Ziyambi also declared that no nation would accept calls for violent uprisings against its leadership, reinforcing the government’s stance against such actions.

Mhlanga was arrested on February 24, 2025, after he voluntarily turned himself in to the police. His arrest came after allegations that he had incited public violence through his broadcasts on HSTV, which included interviews with political figures critical of the government. Speaking at the weekend, Masvingo North Constituency Member of Parliament Brian Mudumi expressed gratitude for the donation, which is expected to significantly aid in the completion of the clinic, a vital project for the community.

“We are truly grateful for Major Sean Mnangagwa’s generous contribution of 100 bags of cement towards the construction of Zishumbe clinic,” Mudumi said.

“This donation will undoubtedly play a significant role in the completion of the clinic, which will provide essential healthcare services to the people of Masvingo North.”

Two opposition activists aligned with Advocate Nelson Chamisa were attacked by State Security agents in Bulawayo on Saturday.

The activists, Arnold Batirai Dube and Takunda Madzana, are now on the run as they are being pursued by State Security agents in connection with the March 31 protests.

War veteran Blessed Geza had previously announced that protests against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s third-term agenda would take place at the end of the month.

In an interview with ZimEye.com on Monday, Batirai Dube shared his experience: “We are currently on the run. On Saturday, eight State Security agents assaulted me, punching and slapping me while demanding to know the whereabouts of Gift Ostallos Siziba. I told them I had no knowledge of his location.”

He continued, “They grabbed my phone and searched it, also punching me in the ribs. I somehow managed to escape. I am afraid to go home because I know they are looking for me.”

Madzana also expressed his fear, saying, “I am terrified for my life because government agents are searching for me. They are accusing me of organizing the March 31 protests.”

By Parliamentary Reporter– Zanu PF legal affairs secretary Patrick Chinamasa has been assigned to spearhead efforts to neutralize online dissent against Mnangagwa’s “ED2030” agenda as the party escalates its crackdown on digital activism, targeting individuals and groups using social media to challenge President Mnangagwa’s proposed continued rule.

Speaking at a Zanu PF meeting in Mutare over the weekend, Chinamasa reaffirmed the party’s commitment to Mnangagwa’s continued rule, declaring, “President Dr. ED Mnangagwa’s leadership has brought invaluable progress to our nation. We will not relent in our efforts to persuade him to accept our unanimous support for his tenure until 2030.”

However, Chinamasa also issued a stern warning to digital activists, vowing to unmask those who use anonymous accounts to criticize the government. “Ghost accounts cannot hide you; we have the means to identify perpetrators of malicious social media activity, and they will face consequences,” he warned.

Escalating the Digital Clampdown

Under the pretext of curbing misinformation and protecting national stability, Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere has announced plans to introduce new regulations targeting online activities. Speaking at a Ministers Meet the Media event last week, Muswere described social media as a “double-edged sword” that, while enabling engagement, is also being “misused by activists and critics to undermine government interests.”

“Social media is not properly governed, and this has led to a situation where people are chasing shadows—shadows that have no meaning; shadows run by ghost accounts operated by individuals seeking to demonize their own country,”Muswere stated.

He also accused former journalists of transforming into “activists-for-hire,” using digital platforms to push political agendas without verification. He insisted that upcoming laws would ensure accountability and prevent social media from being weaponized against the state.

“Part of our responsibility as a ministry is to ensure that social media is governed effectively. We are preparing new legislation to regulate these platforms and hold users accountable,” he added.

Mnangagwa’s Deepening Authoritarianism

Since ousting Robert Mugabe in a military coup in 2017, Mnangagwa initially portrayed himself as a reformist leader. However, his administration has been defined by increasing authoritarianism, the suppression of independent media, and a crackdown on opposition voices. COURT UPHOLDS ADMISSIBILITY OF AUDIT REPORT IN ZWL$137 MILLION GALWEX INVESTMENTS FRAUD CASE

Harare – In a significant development in the ongoing criminal trial involving Clark Clever Makoni and Beverly Aisha Ndonda Makoni, who stand accused of defrauding Galwex Investments (Pvt) Ltd of ZWL$137 million, the court has ruled in favour of admitting a key audit report as evidence.

The accused, who were contracted by Galwex Investments, a company linked to former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr Gideon Gono, are facing serious allegations of fraud, forgery, and theft stemming from their management of Valley Lodge in Mutare.

Presiding over the case, Magistrate Stanford Mambanje dismissed the defence’s objection to the admissibility of an internal audit report compiled by Galwex’s internal auditors. Magistrate Mambanje held that the document was procedurally prepared and fell within the bounds of relevant and admissible evidence.

“There is nothing irregular about tendering the report,” Magistrate Mambanje ruled. “It was compiled as part of routine internal company processes. Any questions about its authenticity will be addressed during cross-examination.”

Following the court’s ruling, State Prosecutor Heather Muwokoto proceeded to formally submit the report as an exhibit, marking a pivotal moment in the case against the Makonis.

The Allegations

The State alleges that the Makonis unlawfully altered the directorship of Valley Lodge, fraudulently registering the property under their own names and unlawfully withdrawing large sums from Galwex’s corporate accounts.

Prosecutors further allege that the accused manipulated CR14 forms—company documents used to reflect changes in company directorship—and submitted them to banks and other institutions to gain access to Valley Lodge’s financial resources.

In previous hearings, Ms. Muwokoto called the complainant’s internal auditor, Ms. Lindiwe Sabeka, who provided expert testimony on the irregularities uncovered by Galwex’s internal audit. Ms. Sabeka, a qualified forensic accountant, told the court that the accused had been engaged by Galwex solely as estate agents and managers for Valley Lodge.

“The accused were never authorised to alter ownership records or access company accounts,” Ms. Sabeka said, confirming that the audit revealed numerous financial discrepancies that implicated the Makonis.

Defence Challenge Overruled

Defence counsel Mr. Admire Rubaya had argued that the audit report lacked the formal certification of an independent public auditor and was therefore inadmissible. However, the court found that the report, being an internal document used in the ordinary course of business, satisfied the requirements of admissibility at this stage of proceedings.

Corroborating Witnesses

The State’s case has been further bolstered by independent witnesses, including Mr. Tonderai Karumbidza, a manager from ZB Bank. Mr. Karumbidza testified that the accused submitted forged CR14 forms, misrepresenting themselves as the new owners of Valley Lodge, and subsequently engaged in unauthorised withdrawals from the company’s accounts.

Additionally, Mrs. Lindsay Musukutwa, representing the Registrar of Companies, confirmed that official records at the Companies Office still list the Omar Family as the legitimate directors of Valley Lodge.

The court also heard evidence from Mr. Ayoob Omar, a key witness and former proprietor of Valley Lodge, who sold the property to Galwex Investments in 2009. Mr. Omar confirmed that his family remains the rightful directors of Valley Lodge and has never sanctioned any changes to the company’s ownership structure.

“We did not authorise any alterations to the directorship records. There are still unresolved matters between us and Galwex Investments,” Mr. Omar told the court.

Trial Adjournment

With the audit report now part of the official court record, the trial has been adjourned to March 28 for the continuation of proceedings, including the cross-examination of witnesses and the presentation of further evidence by both parties.

Legal Implications

The case highlights the increasing scrutiny over fraudulent manipulation of corporate records and the critical role of internal controls and forensic audits in exposing white-collar crime.

If convicted, the Makonis could face significant custodial sentences, given the scale of the alleged fraud and the breach of fiduciary duties linked to their management of Valley Lodge.

Govt Cracks Down on Land Barons, Tightens Title Deeds Programme

Harare – The Government has announced it will not issue title deeds for houses built on illegally allocated land by land barons, as part of a sweeping move to clamp down on fraudulent land deals and safeguard homeownership rights.

Speaking to state media, National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Zhemu Soda stressed that only settlements that meet regulatory standards and have essential infrastructure will be eligible for regularisation under the Kwangu/Ngakwami Presidential Title Deeds Programme.

“We are not issuing title deeds for houses built on land allocated by land barons,” said Minister Soda. “We are working with the Kwangu/Ngakwami Trust to mobilise resources for regularisation, including road construction and water and sewer system installations. Once assessments confirm a settlement is suitable, title deeds will be issued.”

The government’s stance comes amid concerns that rogue land barons are seeking to exploit the Presidential Title Deeds Programme, which aims to provide secure homeownership for ordinary Zimbabweans.

Minister Soda outlined that the Government, in partnership with the Kwangu/Ngakwami Trust, is prioritising infrastructure development in qualifying settlements, ensuring that only properties in compliant and properly serviced areas will be granted title deeds.

In a show of progress, the Government has already begun issuing 21,000 title deeds to homeowners in state-sanctioned housing schemes, with eligible citizens urged to visit district offices with identity documents, proof of payment, lease agreements, and sales agreements.

“Our ministry prepares the files, which are then sent to the Deeds Office for issuance,” Soda explained. “Significant progress has been made in Epworth, where the Kwangu/Ngakwami Trust has established field offices to facilitate the process.”

The initiative covers both Government housing schemes and State land distributed by local councils, with the goal of empowering homeowners, improving tenure security, and increasing property values.

Minister Soda also issued a strong warning to home-seekers, urging them to avoid intermediaries and deal directly with Government offices to avoid being duped by land barons.

“We urge citizens to take title deeds seriously and to avoid intermediaries. We work directly with citizens and do not want them to lose their money to unscrupulous activities by land barons,” he said.

As part of its broader commitment to improving housing delivery, the Government is also rolling out several projects across the country, including:
• The recently commissioned flats in Dzivaresekwa;
• Ongoing construction of four blocks of flats in Dombotombo, Marondera, set for completion by early 2025;
• New housing developments in Lupane to cater to its growing status as Matabeleland North’s provincial capital;
• Planned housing in Siakobvu and Mutawatawa for civil servants;
• The Crownlands project in Chinhoyi, which will provide over 1,000 serviced stands for Government employees.

Minister Soda reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to tackling housing challenges, reducing commuting costs for civil servants, and securing affordable homeownership for Zimbabweans.

“With various efforts underway, Zimbabwe’s housing sector is set for a major transformation,” Soda said. “But citizens must be cautious and only acquire properties through legal channels.”

The Government maintains that legal, well-serviced, and properly regulated housing developments remain key to securing Zimbabwe’s urban future.

ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa has found himself at the center of a political storm following a scathing attack on Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, in which he labeled him cruel, illiterate, and unelectable.

The harsh remarks have now prompted Chiwenga to seek a meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, demanding action against Mutsvangwa for his controversial statements.

Mutsvangwa’s comments, made in a leaked recording, have ignited tensions within ZANU PF, with the outspoken spokesperson targeting Chiwenga’s leadership and qualifications. He referred to Chiwenga as “cruel,” “illiterate,” and “an electoral liability,” remarks that have already caused a stir within the party.

Mutsvangwa’s criticisms appear to stem from personal ambitions, as he seeks to position himself as a potential leader of the party, viewing Chiwenga as an obstacle to achieving that goal.

A fatal confrontation occurred on a Chiredzi farm when a 19-year-old farm worker, Ask Ndhlovu, was struck on the forehead with a stone by a man accused of “poaching” the farm’s Wi-Fi.

The assailant, 22-year-old Moment Mavasa, has been arrested and charged with Ndhlovu’s murder.

According to Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson for Masvingo Province, the incident took place at Farm 3 in Hippo Valley.

Speaking at an inter-district meeting in Mazowe, Mashonaland Central Province, Zanu PF’s Chitepo School of Ideology principal, Munyaradzi Machacha, confirmed that the party’s resolution to keep Mnangagwa in power was being actively implemented through government channels.

He dismissed claims that the proposal sought to grant Mnangagwa a third term, clarifying that it aimed to extend his current leadership until 2030 to ensure stability and continuity.
“To facilitate the implementation of Resolution Number 1, a committee has been established, comprising provincial chairpersons from all 10 provinces, provincial political commissars, and representatives from all party wings,” Machacha explained. “This committee will work closely with the legal department to craft strategies, while Parliament explores ways to bring this resolution to life.”

As tensions escalate between Mnangagwa and his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, Zanu PF National Chairperson Oppah Muchinguri has stepped in to mediate the growing factional rift.

By Crime and Courts Reporter-A Harare magistrate, Munashe Chibanda, has convicted Takudzwa Munyawarara, the director of Exclusive Projects Private Limited, for defrauding Garwe Restaurant owner Mandy Mvukwe of US$48,000 in a failed mobile toilet import deal.

Munyawarara was sentenced to 18 months in jail, with 12 months suspended—six on condition of good behaviour and six upon restitution of the money by April 15.

He will serve an effective six-month jail term.

During the trial, the court heard that in May last year, Mvukwe sought to start a mobile toilet rental business and engaged Munyawarara, who claimed he could source and import the units from China.

The agreement was for 160 toilets at US$300 each, covering duty and transport.

On June 25, Munyawarara allegedly collected US$48,000 from Mvukwe’s house in the presence of a witness, promising delivery by the end of July 2023.

However, when the deadline passed, he became evasive.

Munyawarara denied the charges, claiming the allegations were fabricated to cover up an illegal transaction. However, the court found him guilty after trial.

These calls, according to Chamisa, are not mere conversations but often pleas for help. “Often, these calls are not just conversations, they are pleas for assistance, requests for guidance on finding a way to exit and escape to a perceived better life and future,” he explained.

He criticized the country’s leadership for failing to address the crisis, pointing out the negative impact of the brain drain on the nation’s future. “The sheer scale of brain drain we are experiencing is staggering. As a nation, we are hemorrhaging talent and gifts, losing the very citizens we have invested in and educated (with meager resources for that matter), to other economies, where they go to build and strengthen economies elsewhere.”

Chamisa described this as “plainly heartbreaking” and blamed the lack of leadership in the country. “Leadership is the missing link. Those in leadership have let the people down. The statements made which are awash on social media denigrating VP Chiwenga affects the reputation of the party and first secretary since Cde Mutsvangwa is a Party Spokeperson and everything that he says binds the party. As a concerned cadre the effects of such utterances has got a negative bearing which poses a security threat. Infact he seems to imply the President is above the law and can interfere with issues before the courts.

Cde Mutsvangwa in his utterances brought the party into disrepute and will now destabilise the political environment which will in turn affect the social life of the masses. The Direct attack on VP Chiwenga has got a negative implication on our international relations and the nation at large eroding the gains of the new dispensation.

Hon Vice President CDGN Chiwenga is a Presidential Appointee and the attacks by Cde Mutsvagwa might seem as if the President has made a mistake in Appointing him which is also a direct attack on President Mnangagwa.

We have lower level cadres who were expelled from the party due to purpoted social media abuse. I strongly advocate for a corrective action against Cde Mutsvangwa.

Such actions should be strongly condernmed as they undermine the Authority of Cde Chiwenga and cause serious divisions within the Zanu Pf party.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the duo operated the camp at Number 2165 Tokwane Close without proper registration under the Private Voluntary Organizations Act. They claimed to be providing “rehabilitation” services to children experiencing delinquency, but authorities assert that their activities were illegal and unauthorized. Allegedly, the accused admitted youths into the camp starting from December 6, 2023.

In addition to operating unlawfully, Chidawa and Manyepera are accused of impersonating child protection officers, a role legally reserved for qualified personnel tasked with counseling, supervision, and correcting behaviors associated with delinquency.

Councillor Maukazuva, who was represented by Paidamoyo Saurombe of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, was arrested by ZRP officers on Wednesday 12 March 2025, where he was accused of insulting President Mnangagwa, when he allegedly forwarded a Tiktok video clip on Chivhu Residents and Ratepayers Association WhatsApp group, showing a woman allegedly criticising President Mnangagwa for reportedly mismanaging the economy and also passing on some insulting messages against the ruling ZANU PF political party leader.

But on Friday 14 March 2025, prosecutors from the NPA withdrew charges against Councillor Maukazuva on the basis that they had not first obtained a certificate to prosecute from the Prosecutor-General, authorising them to take legal action against the opposition political party Councillor.

According to prosecutors, Councillor Maukazuva allegedly undermined authority of or insulted President Mnangagwa, when he allegedly circulated a Tiktok video clip containing some derogatory and vulgar language reportedly uttered by an unidentified woman, who was criticising the country’s leader.

Prosecutors claimed that Councillor Maukazuva’s conduct of allegedly forwarding the Tiktok video clip of the unidentified woman making some disparaging remarks against President Mnangagwa, including accusing him of bringing “misfortunes” among Zimbabweans and urging him to relinquish power to a “young person”, was unlawful.

A 67-year-old Shurugwi man, Twoboy Shamhu, appeared in court facing bestiality charges for having sex with his neighbor’s calf.

Shamhu claimed he was driven to the act due to being sex-starved by his girlfriend and the loss of his wife.
