Gershem Pasi Nailed Over Huge Debt

Former Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) commissioner-general Gershem Takavada Pasi has been taken to court by BancABC, which is seeking to recover $123 987,59 after he allegedly failed to service a loan facility.

The financial institution issued the summons on February 22 and Pasi is yet to respond to the litigation.

According to the court papers, sometime in January 2014, the bank and Pasi entered into a written agreement in terms of which, the financial institution extended a $250 000 lease hire finance facility to the then Zimra boss.

The loan had an interest of 15% per annum and there was a provision that if Pasi defaulted, the interest would go up to 25%.

“The defendant defaulted on making due and punctual repayments under the written memorandum of lease agreement and as at February 2018, is in the arrears in the sum of $129 846.26.

The said sum of money is made up as follows: $123 987,59 being the capital and $5 858,26 being interest,” the bank said in court papers. Standard

Chamisa Arrest Plot Backfires

Pedzisai Ruhanya | The arrest story against President Nelson Chamisa by the regime on alleged complicity in MDC-T violence is the greatest nonsense of all time. It is however, a very good publicity stunt and does well for his legitimation process in the MDC-T and the general anti-regime contingent. ZANU PF has clearly shown that Chamisa is now their greatest threat following its military coup. The apparent vilification of Chamisa will backfire as this anoints him as the most genuine opposition leader post Morgan Tsvangirai. These coup plotters are now quacking, they are facing a political hara-kiri!

Drama As Byo Councillors Demand Cash To Bury Tsvangirai

Bulawayo councillors last week almost manhandled council officials after their request to get allowances to attend MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai’s burial in Buhera was turned down.

The councillors, who all are from the opposition party, reportedly approached the Town Clerk, Mr Christopher Dube initially for allowances to attend their late leader’s funeral and when that was proving impossible they then demanded that the local authority gives them an advance of their monthly allowances, a request which was also rejected by council management.

Confirming the developments, public relations officer Miss Bongiwe Ngwenya said after advising the councillors on the implications of their requests they then opted to provide them transport and fuel for the close to 400-kilometre journey.

“The City of Bulawayo gave advice to councillors and facilitated transport for them to travel to Buhera,” said Miss Ngwenya.

Council sources revealed that the councillors were given two minibuses, with the Mayor, Councillor Martin Moyo having his car fuelled for him. Clr Moyo was the official chosen representative for the local authority at the burial, with councillors reportedly coming after demanding that the local authority fund their trip.
“Councillors felt they had to be given allowances to attend Mr Tsvangirai’s burial in Buhera, they actually sent a delegation to Mr Dube to make their demands. However, it was difficult for management to approve this because this was illegal and was tantamount to abusing council resources. When their initial proposal fell through they then requested that they get an advance in their salaries again upon consultation with other directors, Mr Dube rejected this but instead advised them that the best which the local authority could do was to provide transport for them to travel to Buhera,” said the council source.

Last year, the Government pegged monthly allowances for Mayors and councillors stating that the Harare Mayor is supposed to get $1 250, his deputy; $840, Harare committee chairpersons get $560 while ordinary councillors get $550. In Bulawayo the Mayor is supposed to get $1 000, deputy mayor; $660, council committee chairperson; $450 while an ordinary councillor gets $400. In other cities the mayor must get $840, deputy mayor; $550, committee chairperson; $370 and ordinary councillor; $350.

Municipal mayors get $600, deputy mayors; $400, committee chairpersons; $300 and ordinary councillors; $300. Town local board mayors get $560, deputy mayors; $350, committee chairpersons; $300 and councillors; $250.

For Lupane and Chirundu councils the mayors get $350, deputy mayors; $280, committee chairpersons; $240 while ordinary councillors get $200. Sunday News

2018 ELECTION: It’s Mnangagwa vs Chamisa

The titanic MDC leadership battle now appears to be effectively over, bar the shouting, after the country’s main opposition alliance unanimously endorsed Nelson Chamisa as its presidential candidate for this year’s harmonised national elections.

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Tendai Biti — who is also a key figure in the MDC Alliance — told the Daily News on Sunday yesterday that Chamisa’s nomination had been made with the complete agreement of all the leaders of the grouping.

Apart from the mainstream MDC, the alliance includes the PDP, Welshman Ncube’s MDC; Jacob Ngarivhume’s Transform Zimbabwe; Zanu Ndonga which is headed by Denford Masiyarira; and the Multi-Racial Christian Democrats which is led by Mathias Guchutu.

Biti and Ncube are former secretaries-general of the original and united MDC which was led by the late Morgan Tsvangirai — whose recent passing away ignited a damaging three-way leadership tussle within the MDC-T, involving Chamisa, Thokozani Khupe and Elias Mudzuri.

The MDC National Council — which is the main opposition party’s highest decision-making body outside congress — has also already endorsed Chamisa as the party’s acting president, although the gathering that made that decision was contested and boycotted by Khupe and Mudzuri.

Biti said emphatically yesterday, that as a result of the MDC alliance rallying behind Chamisa, the youthful Kuwadzana legislator would be its sole presidential candidate, and would thus square off against President Emmerson Mnangagwa in this year’s presidential elections which are due in less than five months.

The watershed polls will be the first in the past two decades not to feature 94-year-old toppled former president Robert Mugabe and the late Tsvangirai.

“Anyone who fails to see that we are done with the succession issue needs to see a witch doctor. Tsvangirai gave us Chamisa and that automatically means that he becomes the presidential candidate who will face Mnangagwa and his junta. It’s done.

“We are already on the campaign trail having been to Epworth, Mutare and Chitungwiza … and now we are heading to Chinhoyi. We are not going back. We are going for Mnangagwa … we will kick out the junta this time around.

“We have have a dynamic leader in Chamisa and we are brave and ready as a team,” a confident Biti told the Daily News on Sunday yesterday — nonchalantly, and without mentioning their names, drowning the leadership aspirations of Khupe and Mudzuri.

On Friday, a consultative meeting of the MDC which was held at the party’s Harare headquarters — and which was attended by 639 delegates from 210 party districts — also endorsed Chamisa as Tsvangirai’s successor and the party’s presidential candidate in this year’s ballot.

Among other people, this crucial meeting was attended by the national executive, as well as by provincial and district chairpersons from across the country.

Meanwhile, the Daily News on Sunday also understands that the party has roped in Tsvangirai’s former advisor Alex Magaisa, to broker peace and unity among its feuding leaders. Magaisa apparently enjoys cordial relations with all the different camps in the party.

On his part, Chamisa has said that the leadership wrangles bedevilling the party will end soon, adding that he was trying to reach out to Khupe.

“I have been trying to get hold of her but without success so far. But, you do not need to worry about her, all will be well and she will be here soon. We will not leave her out,” he said.
Chamisa’s endorsement by the MDC Alliance also came amid unconfirmed reports that Mudzuri has now also thrown his weight behind the former ICT minister.

Mudzuri himself cryptically told the Daily News on Sunday yesterday that there was need for unity within the party.

“Yes, we have an MDC Alliance, but unity should begin with us. We must settle our differences amicably,” he said.

“We should be uniting … We must work towards ensuring that the party doesn’t split, otherwise we will be left with nothing. We have to unite as a party,” he added.

Asked whether he still considered himself the acting MDC president, Mudzuri said: “The party
cannot be run through the media”.

Khupe, backed by party national chairperson Lovemore Moyo, organising secretary Abednigo Bhebhe and national spokesperson Obert Gutu, is said to be steadfastly refusing to accept that Chamisa is the bona fide successor to Tsvangirai.

Gutu, who has also stopped attending party meetings, told the Daily News on Sunday yesterday: “I will make a big announcement in the fullness of time … because at the moment I am under pressure with corporate responsibilities that are taking much of my time”.

He also insisted that he remained the MDC’s national spokesperson despite his recent absence from duty.

“My deputy (Thabitha Khumalo) is not standing in for me because I am an elected official, a product of congress,” he said when pressed why an acting spokesperson had been appointed in his absence.
In his acceptance speech after the crucial MDC meeting on Friday, Chamisa pledged to unite the party.

“As regards the issue of the party in terms of its unity and hygiene, this is part of what we are doing to make sure that the party is clear so that we remove all the noise in the cockpit … and that people are clear as we prepare for elections … and they are clear in winning the elections,” he said Daily News

Why I say Vote ED

1. He is a war veteran, an ex political detainee, a nationalist, a revolutionary. These are rare qualities.

2. He is mature, haaite 37 years in power as he is 75 but he will do his best in
the next 5 years and retire

3. He has opened Zimbabwe for business unlike the former dispensation that shut down Zimbabwe and unlike the MDC who called for sanctions to shut down Zimbabwe

4. He is a progressive unifier as seen by visiting Tsvangirai, an opponent, when he was ill, committing to pay his medical bills and refunding what he had previously paid, giving Tsvangirai his pension and lastly, upon his demise, a state assisted burial. And allowing Mugabe to retire peacefully

5. He has restored Zimbabwe to the global picture and integration which is set to boost economic recovery and growth after decades of economic stagnation under Mugabe administration

6. ED’s experience in the former administration makes him the guy to easily understand what needs to be fixed, no learning curve effect on ED

7. He is a tough leader required for peace and stability at the moment where Zimbabwe risks invasion on the political scene by militias and mobs who do not want constitutionalism and the rule of law, who in fact think thuggery is a right as witnessed at Tsvangirai’s funeral, harvest hse in recent weeks and in town after the shooting incident.

8. His respect of the people’s voice as the voice of God resonates well with people
of sound heart and mind

9. He peacefully & successfully retired Mugabe and ushered in a new dispensation, something even Tsvangirai, Chamisa, Mujuru, Mliswa, Biti and the masses of Zimbabwe celebrated on 18 Nov 2017 proving his revolutionary legacy is not a fluke

10. He has widely been accepted by the international community as a new leader offering hope for a new trajectory for the future of Zimbabwe 11. He is a man of his word.

Nothing about Zanu Pf did I mention, he is above party politics but a
nationalist and a father who is reforming Zanu Pf politics and showing
exemplary behaviour to political leaders in their politgicking. ED is the man. He is teaching people to do away with hate speach including hate slogans. *No more pasi neMDC or pasi nangana.*He deserves to be given a full term to completely stabilise Zimbabwe economically, politically and socially.

12. There is no credible and non-experimental viable option besides ED at the moment amongst those speculated to contest him.

13. Those speculated to contest ED have nothing on offer that I am aware of except to ride on Tsvangirai’s legacy or to disembark on Mugabe’s legacy. This is my choice as a Zimbabwean with national interests at heart and as a voter.

I have at some point criticised Robert Mugabe and Grace Mugabe and now I criticise
Chamisa thuggery and I have criticized Biti and Ncube and Mangoma
and Mai Mujuru for politics of disunity that did not serve the interests
of Zimbabwe to remove the dictatorship of Mugabe. ED has shown how we can tolerate each other in this new dispensation and how all we can express our wishes and
hope without being labelled. The president is not a ZANU Pf president
or mdc president but national president. By voting ED you are voting
for your nation’s president not mdc president.

Oppah Muchinguri Sells Off 200 Elephants – HWANGE REPORT

  • “We are willing to export more in the years to come…”

  • $9 billion worth of ivory – Muchinguri

  • “We will not apologize to anyone,”

By Wildlife Correspondent| As she fires an entire board, confirmed last Thursday, the Minister Of Environment Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri has reportedly signed off another 200 of Zimbabwe’s precious elephants.

The report comes within days of Muchinguri firing the entire board of directors of the National Parks and Wildlife. Minister Muchinguri last Thursday said that she was sacking the whole board of directors for assuming her executive powers.

The latest report narrates that Minister Muchinguri has allegedly sold off 200 elephants to foreign buyer.

While efforts by ZimEye.com to contact the minister for a comment were fruitless as her phone was not picked and neither her emails replied, Muchinguri is on record saying more of the country’s wildlife will be captured for China to as she claimed, give them a better and safer environment.

She said more animals will be exported in years to come. “We are happy that young African animals have been well accommodated here in China,” she said. “We are willing to export more in the years to come as it would help in the preservation of wild animals,” she said 3 years ago.

But Muchinguri has also said the animals would be sold off so to realise $9 billion worth of ivory. She 2 years ago told parliament her $9 billion worth of ivory, could turnaround the fortunes of the country.

Muchinguri said SADC was would lobby for the ban imposed by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, to be lifted. “We have 96 tonnes of ivory and if we sell it, we will realise about $9,1 billion,” she said.

She is also on record saying she will never apologise for selling off Zimbabwe’s elephants.

“We will not apologize to anyone,” Muchinguri told the state media in 2016. “Not even once because they are our elephants and our people live with a huge population of elephants and bear the trouble of interacting with them.”

In the past, Zimbabwe’s policy of exporting its wildlife to China has drawn criticism from conservationists, who note that there is a high demand for the ivory that can be taken from elephants’ tusks in China. In 2015, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) ruled that a deal to sell 24 animals to China was illegal, but it went ahead anyway.

While some reports said that the wild animals are used in circus-style performances in the park, Muchinguri-Kashiri told reporters that she had visited the park and it wasn’t so bad.

In late 2015, the international National Geographic media house reported that the elephants in China were being mistreated and were slipping into poor health.

Thokozani Khupe: “We’re In Politics Because We Want To Make Money” Video Hits Circulation Again

By Staff Reporter| Supporters of the MDC Acting President Nelson Chamisa have sent the below old footage into circulation. The video is of MDC Deputy President Thokozani Khupe which has gone into review days after the late MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s burial.

In the video recorded in England, Khupe says: “There is only one MP, there is only one counsellor and we cannot all be Presidents. Neither can you be counsellors. So we are all here so we create a conducive environment where those who want to do business, will do business and make money. I personally I love a better life. You know life is good man, but life can only be good when you have money in your pocket, because money speaks. We are all here because we want money. Without money we cannot go anywhere guys let’s be honest with each other, we are in politics because we want money. Once we have money we are able to send our children to school…”

Grace Mugabe Refuses To Pay Own Workers Tells Them Go To Mnangagwa

By Dorrothy Moyo| Former First Lady Grace Mugabe allegedly told her farm workers that she was untouchable and no one will force her to pay their outstanding wages.

She even told them to go to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Workers at Grace Mugabe’s Gwina Farm in Banket quoted by the weekly Standard say Grace visited the property last week together with her husband Robert Mugabe and told the 106 employees that she was not going to pay them their terminal benefits.

Robert Mugabe’s family reportedly owns over 14 farms in the country and late last year the new Minister Of Agriculture, Perrance Shiri said he was conducting an audit of Mugabe’s farms, amid indications they are set to lose some of the properties. “Minister Shiri has ordered, through our directors, that we compile a full list of the former first family’s farms and we are already doing it,” a source in the lands department said.

Meanwhile workers at the Gwina farm confirmed meeting the Mugabes with one Sarudzai Mutema, alleging that Grace was trying to intimidate the workers instead of paying them their benefits. “The former first lady Grace came here yesterday threatening us and telling us that she is not giving as our money even if we report the matter to Mnangagwa,” she said.

The report says Grace wanted to give them rice as payment for their labour.

Grace’s lawyer, Fungal Chimwamurombe has confirmed the meeting but said the workers were raising false allegations.

Duped By Beitbridge Company

Dear Editor

I am writing this letter in pain because of the rampant corruption and nepotism that we are encountering in our country. I am a young man from Beitbridge. In July 2017 we were told that a new cleaning company called (Sterile Hygiene) had been contracted to clean the Beit-bridge border post hence we should submit our CVs if we want jobs. We later realised to our surprise that the Beitbridge residence association ladies had already compiled a list of their members and relatives who are 02s meaning that their Identity numbers start with 02 as they were born in Beit-bridge. Despite this setback we just decided to leave our cvs with the manager of the company for the next opportunity.

On the 12th of February 2018 most of the people who left their cvs with the manager back in 2017 were called to come for work. We were then told to undergo the process of fingerprint vetting with the ZRP which collected a lot of cash on that day since a lot of people paid $5 for the process in the hope that we would get the jobs. As for me i had to borrow that $5. Unfortunately for us the ZANU PF Member of parliament for Beit-bridge West, Ms Mudau and the notorious Beitbridge Resident Association, appeared once again and hijacked the process with their own list of relatives and special people whom they thought deserved the jobs more than us. The company was threatened by these people and forced to employ them. I was heartbroken because I have not been working for years while I have a family to take care of. I even met another lady who was crying because she had been forced to leave her job at this company so as to create a vacancy for one of these people. To make matters worse she had not received her salary for 3 months before her dismissal. This kind of behaviour by the people in power won’t take us anywhere. Everyone must be accorded a fair opportunity to work regardless of political affiliation or who you know.

Thank you!

AFM Pastor Blocks Financial Audits For 15 Years – Court Papers

Asper Madziyire

The president of the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM), pastor Aspher Madziyire has been slapped with a lawsuit at the High Court.

Court papers read that Madziyire has for 15 years to date allegedly refused to allow the churches’ financial records to be audited.

Madziyire is being sued by AFM pastors Kefias Mujokeri and Paymore Murefu.

High Court judge Justice Happias Zhou has since set aside the ruling for this week.

The court application reads in part, “it has been 15 years since Madziyire took over as president and since then, no audit has ever been done despite the stipulations of our church constitution which say a detailed financial report should be produced every year.

“Many have since stopped demanding for the audit for fear of victimisation and this is why we resolved to do it the court way.”

LATEST- Mugabe Pictures (Yesterday) Bob Looking 60 Yrs Younger

Are these the blessings of early resignation?

Yesterday ZimEye.com revealed the below latest pictures of former President Robert Mugabe at his birthday party looking as people said, 60 years younger.

Many Zimbabweans exclaimed that Mugabe looks fresher and younger out of office. Mugabe’s looks as ZimEye reveals, come at contrast to what white suit prophets had predicted that he would be dead by the end of last year. PICTURES:

Jonathan Moyo’s Maths Requirement Removed

reversal… Amon Murwira

President Mnangagwa’s administration has removed former Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Jonathan Moyo’s O Level maths requirement for tertiary institutions.

Students will now be able to enrol without Ordinary Level Mathematics and English Language for certain courses, where they are deemed not necessary.

The new Minister Amon Murwira, said colleges and universities are now free to use their own discretion.

Murwira told the state media, “it remains the institution’s responsibility to revise entry requirements. As a ministry, we leave such decisions to the colleges. Our role is to give direction and not directives on academic matters. We leave academic boards to exercise their independence and rights.

“I might have been misconstrued when I talked about entry qualifications. I never said scrap Maths. Some tertiary institutions complained that some of the entry requirements were not relevant or matching some of the courses, and enrolment numbers were plummeting. I said if you feel a particular programme like Hotel and Catering or a purely Arts programme does not require Maths, why not revise that.

“Our policy is a policy of inclusive education, recognising that people have different talents. As a country, we should have people of different specialisations. We can’t all be engineers. We need journalists, teachers and a host of other professionals.

“We don’t want to see a student who deserves to be in college roaming the streets, no. Ways should be found to ensure that such a person gets a chance to be in college.”

President Mnangagwa’s 100 Days In Office, What The People Said

Below is a collage of what many people said while reviewing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s first 100 days in office:

Tsvangirai Taught Us A Lesson- Charamba

The late MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai nudged Zanu-PF’s centralised philosophy of national governance to that of an open democracy, a senior official has said.

Secretary for Media, Information and Broadcasting Services and Presidential spokesperson Mr George Charamba also said Mr Tsvangirai’s death was a great loss to the nation.

He was speaking to Zimpapers Television Network at Mr Tsvangirai’s burial in Humanikwa Village, Buhera, last week.

“Mr Tsvangirai’s death is great loss to Zimbabwe, not only in the sense of his political role, but also at a human level,” he said.

“I think one major lesson we are drawing from this is how in fact artificial politics is, and that beneath the superficies of politics, there is that underlying bond which connects us — one unto the rest— as Zimbabweans; and that is primary in terms of establishing and underpinning stability in a country.”

Mr Charamba said one thing which cannot be taken away from the MDC during Mr Tsvangirai era was making Zanu-PF recognise that individual rights were at the core of social advancement.
“There are those who fight for Independence and bring the nation to a certain stage.

‘‘Then there are others who bring a certain input by way of democratising that liberation project and you should not see that as alien; it is in fact part of repertoire of values that enables people to move forward.”

Mr Charamba was a nephew to Mr Tsvangirai, and The Sunday Mail also gathered that acting MDC-T president Advocate Nelson Chamisa is his son-in-law. In another interview at the funeral, leader of the National Super Alliance of Kenya Mr Raila Odinga said he was encouraged by political developments in Zimbabwe.

“Elections in Africa were becoming a mere ritual were there was an emergence of electoral autocracy and we are very encouraged by the obtaining political developments in Zimbabwe which are seeking to level the political playing field,” he said.

Also present at the burial were Zanu-PF national chair Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, members of the diplomatic community and representatives of various political parties. Sunday Mail

Grace Mugabe Dirty Hands

A Lebanese businessman who is locked in a $1,3 million diamond ring wrangle with former first lady Grace Mugabe has filed opposing papers in the High Court, claiming the ex-Zanu PF women’s league secretary was approaching the courts with dirty hands.

The Daily News can report that the tycoon, Jamal Joseph Hamed, wants the court to dismiss Grace’s case, alleging her proxies were still holding on to his premises despite an eviction order issued by High Court judge, Justice Clement Phiri, on December 21, 2016.

According to summons issued by the former first lady, sometime in April 2015 Grace contracted Hamed, who at the time was a renowned diamond dealer, to provide her with a unique diamond ring for her wedding anniversary celebrations at a cost of $1 350 000.

Grace alleges that Hamed became evasive soon after payment and could not be located for quite some time, prompting her to suspect that she had been duped by the businessman.
Upon realising the lengthy delay, she demanded full refund of her purchase price.

It is being alleged that instead of refunding the money, Hamed tendered a diamond ring worth $30 000, which the former first lady declined because it was “an inferior ring”.

Thereafter, it is alleged that Hamed agreed to the full refund but only paid $120 000, forcing Grace to seek redress from the courts.

Grace is demanding $1 230 000 from Ahmed, including interest calculated from April 2015.

She is also seeking to transfer Hamed’s immovable properties into her name.

Grace has thus sought the court’s permission to execute shares in three companies linked to the Lebanese, namely Thatchfree Investments (Private) Limited, Zulaf Investments (Private) Limited and Super Earth Properties (Private) Limited.

Hamed is, however, fighting back.
In his High Court papers responding to Grace’s claim, the businessman argues that the former first lady has approached the courts with dirty hands in that her agents, who include the police, “took the law into their own hands and unlawfully occupied properties in which the defendant has an interest without any form of due process.”

He further argues that Grace and her proxies remain in unlawful occupation of the properties in which he has an interest.

“Until she vacates the said properties, the court should decline to hear the plaintiff on the basis of hers and her agent’s unlawful behaviour,” the court heard.

Hamed further claims that the money was not paid into his personal account, but into one of his companies.

“Defendant denies that the diamond tendered to the plaintiff was ‘worth’ $30 000, denies that the plaintiff in fact saw and valued the diamond, denies that the plaintiff at the same time claimed the diamond was of inferior quality or lower value and plaintiff is put to the strict proof of her claims,” he said, adding that Grace had enlisted the services of other people of persuade him to release the money through crude threats, despite the two having agreed on the mode of payment.

“Defendant pleads that the plaintiff declined the proposed mode of refund and instead unleashed a reign of terror on the defendant who was bombarded with crude abusive messages and phone calls directly and by her agents.

“Upon the plaintiff declining the proposed refund method, Diamond Village continued to tender the diamond to the plaintiff who thereafter caused her son Russell Goreraza, Kennedy Fero and other agents who declined to identify themselves to occupy five immovable properties connected to the defendant, including properties registered in the names of (other) entities…,which unlawful occupations remain to date,” Hamed said.

He further said that there is no lawful reason for the company to refund since the contract between the two still subsists.

Hamed also said the occupation of his properties has resulted in him suffering damages, adding that Grace is seeking to sanitise her actions through a court process.
The matter is still pending before the High Court.

This is not the first time Grace has been involved in a controversial business deal.
In 2011, she was caught in a spat over a $1 million truck deal with South African businessman Ping Sung Hsieh. Daily News

Khupe, Mwonzora Push For Chamisa Arrest

A faction vying for control of the MDC-T says it could soon make a police report implicating Advocate Nelson Chamisa in the violence that occurred at the burial of the opposition party’s president, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, in Buhera last week.

Adv Chamisa is one of three party deputy presidents, along with Dr Thokozani Khupe and Engineer Elias Mudzuri, positioning themselves to succeed Mr Tsvangirai.

Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga last week said law enforcement agents were investigating the matter, and spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said details on progress on this front would be available in coming days.

Sources opposed to Adv Chamisa’s ascendance said they were putitng together a dossier on Adv Chamisa’s alleged complicity in the Buhera violence that saw some youths trying to burn Dr Khupe, party secretary-general Mr Douglas Mwonzora and organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe alive.

An anti-Chamisa official who is high up in the party hierarchy said: “Chamisa’s hunger for power is amazing. He could not wait for our president to be buried. But this time, we are going to find a solution to deal with him that may catch him by surprise.

“You could soon see him being called by the police to explain what happened in Buhera. The matter cannot simply end like this and yet some hired thugs tried to burn down a house in which three very senior party officials had retreated to when faced with assault.”

Another official claimed Adv Chamisa sponsored hooligans to intimidate his opponents at the burial.
“There is a lot going on and many people are not happy with the manner that he is acting. He is now appearing like a dictator. At public functions, he does not allow anyone else to speak because he wants all the glory to be accorded to him.”

Yesterday, Adv Chamisa dismissed the allegations.
“Those are petty issues,” he said. “I don’t comment on those issues. Get in touch with (director of communications in the MDC-T president’s office) Luke (Tamborinyoka) or (MDC-T secretary for security) Giles Mutsekwa.”

Both could not be reached for comment. At the burial, a visibly angry Mr Mwonzora publicly confronted Adv Chamisa and appeared to make threatening gestures at him; while Dr Khupe – who was not accorded VIP status when things calmed down somewhat – refused to greet Adv Chamisa when he extended his hand to her.

Yesterday Mr Mwonzora said of developments in the party: “I will speak at the right time.”
An official said Dr Khupe and Mr Mwonzora also wanted to know what role deputy organising secretary Mr Amos Chibaya, deputy treasurer-general Mr Charlton Hwende, and one other official who is a prominent member of a pro-Chamisa group calling itself the Vanguard, allegedly played in the violence.

Mr Chibaya told The Sunday Mail: “As you saw in Buhera, I was too busy to be involved with those youths. I was on stage, and the day before I did not interact with the youths because I arrived in Buhera very late and was not in touch with them. I only know about the violence from the videos and the reports that I have seen.”

Mr Hwende responded to the allegations thus: “First and foremost, I’m not a violent person, that is why as part of the leadership we have condemned the violence. By next week everyone will know the full story of what transpired after the team completes investigations.

“As a party we actually encourage the victims to approach the police and they are free to do so and point out the culprits if they so wish.”

Meanwhile, sources said Eng Mudzuri – despite attending an MDC-T Standing Committee meeting on Friday that appeared to endorse Adv Chamisa’s leadership – still wanted the party to hold a congress to elect a president ahead of the 2018 harmonised elections.

The source also said as a last resort, Eng Mudzuri was prepared to let Adv Chamisa stand in the
Presidential race knowing that he would “most likely lose”, after which he would challenge him at a congress and assume leadership of the party.

Yesterday, Eng Mudzuri’s phone was not reachable but sources close to him said: “His attendance at the meeting was not by any means an endorsement of Chamisa. He still wants the extraordinary congress to be held.” -state media

Obert Gutu Bites On Own Tongue, Claims “I Never Resigned”

By Paul Nyathi |MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu who was reported to have quit the party last week after a sensational tweet has made a shocking about turn claiming that he never resigned from the party and his position after all.

Speaking in a Voice Of America run Studio 7 interview on Saturday, Gutu said that media houses failed to understand a Twitter message he published which they presumed meant he was resigning.

“My Tweet was very clear and needed no explanations. I wonder how media houses failed to understand it and make it sound like I was resigning,” said Gutu.

He insisted that he is still the MDC-T spokesperson, even though he was absent at the last party press briefing coordinated by vocal politician Tabitha Khumalo his deputy.

Gutu further reiterated that he was going ahead with his plans to contest the Harare East Constituency seat against the MDC Alliance coalition agreement.

“I am going ahead with my plans to contest the constituency and we are on the ground as we speak,” he said.

The MDC Alliance agreed that the constituency was to be reserved for coalition partner Tendai Biti leader of the People’s Democratic Party.

CHAMISA LEAD: Africa Needs Young, Vibrant Leaders, Says Graca Machel

Africa’s youth and women need to stand up and take charge as the continent’s new leaders.

That was the message delivered by former first lady Graca Machel in Johannesburg on Saturday‚ at the African Leadership Academy (ALA).

“Africa does not need leaders who are 75 or 65 years old. We need leaders who are young‚ vibrant‚ innovative and who the continent’s youth can relate to.”

Machel‚ speaking at the 10-year celebration of ALA‚ called on Africa’s emerging young leaders to remain committed to the cause for the development of Africa.

The celebrations saw some of Africa’s brightest academic and economic minds discussing ways of uplifting the continent‚ through improved knowledge-based education systems‚ entrepreneurship development and human rights‚ healthcare and leadership programmes.

Machel‚ the widow of late president Nelson Mandela‚ said leadership was about integrity and values and making the choice to lead.

Our youth must grasp the opportunity to lead. You must continuously check yourself to see that you are still committed to your values which make you want to be a leader.”

She said the majority of those living in Africa were young people.

“Our continent has a large youth population‚ who are looking for leaders who they can relate to‚ who they believe will be honourable and committed‚ especially to public service.

“Our young leaders need to stand up and be counted. They need to embrace the knowledge of their elders‚ stand on their shoulders‚ and take up the challenge of leadership.

“The road will be long‚ it will be difficult‚ but they must have the courage to make the choices and sacrifices needed to serve.”

She called on the youth to redefine Africa’s identity.

“It can no longer be ‘I’. That is not what leadership or Africa is about. Our continent is about its people‚ the ‘we’‚ the collective.

The road will be long‚ it will be difficult‚ but they must have the courage to make the choices and sacrifices needed to serve.
“Women and youth have a major role to play in this redefining and development of our continent.”

The problems around the role the youth and women had to play in leading Africa‚ said Machel‚ had to be solved today.

“We cannot let what many see as the problems of the future remain the problems for the future. We have to resolve them today.

“We need our women‚ our mothers‚ our sisters to be treated with dignity and respect they deserve‚ regardless of their age.

“For far too long‚ women have simply been seen as ‘she’ and inferior. Even with my age and the positions I have held‚ I have experienced this.”

Machel called on the youth to find ways to cross the bridge where women were no longer seen as inferior‚ but were recognised for their brilliance and their capacity‚ “where they are treated for the respect and dignity which they deserve and where they are treated as human”.

She said Africa’s youth needed to connect with the continent’s roots so that when they become global leaders they could still contribute to the development of Africa.

Lara Rabiu‚ ALA chief financial officer‚ said the event would lay the foundation for Africa’s future leadership.

“The people here are builders of a thriving Africa. It is now time for our youth to take action and ownership of their future roles in our continent through leadership positions.”- Times Live

Mwonzora Says Sorry To Gogo Tsvangirai

By Paul Nyathi | Repentant MDC-T Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora has heartily apologised on behalf of his party to the mother of the late former party President Morgan Tsvangirai for all the public insults and abuse she suffered.

Speaking at a memorial service held for Tsvangirai at Sapes Trust on Saturday, Mwonzora said that the party ran short in culture during the period of mourning Tsvangirai.

“We want to apologise for the insults hurled at Morgan Tsvangirai’s mother. Nothing can be more sadistic,” said Mwonzora.

“I want to say Gogo we are very sorry. We fall short on culture in terms of leadership selection. We fall short when something inconvenient comes your way.”

The predominantly always sober former parliamentarian who is also a prominent legal practitioner extended wide ranging apologies to all people who were affected by the events in the party in the last week.

“We want to apologise for breaking the hearts of many Zimbabweans who see hope in the MDC,” he said.

“We want to apologise for the assaults on members of the public perpetrated by some youths in our name.

“I want to apologise to a police officer who was assaulted by a plate and left with a gush on her head.

“I want to say sorry to government officials who were insulted at the funeral.”

Mwonzora went further to be the first to apologise to under fire Deputy President Thokozani Khuphe for the harassment, abuse and assault she was subjected to by some party members.

“I want to apologise for the treat, sexist and tribal assaults on Madame Thokozani Khupe. I was not harmed and if I was I think I deserved it but I know Khupe does not deserve such treatment and for this we are sorry.”

“My Husband Is A Gold Digger”, Screams Wife

A married Victoria Falls woman accused of having an extra marital affair by her husband, has defended her lover claiming that her husband is a gold digger who wants to extort money from other men.

Mrs Sithembile Ncube (41) a council worker who resides in Chinotimba suburb told the court that this is not the first time that her husband Mr Stanford Ncube has accused her of having love affairs with other men.

She said he once accused her of being in love with former Victoria Falls Chamber Secretary Mr Philip Ndlovu that ended in court in 2014.

Mr Ncube had disowned his child saying his wife had been impregnated by Mr Ndlovu.

The case resulted in Mr Ndlovu suing Mr Ncube for $10 000 after a DNA test proved that the former chamber secretary was not the father of the child.

Now Mr Ncube has dragged another man Mr John Matumbura to the Victoria Falls Civil Court demanding $1 000 saying he was having an affair with his wife.

Mr Ncube told the court that he wanted Mr Matumbura, a local businessman to compensate him for destroying his marriage.

The couple is living separately and Mrs Ncube has since filed for divorce.

She denied having an affair with Mr Matumbura.

“Stanford only wants money from the defendant. He once accused Philip Ndlovu of being the father of one of our children and lost the case in court.

Paternity tests were done and proved that Mr Ndlovu was not the father. Mr Ndlovu sued him and he was ordered to pay him $10 000 damages,” said Mrs Ncube.

She said her husband was trying to get money from Mr Matumbura by accusing him of being her boyfriend.

Mrs Ncube told the court that her husband always tells her that two of their three children are not his.

An adamant Mr Ncube told the magistrate Ms Rangarirai Gakanje that Mr Matumbura was behind their separation.

He told the court that his wife and Mr Matumbura admitted that they were having an affair and produced an admission of guilty statement made by the two lovebirds at the police station.

Mr Matumbura, who denied the accusations, is being represented by Mr Givemore Mvhiringi.

The case will continue on March 7.  – state media

Mnangagwa Sued

The three-year-old Samambwa chieftainship wrangle has taken a new twist with David Samambwa taking President Emmerson Mnangagwa to court challenging the instalment of his rival, Samuel Samambwa, as substantive traditional leader of the area.

David, who is claiming the right to the chieftainship on the basis that he was older than the incumbent, also cited Local Government minister July Moyo and registrar-general Tobaiwa Mudede, as co-defendants in the application.

Through his lawyer Obert Gutu, David said the chieftainship should be handed to him based on official birth records kept at Mudede’s office.

During a meeting held on September 16 in 2015, then Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere endorsed the appointment of David as heir apparent based on the strength of documents provided, but the matter was affected by Zanu PF factional fights, resulting in Samuel’s appointment, instead.

David said former President Robert Mugabe had appointed him chief, but he was shocked to learn that on taking over, Mnangagwa overturned his appointment.

“Mugabe, who occupied the Office of President at the time, duly appointed me as substantive Chief Samambwa on October 20, 2016. My purported removal from office of substantive Chief Samambwa on December 12 last year by Mnangagwa, is null and void,” submitted David.

David said because Mugabe had appointed him, Mnangagwa could not change that appointment because it was done constitutionally.

“The President of this nation, despite the change of person now occupying that office cannot have two bites of the cherry by purporting to exercise a constitutional power which was fully and effectually exercised on October 20, 2016 by his predecessor,” David submitted.- Newsday

Mudzuri Joins Team Chamisa

MDC-T interim president Nelson Chamisa’s political star received a major boost yesterday after the party’s district executives endorsed him as the opposition party’s presidential candidate, following the death of party founder, Morgan Tsvangirai, last week.

The decision came amid reports that MDC-T vice-president Elias Mudzuri had thrown his weight behind Chamisa, leaving Thokozani Khupe who was also jostling for the post, in the wilderness.

Khupe insists that she is the bona fide candidate to succeed Tsvangirai, although Chamisa now has an upper hand following another endorsement by the party’s national council last week.

Deputy party spokesperson, Thabitha Khumalo, told NewsDay Weekender that yesterday’s consultative meeting attended by 639 delegates from 210 party districts, dismissed Khupe’s call for an extra-ordinary congress to choose Tsvangirai’s successor.

“639 delegates from our 210 party districts have endorsed acting president Nelson Chamisa as the presidential candidate. They said it doesn’t make sense to go for a congress as we are now preparing for elections,” Khumalo said.

“The districts said they have embraced the national council’s resolution and they want that resolution to be respected by the leadership. We are not going to have an extra-ordinary congress.”

Earlier on, Chamisa had told journalists that the consultative meeting was meant to finalise the succession issue and “eliminate noise in the cockpit”.

“As regards the issue of the party in terms of its unity and hygiene, this is part of what we are doing to make sure that the party is clear so that we remove all the noise in the cockpit and that people are clear as we prepare for elections and they are clear in winning the elections,” Chamisa said.

The consultative meeting was attended by the majority of standing committee members with the exception of Khupe, organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe, party chairman Lovemore Moyo and spokesperson Obert Gutu.

During the Press briefing, Chamisa frequently consulted Mudzuri in a gesture widely interpreted to confirm reports that the two had patched up their differences and pledged to work together.

“What we have done is perfectly constitutional. What we have done is 100% legal,” Chamisa said. He added that he would soon reach out to Khupe, so that they iron out their differences.

“Of course, we appreciate that our vice-president Thokozani Khupe, has not been attending meetings for the past eight months because of issues around the (MDC) Alliance with our president the late Morgan Tsvangirai,” he said.

“We appreciate her circumstances, she has not understood the party processes that have been instituted and the position that the party has taken.”

MDC-T secretary for security Giles Mutsekwa said his department had launched its own investigations into the attack on Khupe and two other senior party officials during Tsvangirai’s burial in Buhera on Tuesday.

He said findings of the probe would be made public within the next seven days.

Chamisa also apologised for the violence, saying they will make everyone involved accountable for their actions.

“We are in the process of making sure that any person who is in the party structures who has been involved in this debacle is going to be fully accountable to the party and will not be part of this great family. We do not want malcontents in our midst,” he said.

He said the leader of the MDC Alliance will come from the MDC-T, further confirming his candidature ahead of the upcoming elections where he will square up with Zanu PF’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Joice Mujuru of the People’s Rainbow Coalition.

Chamisa said following the death of Tsvangirai, the party will not change its name MDC-T, as it was used to distinguish them from the rest.- Newsday

Raila Odinga On Sikhala Radical Politics

Job Sikhala | “He asked why I am no longer as radical and vicious as I used to be. He said he used to read about me almost frequently in Kenya about my political activism and the troubles I faced in this country. My response was very clear, that I have joined a profession that has disciplined my conduct. And that I am not a James Orengo of Zimbabwe because the profession here requires absolute discipline.

We laughed over our radical views of the world as we both named our kids after Fidel Castro.”

Mugabe Joins Chamisa In The Trenches

Farai Maguwu | Human Rights and pro democracy activist Robert Gabriel Mugabe has raised a red flag on the freeness and fairness of the approaching 2018 elections in Zimbabwe. Activist Mugabe made the remarks whist receiving the African Union Commission (AU) chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat and his delegation at his ‘blue roof’ mansion in Harare this week.

Mugabe said the involvement of the military in civilian affairs makes the possibility of free and fair elections impossible: “Now you want to know whether elections will be free and fair. Of course, I don’t think so. How can they be free and fair when the military is running everything?”, said Mugabe who ruled the Southern African nation with an iron fist for 37 years. Mugabe pleaded with the African Union to help restore democracy and human rights in his country.

“You need to assist us to bring this country to normalcy and democracy. There is need for people’s rights to be restored and normal life to continue. Now there is no freedom of expression. If you disagree with them, then you must die”, he pleaded.

Small House Drags Chihuri To Court

Retired Commissioner General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Augustine Chihuri is embroiled in a messy maintenance wrangle.

In court documents, Sithulisiwe Mthimkhulu based in Bulawayo laid bare her intimate and steamy escapades with her former boss which led to the birth of an eight-year-old girl who is  in Grade Four.

Details of Rtd Comm Gen Chihuri’s extraordinary busy love life are contained in a maintenance suit in which Mthimkhulu filed at the Bulawayo Maintenance Court under case Number 191 /18  while demanding a lumpsum maintenance of US$ 272 242 from the former police boss for the upkeep of  his child.

The matter is set to be heard on 26 February.

In her summons Mthimkhulu revealed that the retired police  boss worked for nearly 37 years as a commissioner-general of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and earning over $4 500 per month hence he would be able from his terminal benefits to pay or meet her lumpsum claim of US$272 242.

She poured her heart out indicating that the former police boss was using his position to victimise and subject her to all sorts of humiliation and embarrassment whenever she visited or contacted him over the upkeep of the child.

“I am the applicant in this matter and the information contained herein is within my personal knowledge and belief.

Where I state issues of law, it will be at the advice on my legal practitioners of record and whose advice I accept.

“Respondent Augustine Chihuri was the commissioner-General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police since 1981, while I was his subordinate. He has since retired but I am still in the force. Respondent and I have a child together born on 2 July 2009. When it was time for us to go and get the child’s certificate, the respondent refused. I ended up doing it all on my own and that is why the child bears my surname and not his.

‘Over the years and ever since I was pregnant, the respondent has been neglecting to take care of his daughter.

Whenever I needed money I had to call him and, even then he would not do anything. I would then have to go to his offices to look for him. He would then use his position to victimise and subject me to all sorts of humiliation and embarrassment.

“He would, after he has said all that is in his mind and treating me as he so desired, give me some of the money. If I did not ask, he would keep quiet.  Calling him and going to his office almost every month to beg for money, be victimised and humiliated became part of my routine,” reads her summons in part.

According to Mthimkhulu when she initially decided to take the matter to court  Chihuri pleaded with her that they should go for an out of court settlement and she agreed.

“I agreed as I fully understood his reasons for doing so. He was my boss and also the Commissioner-General of the entire police force in Zimbabwe. He had engaged some legal practitioners in Harare to assist him and I could not, in those circumstances, doubt his sincerity in seeking to have the issue resolved amicably, “she revealed.

Mthimkhulu claimed fearing that she was going to take the legal route, Rtd Comm Gen Chihuri in May last year agreed that he  would pay US$650 monthly being maintenance  for the child, US$349 monthly for medical aid, US$3 655 termly, being school and boarding fees for the child. He also agreed to buy all school uniforms and school accessories and expenses as well as school trips.

Rtd Comm Gen Chihuri reportedly paid until October before he stopped communicating with his alleged mistress- Mthimkhulu.

“In November 2017 I waited and no maintenance was deposited to my account. December 2017 came and went by with nothing being paid for the child and it was the same story in January 2018. I then started getting worried.

“Respondent still could not be reached on his cellphones. The child needed uniforms, clothes, food and also to have her medical aid and school fees paid. Respondent was not communicating with me-no email, no phone and no text.

“I then decided to consult my legal practitioners of record. A letter was drafted and sent to respondent’s Harare residence via courier marked ‘private and confidential’’. I believed that he deserved his privacy one way or the other.

“To my surprise, the security guards had been instructed not to entertain anyone or receive anything. The letter was returned to my legal practitioners and they have it on file with the relevant endorsement on why it was not delivered.

“After consulting further with my legal practitioners, I then advised them to contact the legal practitioner who assisted the respondent in May 2017 leading to our out of court settlement. I am advised by my legal practitioners, which advice I accept, that after some telephone discussions, the legal practitioner concerned requested that my letter be e-mailed to him and he would try his best locate the respondent.

“The letter was emailed on the 19th of January 2018. The respondent later and through the same legal practitioner responded with proof of payment of fees, medical aid and maintenance which payments had not been communicated to me,” Mthimkhulu further claimed in her summons.

She said it became clear to her that the father of her child didn’t want to communicate with her as he was reportedly avoiding her calls.

“As I stated earlier on, respondent is now retired and will obviously receive a package. He worked for nearly 37 years as a commissioner-general of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and earning over $4 500. He will no longer be getting any monthly salary from which he was and would pay for the child.

“There is no salary that, when he fails to pay, stop order can be effected. It is now difficult if not impossible to get hold of him. I used to access him through his office. He no longer has one which I know of. Previously I would walk in and discuss matters affecting our child despite all the victimisation. Should I need anything for the child, given the circumstances as outlined above, the child will be most affected. It will, therefore, be in the best interests of the child if respondent is ordered to pay me money enough to sustain the child until she turns the age of 18 years or become self-supporting.

“Currently, the child is doing Grade Four. She has three years and two terms to finish primary school. She will then have six years to complete secondary school. This means she will need to have her medical aid covered and using current rates, it means at $369 per month. This makes up a total of US$43 542.

“She will need maintenance and at current rates if prices do not spiral out of control she will need US$76 700, ie calculated at us4 650 per month. Her uniforms and school accessories at current rates will be US$23 600 for the next nine years.

“School and boarding fees are currently at US$ 3 655. They will obviously go up when it comes to high school.

However, using these rates, she will need US$105 885 until she finishes her Upper Sixth Form. University fees at approximately US$6 000 per year, over four years and to cover all her other accessories at university will total US$ 24 000.

“As the child grows, being a girl, her needs will increase. I will not be able to choose clothes for her. She will be having her own choices and preferences. She will need a cell phone and other gadgets that are costly. She is now used to a certain standard of life that respondent has introduced her to.

“She is now accustomed to it. The above total of US$ 272 242 is just but the minimum. I believe it will be fair to the respondent and in the best interest of the child if the respondent is ordered to pay a lump sum of  US$ 272 242. I believe this amount will enable the child to continue enjoying the standard of life he introduced her to and is used to”.

She said the respondent agreed to pay the money without any coercion and he was the one who insisted that his child should be on such an ‘expensive” medical aid and should go to a boarding school.

“I respected and agreed to that. He was well meaning and being responsible as a father. I will be able to also take care of her other needs and with contribution from the respondent be able to cater for the child.

“I will have been saved from chasing after the respondent.  He is well able, from terminal benefits and as someone with a number of immovable assets, to pay this money. The child is in need of maintenance and the claim is not avoidable,” declared Mthimkhulu. B Metro

JUNTA LATEST: G-40 Coup And The Constitutionality Of The Army Action

Dr Masimba Mazava | For Zimbabwe to achieve stability, there was need to be a return to constitutionality. Sanity had escaped the political landscape. The operation restore legacy can not be complete without order and a conclusion of presidential elections.
On 15th November 2017 the people of Zimbabwe and the international community were surprised by a coup d’état, otherwise known as an operation to restore legacy. However, before that there had been a coup since the country fired the Vice president Joyce Mujuru.

A group known as the G40 led by the clever but not wise professor had taken over the party and the country. To make their coup legitimate they had to make the then president believe that he was still in power. They realised his popularity and indeed exploited it. They have to put the first lady in their bag and they have to use her to achieve their goals. The idea was well strategised such that when people in each and every province protest agains the G40 the voices of the people were ignored.

Ten provinces called for NPC Be fired but the first lady overturned the majority vote. All those who took part in the push for restoring order in the party were fired.

There was indeed a coup with no soldier involved. The biggest problem was that this went beyond party politics. The first lady became the judge, the police, the court, the mother, all in one. While ZANU PF has become accustomed to violence and tragic events this one led by the first lady was the lowest point of all. Unfortunately the first lady was being used and too much power she got was used to elbow out the perceived enemies. It came to an extent where the nation was told that vice presidents took notes from the first lady.

The country was turned to a personal property and every one was an employee of the husband of the first lady. and the firing of another vice president and other high state officials, including several chiefs of staff of the armed forces) no one was prepared for this event. The country was a few months away from the presidential elections set for 2018.
Among diverse explanations, It should be good to distinguish between those given by the instigators of the coup, and those advanced by those couped. Among the latter, there is consensus that there are multiple causes, some with deep historical roots. From a holistic perspective concerned with the deeper causes of a political unrest prevalent in society, The army had to come in firstly having been concerned with the immediate motivations, while the second refers to older and more structural causes. Although they are of different nature, function, and range, the factors that explain the coup cannot be understood separately, as they are different links on the same chain.
In terms of the immediate causes, it is important to recognize the deterioration of relations between the executive and the military elite. The deterioration can be traced to public castigation of the military at rallies. Accusing the army of wanting to bomb the Gushungo dairy. With all their ammunition the soldiers were accused of wanting to use petrol bombs to bomb the dairy. The first lady was made to believe that her life was in danger and the CIO was ordered to beef up her security. She now had security as strong as that of the president. In actual fact she was the president. This signified the take over of the state.
The first lady got unconstitutional powers to fire executive. You cross her path you are gone. The country was put where the G40 wanted it.

Great enmity between the army and other security services was made very wide. Security officers were now reporting to the minister of Higher Education and to the first lady. The governance system was a big joke. The president’s age was not helping and the country resembled a dogs dinner table.
The mission to restore order was instigated.
This mission was created aiming at stabilization, peace, and support for reforms in security and defense sectors. The hotly discussed ‘special’ relationship between the party and the army. the principle of making a peacekeeping and stabilization force in the country became forcing power which led the international community to consider this as a stabilisation process. Therefore the establishment the restore legacy was rooted in the will of the international states.
Though these forces were established legally, given the hesitation expressed by some leaders as to the adequacy, correctness, and opportunity of this decision, many have denounced Mugabe and those surrounding him for mismanagement. Along with allegations that the country was now under the few none combatant egoistic thugs. They have taken full advantage of first lady instability.
The country has been engaged in a unprecedented chaos. .
There were allegations that The G40 has committed (or allowed others to commit) crimes such as the beatings and disappearances of prominent political and military figures, expulsions from the party became the norm. The party constitution was trampled and the national constitution was thrown out through the window.
Still others allege rampant clientalism and nepotism in public administration, and party politics. Together these allegations have fanned the flames of discontentment, not only within the military but also among the political class– even among personalities from the same political establishment. The decline in relations between the government and military elite reached its lowest point when certain sectors of the same elite began to feel uncomfortable with the presence of then first lady and her influence she has over elected members. the heart of discord appeared to be the fact that such a presence voted to fail, ‘a priori’, any attempt to change the constitutional order or advance any acts contrary to the normal functioning of institutions. To add to the tension, the center of certain political and military circles has developed a certain paranoia – a mental process highly influenced by anxiety and fear, with practical consequences resulting in efforts to prevent ED from acceding to the presidency. The same anxiety has allowed the military elite to believe there has been a conspiracy on the part of the President against military leaders and all war veterans.
This process deteriorated in part because of the reasons analyzed above, but also because of the deliberate effort to instrumentalize ethnic identity in favor of the petty interests of one group, which can only lead to nonsensical accusations and irrational situations. The strong statements of the of The first lady not only reflects this way of thinking, but also reveals a desire to create a big gap between the military elite and a part of the political elite. This has fuelled tensions and all trust between each other was eroded.
Beyond this, there are three other reasons that may explain the coup as the culmination of a situation of instability and the deterioration of the conditions under which state power is exercised. The first arose in the mismanagement of the resources from the national liberation struggle to the construction of a modern state. The polices and measures implemented by the powers was not likely to ensure a clear separation between civil and military affairs or permit the military contingent from the national liberation struggle to be transformed into a truly republican armed force. At the same time, for many years political life and the management of public services were dominated by the paradigm of the single-party state existing in a multiparty democracy.
The take over of state apparatus by the G40 was opposed by elements that once belonged to the military wing of the liberation struggle but have been loyal to the first lady. After liberation, the party continued to be seen as a kind of a guide with ability to act widely despite emancipation. On their side, the armed forces were more committed to the ideology and interests of the party than to the norms and rules that politics must rule the gun. To them the gun was to be respected together with its handlers. This resulted in a somewhat incestuous relationship between the political and military elite – a tendency that was reinforced during the mandate of Mugabe. It has since become one of the cornerstones in the relationship between civilian and military leaders.
Some analysts have focused more specifically on the breakdown of the hierarchical order and the political turmoil caused by the state of the party. This poisoned legacy is certainly not unfamiliar to the politico-military situation that preceded the 2017 coup. Who does not remember something funny about the rallies. Every person would know that rallies became battle grounds. The only problem was one person suffered the sharp edge of the other.

The behaviour was un African and it turned the hearts of many against the first lady. Some even doubted her sanity. Her handlers missed the point.

Indeed, the strong presence of the state party has constricted the space that could be filled by a civil society (which could serve as a counterweight to the excesses of a state party that became hegemonic.)
The second structural reason has to do with the mismanagement of crises and conflicts (violent or not) that have periodically developed in the political scene involving on one side politicians properly speaking, and on the other, politicians who were aligned with the military and not allowed to talk.
This eventually undermined the foundations of leadership at the height of the challenges facing ZANU PF. The heart of the crisis was the deposition of ED. under the pretext that the first had acted in a ‘deviant’ and ‘reprehensible’ manner. Whether or not these allegations are true, we should ask why it is permissible for a Party to fire without following procedure. in a state of law that is guided by the regular functioning of institutions, and in which military power is subordinated to a civil power, the lawlessness demanded the army to stand up and restore order b
With this act, a dangerous and irreparable precedent was set; in the very center of the armed forces, scrupulous respect for hierarchy was abandoned, along with the knowledge that the military is subordinated to political stakeholders. Acts like this certainly serve to explain the behavior of soldiers that subvert not only the military hierarchy but also undermine the rule of law.
Another explanation for the army involvement has to do with the degeneration of the state apparatus, and the state itself. It is common knowledge that the embryo of the modern state, initially forged in the first years following independence, has suffered weakness without precedent in the last few years, especially under the first lady being handled by Jonathan Moyo. The situation resembles that of a country in which neither the law or hierarchies are respected – the combination that puts things near, if not identical to that of failed state.
That is why many voices claiming to reestablish the state are premised on strengthening national unity, on reinventing the political system, and on building a functional and independent justice.
For this coup to happen exactly when the country was preparing for the presidential elections is, at least, an ‘unhappy’ coincidence. It was clear from the beginning that the electoral process itself would be disrupted.
For the country to find the path to stability again, the exit from the crisis must include a return to constitutional order.
Everything has been done both nationally and internationally to bring the military to reason. The process of building lasting peace, democracy, and the rule of law is incompatible with any compromise to those that would usurp power through a coup. It is essential that the international community does not turn its back on Zimbabwe. We must see the operation as an opportunity to ensure that Zimbabwe returns to stability and a civil peace that is sustainable.
The elections are coming soon and it is not the army calling shorts. It is the Zimbabweans doing the same.
Zimbabwe was captured already before the army took over. The army wrestled the power from those who had taken it from the constitutional system which was in place.

As to whom did they give after the restoration of order is a question which is already known. The majority party had the mandate to finish their term. So they appointed an interim president who was later confirmed at congress.
That president became the president of the country as he was reinstated and available in the country. At that time the other vice president Comrade Mphoko had ran away to Botswana. There was no need to create a power vacuum. So Mnangagwa was duly sworn in as the president of the country.
Saying now that the ascendance was unlawful is in itself mischievous.

The army has a constitutional right to maintain peace and order in the country. Their duty is to the country and indeed they stood their constitutional ground.
Even though they targeted the criminals surrounding the president it was not the duty of the army to replace Mugabe with ED.
If the truth be said Mugabe resigned when the MDC populace in towns led by Chamisa marched in to state House. It was the army who stopped and addressed them. The rural populace did not take part. So for MDC to say the current government is illegitimate it is cheap politicking.
Mnangagwa is not in the office by force. The procedure was constitutional and very lawful.

The former president had been removed by the G40 and he believed he was working with them. People took advantage of him and things fell apart.

Now it is not correct to say that the country was taken by force. The decision to make Chiwenga a Vice president soon after the operation was not a wrong move. It is indeed an unwise move but very legal. By the time of his appointment Chiwenga was not a soldier he had retired. So his appointment was not a military one.

We need to come together as a nation and work towards oneness and success of the nation.
Declaring that elections will not be free and fair is wrong and obviously not in the spirit of progress. How does one foretell the future of elections.
Zimbabweans can only destroy themselves by preempting the results of the elections before the elections.

MDC-T Congress Means Mwonzora Will Be Reduced To An Ordinary “Pombi Yadonha” Member

By Dorrothy Moyo| If the MDC-T suddenly holds an extra ordinary congress, MDC Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora will be reduced to an ordinary card carrying member before that is done, it has been argued.

This is because the MDC will have to strip down all its structures, hold mini congresses, and all the way to the final one, the party’s deputy secretary general, Tapiwa Mashakada has said.

Mashakada said the time frame before polls are too short.

His comments were echoed by the UK based former coordinator, Shepherd Yuda who warned saying Mwonzora must know that he will have to be first an ordinary pombi yadonha member if the party goes to congress.

“Up until the National Council meeting that put Nelson Chamisa at the helm of the party in an acting capacity as MDC leader, there had been serious contestation regarding the question who is Acting President”, Mashakada said.

He continued saying, “the National Council put to rest that lacuna. The party now has a legal Acting President called Nelson Chamisa. This is according to the MDC constitution which says that in between Congresses the National Council is the decision making body and its resolutions are binding.”

He furthermore quipped saying, “now the Secretary General is suggesting that we must follow the constitution by going to a Congress to resolve what he conceives as a leadership dispute. I hereby argue that between Now and elections in July it is not possible to hold a Congress in terms of the Constitution. The Constitution provides timelines for the cascading of pre-congress restructuring of party organs. Congresses must be held from branch ward district up to provincial levels and a mandatory notice time line of 2 months is provided for all these mini-congresses of party structures.. I therefore argue that a normal congress can only be constitutionally convened in December 2018 at the very earliest.”

He then added saying it is only the National Council which can decide that an extra-ordinary Congress must be held. “Now the same National Council resolved that Nelson Chamisa will act for 12 months and this is constitutional.

“In the circumstances, it is only Nelson Chamisa who can summon National Council and request for an extra-ordinary Congress citing whatever reasons he may deem fit. As it stands no other person can constitutionally call for a congress,” he said.

“In this regard this is why National Standing Committee members must cooperate and not confront Nelson Chamisa inorder to appeal to Chamisa to call for an extraordinary congress ( of course through National Council). This is necessary because at present Chamisa is backed by the MDC Constitution which through the National Council, vested powers in him to act as President of the MDC for 12 months. The implication is that any national election eg General Election that the party decides to contest Nelson Chamisa shall stand as the candidate unless National Council revokes its earlier decision.”

FULL TEXT: Tafadzwa George Goliati Beaten Up By Riot Police

Passengers Association of Zimbabwe, President, Tafadzwa George Goliati Beaten Up by Riot Police

On Thursday 22 February evening late in the evening, I was beaten up by riot police, some few metres outside the Harare Central Police Station. I and a journalist from 263 Chat had just come out of Harare Central Police Station.

PAZ had been on a fact finding mission, where they were assessing the situation at bus termini in Harare after Harare City had barred kombis from entering the city centre and after the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing had reversed Harare City’s decision to ban kombis from the CBD. Soon after arriving at the Charge Office bus terminus violence erupted and there was a mob which was chasing and attacking police details who were in uniform as well as throwing stones and burning police cars.

I then ran into Harare Central Police Station for safety. We then left Harare Central after we had been advised by the police that it was now safe to go out as the situation had calmed down. We then met riot police at the corner of Inez Terrace and Robson Manyika. They were instructed by their commander to beat up people so that they could disperse.

I was beaten by baton sticks on my back and left hand and I fell down.  Some other individuals, including  journalist from 263 Chat were also similarly attacked. After about five minutes I rose and walked along Jason Moyo and when I got to Batanai Gardens I called some colleagues who were nearby for assistance.  A friend who is a journalist took me to Avenues Clinic where I got medical attention. I was in excruciating pain. I was discharged in the morning. I am still experiencing pain on my left arm which is in a sling and my eye sight has also been affected, partly due to headaches and the effect of teargas.

G40 Celebrates Mugabe’s AU “Breakthrough” Against Mnangagwa

By Farai D Hove| The ZANU PF G40 faction has celebrated the said “breakthrough” meeting between former President Robert Mugabe and the African Union’s commission chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

The meeting comes after the G40 now called The New Patriotic Front (NPF), had appealed to the African Union for intervention over the November coup that toppled Mugabe, saying it was allegedly illegal and violent.

Announcing on Twitter and Facebook portals, the G40 said the visit by the African Union to Mugabe’s Blue Roof residence was the first “sign that our petition has now reached the AU.”

The NPF also said the “junta” becomes unsettled by anything Robert Mugabe says.

‘Wife persecuted’

The development also comes after Robert Mugabe was quoted saying he is not at all safe and his wife is being persecuted.

“They told you I was safe, but how can I be in this environment?,” Mugabe reportedly told Faki.

“My wife is crying daily. They are persecuting her… What am I without my wife and family? We are not safe,” the Zimbabwe Independent quoted Mugabe as saying, as it cited “detailed notes” supplied by officials who attended the meeting.

Mugabe said his wife was being harassed over her PhD from the University of Zimbabwe. Last week UZ Vice Chancellor Levi Nyagura was arrested for alleged abuse of office for awarding her the degree in 2014. Critics say her thesis is nowhere near PhD standard.

‘Ruling through guns’

Mugabe reportedly insisted to Faki the PhD was genuine: “I used to see her here working hard day and night. I would assist her here and there, so how can someone wake up and claim she didn’t work for it? This is harassment.”

According to the leaked notes, Mugabe told Faki that Mnangagwa’s appointment as president was illegal, and appealed to the AU to help restore democracy in the country.

“We want you to assist to restore normalcy and democracy in the country and stop this thing of ruling through guns,” he reportedly said.

Chamisa And Mudzuri Finally Reconcile

Chamisa said following the death of Tsvangirai, the party will not change its name MDC-T, as it was used to distinguish them from the rest.-Newsday

Mnangagwa Warns Police Boss

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned the police boss over the shooting that saw cops kill two civilians on Thursday night.

The incident made angers to rise against the police force.

Speaking yesterday, Mnangagwa was firm with the Head of the Police Comm Gen Godwin Matanga.

President Mnangagwa said such disturbances should not happen again.

Comm-Gen Matanga said a team of investigators had been set up to look into the matter.

“From the onset, let me categorically state that the Zimbabwe Republic Police is seized with this matter and I have since directed a team of expert investigators to extensively establish the cause, what transpired, who was responsible and action will be taken,” he said.

“These investigators will leave no stone unturned. Perpetrators will be brought to book and there are no sacred cows. Violence in whatever form is not tolerated.”

Comm-Gen Matanga said the clashes were between the police and members of the public.

It was a culmination of an operation code-named Clean-Up Harare Central Business District, spearheaded by the City of Harare.

Comm-Gen Matanga said the police and other security agencies were assisting the Harare City Council to decongest the city centre of commuter omnibuses and pirate taxis.

“At around 1730hrs, a press statement was issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, directing that the operation should be stopped,” he said. “As the directive was given, the police and other security agencies were still in the middle of the operation, enforcing the ban and unaware of the cancellation.

“A team of police officers from Harare Central was confronted by an angry mob armed with stones, concrete pillars and rods. The crowd started to throw stones at the police officers whilst demanding to know why they had earlier on dispersed them alongside Harare Municipal Police.”

Comm-Gen Matanga said the crowd advanced aggressively towards the police, throwing stones, resulting in the officers firing warning shots, which could not deter the advancing mob.

“It was at this stage that the police officers fired shots that unfortunately killed two people and injured four others,” he said.

“In the ensuing violence, three police officers were seriously injured, a police vehicle was severely damaged and two others were burnt, several other cars were stoned and property worth thousands of dollars was extensively damaged.”

Comm-Gen Matanga said the bodies of the deceased were taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

He appealed to anyone who could assist with the identification of the bodies to contact their nearest police station, since the two did not have identification particulars.

Meanwhile, Comm-Gen Matanga has said police will not condone any form of violence.

His remarks were in reference to this week’s attack on MDC-T vice president Dr Thokozani Khupe and other officials in intra-party violence at the funeral of party leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai in Buhera.

“In a similar incident that occurred in Buhera at the burial of the late MDC-T leader, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, Dr Thokozani Khupe and other officials were assaulted, threatened with death by fellow party supporters,” he said.

“The ZRP will not tolerate any form of violence whether intra-party or inter-party and we are again investigating this matter and the perpetrators of this violence will be brought to book. As we approach the 2018 harmonised elections, let me appeal to all Zimbabweans to be peaceful as they campaign, before, during and after elections.”

Comm-Gen Matanga said people should heed President Mnangagwa’s call for peace and tolerance to opposing views and respect for the rule of law.

Mugabe & Mnangagwa Younger Than Chamisa When They Entered Politics

COMMENT: Dear Editor.

MDC Acting President Nelson Chamisa has been criticised by some who say he is too young.

Chamisa is 40 years old at present. Emmerson Mnangagwa was a teenager when he entered politics and only 35 when he started holding government office. His boss Robert Mugabe was in his 30s when he entered politics. Furthermore some have said Chamisa is too inexperienced and excitable. Who is not excitable, and at 65 when Robert Mugabe became Head Of State, was he experienced in running a government? People should stop barking and just vote for Chamisa.

South Africa To Repatriate Smuggled Zimbabwean Children

By Paul Nyathi | The South African government plans to depot back to Zimbabwe eight children held by their immigration authorities for three months despite being claimed by their parents who live in Cape Town.

The children were picked up by the immigration officers on November 11 last year while travelling to South Africa with a cross border transporter unaccompanied and without passports.

The children were spotted on the back of truck by observers who reported the matter to the police assuming that they were victims of human trafficking.

A joint unit of the police and immigration officers intercepted the vehicle at a Rustenburg garage and rescued the children.

They have been held by the department of social development for three months in Rustenburg without being granted access to their parents‚ some of whom have tried to visit.

On Wednesday‚ three of the parents arrived at a Rustenburg safe house and were denied access to the children. The parents later learnt that the children had been moved to an unknown location.

The department of social development has refused to reveal their location.

A father of a six-year-old learned on Wednesday that his son had been moved to an unknown place. He told South African daily TimesLIVE,

“They don’t want to tell us where they put our children … Please help us get our children.”

Department of social development spokesperson Lumka Oliphant said: “They are in the care and protection of the department of social development. The department has received confirmation from the Zimbabwean government of their preparedness to receive the children at the Robert Mugabe International airport next month. The department is now awaiting a waiver from the SA Department of Home Affairs.”

2 Killed In Road Accident

TWO people died on the spot while two others were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in overturned near Cross Dete along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road at around 2AM yesterday.

Police confirmed the accident that occurred at the 279km peg along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road.

“I can confirm that we received a report about an accident that killed two people on the spot and injured two others. On approaching the 279km peg along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road, the driver of the vehicle lost control and it veered off the road, first to the left and then to the right before it overturned,” said police spokesperson for Matabeleland North province Inspector Siphiwe Makonese.

She said investigations were underway to establish the cause of the accident.

Police have identified the deceased passengers as Marvellous Mpofu (25) and Lizwelabuya Mbambo (37) both from Chief Tshugulu’s area in Nkayi district.

The duo’s next of kin were notified, Insp Makonese said.

Another passenger Mr Thabisani Mloyi (25) from Nkayi and a driver Mr Future Chakanyuka (28), of Number 14 Hating Road, Northville in Bulawayo, were injured. Both were rushed to St Patrick’s Hospital in Hwange where they are admitted. – state media

Shiri Dragged To Court

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Resettlement Retired Chief Air Marshal Perrance Shiri has been taken to court by a company operating Halfway House Hotel in Hwange for turning down its application to lease the property.

Tetra Heights, through its lawyers Mutuso, Taruvinga and Mhiribidi Attorneys, filed a chamber application at the Bulawayo High Court citing Rtd Chief Air Marshal Shiri as the respondent.
The company is seeking an order directing the Minister to suspend the notice ordering it to vacate Halfway House Hotel.
Tetra Heights also wants Minister Shiri to be compelled to provide written reasons for rejecting its application to lease Halfway Hotel.

In her founding affidavit, Ms Primrose Muvango, a representative of Tetra Heights, said her company has been in occupation of the premises since August 2016 with the blessing of former Lands Minister Douglas Mombeshora.

“The possession of Halfway House Hotel was through a ministerial directive since August 2016 following the eviction of former owner, Mr Rob Sterling, as part of the land reform programme.

“The applicant was advised that they should possess the property until such a time that the Government of Zimbabwe would have nominated a new tenant to occupy the premises,” said Ms Muvango.

When Mr Sterling was removed from the farm, his employees continued running the hotel until the Government brought Tetra Heights.
The Government flighted a tender in December last year inviting interested persons to apply to the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement for a lease agreement. Tetra Heights, which was one of the applicants, was not successful.

Tetra Heights was on January 4 this year given a notice to vacate the premises. “Having received the notice that the application to lease the premises was not successful, the applicant on January 12, 2018 requested reasons for the administrative decision made by the respondent in terms of section 4 of the Administrative Act.

“To date respondent has failed to provide written reasons why the application to let the premises was refused,” said Ms Muvango.

“The applicant believes that the respondent is dragging its feet in releasing the reasons so much that Tetra Heights does not exercise its right of appeal or review before the expiry of the eviction notice.”
Tetra Heights has since last year been locked in a legal wrangle with former workers, who have invaded Halfway House Hotel wanting to control the property.

Tetra Heights was allocated the farm by Dr Mombeshora, but has faced resistance from six former workers, who have seized part of the farm, including a hotel, kiosk, service station and a workers’ compound. Chronicle

How Police Shot Dead 2 Civilians

Police are investigating a case in which two people were killed in Harare on Thursday night following mayhem caused by an ill-advised decision by the MDC-T-led council to ban commuter omnibuses from entering the central business district.

Seven people, including three police officers, were injured in the skirmishes.

Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga yesterday apologised for the incident and sent condolence messages to the families of the deceased.

He told a press conference that police would investigate the matter to its logical conclusion.

“It is with a heavy heart and sadness that I wish to announce the death of two people in a very unfortunate and regrettable incident that occurred on the 22nd February 2018 in Harare Central Business District,” Comm-Gen Matanga said.

“I wish to express my sincere condolences to the bereaved families and relatives who lost their loved ones.”

Comm-Gen Matanga’s sentiments followed a meeting he had with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Home Affairs Minister Dr Obert Mpofu.

At the meeting, President Mnangagwa said such disturbances should not happen again.

Comm-Gen Matanga said a team of investigators had been set up to look into the matter.

Drama As Prof. Moyo Blasts “Charlatan” Chamisa

G40 kingpin Jonathan Moyo has blasted acting Movement for Democratic Change president Nelson Chamisa as a hopeless charlatan.

Though he did not mention the MDC or Chamisa by name, Moyo tweeted: “Anyone who claims entitlement to leadership of an elective structure on grounds of anointment or inheritance is a hopeless charlatan!”

Chamisa was appointed by the party’s national council to act as president for 12 months only hours after party leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s death.

His colleagues Thokozani Khupe and Elias Mudzuri did not attend the meeting as they were already at Tsvangirai’s home mourning their departed leader.

Khupe claims she is the legitimate acting president because she was elected vice-president at the party congress while Chamisa and Mudzuri were appointed by Tsvangirai after congress.

Chamisa has dismissed Khupe’s argument saying the three deputy presidents are equal.

He also says there is no time to hold an extra-ordinary congress as elections are only three months away.

According to the national constitution, elections should be held between 23 July and 21 August.

Mnangagwa has hinted that they might be held earlier but he is likely to comply with the constitution as he is all out to regain international confidence and credibility.

Moyo’s tweet was greeted with both skepticism and praise by his followers.

McWilton said: “You booted out ED for Mugabe to anoint GucciGrace.   Now you complain and this is N.O.Y.B. You logic never cease to amae us.”

Raphael responded: “Apa wakuma apa.”

But Tafunga Mangombe did not agree: “Poor  memory  Coconut  head  u used  to worship  a 94 year  old  Mugabe  who  was just  being endosed not elected.”

Patson Dzamara chipped in: “Anyone who claims to be about leadership renewal and yet fronts a 94 year old is a hopeless hallucinator.”

Maxwel Mutero, agreed: “Haaaa wamupedzera”.

Fafie said: “Tinorova vanhu vane mhanza dzinokuya dovi.  $10 kana akazvarwa akadaro.  $100 kana akamboti “Did It”.”

Sydney F Zhakata, supported Moyo: “Hausati wambotaura chokwadi chinopfuura apa, shuwa G40 naChamisa should pay attention .”

And so did Tanaka: “Was having discussions with some colleagues earlier about the same thing. They’re all for Chamisa and seem very keen to see the suspension of the laws in order to catapult him into power. It’s hypocritical.”

Tapiwa Bvekera disagreed: “For the record I’m for constitutionalism, but going for a Congress is not the only way of following the constitution of the MDC. @nelsonchamisa has been elected acting president according to the @mdczimbabwe constitution I still stand by that!”

To which Tanaka responded: “The problem is that there are now too many candidates claiming legitimacy. Highlighting clauses over social media won’t bring closure. A ‘clear the air’ event like a congress will bring closure.”- The Insider

Auxillia Mnangagwa Sits And Eats With Villagers

The First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa was in another surprise visit this time meeting an unassuming Gogo Mapfuwamhandu who looks after her 15 grandchildren in Mt Darwin under Chief Dotito.

The visit sent the elderly woman who is taking care of 15 orphans the birthed by her deceased children into a wave of mixed emotions. Mbuya Esnath Chashaya is both mother and father to the 15 orphans.

News of such a visitor certainly travels fast and when the villagers got wind of the First Lady’s presence in the community, they dashed in their numbers to catch a glimpse of the woman who has redefined the meaning of being mother of a nation.

The villagers were afforded a rare treat as the Amai Mnangagwa prepared tea and shared it with the family.

With the visit and the First Lady’s acts the community is convinced their lives are certainly poised for renewal.

Amai Mnangagwa was told of the challenges the family is faced with and they also shared their aspirations.

“My Wife Grace Is Crying Daily,” Complained Mugabe – Missing Shopping Sprees, No Doubt

Wilbert Mukori | “For instance, they told you, I was safe, but how can I be in this environment? My wife is crying daily. They are persecuting her; that is obviously directed at me. What am I without my wife and family. We are not safe. We have constitutional benefits, for example, but these are being denied.” Zimbabwe’s former tyrant, Robert Gabriel Mugabe reportedly mourned to the visiting African Union Commission, Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat in Harare.

The corrupt and murderous tyrant’s arrogance and callous indifference to suffering and deaths of millions of ordinary and innocent Zimbabweans, the victims of his 37 years reign of terror, is insufferable!
When Mugabe took over power in 1980, he inherited a country with a strong and vibrant economy, able to feed its own people and the bread basket of the region. A country, with sound management, could have easily become the South Korea of Africa in terms of economic prosperity. Sadly, that was not to be!
By the time Mugabe was forced to resign by thugs in his own party, Zanu PF, the Zimbabwe economy was in total ruinous. 37 years of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption have taken a heavy toll on the economy. Commerce and industry collapsed, overburdened by tax and wastefulness of the muddling autocratic regime. The country was starved of new investment, investors shied away from a nation ruled by lawless thugs.
Mugabe seized the white owned farms in an orgy of gratuitous violence born of greed and political intrigue. The farms were given to Zanu PF loyalists whose greed for wealth was insatiable because whatever they got they wasted it and are soon back demanding for more. The seized farms suffered the same fate; they were left to lay idle resulting in the total collapse of the country’s agricultural sector.
The country, once proud to be the breadbasket of the region could not feed its own people. In the day and age when human ingenuity has turned deserts into blooming orchards; we are starving in a land which for all intend and purpose in the Garden of Eden. A damning testimonial to Mugabe’s blundering incompetence!
The total collapse of the country’s agriculture sector in the period 2000 to 2005 plus the voodoo monitory policy of printing Z$ resulting in a 500 billion inflation rate by 2008 were a hammer blow to the country’s economy from which it has never recovered. By mid 2000s, unemployment had soared to 80% and it is 90% today.
Zimbabweans are today the poorest nation in Africa. 72.3% of our people live on US$1.00 or less a day. Grace Mugabe has always lived a life of unparalleled leisure and luxury; she has bought more designer shoes and cloths than she will ever use and has properties and fat bank accounts. The nation and the whole world are rightly shocked to hear that she cries every day!
Grace is crying that she will no longer be able to go on the shopping spree and spend as extravagantly as she used to. She does not appreciate that her and her fellow filthy rich ruling elite’s wasteful extravagance was the root cause of the nation’s economic collapse. Her Gucci designer shoes was paid for by those who now live on $1.00 or less a day!
“It’s not like I am crying for those benefits I joined the struggle to fight to free my people. not to personally benefit anything, but why deny me benefits that I am constitutionally entitled to?” continued Mugabe.
No, Mugabe, you joined the struggle to end colonial white oppression for one reason and one reason only – so you can come the new lord and master. From the first day you took power you have toiled to undermine the rule of law, the state institutions, your own party Zanu PF and the individual freedoms and rights to create a de facto one-party cum one-man dictatorship to secure for your selfish gratification absolute political power and the spoils of influence and wealth that flow from it.
The violence that accompanied the farm invasions, for example, was just a smoke screen to hide the wanton violence you, Mugabe, unleashed on the nation in your single-minded resolve to return political power at all cost.
“What was won by the bullet cannot be undone by the ballot!” you instructed the war veterans, party thugs, the Police, Army and CIO personal in the wanton violence of the 2008 elections.
Not even SADC and AU would accept the 2008 elections as free and fair. In all your 37 years in power, you have failed to hold free, fair and credible elections. SADC forced you, Mugabe, to sign the 2008 Global Political Agreement (GPA) instructing the GNU to implement a raft of democratic reforms design to take away Zanu PF’s autocratic and undemocratic powers and restore the state institutions democratic powers and independence and the individual freedoms and rights.
You, Mr Mugabe, bribed Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends with the trappings of high office plus a former white-owned farm for Welshman Ncube and a $4 million mansion for Tsvangirai. In return, MDC leaders saw to it that not even one reform saw the light of day.
The November 2017 coup help remove the dictator, Mugabe, but only for him to be replace by another dictator, Emmerson Mnangagwa. The corrupt and tyrannical dictatorship itself was left untouched.
Since taking over after the coup, President Mnangagwa has promised the nation economic recovery and a new political dispensation, complete with free, fair and credible elections. He has not implemented even one democratic reform and has even dismissed all those calling for reforms as barking dogs.
“You need to assist us to bring this country to normalcy and democracy There is need for people’s rights to be restored and normal life to continue. Now there is no freedom of expression. If you disagree with them, then you must die,” pleaded Mugabe.
Yes, Zimbabwe needs the AU, SADC and the international community’s help to end the strangle hold this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs fostered on the nation. The coming elections are NOT going to be free and fair, that is clear; the AU and SADC must stand firm and declare the process null and void and force Zimbabwe to revisit and finally implement the 2008 GPA reforms.
“It’s not like I am crying for those benefits I joined the struggle to fight to free my people,” said Mugabe. AU Commissioner Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat’s eye brows must have gone up involuntarily; only a heartless murderous tyrant and megalomania would be crying for his lost glory oblivious of all the death and destruction he brought!
If there is ever going to be justice in Zimbabwe, then the wealth that Mugabe, his wife and cronies looted from the impoverished povo must be recovered and used to rebuild this nation from the ruins decades of Zanu PF misrule brought. If Grace Mugabe is forced to live on US$1.00 or less a day, a fate 72.3% of our people have been condemned to feed her insatiable greed, then she will have a better cause to cry everyday about than missing her extravagant shopping spree!

Chinamasa Defends An Economy With No Cash

Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa has defended Zimbabwe’s insistence on operating a cashless economy, saying countries such as India have since abolished use of cash and adopted electronic transactions.

GOVT TARGETS 350 000t OF WHEAT
Minister Chinamasa

Responding to questions from senators recently on how he will address the cash crisis, which continues to affect the economy, Chinamasa said cashless transactions were better as they helped curb corruption.

“In most jurisdictions, the cash-based transactions constitute about 10% to 15%, and in our situation, we are at 16%. But even at 16%, money is not circulating, and even if the Central Bank governor was to pump in billions — whether of bond notes or United States dollars, that money is withdrawn and it is never re-deposited in the banks,” he said.

“When you have that situation, where money is just being withdrawn and not being re-deposited, it means that the circulation is inefficient and you cannot run the economy that way and when we inquire into the reasons, it actually boils down to lack of trust and confidence.”

The Finance minister said India abolished cash transactions, insisting on electronic ones.

“Electronic is better because, as we try to fight corruption, much of it is promoted through usage of cash, where people move with suitcases of cash to bribe others,” he said.

“When transactions are done electronically, there is a paper trail, which inhibits those who would want to commit corruption. There is a problem with some shops, but my own view is that those shops, which are insisting on cash, are losing business because you cannot transact in cash if the cash is not there and it is clearly not in their interest.”

Chinamasa claimed that most businesses, including those at Siyaso (informal traders), were now transacting electronically

“The bulk of transactions in the future are going to be electronic and the sooner we accept that, the better for our good health,” he said.- state media

Khupe In No Show As Chamisa Chats Way Forward

MDC acting President, Nelson Chamisa says his party will not hold a special congress to choose a new leader this year.

He said this was because there is not enough time to organise one since it was three months before polls.Chamisa says his elevation to acting president is “100% correct” and Thokozani Khupe has failed to understand the procedure of picking an acting leader.

“Unfortunately, no vice president can elevate themselves to be the leader.  There are no appointed or elected vice presidents. We have 3 Deputy Presidents who are all equal. No-one is above the other,” said Chamisa.

Chamisa apologised for the violence in Buhera saying it was an embarrassment.- state media

Traditional Leader, MP Battle For Territorial Supremacy

Traditional Leader, MP Battle For Territorial Supremacy

Terrence Mawawa
There is a fierce battle over territorial supremacy between Chief Makoni and Headlands MP, Christopher Chingosho.

Chief Makoni, whose real name is Cogan Makoni, accuses the MP of using unruly youths to browbeat the traditional leader.

Makoni claimed that Chingosho instructed party hooligans to attack his aides.

“My wife is doing charity in Chingosho’ s constituency such that he is extremely worried because he is unpopular with party supporters,” said Chief Makoni.

On the other hand Chingosho refuted Chief Makoni’ s utterances as baseless and devoid of logic.

“I do not feel threatened at all.His comments are baseless and unfounded,” said Chingosho.

Russian mining firm chased from concession mafia style

By Talent Gondo | DTZ, A Russian mining company which was operating in the country was chased from their concession and premises in Manicaland mafia style in 2016 despite that their special mining licence was still valid.

The company, which lost its assets and other minerals which it had already mined revealed this when the company’s bosses appeared before the Parliamentary portfolio committee on Mines and Energy in Harare today (Friday).
DTZ boss, Victor Kuslya told the committee that armed soldiers besieged their company and forced them off their premises and investment following a government announcement issued by the former mines minister Walter Chidhakwa.
“We did not have a chance to take anything. Our supposed Memorandum of Agreement with government was signed under duress because we had no option. It was either we sign or we walk away with nothing at all,” said Kuslya.

Harvest House Renamed After Tsvangirai

By Paul Nyathi | The MDC-T has renamed its party Head-Quaters Morgan Tsvangirai House in honour of the late founder of the party ZimEye.com can reveal.

Reports from within the party indicate that the party’s standing committee resolved to rename the Harvest House to honour Morgan Tsvangirai for his service in the party.

Mnangagwa Grants Prisoners Amnesty

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly approved government plans to decongest the country’s prisons by granting an amnesty to some inmates serving light sentences or experiencing health challenges.

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Commissioner-General Paradzai Zimondi, confirmed the development yesterday at a handover ceremony of a 30-tonne sugar donation by Tongaat Hullet.

“I talked to the minister of Justice (Ziyambi Ziyambi) about the issue and he is the one who told me,” he said, while presenting the donation to inmates at Harare Central Prison.
The last amnesty was granted to more than 2 000 inmates by former President Robert Mugabe in May last year.

Zimondi revealed that more than 500 prisoners were suffering from malnutrition and the impending amnesty was coming at an opportune time to save the meagre resources in the country’s prisons.
He hailed Zanu PF political commissar, Engelbert Rugeje for mobilising the donation from Tongaat Hullet, while calling on both public and private institutions to help remedy the plight of prisoners, who continue to suffer hunger and malnutrition.

Current developments in the granting of amnesty to prisoners come on the backdrop of constant calls by opposition political parties for Mnangagwa to pardon political prisoners, who have been rotting in the country’s jails. Newsday

Joram Gumbo Can’t Remember What He Said Just Thirty Days Ago

By Paul Nyathi | Local Government Minister Joram Gumbo on Thursday evening took to the skies castigating the MDC-T run City Of Harare Council accusing it of causing confusion in the administration of the public transport system.

Minister Gumbo through blame to the City of Harare for the failed CBD decongestion exercise which saw public transport users being dropped off some three kilometres out of town.

The arrangement which was meant to reduce the number of vehicles entering into the CBD inconvenienced thousands of people who had to walk the stretch into town.

Disgruntled passengers and taxi operators ended up clashing with the police resulting in the death of two people in a shooting incident involving the police.

In a clear publicity stunt, Minister Gumbo immediately removed the blame from government and put it on the City of Harare.

The programme which was monitored by both the army and the police as instructed by government was actually a government initiative which Gumbo himself launched in January this year.

Minister Gumbo’s shock transfer of blame to the City Of Harare has been seen by many as political grand standing ahead of the elections.

Minister Gumbo somewhat forgets he issued a statement on the 19th of January launching the programme.

Full statement issued by Gumbo in January ahead of the launch of the programme on Thursday reads as follows:

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT, PUBLIC WORKS, HON. J.G. MOYO (MP)

Created: 19 January 2018

Following the unprecedented levels of anarchy obtaining in Zimbabwe’s Urban Local Authorities especially Harare City Council’s Central Business District we are compelled to act before the situation degenerates to even lower levels.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have noted with dismay that the situation in our CBD has become ungovernable in as far as vending and traffic management is concerned.

The Central Business District is now home to a litany of unhealthy vending activities such as selling of second hand clothes, unregulated vegetable vending, roasting mealie cobs, and money changers amongst other activities. Such activities are anathema and anachronistic of CBD areas of modern cities especially capital cities.

The menace is further exacerbated by the public transport system which has transformed the CBD into a hazardous jungle. Illegal ranks and unregistered public transport such as mushika-shika have become rampant posing great danger to both motorists and pedestrians.

Ladies and gentlemen if this situation is not contained as a matter of urgency, our Urban Centres particularly Harare Central business District will continue to degenerate into an eyesore. The consequences of illegal vending are too ghastly to contemplate.

As Government we cannot continue to fold our hands when the threats of typhoid and cholera have become a reality. These illegal activities in the CBD have virtually become cover for other criminal activities. It is thus critical that we arrest the situation before it explodes. Prevention is better than cure.

In view of this untenable situation let us all declare war on illegal vendors and unregistered public transporters. To the vendors who are operating at undesignated sites including in front of shops and to unregistered public transporters, you are directed to immediately cease forthwith your activities within the next 48 hours, failure of which you have no one but yourselves to blame.

Those who want vending sites should approach their Local Authorities and be properly allocated designated sites. Further take note that there is no other issuing authority besides the Local Authority itself.
To those who have been thriving on selling vending space, you are directed to stop forthwith. Such culprits should be reported to the law enforcement agents who must act, and ACT NOW!

We are also calling upon members of the uniformed forces to come and assist the Local Authorities in bringing sanity in our CBDs. Members of the public are urged to cooperate with all forms of law enforcement agents in an effort to eradicate this vice.
To all the Urban Local Authorities, it is no longer business as usual, I am imploring you to enforce your by-laws without fear or favour with the help of our National Police Force.

Thank you

WATCH: Police Regret Death Of 2 People

The Zimbabwe Republic Police says it regrets the death of two people and the injury of four in Harare Central Business District when police clashed with commuters yesterday.

Speaking at a press conference, ZRP Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga expressed his sincere condolences to the bereaved families and relatives who lost their loved ones in the skirmishes yesterday.

Commissioner General Matanga says the ZRP is currently looking into the matter and will leave no stone unturned in its investigations to get to the bottom of the matter.

“From the onset, let me categorically state that the Zimbabwe Republic Police is currently seized with the matter and I have since directed a team of expert investigators to extensively establish the cause, what transpired, who was responsible and action will be taken,” he said.

He said perpetrators will be brought to book and there will be no sacred cows, adding that the ZRP does not tolerate any form of violence.

Commissioner General Matanga blamed the incident on a rowdy crowd which attacked the police officers whilst they were doing an operation with the Harare City Council to decongest the CBD.

He said the police officers had been deployed together with other security agencies in support of efforts by Harare City Council to decongest the city centre of commuter omnibuses and Mushikashika.

Commissioner General Matanga said at the time the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Cde July Moyo issued a statement reversing the ban on commuter omnibuses entering the CBD, the deployed police officers were not aware of the change in circumstances.

He said interim investigations had revealed that the public had attacked the police officers and threatened them with stones resulting in the officers firing warning shots which failed to disperse the angry crowd.

“A team of police officers from Harare Central was confronted by an angry mob armed with stones, concrete pillars and rods. The crowd started to throw stones at police officers whilst demanding to know why they had earlier on dispersed them alongside Harare Municipal police,” said Commissioner General Matanga.

The police officers then fired live shots which unfortunately killed 2 people.

The police refused to entertain any questions from the press and referred journalists to the Harare City Council.

The police chief said the bodies of the yet to be identified deceased are at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals Mortuary.- state media

Ramaphosa’s NPA Bombshell | LATEST

President Cyril Ramaphosa has withdrawn the president’s appeal against a judgment of the North Gauteng High Court that NPA boss Shaun Abrahams should vacate his position.

This is the clearest indication yet that Ramaphosa plans to fire Abrahams and appoint a new head of the prosecuting authority.

Former president Jacob Zuma previously appealed the ruling by a full Bench of judges of the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria that found he was conflicted to appoint the National Director of Public Prosecutions. The case is scheduled to be heard on Wednesday. Abrahams is still appealing the matter.

In a letter delivered to the registrar of the Constitutional Court on Friday afternoon, the state attorney informed the court of Ramaphosa’s decision.

“With the current regime change and after consultation with the current President of the Republic of South Africa, we are instructed to inform this court, that the first respondent (Ramaphosa) is no longer prosecuting its appeal and therefore will not be present to argue the matter on 28 February 2018.

“To the extent that the former President (Zuma) may want to pursue argument on matters affecting him personally, he may do so through his legal representatives,” the letter reads.

It is unclear whether the state will continue to fund Zuma’s legal representation if he chooses to make personal representations. – News24

Harassed Liz Tsvangirai Forced To Leave Humanikwa Village

Morgan Tsvangirai’s widow Elizabeth was forced to leave Humanikwa Village in Buhera soon after the burial of her husband, unable to attend post-burial ceremonies after suffering relentless abuse at the hands of her late spouse’s family members.

The torment endured by Tsvangirai’s wife has been roundly condemned as “nothing short of a disgrace”.

The widow built the courage to make a public appearance at the burial, even after the family had severed all ties with their vivacious daughter-in-law.

According to Shona tradition, soon after burial of the deceased, precautionary rituals are usually performed to purify those concerned with the funeral, especially the wife, ostensibly to prevent the spirit from returning from the grave to torment those left behind.

Elizabeth did not participate at all in any core-funeral and post-burial ceremonies.

She was kept in the dark about the parameters on how death, funeral and post-death ceremonies should be held, and any other funeral arrangements.

She was also left out of the programme, arrangements how the proper burial rituals would be done, and all logistical issues, protocol included. No one consoled her as the bereaved.

The funeral ceremonies became a strictly Tsvangirai family activity, where family power was exercised to ostracise her, without any sense of remorse.

He role ended as soon as she brought back her husband’s remains back to Zimbabwe from South Africa where Tsvangirai died in a private hospital.

There was an earlier attempt to ban her from her husband’s funeral by her unforgiving mother-in-law Gogo Lydia Chibwe Tsvangirai, who was captured on State TV during the main news bulletin on Saturday night threatening to commit suicide if Elizabeth was allowed to mourn her husband at the Highlands home.

In a no-holds-barred sermon at the Mabelreign Methodist Church during a requiem service for Tsvangirai, forthright Reverend Jimmy Dube slammed the family for abusing their daughter-in-law.

“Vekwa Makuvise, nevekwa Tsvangirai (The Makuvises and the Tsvangirais) we have travelled together the ups and downs of life. Zvekutaura pa public zvemumusha siyanai nazvo (Stop washing your dirty linen in public).  Gogo Tsvangirai vane bhachi re red (Tsvangirai’s mum is an esteemed member of the church)  and we raised you well zvekutaura pa public siyanai nazvo (don’t air your family disputes in public).”

Elizabeth was also barred from accompanying her husband’s body, which was airlifted just after the Harare farewell to Buhera in an Agusta 412 bell helicopter. The helicopter took off from One Commando barracks with Tsvangirai’s mum.

The inconsolable Elizabeth was forced to proceed to her hubby’s burial in a road trip.

Tsvangirai’s brother, Manase, claimed in State media that Elizabeth was happy with how the family treated her.

“We have to treat all these wives equally,” Manase said.

“Maiguru Elizabeth was with the body from South Africa to Harare, naturally one has to give others a chance.

“When we were preparing to depart from One Commando to Buhera for the burial, we were asked to provide four people to accompany the body and it followed that she had to give others a chance and that is why she travelled by road. It had nothing to do with allegations of ill-treating her.

“When she came here last night, we gave her a room to sleep in and what better recognition do you expect, and she was quite happy.

“If you have three wives, for example, and even if one dies, that symbolic union cannot be taken away, particularly when there are children and when lobola (bride price) was paid. If you do not agree with my interpretation we can ask any elder around.”

Meanwhile, Elizabeth’s role as Tsvangirai’s caregiver was not acknowledged at all throughout the time the grieving widow paid tribute to her husband.

There was no mention of her at his burial, with the family choosing to  acknowledge relatives of Tsvangirai’s first wife, Susan, who died in a car crash in 2009 shortly after Zimbabwe’s inclusive government was sworn into power.

Throughout this abuse, Elizabeth wore that Catholic uniform with grace, behaved with decorum in the face of relentless abuse, cast out into an unkind, unfriendly world of misunderstanding in-laws and her late husband’s overbearing relatives.

Throughout the ordeal, she maintained her silence, never retaliating.

However, she felt embraced by her family circle, especially her dad, Zanu PF member and former Chitungwiza mayor Joseph Macheka, who tended to his daughter during the difficult grieving process, amid domination of oppressive traditional practices and customary codes.

The Daily News understands Elizabeth left Humanikwa the morning-after the burial, headed back to Harare.

Her departure reportedly caused rancour in the family, but was a bold statement against dictatorial tendencies by the Tsvangirai family, where her exclusivism became the tone of the funeral, and it was apparent she was being systematically sidelined.

She returned to her Highlands matrimonial home, where she has been confined since.

The only time she left her home was on Wednesday when she was invited to escort Kenya opposition leader Raila Odinga to the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

Odinga, one of Tsvangirai’s best friends, travelled to Humanikwa Village to lay the former prime minister to rest.

Odinga — who is at the centre of controversy in Kenya after he declared himself the “people’s president” at a controversial “swearing-in” ceremony in the capital, Nairobi three weeks ago after his unsuccessful bid for the presidency — met with MDC acting president Nelson Chamisa at the Meikles Hotel on Wednesday.

Chamisa travelled with Odinga to Buhera and back to Harare, where they convened the meeting.

The Daily News understands the meeting discussed “future cooperation, party-to-party cooperation, and carrying forward the legacy of Tsvangirai,” Chamisa told the Daily News in a telephone conversation yesterday.

Asked what Elizabeth was doing at the meeting, Chamisa said: “She was called by Odinga to accompany the family to the airport.”

Odinga came to Zimbabwe with his family, his two daughters and sisters.

The Odinga family was being hosted by Elizabeth.-Daily News

LATEST- Chamisa Gets Update On Khupe Assault

MDC Acting President Nelson Chamisa has received an update on the assault on his colleague Thokozani Khupe at Morgan Tsvangirai’s burial on Tuesday.

The notes were presented by the party’s Head of Security and Intelligence Major Gen. Giles Mutsekwa.

In his statement, Mutsekwa said preliminary investigations point to a security breach and he blamed Khupe’s security team for not being vigilant.

He said a full investigation will be completed in a week’s time.

Mutsekwa’s said:

1. We have just given the Acting President a preliminary report on what happened. Our preliminary finding is that there was a serious security breach in terms of our standing operational procedures:

Security details travelling with VIPs are supposed to be in constant communication with security details on the ground including indicating ETAs on major public events including rallies. This communication did not take place. We are in the process of digging deeper into this breach in addition to identifying the culprits

2. I am leading a committee of four. Work has already started and it is our belief that all things being equal the final report will be ready in about 7 days or so.

3. Our team’s terms of reference is to establish what exactly happened, establish whether there was any outside interference, were proper operational procedures followed, findings of the committee, who are the culprits the opinion of the committee and then make recommendations to the Acting President

4. People are volunteering information such as video evidence which will assist the committee.

5. We are taking this issue seriously and we intend to ensure we discharge of our mandate without fear or favour

How Grace Mugabe’s G-40 Lost The Battle

ZANU-PF’S deposed generation 40 (G40) faction was “within touching distance” of snatching the party’s presidency amid revelations that its vile plan included the capture of several strategic institutions, including public media, just days before the ex-liberation movement’s December 15 extra-ordinary congress.

This also comes as the vanquished group has been mobilising against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government under the National Patriotic Front (NPF) banner and a number of its staunch allies, including ex-police commissioner general Augustine Chihuri, Kudzanai Chipanga and Ignatius Chombo, remain under the cosh over a litany of political and professional indiscretions.

“G40 kingpins had not only set upon a plan to capture key state organs by supplanting tried and tested cadres with their surrogates – across the media spectrum, and numerous parastatals – on the Thursday before the army takeover kicked in, but their trump card was the 10th Dzivaresekwa interface rally and subsequent Zanu-PF congress, and where they would have wanted to install Grace Mugabe as acting president as well,” said a source.

“So sinister was the plot that we would have very well seen Robert Mugabe, and Phelekezela Mphoko going on leave and that unhinged woman taking over the reigns for up to three months after the old man would have been forced on an extended vacation. And as the desperation to seize power set in, you will be aware that they even tried to divide securocrats by roping in people like Chihuri on their side with a view of (even) forming a military buffer for the old man,” they said, adding the crafty schemers had also tried to mask their true intentions by throwing in former Justice minister Happyton Bonyongwe’s name.

“Of course, we know that the junta still wanted to put Mnangagwa in charge at congress after sponsoring a spontaneous revolt against their former leader by Zanu-PF provinces, but it had to bring forward its intervention after the G40’s increasingly bold manouvres. And like in any situation where such evil plans collapse, there have been many casualties – albeit willing messengers – in the form of the Chihuris, who are now being swept by the tide after a number of dossiers detailing their expedient actions such as the $120 million spot fines and illegal fundraising debacle, failure to deal with Frank Buyanga’s cases and unresolved top cop extortion saga,” the sources said.

With the ex-Zanu-PF women’s league boss’ influence on her 93 year-old husband, analysts polled by the Daily News recently concurred that it was quite possible that the acerbic Gushungo Holdings owner would have gone on a dry run of party and state presidency after the party’s December 15 extra-ordinary congress.

“In the circumstances of the succession struggles in Zanu-PF in 2017, one cannot entirely deny the plans and actions of the various factions. While pushing Grace to the presidency appeared a long shot… it may as well tell us how political strategies were becoming amateurish and how seasoned politicians were throwing caution to the wind,” Rashweat Mukundu, a former Freedom House researcher and commentator, said.

Ethiopian-based security expert Maxwell Saungweme also said “anything was possible (with these hawks and) the theory seems plausible given Mnangagwa’s earlier dismissal. Nonetheless, the military might have gotten wind of this hence its coup”.

However, Shakespear Hamauswa disagreed and said G40 kingpins – in the form of ex-Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo, and Saviour Kasukuweres – were just out to create smokescreens for their real motive.

“The fight was for Mugabe to leave office. So the G40 wanted to create a fake scenario where Mugabe would feel safe after his exit. The G40 had someone else other than Grace. They knew Grace was not going to make it so they were just using her for their hidden agenda,” the pro-government analyst said.

And as the Zanu-PF leadership contest, and intrigue continues – even after Mugabe’s November 21 ouster – Moyo and the deposed leader’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao have not only sought to continually project the Harare regime as illegitimate, but have escalated efforts to fight Mnangagwa and his military-backed government under the NPF cover.

According to recent media reports and indeed his own twitter posts, the ex-Tsholotsho North legislator still believes the nonagenarian leader was “wrongly, and unjustly” pushed out by the lacoste faction, and its security sector allies.

As such, Moyo and his G40 allies – notably Zhuwao – have set in motion plans to derail Mnangagwa by roping in Mugabe, National People’s Party leader Joice Mujuru, the Movement for Democratic Change and a dissident group called the 2018Resistance.

And in their latest, and nefarious activities to oust the new Zanu-PF leader, it is believed that the embittered lot was working “with certain remnants of the old security structure and apparatus” that was behind the former president’s feeble attempt to cling on to power in the after the November 15 military intervention.

Meanwhile, Chihuri and several other Grace allies remain under attack for a number of imprudent decisions, including the alleged looting of state resources that have been exposed by police deductions saga, and messy fight with Bigboy Pachirera.

“You see, Mnangagwa is such a calculative man for he simply lumped the former Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) head’s political sins to his professional indiscretions, which culminated in the latter’s sacking on December 18 last year. In my understanding, the litany of allegations ranged from his dodgy Kuyedza Club activities to the ex-top cop’s refusal to investigate cases reported by Buyanga against five parties and protecting surbodinates implicated in the Delish Nguwaya extortion cases,” said a source.

“Apart from these issues and complaints, his obvious G40 bias also reflected in the police’s failure to arrest Innocent Hamandishe on six assault and kidnapping charges, and where his officers would even claim they could not locate the former youth boss yet he was routinely attending Grace’s interface rallies,” they said.

And with the long-serving police chief under fire for presiding over a generally corrupt force – enmeshed in such hellish, and emotive issues as the spot fines saga – the incoming government not only had enough fodder to boot out Chihuri, but found support even among opposition quarters.

With all these outstanding issues that strike at the core of the force’s integrity, new Home Affairs minister Obert Mpofu has thus sanctioned sweeping changes to improve police conduct and operations – now being spearheaded by police boss Godwin Matanga.

In Manicaland, for instance, Chipanga is accused of grabbing a Headlands farm that had been earmarked for a state university, while Chombo is facing fresh charges of trying to muscle in on a Kariba fish farm.

In the Buyanga case, Chihuri is accused of sitting on dockets for the prosecution of Tawanda and Winnie Jakachira, lawyer Tamuka Moyo, Simon Charewa and Lawrence Muteswa over the flamboyant businessman’s loss of two Harare properties.

On the other hand, the stricken man was sucked into the Nguwaya case after chief superintendent Nyaradzai Majachani, superintendent Shepherd Tachiona, constable Clever Gadzikwa and Vengai Zano failed to appear in court despite arrest warrants having been issued. And this was after the Chinese Business Association had raised complaints over continued harassment by the alleged syndicate.

And despite efforts to clean up the security sector of rogue elements, Chihuri was seen as a hindrance to the operation by ignoring court warrants for the bent cops.-Daily News

Chamisa In Fresh Endorsement, As Khupe Bunks

Langton Ncube| Acting MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa is holed up in meetings with all the party structures, including Vice President Elias Mudzuri, with Thokozani Khupe absent.

Chamisa explained that the party is not going to hold an elective congress to elect the movement’s leader because of the nearness of the national election, in three months time.

Chamisa said this in Harare on Friday when he was responding to Khupe’s media comments that she was Morgan Tsvangirai’s successor since she was elected by MDC-T Congress.

Chamisa who claimed that he was anointed by the late Tsvangirai to lead the party said there was no difference between him and Khupe because none of the three vice presidents could elevate themselves to be the leader since they were all appointed by the National Council.

All provinces including the Matebeleland ones have endorsed Chamisa, with outspoken politician Tabitha Khumalo coordinating the press briefing attended by all party leaders.

“Ramaphosa Has Died” Journalist Who Gaffed To Return To Work

SABC news anchor Peter Ndoro says he is humbled by the outpouring of support and encouragement he received from members of the public, journalists and politicians after he mistakenly declared on national television earlier this month that President Cyril Ramaphosa had died in Zimbabwe.

He was meant to have referred to the late Morgan Tsvangirai.

Taking to Twitter on Friday morning, Ndoro thanked Ramaphosa for “graciously” accepting his apology.  He said he would return to work on Monday.

Last month, he apologised to viewers for declaring that IFP leader Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi had also died. The veteran journalist indicated to SABC management that he was fatigued and was taken off air to rest.- Citizen

It’s Tsvangirai Legacy Versus Mnangagwa In 2018

Kennedy Kaitano | At a time when some people were writing off the MDC-T  in the 2018 election, there is new hope that the MDC-T will turn the tables against Zanu PF who had been fast gaining ground based on promises made by the Mnangagwa administration, some of which are proving to be false to the public.

The MDC-T and the MDC Alliance’s hope have been rekindled by the sudden realisation by Zimbabweans who had been misled into believing that Tsvangirai was a puppet of the West, and that the MDC-T was a Western creation.  Zimbabweans have now realised that this was all just mudslinging by Zanu PF, and that Tsvangirai and the MDC-T are indeed the opposite of what Zanu PF under the Mugabe regime used to portray the man and the party he led.

People who had been hoodwinked into believing that Tsvangirai was a puppet of the West now see the current Zanu PF regime, with the same people who used to denounce Tsvangirai for calling for international investment now desperately trying to woe the Western countries to invest in Zimbabwe, with Mnangagwa having admitted publicly that when he sees a good policy from the opposition he takes it to be his.

While the Mnangagwa regime had earlier managed to hoodwink the people of Zimbabwe that the expressions of the Western countries were a commitment to invest in Zimbabwe, yet the truth of the matter is that the Western countries are giving a condition which Zanu PF is failing to follow through, that of free and fair elections. In a story in The Herald of 23 February titled a flowery heading “Switzerland hails ED”, it turned out that the Western world are still sceptical about the promises the Mnangagwa regime is making as the outgoing Swiss Ambassador told the media that   “President Mnangagwa’s promises on economic development and governance issues will bring prosperity to  Zimbabwe if they are followed through”,  adding  that “So I have to say the messages we are receiving from President Mnangagwa in all these areas, with focus on economic development and also governance areas, granting free, fair and credible and transparent elections, are very positive and welcoming messages”.

The western countries are therefore waiting to see if Mnangagwa will deliver free and fair elections, but already he has failed the test, as chiefs have already been deployed to terrorise the populace by recording the registered voters’ voting slips, and when the Zimbabwe Elections Commission tried to intervene, were told by Zanu PF officials that Zanu PF does not listen to the commission. Zimbabweans are slowly but surely seeing there is no end in sight to the country’s troubles as long as Zanu PF is in power. Imagine now there is conflict between the Chiefs and Zanu PF where in Manicaland Zanu PF has admitted that Chiefs have gone further in doing work for Zanu PF to the extent that they are clashing over candidate selection. The elections which the western countries hope will be free and fair have therefore already been rigged.
On some of his trips outside Zimbabwe where he has addressed Zimbabweans based in the Diaspora, President has been asked point blank that the Diaspora based Zimbabweans want their constitutional right to vote, and he flatly said those who want to vote should travel to vote. He also gave a false impression at Davos that Zimbabweans in the Diaspora were able to vote, as if he had put systems in place to enable them to from their countries of domicile.
With Zimbabweans now fully aware that Morgan Tsvangirai was a good person, a national hero opposed to the labels he had got from Zanu PF, one is inclined to think that Zimbabweans will vote to see that the aspirations of Morgan Tsvangirai are fulfilled.
Tsvangirai’s death has shake Zanu PF, amid evidence that the Manicaland Province of Zanu PF even tried to shed crocodile tears while using Tsvangirai’s death to woo voters for themselves. Shame of Zanu PF.
Zimbabweans must demonstrate to Zanu PF that hate politics has no place in Zimbabwe and vote Zanu PF out.

Mnangagwa Has Captured The MDC

Ray Nkosi | In a shocking revelation a senior MDC- T official has claimed that the party has been captured by a Lacoste cabal led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The sensational revelevation comes hot on the heels of moves in the party to fire Vice President Thokozani Khupe with counter moves by her faction to take Acting President Nelson Chamisa to court on allegations of violating the party constitution.

The vlocal Independent weekly paper reports that MDC-T national chairperson Lovemore Moyo says a “Lacoste cabal” working with the opposition’s enemies has captured the party and staged a coup to ascend to the top.Moyo likened the vicious succession squabbles following party leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s death to the actions of Zanu PF’s Lacoste faction that outsmarted the rival G40 and staged a coup in the ruling party and government in November last year.“As we speak, the MDC-T Lacoste cabal is running away with the party, violating every known rule, principles and values, including the party constitution,” Moyo told the Zimbabwe Independent in an interview.

The late Tsvangirai’s deputies, Elias Mudzuri, Nelson Chamisa and Thokozani Khupe, are locked in a tussle to take over the reins of the party.

Mudzuri and Chamisa both claimed to have been appointed by Tsvangirai acting president while he was battling aggressive colon cancer in a South African hospital.

Khupe has argued she is the rightful heir by virtue of having risen to the post at the MDC-T’s last elective congress.
According to Moyo, the MDC-T has been captured by the “Lacoste cabal”, but the former Speaker of Parliament would not be drawn into revealing the names of the alleged clique.

“The office of the national chairman calls upon all party cadres to concentrate on the task at hand, that is, to win the next harmonised elections. Accordingly, all party members and structures are directed to resist and seriously guard against the leadership and party capture by a political clique, in collaboration with our enemies, which is now a reality in the party,” Moyo, who last month told the Independent he would not contest in parliamentary elections later this year, said.

He also said he will not seek re-election as the party’s national chairperson at the next congress.

“All I am saying is that there is a political clique whose actions and manoeuvres resemble the actions of a so-called Lacoste grouping which eventually staged a coup, in their party and government. I have no names attached to my allegations. Even if l was reporting to the national executive council (Nec), I will put it that way.”

Grace Mugabe Is Crying Every Day, Says Bob

By A Correspondent| Former President Robert Mugabe has said his wife, Grace is crying every day, adding that his life has turned to worse 3 months after his removal from State House in November last year.

Mugabe reportedly made these comments to the visiting African Union Commission, Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat in Harare.

Mugabe, it is claimed, said his family was being harassed and he was being denied his constitutional benefits as a former head of state. In the report published by the weekly Independent, Mugabe said,

“For instance, they told you, I was safe, but how can I be in this environment? My wife is crying daily. They are persecuting her; that is obviously directed at me. What am I without my wife and family. We are not safe. We have constitutional benefits, for example, but these are being denied.

It’s not like I am crying for those benefits I joined the struggle to fight to free my people. not to personally benefit anything, but why deny me benefits that I am constitutionally entitled to?

You need to assist us to bring this country to normalcy and democracy There is need for people’s rights to be restored and normal life to continue. Now there is no freedom of expression. If you disagree with them, then you must die.

We need the spirit of Kenneth Kaunda in this country, ‘One Zambia, One Nation’. This country I is now deeply divided along regional and tribal lines; that is wrong We want our own ‘One Zimbabwe, One nation’ Harassing and intimidating people must stop; witch-hunting against people, must stop.

Why are they harassing people Some of them are overzealous. How do you arrest a whole university vice-chancellor over lies about a PhD? Some of these people are just idiots, they are ignoramuses.

….Anyways, just give us our benefits.

..I’m going, to tell the truth; there is no more democracy anymore in Zimbabwe. How can it be Is there when the military is ruling? I’m saying this as Robert Mugabe and, of course, I am not afraid of anyone. I was imprisoned for 11 years by the Rhodesians so there is nothing to fear.”

Scandal Hit Harare Filling Station Closes Shop

A Harare filling station shut down its operations on Tuesday after it emerged that its petrol was contaminated with water. Engen Petroleum at the corner of Kaguvi Street and Robert Mugabe Road had to stop serving customers following complaints by at least four motorists that contaminated petrol had caused mechanical problems to their vehicles.

The vehicles failed to start after they had received petrol with water, which led to the filling station to stop serving fuel, only to reopen on Wednesday.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) confirmed the development, saying a team of investigators had been dispatched to the filling station.

ZERA head of the petroleum department Engineer Andrew Guri said his team established that the fuel was indeed contaminated and that the operator was now in the process of cleaning the tanks.

Eng Guri said ZERA had not received an official complaint from the motoring public, hence no charges were preferred against the Engen Petroleum branch.

“We conducted some tests and they were positive. ZERA is mandated to prosecute retailers who sell contaminated fuel knowingly. In Engen’s case, the proprietor is working on resolving the issue and they had already stopped serving fuel,” he said.

“No motorists filed complaints with us and when our team arrived at the scene, there were no motorists being served neither were there complaints by any affected customers.”
A fuel attendant at the filling station confirmed that some vehicles’ engines had been affected by the contaminated fuel.

“Four vehicles failed to start after we had served petrol, only to find out that the fuel was contaminated,” said the attendant. A motorist, Mr Brighton Maboda, was on Tuesday complaining that his Volkswagen Polo had been affected by the contaminated petrol.

“I tried to start the engine just after buying petrol, but it failed to start. I called my mechanic to check on it and he concluded that it had been affected by the contaminated fuel. Engen staff is denying liability and are refusing to assist me,” he said. – state media

Nyasha Makuvise Sued

Former CBZ Holdings Limited group chief executive officer Mr Nyasha Makuvise has been dragged before the High Court for failing to pay for air tickets and service fees amounting to $12 766.

Mr Makuvise engaged the services of Traverze Travel (Private) Limited to book and pay for his air ticket in advance. In terms of the agreement, Mr Makuvise was supposed to pay for the air ticket and the services rendered by Traverze within seven days of ticketing.

According to the summons filed at the High Court on February 20, he did not make the payment as  agreed. The travel agent, through its lawyers Mutamangira & Associates, is claiming $12 766 plus interest.

Traverze is also seeking an order for costs against Mr Makuvise on a higher scale. In May 2015, Mr Makuvise entered a verbal agreement with Traverze for the booking and provision of air tickets.

“It was a term of agreement that the defendant would pay its tickets and service fees within seven days of ticketing,” reads the plaintiff’s declaration.

“Plaintiff proceeded to use its own resources to purchase air tickets on behalf of the defendant, and the defendant proceeded to take flights to destinations of choice.

“In breach of the agreement and the plaintiff’s standard terms of business, the defendant failed, neglected or refused to pay for the air tickets and the service fees.”

Despite demand, it is claimed, Mr Makuvise has refused, neglected or failed to pay the outstanding debt.- state media

Chinese Nationals Arrested For Smuggling

Police in Mutare busted a smuggling syndicate involving two Chinese and two Zimbabweans after they smuggled goods worth thousands of dollars into the country from Mozambique.

The four – Lin Ruming (23), Charles Bruce (43), Francis Taivavashe (24) and Ariston Chipenzi (38) were on Tuesday arraigned before Mutare provincial magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe for contravening Section 1 (b) (2) of the Customs and Excise Act Chapter 23: 02. They denied the charges and were remanded to February 27, 2018 on $100 bail each.

The quartet was ordered to report at their nearest police stations once every Friday and not to interfere with State witnesses. Mr Fletcher Karombe represented the State. The court heard that on December 15, 2017, Bruce approached Tamiyara Logistics that his consignment be cleared at Forbes Border Post.

The consignment, which belonged to ZimCN Investment was supposed to have been made up of pipes, angle steel, channel steel, jack hammers, steel wire rope, fibre cables, brake motor and helical-lobe compressors. The consignment arrived at the border post in a haulage truck which was being driven by Taivavashe.

“Chipenzi, who is an employee of Tamiyana Logistics handled the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority clearance and was given the release order. The consignment was however, moved to ZIMRA GMS for final clearance which was scheduled for February 1, 2018.

“Police, however received information to the effect that Taivavashe had smuggled goods and a physical examination was then conducted leading to the discovery of the smuggled goods inside the truck’s containers,” said Mr Karombe.

Tirivashe is alleged to have implicated Chipenzi , who then implicated Bruce as the owner of the consignment. Bruce is further alleged to have implicated Ruming, who is said to represent ZimCN, which owns the consignment.

The smuggled goods includes a huge volumes of generators, compressors, electric cable bundles, wheel barrows, roofing sheets, drilling tool boxes, meter boxes and others were worth thousands of dollars. Manica Post

Mugabe Defends Grace’s PHD, Says Mnangagwa Persecuting His Allies

By Langton Ncube| The former President Robert Mugabe said his successor Emmerson Mnangagwa was persecuting his wife Grace.

According to the Standard newspaper, Mugabe revealed his anger on Mnangagwa to the African Union (AU) Commission Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat in Harare this week at his Borrowdale home.

“We need the spirit of Kenneth Kaunda in this country, ‘One Zambia, One Nation’. This country I is now deeply divided along regional and tribal lines; that is wrong .We want our own ‘One Zimbabwe, One nation’ Harassing and intimidating people must stop; witch-hunting against people, must stop,”he said.

“Why are they harassing people. Some of them are overzealous. How do you arrest a whole university vice-chancellor over lies about a PhD? Some of these people are just idiots, they are ignoramuses,”said Mugabe.

The Mnangagwa administration last week arrested the University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor Levi Nyagura over Grace Mugabe’s PhD thesis.

Nyagura and another lecturer and former Sociology Department chairman, Claude Mararike, who reportedly was Grace’s supervisor, have been under investigation over how the degree was awarded.

The investigation was triggered by a complaint by 15 lecturers from the department, who claimed they never saw Grace’s study transcripts, progress reports or thesis. Grace was awarded the “earned” degree when her husband former President Robert Mugabe was also chancellor of all State universities.

UZ only published Grace’s thesis four years after she graduated against international best practices, but it showed material attributed to years after the degree was conferred.

Oppah Muchinguri Suddenly Fires The Entire “Parks And Wildlife” Board, Says They Had Taken Away Her Powers

By Staff Reporter| The Minister of Environment, Water and Climate, Muchinguri Kashiri (MP) has dismissed the whole Parks And Wildlife board.

Minister Oppah Muchinguri

Reasons for the dismissal as explained by the minister are that the board had allegedly usurped her executive powers.

ZimEye.com could not at at the time of writing ascertain exactly what the minister referred to by a usurping of executive powers. It was also difficult to establish if Minister Muchinguri followed due process before conducting her mass dismissal.

Last year, Muhcinguri was at loggerheads with the late Masvingo Minister Shuvai Mahofa over the relocating of 2000 animals from the Save Conservancy to Mozambique. Before her untimely death, Minister Mahofa vowed to stop Mrs Muchinguri.

Meanwhile, her office in a statement said Muchinguri has, “in term of section 6 of the 12th schedule of the Parks and Wildlife Amendment Act Number 19 of 2001, terminated the term of office of the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority Board with immediate effect.

“The wayward conduct of some members of the Board which was characterised by a departure from playing an advisory role to that of usurping executive powers, ran counter to the good cooperate governance principles that Government has adopted and is upholding.

FULL TEXT: Prof Welshman Speaks On Buhera Violence

Welshman Ncube

By Prof Welshman Ncube| The MDC unreservedly condemns the politically motivated violence and threats of violence which were directed at MDC-T Deputy President, Thokozani Khupe and some of her colleagues at the burial of the late Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai in Buhera on Tuesday 20th February 2018.

Violence and threats of violence should have no place in our political discourse as it attacks the very foundations of our constitutional democratic freedoms and liberties, thereby negating the right of each individual to hold political opinions of their choice.

The MDC notes the strong response so far taken by MDC-T Acting President, Advocate Nelson Chamisa against the said acts of violence and commends him for condemning the violence and instituting a speedy investigation as well as undertaking to take strong measures and actions against those found to be guilty of these acts.

The MDC encourages the Acting President of the MDC-T to continuously show zero tolerance to violence and to consistently speak against it.

The MDC appeals to all young Zimbabweans who have undoubtedly been reenergised, excited and motivated by the possibility of the Acting President of the MDC-T becoming the official Presidential candidate of the MDC Alliance in this year’s harmonised elections scheduled to be held anytime between 22 July and 22 August 2018, to shun violence and threats of violence and to seek to bring about change through hard work by organising, mobilising and motivating others to register as voters and to turn up to vote on election day. This is the democratic way of delivering change and guaranteeing a generational change of leadership in the country so as to rebuild the country for the prosperity of all Zimbabweans.

Mudzuri Vows To Hire Lawyers To Fight Chamisa

One of the three MDC Vice President Elias Mudzuri has declared he will engage lawyers in his fight against the party’ new Acting President Nelson Chamisa.

Mudzuri has been at war with Chamisa over the taking up of the Acting President post since a week before the late Morgan Tsvangirai died.

The development comes as Chamisa made a public announcement that the party’s constitution has been followed to the letter.

Mudzuri told the weekly Independent:

“We have the party’s secretary-general (Douglas) Mwonzora, who is a lawyer (and) can interpret to us the constitution What is clear is that we should go for Congress. The secretary-general knows the constitution. I am just an engineer.

Our constitution needs to be taken to lawyers who can interpret it. We need good lawyers who can interpret our constitution. If need be, let there be external lawyers who can come in and help to interpret our constitution. We want to work on the truth and deliver leadership accepted by everyone.

We want to bring sanity to mischievous behaviour by some members inthe party. Our society will not forgive us if we fail to unite. We must align ourselves first for us to talk about a successful MDC Alliance.”

Dembare Settle Beef With Disgruntled Players

Terrence Mawawa
Dynamos FC have finally settled a long standing dispute with their players.

The disgruntled players received their outstanding salaries and allowances after the executive managed to secure the funds.

The senior players had been on strike for more than a week, demanding to be paid their outstanding monies from the previous season.

The first team also boycotted the ZNA Charity Shield semi-final match against bitter rivals CAPS United last Sunday, forcing coach Lloyd Mutasa to field a largely youthful side.

On Tuesday, some of the players who featured in Sunday’s match also joined the industrial action.

Meanwhile, the development is a boost for the Harare Giants as they will have a full squad ahead of Charity Shield final against bitter rivals Highlanders.

The players are expected to return to training today.

‘Mujuru Is The Game Changer’

Terrence Mawawa| Former Vice President Joice Mujuru is the game changer in Zimbabwe’ s power matrix, a senior National People’s Party (NPP) official has claimed.

NPP Spokesperson Jeffryson Chitando yesterday said Mujuru was the trump card for the grand coalition.

“Zimbabweans must understand that the person or organization/political party that posted on social media that NPP President Dr Teurai Ropa Mujuru has unilaterally declared that NPP has immediately joined the MDC Alliance must be appreciating: (1) the NPP brand or Dr Joice Mujuru as a person.

2) the importance of NPP in adding value to any coalition or alliance.

3) The importance of building a united coalition to fight Zanu PF in the coming elections.

4 The experience Dr Joice Mujuru will bring to the coalition or alliance,” said Chitando.

“As NPP we do understand the concerns of every Zimbabwean in calling for unity of the opposition parties.NPP will always be open to the formation of a coalition with like minded political parties and organizations.

We have always stated that a grand coalition, which NPP would join, is one in which the name of the coalition/alliance is not linked to any of the partners.

The logo, slogans and campaigning colours to be used during the elections should not be linked to any of the partners,” added Chitando.

Mwonzora Drops Bombshell Against Chamisa

By Farai D Hove| MDC Secretary general Douglas Mwonzora has dropped a bombshell against the party’s Acting President Nelson Chamisa.

After days of arguing against each other, Mwonzora announced Thursday night that he has finally reached an agreement with Chamisa.

“Today I sat with Nelson Chamisa for over three hours going over the constitution and am happy that we reached a positive decision, after tomorrow we shall make an announcement,” he said.

The development led to many speculating as to what it is exactly that he has reached an agreement with Chamisa on.

According to standing committee member Chalton Hwende, Mwonzora had into last night been hiding the party’s constitution. Announced Hwende, “Mwonzora was withholding the release of our MDC Constitution because he is lying about the constitutionality of the National Council Decision to appoint our Acting President. If you want the soft copy version of the current MDC Constitution as amended in 2014 drop your email / WhatsApp me on 07777**** or email me cha[READACTED]@gmail.com

At the end of last night, Mwonzora had announced saying Chamisa’s appointment to the party presidency is illegal. Below was his tweet:

Zunde Says Mnangagwa Is Tolerating Obert Mpofu

“You said it Mr President. Why do you tolerate Obert Mpofu?”

By Dorrothy Moyo| The Zimbabweans United for Democracy party has attacked President Emmerson Mnangagwa claiming that he is tolerating Home Affairs Minister Obert Mpofu.

“You said it Mr President. Why do you tolerate Obert Mpofu?,” the party said in a tweet.

Their protest comes after Obert Mpofu bolted out parliament yesterday while refusing to answer for his alleged role in the disappearance of diamond revenue during the days when he was Minister Of Mines.

The criticism against the President comes after the head of state had not responded on the parliament drama.

O Level Results Revealed Today

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) November 2017 Ordinary Level results will be released today, an official confirmed yesterday.

Traditionally the results are released by mid February but this year they were delayed by a week following the nullification of the English Paper 2 after authorities discovered widespread cheating.

Zimsec Public Relations Officer, Ms Nicky Dlamini said the results will be released today as earlier announced.

“Yes, the results will be released tomorrow. We will issue more information when they are released,” said Ms Dlamini.

Government two weeks ago ordered a re-write of the English Paper 2 but this was stopped by the High Court which ruled that the overall English exam results should be based solely on the students’ English Paper 1 performance.

In granting the order cancelling the re-writing of the exam, Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo, sitting with Justice Priscilla Munangati-Manongwa, re-emphasised that the real culprits in the whole debacle were officials from Zimsec.

“No action to date has been taken against such officials,” said Justice Matanda-Moyo.

“It is the court’s view that failure to take action against officials responsible for leakages is responsible for the discrediting of the education standards in Zimbabwe.”

Zimsec Board chairman Professor Eddie Mwenje apologised to the nation for the anxiety and disappointment caused by the November 2017 Ordinary Level English Language Examination leakages. Six Zimsec bosses have since been sent on leave, with its director Mr Esau Nhandara also on leave pending retirement.

Prof Mwenje said to ensure uninterrupted flow of business at Zimsec, the board had appointed Dr Lazarus Nembaware as the acting director.

Due to delays in releasing Ordinary Level results, the examination body has extended the June examination registration deadline following the expiry of the initial deadline last Friday.

Zimsec said the new deadline will be announced after the release of the results today. — state media

I Didn’t Beat Up Chiyangwa

Barry-Rukoro

Namibia Football Association (NFA) secretary-general Barry Rukoro on Wednesday accused his football body’s head Frans Mbidi of being behind “lies” that he assaulted Cosafa president Phillip Chiyangwa in South Africa last week.

Rukoro, who is presently out of the country, said there was no scuffle between him and Chiyangwa. Instead, there was a “heated” discussion “between men” in full view of others regarding internal NFA matters that Mbidi brought to an international audience in his ongoing bid to oust the secretary-general.

Mbidi on Monday told The Namibian Sport that he was “informed” that Rukoro had a physical altercation with Chiyangwa, who did not deny the claim, and that “the NFA was not officially informed about any charge of misconduct” by Cosafa.

“Whoever is saying so is spreading a lie, and of course for obvious reasons. And I am aware where this is coming from. For the record, it was only me being upright and facing a situation I was and still am convinced needed to be addressed with the Cosafa president at that very moment, as it was getting irritating, and was out of order,” Rukoro told The Namibian Sport.

In a detailed narration of what transpired on the sidelines of Cosafa’s annual general meeting in Johannesburg on Friday last week, Rukoro felt that he was wronged and only defended himself verbally.

Mbidi took a purely NFA labour issue and national matter to a sub-continental platform with the distinct intention to garner support for his crusade against Rukoro, the irate NFA secretariat figurehead said. Mbidi indicated that he would respond to Rukoro’s accusations.

“Apart from the fact that Mbidi went about gossiping and spreading lies about me and the NFA executive at continental and sub-continental events across the length and breadth of the continent, which his colleagues were all too willing to tell me, what was wrong was that the Cosafa president was willing to take this matter to a Cosafa executive committee meeting for discussion. That was completely out of order,” Rukoro charged.

Mbidi and Rukoro have a long-running feud, which dates back to the tenure of former NFA president John Muinjo.

In February last year, Mbidi failed to oust Rukoro after suspending the secretary-general by citing insubordination. With no concrete evidence to back up his claims, Mbidi went back on his decision two weeks later.

The spark for the latest public spat between the two senior football officials was Mbidi’s pronouncement earlier this month that Rukoro will not be offered a new contract once his current contract lapses next month.

“Mr Mbidi is going around telling people that he will not organise an NFA executive meeting for fear that his letter to me may be reversed by the NFA executive, but he chose to seek support against me at an international forum. That is not only disrespecting his colleagues on the NFA exco, but the ability of Namibia to deal with our own issues,” said Rukoro.

“In their discussions, I was told by a Cosafa member of the executive in the presence of another that the idea was to deal with me and the NFA executive to assist Mbidi.

“All I did was to confirm with the Cosafa president if the version I heard is indeed true, and how he is planning to deal with me and the NFA executive in a matter that does not in any way affect Cosafa. He confirmed to me that Mbidi is pumping him up with a lot of stories about me and the NFA executive, which is not supporting him. Of course, the discussion was a little heated, but no scuffle took place,” Rukoro continued.

Getting rid of Rukoro, who has considerable influence in the executive, is seen as Mbidi’s only chance at getting a third term as NFA head.

“[These are] all lies intended to serve Mbidi’s personal intentions. It is easy to establish if indeed there was anything like a scuffle or not. My discussion with the Cosafa president took place right in the centre of the lobby of a big hotel in Johannesburg at lunch. How come nobody saw a scuffle?

“I refuse to be apologetic about this; no person has the right to threaten me, notwithstanding his position. When you do that, I go into defensive mode. It’s natural, most real men do that,” stated Rukoro.

Cosafa have no authority to meddle in NFA matters, Rukoro stressed.

“I was told that the discussion is about helping Mbidi to deal with me and the exco. How Cosafa can do that, I do not know, but I could not leave it there without trying to understand that.

“It is completely against my being that you speak about me unofficially, which I accept, as some men do gossip, and then confirm such discussion at an official platform and expect me not to raise the matter with you. I have always been a fierce defender of my rights. I will continue to do that here and abroad,” said Rukoro.

“Of course, the energy of that kind of discussion between two men, who may see themselves as strong characters, may be seen by the NFA president as much more serious than they are.” – The Namibian
