, we don’t want it in this region at all.
Bashir departed for Sudan on Monday, despite a high court order preventing him from leaving South Africa. His departure sent mixed reactions across the country, with opposition parties accusing the government of violating a court order.-TimesLive/Mail&Guardian

  1. If you were one of the millions of people in Sudan or Zimbabwe who have had their loved one murdered by the state, your own government, and know you will never see justice done would you still ask these stupid questions?

  2. The Iraq/Bush/Blair atrocities are a problem, but we as black Africans who have been enslaved by Arabs and the white man have a duty at the present moment to protect our own people. Even if ICC is a devil, we should hand Bashir over to them for his treatment and enslavement of our people. Even if we don’t like ICC, we cannot defend and protect Bashir. When are black people going to stand up and protect other black nations against the likes of Bashir who chose to to align himself more with Arabs than blacks?

  3. The simple question YOU must answer is: why are the atrocities allegedly committed by Bashir worse than those done by Bush and Blair on Iraqi citizens??!! Is there anything called “better death”??!!

  4. If you were intelligent you would ask yourself these questions:
    1. If the ICC was really all about global justice, how come the USA, among other powerful nations, is NOT a signatory to the Rome Statute??!! In fact, the Americans enacted the Patriot Act which actually enables them to intervene, even if it means military invasion, to free any American citizen being held by the ICC!!
    2. Africans like Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto, Charles Taylor, have been on the ICC’s agenda but what about WHITE war-mongers like George Bush and Tony Blair who devastated Iraq on the blatant lie that Saddam Hussein had WMD??!! Is it that the many INNOCENT Iraqi lives lost don’t matter at all??!! How about Netanyahu butchering Palestinians at the slightest provocation??!!

  5. Most Africans don’t accept Al-Bashir and Mugabe are involved in politics.
They believe these tyrants are the heads of international money laundering operations masquerading as ‘elected’ officials !
They are the archetypal African Dictator – corrupt, violent, incompetent, greedy, lying, tyrannical sociopaths, with the wit and social-graces of street thugs. Their extremely shady business deals, assassinated rivals, gagged media, and Governments stacked with cronies, has proved beyond all doubt they are not the progressive leaders their Nations and Africa hoped for and need.

  6. We all know why President Mugabe does not want the ICC in the region, he has murdered over 30 000 Zimbabweans during his 35 years in office, the dead’s dry bones will tell tales!

  7. For ordinary people, the arrest of Bashir is a West agenda against African presidents. Many would argue that why not target the Western leaders as well.To those who know the issues, the man Bashir deserves arrest. If you go to South Sudan right now, the people were subjected to inhuman treatment that they lost self esteem, they became slaves in their mentality, millions died of starvation and diseases. It is difficult today for a 7 year old child to start grade 1 in Sudan. The grade 1 staff is beyond the scope of the children there, as a result of trauma and inhuman treatment. All efforts to convince Bashir to treat Darfur as humans fell on deaf ears.UN had to force the creation of South Sudan to relieve the poor people of Darfur.Three months after birth , South Sudan is in civil war.South Sudan has rich oil reserves, which are not found in Sudan, then Bashir starts the confusion again , sponsoring terror groups.
Today any encounter with a person from South Sudan tells you there is something lacking in their personality.War is something they see as a part of life.If Bashir was to redeem himself,he could have allowed the development of South Sudan, helping with technical skills in education, health , agriculture and civil construction.Thats the African ideology of Ubuntu:i am because we are.Bashir must not fear the ICC. Uhuru Kenyatta was summoned to the ICC and he was cleared. You can only be arrested by the ICC if they summon you to come and give your side of the allegations and you refuse to go , and continue with the atrocities. There is nothing wrong with answering and clearing allegations if it is for the greater good.
