British Lord Meets Mnangagwa

British Labour Party politician and former Cabinet member Lord Peter Hain has hailed President Mnangagwa’s re-engagement with the international community, commitment to good governance and credible elections under the new political dispensation.

The re-engagement effort, says Lord Hain, brings the country back on the global map and will open foreign capital streams.

Lord Hain, who served under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown was recently appointed advisor and ex-officio board member to one of the largest foreign investors in Zimbabwe — Moti Group — on Tuesday met President Mnangagwa, Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga, Kembo Mohadi and Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Sibusiso Moyo at a State House dinner on Tuesday.

Lord Hain said President Mnangagwa discussed his agenda for the country including how he intends to rejoin the Commonwealth, open up to the world, attract foreign investment and ensure there is good governance.

“As he says, he wants to make sure the elections are free and fair. He assured me that they would be free and fair. He told me that he would be inviting international observers not just from the SADC area, but from Europe and elsewhere to observe the elections and I think all that is very encouraging,” said Lord Hain in an interview with The Herald, adding 20 years of isolation had damaged Zimbabwe.

“Obviously there is a long way to go and Zimbabwe has been in a very bad place for the past 20 years with the people suffering economically and the reputation of the country being badly damaged abroad.

“For example, the President would like to re-apply to join the Commonwealth which will be good for Zimbabwe to be standing tall again instead of being an isolated nation as it was under President Mugabe. I was very encouraged,” he added.

He said progress on governance, election credibility and fighting corruption is the first step towards re-branding Zimbabwe positively and attracting international capital.

“The key thing is good governance so we are starting with the elections which the world is watching with interest because the world wants to support Zimbabwe. There are businesses which want to invest in Zimbabwe, but it starts with good governance and they are watching,” he said.

Lord Hain also discussed the potential for debt relief and agricultural support from International Financial Institutions, in particular Britain, after credible elections.

He proposed that Zimbabwe takes advantage of its climatic conditions to establish solar power projects and provide electricity in remote areas with a view to improve communication, education and health services.

He also noted the potential for massive water purification and conservation projects to maximise value on the country’s resources.

He also hailed President Mnangagwa for opening his door to the world and taking ideas and constructive criticism from everyone with a view to improve the livelihoods of his people.

“This is my first visit to Zimbabwe. I was not made welcome here by former president Robert Mugabe who attacked me and criticised me and I am very pleased to be here in what I think is a new dawn for Zimbabwe to try and encourage that, support it.

“As an advisor of the Moti Group, which is the biggest foreign investor in Zimbabwe at the moment, I want to help build good relations with the people of Zimbabwe so that’s why I am here,” he said.

Lord Hain is expected to meet Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando to discuss Moti Group’s further investment plans in Zimbabwe..

“The Moti Group is, through ACF, is expanding its investment and therefore, creating more jobs. We are around 1 500 and we are going up to 2 000 very soon and there will be more jobs created after that. This is all being done absolutely transparently, Moti Group pays taxes, there is full accountability and obviously that’s important to me so we will be discussing other areas where Moti Group might consider moving into investing in Zimbabwe as well,” Lord Hain he said.

His strategy for the Moti Group is premised on ensuring the company creates more jobs in Zimbabwe, bringing prosperity to shareholders and the community. – state media

Kagame Proved A Blue Liar On Chamisa Meeting

As it is customary with most politicians, the game of claiming to be an originator of innovations continues. President Paul Kagame who yesterday claimed he has never met Nelson Chamisa and never engaged in a discussion on ICT with him, met his match when he Chamisa fought back with evidence.

Several pictures were pulled out revealing a well known forum meeting in Switzerland. President Kagama’s speech at the function was also retrieved.

Adding to this Chamisa wrote on his twitter handle; “Your Excellency, you’re not expected to remember everything. We met at a conference a few years back & you requested your ICT DG to get a copy of a presentation I had given. There’s a generational consensus across Africa that your leadership of Rwanda is progressive & inspiring”

Another supporter, Arnold Musana, @ArnoldMusana1 wrote ; “I thought Kagame tweeted also? So Chamisa was supposed to do what? Go to zbc? Kagame made the first mistake of taking the issue to twitter. If Chamisa lied, Kagame should have just ignored because its not necessary.”

Added Phillip Kucherera writing under @phillipkuch; “thank you Mr. President for wishing us well. May your voice rise in calling for democracy in Africa and beyond. By making such a call, your energy could have been more useful.”

Kasukuwere’s Brother Jailed For Border Jumping

Former ZANU PF National Commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere’s brother Dickson Mafios has been sentenced to 11 months in prison.

Mafios’s sentencing has an option of a $300 fine for border “jumping” in contravention of the Immigration Act.

The other five months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.

Mafios is former Zanu-PF Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson and was a key member of the G40 faction.

He pleaded guilty when he appeared before Bindura magistrate, Mrs Vongai Guwuriro.

The court heard that in November 2017, Mafios exited Zimbabwe through Nyamapanda Border Post into Mozambique following Operation Restore Legacy. On November 25, 2017 Mafios flew from Mozambique to South Africa where he was supposed to stay for three months.

He returned to Zimbabwe after three months through Beitbridge Border Post before returning to South Africa through a place and date unknown to the State between February 20 and April 7, 2018. On April 8, Mafios left South Africa and entered Zimbabwe through Beitbridge Border Post, where his passport was stamped by the country’s Immigration Department. On May 10, 2018, police detectives received a tip-off that Mafios had left Zimbabwe through an illegal point. He was questioned and failed to give satisfactory answers leading to his arrest. – state media

Mysterious Month Mnangagwa Is Holdings 2018 Elections | WHAT WILL HAPPEN NOW?

By Farai D Hove| The month of July President Emmerson Mnangagwa has chosen to hold elections, has a curious history. This is the same month when the man’s predecessor, Robert Mugabe was for the first time in history suddenly told he must hand over power to Mnangagwa: this was July 2016.

A year later, it was the same month when Mugabe’s wife, Grace, began her downward fall in the events that saw her husband being removed in November.

Yesterday Mnangagwa gazetted a proclamation setting the dates for the forthcoming general election.

Writes Veritas: In Proclamation 2 of 2018 (SI 83 of 2018), the President fixed the following dates:

Nomination day:

Thursday 14th June, 2018, for all elections (presidential, parliamentary and local authority elections)

This is the day on which nominations of candidates for election are processed by nomination courts presided over by nominations officers appointed by ZEC.

The places where the nomination courts will sit are listed in the proclamation.

Polling day:

Monday 30th July, 2018, for all elections (presidential, parliamentary and local authority elections)

Polling day will be a public holiday by virtue of section 38(2) of the Electoral Act.

Run-off presidential election

Saturday 8th September, 2018, when a run-off presidential election will be held in the event that none of the candidates for the office gets 50 per cent or more of the votes in the election held on 30th July.

Election of Senator Chiefs

Wednesday 11th July, 2018, when the provincial assemblies of chiefs will meet to elect representatives to the Council of Chiefs, which is the national body representing all chiefs in Zimbabwe.  The places where the provincial assemblies will meet are listed in the proclamation.

Wednesday 18th July, 2018, when the Council of Chiefs will meet in Harare to elect a President and Deputy President of the Council.  The two persons elected will become Senator Chiefs by virtue of their office.

Wednesday 1st August, 2018, when the eight provincial assemblies of chiefs will meet as electoral colleges to elect Senator Chiefs to represent them.  Each provincial assembly will elect two chiefs.  Again, the places where the electoral colleges will meet are listed in the proclamation.

Why Is Penny Penny Fighting Bank?

Penny Penny
Tsonga disco king Penny Penny is embroiled in a nasty fight for money with one of the big four banks.

The legendary musician, whose real name is Eric Nkovane, is angry with Standard Bank, which owes him money after he signed a contract worth R1-million to act as an ambassador for its Gold Master Card competition.

Penny Penny accepted a R100000 payment made to him yesterday but said he will still pursue a R200000 fee for cancellation of the contract.

According to the contract, which Sowetan has seen, Penny Penny was supposed to be paid 50% of the R1-million before starting work in February.

“They wanted to promote their gold card and then I signed an agreement with their agency,” he said.

“They invited me to their launch and never paid me for accommodation and travel costs for that.

“They also said that when I sign the contract they will give me 50% of the money on the contract and they never did.

“They had to pay me for the work that I already did and for the costs I paid during travelling to promote their work. According to the contract they are supposed to give me R500000 for signing. I have missed out on other gigs of a similar nature because of them,” he said.

The Papa Penny Ahee reality show star’s deal with Standard Bank was mediated by a Johanneburg-based agency called Collective ID, which was communicating with the star through his PR manager Thabang Mnisi.

Mnisi said they were approached by the agency to have the star feature in the campaign, which was presented by television star Thembisa Mdoda and comedian Mashabela Galane.

Mnisi said: “They were interested in Penny Penny because of his song Goldie Bone, which was in line with their gold card. Even though his roles were not properly defined at the time, they said he will be part of their social media advert using his Goldie Bone song.”

Mnisi added that Penny Penny attended a staff meet-and-greet event at Urban Brew studios earlier in the year where he familiarised himself with the bank before shooting the advert.

“What is frustrating is that they [Collective ID] kept pushing us to complete the paperwork and when it was done, they started running around telling us they were waiting for the client to come back to them. I think the client then changed their mind,” he said.

Mnisi said the two parties agreed to pay Penny Penny R100000 for the work he did for them in February, accommodation and travel costs.

Collective ID’s Sue Tyler said Standard Bank had cancelled the contract with the star and blamed Mnisi for not relaying the news to his client.

After Sowetan made an enquiry to the bank, a quick payment was made to the star yesterday.

Magna Carta, a PR agency representing the bank, confirmed that Penny Penny was paid during the day.

“We got Papa Penny’s invoice today and the full amount of the invoice was paid today,” Inga Sebata said.

Penny Penny also confirmed that R100000 was paid to him.

“They have just paid me R100000. They are not saying anything about a cancellation fee, if indeed the contract was cancelled. They have not sent me a cancellation letter and they are not saying anything about the 50% I was supposed to receive after signing the contract,” he said.

“I did not want to do things through the courts at the moment because I have other deals with another bank in the pipeline and I will be coming to Joburg on Monday for a meeting on that,” he said. – Agencies

ZEC Says We’re Fully Prepared For Elections

Mnangagwa Flies Back Smith Files From South Africa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday officially received records mainly Cabinet minutes and security reports that were unlawfully removed from public offices and exported to South Africa by former Rhodesian Prime Minister Mr Ian Douglas Smith towards independence in 1980.

The documents were kept at the Rhodes University in South Africa as part of the Smith family documents.

Receiving the documents comprising of 73 boxes at State House Wednesday afternoon, President Mnangagwa said the event marked a major victory in reclaiming the country’s history.

“This event therefore, is a historic occasion in the reclamation of our history and culture,” he said.
“History and culture in their broadest sense are fundamental pillars for national pride and identity as well an important ingredient to the vitality of all communities as it involves the tangible and intangible attributes from past societies that are maintained and valorised in the present and handed over to future generations.

“Properly leveraged on a people’s history and cultural heritage thus provides the most reliable and sustainable building blocks for social and economic development through creation of vibrant communities.”

President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe’s story and the struggle for independence would be incomplete without a comprehensive narrative of the colonial history.

As such, President Mnangagwa said, under the new dispensation Government had reconfigured the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage which was mandated to leverage on Zimbabwe’s past.

“These archival material we gather here to receive this constitute integral and crucial evidence of our history,” he said.

“I am therefore privileged to receive these records on behalf of the people of Zimbabwe, those departed, still with us and indeed for future generations. Our diverse cultural heritage resources tell the story of our shared past and fostering social cohesion.”

Said President Mnangagwa: “During the transition to independence, particularly between 1978 and 1979, substantial amounts of public records, mainly from Cabinet Office and the security services, were unlawfully removed from public offices and illicitly exported to South Africa.

“These were discovered in 1980, dispelling fears that most of the records had been burnt by Rhodesian security elements. Some of the records were subsequently returned from South African institutions following Government to Government negotiations during the post-apartheid era. Further negotiations have culminated in this return of the “Ian Smith Papers” from Rhodes University which we are gathered to receive today.”

The President said there were some collections from the independence transition period still privately kept in South Africa and Australia.

He said another considerable collection of military and intelligence records were also in private hands in the United Kingdom.

“In addition, there are missing philatelic treasures from its (UK) special deposit collection which consist of 30 rare Southern Rhodesian stamps that went missing during the 1979-1981 periods,” said President Mnangagwa.

“Furthermore, there are remains of the heroes of the First Chimurenga, waged in 1896-97, which ended up in foreign capitals as war trophies. My Government will continue to pursue the return of such important records and remains through diplomatic channels.”

President Mnangagwa said Government was also seized with the identification and promotion of liberation sites in foreign lands that hosted the country’s liberation movements.

“My Government through the Ministry of Homes Affairs and Cultural Heritage, will indeed safeguard this important part of our heritage and further ensure the completion of the necessary administrative procedures in line with standing instructions for the retention and disposal of such records,” said President Mnangagwa.

The two Vice Presidents Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Cde Kembo Mohadi, Cabinet Ministers and several Government officials witnessed the official receiving of the records. – state media

EXPOSED: ZANU PF MPs Plotting To Impeach President Mnangagwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa says that there is a plot currently underway to impeach him in the next few weeks.

Mnangagwa made the revelations Wednesday afternoon during a session at the party’s headquarters.

He said he has received clear intelligence of this underhand strategy to depose him.

For a while there has been a large floating media report that many who belong to the so called military faction do not want him to proceed beyond August. It was not clear at the time of writing if the head of state was referring to mere media news articles or real and hard intelligence data.

Mnangagwa said, “I got intelligence that some of those who have won this primary election have two minds, they have gone to join the Zanu-PF wagon using various means, money included, to be elected with a possible view once in parliament they will band together and move a motion of impeachment.

“There are two things that those among you here need to know what happens. First, you must realize that the constitution provides the basis of impeachment and such basis must be fulfilled before impeachment proceedings begin.

“Secondly, our constitution (Zanu-PF’s) provides an instrument to chuck out from parliament any member whom we think is not Zanu-PF anymore. So you and your angel, as well as your spirit medium, should know where you stand before bad things happen.”

“You Wont Remember Everything,” Chamisa Tells Kagame

Nelson Chamisa and Paul Kagame

By Paul Nyathi|Movement for Democratic Change leader Nelson Chamisa has hit back at Rwanda President Paul Kagame telling him that he will never remember meeting him and asking for his ICT policy.

Kagame made a sensational Twitter outburst on Chamisa’s claims that he had assisted the Rwandan government develop its country’s ICT policy.

Chamisa made the claims while addressing a rally in Beitbridge on Saturday. The youthful leader who was Zimbabwe’s Minister of ICT during the 2008 to 2013 Unity Government claimed that he had met with Kagame in Geneva where the Rwandan President fell in love with his well articulated ICT policy which he asked for.

“Your Excellency, you are not expected to remember everything. We met at a conference a few years back and you requested your ICT Director General to get a copy of a presentation I had given,” said Chamisa on the Twitter thread.

“There’s a generational consensus across Africa that your leadership of Rwanda is progressive & inspiring,” he added.

Why Mnangagwa Will Not Persecute Kasukuwere

Saviour Kasukuwere

Terrence Mawawa

Prominent social media analyst Antony Taruvinga believes President Emmerson Mnangagwa will never persecute Saviour Kasukuwere because of his involvement in unorthodox deals.

In his hard-hitting Facebook message yesterday, Taruvinga accused Mnangagwa of plundering state resources.

“Well, we are very aware that a thief cannot arrest
another thief. Which crime did Kasukuwere commit that Mnangagwa did not commit?

Actually,
Mnangagwa is the worst of them, he stole the Chiadzwa
diamonds, sold them, got 15 billion proceeds, shared
with Chiwenga and deposited his share in foreign
accounts.

Ndomari irikutenga campaign cars,
regalia as well as financing rigging,” claimed Taruvinga.

BREAKING – Chamisa Proves President Kagame Wrong #ChamisaChallenge

By Own Correspondent| MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has risen up to disprove Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame’s claim that he has never met him (Chamisa).

Kagame had said this in response to the MDC leader’s reference at his Saturday Beitbridge rally where he said Kagame was assisted with his (Chamisa’s) ICT.

Kagame denied ever meeting Chamisa.

But pictures and videos in Switzerland in 2009 show Kagame clearly engaged in a discussion forum with Chamisa inside. Others show the two shaking hands.

“There’s a generational consensus across Africa that your leadership of Rwanda is progressive & inspiring. https://t.co/AamOUAX2Ju ”

Shakespear Mukoyi Snubs ZiFm Interview

Shakespeare Mukoyi

By Own Correspondent| Following indications that he would “spill the beans” publicly,  commander of the MDC T’s Vanguard militia, Shakespear Mukoyi last night did not show up at ZiFMStereo where he was set to be interviewed by Larry Kwirirayi.

Mukoyi’s mobile phone was however not available to say why he failed to present himself for the interview which he had earlier on confirmed.

Citizens took to the social media to express their sentiments with others likening the development to former President Robert Mugabe’s actions where he leaves people guessing and speculating.

“Mukoma Mukoyi vatirova Asante Sana yekwaMugabe chaiyo.Takamirira nzeve takarodza meaning brother Mukoyi has behaved like former president Mugabe where he appeared on national televiaion during the military takeover and said Asante Sana while we were hoping for him to announce his resignation,” said Percival Takundwa.

ZEC Prints Sample Ballot Paper With 129 Political Parties

ZEC Chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba

By Own Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has printed its sample ballot papers which has 129 political parties, ZEC Chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba has said.

Justice Chigumba said her organisation printed the sample ballot paper with 129 political parties to access the feasibility of including all the contesting parties on the ballot paper

She revealed that the printing of the sample ballot paper was in response to indications by more than 129 parties of their intention to contest the forthcoming polls.

“There has been concern from the public on how we’ll handle the high number of political parties and prospective candidates for the forthcoming elections.

We’ve printed a sample of the ballot paper with all the 129 parties that have so far indicated their intention to participate in the elections. It’s therefore possible to have all the parties appearing on the ballot paper although it’s going to be in form of a booklet.

Justice Chigumba however indicated that the eligibility of some of these political parties to contest the forthcoming elections would be determined by how many of them meet the requirements at the nomination court.

“The number that we have now, which is likely to increase is not the measure of those going to participate given the rigorous vetting process done by the nomination court.

We, however, printed a sample of the ballot paper with the current number so that we’re prepared,” said Justice Chigumba.

Rwanda’s Foreign Minister Scoffs At Chamisa

Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo

By Own Correspondent| Despite clear evidence of an open discussion in 2009 with Nelson Chamisa among others, Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Louise Mushikiwabo has reacted attacking the MDC Alliance president on his sentiments in Beitbridge at the weekend.

However, the tweet by Mushikiwabo drew mixed reactions. Below are some of the sentiments from Zimbabweans on Twitter.

Mnangagwa Speaks On Elections Date

President Emmerson Mnangagwa

I am delighted to proclaim July 30 as the date for the 2018 harmonised elections.

These elections will be free, fair and transparent, and the voice of the people will be heard.

I call on all candidates to conduct their campaigns peacefully and to focus on the issues that really matter. Above all, let us remember that what unites us as Zimbabweans is far greater than anything that could ever divide us.

I look forward to going out and engaging with my fellow Zimbabweans on the campaign trail.

Simudzai Mureza wedu WeZimbabwe!

Kalibusiswe Ilizwe leZimbabwe!

Blessed be the Land of Zimbabwe!

The Kasukuwere Fiasco

By Charles Chidavaenzi | Again, Zimbabweans have been taken for a ride by the new dispensation over the Kasukuwere fiasco. In true ZANU PF fashion, the much publicized criminality of the G40 cabal around the former ZANU PF President, Mugabe, has suddenly lost the momentum it once had at the old man’s ouster. Moyo, Kasukuwere and Zhuwao were said to be pivotal in the criminality pervading the cabal during those critical times.

Yet, now the Junta is in no hurry to bring the  so called ‘criminal’ to answer for his misdemeanors.

What has changed? Is it possible Kasukuwere has clandestinely apologized to the Junta for his sins and bought a safe passage for his return as propagated by his hapless erstwhile comrades? Or could it be possible that the guy is as ‘innocent’ as his accusers of any criminality against the Zimbabwean people despite the sorry state of our public utilities and the pervasive corruption in local authorities in Zimbabwe?

I have no answers to ED’s covert and underhanded dealings and corruptive tendencies, but I am pretty sure the smokescreen around the Kasukuwere entrance back into Zimbabwe has everything to do with the murky and evil operations of this monstrosity called ZANU PF in whose vocabulary and DNA ethics, truth, transparency and honesty are traits long since laid into their graves.

Zimbabweans are best warned to get rid of this vicious, plotting and uncouth organization if it really desires to secure a meaningful future for its children. Voting for Mnangagwa and his ilk is just the same as condemning our posterity to a walk in endless hell and poverty.

No one needs another repeat of the challenges that confronted our poor people during the Mugabe era with the notorious assistance of Mnangagwa and Chiwenga .

Constitutional Court Throws Out Diaspora Vote

Justice Chinembiri Bhunu

By Paul Nyathi|The Constitutional court has thrown out an application to have Zimbabweans living in the diaspora voting from their foreign lands.

The ruling was made by Justice Chinembiri Bhunu in a landmark case heard in Harare on Wednesday.

Details on the court ruling are still coming through and ZimEye.com is following up the matter.

Chamisa Never Lied About Kagame Discussion – Kademaunga

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa did not lie about his meeting with Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, activist Maureen Kademaunga says.

FULL TEXT: “Advocate Nelson Chamisa says Kagame was impressed by his ICT presentation at a conference and Kagame responds on twitter saying I do not know this man.

“As N.C puts it, it was an informal encounter and maybe President Kagame has forgotten about it. Never the less, that is the beauty of photography!

“I think that we have allowed ourselves to focus on small matters while slurring over the bigger issues as not worthy of attention.

“Just imagine what would have happened to us had our forefathers spent time debating the merits of Mbuya Nehanda’s words “mapfupa angu achamuka” rather than drawing inspiration from her act of courage, just imagine! Bigger picture is important, let’s rise above trivia and help shape the future that we want.”

MDC-T Aspiring Candidate Sues Party Over Primary Elections

By Paul Nyathi
|Blessing Nhende, the aspiring Councillor for Ward 21 in Harare, has filed an urgent chamber application seeking the High Court to help redress the manner the party carried out its primary elections.

Nhende cited the MDC-T as the first respondent, one Barnabas Ndira as the second respondent, and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) as the third respondent.

Mr. Nhende accused the MDC-T of allowing Ndira to stand as Ward 21 councillor candidate despite the fact that the ward was reserved for the youth quota and that Ndira is an adult.

Nhende further accuses the MDC-T of accepting his own candidature for Ward 19 despite the fact the he actually never applied for that Ward.

Further, Blessing Nhende avers that the party failed to conduct primary elections in Ward 21. This saw Barnabas Ndira being handpicked without going through the primary vote.

Lastly, Nhende states that the MDC-T violated its own constitution by endorsing the candidature of Ndira for Ward 21, when Ndira is not a youth member of the party but the ward is reserved for the youth quota.

How Mugabe’s ZANU-PF and Chihuri’s Police Created The MDC-T Vanguard

In December 2010, Augustine Mahute (26), an MDC-T activist from Matapi Flats in Mbare, was brutally attacked by ZANU-PF youths before they handed him to Matapi Police station.
Mahute subsequently died from injuries he suffered while in police custody. His crime: he stood accused of stealing a ZANU-PF supporter’s pair of shoes, a blanket and a pair of jeans.

Because Mahute was a known MDC –T activist, the ZANU-PF youths accused everyone who went to the burial of being an MDC-T sympathizer. They ran amok and invaded the market stalls of all mourners who attended Mahute’s burial, saying they were ‘taking back what belongs to us.’

Those evicted later on held a meeting at which they decided to ‘fight tooth and nail’ to reclaim their stalls and wares. But as this group went to first inform police in Mbare of its intentions, they were arrested. Whilst in police detention, the ZANU-PF group came into the police camp and attacked them – and police did nothing about it.

In the following months, Mbare became a volatile political hotbed, with clashes between MDC-T and ZANU PF supporters becoming an everyday occurrence. Even several Constitution –making gatherings organized by COPAC were disrupted by ZANU-PF youths and the police did nothing about it, only to act heavy-handedly when MDC-T youths went wayward.

The ZANU-PF youths even went as far as terrorizing commuter omnibus drivers and collected a forced levy per vehicle. No political will was shown to control the ZANU-PF youths, not even by the then President, Robert Mugabe.

Hence, with the blessing of ZANU-PF, ‘Chipangano’ was born. They unleashed violence on suspected MDC-T supporters will. Police would systematically arrest the MDC-T youths whenever they went to file reports of being attacked. Harare City Council security was also overpowered as Jim Kunaka’s Chipangano took control of Mbare Bus Terminus and all the taxes that come with it. The storm troopers also took control of Carter House, a boarding house owned by the Harare City Council in Mbare.

The law was clearly being applied selectively and no-one was going to come to the rescue of the MDC-T supporters. They had to defend themselves, their market stalls, and they officials. The idea of forming a vigilante, paramilitary outfit became necessary out of circumstances.

The MDC-T issued a statement: “The party (MDC-T) wishes to caution the perpetrators that they are spoiling for conflagration and unnecessary mayhem from which ZANU PF would certainly emerge as a crying loser. The party is totally opposed to the abuse of youths for selfish political gains. It is common cause that ZANU-PF is financing youths in Mbare and other areas to attack the people,” the MDC-T said.

The then MP for Mbare, MDC-T’s Piniel Denga, said at the time: ‘That ZANU PF youth leaders can dislodge and harass innocent, peace-loving and law abiding citizens with impunity and in front of the police is totally unacceptable.”

In February 2011, the Chipangano leader Jim Kunaka was paraded on ZBC TV showing wounds he had sustained from an attack by alleged MDC-T youths. It was clear the MDC-T youths were now prepared to fight back and defend themselves. The previous day, prominent MDC-T activists in Mbare went into hiding fearing attacks from Jim Kunaka’s Chipangano. Some who sought refuge at the Harvest House, the MDC-T Headquarters now known as Morgan Tsvangirai House, were savagely beaten with sticks and pick-axe handles by daring Chipangano youths. Again, this happened in full view of the police who said the violence was being provoked by the MDC-T. Home Affairs co-minister at the time Theresa Makone of the MDC-T said police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri was refusing to take orders from her and to support the rule of law.

In October 2011, a group of MDC-T were riding on a Mazda T-35 truck on their way to Glen View from Rotten Row Magistrates Courts when about 50 Chipangano youths waylaid them at Simon Mazorodze and attacked them. The MDC-T youths were coming from demonstrating at the courts for the arrest of then MDC-T youth assembly leaders Solomon Madzore who stood accused of murdering a police officer in Glen View. The attack occurred at a roundabout near Houghton Park when Chipangano youths in a commuter omnibus and a white Isuzu truck blocked the T35 and attacked the MDC-T supporters.

During the attack, many MDC-T youths lost their valuables, mobile phones, money and other personal belongings. Ten were treated and discharged, while three stayed longer in hospital after suffering broken ribs, broken limbs, fractured skulls and other deep injuries. The attacks were carried out using screw drivers, iron bars, sticks and stones.

ZANU-PF denied their youths were involved, with then secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa saying their youths were too disciplined to carry out such a heartless attack.

By the end of 2011, the tide of political violence in Harare’s ghettos such as Mbare, Budiriro and Glen View began to rise amidst reports that the MDC-T was also launching revenge attacks. MDC-T Youth Assembly chair Thamsanqa Mahangu said the youths will defend the party, and these became the early indicators that the MDC-T youths were prepared to take matters into their own hands own hands if police continued looking the other side.

In a rare joint statement inked by ZANU-PF, MDC-T and the MDC-N, the three parties in the government of national unity (GNU) called for an end to political violence, and for the police to act.

“We agreed that what is happening in Harare is not good for our country and is completely against the spirit of the global political agreement signed by our leaders,” they said in reference to a pact on Zimbabwe’s power-sharing government. “We believe it is within our power to stop the violence, which poses a threat to the lives of our people. We further acknowledge that it only requires political will and police help to end the violence.

Nothing happened and violence and revenge fights continued happening, principally because of no political will from ZANU-PF.

In April 2013 as political temperatures heated up ahead of elections, the then MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora was reported by NewsDay Zimbabwe as having told party supporters not to take the violence lying down. Mwonzora made the statements at a campaign rally organised by Harare West MP Jessie Majome at Mabelreign shopping centre.

Mwonzora was quoted saying: “If you see someone wearing a Zanu PF T-shirt going about their business, leave them alone. But if you are beaten by ZANU-PF supporters, fight back. It is allowed because you will be doing it in self-defence. Read the report here.

Key ZANU-PF politicians suspected of being the ‘godfathers’ of Chipangano include former Mbare MP Tendai Savanhu, Jim Kunaka, the late Amos Midzi who died in 2015, and the late Edward Chataika who died in 2016. None of them ever acknowledged the existence of Chipangano in ZANU-PF’s Mbare structures, with Tendai Savanhu at one time saying the militia group was a creation of the MDC-T to tarnish the image of ZANU-PF and its leadership ahead of the 2013 elections.

Chipangano did not collapse due to political leadership stamping authority; it died due to factionalism in ZANU-PF. As the 2014 ZANU-PF Congress approached, the factional fights pitting the Gamatox and the Weevils. Kunaka, the vigilante group leader, was found in the ‘wrong basket’ of Joyce Mujuru’s Gamatox. In November 2014, one month before the ZANU-PF Congress, Kunaka was waylaid by unknown men from Carter House in Mbare, bunched into a car and assaulted at an unknown location.

Said Kunaka: “They approached me as people who wanted to talk to me but later assaulted me to force me to comply with their orders. The other one produced a pistol and as I resisted for a while a crowd gathered.

“When they saw the crowd, the other guy produced an AK 47 rifle which he fired in the air and the people scampered for dear life. That is when they put me in the car and assaulted me.”

The next month, Joyce Mujuru was fired by Mugabe from ZANU-PF for, among other reasons, “plotting to unconstitutionally remove the President and First Secretary of the party from office.”

In January 2015, Harare City Council sacked Jim Kunaka following allegations he swindled the municipality of about $4 000 daily at Mbare Musika where he illegally collected money from buses using the terminus.

The then Deputy Mayor of Harare, Councillor Thomas Muzuva told councillors that at least 400 buses which used Mbare Musika paid $10 each, but the city was not getting anything as Mr Kunaka took the money.

“Kunaka is collecting $4 000 from council coffers every day. He is a grade 16 employee in council who is a worker in the housing department. We do not know why you (council directors) are afraid to stop him. We had allowed the devil to run away with the Bible from the pulpit for a long time,” he said at the time.

It is not a coincidence that Chipangano fizzled out at just about the time Kunaka left ZANU-PF. It shows he was running the paramilitary group under the cover of and with the blessings of ZANU-PF. Another school of thought suggests that after 2013, the MDC-T was at its weakest with splits and infighting between Tendai Biti, Elton Mangoma, the late Roy Bennett and the late Morgan Tsvangirai. A weakened MDC-T probably meant ZANU-PF did not need to use enforcers like Chipangano.

It is not too clear exactly at which point the MDC-T formed the Vanguard, but what is obvious is that the Vanguard was formed as a reply to Chipangano. MDC-T supporters and structures wanted to protect themselves against violence from ZANU-PF youths, harassment and arbitrary arrests by the police, and lack of political will by Mugabe’s administration to unite the nation and end violence in their camps.

What caught the nation unawares was that when Chipangano disbanded, the Vanguard did not. They became a pliant tool within the party ready to be deployed at will by the leaders. With no Chipangano to fight, the Vanguard got entangled in internal MDC-T policy struggles between Tsvangirai and Khupe.

The Vanguard was to later fight Khupe on behalf of new party leader Nelson Chamisa. As revealed by Vanguard leader Shakespear Mukoyi, they fought political opponents in return for favours such as free tickets to Parliament. When the party leadership reneged on their promises to allow some Vanguard leaders clear passage to parliament, all hell broke loose as happened in Kuwadzana East. This is where we are right now, awaiting for either the MDC-T leadership to disband the vigilante group, or continue burying their heads in the sand and pretend the group does not exists, as Mugabe’s ZANU-PF did.

It is clear the MDC-T did not intend to have the Vanguard among its structures, even right from its inception. Without defending them, the MDC-T has always advocated for no-violent protests. Except in one or two instances.

MDC-T operated in the same environment as one of the most ruthless regimes in Africa: Mugabe’s ZANU-PF. Weak African opposition parties facing ruthless regimes end up doing what weak parties tend to do: subcontract security functions to non-state actors or vigilante groups such as the Vanguard. The Vanguard thus can be seen as an expression of dismay towards Mugabe’s government’s failure to allow and respect freedoms, rights and democracy.

This approach is very dangerous, particularly in politically fluid environments such as ours. But faced with a whole state apparatus that unashamedly sided with the ruling party of the day, did the MDC-T have any choice apart from organizing their own security? They surely needed security for their premises as well as at rallies and functions.

The tragedy was that the more successful the Vanguard became against ZANU-PF and internal opponents in the MDC-T, the harder it became to demobilize it, and the more the Vanguard become entrenched. As with any organizational structure, their needs became more advanced with time.

While they would worry more about just protecting their functions and premises in 2011, in 2018 the needs have improved. They now want a free chance at Parliament in return for their “service.’ More worryingly, they have morphed into a predatory, quasi-criminal organisation which is not wanted even by the top MDC-T leaders.

According to a paper titles State, Violence and Politics by Manuel Mireanu, “Vigilantism fulfils a security demand. Vigilantism is a form of citizenship that thrives where the State has failed to achieve its goals. Vigilantism appears as a reaction to the state’s perceived inability or unwillingness to enforce the law. Vigilante groups step in to fill the security gap left by weak, incapable or unwilling state agencies”

This is exactly what we saw in Zimbabwe that inspired the formation of the Vanguard by MDC-T. Police brutality and harassment, torture, lack of political will and skewed application of the law are the factors that created the need for the MDC-T to defend its structures, functions, rallies and supporters. Those are the conditional under which paramilitary groups like the Vanguard thrive.

Mugabe provided that perfect condition, and was aided by overzealous supporters the Chipangano.

So before we accuse the MDC-T of running a quasi-military group, let us consider as well what might have motivated them to create such a monster. Mugabe, and ZANU-PF, forced the MDC-T to create the Vanguard.

Contrary To Herald, Kagame Truly Met Chamisa And Nero Never Said He Is Rwanda’s President’s Advisor

By Own Correspondent| ANALYSIS| Contrary to article features by the state owned Herald, (CLICK TO READ MORE) MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa truly met Rwanda’s President.

What is now clear is that someone falsified Chamisa’s original Mat South rally statement and used that to raise questions at Kagame; Rwanda’s President did not know he was responding to a fake statement. This can be seen in the below tweet.

President Kagame can be seen in the below video clearly meeting Chamisa.

Nelson Chamisa and Paul Kagame

Responding to this, MDC Alliance principal, Tendai Biti who also met Kagame said, “the hysteric propaganda around Rwanda and is sad and unfortunate. Our message was clear , we respect and admire the progress that Rwanda has made. Anything else is fake news.”

MDC T Primaries Deadline Extended

By Talent Gondo| Aggrieved aspiring candidates and their supporters have been given another week to lodge their complaints to the party’s elections body before the MDC T concludes the final list of those who will represent the party in the forthcoming polls.

The MDC-T resolved to extend the deadline for its primary elections to end of this week following the successful consensus process which saw the party come up with aspiring legislators and councillors who will run for office in this forthcoming elections.

MDC-T secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora revealed that the party had received a huge number of appeals by party members who complained of various anomalies.

“We are a democratic party and we have said those that were unfairly disqualified or unfairly defeated, should follow due process and raise their complaints.

Further, the holding of primary elections is a democratic process that is encouraged,” he said.

“There have been some instances where some candidates have tried to cheat in the election and we need, therefore, to tighten our systems, but overall, the primaries were good.”

Mwonzora, however, acknowledged that there were still a number of areas where primary elections had not yet been held.

“We haven’t been able to meet our deadlines and we have to deal with appeals that are coming. I think we will be through by the end of this week,” he said.

Among complaints raised by aspiring candidates were allegations of imposition of candidates, outright rigging and violence.

IS THIS FAIR? Mai Titi’s Facebook LIVE Video: Why Is No-one Seeking To Hear Hubby Tapiwa’s Side Of The Story?

By Masimba Musodza| On Monday, Zimbabwe’s social mediaspace was flooded with comedienne Mai Titi’s Facebook live blubberfest a lá Olinda Chapel in which the Brenda Fassie look-alike narrated the story of her love life and how badly it has turned out. She pleaded with her audience not to judge her or seek to silence her.

I am not going to seek to silence her, but I will most certainly judge her and every woman in our society in her situation and say that it is high time they grew up and made grown up decisions or live with the consequences of their imprudent ones.

In that respect, I am not attacking Mai Titi (real name Felistas Murata Edwards) personally, but the culture that breeds women like her and feeds their delusion that they are somehow heroic in their folly and martyrs to a system they have no control over. Nor am I gloating over her current problems, a mental breakdown and living with HIV etc, but looking at these as the consequences of the choices she made as an adult, consequences which she almost certainly she could have avoided if she had made a different set of choices. I am basing my opinion solely on what she said about herself in that video, what has been said by other women in such situations and my observations of Zimbabwean society.

Mai Titi’s story highlights a problem in our contemporary culture as Zimbabweans that is yet to be addressed by those individuals and institutions which shape and direct culture. Women are raised to believe that men are like vending machines; if you put the right coins into the slot, you get precisely what you want! Give the vilest degenerate enough sex, food etc and he will become a loving husband and father. If a husband is cheating, underachieving, violent etc, it is because the woman is not trying hard enough against the competition.

She needs to dress better, perform better in bed, give him more money, put up with his judgemental relatives and spiteful girlfriends and pray to Jesus, while he is not expected to improve his behaviour in any way. Staying married to her is enough. Such a view has been articulated in public by no higher ranking woman than Mrs Joyce Mujuru during her tenure as Deputy President of Zimbabwe. Mai Titi has herself has appeared in a leaked video, where she is teaching younger women how to keep their men by demonstrating sexual techniques that will knock out rivals.
Because of such an outlook, many Zimbabwean girls are not afraid to enter into a relationship with a man who sounds alarm bells.

Even when they find out the nasty things about their partner, many girls will tell themselves, and receive reassurance from a society that firmly believes this, that they can change such a man. It is with such a mentality, such an absolutist view of relationships, that many women are shocked to find that the man they gave their money, their body, their time, against the advice and exortations of friends and family still went on to betray them. By the time they face the reality of this betrayal, the damage has been done in terms of financial and material loss, mental health problems and physical health problems, including HIV and AIDS.
I think that the stakes are higher than they were a generation ago, when many couples start out with very little and then build wealth together, ending with the man running away with it all to give to his new woman. Many Zimbabwean girls of today have accumulated wealth before they enter a life-long relationship. Some look at this wealth as investing in a man who will rise to be a better provider. I recall the case of a Zimbabwean woman in the UK who met a Nigerian man. She looked after him for three years while he studied at university, and sponsored his mother to come over for the graduation ceremony. He then returned to Nigeria, the plan being that she would follow and they would have a traditional Nigerian wedding. He blocked her on Facebook etc, and she discovered from mutual friends that he had found himself a well-paying job in Canada.

Zimbabwean men, on the other hand, are raised not to expect a good woman out of every female they encounter. If I were to do a Facebook Live video lamenting how the prostitute I picked up in a sleazy township club and decided to wife up took all my money and left me with a terrible disease, I doubt that I would get the kind of sympathy and adulation that our sisters are getting. No one would call me “strong.” I would be just that stupid guy who should have known better. In our brave new world of gender equality, why are we not holding women to the same standard?
Women need to offer real incentives for behavioural change. The average Zimbabwean woman knows from the examples set around them that they stand to lose everything- name, dignity, property, children-if they are caught in adultery. So, those that indulge will take measures not to get caught. Men, on the other hand, do not have such incentives. The Zimbawean philanderer can stay in the marriage if he wants to, or go on to marry another nice girl. He can remain in public office, as our line up of government ministers and other officials shows. Yet, these are the men that many Zimbabwean women choose.
I have said it before, and I will reiterate; until arranged marriage becomes a feature of Zimbabwean culture, no woman has the right to complain about the man she has chosen for herself. We need to stop making role models of people like Mai Titi, but deplore them for their lack of guidance. They are not “strong”! They are not “queens.” They are not victims of “patriarchy.”

Speaking of “patriarchy”, did anyone else notice the virtual absence of men in Mai Titi’s video. The man she was complaining about was raised by a single mother of several kids by different men. Mai Titi herself was already raising a child without the father in sight. She mentions her own mother, but no father. And then the White Man in the UK who sends her money. It would appear that strong male role models were absent in Mai Titi’s upbringing, which is probably why she fell in love with Tapiwa. You can also look at the men in the lives of women with similar stories. When Olinda was waxing tearful in the same space, we never heard about her father or Desmond’s.

Women need to abandon the daft notion that any man can change simply because of prayer, good sex, cleaning, cooking, giving birth to children and tolerating violence. Women need to stop acting like little children that can be coaxed with lies and glib promises. If they really valued the things they stand to lose, their property, their bodies, their sexual and mental health, their dignity, they would take measures to protect them.

Councillor Candidate Threatens To Shoot Rival Supporters

Tinashe Kambarami

AN aspiring MDC-T councillor in Bulawayo allegedly pulled a pistol and threatened to shoot party supporters forx allegedly holding primary elections in a constituency he claimed was reserved for youths.

Tinashe Kambarami, who was recently elected to represent the party in the city’s Ward 3, allegedly disrupted MDC-T primary elections in Bulawayo South Constituency on Sunday.

The party was holding primary elections to elect aspiring Members of Parliament and councillors for the area.

An MDC-T insider yesterday said Mr Kambarami disrupted the election, grabbing some of the ballot papers that had been cast.

“He stormed Sizinda Recreational Centre, ordering the party to stop conducting the election claiming that the constituency was on a youth quota and should not be contested,” said the insider.

“He demanded that the elections officer hands over the ballot box to him before producing a gun threatening the election officer.

“The old man, however, did not budge. He (elections officer) tried to leave the premises with the ballot box before Kambarami pushed him, grabbing some of the ballot papers and fleeing with them.”

The insider said some party members tried to apprehend Mr Kambarami, but he allegedly pulled out his gun for the second time.

“He brandished his pistol threatening to shoot anyone who tried to lay their hands on him.

“He jumped into a vehicle and sped off almost running over some of the party supporters who had surrounded his car,” said the source.

Mr Kambarami denied producing a gun, saying party supporters mistook his cellphone for a fire arm.

He claimed he was actually a victim in the chaos for insisting that the party was not supposed to hold elections in the constituency.

“There are some people who were drunk and had been bought to cause commotion.

“They started to wrestle with me and when I removed my cellphone someone said I had pulled a pistol. There was no fire arm as is claimed,” said Mr Kambarami.

MDC-T national chairman Mr Morgen Komichi, addressing a press briefing in Harare yesterday, admitted that violence has characterised the party’s internal polls.

Voter Registration To End 2 Days After Election Proclamation

ZEC Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba

By Paul Nyathi|Contrary to continous social media information that the The Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) exercise for people who intend to vote in this year’s harmonised elections will end two days before elections, the new Electoral Act closes the exercise two days after proclamation of election dates by President Mnangagwa.

Registration for aspiring voters for future elections will however continue.

In an interview with state media over the weekend, ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba confirmed that umder the new law the date will be earlier than in previous elections.

According to Chigumba the cut-off date will allow the elections management body to prepare the final voters’ roll in time.

“There has been an amendment to the law; two days after announcement of election dates is the deadline to register. That gives us sufficient time to prepare the final voters’ roll.

“The next port of call is the gazetting of the provisional voters roll by the President. Fourteen days after proclamation of election dates, the nomination court will sit and we will be able to give the final voters’ roll to political parties,” she said.

Previously, ZEC has raised concerns that the law gave them little time to prepare the final voters’ roll.

Inspection of the provisional voters’ roll closed on Tuesday.

Justice Chigumba said the public turnout has been tremendous.

“Over 700 000 people turned out physically to inspect their names on the voters’ roll and we are very happy with the turnout. The process is going on smoothly,” she said.

Latest statistics from ZEC indicate that around 5 310 734 people have registered to date. Some aspiring voters are also taking advantage of the inspection exercise to register.

Bond Notes Messenger Not Guilty, Acquitted

By Paul Nyathi|A messenger from Safeguard Security Company in Bulawayo who was last week has arrested for allegedly stealing US$4 000 delivery money and replacing it with $4 000 bond notes has been found not guilty by the court and acquitted of all charges against him.

Kumbulani Davi (41) was facing theft charges after he allegedly delivered $4 010 in Bond Notes to his employer instead of US$4 000 payment received company client Old Nic Mine.

The magistrate found him not guilty on the charges indicating that the case state was fragment as there was no loss on any of the parties involved since Bond Notes and US Dollars are pegged at the same value.

The court heard that Davi a trusted messenger of the company under the accounts department, was sent to collect US$4 000 from Old Nic Mine, money for contractual security services rendered to them.

“Davi’s duties included delivering invoices and collecting payments from the company’s clients and handing it over to his employer. On May 11, the accountant at Old Nic Mine, Sethi Nyazenga contacted Safeguard’s credit controller Chester Chamunorwa Machiya to send a messenger to collect $4 000 monthly collection,” he said.

“On May 14, Davi was sent to collect the money from Old Nic Mine. He was given two sealed packs of United States dollars which contained a total of 200 notes in $20 denominations.

“On the same date, Davi handed over $4 010 in denominations of $5 and $2 bundles bond notes to his company.

“The money was verified and it was discovered that there was an extra $10. The paying officer at Old Nic Mine, Tracy Gambakwe, was contacted and notified of the excess $10.”

The court heard that she said it was impossible for the denominations to be in excess as she had handed US$20 by 200 to Davi leading to his arrest.

Kagame Dismisses Chamisa, “I don’t know this man”

Rwandan President Paul Kagame

By Paul Nyathi|Rwandan President Paul Kagame has declined ever meeting with the MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa and dismissed claims that Chamisa helped formulate the Rwandan ICT policies.

In a social media reaction to Chamisa’s weekend claims that he had assisted the recovering African country come up with its ICT policies, President Kagame declined even knowing the MDC-T leader.

“First my name is Kagame not kagama,” wrote Kagame in his official Twitter page.

“Secondly, I don’t know this man and no discussion ever happened with him anywhere, thirdly Rwanda’s ICT policy, projects and program started before MDC formation and politics,” said Kagame.

Addressing a crowd of about 7000 people who braved the scorching heat in Beitbrdge on Saturday, claimed a hand in turning around of genocide ravaged Rwanda which is, today, one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

Chamisa, who was the Zimbabwean ICT minister in the Government of National Unity said he had helped the Rwandese leader come up with the country’s ICT policy after a meeting they held in Geneva Switzerland with former President Robert Mugabe.

“I helped him on his ICT policy, on how to turn around the country when we met in Geneva, Switzerland and he was happy with my presentation.

“He (Kagame) asked and enquired about me from former president Robert Mugabe and he told him that I belonged to his party Zanu PF, but I told him (Kagame) there and there that I belong to MDC party led by the late Morgan Tsvangirai.

Mai Titi’s LIVE Video Divides Zimbabweans

Facebook comedy sensation Mai TT is trending after hogging the limelight on Monday when she openly stated that her ex-husband Tapiwa Mutikani infected her with HIV years back and was spreading the disease by sleeping around with different women.

Using her Facebook fan page, the ever jovial Mai TT (real name Felistas Edwards), who was in a sombre mood, poured her heart out telling her fans that she had resorted to recording comedy skits to cheer herself up.
“I pretend that I’m okay, but I’m not. I’ve turned all my sorrow into jokes,” she said.

In a 30-minute outburst, the comedian said her ex husband, who recently married another woman —purportedly the fourth — had provoked her by sending images of his traditional wedding with the latest wife, Ru, yet he was not providing for the upkeep of their daughter TT.

“He sent me pictures bragging that I always complained about his status (HIV) saying there were women who loved him the way he was and that’s why he was getting married. I know that your wife doesn’t know that you’re positive yet you want to go around talking sh** about me and yet you don’t support your child,” said Mai TT.

“This guy killed me! He ruined my life! This guy made me go through a lot of sh** and made my family reject me! This guy ruined my health! This guy called Tapiwa Mutikani, God, I put him in your hands, I’ll never forgive him,” wailed Mai TT.

“I curse you; you shall know no happiness in your life. I don’t care whoever you’re marrying, (whether it’s) Ruth Maponga. Even at my funeral or when my child is getting married, don’t come. You aren’t worthy to be called a father. You are a worthless piece of . . .” ranted Mai TT.
Before ranting, Mai TT had given a brief background of how she met her ex-husband. She said she loved him so much even though her mother advised her otherwise.
But, it seemed this was not the first time that Mai TT was angered and insulted her ex-hubby who she said had a wandering eye, as she was once arrested for a similar issue.

“I don’t care if you send me back to jail for insulting and assaulting you like the last time. I wanted you to be arrested for deliberate transmission but you begged me.

“You can marry it’s ok. I have a life that is four times, 20 000 times better than yours. I just wanted you to be there in the life of your daughter.”

The sobbing comedian also spoke of how she fought with Mutikani’s girlfriends on several occasions before warning his latest mistress to be wary of him.

Vowing to take care of her children without the support of Mutikani whom she claimed even abused his younger sister, Mai TT said she had enrolled their daughter at an expensive school where school fees is a $1 000 with the hope that she would take care of her later in life.

Her fans were dumbfounded at the claims on the video with some telling her not to hang her dirty linen in public, but Mai TT’s reply was simply “I don’t care”.

“This is my life! Don’t call me! I can say whatever I want about my life. I go through a lot of sh** in my life. If you see him at my funeral or next to my daughter, chase him away.

“This is my story, stop judging me. You don’t know me. You don’t know what I’ve been through and you don’t know or have an idea,” cried Mai TT. Chronicle

Another Internet sensation, Olinda Chapel, who once ranted when she was dumped by rapper Stunner, rendered support to Mai TT.

“Mai TT, I’m your sign that God is there. Look at me now and how far I’ve come. You too can do it,” said Olinda.

Mai Chisamba on the other hand said as saddening as Mai TT’s issue was, she needed to find ways to deal with her issues privately.

“What’s saddening about this issue is that if people are husband and wife, their life should be about taking care of each other and loving each other.

“Even when one gets ill, no one should poke fun at the other because when we take vows we say in health and in sickness, so when things get to that stage, you need to talk as a family.
“These two should have sought help in time and taken care of each other,” said Mai Chisamba. – state media

Mnangagwa Holds Own Fun Run

ZANU-PF Youth League will tomorrow hold the #EDhasMyVote 5km fun run at Mkoba Stadium in Gweru as a precursor to the youth convention a few hours later at the open space behind Mkoba Teachers’ College.

More than 30 000 youths are expected to converge in Gweru for the Zanu-PF National Youth Convention to be addressed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The convention brings together youths from the country’s 10 provinces to a dialogue with President Mnangagwa.

The fun run will start at 6am and end at 7am, while the convention is set to start at 9am.

Zanu-PF national youth secretary for education Wellington Tagarira, who is also the race director, said the fun run is open to everybody, particularly the youths.

“The aim of the fun run is to garner support for our President, and all the youths from all over the country are encouraged to come in their numbers to participate as there will be various prizes to be won. Even those from opposition parties are welcome to participate because Cde Mnangagwa is not only the President of Zanu-PF youths, but President of Zimbabwe. We have no limit for the number of people that want to participate, so all those that want to participate can register at the provincial Zanu-PF office in Gweru,” Tagarira said.

He said the fun run will be in four categories, the Under-19, 20-30 and 31-40 age groups as well as the wheelchair race.

“First and second positions in the Under-19 category will walk away with $150 and $100 respectively, while positions three to 10 will receive $75. In the 20-30 age group, the top three will get $300, $200, $100 and from fourth to 10th they’ll get $50 each. In the 31-40 age group, the winner and the first runner-up will receive $150 and $100 respectively, while those who will take position three to 10 will walk away with $75. The same will apply for the wheelchair category,” he said.

Tagarira said the fun run will be held in every province whenever the President meets the youths.

“EDhasMyVote 5km fun run will be held in every province when the President holds rallies. This is an initiative meant to bring youths together through sport,” Tagarira said. – state media

Mnangagwa Follows Chamisa

By Farai D Hove| President Mnangagwa has embarked on a tour described as a chasing up of Nelson Chamisa in his footsteps.

Two weeks ago Chamisa was in Mutare and the following week, Mnangagwa would hold his own rally there. This time Mnangagwa jets over to Matebeleland South where Chamisa held his mass rallies 4 days ago.

Commenting on the development, activist Euston Banda claimed Mnangagwa “appears troubled and kwese kwabva Chamisa ndiko kwaari kutevera.”

Mnangagwa will visit Matabeleland South Province on Saturday where he will tour projects in Gwanda and Beitbridge areas and address people from the province.

Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs Minister  Abednico Ncube is quoted by the state media saying the President will visit Tulimanyange Dam site in Ntepe area, Gwanda South, and a proposed irrigation project near Zhove Dam in Beitbridge.

“We are excited to be hosting President Emmerson Mnangagwa who will be visiting our province. He will visit the proposed Tulimanyange dam site where he will address people from the entire province in Ntepe.

“He will then proceed to Beitbridge where he will go to Zhove Dam to see a proposed irrigation project. Preparations for his visit are in progress but everything is in order. We expect people to come in numbers from all our seven districts to meet the President,” he said.

Ncube expressed hope that the visit by President Mnangagwa will see these projects kick off as they are now long overdue.

He said construction of the Tulimanyange Dam was approved in 1970 after a feasibility study but the project had not taken off.

Ncube said the projects in both areas would go a long way in assisting the communities.

“The Tulimanyange Dam is supposed to have the Lower Tuli Dam and Upper Tuli Dam which is to be the main dam. Studies revealed that after the dam was completed there was going to be a pipeline that would convey water to several villages namely Ntalale, Mawaza, Gungwe and Makokwe, the latter which has soils that are suitable for irrigating sugar cane.

“A number of irrigation schemes are set to benefit from the project. Pipelines are also expected to be installed at Zhove Dam in Beitbridge to supply water to rural and urban communities. The dam is quite big and if resources permit a number of people can benefit from it,” he said.

Brace For Steeper Fuel Price Hikes: Mangudya

John Mangudya

RESERVE Bank of Zimbabwe governor, John Mangudya has warned that foreign currency shortages coupled with the country’s shrinking export bill and galloping fuel prices on the global market will continue to push up the prices of fuel in the country.

Mangudya sounded the alarm bells when he appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy, where he was accompanied by Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) chief executive officer, Gloria Magombo and Energy secretary, Partson Mbiriri.

He said the recent fuel shortages experienced on the local market were a result of international hikes in fuel prices, which resulted in RBZ’s $10 million weekly allocations for fuel imports falling short of the country’s normal requirements.

ZEC Refuses To Release Provisional Voters Roll

David Coltart

By Paul Nyathi|The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has refused to provide election stakeholders with copies of the provisional voters roll which was being inspected by voters for the last ten days.

In a reaction to the rather strange move by the Commision, elections watchdog the Election Resource Centre on Tuesday made an urgent chamber application seeking a court order compelling ZEC to release the Provisional Voters’ Roll used for the current Inspection Period

Opposition MDC Alliance coalition candidate who is also the MDC Secretary for Legal Affairs David Coltart questioned why the electoral commission was refusing with the roll hinting that the commission is being controlled by the military.

“This is a critically important case. The question is why the ZEC has to be taken to court at all to get this information? If this was a truly independent body, and not controlled by the military, one would think it would be committed to transparency,” said Coltart.

The court had not yet made a determination on the issue at the time ZimEye.com wrote this article.

“Dump Bhora Musango”: Chiwenga Tells Party Cadres

By Own Correspondent| Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga has told party supporters to dump the “Bhora Musango” mantra since this action had no place within the revolutionary party as the country heads for the watershed polls.

Chiwenga urged Zanu-PF members to unite and set aside their differences the majority of which emanated from the party’s just-ended primary elections.

Addressing a healing and reconciliation workshop for the ruling party’s winning and losing candidates in Harare today (Tuesday), Vice President Chiwenga urged Zanu Pf cadres to focus on winning the forthcoming elections.

“Bhora musango mantra has no place in the revolutionary party.

Petty differences should not distract the party from winning the coming harmonised elections,” said Chiwenga.

“Bhora musango” was popularised in the 2008 harmonised elections when Zanu PF supporters voted for their preferred candidate in the council and parliamentary election but voted for an opposition presidential candidate.

“Bhora musango” saw former President Robert Mugabe suffer a humiliating defeat at the hand of the late opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai in a development which later culminated into a government of national unity.

Hungwe, Mukupe Are Merely Reflecting Typical Zanu PF Mentality

Minister Terence Mukupe

Terrence Mawawa

Zanu PF critic and political analyst Antony Taruvinga has sensationally said Deputy Finance Minister Terrence Mukupe and Masvingo State Minister Josaya Dunira Hungwe’ s remarks mirror the ruling party’ s bullyboy mentality.

“Terence Mukupe and Josiah Hungwe are speaking
from a very informed position.

There is a mixture of
intimidatory and spirit dampening tactics as well as
plans of another coup by this military government.

The statements are clearly meant to defeat the purpose of
holding elections.

Nelson Chamisa is travelling
across the country, meeting the electorate,
spreading the message of change and energising
every Zimbabwean for change.

The people of Zimbabwe must resist this cowardly
and ludicrous gesture!

International observers are following events in
Zimbabwe with keen interest and they will definitely
intervene if Mnangagwa and his junta officials
refuse to vacate office,” wrote Taruvinga on Facebook yesterday.

ConCourt To Deliver Judgement On Diaspora Vote

By Own Correspondent| The Constitutional Court (ConCourt) will tomorrow (Wednesday) 30 May 2018 hand down its judgment on an application filed by three Zimbabweans challenging some restrictive provisions of the Electoral Act which disenfranchise Zimbabweans in the diaspora.

According to the Act, Zimbabwean citizens living outside the country cannot participate in the country’s electoral processes.

The judgement will be delivered at 09:30am at Mashonganyika Building in Harare.

The Full Bench of the ConCourt led by Deputy Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza had reserved judgment on Wednesday 14 March 2018 after hearing arguments from the applicants’ lawyer Advocate Thabani Mpofu instructed by Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) and the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) and from some lawyers representing the respondents.

In his arguments, Advocate Mpofu asked the ConCourt to grant an order sought by the three applicants led by human rights lawyer Gabriel Shumba and two other applicants to compel the respondents, to facilitate the amendment of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) and put appropriate measures so as to enable Zimbabweans living and working abroad to participate in the country’s electoral processes.

The respondents include the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) among others.

Advocate Mpofu argued that the residents’ requirements imposed under the Electoral Act are unconstitutional and that the new Constitution, which provides for political rights allows for every citizen of Zimbabwe to participate in political processes, wherever they are.

The applicants want some restrictive provisions of the Electoral Act, which disenfranchises some Zimbabweans based on their physical positions struck off the country’s statutes.

Why Zanu PF Will Thrash Opposition

Terrence Mawawa Masvingo

A senior Zanu PF official has disclosed the major secret behind the ruling party’ s unprecedented political dominance.

Speaking at a public debate on the coming General Elections in Masvingo last week, Zanu PF Central Committee member, Clemence Makwarimba bragged about his party’ s no nonsense approach to the voter registration exercise. The public debate was facilitated by Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development(COTRAD).

Makwarimbwa denied opposition supporters were forced to submit their voter registration serial numbers.

“Our strategy is simple, we always make sure that all our members are registered voters. Remember it is a game of numbers.

We are very strict about the voter registration process.

When we asked our members to submit their serial numbers, we simply wanted to gauge our support base- nothing else,” said Makwarimba.

“Zanu PF has never rigged elections. Our party simply uses game changing tactics,” boasted Makwarimba.

Trains President Mnangagwa Commissioned Under $400 mln Deal Have Not Moved An Inch Since Day One

The trains President Emmerson Mnangagwa commissioned in February under a $400 million investment deal in Bulawayo, have not moved n inch.

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) is failing to use the railway equipment it received under the US$400 million Diaspora Infrastructure Development Group (DIDG) deal. The equipment is incompatible with the Zimbabwe rail system.

NRZ general manager Lewis Mukwada was quoted by the The Zimbabwe Independent saying “Out of the consignment of 10 locomotives we received, there are some that are in use. We have deployed four of those on the Harare-Bulawayo section. The challenge is that some of them are heavy and they can’t move on some of our sections.”

Other sources said, “The wagons and coaches, some of which were delivered in February, have not been used on any day. The challenge is that their thickness and weight is not compatible with the railway line used in Zimbabwe…South Africa and other countries in the region have upgraded their systems from the 45kgs on a metre specification for their rail equipment to about 54kgs per metre in terms of the weight on their railway… Our railway lines are not made to that specification.”

The Transport and Infrastructural Development minister, Jorum Gumbo denied that there was an incompatibility problem.

“We Cannot Afford To Lose Majome”: Komichi

By Own Correspondent| The MDC T led by Nelson Chamisa has extended an olive branch to Harare West legislator, Jessie Majome in a move aimed at resolving the challenges which pushed her to declare that she will contest this forthcoming elections as an independent candidate.

In an interview with ZimEye following the press conference held at Morgan Tsvangirai House in Harare (Tuesday), the party’s National Chairperson, Morgen Komichi said his party could not afford to lose talented and hardworking cadres like Majome.

“We are in dialogue with Majome. We like her. She is a hard worker, a top parliamentarian.

“We don’t want to lose a strong woman like Jessie Majome. We would have lost a great leader if we let her go,” said Komichi.

He said his party had engaged Majome to convince her to take up other leadership positions including senatorial.

“We don’t want her to stand as an independent. There are so many options around her. We have positions in the PR in the Senate, it’s up to her now to chose where she wants to go,” said Komichi.

He said the party was aware that her declaration to stand as an independent was done out of emotions.

“We know she has acted out of emotions and now she has calmed down. We are in dialogue with her,” said Komichi.

Watch the video below for Komichi’s sentiments regarding Majome and more.

Mukupe Exposed As Dodgy Commisioner Of Oaths In ZEC Scam

The deputy finance minister Terence Mukupe has been exposed in the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission scam involving voter registration.

The MDC T says they find “incidents of details sent on cellphones from ZEC not corresponding with the physical roll are worrisome. Some names are entered correctly, but the gender is incorrect. Others have received messages confirming their registration centres but upon physical inspection, realised they had been posted to a different polling station, or their names were missing completely from the roll.”

The full statement continued saying:

“We have also received reports where people are re-registering themselves but in different wards and constituencies. A case in point is the registration of residents of ward 45 in Harare East onto the ward 25 of Goromonzi South voters’ roll. And the commissioner of oaths to the residential affidavits is one Terrence Mukupe whose recent notorious and treasonous utterances that the Zanu PF regime will not accept an election result that favours the opposition, leaves a lot to be desired.

“If ZEC can not produce a clean voters’ roll, then it casts an aspersion on the credibility of this upcoming election. Little wonder why there was little information and voter education on inspecting the Voter’s roll, and the refusal by ZEC to give us a copy of the provisional voters’ roll.

“We demand a searchable copy of this voters’ roll so that we are able to assist ZEC in identifying all the duplicates and fictitious names in the current roll.

Ballot Paper Printing
We are barely a month away from the election and our demand for an open tender system with regards to the printing of the ballot papers and other election materials has been ignored by the Mnangagwa administration.

The MDC will not allow for the only amendment to section 22A of the Electoral Act that allows the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to establish more polling stations for an area that has a larger voter population.

We will not accept the establishment of undesignated polling stations as this will open the vote to manipulation.

For the avoidance of doubt, the following matters remain outstanding and need urgent resolution:-

a. observation of the printing of the ballot papers
b. External/ Independent audit of the voters’ roll
c. Militarisation of ZEC
d. Militarisation of the electoral process
e. Diaspora Vote
f. That this election be SADC and AU guaranteed.

We demand that these and other reforms be implemented if this country is going to have a truly free, fair and credible election.

I thank you. “

MDC T Clarifies On Primary Elections

By Own Correspondent| The Nelson Chamisa led MDC T today (Tuesday) issued a press conference clarifying several issues regarding the recently held primary elections, the voters roll inspection, ballot paper printing and diaspora vote among others.

Below is the full text of the party’s statement issued by the National Chairperson, Morgen Komichi at Morgan Tsvangirai House at 10 am in Harare.

ZimEye livestreamed the event. Watch the video below.

National Chairperson Hon Morgen komichi’s statement to the Press
Morgan Tsvangirai House, Harare
29 May 2018

Primary Elections
The People’s Party of Excellence, MDC, has conducted its Primary elections and we now have a list of our parliamentary candidates, who will represent the MDC T Alliance in the 2018 Elections.

Our Alliance partners are fielding their candidates and we are working closely together to field the best candidate for the area.

Negotiations are taking place among our Alliance Partners in areas where, for instance, our candidate is weak and an alliance candidate is strong, so that a stronger candidate will stand in such constituencies. In this process, we have also respected the women and youth quota.

We concluded the consensus building process, and we attended to the consensus appeals. We then moved to the next level which was the holding of primary elections.

We are pleased that our elections where conducted by an independent commission in a very democratic way. We are pleased as a party.

We are currently dealing with all the primary elections appeals. The Appeals tribunal is ceased with these matters.

However, the party is investigating allegations of violence and those who are found wanting will be penalised.

80% of the constituencies have been covered and we will be done with all the gap constituencies by this Saturday.

Voters’ Roll Inspection
Today marks the last day of the voters’ roll inspection. The anomalies have been glaring and telling. These anomalies justify our deafening calls for an independent audit of the Biometric Voters’ Roll.

Reported incidences of details sent on cellphones from ZEC not corresponding with the physical roll are worrisome. Some names are entered correctly, but the gender is incorrect. Others have received messages confirming their registration centres but upon physical inspection, realised they had been posted to a different polling station, or their names were missing completely from the roll.

We have also received reports where people are re-registering themselves but in different wards and constituencies. And the commissioner of oaths to the residential affidavits is one Terrence Mukupe whose recent notorious and treasonous utterances that the Zanu PF regime will not accept an election result that favours the opposition, leaves a lot to be desired.

We demand a searchable copy of this voters’ roll so that we are able to assist ZEC in identifying all the duplicates and fictitious names in the current roll.

Ballot Paper Printing

The MDC will not allow for the only amendment to section 22A of the Electoral Act that allows the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to establish more polling stations for an area that has a larger voter population.

Khupe To Use Vanguard Leader As Witness Against Chamisa

Shakespeare Mukoyi

By Paul Nyathi|Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T is planning to use somewhat disgruntled MDCT Vanguard youth militia commander Shakespeare Mukoyi as their key witness in the case against rival MDCT leader Nelson Chamisa

The Khupe faction wants to drag Mukoyi to the court following his revelations in the weekend media that he was approached by Chamisa’s allies to effect leadership change in the party before the death of founding President Morgan Tsvangirai.

He further claimed that the party leadership had blessed their activities that included the unleashing of violence on Dr Khupe and her allies.

A delighted Khupe’s deputy, Obert Gutu told the state run Chronicle newspaper that they have the Chamisa-led outfit where they want them.

“Since the Supreme Court said our case can go for trial, this is a good development for us. We have these guys where we want them to be,” he said.

“We are going to approach the courts to have Mukoyi testify in court and reveal what they did in view of his confession. We will call him our star witness as you know that in terms of the law, we can subpoena him. We will subpoena him to reveal the truth.”

The two factions are involved in a court battle over legitimacy and the use of the MDC-T name and logo.

Gutu said his group feels vindicated in the wake of Mr Mukoyi’s revelations.

“We have been saying this all along that Chamisa is illegitimate and we have been subjected to a barrage of attacks and insults with Dr Khupe actually being assaulted,” he said.

“At last the chickens are coming home to roost. Now the truth is coming out from right within their ranks.”

In the wide ranging interview, Mukoyi said:

“During the time when Tsvangirai was on his deathbed, my brother (Charlton) Hwende and other leaders approached me saying the situation was bad and the party needed new leadership.

“They told me that the work that they were about to do had to be done by the youth assembly, especially the Vanguard, which they are now dismissing as thugs today. We fought to bring sanity in the party until we had this hierarchy that we are having today.

“I feel betrayed that they say the Vanguard is bad, yet they are the ones who were behind the operations of the Vanguard. This is bad. Maybe, as leaders they have their wisdom to say that, but I don’t think that is right.”

Mukoyi is enmeshed in a messy fight for the right to represent Kuwadzana East constituency in the forthcoming parliamentary elections with MDC-T deputy Treasurer, Hwende.

Primary elections in the constituency were aborted over the weekend after both candidates made counter claims of violence and intimidation against each other.

“Karenyi Using Violence To Win Primaries”

Lynette Karenyi

By Own Correspondent| MDC T Women’s wing boss, Lynette Karenyi has been fingered in the violence which rocked Chikanga Dangamvura last week.

Mildred Sotaimunhu, made a raft of allegations against the aspiring legislator accusing her of hiring thugs to disrupt the primary elections held on Africa Day in the constituency.

Below is Mildred Sotaimunhu’s full text.

Lynette Karenyi Used Violence in a bid to win Chikanga Dangamvura Constituency Primaries.
*Chikanga Dangamvura residents were left in shock while others were left nursing their wounds after they were butchered and terrorised by terrorists who were send by an Aspiring candidate Lynnet Karenyi on the 25th May 2018.*
These terrorists were in different  groups. The most radical group was led by Raphel Mutandi, who is the young brother to the District Organising Secretary and driver to Tatenda Nhamarare, Kingston Mutandi.
The other group was led by Tendai Mudzipurwa. He was with a UD truck which belongs to Davison Maradza of Hobhouse. Tendai Mudzipurwa is the loosing candidate for ward 17.
The hullabaloo started in ward 13 where the team which was led by Sekai Mukodza of ward 16 stormed the polling station and grabbed the ballot papers.
Joyce Makonya’s son Shingirai took the ballot papers from the National leader Kagodora and threw them all over the place. Sekai Mukodza gathered the ballot papers and Shingirai burnt them. Tobias Mukodza , Sekai’s brother and Makonya’s other son were shouting at the presiding officer.
Kind Karenyi also came to the polling station driving his sister ‘s BT 50 truck carrying people  who were singing anti- Mutseyami songs.
On Thursday, there was a meeting at Sekai  Mukodza’s homestead where they planned to disrupt the election in ward 13. Kingston Mutandi was the chief organiser of the plan.
Ward 19 Primary was disrupted by a group which was led by Tendai Mudzipurwa. They were about 25 in a UD truck.
The same UD went to ward 18 and dropped people. These people joined the queue with the intentions of provoking people but people remained silence. After some few minutes the radical team who were in a white twin cab and a single cab which were left parked at Mukwena Shopping centre came and grabbed the ballot papers.
One of these vehicles was driven by Obey Karenyi while the other was driven by Kind Karenyi. Joyce Makonya’s last born son was also there with another pick up which had thugs. This team together with  people who were dropped by the UD truck started beating up people.
Many people were left nursing their wounds. The leader of the terrorists is Raphael Mutandi who is the young brother to the District Organising Secretary and driver to Tatenda Nhamarare.
In ward 9, Hon Teti Banda claimed that the sitting councillor Dube was disqualified, therefore he can not contest. She also also said the constituency belongs to a woman.
In ward 6, Shakespeare, Chirangano ward chair, Oliver Mugodhi organizing sec, Spiwe Terere,Stephen Mutukumira, Raphael Mutandi and his group forcefully took the ballot boxes and dispersed people.
In ward 8, Tatenda Nhambarare hired Taurai Gumedhe and his team who came and declared that the ward belongs to Tatenda. Taurai and team had matchets. Nhamarare addressed people saying that the ward was declared for youths by President Nelson Chamisa. Kingstone Mutandi was also there with a silver city council vehicle.
Before the election day, Tatenda Nhamarare called Raphel Mutandi at civic centre and gave him money.
In ward 7, where the National Secretary General of Youth Assembly was Presiding, the process was disrupted by a team led by Harriet Mudzipurwa who is from ward 2 in Sakubva. Another candidate was overheard calling Hon Karenyi telling her that people are now voting and the team must come immediately to disrupt  the process.
Meanwhile, Chikanga Dangamvura Constituency Primary election will be held on Saturday this week.

Chamisa Fun Run, Mnangagwa Runs Too, Will he Make It?

By Paul Nyathi|After MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa went on a five kilometre fun run with his wife over the weekend, ZANU PF Youth members have taken the challenge and invited President Emmerson Mnangagwa to also engage in the same run in Gweru ahead of their interface rally with him.

Chamisa being only 40 years old had no problem taking the run, the big question is will Mnangagwa at 75 and with his health complications that see him in and out of the country repeatedly make it.

Mnangagwa Holds Youth Interface Rally

Pupurayi Togarepi

More than 30 000 youths are expected to converge in Gweru on Thursday for the Zanu-PF National Youth Convention to be addressed by President Mnangagwa.

Zanu-PF Youth League secretary Pupurai Togarepi said all was set for the event to be held at the open space behind Mkoba Teachers’ College.

“We are looking for youths in all sectors that is the political, social and economic side,” he said.

“We are also expecting youths from international branches like South Africa and the United Kingdom.

“The Youth League is also looking at bringing youths from the churches and we are saying every youth should be part of the event. We know youths in those sectors have got challenges and ideas and we want to share that with the President.”

He added: “It is not going to be a rally, but real interface and the President will address the youths as a group at the end.

“The youths will be communicating directly with their leader.

“Some youths have challenges of not going to school, some might be in churches and lack economic support and some are failing to register companies while others are failing to make it because of corruption in certain areas.

“We expect the President to proffer solutions to some of the issues which are affecting the youths to develop themselves.”

He said logistically, all was now in place and they were expecting a bumper crowd.

“We are targeting not less than 30 000 youths,” Cde Togarepi said.

“We are putting final touches on our preparations, but most of the essential things are in place.”

Kisinoti Mukwazhe Loses Challenge On Mnangagwa

Kisinoti Mukazhe

The President is obliged by the law to proclaim dates for the harmonised election within the prescribed period and neither a court of law nor any individual, for whatever reason, can stop him from performing such a mandatory function, Chief Justice Luke Malaba has ruled.

Chief Justice Malaba said this while dismissing an application by two fringe opposition political parties to be allowed to approach the Constitutional Court where they sought an order barring President Mnangagwa from proclaiming the 2018 election date.

Zimbabwe Development Party (ZDP), led by Kisinoti Mukwazhe, and Voice of the People (VOP) — whose president is Moreprecision Muzadzi — sought to stop the President from proclaiming the election date until they get funding for the poll campaign.

The two parties also sought an order compelling Treasury to pay $420 000 to political parties that did not receive funding for 2008 and 2013 election campaigns.

Chief Justice Malaba said proclamation of the election date in terms of Section 144 (1) as read with Section 158 (1) (a) of the supreme law, was mandatory and it could not be stopped for whatever reason.

The court ruled that the intended application had no prospects of success.

The court ruled that a proclamation can only be challenged after it has been made, solely on the ground of non-compliance with the Constitution.

ZDP and VOP argued that the election will never be free, fair and credible until the Political Parties Finance Act is amended to allow all political parties in the race to receive campaign funds.

The Judiciary boss ruled that any court order stopping such a lawful process was contrary to the rule of law.

“No one, including the courts, has power to alter what is mandated by the Constitution in clear, unambiguous and mandatory terms.

“It would be unconstitutional for a court or judge to order the President not to call and set dates for the holding of the harmonised general elections as prayed for by the applicants.

“The mandatory obligation is imposed on the President by the Constitution for the benefit of all the people of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Chief Justice Malaba said the President is guided by the Constitution.

“It is the Constitution itself which dictates what the President must do. The proclamation is directly demanded by the Constitution. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land and the courts cannot abrogate it.

“Their duty is to enforce what the Constitution demands,” reads the judgment.

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) lawyer Mr Tawanda Kanengoni convinced the court that any challenge linked to proclamation can only be made after the act.

“As correctly submitted by Mr Kanengoni, the proclamation can only be challenged after it is made and the challenge can only be on the ground that it has not complied with the relevant provisions of the Constitution,” the Chief Justice ruled.

The minority wanted President Mnangagwa to be ordered to facilitate the repealing of the Political Parties’ Finance Act to ensure all parties compete on a level playing field.

The parties listed President Mnangagwa, Speaker of Parliament and the chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission as respondents.

ZANU PF Agrees On Election Date? Is It July 28?

President Emmerson Mnangagwa to announce election date

By Paul Nyathi|Highly reliable sources with the ruling ZANU PF have revealed that the party’s top leadership has agreed that elections will be held on Saturday the 28th of July 2018.

The sources told ZimEye.com in confidence that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be announcing the election date on the 1st of June calling on the nomination court to sit on the 14th of June 2018.

According to the sources President Mnangagwa has been waiting for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to conclude the voter registration and verification process and finalisation of the voters roll.

ZEC will conclude the voters roll inspection exercise on Tuesday.

The sources further claimed that Mnangagwa has also been waiting for the finalisation of the amendments to the electoral bill which will be signed into law this week for the law to be used in this year’s elections.

Zimbabwe last held elections on the 31st of July 2013 and were won by former President Robert Mugabe and his ZANU PF party. Mugabe was forced to resign from his position before completing his term by the military in a smart coup in November 2017.

ZimEye.com could not confirm the information with the ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Simon Khaya Moyo whose mobile phone was not reachable.

BIZARRE STORY: Drama As Prophet And Goblin Engage In Five Hour Bloody Battle

The bruised Tsikamutanda on course

By Paul Nyathi|Residents of Cowdray Park high density suburb of Bulawayo were on Monday evening taken through an intriguing five hours of drama as a prophet went through a bloody battle with a creature presumed to be goblin he attempted to exorcise.

The prophet had been invited by the residents to “remove” the suspected goblin from a house belonging to a man who residents identified as a Mr Gumbo after they had been exposed to over two weeks of horrific attacks from the goblin.

The residents claimed that the goblin attacked them with stones shuttering windows and roofing of neighbours and also attacked people passing by the area with the stones.

“We could no longer stand the attacks by the goblin and so decided to contribute money as residents and invited the witch hunting prophet known as Tsikamutanda to exorcise the goblin,” said a resident who spoke to ZimEye.com correspondents.

“The prophet identified Mr Gumbo’s to be housing the strange creature but Gumbo initially denied having the thing in his house,” said the resident.

However, after applying his magic charm the goblin is reported to have emerged from Gumbo’s house leading to a protracted battle with the prophet.

The prophet was pelted with stones on the head and all over his body by the invisible creature leaving him bleeding badly.

The prophet conceded an initial defeat and fled the house after Gumbo had also joined his goblin and chased the prophet out of the house in rage.

When ZimEye.com correspondents got to the house Gumbo had closed off his house and was reportedly demanding that the huge crowd that had gathered around his house disperse and allow the prophet to deal with the goblin in a private ceremony.

Highlanders Coach Arrested For Beating Up His Wife

Mandla Mpofu

Highlanders Football Club assistant coach Mandla Mpofu has been arraigned to the courts for beating up his wife after accusing her of driving his car without his consent.

Mpofu (44) punched his wife Ms Nqobile Tshuma (40) twice and violently pulled her out of the car at their place of residence at Margdan Flats along 14th Avenue and Fort Street in Bulawayo.

She had driven the car to a friend’s place to attend a funeral without his consent.

Mpofu pleaded guilty to charges of physical abuse before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Adelaide Mbeure.

He said he punched his wife out of anger and apologised for his actions.

“I had no intention of causing her any bodily harm. I was angry and I am sorry,” he said.

The magistrate fined him $100 or one week in jail.

Ms Tshuma wrote an affidavit where she stated that she had forgiven her husband.

For the State, Mr Maclean Ndlovu said on May 2 at around 7AM, Ms Tshuma drove her husband’s car without his consent and went to attend a funeral.

“On the same date at around 12 noon, she came back home and parked Mpofu’s vehicle. Later on, the two had a misunderstanding as Mpofu was asking his wife why she had driven his car without his consent,” Mr Ndlovu said.

“Mpofu got angry and punched his wife twice on the cheek. He forcibly pulled her out of the vehicle. The accused person had no right to act in the manner he did.”

The court heard that she reported the matter at Bulawayo Central Police Station and did not seek medical treatment.- state media

MP Who Kicked Mnangagwa Ball Into Bush Recalled From Parliament

The Zanu PF MP who performed a bhora musango (kicked president Emmerson mnangagwa’s ball into the bush) at the weekend is set to be recalled from parliament.

The party’s Midlands Province is working on recalling Kwekwe Central Member of Parliament, Masango “Blackman” Matambanadzo after he announced his defection from the revolutionary party at the weekend to join opposition New Patriotic Front (NPF) led by Brigadier-General Ambrose Mutinhiri (Retired).
Matambanadzo was not allowed to contest in the revolutionary party primary elections after his CV was rejected by the province.

He then attended an NPF rally in Kwekwe at the weekend where he announced he will be contesting Kwekwe Central on an NPF ticket in the harmonised elections.
In an interview yesterday, zanu-pf Midlands provincial spokesperson, Cornelius Mupereri said the provincial leadership had called for an emergency meeting to deliberate on the matter.
“We are meeting today (yesterday) to deliberate on Matambanadzo’s fate, but as it stands he has automatically expelled himself from the party so we will be just making it a formality to write to him,” he said.

Mupereri said the provincial leadership was also working on recalling Matambanadzo from Parliament.
“He is a member of Parliament representing zanu-pf so by joining the opposition he ceases to be our member so we will be recalling him from Parliament,” he said.

The party spokesperson said the revolutionary party was not fazed by the crowds that attended the NPF rally in Kwekwe saying the party was going to an election more united than ever.

“Under the new dispensation, the party has grown stronger and in this election, we are going there stronger as ever,” he said.

Mupereri said the party will also write to Matambanadzo to return all party property that he has been using as the sitting MP.

Contacted for comment, Matambanadzo confirmed joining the NPF saying he was being pushed out of zanu-pf by what he described as “greedy and selfish” individuals from the party’s provincial leadership..

He accused some party officials of holding personal grudges against him, which led to his disqualification.
“If you ask them why they disqualified me and blocked me from contesting the primary elections, they will not give you an answer.

“They are just selfish individuals who think they own the party,” he said.- state media

VIDEO: Mugabe Hangs On Rope

Former president Robert Mugabe is now hanging handum in a rope after he failed to appear at Parliament yesterday. SEE VIDEO:

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy has resolved to send a final letter to Mugabe after he snubbed a hearing on Chiadzwa diamonds for the second time yesterday amid reports that he could be arrested for contempt of Parliament if he continues defying the August House.

The committee said it does not seek to embarrass Mr Mugabe but he faces arrest for contempt of Parliament like the late MDC legislator, Mr Roy Bennet, who was sentenced to one year in jail with hard labour in 2005 for assaulting then Justice Minister, Cde Patrick Chinamasa.
Mr Mugabe is expected to explain his claim that that the country could have lost US$15 billion from Chiadzwa diamond fields.

Committee chairperson and Norton legislator Mr Temba Mliswa said they were hoping that Mr Mugabe would respond to the final letter failure to which he faces contempt of Parliament charges.

“We were expecting the former President, Cde Robert Mugabe, to appear before us as a result of letters that had been written to him requesting his person to be here at 2PM today. He has not attended today’s session. As a result the committee resolved to write to him for the last time because Parliament writes to you twice and then they will summon you,” said Mr Mliswa.

He said the committee unanimously agreed to write to him to appear on June 1 at 2PM.
“In that notification to him, we will also state certain provisions of the Standing Order Rules that attendance before Parliament and Evidence is compulsory. Parliament or a committee by way of summons issued in Section 2 can order a person to appear before it. We will remind him of that.

“These are some of the tenets of the Parliamentary Standing Orders that we will include to remind him that failure to attend, we will have no choice but to summon him, something that we regret doing and we hope not to do. As the former President of Zimbabwe, his legacy needs to be protected and as a result it can only be protected if he follows the rules of the country,” said Mr Mliswa.
The committee chair said Mr Mugabe was not being persecuted as all that was needed was his contribution.

“We still have utmost respect for him, that’s the reason why the committee has exercised this patience but ultimately there are laws and rules which Parliament has to follow which protect the citizens of this country and we hope and pray that we will not get to the stage of summoning the President to appear before us.

“As you know we had equally suggested as a committee in respect of the work that he has done for this country to go and appear at his Blue Roof residence but you must understand it is his choice to allow us to appear there or even be in camera. The options are open to him but he has not responded,” said Mr Mliswa.

“And of course you know that by not attending there is that schedule …he will be in contempt, there are many results. Let me remind you that the late Mr Roy Bennet was sent to prison by Parliament”.

He said when Parliament writes to someone, the person has to write the reasons why they cannot comply.

“Parliament has done everything necessary to ensure that the due process is followed to ensure that the former President attends by sending letters through the right channels which is expected of Parliament,” said Mr Mliswa.

Turning to Home Affairs Minister Dr Obert Mpofu who refused to appear before the committee demanding that Mr Mliswa recuse himself, the outspoken Norton MP said a report had already been sent to the Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda.

Mr Mliswa said Mr Wicknell Chivayo’s Zimbabwe Power Company deal report would be tabled in Parliament today and more reports were likely to be tabled before dissolution of the House. – state media

WhatsApp Leak Fake, Claims ZEC

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has dismissed reports that it is employing serving members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces following a recording circulating on WhatsApp of someone claiming to be working as an undercover soldier within the Commission.

Zec also said its use of bulk messages to confirm registration status is not for purposes of rigging the upcoming harmonised elections.

In a statement, the Acting Chief Elections officer, Mr Utoile Silaigwana, said the SMSs were meant to make the verification process easier and not scrap people from the voters roll as alleged by others.

“Members of the public are hereby advised that the commission has no serving soldiers in its employment and it is false that the use of the USSD code *265# to confirm one’s registration status is a ploy to flash out certain groups of registrants from the Provisional Voter’s Roll. The use of the USSD code and SMSs are initiatives to make one’s registration easily verified,” he said.

“This comes in the wake of a recording circulating on Whatsapp of an individual purporting to be a member of the Zimbabwe National Army deployed at Zec as an intelligence operative.”

Mr Silaigwana said Zec will not hesitate to bring offenders to book.

“Zec is warning those purporting to be part of the electoral management body staff that they risk being prosecuted hence they should stop this practice,” he said.
Mr Silaigwana advised the public to ignore the WhatsApp messages as the commission does not use Whatsapp to communicate.

“Sections 32 and 33 of the Electoral Act clearly state the circumstances under which one’s name can be removed from the voters’ roll either through death, objection or in the case of multiple registrations,” he said.

About a fortnight ago, the commission distanced itself from an application that was circulating on WhatsApp with a Zec logo and the message ‘Click to vote,’ where a message written: “Congratulations! You have voted for Emmarson (sic) Dambudzo Mnangagwa”, appeared following the ‘Click to vote’ command. – state media

Man Sues Own Son-In-Law For Maintenance

A man has dragged his ex-son-in-law to the maintenance Court for the upkeep of one minor child.

Mr Makhi Zulu on Friday demanded $150 from Eden Chuma for the maintenance of a six-year-old boy he sired with his daughter.

“I have been taking care of his child without his contribution. The mother of the child is my daughter and she has left the child in my care. The child is in school and he needs a lot of things like uniforms. I am demanding $150 per month for his upkeep,” he said.

Mr Zulu said Chuma is a self employed painter. Chuma said he could not afford the amount since he is unemployed.

“I am currently unemployed. I am a self employed painter and I don’t earn much. I cannot afford to pay $150 a month. I am married and I also have other children. The only amount I am able to pay is below $70,” he said.

Mr Zulu revised the amount he was claiming. “Considering he is not employed, he should pay $75 plus school fees and also buy uniforms for the child,” he said. Chuma agreed to Mr Zulu’s claims.-state media

Erect Nkomo’s Statue Near Mnangagwa In Harare

THE Joshua Nkomo Cultural Movement (JNCM) has appealed to the Government to erect a statue of Father Zimbabwe, the late Vice President Dr Joshua Nkomo, in Harare.

JNCM chairperson and son to Dr Nkomo, Mr Sibangilizwe Nkomo, said the organisation and family understand that the statue had already been carved. The National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ) in 2014 revealed that Government was working on erecting Dr Nkomo’s statue in the capital.

In December 2013, the Government unveiled Dr Nkomo’s statue in Bulawayo. Mr Nkomo said it was his hope that their request would be acted upon.

“We also requested Government to erect a statue in the capital. We understand the statue is available,” said Mr Nkomo.

He said the organisation has already partnered the Government in wrapping up Joshua Nkomo Centenary celebrations.

Mr Nkomo said a senior Government official is expected to deliver a guest lecture at the Zimbabwe Defence University on the role of the army in nation building as part of the celebrations.

The centenary commemorations have been running under the theme: “A Reflection of Ethical leadership.”

“Government has agreed to work with us on the events that we have proposed. Preparations are now at advanced stage for the commemorations to take place. The commemorations will start on June 7, which is the birthday of Father Zimbabwe. On that day we are going to have a guest lecture at the Zimbabwe Defence University,” said Mr Nkomo.

Dr Nkomo would have turned 100 years last year having been born in 1917.
Mr Nkomo said the JNCM would also hold a dinner dance on June 8 before capping the events with a soccer match pitting Highlanders and Dynamos on June 9.

“We are grateful that the Government agreed to join us in our quest to celebrate our icon. It is our understanding that the lecture will be given by a top Government official,” he said.
Mr Nkomo said Government also made a commitment towards ensuring that Father Zimbabwe’s vision remains alive.

He said optimism had been raised in the family and its partners that Ekusileni Hospital will be opened soon with Government having shortlisted potential investors. Mr Nkomo said it will be the first time the organisation will be holding Dr Nkomo’s commemorations outside Matabeleland region.

“We’re doing so in full realisation that umdala was a national leader. We have held many events in Matabeleland region and this year we decided to host the event in Harare,” he said.
Mr Nkomo said the family was still pursuing Father Zimbabwe’s values of promoting tolerance, peace and national unity. – state media

Prison Officer In Soup For Supporting Chamisa

By Own Correspondent| Authorities here have charged a 36 year-old prison officer stationed at Chiredzi Prison in Masvingo for allegedly undermining President Emmerson Mnangagwa through acknowledging opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa as President.

John Mahlabela was summoned to appear before a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday 12 June 2018 by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) for his political comments inviting Chamisa to visit Chiredzi in a Twitter comment.

He is being charged for contravening section 3(1) of the Prison (Sfaff) (Discipline) Regulations1984.

“According to ZPCS, Mahlabera allegedly posted a message on micro blogging site Twitter, which reads; “Come to Chiredzi my president,” said the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).

The ZPCS said Mahlabera posted this message after an MDC-T party rally that was held at Jerera Growth Point in Zaka in Masvingo province, which was addressed by MDC Alliance presidential candidate, Chamisa.

ZPCS said by posting such a message on Twitter, Mahlabera showed loyalty to Chamisa and disloyalty to President Mnangagwa.

“The ZPCS charged that Mahlabera’s conduct was disgraceful to Mnangagwa and the prison officer had no right whatsoever to act in the manner he did,” aid the ZLHR.

Four witnesses will testify against Mahlabera during the disciplinary hearing to be conducted next month in Masvingo, where the prison officer will be represented by Collen Maboke and Blessing Nyamaropa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

ZLHR’s records compiled since 2010 show that the organisation has attended to close to 200 cases where people have been arrested and charged for allegedly “insulting or undermining the authority of the President.”

ZADHR Blasts Mukupe Over ARV Slur

By Own Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR) has blasted Finance deputy minister Terrence Mukupe over his sentiments on radio that former Finance minister, Tendai Biti had not taken his dose ARVs before going on air.

During a live radio debate with Biti last week, Mukupe suggested that Biti was losing his temper during the live debate because he had not taken his medication.

Mukupe said the statement to Biti after he had alleged Mukupe was high on drugs.

“For the purposes of denigrating and casting the listenership of StarFM against the person of Mr Tendai Biti, Deputy Minister Mukupe asked Mr Biti if he had taken his anti-retroviral (ARVs),” the doctors lobby group said in a statement.

The ZADHR reiterated that political leaders must be torch bearers in the fight against HIV and Aids and associated stigma and discrimination.

“Hon Mukupe’s utterances casts aspersions in this fight.

“We believe the lack of appreciation of issues such as the impact of HIV and Aids on the socio-political landscape of the country generally drive the poor financing of the sector. Hon Mukupe, in this instance, personifies such failures.

The lobby group said Mukupe’s remarks was a reflection why there was limited commitment towards HIV programming including stigma and discrimination.

“Stigma and discrimination remain a threat to the fight against HIV and Aids and, as ZADHR, we call upon all leaders, political, religious and community alike to take a stand against this vice.”

‘Thousands Of MDC Supporters Are Unregistered Voters’

MDC rally Bulawayo White City

Terrence Mawawa

Former Radio Zimbabwe presenter
Ezra Tshisa Sibanda has sensationally claimed that thousands of MDC supporters who attend the party’ s rallies countrywide are unregistered voters.

Sibanda urged the opposition party to encourage its supporters to register to vote as relying on record figures at party rallies would not guarantee victory.

“The MDC primary elections turnout has been abysmal
across the country in comparison with the Zanu PF
primary elections.

For example Hwange Central
with 25 000 registered voters, less than 1200
people voted in MDC primaries there, where my
brother Daniel Molokele won collecting 1012
votes.

MDC rallies are always packed yet the results
of primary elections are shockingly low.

Be warned huge figures at rallies can be deceiving, not all
those who attend are genuinely for you,” said Sibanda.
