In a sad confirmation of patronage in the ruling party, the Zanu PF provincial committee, Jappy Jaboon, has announced that the party is taking back a citrus farm given to former Minister of State for Masvingo, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti because he has been expelled from the party.
Addressing a Mwenezi inter-district meeting at Rutenga on Thursday last week, Masvingo political commissar and MP for Bikita East, Jaboon said the party is going to take from Bhasikiti the citrus farm in Mwenezi since he no longer belongs to Zanu PF.
Bhasikiti however, dismissed the utterances as wishful thinking adding that land reform was not based on political inclinations. He said Bhasikiti should not continue occupying the farm following his public attacks on the ruling party that he no longer belongs to Zanu PF hence he should not benefit from its programmes.
“As Zanu PF Masvingo province we are going to take that citrus farm from Bhasikiti. He no longer belongs to the party so why should he continue to benefit from its programmes. Relevant procedures are being taken so that the farm will be allocated to small-scale farmers so that many people will benefit from it.
“Very soon we will announce a date for all the people of Mwenezi who did not have land to occupy the farm especially you Zanu PF officials and party members” said Jaboon.
Bhasikiti said that the farm was so productive that no person with a sound mind can talk about grabbing it from him.
“That is wishful thinking and those people have been saying that for the past three years. Land reform is a government programme regardless of political affiliations. Many people with divergent political views have benefitted from this programme including those from MDC. If someone wants my farm he may have to convince the Minister of Lands so that he will cancel my offer letter if the farm is not productive but that is not it” said Bhasikiti.
Bhasikiti also insisted that he was still a Zanu PF member since he has received no communication on his expulsion. He said he was elected on a solid popular vote which is difficult to challenge.
“What I know is I am yet to be informed about my expulsion. I was elected on a 99,9% popular vote. It cannot be overturned overnight. During central committee election they sent soldiers to intimidate people but I was elected and this time I will trash their candidate come elections. People want to see me as their MP until 2018,” said Bhasikiti. -state media
Zimbabwe Gives Agribank $30Million To Beat Capitalisation Deadline
Government has injected $30 million into state-owned Agricultural Bank of Zimbabwe (Agribank) ahead of this month’s deadline for financial institutions to meet minimum capital requirements, the bank said on Tuesday while reporting a flat performance for the full year to December last year.
The loss for the year marginally narrowed to $9 million from $9,2 million in the prior period. Interest income was flat at $12,4 million after the bank reduced its loan book, with loans and advances falling to $77 million from $90 million in prior year.
Interest expenses and similar charges declined to $5,5 million from $4,9 million.
“The bank received $4 million capitalisation from government in November, 2014. The bank’s core capital as at December 31 was $7,575 million. The bank is pleased to advise that government, as the shareholder of the bank has capitalized the bank to the tune of $30 million,” Agribank chairman Sij Biyam said in a statement accompanying the audited financials.
“The capital injection in May has therefore enabled Agribank to achieve a Tier 1 core capital level in excess of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe minimum capital threshold of $25 million.”
The bank said it would this embark on a restructuring exercise to reduce operating costs which stood at $22,9 million during last year. -The Source
Cairns Reconstruction Plan To Go Ahead As Firm Secures $30million Investment
Foods manufacturer Cairns Holdings has been given an approval by the High Court to enter into a scheme of arrangement with its creditors after securing from an unidentified investor to inject $30 million into the troubled business.
At the beginning of this year, an official familiar with developments at the firm told The Source that five new investors had expressed interest in investing in the company after another potential investor, Vasari Global of South Africa, failed to commit.
Last August, Cairns was close to reaching an agreement with Vasari Global which reportedly wanted to acquire the central bank’s 67 percent stake in the company and assume its $25 million debt but failed to reach an agreement.
In the past, Dairibord Holdings, Judah Holdings Limited, Eastern Trading Company Limited of South Africa, a consortium of Russian investors and lately Takura Capital have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring a stake in the company.
A source familiar with the developments confirmed on Tuesday that the company had secured an investor to inject $30 million but declined to give further details saying doing so would jeopardise sensitive negotiations.
“The purpose of the scheme is to negotiate terms with creditors, it’s a compromise settlement,” the source said.
On Monday, the judicial manager, Reggie Saruchera of Grant and Thornton announced in a statement that an order was granted by the High Court on June 3 for creditors to meet on July 15 under the chairmanship of Andrew Mugandiwa.
“For the purpose of considering and, if deemed fit, agreeing, with or without modification to a Scheme of Arrangement between the company and the scheme members and creditors,” read the statement.
Saruchera declined to comment on the matter saying that details would be discussed at the meeting.
In 2013, the company, which has been under judicial management for the past two years accessed $1 million bailout under the Distressed and Marginalised Areas Fund (Dimaf), a joint government and Old Mutual facility for troubled companies but said it requires a further $8 million to get on the path to full recovery.
It used the funds to acquire new machinery for snacks production.
Established in 1947, Cairns is one of the country’s oldest food manufacturing companies. Its fortunes took a nosedive after adoption of multi-currencies in 2009, forcing it to apply for judicial management and delisting from the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. -The Source
South Africa Army Held At GunPoint In Sudan As Omar Al-Bashir Exits S. Africa

News24 | Erika Gibson | Johannesburg – The Sudanese government of president Omar al-Bashir literally held a gun to South Africa’s head to secure his safe return to Khartoum.
Netwerk24 can reveal that about 1 400 South African soldiers in Darfur were held “hostage” by Sudanese troops when the drama around Al-Bashir’s possible arrest in South Africa escalated.
According to military experts, this effectively means Sudan blackmailed South Africa and the soldiers’ lives served as a guarantee for Al-Bashir’s safe return.
Only after Al-Bashir safely touched down in Khartoum on Monday, were Sudanese troops withdrawn. President Jacob Zuma is the commander-in-chief of the defence force.
‘So scared’
“We were so scared – we were surrounded by soldiers. We handed out extra ammunition to all our troops in case they needed it,” said one South African soldier in Sudan on Tuesday.
The deployment of Sudanese troops and threats against South Africa started shortly after Al-Bashir left for the African Union summit in Sandton, Johannesburg. He arrived on Saturday night. Heavily armed Sudanese soldiers surrounded military bases in Kutum, Mellit, and Malha. South African troops were placed in a state of combat readiness.
“Vehicles approached our bases and the commander placed us on State 2 of readiness,” said another soldier. This meant all troops had to be in combat gear, fully armed, and positioned in bunkers and against embankments.
‘Would have to surrender’
Another soldier said if the situation got out of hand, “we would have had to surrender to save our lives, because you can’t fight a country’s army with a poorly equipped battalion”.
The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has been battling for years to get proper combat gear and armoured vehicles to its troops in Darfur. The delivery has consistently been blocked by the Sudanese government, which, on more than one occasion, prohibited South African flights from entering its airspace.
“I am so thankful that South Africa did not arrest Bashir. The battalion commander said after Bashir touched down safely in Khartoum, all the [Sudanese] troops were withdrawn. The calamity has returned to normal,” reads a message sent by a soldier in Darfur to his friends in South Africa.
About 1 400 South African soldiers are serving in Darfur as part of a combined African Union/United Nations peace mission (Unamid). The current group are from 8 SA Infantry Battalion in Upington.
Poorly equipped
At a briefing last week, SA army chief Lieutenant-General Vusi Masondo said the Sudanese troops and rebels in that country were much better equipped than the South Africans, which made it difficult to maintain order.
“Our nerves were shot and we were very relieved when the militants withdrew on Monday evening. We knew we were sitting ducks,” said a South African soldier.
Unamid said it was unaware of the situation.
Zuma’s spokesperson Harold Maloka referred all questions to the SANDF, which did not respond.
‘Blatant intimidation’
Military expert Helmoed-Römer Heitman said if the events were true, it was blatant intimidation.
“Our troops in Darfur are already vulnerable. They’ve been led into traps numerous times and had their weapons confiscated.
“If there was a confrontation, I have no doubt that the South Africans would have returned in body bags. They have been deployed as peacekeepers, not as combat troops.
“If the threatening situation is confirmed, South Africa has no other option than to withdraw its troops from such an impossible situation,” Heitman said.
Mutasa: Mugabe Will Not Make Me A National Hero
Former Presidential Affairs minister Didymus Mutasa says the way President Robert Mugabe had failed to recognise the late Amos Midzi as a national hero showed that the ruling party had now morphed into an “undemocratic animal” that was controlled by one man — the long-ruling nonagenarian.
A former minister and diplomat, Midzi, died on Tuesday last week in a suspected suicide and was buried at the Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare, with Mugabe and the ruling party flatly refusing to accord him hero status, not even at district level — because he was linked to former Vice President Joice Mujuru.
Sources who spoke to the Daily News at the weekend revealed that Midzi had died “a very bitter man” and had been unable to take his “ruthless rejection by a party he worked so hard for” on untested charges of being part of a so-called “putschist cabal” linked to Mujuru that was allegedly plotting to oust and kill Mugabe.
So controversial were the circumstances that led to Midzi’s death that many in the warring ruling party have raised serious questions about how exactly he met his fate, in addition to re-igniting raging national debate about who qualifies to be a national hero in the country.
Mutasa, a former politburo member who faces the same inglorious fate that Midzi had to endure until his death despite his long service to the divided ruling party, told the Daily News yesterday that it was clear that Mugabe and the post-congress Zanu PF were determined to deny many deserving Zimbabweans the status of national heroes — just because these people had dared to challenge the party or were wrongly suspected of plotting against Mugabe.
“It now appears as if anyone who is not in good books with the post-congress Zanu PF will not be recognised. Even people like me who have worked for Zanu since its inception are going to be ignored. Zanu PF ought not to be selfish as they are doing now and should recognise anyone deserving to be a hero,” Mutasa said.
By making this call, Mutasa joins opposition parties, including the Morgan Tsvangirai-led MDC, who have long lost faith in the partisan way used to select national heroes — who now derisively call the National Heroes Acre “Gushungo Heroes Acre”.
On his part, Mugabe has urged those who question the ruling party’s partisan role in determining who becomes a national hero to find “their own mountain” and bury their dead there.
Asked whether Zanu PF’s criteria when bestowing hero status was holistic given his inside knowledge Mutasa, a former influential politburo member and close confidante to Mugabe, said “things (the selection) should be simple and straightforward”.
“Our sympathy goes to the Midzi family and we sympathise with his daughter and we support her and what she said about her father being a hero,” he said.
Probed further by the Daily News if Midzi, who was once linked to the Zanu PF vigilante militia group called Chipangano that terrorised opposition party supporters in the Harare high density suburb of Mbare ahead of the 2013 polls, qualified to be a hero, Mutasa said he had “the attributes that eclipsed” those of some who were buried at the Heroes Acre.
“There should have been some recognition of what he did for Zanu. At least he should have been given a provincial hero status because he was the Harare chairperson and thus automatically had the credentials to be a provincial hero.
“The work which he did for Harare province should have been recognised by Zanu PF. What is beyond doubt is that Midzi was indeed a national hero. The fact that he was suspended is neither here nor there. He did a lot for the party,” Mutasa said.
Midzi’s death came at a time that Zanu PF is being disembowelled by deadly factional and succession wars. It further exposed the deep fissures in the ruling party as his funeral was characterised by clashes between the two distinct and bitterly-opposed Zanu PF formations that now obtain since late last year — with most liberation struggle stalwarts now operating as the “original” Zanu PF.
Mutasa said the seemingly unstoppable fights in Zanu PF explained in part why Midzi was totally ignored by the warring ruling party as a hero.
“The people of Harare province were very happy with what Midzi did for the party.
“They should have worked hard to ensure that he was declared a hero, but the supposed chairperson (now expelled Godwills Masimirembwa) could not do anything because he appears to be in trouble himself,” he said.
Quizzed on whether only people with connections to Zanu PF were supposed to be declared heroes, Mutasa said “even vendors who are soldiering on” deserve to be recognised as heroes.
“All sorts of people need to be recognised if they did something outstanding for the country. Unfortunately, this has been personalised and Midzi’s death shows how democracy has died in Zanu PF,” Mutasa said.-Daily News

Walter Masocha Escapes Jail|BREAKING NEWS
STV|A former university lecturer who founded his own church and sexually abused members has avoided jail after a sheriff said he had “already suffered a spectacular fall from grace”.
Walter Masocha, who called himself “The Prophet”, was made subject to a community payback order with the condition that he performs 250 hours unpaid work.
The 51-year-old was also placed on supervision and the sex offenders register for 12 months.
The “Archbishop” of the Stirling-based Agape for All Nations Church, who put his hand down the trousers of a schoolgirl saying he was trying to remove demons, was assessed by social workers as at “moderate risk” of re-offending.
Masocha, who also groped a young deaconess while he was supposed to be praying for a problem she had with her stomach, was told by Sheriff Kenneth McGowan his conduct must have left his victims “hurt and bewildered”.
The sheriff said: “The evidence was that you touched each of the complainers inappropriately on several occasions. At the time they were both members of a church of which you were leader.
“You held a position of trust which you abused, and a further aggravating factor in relation to one of the victims is her relatively young age.
“Dealing with the question of harm, the complainers must have been left hurt and bewildered by your conduct, at the time it happened and thereafter.”
Sheriff McGowan said the law required courts only to impose custodial sentences when no other disposal was appropriate.
He said: “There are many cases where the gravity of the offences are such that a custodial sentence is inevitable.
“Without in any way seeking to downplay the severity of the offences in this case, my view is that this is not the position here.
“The criminal justice social work report has assessed you as suitable for a community-based disposal, and in addition you have already suffered a spectacular fall from grace.”
The sheriff added Masocha was otherwise of good character, saying “It is very clear from references submitted on your behalf that you have carried out charitable and other works and are respected for that.”
Masocha stood head bowed in the dock at Falkirk Sheriff Court as the sheriff spoke. On the public benches his wife Judith, labelled The Prophetess within the church.
The man, who used to teach at Stirling University, appeared for sentence after being found guilty of sexually assaulting the deaconess and sexually touching the schoolgirl after a six day trial in April.
Jurors, who took less than half an hour to reach their verdicts, had heard the schoolgirl aged 15 was left in tears after Masocha “pinged” her knicker-elastic and pinched her bottom claiming she had demons in her pants.
The deaconess, a 32-year-old mother-of-four, was also told The Prophet had been “trying to remove ‘something’ from her genitals”.
Both were targeted between April 2012 and January 2014 at Masocha’s £500,000 seven-bedroom mansion, Coseyneuk House, near Stirling, where the Zimbabwe-born churchman received a steady stream of followers.
During the trial the schoolgirl now 16, said she regarded Masocha as her “spiritual father”, and like many people in the church called him “Dad”.
She said in late 2013 she was with other girls in an upstairs games room when Masocha came in and waved her over.
She said: “He placed his hand round my lower back, and moved his hand down until he got to my underwear, and he sort of pinged my underwear.
“He repeatedly pinged my underwear, ran his hand down my bottom, and grabbed and pinched my bottom.”
The Stirlingshire secondary school pupil said she felt violated and later asked Masocha why he had done it. He replied he had seen “demons and things that shouldn’t be there” in her pants and he was clearing them away.
She broke into tears because she thought she had been bad without realising. Mascocha said he would pray to remove the “demons” and left the room.
In another incident, when she was 13 or 14 , she said Masocha had been sitting down at his home, very close to her, advising her about school when he suddenly said, “You’ll always be mine”, and kissed her on the lips.
She said at the time she was happy, because members of the church had been taught anything they received from Masocha was a blessing from God, but now she felt disgusted.
The deaconess said Masocha had hugged her “very intimately”, caressing her back and kissing her round the neck, and saying “receive my love”.
On another occasion said she had once gone to his office for prayer with a stomach complaint.
She said: “He said he was going to pray it away. He touched my tummy, then his hand went down my body, onto my private parts.
“It was like he was feeling me. I was so shocked. At that time I saw him as somebody who could never do any wrong, because that was what he used to teach us. He used to teach us his hugs were anointed.”
She told her husband, a devoted member of the church, from whom she has since separated, and he said: “The Prophet is seeing something in your genitals that needs to be removed, so he was removing that.”
The woman, a trained nurse, later fled her matrimonial home with her children, and spoke about what had happened to her brother, and others.
She said: “Suddenly, my eyes were opened.”
She began an online blog to expose the activities of the church, which she called “a cult”.
In other incidents, she described how as part of her involvement with the church, she had to undergo an all-night “deliverance” after her husband told her she had to be delivered from demons.
Shortly before she left the organisation for good, church members called an ambulance to a service she was attending in England and tried to get her sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
Paramedics declined to act, concluding the call had been an “act of public humiliation”.
Defence advocate John Scullion QC said Masocha had since resigned from “active participation in the church” and members of the congregation were “no longer welcomed” at Cosyneuk House, which had reverted to the role of a family home.
Outside court, Cindy Martin, a former pastor at Agape, hit out at the fact Masocha was not jailed.
She said: “It’s like a slap in the face for female members of the church.”
She also claimed Masocha was still active in the church and had been at a church event in St Andrews, Fife, only on Sunday “lapping up adulation”. -STV
Bashir Arrest: Mugabe Exposes Jacob Zuma
African Union chairperson Robert Mugabe said on Monday that President Jacob Zuma had guaranteed the AU Summit that his Sudanese counterpart Omar Al-Bashir will not be arrested by police once he set foot on South African soil.
“Zuma was telling me that one of the NGOs went to court, and I am quite sure they were used by outsiders,” the Zimbabwean president said, according to a Mail & Guardain report.
“He [Zuma] said President Bashir would not be arrested, as he would not allow police here to arrest him.”
The summit, which was held from June 7 in Sandton north of Johannesburg, was officially closed by Mugabe some time after midnight.
Mugabe said the ICC was not wanted in the continent.
“This is not the headquarters of the ICC, we don’t want it in this region at all.
Bashir departed for Sudan on Monday, despite a high court order preventing him from leaving South Africa. His departure sent mixed reactions across the country, with opposition parties accusing the government of violating a court order.-TimesLive/Mail&Guardian
Midzi’s Assassination: Police Ignore Investigation Demands
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has announced blanket action against calls for an independent investigation into the death of former Cabinet Minister and ZANU PF Harare Chair Amos Midzi saying there is no need as they are “convinced” of the findings made to date.
Police were on Tuesday morning winding off what they claimed was a probe into the death of former Zanu-PF Harare provincial chairman and Cabinet Minister Amos Midzi, who was found dead in his car at his farm in Beatrice last Tuesday.
A whistleblower has said Mr Midzi was assassinated and analysts say if their claims were false leaving suicide as the conclusion, still the evidence of mental torture on Midzi, a loyal Grace Mugabe supporter, would point to an assassination by inducing the act. They wrote on the day Midzi died saying: Amos Midzi wasn’t a saint but neither did he kill himself out, a quick google of “Umbrella death” will confirm your worst fears. Though it wasn’t an umbrella literally used on Midzi’s death our intelligence has been for a long time acquiring silent killing methods from the Israelis and of interest Ricin a poisonous substance topped the list of our research, this agent kills quickly when injected in one’s body and toxicology tests will take a long time to detect especially in Zimbabwe were we don’t have proper lab facilities. But why would they use that on Midzi? Prior to his suspension a few weeks ago he had blown the lid on the real diamond looters and vendors cash scandal and Grace Mugabe’s name featured so much on his dossier armed with tangible evidence Midzi was courting foreign media Daily Mail UK, Mail & Guardian SA mistake he made was dealing with Savanhu who in turn found an opportunity to cleanse himself sold out the whole plot to Mashayamombe and Omega Hungwe, Cleveria Chizema and they had a round table with Pupurai Togarepi. Martin Mukatyei(you once wrote about him on Chindori Chininga death) That’s when the military intel took over the issue because of their interests in the diamond sector and the damming info that was about to be unleashed they just resolved to silence him. His suspension from Zanu PF was a well calculated move to make it seem as had become depressed and commit suicide.
But the Police say there was nothing sinister on their findings and a “post-mortem conducted last Wednesday on the deceased’s body revealed that he died of poisoning”. They said no foul play was suspected and Midzi’s case would be treated like any sudden death.
“We are in the process of concluding the case and the matter will be treated just like any sudden death case since no foul play is suspected,” a senior police officer said.
The matter is being handled by detectives from the CID Law and Order Section based at Marondera Police Station.
Midzi’s post-mortem was carried out by a team of three doctors who concluded that the death was due to market pulmonary oedema due to poisoning.
In a statement last week, police chief spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said further samples were taken for toxicology tests.
Police recovered a one-litre bottle of poisonous methamidophos and sleeping tablets from Midzi’s vehicle, raising fears that he could have committed suicide.
A cup containing a bluish liquid was also recovered from the car, a Ford Everest registration number ACY 3329, grey in colour, which had all doors locked.
Midzi was buried on Saturday at Glen Forest Memorial Park.(State Media/Additional Reporting)
Gono’s Property Attached Over Salary
FORMER Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor Gideon Gono has had his property attached by the Messenger of Court over $22 000 owed to his former finance manager identified as James Gondodza.
Gondodza, who worked at Gono’s Omega Abattoirs, claims the ex-RBZ boss owed him salaries from January 2013 to October 2014. The attachment of the property followed the registration of an arbitral award at the High Court in the sum of $22 060 by Gondodza after the arbitration tribunal presided over by Honourable Masinire, ruled in his favour. The attached property included a Toyota Hilux with no wheels, a CAM truck with no wheels and 1 500 asbestos sheets.
In his statement of claim, Gondodza, through his lawyer Kumbirai Masasire, had accused Gono’s firm of committing unfair labour practice.
“The claim against the respondent (Omega Abattoirs) is salaries due to claimant (Gondodza) from January 2013 to date (October 2014). The respondent has committed unfair labour practice by refusing to pay claimant his salaries due to him,” Masasire said.
“The respondent is refusing, neglecting or reluctant to pay the claimant. There is no basis whatsoever for the respondent to refuse to pay claimant once the services has been rendered. Thus respondent is guilty of unfair labour practice.”
Gondodza claimed that Gono’s firm had failed to respect the sanctity and sacredness of his right to remuneration.-Newsday
US Congressman Drops Mugabe Bombshell
A top US Congressman has dropped a bombshell account outlining future US-Zimbabwe relations. In what is a sure disappointment to 91-year-old President Robert Mugabe currently begging for the lifting of US sanctions, Rep. Christopher H. Smith, R-N.J trailed Zimbabwe’s history for over 120 years since British explorer Cecil John Rhodes’ times, concluding ominously at the end that Mugabe and his leadership are at a dead no-return end.
The narrative reveals that US relations have a hope only after the current crop of resented leaders under the 91-year-old leader are gone. The US government which played a key role in bringing down the racist Rhodesian government, has been influential in fighting for Zimbabwe’s democratisation.
Below was his speech addressed to the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives:
Mr. SMITH of New Jersey. Mr. Speaker, Zimbabwe is a country the size of the state of Montana, with a population of nearly 14 million people. However, its mineral wealth gives it an outsized importance. The southern African nation is the world’s third largest source of platinum group metals and has significant reserves of nickel, gold, chromium and dozens of other metals and minerals. Significant diamond reserves were discovered in 2006. Currently, about 40 percent of the country’s foreign exchange is earned from the export of these metals and minerals.
It was the abundance of such mineral resources, and their exploitation, which has driven the relationship between the West and Zimbabwe. Since its colonization by Cecil Rhodes’ British South Africa Company in 1889 on behalf of Great Britain, the area once known as Southern Rhodesia has experienced a tumultuous history.
The white minority gained self-governance in 1922, and a 1930 Land Apportionment Act restricted black access to land, making many Africans laborers and not land owners. In 1964, the white minority government unsuccessfully sought independence from Great Britain, and then unilaterally declared independence a year later under white rule. This move sparked international outrage and economic sanctions, and that regime was never widely recognized by the international community, though the support of white-ruled South Africa enabled the government to limp along.
Meanwhile, black opposition to minority rule, which began in the 1930s, erupted into a guerilla war in 1972. Attempts to end the conflict diplomatically failed until the 1979 talks brokered by Great Britain resulted in British-supervised independence elections. The winner of those elections was Robert Mugabe, leader of the Zimbabwe African National Union, or ZANU, who at age 91 continues to rule this country, in large part through intimidation and manipulation of elections.
As a hero of the independence and majority rule movements, Mugabe has enjoyed the support of many other African leaders, who have considered him an honored elder and have generally declined to join in international efforts to sanction his government. This has placed the United States in an awkward position, with limited African support for political and economic reforms in Zimbabwe.
Although many observers have credited the Mugabe government with productive management until fairly recent years, there were political problems from the beginning of his rule.
For example, Mugabe fired fellow independence leader Joshua Nkomo in 1982 and then launched a campaign to suppress what his government called a rebellion by pro-Nkomo forces. The Mugabe regime has been accused of killing thousands of ethnic Ndebele citizens over the next few years to end the supposed rebellion, assisted by military advisors from East Germany and North Korea.
Once one of the leading industrial nations in Africa, Zimbabwe began a long economic downward spiral in the late 1990s. Squatters, with the support of the Zimbabwe government, seized white farms they claimed had been stolen by white settlers in the past. Despite government assurances, these farms were not transferred to black farm workers, but rather to cronies of the Mugabe government who lacked agricultural experience. Both whites and blacks in Zimbabwe acknowledged that the land policies had been unfair, but the manner of addressing this problem led to serious economic problems for the country.
Agricultural production fell, and the manufacturing sector, heavily tied to agriculture, also diminished. Efforts to squeeze currency for shrinking national reserves from businesses, coupled with the disastrous requirement that businesses use the fictitious exchange rate, caused retailers to lose money with each sale. The effort to close the many vendors who supplied tourists with souvenirs and citizens with necessary household items was yet another milestone in Zimbabwe’s economic collapse. By 2006, year-on-year inflation exceeded 1,000 percent. Devaluation of the currency and the subsequent use of foreign currency are credited with eventually preventing a complete economic collapse.
Zimbabwe and the United States have had a tempestuous relationship since that southern African country emerged from white minority rule. Part of the problem has been resentment by Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and his closest advisers against the United States for not supporting their liberation movement, the backdrop to which was the geopolitical conflict between the Soviet Union and the United States. Another part of the problem has been the justifiable public criticism of repressive political policies by the Mugabe government by successive U.S. administrations. Consequently, the minimal communications between our two governments has contributed to suspicions and an inability for U.S. officials to reach out to cooperative Zimbabwe officials.
Successive elections have been the subject of opposition and international criticism for the lack of political space allowed to those who would challenge the ruling ZANU party. Arrests, incarcerations, torture in custody, beatings at public rallies and demonstrations and disappearances of government opponents have denied legitimacy to the Zimbabwe election processes. The country’s commitment to democratic governance has been further placed in question due to a series of repressive laws preventing freedoms of speech, association and movement.
As if the government’s repressive tactics are not troubling enough, political jockeying in Zimbabwe, including the recent dismissal of Vice President Joice Mujuru, places the succession to President Mugabe in doubt, which puts U.S. policy in question. Last week’s hearing examined current U.S. policy toward Zimbabwe and the prospects for an enhanced relationship depending on events that have not yet taken place.
Of course, in foreign policy, one cannot wait until a crisis materializes in order to create a planned response. A leader nearing the century mark, presiding over a fractious political scene in a country that has experienced political and economic turmoil creates a situation in which planning for a positive outcome to regime change must be devised.
Zimbabwe is a country rich in both natural and human potential. Once the resentments of the current old guard have passed and democratic governance can be established, U.S.-Zimbabwe relations can become what they have never been: harmonious and mutually beneficial.
Tsvangirai, Biti Fight for Joyce Mujuru| FULL ANALYSIS
Takura Zhangazha|Zimbabwe’s mainstream opposition, now in the form of a number of MDC offshoots, has been having a bit of a spat over former Zanu Pf second secretary and national vice president Joice Mujuru.
It began with the MDC Renewal’s Elton Mangoma, in the throes of factional fighting, accusing his then leadership rival, Tendai Biti of liaising or at least wanting to join Mujuru in her newfound political endeavours.
A few days later, Biti retorted that it would be the height of idiocy for them not to seek some sort of political pact with the former vice president. Though he also stated that it was highly unlikely that he would ever form a similar coalition with Morgan Tsvangirai, the leader of the largest opposition party in Parliament.
Not to be outdone was the MDC-T spokesperson, Obert Gutu, who warned Mujuru against taking the MDC-R seriously because in his own words, ‘they don’t have numbers’.
Add to this the wannabe mediator voice of Simba Makoni and you have an opposition falling over its feet trying to be in Mujuru’s loop.
In return, the spokesperson for the still to become a physical reality People First, Rugare Gumbo, confirmed meeting with some of these outfits to sound them out. He is also reported to have said that they are looking for those with numbers on the ground.
While avoiding mirth, one can be forgiven for thinking that it is Joice Mujuru who has been in opposition politics all of this time.
A key question is how it is that contemporary and long duree opposition parties are caught wanting to curry favour with their one time and rather obtuse rival over and above their own programmes of action?
Of the opposition parties in the mix, only one is actually fully constituted. This being the MDC-T. It held a congress and has a national leadership elected from the same for a reasonable period of time.
The other parties that are clamouring to be at Mujuru’s table have nether held full elective congresses in the aftermath of the 2013 harmonised election. And they are all in parlous internal states with factionalism, defections and resignations.
Moreover, none of these parties have so far articulated an alternative post 2013 national program to rival the generally defunct Zanu Pf one of ZimAsset. Even where they have a substantive national leadership.
Instead, their national plans of action appear to either split, cause further splits within splits, cause by elections they do not participate in and then immediately thereafter seek coalitions with personalities that have been their rivals all along.
This is however not to say coalitions are a bad thing in themselves. One only needs to look a the Kenyan example of multiple collations toward general elections to get an idea as to how these may work. It was the National Rainbow Coalition that defeated ruling party candidate Uhuru Kenyatta in 2002. Eleven years later it was another coalition, the Jubilee Coalition that eventually brought Uhuru Kenyatta to power.
The key difference is that those opposition parties that joined electoral forces all had their own initial programmes and organizational capacities that they brought to the coalition table.
In our Zimbabwean contemporary case, the collective opposition is not in a state to form a serious or organic coalition among the old players or the much vaunted new player on the scene. At least for now.
What would be required is for each of the opposition parties to get their internal affairs in proper democratic order, articulate their national visions and then seek out broad coalitions.
The default route, which can be appealing for its populism, to merely gather personalities together and claim a grand coalition, will sad to say, not work. There will be scrambles and disputes over leadership positions and uncoordinated presentation of the overall national agenda of such a coalition. As already evidenced already by the media spats over who Mujuru should join forces with.
The saddest thing though is that for all these years, the opposition has not learnt to continually stand its own organic political ground . It has to wait for Zanu Pf to help it find a new cause along the way. Its own issues get clouded in the dust of factionalism, petty personality differences and an unfortunate propensity to seek international recognition before all else.
Perhaps, this time things will be different. Perhaps there will be a statesman/woman that will emerge from this raucous opposition politics in Zimbabwe. But on the basis of current events, it will be tremendously hard work for democratic success to be realized. If only for the country.

Kirsty Coventry Hits 28.08 Record Silver
Kirsty Coventry has hit records just as she prepares for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Kirsty reached a 28.08 in the backstroke dash.
Kirsty gained momentum when she picked up a silver medal in the women’s 200m backstroke event on the first night of the Mare Nostrum Swimming Series at Monte Carlo in the French Principality of Monaco on Saturday.
The 31-year-old two-time Olympic gold medalist from Zimbabwe clocked a good time of 2:10,01 as she finished second behind Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu who had complete control in the women’s 200m backstroke leading from wire to wire.
Hosszu finished in a time of 2:08,54 nearly a second-and-a-half ahead of Coventry who finished second in a time of 2:10.01 as she continues on the comeback trail. German Jenny Mensing collected the bronze in a time of 2:10,53, according to reports from Monte Carlo.
Coventry was using the two-day Mare Nostrum stop in Monaco, which finished last night, as part of her preparations for next year’s Rio Olympic Games in which she is expected to represent Zimbabwe at the world’s biggest sporting showcase for a record fifth time in a row.
Mare Nostrum is a series of swimming meets with three meets around the Mediterranean Sea in June annually.
Already a winner of seven Olympic Games medals – two golds, four silvers and one bronze – Coventry is also looking at adding one or two more medals to her medal haul at the Rio Games which are set to run from August 5-21, 2016.
Apart from taking part in her favourite 200m backstroke event, Coventry is expected to compete in the 100m backstroke, 200 and 400m Individual Medley competitions at the Rio Games where she is looking at redeeming herself after walking away empty-handed at the last Olympics in London in 2012.
Coventry is currently based at Charlotte in North Carolina, United States, where she is training at SwimMAC during a career resurgence.
She is the most decorated Zimbabwean athlete in the history of the Olympic Games after having made her debut appearance at the biggest sporting showcase on the planet way back in 2000 as a sprightly 16-year-old girl and still a high school pupil at Dominican Convent in Harare.(State Media/Additional Reporting)
WATCH:Mliswa Blasts Mugabe, Fights Bi-Election In Court
ZimSentinel|Hurungwe West losing candidate, Temba Mliswa has blasted African Union and SADC Chair President Robert Mugabe saying he should observe democracy in his own country first before preaching to African Union.
Describing the by –election held on 10 June as not ‘free and fair’. Mliswa lost the seat to a ZANU PF candidate, Keith Guzah who polled 5961 votes against Mliswa’s 4 239.
Addressing journalists at the Media Centre on Monday morning, Mliswa alleged that ZANU PF had intimidated his supporters and many of his supporters had been turned away by officials conducting the poll.
In ward 16, 127 voters were turned away while 51 were assisted in voting. He claimed that over 150 people were assaulted in the run up to the election and during the election.
Mliswa accused the police of folding their arms while ZANU PF supporters perpetrated violence on his supporters. Several cases were reported to the police but the police did not turn up or record any of these cases.
The losing candidate who was reading from a dossier said that given these circumstances it was clear that the election could not be declared free and fair.
However readers online said Mliswa had no right to cry foul given that he had won these elections under the same circumstances in the 201 3 harmonised elections.
“Mliswa won the Hurungwe seat under the same condition. Zvarwadza now?” asked the reader.
Mliswa added that he would be contesting the outcome of the election in court. ‘We will succeed in court because our legal representatives have learnt from their mistakes’ said Mliswa.
He urged other candidates to participate in these elections as it was the only way to gauge if reforms were being effected. Participating would also make the opposition learn from their mistakes he argued.
The recent elections have been dismissed by many civic organisations as a waste of time. Many of the organisations argue that the government has not yet implemented the necessary reforms prescribed by the new constitution to hold free and fair elections.
UK Asylum Claim Man says: “I’ve Been An MDC Member Since 1987.”
Asylum seeking singer says I’ve been an MDC member since 1987
Coventry Telegraph |AN ASYLUM seeking singer claims he would face torture and violence if he was sent back to Zimbabwe because of a CD he made criticising President Robert Mugabe.
A tribunal heard Prince Mapetosa Mazwi, who has been living in Coventry, had made a musical CD in the UK country criticising Mugabe’s controversial regime.
His legal adviser, Andrew Nyamayaro, wanted to play the “Voice of Freedom” CD to Immigration and Asylum judge H S Sangha as the drummer sought asylum at an Immigration and Asylum Tribunal in Birmingham.
But Sangha said the courtroom did not have the facilities.
Sangha said: ‘‘We don’t even know if the voice on the CD is that of Mr Mazwi. It could be anyone.”
Nyamayaro said the voice was that of the appellant and that he would be at risk if sent back to Zimbabwe as a result of making the CD.
Mazwi of Stoke Heath, Coventry, said he was a member of the Movement for Democratic Change, which opposed the Government.
He said he had appeared on Twitter denouncing the Zimbabwe Government after making the CD in the UK.
The tribunal was told that Mazwi sang controversial lyrics on the CD apart from playing the drums with his group.
He complained he had been tortured and beaten up by security forces because of his protests shortly before fleeing to the UK.
Mazwi appealed against a Home Office recommendation that his asylum seeking application should be refused after warning that he faced further torture and violence if sent back home.
“After being attacked and tortured in Zimbabwe I went into hiding, staying with friends, before coming to England,” he said. “I moved from place to place in Zimbabwe to avoid detection.”
Mazwi made the CD in 2010. He had been a member of the opposition group since 1987 and said he had attended protest rallies.
John Proctor, representing the Home Office, questioned whether Mazwi would be at risk if he was sent back to Zimbabwe.
“The Home Office previously refused to grant Mazwi asylum which has prompted his appeal today,” said Mr Proctor.
Sangha said he would made a decision at a later date.
President Mugabe is now 91 and has been control of an alleged “violent and tumultuous” regime since 1980 despite unsuccessful attempts to remove him.
Zimbabwe is said to have one of the poorest economic situations in the world.
Crisis Coalition Blames ZANU PF for anti-Lewanika Protests
The crisis ridden Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CIZC) has blamed the protest call for Director McDonald Lewanika’s exit, on Robert Mugabe’s ZANU PF party.
In a statement, the NGO alleged that Mugabe’s ZANU PF activists were responsible for the protests which began last year over alleged abuse of office and organisation funds.
The NGO’s board said in the broad presser it has since reported the case to the police. The full statement read:
“The Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CIZC) Board and the entire membership strongly condemns the unruly behavior by some malcontents, as exhibited, on Friday 12 June 2015.
“These malcontents whom we hugely suspect to be ZANU PF thugs came around 9:30 am. They started knocking the gate violently and directing insults at the outgoing director, Mr. McDonald Lewanika.
“After realizing that no one was responding, they wrote insulting messages on the gate using graffiti. They also threw placards inside the gate denigrating the person of Mr. Lewanika. This followed efforts to open the gate using a metal bars and pliers. These cannibalistic actions instilled fear in all the employees who were present.
“The insults as well robbed Mr. Lewanika of his deserved dignity.
“As the board, we therefore sincerely apologize to Mr.Mr. Lewanika and the entire secretariat. It is our heartfelt belief that the secretariat does not deserve such treatment, in the wake of the tireless efforts they make to raise the flag of Crisis Coalition.
“Imagine, Mr Lewanika has served the organization for more than 8 years. We would like to hasten, to tell our employees that such actions strengthen, rather than weaken them. All the Anti-democracy forces feel threatened by the existence of Crisis Coalition by virtue of its active stance against injustices since its formation. We have since made a report at Highlands Police Station and the investigations to bring these criminals to book are underway.
“The Chairperson, Ms Samukeliso Khumalo is also going to set an investigation committee shortly after her return from South Africa.Meanwhile CIZC will circulate a report on its recent visit to the AU meeting in Sandton; South Africa, last week.CIZC was represented by Incoming Acting Director, Nixon Nyikadzino, Board Chairperson, Samukeliso Khumalo and Mfundo Mlilo, the Spokesperson.
“Please note that the Coalition will not be deterred by any form of disturbances. Issued by Mfundo Mlilo on the 13th of June 2015329 Samora Machel.”
Mnangagwa Exposed As A Lying Devil As Zimbabwe Faces Mass Starvation
As Zimbabwe faces mass starvation, Acting President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been left with an egg on his face after it emerged he lied when he claimed that no one in the country would starve and that government had purchased enough grain and other foods to feed every person in the country.
During bi election campaign rallies early June, Mnangagwa told Zimbabweans the country was well resourced on food aid and that no one would starve. He even claimed that government had paid every dime needed to cover for a whole year.
But he yesterday exposed himself when he admitted at least $300 million is still required to import food due to the poor harvest that was recorded during the 2014-15 season. The government does not have even a fraction of that money, Mnangagwa humiliated himself revealing.
Speaking during the official launch of the Zimbabwe Zero Hunger Strategic Review Report yesterday, Mnangagwa said Government was sourcing the funds from different stakeholders to assist the drought affected areas.
“Approximately $300 million is required to import food to cover the deficit and see us through to the next harvest, hoping that it will be significantly better than the current one,” he said.
“While we need 1,4 million tonnes of maize a year for consumption, our produce for the 2014-15 season has gone down by approximately 49 percent.
“I am therefore calling upon all our partners, from development agencies and the private sector, to assist us in providing the necessary resources to ensure that none of the communities nationwide is exposed to hunger and starvation.”
The Zimbabwe Zero Hunger Strategic Review Plan, which was produced by the World Food Programme, is aimed at reducing food shortages in the country.
The objective of the review report was to establish a comprehensive understanding of the context and status regarding food and nutrition security and facilitate development of a national zero hunger roadmap.
The report reviews relevant statutes, protocols and frameworks at national, regional and global level that underpin Zimbabwe’s response to food and nutrition security.
“I am encouraged by the observation from the review that the country has a conducive policy environment and has put adequate structures to address food and nutrition security,” said the Acting President.
“All we need to do then is follow up with carefully crafted monitoring and evaluation plans to ensure an implementation process that leads to observable results.”
Mnangagwa said the initiative by the World Food Programme was capable of enhancing community resilience through diversified agricultural production.
“The initiative integrates principles of sustainable land management, gender main streaming and food security,” he said.
The launch of the report was running under the theme: “A Zimbabwe free from hunger and malnutrition”.
Cuthbert Dube Axes 8 ZIFA Board Members
ZIFA Board President Cuthbert Dube has suspended eight board members and councillors in a move interpreted as revenge for a vote of no confidence that was passed on him last month.
In a board meeting held today at the ZIFA Village in Mt Hampden, Dube suspended his deputy, Omega Sibanda, Northern Region Secretary General Sweeney Mushonga, Benard Gwarada, Willard Manyengavana, Elizabeth Langa, Musa Mandaza, Piraishe Mabhena, Dennis Chuma and Felton Kamambo.
Mushonga confirmed that he has been suspended.
Last month, ZIFA councillors passed a vote of no confidence in Dube but FIFA told them to hold an extra-ordinary congress within 60 days to validate their process.
Some ZIFA councillors, who spoke to the ZBC News, however said since then, Dube and ZIFA CEO, Jonathan Mashingaidze have been out to revenge the move by victimising all those who were involved in the coup.
It is not clear how valid is Dube’s decision as the ZIFA constitution has been tempered with and its clauses are no longer clear.
Dube and Mashingaidze allegedly want to move the annual general meeting to some time in August to buy time to reorganise and clean up the ZIFA Council.
Robber Demands to Know HIV Status Before Raping Woman
A BULAWAYO man broke into a house in Nkulumane suburb and demanded to know a woman’s HIV status before wearing a condom and raping her, a court has heard.
Talent Chakanyuka, 35, allegedly threatened to kill the victim, 21, if she resisted or told anyone afterwards. He went on to raid groceries from the house. Chakanyuka appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze charged with unlawful entry, theft and rape.
He was remanded in custody to June 25 before being advised to apply for bail at the High court. “You’re advised to apply for bail at the High court because this court doesn’t have the power to grant you bail,” said Msipa-Marondedze.
Prosecuting Mufaro Mageza, said on June 8 this year at around 9PM, the woman locked the doors, windows and switched off the lights before retiring to bed.
“At around 3AM Chakanyuka cut the burglar bars to gain entry through a window. The complainant woke up to find him standing over her, holding a knife and a torch,” said Mageza.
The prosecutor said the victim told Chakanyuka she was HIV positive.
Mageza said Chakanyuka told the woman that he could not have sexual intercourse with an HIV infected woman. The court heard that Chakanyuka reached for a condom that was in his pocket, put it on and raped the woman once.
He threatened the woman with death if she screamed, said Mageza. He said Chakanyuka then robbed the woman of R100 and asked her why she stayed alone. “He went to the kitchen where he stole groceries that included flour, body lotion and macaroni,” said Mageza.
He told the court that the next day the victim was walking in her neighbourhood with her cousin when she saw Chakanyuka at his house. She reported the matter at Nkulumane Police Station leading to Chakanyuka’s arrest.- Chronicle
CIOs Killing President Mugabe
Shrewd Central Intelligence, security Agents and personal aides to President Robert Mugabe are murdering the Head of State. The officers who are on full payroll have subjected the elderly statesman to abusive pressure beyond any human being can bear, experts charge citing latest disturbing footage from Mugabe’s AU Summit in South Africa where the 91 year old was filmed struggling to lift one leg over a single step.
Although President Mugabe recently complained of struggles with his health in particular his sleep routine, aides have watched him physically deteriorate but still pushing him forward. “All those security guys are doing this for their selfish benefit knowing Gushungo will be gone very soon, and pushing him to the limits only serves them to sustain their cash pots,” commented political analyst Herbert Juma. He spoke over a recent medical paper combining results of different studies over the last 50 years, which has found that spending too long at work resulted in a 40 to 80 percent greater chance of heart disease compared to an eight hour work day.
“Under these conditions President Mugabe will be dead in 3 months’ time,” he added.
The latest findings discovered by scientists at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health support results from a 2011 survey that revealed that doing more than 11 hours of work a day raised heart disease risks by 67 percent. Lead researcher Dr. Marianna Virtanen and her team gathered data from 12 different studies going back to 1958, when researchers first suggested that working long hours could be linked to poor heart health. In total, the studies involved more than 22,000 participants, from Britain, the USA, Japan, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and the Netherlands.
Mujuru Died A Pauper, Cashless and Dejected
In a stunning revelation likely to stump the enemies of ex-Vice President Joice Mujuru, the executor of her late husband Solomon Mujuru’s estate says it is in debt to the tune of $2 million-plus.
This also comes amid reports that the ex-liberation fighter’s family has not been involved in the administration of the estate and in a development, which also dampens claims that the popular politician had a multi-billion dollar fortune.
According to an interim report by the estate’s executor Stern Mufara, Mujuru’s “most prized asset” was his Hogerty Hill matrimonial home — worth $350 000 — and which he shared with his widow Joice, the former Zanu PF and national vice president.
“I advise that we are attending to evaluations. I shall soon be meeting to discuss the affairs of this estate with a view to file the first interim administration and distribution account,” the Nyika, Kanengoni & Partners (NKP) staffer wrote to the High Court master on June 12.
Apart from the Borrowdale property, Mujuru’s other listed assets include interests in publicly-traded and private companies as well as immovable properties in, and around the capital worth an estimated $1,5 to $2 million.
While the report lists a parcel of one million African Sun shares, a paltry 22 in Merzig Enterprises, 391 Ruwa Golf Resort Holdings shares, 4 430 in Zimbabwe Motor Assemblers and Distributors, and shares in Oriel Pharmacy, some of his immovable assets were given as a Marondera house valued at $100 000, a Bindura stand worth $80 000, livestock and farm equipment at Ruzambo Farm, which is yet to be valued.
“My second report, and hopefully my last, will deal with the remainder of the property after compilation of the inventory viz-a-viz the movable property at Ruzambu… and Rylance,” Mufara said.
Mujuru’s holdings also included a stand in Shamva, Warren Park and a flat at the rundown Gail Court in Harare’s Samora Machel Avenue. In the meantime, Mufara’s listings also include a 100 percent share in Kalmic Investments, Kumirinje Farms, Rylance, Kuphikile Resources (Kuphikile) and Thurlow & Company (Thurlow), although the latter two have long ceased to operate.
While Kuphikile — a 50 percent joint venture with Tirivanhu Mudariki — was a minority shareholder in liquidated River Ranch Mines, Thurlow was a retail operator, which was closed in the 80s. And with Ruzambu registered under Joice’s name in terms of its 99 year lease, and claims against the estate — from Agribank, Hanagwe (Private) Limited and others — mounting, it is likely that the Beatrice farm will also be inherited by the former VP and just as it cannot form part of the estate.
Like the Mashonaland East farm, most of the property — about 50 percent of the estate — will be taken by the beleaguered widow, as this is in accordance with the marriage law. Under Zimbabwean laws, heroes are also exempt from paying tax, so the debt-ridden estate is safe from that front.
While a Ruwa joint Plaka Tarven had been listed among Mujuru’s assets, it turns out that it was jointly run by Zimbabwe Prison Services boss Paradzai Zimondi under a lease.
Amid suggestions that the liberation struggle stalwart had amassed a multi-billion dollar fortune in the region of $9 to $25 billion, the current findings — if not numbers — have shown that the late General was a man of modest means.
Like Mujuru himself, the handling of his estate has been marked by serious controversy around the number of likely beneficiaries — given his alleged brood — and the choice of executors, especially given that NKP’s forerunner George Chikumbirike & Associates used to do some work for one of Zanu PF’s top leaders.
While the anti-Joice Mujuru lobby was hoping to use the issue of Solomon Mujuru’s estate to galvanise the view that the Mujurus were corrupt, Mufara’s report has stumped many as the figures are diametrically at odds with the loose talk within the ruling party. daily news
Zim Cricket Team Allegedly “Bribed” In Pakistan
Zimbabwe’s Cricket team has been accused of receiving bribes from Pakistan leading to its failure to beat that nation’s team two weeks ago.
AFP|Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has rubbished allegations that they bribed the Zimbabwean cricketers to tour Pakistan for a short limited over series, last month.
Khan said on Friday that while it had paid around $5,00,000 to Zimbabwe cricket to cover their expenses for the tour but it was unfortunate there had been talk about players being bribed to tour Pakistan.
“That is not true as the tour was approved by both boards and just yesterday our Prime Minister sent a message of thanks to the Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe for allowing his team to tour Pakistan,” Khan scotched the rumours.
“In such a scenario, there is no question of bribing players,” he added.
Zimbabwe was the first Test side to tour Pakistan in six years after other boards refused to send their teams because of security concerns following the militants attack on the Sri Lankan team in March 2009 in Lahore.
The Zimbabwe tour was a spectacular success as the two T20 matches and three ODIs drew full houses and Khan said the board had also ended up making profits.
“The response of the people was enough for us and vindicated our stance that international cricket needs to be revived in Pakistan,” the PCB chief said.
Pakistan Cricket chief Shahryar Khan on Tuesday confirmed that a deal was struck with Zimbabwe but rubbished claims that the African side was “bribed” into touring Pakistan.
A reliable source in the board told PTI that of the total amount given by the PCB to Zimbabwe cricket they had paid their players $12,500 each.
Khan also made it clear that since the Zimbabwe tour was not part of the future tours program and a one-off engagement in future the PCB had no intention to make concessions for touring teams.
“The tour by Zimbabwe was an exception as we were keen to host an international and in return we will tour there in August,” he said.
He said basically the series was on bilateral terms.
“We are making every effort to revive proper international cricket in Pakistan and we have approached other boards after the Zimbabwe team’s visit to send their teams to our country as we capable of providing them the best security,” Khan added.
“The visit by Zimbabwe has given us confidence and we will build on the success of the tour. I am sure lot of perceptions about playing in Pakistan will have changed after this tour,” he said.
“The Zimbabwe players told us they had not received such a rousing welcome anywhere before in any country and the series was also played in a secure and stable environment what more can we ask for,” he said.
Khan conceded that the board was now more confident about organizing the Pakistan Super League T20 early next year and also in inviting other teams. — AFP
President Bashir On The Run, Secretly Escapes Police Arrest
The Sudanese President, General Omar al Bashir, who was in South Africa attending the 25th African Union summit escaped police arrest by a whisker managing to secretly lift off into the air for his country in the wee hours of Monday morning.
General Bashir’s arrival in South Africa on Friday opened a police case after him with calls for his immediate arrest and handing over to the International Criminal Court for his various crimes against humanity.
South Africa is a signatory of the ICC.
His spokesperson, Hussein Kashumi, confirmed that Bashir left Monday morning.
South African authorities have said Bashir is a guest of the African Union, whose stance against the ICC is well known.
Robert Mugabe has through the AU repeatedly labeled the ICC as racist and anti-African. He said the continental body will not cooperate with the ICC.
The ruling by a South African judge, Hans Fabricuis had been made that Bashir should not leave the country until a hearing to determine his fate has been held.
There was confusion Monday morning with some reports suggesting that General al Bashir had already left South Africa, while others said he was still around.
The State Media claimed Monday that any attempt to arrest al Bashir could have turned at South Africa’s image on the African scene, especially after it voted together with Nigeria and Gabon for the Security Council to intervene in Libya. The decision saw the invasion of that country and the subsequent death of Col Muammar Gaddafi.

UK-Breakthrough Zimbabwean Lady Invents World’s First Odour-Free Dog Bed
Birmingham Post|A ZIMBABWEAN woman forced to flee Robert Mugabe’s terror together with her family after thugs beat their neighbours, has found a new life in Birmingham as she invented the world’s first anti-odour dog bed.
Sian Lenegan found herself in the UK after her father Owen had to suddenly close his engineering factory in Bulawayo, putting 200 people out of work, after Mugabe’s henchmen targeted white industrialists.
They fled with only a few personal possessions and ended up in South Wales where her father got a job as a contractor, working nights at Tesco to help make ends meet.
Rather than return to her strife-torn homeland, Sian also moved to Britain after leaving university in South Africa – and is now helping pioneer a UK first in pet and household hygiene through anti-bacterial treatment Micro-Fresh.
In conjunction with Leicester entrepreneur Byron Dixon, Sian has launched a new company, Snouts and Pouts, making anti-odour dog beds for hygiene-conscious pet lovers. The pair came up with the unique venture after meeting on a Goldman Sachs small business programme at Aston University.
She said: “I love Zimbabwe but left in 2003. We had British passports but we couldn’t stay in the country that we were born in. It was not safe to stay.
“My parents had to leave very quickly. My father had a 40,000 sq ft factory where he manufactured air conditioners and ventilation units. He had that business for 22 years.
“The factory three doors down was taken by Mugabe’s people and the white owners were held in a room and beaten for four days. Dad closing down the factory in Bulawayo put 200 people out of work. I was at university at the time.
“We had Zimbabwean passports and British passports. The Government said you cannot have both. We kept our British passports, and they said, ‘You have chosen.’
“I would not have left. It was home. It was everything I knew, but I have not been back there for 13 years.
Sian eventually got a job as a paralegal in Cardiff, proof-reading legal documents, but got her big break when she landed a nine-month placement with a company in Exeter, working on direct marketing campaigns.
“I went to work for one of my clients, Bray Leino, in Devon, the largest advertising and digital agency in the UK. That is when I moved into digital marketing.
“I worked there for three years near Barnstaple. My husband is in the Royal Marines and we were stationed in Shropshire at Market Drayton. I always knew that I was going to have my own business and I started it from my own home, offering digital and web-design services.
“It was very hard work back in 2009. After nine months, I got my first studio in Digbeth in Birmingham. I knew I needed to be in the city. I needed an office location and we moved into St Paul’s Square.
“In 2012, we started on the Goldman Sachs programme and we had our best period of growth. The programme was really tough, like a Dragons’ Den interrogation.
“The biggest thing from Goldman Sachs was that previously I had been doing it on my own, I was too detached. I realised that having support and building networks around me was key.
“Now, we are a team of six. We have been in St Paul’s Square since 2012 and we have a turnover of £250,000.
“We have in excess of 100 clients, we work with blue chip brands such as e-Bay, Virgin Atlantic and Coca Cola.”
Fresh scent of success
The world’s first odour-free dog bed was born after Sian and Byron Dixon met at Aston University in 2012 on the Goldman Sachs programme.
Dixon had launched his own business from home after leaving a jet-set sales job in Denmark with Ecco Shoes, where he regularly travelled all over the world.
“I loved it and travelling sounds great but it was really tiring. You would go to Scandinavia and the next day you would get a message to say you have to go to Brazil.
“I decided to set up my own business, Corium Solutions, a supplier of finishes for leather, footwear, upholstery and handbags, working from my home in Leicester. I knew I was taking a risk, I was working from my bedroom.
“I wanted freedom and I was prepared to put in the shifts. You get rejected. I had no orders for two years. I just kept going and I eventually had a trickle of orders.”
In 2006 Byron’s business career was transformed when he came up with Micro-Fresh, an anti-bacterial treatment.
“It stops microorganisms growing. It stops all those nasties, from MRSA to E-coli, Listeria and Salmonella. We did the trials, and it worked, it stopped things from smelling.”

Billions Buried On Top of Zimbabwe’s Soils | EXCLUSIVE
- $13,000 idle cash
- Fertilizer not needed
- No sweating, no tilling, the plough not needed
- Ordinary Zimbos can now become millionaires
- Prosperity Gospel not needed in Africa
There are billions of dollars lying flat on top of Zimbabwe’s soils, ZimEye can reveal. Farming philanthropist and Zimbabwean scientific innovator Brian Oldrieve proves beyond doubt the lowest unschooled citizen can have bumper harvests from nowhere and stack annual savings of at least $13,000 idle cash.
The average Zimbabwean can make a cash yield 400% more from the soil better than the average commercial farmer without any tilling whatsoever, while altogether avoiding expensives like fertilizer.
Under this method the most inexperienced Zimbabwean farmer with the smallest plot of a few acres can have annual savings of $13,000 idle cash meaning no one in the whole country will be left poor.
Ordinary Zimbos can now become millionaires
ZimEye.com can reveal that government is squandering hundreds of thousands of dollars buying fertilizer and other expensive implements to dish out to land reform beneficiaries at a time Oldrieve’s method proves none of that is necessary. Oldrieve’s innovation which has to date been bought into by more than 29 countries of the world, is the most effortless farming technique on earth and yet produces up to 400% in produce. Also dubbed ‘Zero Tillage’, the farmer’s innovation is a sure cost-effective approach which has seen some farmers getting 16 tonnes per hectare maize yields. The average commercial farmer produces a little over 4 tonnes per hectare in maize produce. The development effectively means most ordinary Zimbabweans can now become a millionaires if they put their hearts into it in the country which in 1976 while under international sanctions, rose to become number (4) four world-over in food production [SEE – The White Farmers of Zimbabwe [HISTORICAL].
Oldrieve argues that Africa has been robbed by preachers who have adopted what he calls the American Gospel which burdens people to pay preachers money before God can ever bless them. The US Prosperity Gospel has robbed Africa, he told ZimEye.com arguing[ SEE – US Prosperity Gospel robbing Africa.
The man who has obtained fame and recognition from universities worldwide through the groundbreaking scientific method he says God taught him while reading the Bible, said that Africa has enough natural resources to both feed itself and compete with the rest of the world, and the continent does not need any aid from Western Countries. After he gave up a lucrative tobacco farming enterprise in 1982, he was convinced that he had been farming a crop produce that was detrimental to people’s health. He would soon become a darling of the world and lecture to professors while not having a single university degree.
He told ZimEye.com he is “not at all” bitter about losing his farm during Robert Mugabe’s violent land reform program.
He said he recognises the land belongs to God and not to any individual:
“I mean we had our farm taken and I suppose our normal livelihood… but we are not bitter at all because first of all we are Christians and we believe that God gives and He takes away. The land belongs to God and He will chose whoever He wants to be stewards of that…We submit to God’s wisdom and greater knowledge on that.”
Oldrieve added that land reform was bound to happen:
“We are not bitter at all because actually the transition had to happen; Sure it wasn’t done in a very good way, but it’s also helped us now to teach full time; and so from having a farm in Africa, now we farm Africa; we have been called to 28 countries in Africa to teach and to create a model within Zimbabwe. We are very grateful for this amazing opportunity to concentrate on what we do now. In fact we helped the very people who took our land,” he said.
ZimEye.com profiles several farmers within Zimbabwe who are benefiting from Oldrieve’s free expertise as they make their fortunes. [SEE THE CASE STUDY BELOW]
The government realising his potential swallowing their pride gave him a job and a small plot on the outskirts of Mt Hampden, Harare where he trains black Zimbabweans for free. Zimbabweans wishing to train under the program can contact Oldrieve through his website, Foundations For Farming,(click here to go to the website).
Case study – VILLAGE TRANSFORMATION
Like any of the 300,000 young people leaving school each year in rural Zimbabwe, Themba had very few prospects. He heard about Ebenezer College in Kezi where young people like him learn conservation farming principles from a friend. He applied, and was happy to be part of the very first intake with other young people from nearby villages.
In addition to the training, as required Themba did 6hrs of voluntary community service in his village each week. For probably the first time he started to see other people’s needs, and with his 6 friends at Ebenezer they started to discuss what they can do. One of the guys paid fees for local aids orphans – at US1 each, this was not a lot. Someone else wanted to help former classmates who now spent their time drinking local beer and hanging about. Themba felt he needed to assist in the local church and he approached the pastor who was very happy to receive help. Soon he had extra responsibility at church and his mentor noted quietly that Themba had lengthened his working day to enable him to earn more and serve the community better. He duly agreed to extend Themba’s plot to allow him to increase production.
At Themba’s exit interview from Ebenezer his tutor wrote of the huge vision of the young man who now wanted a whole lot more than just to assist his father to feed the family. Not long after Themba went back home, the local chief approached Ebenezer College and asked if he could bring all the local young men in his ward to Ebenezer. His words were particularly encouraging, he said ‘for many years I have been approached by outsiders wanting to implement one project or another. Our people have become used to this, and some have even come to expect such assistance. But when our own children start to look after aids orphans and give freely to the widows, then the village takes note. Even those who are used to asking for help are challenged and start to do some work for themselves’
What has been achieved using conservation farming?
First time farmers have achieved yields of 3tonnes per ha – a tenfold increase on our present production of less than 0.3t/ha. Experienced farmers have achieved anything up to 9t/ha. The research centre at Westgate has reached 16t/ha.
Consider that what the word calls a green revolution is an achievement of 3t/ha, consider that Zimbabwe’s annual grain yields are 2million t/ha – all it would take for the nation to feed itself is less than a million rural farmers adopting conservation farming. Consider that Zimbabwe is a Christian nation, and if on the 26th of September a million Christians buy in to this method of farming, our future looks bright. – By Na Ncube.

SCAM: Police Rope In Ex Air Zim Boss
Newsday|POLICE detectives investigating the Air Zimbabwe $10 million fleet insurance fraud have reportedly roped in the airline’s jailed former executive Grace Pfumbidzayi and senior official Maxwell Madziwa to turn them into State witnesses to testify against Transport ministry secretary Munesu Munodawafa.
Munodawafa is currently on $1 000 bail following his arrest in April after he was linked to the alleged scam.
Sources close to the matter confirmed that Pfumbidzai (former AirZim legal secretary) and Madziwa (former human resources manager) were called in by the Serious Frauds Squad for interviews in the last couple of weeks. Pfumbidzai, who is serving a seven-year jail sentence at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison, was summoned to assist police with investigations.
“The calling of Pfumbidzai by Serious Frauds Squad is in connection with the investigation of Munodawafa and they are hoping to bring her as a witness in the matter,” the source said.
Pfumbidzai’s lawyer Andrew Muvirimi was not immediately available for comment. Muvirimi is still trying to get his client out on bail pending appeal against both conviction and sentence at the High Court.
Madziwa who is alleged to be part of the top brass that was involved in signing some of the payments to Navistar Insurance was also summoned to give a statement and possible appearance in court as a witness.
Madziwa’s lawyer Donald Sibanda told NewsDay his client had attended a meeting at the Serious Frauds Squad offices, but declined to speak in detail on the matter. National police spokesman Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba could not be reached for comment yesterday.-Newsday
Dzamara Attacks Pastors, Says They’re Just “For Richies”
Abducted civic rights activist Itai Dzamara’s brother Patson has opened fire on all church pastors saying they are out for riches.
Soon attracting a backlash from Christians left right and centre, he said this as he complained that pastors he invited to the weekend Dzamara prayer meeting were out just to make money using his brother’s name. He named for instance one specific pastor he had deployed to organise police clearance for the Saturday function.
He wrote, “as far as my knowledge is concerned, The Pastors Fellowship of Zimbabwe representing the church was invited to the table but it appears as if they are seeking to posit that the prayer initiative was their brainchild.
“That is not correct. Through the help of well wishers in the civic society, as a family we have been hosting prayer meetings for Itai Dzamara on a monthly basis since his disappearance and that is public knowledge.
“Its unfortunate and curious that of all the prayer meetings we have hosted as a family, The Pastors Fellowship of Zimbabwe never showed up. Neither were they a part of the process. In fact most church leaders never came through to pray with us because they are afraid to be marked by the authorities and eventually missing out on what they love the most, richies.”
His comments drew an artillery from furious Zimbabweans some who began challenging his educational credentials being the doctorate he displays as “Dr.”
Wrote news columnist Ndaba Nhuku, “this should be worrying. Maybe Patson Dzamara needs to find a neutral family spokesperson who will handle these concerns to avoid creating enemies. I see statements like this presenting future problems. Parson needs to not be reminded that many political players have been taking advantage of Itai’s case; and he never issued a statement against them. Something is amiss here. We also don’t see the explanation on how these guys were financially going to benefit from this prayer. It seems something is not in order.”
Another Zimbo Denzel Nkhata weighed in saying “I once read somewhere pakanzi Dr Patson Dzamara.. but I now wonder…is this guy a doctor?#
“Minus the boring vain repetitions in his statement , a doctor cannot lack fore sight to such an extent neither can he be so dumb as to claim to be issuing such rubbish on behalf of the whole Dzamara family.”
One networker named as “Sacha Forest” also poured her fury saying, “Patson ane mawara, speedy mupfana uyu, accusing all and sundry, haasiriye here who was attending leadership conferences with the likes of Kasukuwere and Chiyangwa, takamubvunza kuti ndeipi ? he mouthed off, hezvoka.”
Zimbabwe Tops The World in Mobile Innovation Boom”
You’ve got a phone – big deal. You’ve got a smartphone- big deal. There’s nothing new here, it’s actually reckoned that there are more SIM cards in Zimbabwe than there are Zimbabweans.
It’s all about unlocking the value of your devices, and a lot of data suggests that Zimbabweans have really cracked getting the most out of theirs. New findings suggest that Zimbabweans are avid users of mobile technology – especially when it comes to connecting with friends and family.
While mobile payments – the likes of Apple Pay and Google Wallet – have been massively overhyped in the United States, Zimbabweans show how it’s done with Mobile Money: 78% of adults have sent money with their phone, 67% have received money on their phone. More than five million Zimbabweans have a Mobile Money accountthat’s more than the number of bank accounts in the whole country. Now think about the fact that even in America people still accept hand-written cheques for payments.
It’s no surprise that for many of those who left Zimbabwe, keeping in touch with close ones at home has become ever-more important. The volume of international phone calls into Zimbabwe grew by 10% in Q3 of last year. Estimates suggest that Zimbabweans in the diaspora racked up 60 million minutes, or 1 million hours, of international phone calls to friends and family at home in 2014. Not to mention all the millions of minutes racked up on Skype, Viber, or other VOIP services.
The same goes for receiving money from abroad. Zimbabweans make up one of the largest and most vibrant diaspora communities in the world. More than three million Zimbabweans live outside their home country; many of them are in the United Kingdom and in South Africa. And they are already sending money directly to mobile wallets at home, instead of the more traditional cash-pick up options. Alix Murphy, Senior Mobile Analyst at WorldRemit, said: “Our Zimbabwean customers are at the forefront of the mobile revolution. More than 70 per cent of them already send money to EcoCash’s mobile wallet, and around 40 per cent of them already use the WorldRemit app to make a transfer.”
Ms. Murphy confirmed Zimbabweans in the diaspora have been among the fastest adopters of new iOS and Android money transfer apps: “While everyone looks to Kenya as the leader in mobile money transfers, in fact, when it comes to sending money from mobiles, Zimbabweans have been almost twice as eager to use an app to make a transfer.”
This shouldn’t be surprising, and is paralleled by the success of smartphone adoption and mobile broadband subscriptions at home in Zimbabwe. If it’s any indication, network provider EcoNet alone reported a 42 per growth in mobile broadband revenue in February 2015. Estimates suggest that today, 1 in 5 Zimbabweans owns a smartphone.
While in the US, much of the mobile payments hype has been around paying for a Starbucks coffee with your phone, Zimbabwe leads the way with truly sustainable mobile financial services. Mobile wallets, such as EcoCash, are increasingly offering add-on services for m-insurance, bill payment, or m-commerce, especially through their mobile apps. Remittance services such as WorldRemit, which already send more than 60% of all transactions to EcoCash, play a key role in connecting the Zimbabwean diaspora with the Mobile Money ecosystem at home.
The trends are clear: Zimbabweans transfer money on mobiles. Mobile Money remittances to Zimbabwe are going up. Phone calls from abroad are going up. Zimbabwean smartphone subscriptions are going up. Mobile Money add-on services are growing. Mobile broadband is exploding. In short – Zimbabweans are Africa’s true mobile champions.
Mugabe Humiliates Nigeria and South Africa
Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe laid into Nigerian and South Africa saying Africa would never agree to them getting permanent seats on the UN Security Council.
This Mugabe said was because they had both voted for UN Security Council Resolution 1973 in 2011, which authorised military action against the regime of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi. They had betrayed the continent which could never trust them, sources reported him as saying.
Mugabe intervened in a meeting of the so-called “Committee of 10” at the summit on Saturday which was discussing possible amendments to the “Ezulwini Consensus” which stated Africa’s position on reform of the UN Security Council.
The 2005 Ezulwini Consensus was that Africa should demand at least two permanent and five non-permanent seats on the council as part of the protracted, wider reform to make it more representative of the world.
The consensus also demanded that the two permanent seats should come with the same veto powers as were enjoyed by the five current permanent members, the US, UK, China, Russia and France.
This demand for vetoes had effectively stymied Africa’s chances of reforming the council. And so the South African government was calling for Africa to adopt a more flexible approach by dropping the veto demand.
This was what the so-called G4 group of nations – Germany, Japan, India and Brazil – who were also seeking permanent seats on the council had done, as a tactical manoeuvre to try to diminish resistance to their bid.
Last year South African President Jacob Zuma said: “Africa needs to compromise – not reiterate fixed positions as it has done for the past nine years.”
And he organised a retreat of African Foreign Ministers in February 2014 to review the Ezulwini Consensus.
South Africa also intended to raise it in the Committee of 10 meeting here on Saturday. The Committee of 10 was appointed by the AU many years ago to pursue the UN Security Council reform.
But one regional official who was in the meeting said he believed that Mugabe’s attack on South Africa and Nigeria had seriously damaged South Africa’s case for reviewing the Ezulwini Consensus.
The official said Mugabe had not mentioned the two countries by name. But it was clear to all in the room who he was referring to as he referred to African governments who had been on the UN Security Council when Resolution 1973 on Libya was adopted in 2011.
South Africa and Nigeria were both on the council at the time, occupying two of the ten, non-permanent, two-year seats. South Africa’s vote for Resolution 1973 was highly controversial even within South Africa. But the South African government justified it on the grounds that a foreign military intervention was necessary to prevent Gaddafi’s forces slaughtering his opponents in their Benghazi stronghold, as he threatened to do.
Pretoria later condemned the Nato-led military coalition for going beyond the mandate which was to protect civilians, by helping rebels overthrow Gaddafi.
But South Africa suspects that countries like Zimbabwe are avoiding review of the Ezulwini Consensus and insisting on a hardline, maximalist position on UN Security Council reform because they don’t want bigger African countries like South Africa and Nigeria to get permanent seats on the council.-IOL
Sudan’s Bashir set to Exit South Africa Immediately
IOL|Sources have confirmed that the South African government and Sudanese president Omar el Bashir have struck a deal, allowing the alleged war criminal to leave the country on Sunday night.
IOL understands that Bashir will leave tonight despite a court order banning him from leaving.
The State will proceed to court On Monday to argue against the injunction arguing that they were not able to intercede at ALL border posts given the short notice. This “deal” allows the SA government to play within the rules without losing face politically on a continental stage.
Earlier, the government came out in support of the embattled Bashir as the alleged war criminal prepared to leave the country.
SA’s Minister of Justice Michael Masuta said there was no way authorities would arrest Bashir even if the government had to fight the arrest order in the courts. But on Sunday sources confirmed that he would be leaving the country as soon as possible.
Late on Sunday night it was still unclear if Bashir had left the country but all indications were that South Africa was prepared to defy the ICC, international convention and a high court order and let Bashir leave the country’s shores unhindered – if he so wished. It would mean Bashir leaving in his wake major constitutional and diplomatic crises and a big question mark over South Africa’s continued membership of the ICC.
The African National Congress’ National Executive Committee (NEC) had earlier on Sunday sent an ominous signal when it said the ICC was “no longer useful for the purposes for which it was intended”.
The ICC has two open warrants of arrest for Bashir whom it indicted for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity against the people of Sudan’s western Darfur province.
As a member of the ICC, South Africa is obliged to arrest him and has in the past issued its own warrants for his arrest.
On Sunday, the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC), a rule of law advocacy group, applied to the Pretoria High Court to issue an order instructing South African authorities to execute the arrest warrants against him.
A number of South African officials, foreign diplomats, and analysts at the African Union (AU), which Bashir was attending, said they believed that he would leave later on Sunday night to pre-empt a possible order from the High Court for the police to arrest him.
However, Sudanese foreign minister Ibrahim Ghandour insisted on Sunday night that Bashir would only leave at the end of the summit.
Judge Hans Fabricius was due to rule in court on Monday on whether or not the South African authorities should be compelled to arrest Bashir. The case was postponed from Sunday to allow the government to respond to an application by the SALC for the court order for the arrest, but not before Fabricius issued an interim order to border authorities in the department of home affairs to prevent Bashir leaving South Africa until he had delivered his judgement on whether or not he should be arrested.
Bashir had appeared at the AU summit earlier on Sunday and was included in the group photograph of the African leaders, and he was photographed in the hall at the start of the opening ceremony.
But some reporters were later told by Sudanese government officials that he had left the country. One of them noted that the government had said in the Pretoria hearing that it did not have the resources to monitor all exit points from the country.
This appeared to indicate that the South African government was preparing to explain that Bashir had fled the country without its knowledge. That would be its way of ducking an accusation that it had flouted its obligation to the ICC to arrest Bashir who landed at Waterkloof airforce base in Pretoria on Saturday night.
But Anton du Plessis, executive director of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) in Pretoria, said this would be a poor excuse. “They know where he came in so they must know where he would leave from,” he said.
Nonetheless, he said he was sure that Bashir had already left or would leave the country before the court issued its judgement. “And South Africa will have to say ‘We didn’t know he was leaving’.”
South African home affairs officials and perhaps even the home affairs minister would nonetheless be held in contempt of court for failing to prevent him leaving. And South Africa would have flouted its obligations not only to the UN and the ICC, but to South African national law, as South Africa had absorbed the ICC into its own ICC Implementation Act.
“South Africa can’t really get out of this mess. So the next logical step would be for South Africa to withdraw from the court or indicate that it would do so,” du Plessis said.
And it was not a good sign that the ANC NEC had said that the ICC was no longer a useful institution
Du Plessis said he was also concerned that the AU, which already had a policy instructing its member states not to cooperate with the ICC, might decide on a mass walkout from the ICC at this summit.
But, he said he had seen a draft copy of the summit resolution on the ICC which did not go that far. Instead it repeated the existing policy of not cooperating with the ICC and calling for the deferment of cases against sitting presidents, like Bashir.
Du Plessis said he thought that some pro-ICC countries such as Botswana and Senegal had pushed back against moves by other countries for the AU to pull out en masse from the ICC.
On Friday the South African government had asked the ICC for an exemption from its obligation, on the grounds that Bashir enjoyed immunity from prosecution as he was attending an AU summit, and was therefore in the country as a guest of the AU and not South Africa.
The ICC firmly rejected the request from South Africa which placed the AU host country firmly between a rock and a hard place with its ICC obligations and international standing on the one side, and its sense of duty and brotherhood with the rest of Africa on the other.
Already this weekend South Africa, along with Nigeria, found itself in the firing line from Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe who bluntly stated that those two countries would never get the backing from the rest of Africa for permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council because of their controversial vote on the UN Security Council Resolution 1973 in 2011, which authorised military action against the regime of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi. Reports from the AU summit have it that Mugabe accused South Africa and Nigeria of betraying the continent and that they could never be trusted.
On Sunday Judge Fabricius postponed arguments relating to the arrest of Bashir to Monday morning at the request of the State’s attorneys who said they needed further time to draw up arguments against the arrest of the Sudanese president.
State attorney Michael Mokhari told the court that he had not been given enough time to peruse the applicant’s documents, saying the matter was too sensitive to be dealt with in a few hours.
“It has not been practical to get instruction from all officials, including ministers, for proper perspective on the state’s approach,” he said.
Twice before, in the run-up to President Jacob Zuma’s inauguration in 2009 and before the World Cup in 2010, the South African government had warned that if Bashir arrived for these events, it would be obliged to arrest him under its ICC obligations.
But this, the 25th AU summit is different and it has thrown up a diplomatic hot potato that South Africa could have done without. In hindsight it would probably have been best for everyone concerned if Bashir had opted to stay at home, but whatever road South African now embarks upon, one thing is clear, there will be a price to pay.-IOL
Mnangagwa Family Leaks Embarrassing Video
–Mnangagwa family speaks out–
Close family members in Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s family unit intentionally leaked embarrassing video footage of the 12 year old UK based grandson who is filmed cursing his mother, ZimEye.com can reveal.
ZimEye is reliably told of the whole plot against the boy’s mother which continued at the weekend as the several family members suddenly became increasing friendly in the last few days .
The development comes after the two week fiasco after the video of the lad hurling unprintable insults at his mother, many say show an extremely difficult family environ.
“There are two people we know of a certain did this,” a family senior told ZimEye.com.
“It is very unfair and really shocking that someone would do such a thing. The boy has a health condition, an illness and this is well known to family members,” the elderly woman who cannot be named said.
ZimEye.com in the upcoming days pursues to reveal and expose the names of the two who have violated the family and ubuntu ethics by causing the lad to come under vicious ridicule and abuse from the public.
Dzamara Rally NOT BANNED
DZAMARA FAMILY STATEMENT OVER ITAI DZAMARA PRAYER POSTPONEMENT
*Prayer was not cancelled. It was just postponed.
*Our religion is indeed diluted.
* We still hold on to hope.
As a result of the postponement of Itai Dzamara’s prayer we feel it is expedient to categorically set the record straight.
As a family, we wish to inform the nation that the prayer process for our missing family member is our initiative. However, as a result of the complexity of the matter we are dealing with, we engaged those who have been commiserating with us to assist in pushing this process to a higher level. Together with other institutions, we constituted the organising team for the prayer gathering for Itai Dzamara that was scheduled to take place today at the Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield.
Other institutions that were a part of the organising team were the political parties, civil organisations and the church. We collectively met thrice and every constituency represented on the table was given specific responsibilities.
As far as my knowledge is concerned, The Pastors Fellowship of Zimbabwe representing the church was invited to the table but it appears as if they are seeking to posit that the prayer initiative was their brainchild. That is not correct. Through the help of well wishers in the civic society, as a family we have been hosting prayer meetings for Itai Dzamara on a monthly basis since his disappearance and that is public knowledge.
Its unfortunate and curious that of all the prayer meetings we have hosted as a family, The Pastors Fellowship of Zimbabwe never showed up. Neither were they a part of the process. In fact most church leaders never came through to pray with us because they are afraid to be marked by the authorities and eventually missing out on what they love the most, richies. One therefore wonders how one Watson Furayi from the Pastors Fellowship of Zimbabwe has the nerve to inform the nation that the prayer gathering was their direct project. It boggles the mind how he then collaborated, in my view, with the police to see to it that the prayer would not go ahead but that was overturned when the judge ruled in our favour on Saturday night. The prayer meeting would indeed go ahead as planned but we postponed it.
As indicated, the Pastors Fellowship was only invited to be a part of the process that has been ongoing. The reason was to broaden the prayer campaign. We want this to be a national process because it is a national issue.
When responsibilities were allocated to all the constituencies, the Pastors Fellowship of Zimbabwe was assigned to make an application of notice to the police and to coordinate the prayer section during the program. That is all they had to do and that was the beginning of the unthinkable.
This man who answers to the name Watson Furayi is a greedy money hunter. He hoped that everything pertaining to the prayer was going to be his responsibility not because of a service motivation but because of the perceived benefits. When he realised that was not to be the case, he began to do all he could to stifle the prayer gathering. Something that is not expected from a man who claims to be a pastor.
Due to the fact that the police notice was done through their somewhat bogus pastors fellowship, he took it upon himself to see to it that the prayer meeting was sabotaged. He went to the police and notified them that the prayer meeting had been hijacked by the MDC-T and so it had to be cancelled.
That is ridiculous and utter nonsense. Furayi did not have the mandate to call off the prayer because after all it was not his project. His organisation was just invited to represent the church on the table. However, his hunger for money, just like many of his colleagues, clouded his sense of judgment and according to him, the prayer meeting had to cancelled simply because he was not given room to enrich himself. That is absolute hogwash.
Ladies and gentlemen this shows how our religious fibre has been diluted. I shudder to think that with these kind of pastors we are heading towards an irretrievable religious precipice. How can a man who claims to be a pastor stoop that low and allow himself to be used to stand in the way of a prayer gathering for an innocent citizen who was abducted by what we are convinced are State security agents! That is petrifying. Furayi must be ashamed of himself.
Just like many of his colleagues who masquerade as pastors, he chose to sacrifice the demands and standards of his calling on a silver platter. It is indeed a shame. We do not know Furayi as a family and we have nothing to do with him and whatever he represents but for him to take the matter of our missing family member into his hands is unacceptable.
A lot of resources, time and effort were channelled towards this prayer gathering but one charlatan called Furayi took it upon himself to derail the process. However and in spite of that, the High Court ruled in the favour of our family and the prayer was to go ahead today had it not been for logistical dynamics. Furayi’s evil machinations have done so much damage in terms of mobilisation and coordination. It is with that in mind that we postponed the prayer meeting to a new date to be announced soon.
Lastly, I wish to challenge all religious leaders to take ownership of what is happening in the nation of Zimbabwe. The church must have a neutral voice in the way the nation is run and on issues prevailing in the nation. I am not under the illusion that our solution as far as our missing family member are in the hands of a human being. If church leaders choose to remain silent and help the oppressors to oppress people, with or without them, God will make a way in his sovereignty.
I also wish to inform anyone concerned that the issue of our missing brother can never be used as a trump card by anyone to meet their selfish goals. We will not step aside and watch as unshamed individuals, the likes of Furayi, seek to satiate their selfish agendas through our missing family member.
On behalf of the Dzamara family,
Patson Dzamara
UK gvt must also honour Zimbabwean army heroes
London (ZimEye) Zimbabwean ex-servicemen have been left out of the roll of honour and the United Kingdom government should honour Rhodesian/Zimbabwean army heroes in the same way they do mainland ex- servicemen, a petition on the UK government website reads.
The petition has been crafted by Zimbabweans living in the United Kingdom who protest that the UK government has stopped recognising the sacrifice and courage that Rhodesian/Zimbabwean service men of all races have made on behalf of Great Britain since the Second World War.
This petition comes in time with the annual remembrance ceremonies annually officiated by the Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“We, the undersigned, petition the government to recitify this fact, allowing a representative to lay a wreath at the cenotaph alongside representatives of other Commonwealth nations,” reads a part of the petition.

Zimbabwe was formerly called Rhodesia and despite former prime minister Ian Smith’s Unilateral Declaration of Independence(UDI) of 1965, Britain continued to regard the former colony as British and after independence in 1980, the country was only booted from the commonwealth in 2003. (ZimEye, UK)

The Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe VMCZ has lunched prestigious professional Journalism awards which is aimed at motivating ethical reporting .
The two awards namely “The Story of The Year” and “Most Professional Media House” will be held every November starting this year.
VMCZ board member Chris Chinaka at the event held in Harare last week to announce the development said they want to improve the deteriorating reportage the country is experiencing hence the introduction of the award.
“There is a very serious violation of ethics now, and there is no questions about that .I think we all need serious introspection as journalists. To have a frank discussion about the state of our profession and this part of this discussion which must lead to recognizing where we have done well,”said Chinaka.
Chinaka acknowledged that profession of journalism had been eroded by both political and businesses interests and challenged the public to advocate for media freedom.
“Journalists serve the public and it is the responsibility of the public to cry out loud and demand that politicians and business people must not interfere with the profession of journalism. Journalists should be independent and should not be told what to or what not to report on by anyone,”he said.
VMCZ said winners of the prestigious award will pocket no less than $1000 in cash.
A team of seasoned journalists according to VMCZ will be selected to adjudicate over stories which would have been produced from January to October submitted by either individual journalists or their editors for the completion.
Nigerian Explosive Journalist Forced Out of Work By ZANU PF
The brave Nigerian journalist who stood out to grill Robert Mugabe on his departure date, has been reportedly harassed out of work.
After a string of attacks from Mugabe’s ZANU PF party on the journo’s media house SaharaTV, Adeola Fayehun is now off the screens, a development which has seen the Jonathan Moyo controlled State Media writing in celebratory mode.
State Media Report| There is a feast of humble pie at Sahara Reporters, with the biggest portion reserved for Adeola Fayehun who has apologised to President Mugabe for her “awful” and “disrespectful” behaviour.
The behaviour in question relates to how she bypassed security and tried to heckle President Mugabe at the recent inauguration of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.
The local private media ran screaming headlines celebrating Fayehun’s antics even as sober minds pointed out how unprofessional it was.
Fayehun’s many critics also questioned the security arrangements that allowed a reporter from a media house senior Nigerian military officers have called a supporter of Boko Haram terror to get so close to a Head of State and Government and the African Union Chair.
Now her programme, “Keeping it Real” has been pulled off air and she is apologising profusely to President Mugabe.
In her “interview”, she shouted there was no democracy in Zimbabwe and that “President Mugabe” should step down, notwithstanding the fact that the AU and Sadc Chair resoundingly won a national election as recently as 2013.
President Mugabe maintained his dignity and ignored her.
And last Wednesday, Fayehun said: “I think you have heard of what happened between me and Mr Mugabe, an encounter that has led to the end of my career . . . I completely agree with you guys that asking (President) Mugabe when he would step down was awful, it was awful, it was disrespectful of me . . .
“Which is why this will be my very last episode of ‘Keeping it Real’. I figured it is better to end the show myself.
“It has been real and I have tried for at least three years to keep it real until what happened with (President) Mugabe and for the sake of peace so that there won’t be any more fights . . .”
In an earlier show on Sahara FM Radio titled “With the Humble Prince”, Fayehun said: “I wasn’t making fun saying he (President Mugabe) is too old. I really apologise for my comments.”
Efforts to get a comment from Fayehun were unsuccessful last night, and Sahara Reporters news editor Declan Galvin said: “We cannot provide you with her contact details, it is against our company policy. I cannot confirm on that (that her programme has been taken off air); you can go on her social media platform or website to see what is going on.”
Fayehun’s Facebook page was filled with posts questioning the move to terminate the show, while a web page on her programme had Fayehun confirming its end.
A fortnight ago, Media, Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo likened her unprofessional conduct to Boko Haram, in reference to the terror group that has wreaked havoc in Nigeria and neighbouring countries for several years now.
On his Twitter account, the minister asked; “Of course those are human beings, but are they journalists or Boko Haram? How do you know those were journalists, especially since they did not behave as such?”
Tellingly, last December, the Nigerian Army accused Sharara Reporters of being a propaganda arm of Boko Haram.
The then Nigerian Army public relations director, Brigadier-General Olajide Laleye said: “It is noteworthy but sad and unfortunate that Sahara Reporters has committed itself to support for terrorism and fighting Nigeria, its people, its military and particularly the Nigerian Army.”
And in the aftermath of Fayehun’s disgraceful show at President Buhari’s inauguration, Zimbabwe’s private media went into overdrive, lionising behaviour that the reporter herself has admitted was “awful”and “disrespectful”.
NewZimbabwe.com said “Mugabe humiliated in Nigeria”, while NewsDay claimed “Mugabe suffers humiliation in Nigeria”.
Daily News, which like NewsDay is a rabid advocate of anything anti-President Mugabe to the point of publishing several notable inaccuracies to further its crusade, was not to be left out as the private media tried to claim the continent was turning against Zimbabwe’s leader.
However, the massive backlash in Nigeria and across Africa to Fayehun’s behaviour has given the lie to those claims.
The question that remains is: will the media houses that celebrated this “awful”and “disrespectful”behaviour take their places at the table and join Fayehun in eating humble pie?

UK: Zimbabwean Carer Gets MBE Award from Queen Elizabeth
Yorkshire Evening Post| A Zimbabwean grandmother who has dedicated her entire adult life to looking after disadvantaged children has received an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Jennie Ngulube, 51, received the prestigious award in recognition of her ‘services to children’ – a job she says is her “calling”.
After working at an orphanage in Zimbabwe, the mum-of-four moved to Leeds in 2002 and has since fostered around 20 children at her Moor Allerton home.
Ranging from day-respite to long placements lasting up to four years, Jennie said she can’t imagine doing any other job and is stunned by her MBE honour.
“I’m humbled and thrilled. It’s something I never imagined would happen. The work I do is from the depth of my heart so it’s a pleasure to be recognised in the way it has. It’s an absolute honour.”
Jennie worked as a teacher in Zimbabwe and had intended to follow that career path back in the UK, until she explored foster caring. She was approved by the Leeds branch of Swiss Foster Care in 2007 and says has never looked back.
“It’s a calling for me. I can’t see myself doing anything else. I absolutely love doing what I do.”
Jennie credits her family – which includes her four children aged 20-32 and a one-year-old granddaughter – with helping make a difference to her foster children.
She said: “It’s not only me, it’s my family as well – it’s not something I do on my own. I love kids and seeing the difference in children who come from very difficult circumstances most of the time.
There’s nothing as satisfying as seeing children thrive. We’ve had kids come from very troubled backgrounds and seen them grow and become very confident in themselves.”
She added: “It’s a pleasure to be able to do it. I’m lucky as well to come across the kids that I have – I also get something from it too.”
Teacher Steals Perfumes, Dropped Into Jail
A STUDENT teacher with a local college earned himself a 20-day jail term after he shoplifted a collection of perfumes from Mutare Spar Supermarket.
Leeroy Banda (22) was convicted on his own guilty plea to the charges of theft he was facing. Presiding was Mr Langton Mukwengi, while Mr Shepherd Chavarika prosecuted. He was ordered to pay $20 fine or risk a 20-day jail term.
Banda was nabbed by Mutare Spar’s security personnel after he had tried to leave the shop with unpaid for toiletries which included Intessa Perfume, Adidas Perfume, Adidas Roll-on and a 20s Dunhill cigarettes packet.
Said Mr Chavarika: “All the stolen items were recovered by the security personnel from his bag before he left the shop. He admitted to having had stolen the items which led to his arrest.”
Asked if he was a smoker since he had stolen a packet of cigarettes, Banda said he wanted to sell the cigarettes.
“I wanted to sell the cigarettes and use the money for food at college since campus life is hard these days Your Worship.” However, he said the perfume was for personal use.
“I wanted to use the Adidas collection myself and give the Intessa perfume to my girlfriend,” he said. Banda begged for leniency from the court by stating that he was only a college student who had made a great mistake by shoplifting. -Manica Post
Penis Transplant Man Impregnates Girlfriend
Well, that first successful penile transplant that doctors performed several months ago appears to have worked…extremely well!
The 21-year-old man, who has not been identified, had had his penis amputated three years ago to save his life after suffering gangrene from a botched circumcision. In December, Dr. Andre van der Merwe from Stellenbosch University in Cape Town and a team of fellow surgeons performed a nine-hour surgery totransplant what he described as a “good normal penis” harvested from an organ donor.
The doctor told BBC News recently that the patient’s girlfriend has reported that she is about four months pregnant and this showed that the “transplant worked.”
“This is what we intended, that he should be able to stand up and be able to urinate and have intercourse,” Van der Merwe said. “So it is a milestone for him.”
NEWS: First successful penis transplant reportedly performed in South Africa
The patient’s testicles and sperm was not affected. The university had said in March that following his penis transplant, the patient regained urinary and reproductive functions. Van der Merwe told eNews Channel Africa that the man “is sexually active again and is very happy,” according to USA Today.
“He’s definitely smiling big,” Van der Merwe told the U.K. newspaper The Guardian on Friday. “He’s proud. He’s also a little bit shy.”
“The pregnancy is not unexpected because this man is having normal intercourse with a partner of quite a few years,” he added. “But for the recipient, it is a big thing and proof the operation has been a success. I’m happy and I have to thank my whole team.”
The patient is the second known person to undergo a penis transplant,CNNreported, adding that the first one, who underwent the procedure in China, suffered a severe psychological reaction and requested to have the organ removed. -EUOnline
“Mugabe Is Our God or Our Dog,” Your View?
Environment Minister and ZANU PF Commissar Saviour Kasukuwere has said that Robert Mugabe is “Our God.” Really?
Flip the holy blessed name “God” around and you will find it precisely spells “Dog.”
Editors please ask Minister Kasukuwere and the people if Mugabe rather qualifies as the latter instead of the former.

The team beat Malawi 2 – 1 in the African Cup qualifier match.

Strive Masiyiwa: The Golden Decision That Made Money Start Chasing Me
When we lost the Supreme Court case in June 1994, I was totally devastated. Two years of work appeared to have gone down the drain. My dream was shattered. The lawyers made it clear that there was no appeal possible, and we packed away all the files.
Although four years earlier, I had survived an abduction by what I believed, at the time, to be divine intervention, I never pursued this further from a spiritual perspective. Church for me, remained a place of funerals and wedding ceremonies.
When we got married, my wife tried very hard to get me to go to church, but whilst always respectful of her values I never went. On Sundays, I would drop her and our, then young daughter, at her church and go for my weekly squash game with “the boys” and dutifully pick her up, after the service. She was then pregnant with our second daughter.
On the Sunday after our Supreme Court defeat, I was still too gutted to go and play with the boys, but I took my wife to her church, as usual. She begged me to come in with her, but again I refused. I drove round the block and decided to return…… I sat at the back, by myself.
My wife did not know I had returned: It was the first time, in my life, I had listened to a church service, without the compulsion of duty for an event held there. It seemed as though everyone in the room, except me was so happy! The young American pastor, was preaching about Jesus Christ, whom I thought I had known all my life. And yet now I realised that I did not know Him; I only knew of Him. Disturbed, I left hurriedly and went and sat in the car.
Throughout that week, I continued in my miserable daze, but I was also disturbed by what I had heard, in that service….. I went back the following week. At the end of the service, there was a call for those who wanted to “accept Jesus Christ, as Lord and Saviour”. I stood up, and went to the front. This is, and shall ever remain, the most important decision of my life.
“Now that you are “born-again”, you must read your bible everyday”, the Pastor said, to the small group of us standing in front of him, after he had led us in prayer.
Arriving home that day, I realised that the misery of my court defeat, had completely lifted. It just seemed so unimportant. Sitting down that afternoon, with a borrowed copy of the New International Version Bible, I sat down to read the bible for the very first time, in my life.
Since the Pastor had said, “read the bible”, I presumed that you must read the whole thing (cover to cover); and my wife did nothing to disabuse me of that: I just read, and read, and read…Often, I would read the whole day, and the whole night… Finally I finished it after about three weeks.
What I did not tell anyone at the time, (including my wife), was that almost every night I laid my head down to sleep, I would begin to have quite extraordinary dreams…
One evening, I attended a special church event, held at a local hotel. The Pastor preaching, had never met me. As he preached, he suddenly stopped:
“There is a man in this room, you have been having these dreams…. in these dreams, you are building towers, rather like broadcasting towers…everywhere, all over the world. God is asking me to tell you, that He is the one giving you those dreams, and He is going to make it happen. He has also given you a new heart, you are going to have such compassion. Please come forward, if you are that man.”
There could have been 500 people in that room, that Sunday evening. I got up, and made my way to the front of the room.
A few days later, a miracle would occur, which would take us back to court, in a very dramatic way…
Grace Bunks Cde Midzi’s Burial
President Robert Mugabe’s Second Wife, Grace yesterday bunked former cabinet minister and legislator for Epworth constituency, Amos Midzi’s burial.
Midzi who died on Tuesday this week also had her husband’s government hand him an ordinary civilian burial which was at Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare Saturday afternoon.
Midzi was one of the few loyal ZANU PF officials who faithfully tirelessly followed through Mrs Mugabe during her meet the people rallies in the run up to the Mujuru purgings. PIC:
Hundreds of people thronged the cemetery to bid farewell to the late Midzi, a former cabinet minister, diplomat, Member of Parliament and provincial leader.
Relatives, friends and workmates described the late Midzi as a humble and loving figure who dedicated his life to the people of Zimbabwe.
The Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan province, Miriam Chikukwa the most senior official to attend the burial pleaded with delegates saying people should not take advantage of Midzi’s death to divide Zanu PF.
It was claimed through the State Media that Mugabe had “honoured Midzi” by conferring on him a state assisted funeral.
The government claims the late former Zanu PF Harare provincial chairman died of marked pulmonary oedema due to poisoning but loopholes in the investigation have pointed to a cover up for murder and the various substances seen at the site are said to be cheap elements concealing the crime.
This was revealed by results of a post mortem performed by three independent doctors as part of investigations into Midzi’s death.
He is survived by his wife Alice and three children.

Bashir to be arrested in South Africa – Orgs
News24|Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir must be arrested if he arrives in South Africa for the African Union summit in Johannesburg, two organisations said on Friday.
The Democratic Alliance and the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) want to secure a warrant of arrest for Bashir.
He was reportedly expected to arrive in South Africa on Saturday.
The department of international relations could not be reached to confirm whether he was coming or not.
The SALC intended to bring an urgent application in the High Court in Pretoria to compel South African authorities to arrest Bashir if he attended the AU summit.
The DA and the SALC pointed out that South Africa was a signatory on the Rome Statute, which was established by the International Criminal Court (ICC), and so was duty bound to arrest Bashir if he set foot in the country.
No arrest would mean violation of Constitution – SALC
“The effect of the domestic legislation is that South Africa is under an obligation under South African law to arrest any individual sought by the ICC,” SALC’s executive director Kaajal Ramjathan-Keogh said.
“This means that, should South African authorities fail to arrest President Bashir if he arrives in South Africa, they would be acting in violation of South African law and the Constitution.”
DA MP Stevens Mokgalapa said the party would write to police commissioner Riah Phiyega to urge her to display the political will to uphold domestic and international law.
South Africa needed to send a message that it took allegations of crimes against humanity and war crimes seriously, he said.
“If South Africa is indeed serious about upholding human rights as a cornerstone of our foreign policy, Mr Bashir will be arrested and finally face the charges against him for the atrocities he mandated and oversaw against his own people.”
National police spokesperson Solomon Makgale was not immediately available for comment.
The ICC issued a warrant for Bashir’s arrest in 2009. He is wanted for his alleged role in war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity in Darfur.
Zanu PF Still Celebrating By-Election Victory
VOA|Zanu PF candidates who won in Zimbabwe’s 16 constituencies contested in the just-ended parliamentary by-elections say they are still celebrating their victory and are ready to deliver what they promised the electorate.
The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) led by Morgan Tsvangirai, which boycotted the elections, has dismissed the Zanu PF victory, citing a low voter turn-out, while some independent candidates like Temba Mliswa, who lost the Hurungwe West election, blame Zanu PF for intimidating voters.
Maideyi Mpala, who is the new Member of Parliament for Lobengula constituency in Bulawayo, told VOA Studio 7 she excited about the win and ready to serve her community.
Some opposition parties and election observers say the parliamentary were marred by lack of transparency and voter intimidation.
Results announced Thursday by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission indicated that President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF party won all the seats in rural areas and cities, which had since 1999, been under the control of former Prime Minister Tsvangirai’s MDC.
Tsvangirai’s party and other MDC formations, citing lack of electoral reforms, boycotted the by-elections meant to fill seats left vacant following the recalling of some MDC Renewal Team lawmakers.
Zanu PF was pitted against small parties that got few votes in each constituency, leaving some of them crying foul.
President Mugabe’s Zanu PF party has been in power since independence from British rule in 1980.

Lewanika Must Go, Members Demand | BREAKING NEWS
Over 20 bonafide members of the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition have stormed the organizations head office in Harare demanding the immediate departure of Mcdonald Lewanika from leading the civil society movement.
A month after he was ousted from the organisation, the man is said to be still “ruling” the organisation.
ZimEye.com arrived at number 329 Samora Machel and witnessed the group trying to gain entry.
Holding placards some of them inscribed “Time up for Mcdonald”, Mcdonald Zimbavha” and Mcdonald Chienda”, the protesters said they were expressing their disgruntlement over Lewanika’s mal-administration.
Leader of the demonstrators George Makoni from Centre for Community Development in Zimbabwe Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition affiliate said they are disturbed by the continued existence of Lewanika at the organization.
“He was supposed to have left the organization on 31 December last year but up to now he continues to be here,” said Makoni.
“He is abusing the resources of the organization without the approval of the board which did not renew his contract and that is our major concern.
“We want to lead by example. He is tarnishing the image of the civil society which is at the front condemning corruption and bad governance by doing the same things we accuse government of doing.
Problems in the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition began last October when the organization was audited by external auditors who revealed massive corruption and misappropriation of donor funds.
The scandals left the board of directors divided resulting in their failure to renew Lewanika’s contract which expired in December of that year.
Owing to mounting pressure Lewanika last month wrote a resignation letter to the “board” informing them that he was “soon” going to leave the organization.
Both acting Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition board chairperson Samukeliso Khumalo and her spokesperson Mfundo Mlilo could not be reached for comment as they were said to attending a business meeting in South Africa.
Mnangagwa sec Tormented By Mysterious Deadly Demons
Six (6) months after a cyanide attack, Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s office has remained a hot spot for his staff who complain of deadly demons in there one of which once “caused a large rock to fall from heaven through the roof and onto Mnangagwa’s desk” according to an official report.
Mnangagwa’s Personal Secretarial department headed by Mrs Catherine Magaya who was attacked by a cyanide-like substance in her boss’ office just after the ZANU PF congress in December, has remained in turmoil resulting in Mrs Magaya receiving extended leave days.
She has revealed of mysterious deadly demonic attacks in the work environment one of which nearly killed her way before the cyanide attack an incident not yet commented of by the VP Mnangagwa who has threatened people saying that there is no life outside ZANU PF.
Mrs Magaya said she has had many bizarre encounters inside her boss’ office one in which a large rock fell from the roof and almost killed her.
“Just a few weeks ago, a rock fell from nowhere to land on chef’s desk, missing my head by just an inch,” she said in December last year.
Magaya quoted by the State Media said there was another incident when she twisted her neck after going into a trance “soon after opening Cde Mnangagwa’s office.”
Commented outspoken MDC-T cadre Job Sikhala, “Of bizarre happenings and mysterious twisting of necks and stones falling from nowhere. If you ask our elders and traditionalists they will tell you that there is a spiritual anger from someone murdered who will give you hell lot if sleepless nights and torment you until confession. My suspicion is that necks are being twisted by Gen Solomon Mujuru and is throwing stones from nowhere.”
Zimbabwe: Gono’s “Toilet-Manure” Dollar Notes Worth More Cash Online
Reuters|ON online auction site eBay, a 100 trillion Zimbabwean dollar note is a collector’s item fetching up to $35, a small fortune compared with the 40 U.S. cents on offer from the central bank as it seeks to officially bury the worthless currency.
The unloved Zimbabwean dollar, ravaged by hyperinflation that peaked at 500 billion percent in 2008, ceased to be legal tender on Friday as the country switches fully to the U.S. dollar.
The central bank says citizens have until September to exchange their remaining quadrillions of local dollars for a few greenbacks.
But economists say 90 percent of the economy has been based on the U.S. dollar since 2009, so few people are expected to make a beeline to banks to cash in old notes – especially as they could get a far better deal elsewhere.
“I think this is a waste of time. I would rather sell the money to tourists,” said Shadreck Gutuza, a former currency trader who now buys and sells used cars from Japan.
“Most people either burned that money or dumped it,” he told Reuters.
On eBay a seller was offering a hundred 50 trillion Zimbabwean dollar notes for $1,000.
Zimbabwe’s hyperinflation was considered by the International Monetary Fund as the worst for any country not at war, and the 100 trillion dollar Zimbabwean dollar note was the single largest known note to be printed by any central bank.
Tourists are known to pay up to $20 for a single note in the resort town of Victoria Falls.
“I buy a 100 trillion note for $10 if they are many, but they have to be clean,” said an Indian trader who sells fabrics in downtown Harare.
The government has set aside $20 million to mop up Zimbabwean dollar notes and to compensate customers who had local currency bank balances before March 31, 2009.
Bank accounts with balances of up to 175 quadrillion Zimbabwean dollars – that’s 175,000,000,000,000,000 – will be paid $5. Those with higher balances will get a rate of $1 to 35 quadrillion Zimbabwean dollars.
CIO Agent Seizes Horticulture Farm
A SUSPECTED Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) official has allegedly invaded a horticulture farm near Goromonzi, threatening jobs of more than 150 workers.
Report by Newsday |Thimoty Muyambo allegedly turned up at Little Flower Farm on Sunday and told workers that he had taken over the property from the white commercial farmer.
Muyambo’s intrusion brought business at the farm to a halt, with flowers and peas destined for export now beginning to go bad.
Little Flower Farm managing director Mathew Hopgood confirmed the development, but refused to shed more light.
However, sources said the farm was invaded despite assurance from Provincial Affairs minister Biggie Matiza that it would not happen.
According to the sources, a group of 12 men in four vehicles along with the police escorted Muyambo who claimed ownership of the property.
The group immediately changed locks on the gate and ordered employees to stop working before occupying the office block.
“The gang blockaded the private residence of Hopgood. This residence is not part of the farm. It’s a separate residential dwelling,” one of the sources said.
“Hopgood has not been at the farm since then for fear of his life. Export of flowers and peas has stopped and Muyambo has employed guards to man the farm.”
The farm exports 180 boxes of flowers weekly and close to two tonnes of peas.
Muyambo, who was in the company of one Mbano, who invaded a nearby farm around 2002, allegedly told the farm workers that anyone who did not want to work for him should leave.
The farm, originally 526,81 hectares in size, has been divided several times following a consent order from the courts.
About 35,31 hectares are now occupied by James Chiyangwa, 31,89 hectares by one R Kituli, while Tendai Bonga took over 39,87ha.
Part of the farm is also believed to now belong to the local MP Petronella Kagonye’s father, and production at the plots held by the indigenous farmers has been very low.
Hopgood said he was given a letter from the Ministry of Lands advising him to wind up farming operations by April 26.
However, he was told to continue with his operations after Matiza’s intervention.
Hopgood was told an offer letter in his name would be processed and he should continue producing export crops. He said the farm employed 97 people on a permanent basis, 50 seasonal employees and about 225 people depend on it.
“We have not seen any official offer letters issued by Ministry of Lands, nor have we had a letter of acquisition from the ministry,” Hopgood said yesterday.
“The business was left with 35 hectares of land prior to notification to wind up farming. The forceful occupation places the entire business in jeopardy.”
Some workers who spoke to NewsDay on condition of anonymity said they were now unsure of their future.

Zimbabwe’s largest mortgage lender Central African Building Society (CABS) says it has opened up its Budiriro housing development scheme to Zimbabweans in the Diaspora and individual companies after a low up take since its launch in 2013.
So far only 440 out of 3,000 houses have been taken up, with most home seekers failing to meet the bank’s requirements.
Old Mutual Property general manager, Gilbert Gumpo told The Source on Friday during a tour of the site that uptake for the stands had been low and the company is now looking to tap into the Diaspora market.
“At first, the scheme was only open to Zimbabweans resident in the country but we have since reviewed that position and we are opening it up to those in the Diaspora.”
“You also see that initially the project was only accessible to individuals but that is another position we have changed. Companies can now participate in the scheme,” he said.
Two-roomed houses cost $22,000 while four roomed houses cost $27,000 with mortgages of up to 20 years.
Gumpo confirmed that the initial deposit payable had been revised downwards to 10 percent from 25 of the total cost.
Zimbabwe has a national housing backlog of 1, 25 million while Harare has a target to deliver 105,000 houses by 2018 under the government’s ZIMASSET economic blue print.
Man In Hot Soup for Sending Woman’s Naked Pictures to Hubby
A HARARE man who sent nude pictures of his married lover to the woman’s husband as part of a plan to end the marriage has been fined $100 by a Bulawayo magistrate.
Kudakwashe Muregedze, 35, a truck driver, sent nude pictures of Fortunate Kuguyo to Artwel Kandiero through WhatsApp. He told the court that Kuguyo was his lover.
Muregedze, who was convicted of sending pornographic material, knew that Kuguyo was married.
He said Kuguyo had told him she was no longer interested in her husband and wanted out of the marriage.
The two then hatched a plan to take nude pictures of Kuguyo and send them to Kandiero as a way of frustrating the husband, the court heard. Muregedze was convicted on his own plea of guilty to sending pornographic material in the form of photos through the phone by Bulawayo magistrate, Marilyne Mutshina on Thursday.
He was fined $100 or three months imprisonment.
Prosecuting, Kudakwashe Jaravaza said on May 31 at around 10PM, Kandiero was coming from the city centre when he received nude pictures of his wife, Kuguyo on his phone.
He told the court that the nude pictures were sent using Muregedze’s Econet line. The court heard that when Kandiero got to his place of residence, he found his wife at home.
“Kandiero questioned his wife about the pictures but she denied ever knowing Muregedze,” said Jaravaza. He told the court that Kandiero decided to file a report against Muregedze leading to his arrest.
BREAKING NEWS: Warriors Finally Arrive in Malawi
The Warriors have entered Malawi after a gruelling journey through the old Rhodesian trail-path.
The Warriors never had any immigration problems as claimed on social networks ZIFA’s information department told ZimEye.com.
Claims had been that the warriors’ coach bus was held up at the Mozambican border after some players arrived with no passports. “It is not true they are already in Malawi,” ZIFA’s Spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela told ZimEye.com
State Media journo Robson Sharuko also reported that they were being escorted by police into Blantyre at the time of writing.
They are scheduled to play Malawi Saturday at 4pm. ALSO READ -Warriors Bus Breaks Down On Way to Malawi
BREAKING NEWS:Warriors Bus Breaks Down On Way to Malawi
The Zimbabwe Warriors team’s coach has broken down on its way to Malawi, ZimEye.com can reveal.
ZIFA has spoken in defence saying the bus was grounded only for a short period just after leaving Harare and the team is now safely on its way. ZIFA’s Information and Publicity boss Xolisani Gwesela confirmed the incident to ZimEye.com. He however assured the nation saying the problem was only temporary and the vehicle is now in full swing to Malawi.
“I can confirm, it was a minor problem though,” said Gwesela.
He continued, “…just after Harare, but it was hours back, hours back I think it was stopped for it was less than ten minutes or so. As you are aware a bus is a machine just like a human being you can get sick; I mean that problem was solved.
The team crossed border at around 2pm, so they are heading towards Mozambique and Malawi border.”
He said the team is set to arrive in Malawi at between 8.30pm and 9pm.
The team has to be well rested for the Malawi match Saturday at 4pm. ZIFA proffered assurance that the team’s spirits are back up after they were paid their allowances having yesterday refused to board the plane to the nation.
“What happened was an unfortunate scenario prior to that, but as you aware ZIFA is broke. There is no capacity funding as a national team…”
He added saying the team is not receiving any government funding “so its unfortunate that those guys failed to grasp that”.
Zanu PF Axes More Bigwigs
More heads are set to roll in President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF as its ambitious Young Turks who are known as the Generation 40 (G40) group — of which the party’s national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere is said to be a leading member — embarks on a fresh wave of purges targeted at their party foes.
Already, the axe has fallen on the party’s acting Harare provincial chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa, while a former close ally of First Lady Grace Mugabe — the notorious Godwin Gomwe — is almost down and out after he was arrested recently on corruption charges.
Masimirembwa only took office a few months ago, after the late substantive provincial leader, Amos Midzi — who died in controversial circumstances earlier this week — was purged from the party on suspicions that he supported former Vice President Joice Mujuru who stood accused last year of plotting to oust and kill Mugabe.
But at the core of the fresh onslaught is the restless G40, a composition of younger politicians with little or no liberation war credentials, which is already planning for life after 91-year-old President Robert Mugabe.
Party insiders told the Daily News last night that the latest wave of purges was directed at dozens of party leaders at district, provincial and national levels across the country, most of whom are deemed to be either pro-Mujuru or “too independent-minded” like Masimirembwa which renders them “problematic” when the party chooses its next leader in the event that Mugabe vacates office.
Under Zanu PF’s amended constitution, party members will vote for Mugabe’s successor through a secret ballot and the G40 stands accused of using the former liberation movement’s current restructuring exercise to purge its detractors and install its members in strategic positions.
“There is chaos in the party at the moment as the G40 is running amok, purging anyone who is seen to be not supportive of their objectives, and the senior party leadership looks powerless to stop them at the moment,” a Harare province official said.
The official claimed that Kasukuwere, buttressed by the powers bestowed on him as the party’s political commissar last year, had “caught other factional leaders in Zanu PF such as (Vice President Emmerson) Mnangagwa flat-footed and is swinging the axe in “ruthless fashion”.
Speaking last month, Kasukuwere vowed to descend on his detractors in the party after Masimirembwa and his executive unsuccessfully tried to put spanners in his mission in Harare East where the ruling party was fielding two candidates, Mavis Gumbo and Terence Mukupe in this week’s by-elections — with the combative Cabinet minister successfully backing the latter candidate.
“I want to appeal to Harare province that those criminals amongst us, we are going to deal with them. It doesn’t matter who you are and who you know or what. This matter of stealing from the people we no longer want it. You make our slogans and steal.
“It cannot be tolerated anymore,” Kasukuwere thundered ominously in apparent reference to Gomwe who has since been arrested.
Another well-placed source who spoke to the Daily News yesterday said Masimirembwa and Gomwe had allegedly been forced to form an alliance after they realised that “they had a common enemy in Kasukuwere and the G40”.
“They had to be purged. There was no way out. On top of that, they tried to create confusion over the Harare East issue which was clear as the sky,” the source seen as close to Kasukuwere said.
Acie Lumumba, an apparent Kasukuwere ally and who has been fingered as one of the main actors in the latest wave of purges in Harare, said yesterday that the ongoing expulsions and demotions were above board.
Lumumba has been moving around with Kasukuwere. “It is very clear who carried out the purges. One thing you can trust of Zanu PF is that it has a functioning system. Gomwe was removed by the youth league and likewise Masimirembwa by the provincial executive.
“It’s not who played what role to remove them but it’s what they did to be removed. Gomwe wore shoes that his small feet could never fit. He abused and misused the First Family’s name and broke the trust of the youths.
“On the other hand, Masimirembwa was just the simple case of the lights being on but there was no one at home. The man just never had it together from the day he entered that office and his executive got fed up and got rid of him.
“The reason why people saw a lot of me is that we had elections in Harare and my role was to support the party and the victory we have attained,” Lumumba said.
The post-congress Zanu PF is currently divided into two major camps, one allegedly led by Mnangagwa and the other by Kasukuwere — with both heavyweights allegedly tussling for “the ultimate throne” after Mugabe.
Another source sympathetic to Kasukuwere said it made “a lot of sense for the young generation to take control”.
“It is important to fuse fresh blood into the structures. Not all positions will go to the young generation but look you can’t ignore youths. There is nothing wrong with young people taking leadership positions at cell, branch, ward or district levels.”
Kasukuwere, who is also sometimes referred to as Obama by other Young Turks, in apparent reference to Barack Obama who defied all odds to become the first black president of the United States, is said to harbour ambitions for higher office — a move that has put him in the firing line of senior colleagues.
Members of the G40 and its alleged think-tank, the Gang of Four, that once also allegedly included Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao, Information minister Jonathan Moyo and Higher Education minister Oppah Muchinguri worked with Grace to mastermind the toppling of Mujuru from power, as they saw the popular widow of liberation war icon General Solomon Mujuru as a stumbling block to their ambitions.
But no sooner had Mujuru fallen than Zanu PF split into two distinct and bitterly-opposed formations — with one initially led by Mnangagwa but also fragmenting, and the other by disaffected liberation struggle stalwarts who now operate as the “original” Zanu PF that uses the slogan “People First”.
The ambitious Young Turks have apparently roped in co-Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko to counter Mnangagwa, in a bid to advance their ambitions.
One of the party insiders told the Daily News last month that the Young Turks had realised that “they needed more ammunition to thwart Ngwena (Mnangagwa)”, hence the incorporation of Mphoko in their alleged plot.
With Mugabe now old and frail, in addition to being seized with regional matters as chairperson of both Sadc and the African Union — his two deputies, Mphoko and Mnangagwa, have been slugging it out of late, battling for supremacy. -Daily News
Why Are We Zimbabweans, So Poor?
THE PRESIDENT ON FRIDAY: WEEKLY COMMENTARY ON BREAD AND BUTTER ISSUES
Professor Welshman Ncube, President, MDC
This Friday, 12 June 2015
A few weeks ago, we woke up to a ‘research’ whose results showed a list of fifty wealthiest Zimbabweans. I do not know what benchmark the researchers used, but the message was simple: those men and women have more assets, more money and better quality of life than both you and I combined! Rather than agonising over the wealth of the woman or man next door, the question that resonated in my mind was why ten million Zimbabweans are languishing in abject poverty. How did a nation of educated, enlightened and hardworking people end up being so poor? The answer is one – bad politics.
As a product of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lower Gweru, I grew up with a sizeable dose of gospel from the Beatitudes, paraphrased: Blessed are the poor: for theirs is the kingdom of God. However, I now know that poverty is more of a curse than a blessing. Zimbabwe is burdened with dysfunctional ZANU PF governance. ZANU PF, correctly interpreted means President Robert Mugabe is the purveyor-in-chief of poverty. Our rulers have exalted poverty by promoting lawlessness, expropriation, hatred and revenge. In their warped logic, President Mugabe and his henchmen believe that by taking from the white man and his companies; and doling out freebies to villagers, they are ‘creating’ wealth. He has soaked the nation in the semantics of deceit – that those like you and me who have ‘a piece of land’ are actually not as poor as we think we are.
We might differ on its meaning, but poverty is real in Zimbabwe. Wikipedia explains that general scarcity or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money amounts to poverty. When it is absolute, it becomes destitution. When it has economic implications, it is relative. The World Bank estimates that about 400 million people are destitute, especially South of the Sahara. As a leader of MDC, my heart bleeds that 35 years after independence, there are ten million Zimbabweans who are in near destitution and live on less than U$2 per day. Millions of our citizens suffer from not “having enough to feed and clothe a family, not having a school or clinic to go to, not having the land on which to grow one’s food or a job to earn one’s living, and not having access to credit.”
The World Bank goes further to say if you have “low incomes and the inability to acquire the basic goods and services necessary for survival with dignity… low levels of health and education, poor access to clean water and sanitation, inadequate physical security, lack of voice, and insufficient capacity and opportunity to better one’s life”, consider yourself poor. “Severe deprivation of basic human needs, including food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, shelter, education and information,” is what millions of Zimbabweans are now accustomed to.
In rural and some urban areas of Zimbabwe, there are women who have no access to sanitary wear and pre-natal expertise. I often see women of Mabvuku and Budiriro in Harare carrying water buckets and firewood on their heads, exactly like what my mother used to do in the sixties in Lower Gweru. How is it that in 2015, a country so endowed with natural and human resources cannot afford to deliver clean drinking water directly into taps even in urban homes?
Politicians in ZANU PF boast at rallies that Zimbabwe must not declare itself poor because we have diamond this, iron ore that and tobacco that yet we cannot pay a twelve billion dollar debt to IMF. Our fictitious national ego is a product of ignorance, pride and superficial sovereignty. We benchmark our ‘successes’ against poor countries then claim to be better than them. I have even heard ZANU PF politicians argue that there are also poor people in New York, Berlin and Tokyo. Of course there are, but the little money they get buys much more than the money we make in a month. Trade Union leaders have argued incessantly that in Zimbabwe, an average family of six cannot survive with less than $600 per month. The bad news is there are few families who actually have access to even $100 per month!
Let me throw a caution. All the talk about ZimAsset, industrial parks, foreign direct investment and ‘mega deals’ will turn out to be fiction if it does not bring food on the table of ordinary Zimbabweans. Occupation of land without title, community share ownership schemes and numbing propaganda on indigenisation has not brought electricity and clean water to the villages of Dombodema. President Mugabe delivers long speeches in Geneva, Cairo, Jakarta and Cape Town – international solidarity while workers at NRZ have gone for months on end without pay and no longer afford three meals a day. That to me is poverty. If you go to Mbare’s Matererini Flats, you encounter destitution, poverty, misery and deprivation of unbelievable proportions while the privileged ZANU PF functionaries like Philip Chiyangwa boast of houses with twenty-five bedrooms, expensive cars and private jets.
Some aspects of poverty are not about money, but “unequal social status and inequitable social relationships, experienced as social exclusion, dependency, and diminished capacity to participate, or to develop meaningful connections with other people in society”. The World Bank’s “Voices of the Poor,” based on research with over 20,000 poor people in 23 countries, identifies a range of factors which poor people identify with as part of poverty. These include abuse by those in power, dis-empowering institutions, excluded locations, gender disparities, and lack of security, limited capabilities, precarious livelihoods and problems in social relationships.
How have Zimbabweans been impacted by poverty? Health wise, there is lower life expectancy, hunger, malnutrition and infectious diseases. Socially, we are victims of rising cost of living, poor quality of shelter (hence street children and squatters), and declining quality of education, inability to afford education, poor access to primary school education, and no guarantee of work after completion of college including university, domestic violence, internal displacements and prostitution.
We can fight it, but dreaming of eliminating poverty is a bridge too far. We could begin by enhancing farming and cattle rearing strategies, industrialisation, improving ease of doing business, eliminating corruption, reducing the size of government and downsizing the idle army and police to save money. Good politics starts from democratisation, stopping farm and company invasions, restoring property rights and reverting to the rule of law. Internationally, greater access to markets brings more income to the poor; we can also take actions to get our national debt forgiven like the Zambians did, so that expensive debt repayments are channeled to social safety nets that benefit the poor. As someone quoted Nelson Mandela: “Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity, it is an act of justice.”

Beautiful Python-Snake Basking In The Sun in Nyanga
A huge python was yesterday spotted on the tarred road in Nyanga as it basked in the sun.
The reptile was seen by workers from the Cheetah Conservation Project Zimbabwe. They wrote Thursday, “today we saw this beautiful python sunbathing on the road close to Nyanga.
“We obviously stopped to take a picture, but also to make sure no one would run it over. As we’d never dealt with a python this size before, we were not completely sure about how to try and chase it of the road.
“A passing national parks ranger had clearly done this before, he simply broke off a large stick and herded this magnificent snake to safety.”

ZANU PF Wins All 16 Seats “Donated By Tsvangirai”
AFP|ZANU PF won all 16 seats in parliamentary by-elections, state media announced Thursday, after the main opposition boycotted the vote over allegations of a rigged electoral roll. [ALSO READ – Tsvangirai Donates 14 Seats ]
President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF extended its grip on power after being unopposed in several constituencies or facing little-known independents and minor opposition parties.
The constituencies voting on Wednesday included seats in Harare and Bulawayo that had been held by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) since 2000.
The MDC formations pulled out of the election alleging intimidation of supporters, media bias and being denied access to the electoral roll, which they claimed was stuffed with names of deceased voters.
“The ruling Zanu PF romped to victory after sweeping all the 16 contested constituencies in yesterday’s by-elections,” the ZBC radio reported.
The elections were held after the MDC-T fired 14 lawmakers who formed a splinter party, and two other MPs were expelled from Zanu PF for being aligned to former vice-president Joice Mujuru.
Mujuru was sacked by Mugabe in December after she was accused of plotting to unseat him.
Elections in Zimbabwe are usually a one-horse race for Zanu PF, which has ruled since the country gained independence from Britain in 1980.
MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai had urged his supporters to spoil their ballot papers.
CIOs Agents Caught In The Act Abducting, Torturing Mutoko Duo|BREAKING NEWS
“CIO” OFFICERS TO APPEAR IN COURT FOR KIDNAPPING.
Four fake CIO officers who were really just prison officers stationed at Mutoko Prison were caught in the act having abducted a DJ and barman and brutally assaulting them in the way, ZimEye.com can reveal.
The officers were yesterday seen running around seeking lawyers after their case of kidnapping and heavily assaulting two employees of Mutoko’s Madzeka Night Club a few days before was seen heading for a criminal court hearing.
The four officers George Chigwena, Martin Muchena, Kapere and Chitumbura at the weekend on Saturday 5 June descended at Madzeka Night Club before dawn and abducted Night Club resident DJ Lovemore Kamuzangaza and barman Bismarck Chipangura before taking them to an unknown place where they brutally tortured them before handing them to the police for charges of having assaulted their fellow officer one Takawira.
Police at Mutoko reacted with fury and arrested the quad gang.
Efforts by some Prison senior bosses to “save” the accused four from prosecution failed.
It is believed Mutoko ZRP are turning a blind eye to “save” the four accused because a month ago a senior prison officer attempted to armtwist the cops to twist a case into their favour.
The officers complained to their Dispo “for not pursuing” a case in which another officer a, one Mutukwa broke his leg in a scuffle at a local bottle store. Although Mutukwa, who spent almost a month recovering in hospital is widely believed to have been wrong, a senior officer at Mutoko, who is also known for unscrupulous behaviour, went on to try and force the prosecutors at Magistrate court and the police to suit the case into their favour.
The four officers have since been “temporarily” released from work so that they find time to engage lawyers before appearing in court.
The case has gathered heat since protracted efforts to engage the two Madzeka Night Club employees to withdraw the case proved fruitless yesterday.
According to a medical affidavit, one of the assaulted Lovemore Kamuzanganga’s ear drum was damaged.
Taxi Driver Kidnaps, Molests Three Kids
A taxi driver from Plumtree allegedly kidnapped three girls aged, 13 and 15, took them to a nightclub where he spent several hours with them fondling their private parts interchangeably.
Honest Ndlovu, 33, who alleged that the 13-year-old girl was his girlfriend, offered the three girls a lift from their rural home in Ngwanyana on Tuesday morning to a nearby clinic in Madabe, Mangwe. The two other girls are both aged 15.
Ndlovu was supposed to appear in court yesterday facing indecent assault and kidnapping charges but the prosecution returned the docket to the police for further investigations. He is now expected to appear in court on June 17 by way of summons.
The three girls, who are cousins, are primary school dropouts. Ndlovu, who is married, reportedly offered the girls a lift back to their homestead a few hours later and instead proceeded with them to Plumtree where he took them to Dumms Palace Nightclub.
He allegedly fondled the three girls while he was with them in his car without their consent.
The owner of the nightclub informed a police officer around 1AM on the following day after realising that the man was in the company of young children.
The mother of one of the victims who stays in Gassavu area in Plumtree said the girls alleged that Ndlovu drove them to Plumtree without their consent.
“One of the girls is my child and the other two are my nieces. I stay in Plumtree and my child stays with her aunt who is the mother of the youngest girl at our rural home. The other girl’s mother works in Botswana.
“I was shocked to get a call from the police on Wednesday morning telling me that my daughter and nieces were found at a nightclub with a grown man,’’ said the woman.
She said the youngest girl dropped out of school while she was in Grade 4 and the other two dropped out in Grade 7 as the family was facing financial challenges.
The woman said the three girls first told the police that Ndlovu was their uncle and that he was taking them to visit their sick grandmother.
She said the girls later revealed that the man had taken them without their consent and that he had fondled their breasts, private parts and thighs.
“I wasn’t aware that the children were missing from home. I don’t know what they were doing with a man far older than them. The man is married, to make matters worse.
“When I asked why they were going to the clinic in the first place they said my sister had advised them to go for an HIV test,” said the woman as she sobbed.
An aunt of the girls who stays in Solwezi said her younger sister who was staying with the children was unable to monitor them effectively as she was ill.
Renewal Team Bashes Mugabe On Humiliating Trips
The Renewal Team has blasted Robert Mugabe telling him to slow down on his international trips as they are embarrassing the nation.
The party’s National Chirman Sam Siphepha Nkomo said the two regional bodies SADC and the African Union should reduce the 91-year-old politician’s engagements to enable him attend to domestic problems.
“We note with concern the continued economic downturn, failure by the government to provide social protection to the drought-stricken parts of our country, harassment of the informal traders, fiscal indiscipline through Mugabe’s ceaseless international trips as well as the embarrassment the country gets as Mugabe continues to sleep in front of international cameras in Sadc, AU and UN functions,” Nkomo said.
“We call upon the AU and Sadc leaders to spare Zimbabwe this humiliation by asking Mugabe to slow down to save these institutions from the embarrassment.”
The comments came as pro ZANU PF analysts defended Mugabe’s trips as they said the perception has been built by the Daily News paper. Wrote one Suitable Kajau, “The editorial comment for the Dailynews of June 9, 2015 headlined ‘Time for Mugabe to rest’ is a typical example of yellow journalism which subscribes to sensationalism as its life-line of survival. What has the president done wrongly to warrant a suggestion by this paper for the president to relinquish power?
“The Dailynews is guilty of lying by omission. They accuse President Robert Mugabe of all the economic problems bedeviling the country without looking at the matter objectively that the western backed economic sanctions have caused havoc to our well-being as a nation. Otherwise the president is working flat-out to keep Zimbabwe afloat in the face of spanners thrown into his work by the nation’s adversaries.
“The impetus of sanctions is hinged on illegal regime change agenda by our erstwhile enemies. President Mugabe remains the people’s darling in Zimbabwe in spite of the insatiable desire to unduly discredit him. This explains why he garnered 63% of the latest presidential polls held on July 31, 2013. He is not only popular at home, but across the continent as he is a crowned SADC and AU Chairperson.”
Daily-News Stop misleading Zimbabweans about President Mugabe

This explains why he garnered 63% of the latest presidential polls held on July 31, 2013. He is not only popular at home, but across the continent as he is a crowned SADC and AU Chairperson.
If he was that bad as claimed by the Dailynews, how come he is heaped with all these international responsibilities? It’s because Africa cannot afford to ignore his services as a seasoned statesman whose track record of diplomacy on international affairs is respected by rational beings.
If we are all patriotic Zimbabweans, we should join hands and castigate the West for the removal of all traces of sanctions so that we restore our glory as a nation. It is high time that we dissociate ourselves with trivialities of bickering over non-progressive issues so that we look forward and find solutions which prop us together as a society. Every Zimbabwean has a critical responsibility as a bonafide citizen of this country to ensure that we work towards building Zimbabwe as opposed to the contrary which stifles development.
The media should play a pivotal role of developing society rather than causing unnecessary alarm, despondence and trivialization of our national values to the extent of throwing them to the dust-bins.
Dailynews is urged to review itself so that it can re-pick the ethical code of conduct expected of professional journalists that are focused on developing the nation rather than destroy it. Or else it should conduct a skills audit of its ill-trained reporters that are busy spewing venom where solutions are urgently needed to ascertain continuity of the nation state where they are also indispensible citizens.
It is an indisputable fact that President Mugabe is a constitutionally and democratically elected leader. In that respect, no-one can campaign for his down-stepping as that will be a real coup d’état and a treasonous matter against the wishes of the people.
Mnangagwa:You’re Dead As Soon As You Leave ZanuPF
You are a dead man (or woman) as soon as you walk out on Robert Mugabe’s ZANU PF party, Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.
Addressing a small crowd in Hurungwe, Mnangagwa warned saying people risked losing their lives the moment they decide to leave the party. His words appeared badly out of taste as they came within twenty four(24) hours of the death former ZANU PF Harare Province Chair Amos Midzi who died of circumstances still being investigated by police.
Mnangagwa was addressing people at the National Fire Week launch in Nyamakate, Hurungwe.
He said some party cadres were failing to discern the political wind blowing in the country ending up being axed from Mugabe’s party.
“We see, but cannot see well, and hear yet cannot hear well,” he said.
He continued, “there is no life that can be obtained if you are not with those who are ruling the country.
“Once you get out of Zanu-PF, your life starts deteriorating and becomes shrivelled like a leaf. Do not seek unhappiness in life, but go with the winning team.”
It was convincingly clear Mnangagwa was referring to numerous stalwarts purged by the party(including those who lost their lives) and in this area, former Mashonaland West provincial chairman Temba Mliswa who was defeated by Zanu-PF candidate Keith Guzah in the just ended Hurungwe West by-election.
Guzah garnered 5 961 votes against Mliswa’s 4 239 votes.
CHAOS As Zim Warriors Boycott Malawi Game
The Warriors have failed to travel to Malawi for their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Group L qualifier after failing to get assurances that they will be paid their allowances and appearance fees.
The match is due to take place at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
The national team players checked out of their hotel in the afternoon but refused to board the team bus to the airport where they were due to board the Malawi Airways at 1610hrs.
Coach Kalisto Pasuwa and chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze were at the airport waiting for the team to no avail. Zifa marketing officer Wellington Mugwagwa was also at the airport with the players’ passports.
Later in the evening, the players, accompanied by Mashingaidze, left for a meeting at an undisclosed venue, although it is understood they were headed to the home of Zifa president Cuthbert Dube in Groombridge.
The Warriors are now expected to travel on Friday, but via South Africa, in the event the allowances are paid or there is guarantee from either Zifa or Government.-Newsday

Zimbabwe’s Astronaut Jets Into the Country|ANALYSIS
ANALYSIS|After shooting out to numerous destinations far and wide while rarely habiting his own country, his next expedition could be the moon and perhaps heaven? – the ever airborne “air-stronaut” President Robert Mugabe jetted back into Zimbabwe Thursday morning from his visit to Egypt where he chaired an expert commerce summit for the entire continent. Mugabe whose country has neither trading capacity nor a functional economy, was heading the tripartite Free Trade Area comprising of Comesa, SADC and the East Africa Community.
The man who in meetings is either sleeping or fuming about America and Britain and his ‘popular’ land reform program topic, has squandered over $10million dollars on jet fuel alone since January 2015.
Commented Patrick Guramatunhu: “The most critical component that we need to consider is the fact that, he is the busiest personality on the continent at the moment. He is endowed with overwhelming state matters for the whole of Africa,” Suitable Kajau wrote on ZimEye.com yesterday. Busy doing what?
So what “state matters for the whole of Africa” did he help resolve on his Nigeria trip? He refused to answer even one of the many pertinent questions put to him about free and fair elections and tyrants who not only rig elections but want to stay over and beyond the maximum number of terms.
Burundi is on fire right now because the incumbent president is refusing to go, although he has already served the maximum two terms stipulated in the constitution. President Mugabe rigged the July 2013 Zimbabwe elections to stay in power. He has been in power for 35 years now and all he has to show for it is a nation whose economy is in ruins and whose people have been traumatized after decades of brutal oppression.
Of course these are important issues for Africa, the people of Burundi and in that part of the world deserve peace particularly after they have been through these last two decades. Zimbabwe’s economic and political chaos has caused untold suffering to millions of Zimbabweans and is destabilizing the whole region.
How can Mugabe be overwhelmed by matter concerning Africa and yet fail to answer even one question on the matters overwhelming Africa? After failing to answer even one question the next minute Mugabe is snoring like a pig! No wonder Zimbabwe is in deep s***t, no wonder SADC and Africa are in deep trouble; they have a megalomaniac who craves for power but only to sleep on the throne!
Sahara TV journalists have done an excellent job of exposing President Mugabe for the corrupt, vote rigging tyrant he is. On his way from Egypt, not that he did anything else other than doze off, can President Mugabe come back via Nigeria?
Low Voter Turnout and Paltry Figures Vindicate MDC
The MDC has been vindicated by the very low turnout in the 16 by-elections where Zimbabweans heeded the party’s call to snub the sham polls until the implementation of far-reaching electoral reforms.
The by-elections have largely vindicated our position as even these polls were fraught with the massive irregularities we have highlighted such as vote-buying, abuse of traditional leaders and disenfranchisements as some voters found their names not on the voters roll. The low voter turnout and the paltry votes for the so-called winners tell their own sad story. This is a pyrrhic victory for the Zanu PF regime. It is, indeed, a hollow and meaningless ‘’victory.’’
The average vote of about 2 500 for the “winners” in a constituency with 40 000 registered voters confirm that this is a victory of the minority. The majority who stayed away actually won these by-elections while the losers who participated in paltry numbers will be announced the winners.
It is a landslide of the majority.
Even in Tsholotsho where two Vice Presidents competed to buy votes by dishing out money and rice, the 11 000 votes recorded, are still a far much cry from the over 40 000 registered voters in this sparsely populated constituency .
From Luveve in Bulawayo to Dzivarasekwa in Harare, the story is the same; Zimbabweans stayed away from these sham polls. Zimbabweans heeded the call by the MDC and President Morgan Tsvangirai not to participate in these polls until far-reaching reforms were implemented to ensure a credible outcome. No amount of political grandstanding by the faction – ridden and disintegrating Zanu PF regime can sanitise the electoral farce that took place on June 10, 2015.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission must take this as a warning that unless and until they run a credible poll, Zimbabweans will continue staying at home. Until and unless reforms are implemented, our elections will not be credible and will continue to breed contested outcomes.
ZEC should up its game and ensure truly credible polls. The recent Afrobarometer survey conducted showed that more than half of the country’s population has no confidence in ZEC specifically for the reasons proffered by the MDC.
To SADC, the message coming from these polls is that the crisis of legitimacy is at the core of the country’s crisis. When you have the minority claiming victory against a background of such a shameful turnout and such paltry figures by the so-called winners, it confirms that something is very wrong in the country.
In short, the results of these by-elections are a disgrace. SADC and the rest of Africa cannot just watch when we are running charades disguised as elections.
We in the MDC remain steadfast on our position that we and the majority of the people of Zimbabwe will only participate in elections predicated on reforms so that we have a free, fair and credible outcome.
Dead Midzi Humiliated By Mugabe Again
President Robert Mugabe and his politburo have humiliated the late Cabinet Minister Amos Midzi in his death.
The politburo on Wednesday dishonoured Midzi for hero status.
Ambassador Midzi who Tuesday died in a mysterious incident the police claims points to suicide, will be buried at the Warren Hills instead of the heroes acre preserved for outstanding patriots who have served before and after the 1970s liberation struggle.
Several people have been controversially buried at the shrine as those most deserving are excluded. These are ZIPRA veterans the likes of Lookout Masuku and Wilfort Lizart Sibanda who were buried in Bulawayo because the politburo took so long to decide their status.
But the politburo has honoured unknowns the likes of Mugabe’s sister, Sabina
who in 2010 was declared a national heroine without much debate hours soon after her death, yet the same party has in some cases taken ages to decide on some people with impeccable war credentials.
MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC says there has to be serious review of the way ZANU PF confers hero status.
Father Rapes Two Daughters, Infects them with STI
A 47-YEAR old Harare accountant raped his two teenage daughters and infected them with a sexually transmitted infection.
The man appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mr Adonia Masawi yesterday charged with two counts of rape. He allegedly threatened to send the daughters, aged 13 and 15, to the rural areas if they reported the abuse to anyone.
Mr Masawi remanded the man in custody to June 15 for trial. Prosecutor Mr Liberty Gono alleged that the man entered the teenagers’ bedroom on December 23 last year.
He is alleged to have lifted his 13-year old daughter to another room where he raped her.
The man threatened the daughter with unspecified action if she revealed the abuse.
The same night, he allegedly summoned his 15-year old daughter to his bedroom.
He raped the minor.
After committing the offence, he threatened to stop paying the girl’s fees if she reported him to anyone. He also threatened to take the daughters to the rural areas. One of the girls reported the abuse to her teacher.
She was taken to Childline where she further divulged the abuse. The man was arrested.
A medical affidavit showed the minors contracted an STI.
Police: Midzi was Killed Just By Poison
The Zimbabwe Republic Police says former Zanu-PF Harare provincial chairman and Cabinet Minister Amos Midzi’s died due to poisoning.
A post-mortem conducted yesterday on Midzi’s body, which was recovered from his car at his farm in Beatrice on Tuesday, “reveale”d that he died of poisoning, the police said in a statement to the State Media.
The post-mortem was carried out by a team of three doctors. In the statement, police chief spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said further samples were taken for toxicology tests.
“A post-mortem was conducted on Midzi’s body yesterday,” she said. “Three doctors concluded that the death was due to market pulmonary oedema due to poisoning and some further samples have been taken for toxicology and we are waiting for the results.”
Midzi will be buried on Saturday at Glen Forest Memorial Park.

Chinese Men Seize Control Of Mwana Africa|BREAKING NEWS
Resources group Mwana Africa chief executive Kalaa Mpinga has left the company he founded a day after a crunch extraordinary general meeting which saw the ouster of his allies on the board as Chinese shareholders flexed their muscle and the company’s future direction in the air.
Mpinga’s Mwana, ‘a beautiful baby’ in one of his native Congolese dialects, has written an ugly final chapter for its founder after months of wrangling, initially over board posts, and eventually over what turned out to be long-simmering discontent about his management of the company.
Mpinga proved adept at navigating Zimbabwe’s treacherous terrain, infamously one of Africa’s worst, after surviving accusations he had been instrumental in an alleged internal ZANU-PF coup plot against President Robert Mugabe, ostensibly to catapult now Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa to the presidency, in 2005. Mpinga vehemently denied accusations he had chartered a plane that took ZANU-PF officials to a plotters’ rendezvous and lived to tell the tale, remaining an investor and frequent visitor to unforgiving Mugabe’s Zimbabwe.
He, however, failed to survive a coup instigated by a small group of activist shareholders, executed in broad day-light on a placid Tuesday in London.
Mpinga’s future in the company, which he founded in 2003 and built up pulling together assets disposed by Anglo American and Ashanti Goldfields, was all but sealed when four of his allies on the board of directors, Stuart Morris and Johan Botha quit last Friday while Zimbabweans Ngoni Kudenga and Herbert Mashanyare were ejected on Tuesday at the EGM.
“Mwana announces the departure of Mr Kalaa Mpinga as Chief Executive Officer of the Company with immediate effect,” the company said in a statement, adding that the terms of his departure were still to be finalised and agreed by both parties.
The writing was on the wall when majority shareholder China International Mining Group Corporation (CIMGC)’s chairman Yat Hoi Ning was on Monday named as interim chairman following the resignation of Morris.
Ning and CIMGC have been at loggerheads with Mpinga and the previous board over the appointment of Morris, Botha, Kudenga and Mashanyare as non-executive directors at last year’s annual general meeting, which spilled into the courts.
The petition was withdrawn on Monday when Ning assumed the position of interim chairman. He immediately — with the support of newly appointed directors, Scott Morrison, Mark Wellesley-Wood, Oliver Barbeau and Anne-Marie Chidzero — got rid of Mpinga.
“Mr Mpinga and Mwana have decided to part-company by mutual consent. He has been a great asset in the creation of Mwana and throughout its development to date. We wish him all the best in the future,” Ning said in a statement on the company’s website.
On Wednesday, the company announced that Ning had become executive chairman and Morrison had become senior independent non-executive director a day after his appointment as NED at the EGM.
“With these recent changes to the board having now taken place it marks a clear new beginning for Mwana and its shareholders, and we are confident that we have all the necessary qualities and experience to deliver success in the future,” said Ning.
But market watchers believe Mpinga and the previous board had reservations about Ning and CIMGC gaining control of the Pan-African resources group.
Mwana’s romance with the Chinese started in 2012 when CIMGC came in with a $21 million investment to restart Mwana’s Bindura Nickel Corporation (BNC) which had collapsed at the height of the country’s economic meltdown.
CIMGC’s entrance was trumpeted as creating opportunities for the company to access Chinese capital and funding and the ease with which that access would allow Mwana to cut deals in Africa and expand existing operations.
That did not materialise and Mwana had to raise $20 million from the local market to restart its nickel smelter at Bindura through a bond which was accorded Prescribed Asset Status by the finance minister and Liquid Asset Status by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
Market watchers suggest that Ning’s control of Mwana could mean that the company, which has a market capitalisation of £29 million, and its Zimbabwean assets could become central to the development of his other business interests.
Last month, Ning and CIMGC had disposed of 106,254,717 and 81,424,282 ordinary shares at a price of £0,018 (three cents) per share to fellow Chinese, Feng Hailiang who now directly and indirectly has an interest of 130,021,039 shares in the Company representing 9.302 percent of Mwana’s issued share capital.
Following the disposals, CIMGC now has a holding in the company of 218 million shares, representing 15.60 per cent of the issued share capital of Mwana while Ning holds 454,545 shares, representing 0.033 per cent of the issued share capital.
Analysts say the boardroom coup he pulled on Tuesday means he has assumed control of Mwana without making a bid.
For Mpinga, the son of Kasenda Mpinga, who served as prime minister from 1977 to 1979 under Mobutu Sese Seko’s regime in the then Zaire, it means an ignominious end to his romance with the company he founded in 2003 with the backing of investors from Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola and South Africa.
He controls 39,208,675 shares — 2.8 percent of Mwana’s issued share capital — directly and through Palanka Trust and Katema Mukubayi Trust. He also holds an additional 666,667 shares in Bindura Nickel Corporation (BNC) or 0.06 percent of its issued share capital.
Mpinga has previously worked for Bechtel Corporation in San Francisco, United States and Anglo American Corporation of South Africa from 1991. In 1995 he joined Anglo’s New Mining Division, the division responsible for exploration and the acquisition of resources in Africa and was appointed a director of Anglo American Corporation in 1997.
He left the group in December 2001 to pursue business opportunities in mining, founding Mwana Africa Holdings (Proprietary) Limited, the forerunner of Mwana Africa PLC, in 2003. He is also a nonexecutive director of Group Five Limited, a South African leasing, engineering and construction company.
Mwana joined the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in 2005 through a reverse takeover of African Gold.
Chombo Sends Army to Frighten Voters | BI-ELECTION UPDATE

Gwanda Residents Association on Prepaid Water Meters
The Gwanda Residents Association notes with great concern unprecedented moves by the Municipality of Gwanda to roll out the prepaid water meters project regardless of the resistance from the residents of Gwanda and that of other urban centres throughout country.
The Residents Association is particularly disturbed that council is going ahead with this move despite several requests from the association and other stakeholders for engagement on this matter before implementation or non implementation of the program.
It is an open matter that the issue of the legality and or constitutionality of the prepaid water meters is a matter certainly bound to be decided in the country’s highest court the Constitutional Court and so can not at this stage be implemented as it will be a mere waste of time and resources.
Several urban centres some of a bigger influence than Gwanda, have held huge demonstrations against the moves by their councils to install the prepaid water meters and the councils have since shelved the programs and opened up for dialogue with all stake holders.
Parliamentarians have tabled the matter in the august house for debate and so leaves it evident that the matter is under going serious considerations at different levels.
We are therefore shocked and disturbed as residents of Gwanda how or who our council presumes itself to be to consider itself better positioned and more capable to go on and implement this program in solitude against such odds.
We take this move by our local authority as a direct disregard of the coexistence of council and its stakeholders in the administration and development of the town.
We also view this move as a direct provocation of us as interested parties who have actually gone further and raised concerns to council on the matter and can therefore not take such provocation hands down.
We are aware of the unfortunate survey which council is said to have done amongst the residents to determine if the residents are for or against the meters.
This survey by council was also very unprecedented as it was very fraudulent and inconsiderate for council to put residents through an uninformed decision making process more so on a matter of basic constitutional human right consideration.
It is therefore with regret that we note that council celebrates what they call a majority of residents who opted for the meters on the basis of this fraudulent survey.
Council chooses to ignore an evident fact that when residents claim to favour the prepaid water meters to get rid of the terrible water billings, the residents are in fact sending a no confidence message to council and favouring the prepaid meters simply as a means of getting rid of council more than anything else.
As residents representation we stand by our demands that council comes for an open dialogue with us and other stakeholders on this matter and allow due processes currently underway in the higher offices to go through before they can seriously consider unrolling the program.
We by means of this statement, like to categorically reiterate to council that as the Residents Association and indeed residents, shall not sit back and watch while they engage in this move without due consultation, consideration and consensus from all involved and interested in the matter.
The calmness and willingness to dialogue exhibited by the residents of Gwanda must never be taken as a conclusion that the residents here are any different from those of other centres in the country and so can be manipulated willy nilly and wantonly.
We would like to remind our authorities that we are also equal citizens of this country with rights and privileges as with all other citizens of Zimbabwe and so very capable and ready to resist any moves that infringe on our constitutional rights by any legal moves within our hands to demand to be respected and appreciated as we are accorded rights and services due to us.
Bekezela Maduma Fuzwayo Spokesperson Gwanda Residents Association.
Goodwills Masimirembwa Axed
ZANU PF Harare Province Chairman Goodwills Masimirembwa has been axed, ZimEye.com can reveal.
Masimirembwa was booted from his position following a vote of no confidence passed Wednesday afternoon by over 100 party members.

The parliamentary by elections are being held in 16 constituencies left vacant following the recall of 21 legislators by Zanu PF and the MDC-T.
At least 102 candidates successfully filed their nomination papers to contest in the 16 constituencies in different parts of the country.

Biti Seeks Mujuru Coalition to Destroy Mnangagwa
Tendai Biti is “actively” seeking a coalition between his MDC -Renewal with Mai Mujuru’s People First. He is so convinced this is the right move he has dismissed doing otherwise as “idiocy”.
Biti and Mujuru can talk until the cows come home the political reality is that both of them are incompetent, corrupt and sell-outs; God knows they have proven this beyond all doubt already. Whilst education may cure one of incompetence, there is no known cure for being corrupt and a sell-out other than hang oneself as Judas Iscariot did.
They two should have apologized for betraying the people whilst they were in power and then resign from all public life!
They have both their political virtue on Zimbabwe’s infamous political gravy train. They have since lost their seats; Biti was in the GNU and lost his seat following the rigged 2013 elections and Mai Mujuru was a senior member in Zanu PF for 34 years only to be kicked out of the party last December. They are both itching to get back on that gravy train so much so they will do or say anything.
As far as the people of Zimbabwe are concerned the single most important task this nation must accomplish is to get all, not just some water down few but ALL, the democratic reforms agreed in the 2008 Global Political Agreement, GPA, which then gave rise to the formation of the GNU, implemented.
The reforms were designed to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship which has allowed the party to abuse state institutions like the public media, the Police, Security sectors, ZEC, etc. and rig elections. MDC failing to get even one reform implemented during the five years of the GNU and hence Zanu PF was able to blatantly rig the July 2013 elections and is set to do so again in future elections.
Although Mai Mujuru has been kicked out of the Mugabe faction of Zanu PF that is now in power, as a former Zanu PF member herself she still knows how the Zanu PF dictatorship works. If she was to contest the next elections and win then she will inherit the essential components of the Zanu PF dictatorship lock, stock and barrel!
The day Mai Mujuru and her former Zanu PF are returned back to power they would want to quickly consolidate their power base by appointing people loyal to the her in the state institutions and assure them all that it is business as usual. Her political power base is founded on the Zanu PF dictatorship and she would certainly not want that disrupted by someone implementing democratic reforms!
As for Tendai Biti and his MDC friends they have never believed they could govern Zimbabwe own their own and hence the reason the readily accepted GNU in 2008 and were not keen to implement the democratic reforms during the GNU years. MDC were quite content to have the Zanu PF dictatorship survive after the GNU provided it changed enough to allow MDC seats on the gravy train.
MDC leaders expected Zanu PF to blatantly rig the July 2013 elections but not to the extent of a landslide victory for Zanu PF!
Tendai Biti is hoping the coalition with Mai Mujuru will result in the political system MDC had hope would emerge after the 2013 elections; a Zanu PF dominated government but with a number of reserved seats for him and his MDC friends.
Many Zimbabweans have been fearful Mai Mujuru and her supporters’ strong Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical past; a leopard does not change its spots, ever! MDC-Renewal has been quick sooth these public fears by assuring the public MDC-Renewal will “wash off the gamatox” as soon as the coalition is back in power.
The gamatox reference comes the time Mugabe was angry with Information Minister Jonathan Moyo he called him a “weevil” that was destroying Zanu PF from within. Didymus Mutasa, Mujuru loyalist, saw Moyo and his faction in Zanu PF as the greatest threat to the Mujuru faction’s bid to position her to take over power from Mugabe. So Mutasa seized the chance to get rid of the competition and offered to bring the gamatox insecticide use to kill weevil.
Within six months it was Minister Moyo and his faction that successfully ousted the Mujuru faction out of the party. So it Mutasa himself who ended up covered to his eyes in the gamatox!
So for the sake of winning the next elections MDC –Renewal are willing to put aside democratic reforms and work to Zanu PF modus operandi thus accepted to be contaminated with the gamatox, as it were. The day after the coalition has won the elections MDC –Renewal will want the democratic reforms implemented or wash themselves free of the gamatox.
After what all what Mai Mujuru and her Zanu PF has already gone through being kicked out of the party and what they still have to go through to win back power, this lot will have no patience with some political upstart threatening their recovered political power by implementing some democratic reforms. Frankly Tendai Biti and his lot will be chaff to bit that they are back on the gravy train again they will not want to rock the boat by pushing reforms.
The bottom line is the Mujuru’s People First and Tendai Biti’s MDC-Renewal marriage of convenience will never ever implement all the democratic reforms; not before the next elections or after those elections. This proposed coalition is a political distraction, offering the false hope of a way out when it is in fact a cul-de-sac, easy to get in but near impossible to get out.
The only way out of this political and economic mess we find ourselves in is by getting all the democratic reforms agreed in the 2008 GPA implemented. Mujuru and Biti are not offering to implement any reforms so forget them.
Mugabe’s ZimAsset plan is dead in the water; he failed to get any donors to bankroll the plan. The regime has no plan B to end the worsening economic meltdown. The regime is under increasing pressure to accept meaningful economic and political reforms design to end the corruption, lawlessness, etc. which destroyed local companies and stopped new investment. We must insist on the implementation of all the democratic reforms.
Implement all the reforms and the country the polluted political air will be cleared allowing competent politicians and political parties will emerge and flourish.
First things first, get the democratic reforms implemented and that will finally secured the right of every Zimbabwean to free, fair and credible elections plus the host of all the other basic freedoms and rights for all time. Good and competent government and economic prosperity will follow guaranteed!
China Builds Military Base In Zimbabwe
VOA|A United States panel on Africa has been told of China building a military base in eastern Zimbabwe, raising alarm in Washington which is increasingly worried about Beijing’s growing influence in Africa.
The issue came up for discussion last week during a hearing on Zimbabwe by the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations.
California Congresswoman Karen Bass sought clarification on the issue from U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Dr. Shannon Smith, who had just returned from a visit in Harare.
“In recent years Zimbabwe has strengthened trade and military ties with China, including the construction of a Chinese military base in eastern Zimbabwe.”
“What if any, if you could speak to that, I think there are obviously security implications for the United States. What do we know about that development?” Bass asked.
Dr. Smith did not provide a direct answer, only commenting that ties between China and Zimbabwe had deepened over the years.
“The countries clearly enjoy a close relationship; China is active in much of Africa as you’ve seen in many places I know,” Smith responded, adding that the Chinese investments were mainly in mining.
Congresswoman Bass pressed further, asking who was being employed at the said camp – Chinese nationals or Zimbabweans – to which Dr. Smith said, “I couldn’t tell you.”
Exchange Between Dr. Smith and Congresswoman Bass
Studio 7 could not independently establish the existence of any such base and its purposes.
Zimbabwe National Army spokesman Colonel Overson Mugwisi could not comment, repeatedly telling VOA Studio 7 he was waiting for an appropriate response from his bosses.
Chairman of the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations Chris Smith took aim at Beijing, saying its influence in the world was bad for democracy.
“Human rights don’t matter in China; they violate human rights with impunity against their own people. So they’re more than able and willing to help a dictatorship or authoritarian rulers use a bad governance model of secret police… use of torture,” Smith told Studio 7.
“They are doing it in South America, Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia; there is a very dangerous trend underway in the World, including in Africa and this is at a time when more African countries are matriculating into more robust democracies.”
China is escalating its influence across the globe, making huge infrastructural investments and building alliances with nations normally condemned by the U.S. for poor human rights records.-VOA
Zimbabwe Uturn on Chrome Ore Export Ban
Zimbabwe’s government has lifted the ban on chrome ore exports with immediate effect after four years of the prohibition failed to ignite local processing.
The move was part of a raft of reforms targetted at boosting mineral revenue inflows. The government also scrapped a tax on the export of chrome ore and lowered power tariffs for chrome producers.
The development is seen breathing life into companies such as state-owned locomotive operator NRZ, Chinese-owned chrome miner Zimasco and bring relief to thousands of workers whose jobs were at risk as mines struggled.
Mines minister Walter Chidakwa said the ban had failed not stimulate activity in the ferrochrome mining industry due to outdated equipment, weakening prices and unsustainable energy tariffs.
Lifting the ban would enable chrome ore producers to mobilize financial resources for capitalisation to invest in modern technology in smelting, as well as address the plight of the small-scale chrome ore producers.
Government has also reviewed royalty fees for chrome ore from two percent to five percent, but the export tax of 20 percent has been removed to allow producers to generate income to increase smelting capacity.
“Government, has with immediate effect, lifted the ban on the export of chrome ore to allow for the export of up to thirty (30) million tonnes of chrome ore (lumpy, fines and concentrates) over and above the export of processed ferrochrome,” Chidakwa said in a joint press briefing with finance minister Patrick Chinamasa.
“In addition, in order to assist chrome ore producers to operate viably to allow them to create investment capacity in smelting, Government decided to reduce electricity tariffs from 8.0 US cents to 6.7 US cents per kilowatt hour for chrome ore producers, ZESA shall implement the approved electricity tariff, with immediate effect.”
Chidakwa said the threshold of up to 30 million tonnes of chrome ore shall be subject to review based on desired developments in the establishment of additional smelting capacity in the country. In line with the Zimbabwe Agenda for Socio-Economic Transformation, government’s ultimate objective is to create adequate smelting capacity for value addition or beneficiation purposes.
He said prior to the suspension of export of chrome ore in 2011, total prepayments amounting to $9,432,335 were made for exportation of lumpy and concentrate chrome ore totaling about 77,000 metric tonnes.
“This tonnage was not shipped following the ban and remains an obligation to the country. With the lifting of the ban, Government will facilitate the export of all the encumbered chrome ore to the beneficiary importers,” Chidakwa said.
“The optimum production, smelting and export of chrome ore would result in major producers such as Zimasco being able to generate income for expanding their smelting capacity. The economic livelihoods of small scale producers would also be restored, and revenue to Government would be boosted through Royalty fees payments, and other taxes such as corporate tax and PAYE.”
Chidakwa said all exports of chrome ore shall be conducted under the auspices of the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) and facilitated by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) and the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).
Also addressing the same press briefing, Chinamasa said cabinet has also resolved to withdraw idle chrome claims being held by miners for speculative purposes.
Zimbabweans Axed out of Mwana Africa
Zimbabweans Ngoni Kudenga and Herbert Mashanyare were on Tuesday ejected from Mwana Africa’s board of directors at the resources group’s extraordinary general meeting in London, which saw most resolutions requisitioned by minority shareholders of the company carrying the day.
Scott Morrison, Mark Wellesley-Wood, Oliver Barbeau and Anne-Marie Chidzero were appointed non-executive directors in place of Kudengaand Mashanyare, Stuart Morris and Johan Botha after the later two quit last Friday.
Resolutions to eject Morris and Botha were withdrawn as a result, as was the resolution urging Mwana Africa to resolve the differences of opinion with Yat Hoi Ning and China International Mining Group Corporation (CIMGC).
CIMGC and Ning withdrew their court action on Monday when the later was appointed interim chairman of the group following the resignation of Morris, who was serving in similar capacity.
“It has been a turbulent period for the company. Shareholders have spoken and the company fully respects their views,” Ning said after the EGM.
“We will now ensure that the company is in a position to capitalise on its strong operational performance achieved in the first half of the financial year. It is important to remember that the fundamentals of the business remain strong and with this issue now behind us, the new Board will come together to drive the company forward.”
The previous Mwana board had vigorously opposed the requisition by the minority shareholder group, led by Ian Dearing and others holding about 5,1 percent of Mwana’s issued share capital, with chief executive Kalaa Mpinga calling it a waste of time.
The minorities alleged failed corporate governance at the company and the poor performance of Mwana’s share price as grounds for a change in the board.
“Shareholders have invested in excess of £200m to fund the Company’s operations and acquire assets since its inception. The Company’s current market value is approximately 10-15 percent of this investment,” the minorities said in the requisition.
“When a company underperforms so badly, shareholders should have the right to call board members to account.”
Wellesley-Wood was removed as chairman in February last year, five months after succeeding Oliver Baring who retired in September 2013 and before the EGM, the Mwana board said Wellesley-Wood did not fit into its corporate culture or share the company’s strategic vision.
The resolution to bar the directors of Mwana from entering into “any unconditional agreement to acquire or dispose of any major asset without previously disclosing the details thereof to the members of the company a reasonable time before any agreement becomes unconditional” was rejected.
Kenya Gangs Up With Mugabe to Fight ICC
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has ganged up with President Robert Mugabe in an effort to weaken and disable the International Criminal Court’s jurisdiction over Kenyan crimes against humanity.
This follows the long trial of both Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto for their alleged roles in the mass murder of hundreds of Kenyans during that nation’s 2007 elections.
While Kenyatta’s case was later dropped, Ruto’s was left hanging and yesterday Uhuru sent his special envoy, Dr Fredy Mithangi, who is also that country’s Minister of Information Communication Technology, to deliver a special message to Mugabe to drum up support for Kenya’s stance on the International Criminal Court (ICC)’s Ruto case, which is pending at the Hague.
Mithangi delivered the message to Acting President Phelekezela Mphoko who will hand it to President Mugabe when he returns from Egypt.
The message also urged African governments to help Kenya in its quest to reject the interference by the ICC in the governance of issues on Africa.
Mugabe is on record attacking the CC as a Western project that targets African leaders in its prosecutions, claims which history however reflects the contrary since non-African leaders have also been tried there.
Tendai Biti Heads To Court as Bhasikiti Drags Mugabe Over Expulsion
Mwenezi East National Assembly member Mr Kudakwashe Bhasikiti has taken President Mugabe and ZANU PF to court challenging his expulsion from the revolutionary party.
Mr Bhasikiti, an erstwhile ruling party Politburo member and Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, was fired alongside several others on May 21 this year for alleged involvement in a plot to topple President Mugabe.
Through his lawyers, Tendai Biti Law Chambers, Mr Bhasikiti filed a review application at the High Court arguing that due process was never followed in his dismissal from the party and that the decision be nullified.
President Mugabe and zanu-pf are listed as first and second respondents in the court application.
Mr Bhasikiti, in his founding affidavit, argued that his constitutional rights were infringed and that the decision should be nullified.
“The decision to expel me, taken by the second respondent in a meeting chaired by the first respondent, is null and void. For starters, I was never subjected to the benefit of due process,” Mr Bhasikiti said.
“I was not charged of any offence and have not received any notice of any charge against me. I have not appeared before any disciplinary hearing, I have not given my side of the story. I do not even know why I have been expelled,” reads the affidavit.
Mr Bhasikiti said he had a right to be given reasons for the expulsion.
He argued that the Politburo that fired him had no authority to make such a decision.
“I was expelled by the Politburo… It does not have any powers of expulsion. Thus the decision to expel me is grossly irregular in that the Politburo that expelled me does not have such powers in terms of the respondent’s (Zanu-PF) constitution,” he said.
Bhasikiti said the Administration of Justice Act was breached because he was not given adequate notice of the nature of the charges, reasonable opportunity to make representations and adequate notice of right of review or appeal.
He further argued that all the Politburo members who decided his case were biased.
“I also wish to bring it to the court’s attention that all the members of the Politburo were grossly biased against myself and could not have sat in my matter,” he said.
“The challenge with the second respondent is that since August 2014, the party has been on an onslaught against those perceived to be in sympathy with the former Vice President Dr Joice Mujuru. I have also been included in this category,” he said.
Bhasikiti argued that his right to due process and protection of the law enshrined under Section 56 (1) of the Constitution was violated.
To that end, Bhasikiti is seeking a declaration that his rights were violated.
He also argued that his right to administrative justice under Section 68 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe was also breached.
Bhasikiti said Zanu-PF even failed to follow its own constitution in expelling him.
He said his perceived alignment to Dr Mujuru also caused his expulsion from Government where he was Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister.
President Mugabe and Zanu-PF are yet to respond to the court application.

Commenting on the development ZimEye.com News Analyst Ndaba Nhuku said there was still something sinister to the whole plot because if it was suicide the car keys would not have been found under the foot mat.
“President Mugabe once said Harare is the capital city of gossip. Maybe he was right. So you now saying Midzi has these blue Viagra tablets and was out on an unused road to see a small house who turns out to have been a fatal honeytrap leaving him lifeless with keys under the mat?,” questioned Nhuku.

Mliswa Contesting In Bi-Elections Despite Court Loss
Hurungwe West independent candidate for the tomorrow’s -elections Themba Mliswa is going to contest in the election despite losing the court challenge in which he wanted the polls to be postponed.
Mliswa today (Tuesday) had approached the Electoral Court seeking the postponement of tomorrow’s by-election because of violence which ZANU (PF) was perpetrating on his supporters.
But Justice Tendai Uchena dismissed his application citing a short period in which it was filed.
Justice Uchena said the application should have given the respondents at least 10 days for them to respond.
But Mliswa had given them (respondents) only three days.
In his application Mliswa cited Keith Guzah ZANU (PF) aspiring candidate, Ignatius Chombo the Secretary for Administration for ZANU (PF) and five traditional leaders. Recorded video and audio footage reveal the violent plot spearheaded by Minister Chombo.
In an interview after the court case hearing Musindo Dunira Hungwe who was representing Mliswa said Mliswa was not withdrawing from the polls.
“It’s a political question to answer which needs the real politician to attend to but as far as I know my client he is not such kind who retreats,” said the lawyer.
Asked if he was happy with the ruling, Hungwe said he had mixed feelings.
“I can say that I have mixed emotions over the ruling, firstly I am saddened by the fact that the main relief we were seeking before the court did not come our way and in effect the election will proceed in spite of our queries and complaints.
“But in the main we are happy that this case while it might not bring happiness to my client or relief to my client it has helped in a way to shape the jurisprudence of our law in relation to electoral matters. There were quite a number of grey areas. In particular we now know that the electoral court has jurisdiction to handle such matters which is quite different from the position that had been previously held by the very same court in terms of the jurisdiction”, he commented.
Amos Midzi Death Mystery – FULL REACTIONS
Below is what a sample of Zimbabwean news readers said following the sudden death of ZANU PF former kingmaker Amos Midzi who was found dead in his car Tuesday morning:

Patrick Guramatunhu: I remember the photo of Midzi’s humiliation at the Grace Mugabe rally last year! He who sups with the devil must have a long spoon; it seems Midzi’s spoon was not long enough!
Revesayi Makubalo: Gamba ranyarara zvaro MaComrades. I am in pain. Just wondering whether he killed himself or by the enemy? Power is worth more than life?? Are we really a Christian country?!!!! Haaaa this is not fair. Today its him who is next?

President Mugabe’s Sleeping At Work Caused By Busy Schedule | OPINION
Hullaballoo about President Robert Mugabe’s sleeping during the inauguration of the new Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, is a fuss worth dismissing with due contempt that it deserves.
The most critical component that we need to consider is the fact that, he is the busiest personality on the continent at the moment. He is endowed with overwhelming state matters for the whole of Africa.
After a special consideration, African leaders named President
Mugabe as the African Union (AU) Chairperson. It followed the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) which chose him to be its Chair after they were satisfied that he was the only competent candidate that leads ahead of all in the region.
In view of this natural enthronement based on his traceable track record of statesmanship, he was naturally tired when he attended the Nigerian occasion. It is a folly to terrorize him for feeling tired as a biological human being who is subject to natural processes like any other being.
Let us stop abusing President Mugabe as he is a fellow human being, hence, he cannot behave supernaturally.
The definite sure case on the contrary is that he is proficient enough to execute his core responsibilities as an African leader. However, can this be the case of the old adage which goes, “A prophet is never popular in his home village?” Its only Africans making noise about their chosen leader, while internationally he is a renowned decorated and an accomplished post independence leader that achieved total independence for his people. He managed to consolidate economic and political independence for Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is currently a hot case study for the rest of Africa to emulate in order to shrug off the damaging effects of neo-colonialism
It is an indisputable fact that President Mugabe is a true Pan-Africanist that champions African values and visions. The misguided reporters of the so called ‘Sahara News’ need to be schooled for them to appreciate this fact. It’s sad to note that it’s only us in Africa where we stone our own heroes. This is an acute deficit that needs to be corrected for us to restore our true African identity so that we can see the stardom in President Mugabe.
In spite of all these odds, it is a living fact that President Mugabe remains popular amongst his people for his stern measures against western domination. Even independent researchers from Afro-Barometer declared that President Mugabe is gaining popularity ahead of all in the contemporary times. The country is proud to declare that it is one of the few states that rely on 100% local funding for its budgets as compared to some nations in Africa whose government budgets are over 60% donor funded.

ceremony of the Highlanders Football Club bus over the weekend. Sibanda who was recording the call without Nkolomi’s knowledge had asked the board chairman why his board had allowed for a direct link of the Bulawayo club to ZANU PF.
Nkolomi said that his club was also surprised when they saw the widely condemned invitation letters which had the Highlanders logo and ZANU PF side by side said to be the sponsors of the event. At the bottom the invitation had an election campaign message for ZANU PF Makokoba by election candidate Tshinga Dube.
Highlanders fans the world over were infuriated by the invitation and the event which they considered to be throwing the team into politics. Most fans were particularly angered by the availability of Vice President Emmerson Mnangangwa at the function.
“We did were not party to the advert, we were also shocked when we saw the invitation. It was done by some enthusiastic members of the Tshinga Dube campaign team who did it without consulting us,” said Nkolomi.
“This is why three days after the invitation was circulated that Tshinga Dube had a press conference to clarify the matter,” added Nkolomi.
Explaining the relationship between Tshinga Dube and Highlanders, Nkolomi said that Dube had in recent years been the biggest donor to Highlanders and so the club was under no obligation to refuse to handle the bus donation the way Dube wanted. Dube is said to have contributed $25 000 of the $45 000 cost of acquiring the team bus.
“We could not refuse as a club when Dube wanted to invite his work mates in the form of Mungagwa and other government officials to help him hands over the bus,” said Nkolomi.
In media reports over the weekend, Tshinga Dube challenged the Highlanders supporters who were complaining of the involvement of ZANU PF officials in the bus saga telling them to keep quiet as they are only good at talking and not helping the club in anyway. Dube claimed that the club owes him $18 000 which he is contemplating writing off as it is failing to pay him.
Speaking at the poorly attended handover function at Bourbafields Stadium in Bulawayo, Vice President UMnangagwa cherished his new relationship with the Bulawayo soccer giants pledging his full support for the team. He was presented with a Highlanders number 9 replica Jersey with his name inscribed at the back.
Chinese Shareholders Get Mwana Chair, Withdraw Petition and Take Sting Out of Dissidents’ Action
Mwana Africa has appointed Yat Hoi Ning, an associate of its largest shareholder, China International Mining Group Corporation (CIMGC) as interim chairman after Ning and the CIMGC withdrew a court petition against the pan-African resources group over the appointment of non-executive directors.
He replaces Stuart Morris who also held the post in interim capacity who quit last Friday, along with fellow South African non-executive director, Johan Botha.
His appointment also weakens the petition by an activist shareholder group, led by Ian Dearing and others holding about 5,1 percent of Mwana’s issued share capital, who requisitioned for an extraordinary general meeting set for Tuesday in London. The dissident shareholders seek to eject four directors from the board, citing among other issues, the Mwana board’s tiff with CIMGC and Ning, who collectively hold nearly 16 percent of the group.
The ‘Concerned Shareholders Group’, want the EGM to, among other resolutions, remove the now retired Morris and Botha along with Zimbabweans Ngoni Kudenga and Herbert Mashanyare and replace them with Scott Morrison, Mark Wellesley-Wood, Oliver Barbeau and Anne-Marie Chidzero.
“Mwana is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Yat Hoi Ning as chairman of the company with immediate effect,” announced the AIM listed firm on its website.
“Mr Yat Hoi Ning, who has been a Non-Executive Director of Mwana, will fulfil this role until a new Chairman has been appointed.”
Mwana had earlier announced that CIMGC and Ning had settled with the company all claims with respect to their petition issued in the Companies Court on December 8 last year.
Mwana’s romance with the Chinese started in 2012 when CIMGC came in with a $21 million investment to restart Mwana’s Bindura Nickel Corporation (BNC) which had collapsed at the height of the country’s economic meltdown.
The relationship soured last year, with CIMGC and Ning disputing the appointment of Stuart Morris, Johan Botha, Kudenga and Mashanyare as non-executive directors of the company.
The petition was suspended by the court until June 15 this year to enable the parties to reach an agreement.
Both CIMGC and Ning were not part of the requisition by the activist shareholders.
In addition to his new Mwana Africa post, Ning is the founder of a number of mining companies including Congo International Mining Corporation SPRL, African PGM Processing SPRL and Fareast Nickel Mining Corporation.
He is also chairman of CIMGC, Hoi Mor Industrial (Group) Limited and Hong Kong Mining Exchange Company Limited.
Court Orders Chinese Diamond Anjin to reinstate 1,100 Expelled Workers
Chinese diamond miner Anjin Investments has been ordered by Zimbabwe’s labour court to reinstate at least 1,100 employees it fired three years ago, The Source has established.
Anjin, one of the seven firms licenced to mine the vast government-controlled Marange diamond field, is a joint venture between China’s Anhui Foreign Economic Construction (Group) Co and Zimbabwean state entities and began operations in 2009.
The mine, which over three years ago claimed to be the largest producer of diamonds in the world, has been facing viability problems and is among diamond firms that have since 2013, reported diminishing alluvial diamond deposits in Marange.
In 2012 the company dismissed 1,500 workers who had gone on strike demanding salary increases.
The workers then challenged the dismissal in court, demanding reinstatement without loss of salary and benefits or damages in lieu of reinstatement.
In a judgment seen by The Source on Monday, Labour Court judge, Justice Chidziva upheld the appeal on May 29 after the company failed to among others furnish the court with minutes of disciplinary proceedings which led to the dismissals.
“Where a party does not appear or show good cause how he or she did not file a response, the court may according to the nature of the case or the justice of the required enter into a default judgment against the defaulting party,” read part of the judgment.
“Accordingly it is ordered that, the appeal be and is hereby granted in default in terms of Rule 22 (b) (i) Labour Court Rules S.I 59/2006, respondent to bear costs of suit.”
The legal representatives for the workers, Munyaradzi Gwisai wrote to the company’s lawyers, Mugiya & Macharaga, informing them that the workers would report for work in terms of the judgment.
“May you also kindly impress upon your client to pay back pay and benefits due to our clients from August 2012 which is the date of unlawful suspension to date. We hope your client will reinstate our clients to their previous positions, failure of which we will apply for damages in lieu of reinstatement,” Gwisai wrote.
Zimbabwe Diamonds and Allied Workers Union (Zidawu) president Cosmas Sunguro, a former workers committee chairman at Anjiin, welcomed the ruling. He said the employees reported for work last Friday but were not allowed to work, with officials saying they will communicate management’s decision through their lawyer.
“As Zidawu we are very happy about the results. At last justice has been delivered after three years. It’s unfortunate that some of my dear friends passed away before seeing this day,” he said.
Recently the mine lost its bid to stop the auctioning of its property worth $800,000 by former workers after the High Court dismissed its urgent chamber application against an arbitration ruling that gave the award. The company’s 200 former security guards had filed a $837, 506, 22 claim against their ex-employer whom they accused of contractual breaches.
Anjin officials were not immediately available to comment on the ruling.
Makokoba Must Extricate Mnangagwa’s Tshinga Dube
Dear Editor
Pease allow me to say, ‘Thank you to Tshanga Dube for being a financial backbone to Highlanders Foot ball Club.’ Tshinga Dube explained how he has over the years quietly supported Amahlolanyama with his funds, and even loaned it monies it is yet to pay back. He is a generous man who should be applauded indeed. I have no problem with that. There are many individuals, including Dube himself, who have supported Highlanders in one way or another and never called for a rally to display their donations.
Thus, what makes this bus donation questionable is why he has chosen this time to call for a rally to display his donation. And why did his invitation cards allude to Highlanders as a n extension of Zanu? What has his Zanu parliamentary candidacy and rally have to do with Amahlolanyama. Is he simply not bribing its supporters to vote for Zanu? And why bring in VP Mnangangwa as the main speaker at the so-called handover ceremony/rally? How dare Tshinga try to cleanse Mnangangwa of his alleged Gukurahundi massacres involvement by using Highlanders? Did he fail to invite VP Mphoko, or his Bulawayo governor? Dube was entitled to invite who ever he wanted, but surely not a man alleged to be at the forefront of the murder of the very people who mainly support Highlanders? What was Dube trying to do? To tell us that he is leading the pack making Mnangagwa look like a saint not responsible for Gukurahundi in any way?
Tshinga has shown us that he is extremely desperate for that seat. I recall that after the 2013 general elections rumours circulated thatubaba uTshinga Dube took his loss badly such that he had to be hospitalized. I wished Bulawayo could spare him that pain this time, but no; Makokoba voters should not. He deserves to be punished heavier by using Highlanders to sanitise Gukurahundi leaders. As a seasoned politician, business, former Zipra cadre, military industrialist, military leader; he seems far detached and insensitive to the anger of the people of Bulawayo regarding Gukurahundi. His military strategies have failed to work and voters should shoot him inside the ballot box as punishment. He really doesn’t care about how people who lost relatives and friends during that era feel and think about the whole issue. He is only thinking, and desperately so, about getting the Makokoba seat at all cost, even if it means waging an emotional Gukurahundi war
Bulawayo and Highlanders. Tshinga needs to respect uBulawayo and be punished for being insensitive. Makokoba should not vote for him. Thank you for the bus. The money spent on it may as well have come from our national coffers.
Zambian Artist Arrested for Criticising President
AFP|A ZAMBIAN musician was arrested on Monday over a song he composed that officials said defamed President Edgar Lungu by accusing him of drinking too much and being incompetent.
Chama Fumba, 31, whose stage name is Pilato, was detained in Lusaka and charged with conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, his lawyer told reporters at the capital’s central police station.
“The police declined to grant us bail and we requested to them that in that case the matter should quickly proceed to court,” Marshall Muchende said.
Fumba faces a maximum sentence of six months in prison or a fine if found guilty.
The song’s lyrics tell the story of a character named Lungu who grows up in a slum and becomes president.
The Lungu in the song is described as carrying a suitcase filled with bottles of Jameson Irish whiskey and having no idea how to govern.
President Lungu, 58, who took office in January, is a former defence minister.
He suffers from recurring achalasia, a condition caused by narrowing of the oesophagus, and has regularly been hospitalised for treatment.
His election victory followed the death of predecessor Michael Sata.
