Precautions For Pedestrians

As we welcome the New Year, many of us have made resolutions to prioritize our health and wellbeing.

For some, this means increasing our physical activity by walking more.

However, with the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s essential to remain vigilant and aware of our surroundings, especially when sharing the roads with vehicles.

To all pedestrians, be mindful of your surroundings and take necessary precautions to ensure your safety. Before stepping out, make sure to:

  • Be visible: Wear bright or reflective clothing, especially in low-light conditions.
  • Follow traffic rules: Obey pedestrian signals and crosswalks.
  • Stay alert: Avoid distractions like using your phone while walking.
  • Make eye contact: Engage with drivers before crossing the road to ensure they’ve seen you.

To all drivers, it’s crucial to be aware of pedestrians and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Remember to:

  • Slow down: Reduce your speed in busy areas, especially in school zones or neighborhoods.
  • Be vigilant: Keep an eye out for pedestrians, especially in low-light conditions.
  • Check your blind spots: Regularly check your mirrors and blind spots for pedestrians.
  • Yield to pedestrians: Always give pedestrians the right of way, especially at crosswalks.

Safety is a shared responsibility, and by working together, we can create a safer and more harmonious environment for everyone. Remember, safety never takes a holiday, so let’s make it a priority in 2025.

Tshabangu Fired

By Munancho Gwamanda- The fractured Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has fired its controversial secretary general, Sengezo Tshabangu.

Tshabangu, seen as a key figure in frustrating CCC founder Nelson Chamisa’s leadership, was dismissed shortly after the High Court reversed his controversial reshuffle of the party’s parliamentary roles.

In a statement by Kurauone Chihwayi, spokesperson of the divided faction, leader Welshman Ncube, Tshabangu has been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing.

This development marks the latest chapter in a series of clashes that have plunged the opposition party deeper into crisis.

The conflict escalated dramatically earlier this year when Advocate Nelson Chamisa announced his departure from the CCC, citing infiltration and internal sabotage.

Tshabangu, a controversial figure within the party, played a significant role in decisions that sidelined key Chamisa allies, further deepening divisions.

Tensions came to a head when the High Court overturned Tshabangu’s decision to strip lawmakers, including Konye, of their committee positions.

This judicial intervention has triggered yet another round of internal disputes, highlighting the fragility of the CCC under its current leadership.

List Of Mnangagwa’s 2024 Achievements An Insult to Suffering Citizens

By A Correspondent

Political observers have sharply criticized the list of achievements attributed to President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2024, published by Zanu PF’s Varakashi. These observers argue that the claims made are disconnected from the harsh realities faced by many Zimbabweans, calling them an insult to the citizens who continue to suffer.

On January 5, Dr. Juru heralded Mr. Mnangagwa’s so-called achievements, but critics assert that these announcements appear to be far removed from the daily struggles faced by the population…

Dr. Juru’s Statement: Heralding President ED Mnangagwa’s Achievements in 2024

By Dr. Ruru
January 5, 2025

As Zimbabwe enters the new year, it is deemed essential to reflect on the significant progress made under President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa’s leadership throughout 2024. According to his administration, numerous initiatives have been launched to revitalize the economy, improve public services, and foster national unity.

On a macroeconomic level, 2024 witnessed a notable shift in Zimbabwe’s economic environment. The government’s commitment to economic reforms is credited with a projected GDP growth rate of 5%, driven by improvements in agriculture, mining, and tourism. The Zimbabwe Economic Recovery Plan (ZERP) was touted as a critical factor in attracting foreign investment, with multiple international companies establishing operations in the country.

Infrastructure Developments

2024 also marked significant strides in infrastructure development.

The administration reportedly invested heavily in improving the nation’s infrastructure, including addressing long-standing issues like student accommodation shortages at institutions such as the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT). These upgrades are claimed to improve living conditions for students and provide a more conducive learning environment.

Additionally, President Mnangagwa prioritized the creation of innovation hubs across Zimbabwe to foster entrepreneurship. These centers are purportedly designed to support startups by offering resources, mentorship, and technology access, in turn driving economic growth and job creation.

In the urban road sector, projects aimed at reducing congestion in Harare and Bulawayo were highlighted. Examples like The Boulevard and the Second Street Extension are presented as key developments that facilitate smoother transportation and economic activity.

Agricultural Modernization

The government’s focus on agricultural modernization was another cornerstone of 2024. Investments in irrigation, along with better access to seeds and fertilizers, are said to have improved crop yields and food security.

According to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Authority (ZBC), 1.6 million hectares of maize have been planted, falling short of the 1.8 million-hectare target. The government has also encouraged farmers to plant early-maturity crops, aligning with the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development’s “Food Security, Everywhere, Every Day” initiative.

Healthcare Improvements

The administration has also touted improvements in healthcare access, with new clinics constructed in rural areas and ongoing efforts to improve hospital facilities. Initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare personnel training and retention have been part of these developments.

Education Investments

In the education sector, significant resources have been allocated to improving schools and universities. This is framed as an effort to prepare future generations to be competitive in the global economy.

However, political analysts have raised concerns that Zanu PF and Mnangagwa are playing mind games to further suppress the citizenry.

The government’s emphasis on such achievements may be seen as a diversion tactic, preventing genuine change and undermining efforts to address the deep-rooted issues affecting ordinary Zimbabweans.

In conclusion, while the government’s claims of progress in 2024 may point to future growth, many Zimbabweans continue to experience a starkly different reality. Political observers emphasize the need for more immediate and tangible actions to address the daily struggles faced by the populace.

The disconnect between the official narrative and the lived experience of many citizens remains a key point of contention.

WestProp Teases Special Deals For Home Buyers

By Business Reporter-The year 2025 promises exciting developments and offerings at WestProp Holdings across all its construction sites.

At Pomona City, less than 20 stand-alone residential plots remain ahead of the construction of apartment blocks at the live, work, shop and play-themed US$4 billion estate.

Construction of the requisite infrastructure, such as roads, water, wastewater, and drainage facilities, has been done with stand owners having access to their plots.

The development of apartment units is expected to begin in the last quarter, with customers already buying into the units off-plan during the same period.

Once the agreed threshold for each apartment block is reached – construction begins.

Late last year, an open day was held to allow customers first-hand insights into one of the futuristic apartment dwellings in Harare North.

Pomona City is one of the premium developments by WestProp that bring together all the facilities and utilities of a city into one compact settlement.

Some key features of the Pomona apartments include spacious 2 to 4-bedroom units with modern finishes, a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence-powered security system, a swimming pool, a gym and other recreational amenities.

When built and completed, the estate will have a shopping mall adorned with fine dining facilities, general eateries, banks, and anchor supermarkets, among other pull factor facilities.

WestProp chief executive officer Mr Ken Sharpe is upbeat with this year’s project pipeline noting that 2025 “is our year” in terms of achieving excellence and set timelines.

So far, Pokugara Estate is sold out, allowing the company to redirect efforts to The Hills Luxury Golf Estate, Millennium Heights and Pomona City.

Construction of the redesigned golf course at the Luxury Hills Golf Estate is taking shape, hyping the excitement in the golf community.

This year, we will also witness the start of the construction of amenities at some of the estates to bring into focus the play aspect of the live, work, shop, and play themes.

School Authorities Vow To Reject “Useless” ZiG

By A Correspondent

A heated debate is unfolding in Zimbabwe as school authorities push back against a government directive prohibiting schools from forcing parents to pay fees exclusively in foreign currency.

The directive, issued by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration, aims to address concerns over foreign currency payments.

Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana clarified the government’s stance, stating that parents are free to pay fees in any currency of their choice, given Zimbabwe’s multi-currency regime.

However, school heads in Masvingo have expressed strong criticism, with one remarking that the directive is “misplaced” and will “trigger chaos.”

Another school head doubted the feasibility of the directive, calling it “practically impossible” .

The debate has spilled over onto social media, with some users voicing frustrations with the government’s stance. Critics argue that the government’s directive is unrealistic, given the country’s currency challenges.

For instance, Fumai Mufakose pointed out that “schools don’t run on political rhetoric, and boarding schools can’t feed students with a useless currency”.

The Zimbabwean government introduced the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency in April 2024, which is backed by a composite basket of foreign currency reserves and precious metals.

Despite this, many schools and parents prefer to use foreign currency for transactions, citing concerns over the local currency’s value.

As the debate continues, the government and school authorities must find common ground on managing school fees amidst the country’s ongoing currency challenges.

CCC Suspends Tshabangu Amid Deepening Drama

By A Correspondent

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), led by Professor Welshman Ncube, has suspended the membership of Sengezo Tshabangu just hours after the High Court reversed his controversial removal of Karenyi Konye and others from Parliament’s Standing Rules Committee.

In a statement released on Wednesday, CCC acting president Professor Ncube announced the suspension of Tshabangu, stating that the decision was made in light of recent events.

Tshabangu’s suspension is pending a disciplinary hearing, which will be conducted in accordance with the party’s internal processes, said CCC presidential spokesperson, Kurauone Chihwayi.

The drama within the party intensified when Tshabangu’s actions were overruled by the High Court, which reversed his decision to remove Konye and others from their committee positions. The move has sparked a series of conflicts, which have further deepened the political crisis within the opposition.

At the beginning of 2024, tensions within the CCC took a dramatic turn when the party’s leader, Advocate Nelson Chamisa, announced his departure from the formation, citing heavy infiltration.

This latest move to suspend Tshabangu signals the continued infighting within the CCC as it grapples with internal divisions. The crisis appears to be escalating, leaving the party’s future uncertain as it faces mounting internal and external pressures.

Government, School Authorities Clash Over Payment of Fees

By A Correspondent

The Zimbabwean government and school authorities are at odds over a recent directive that schools should not compel parents to pay fees in foreign currency.

Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration issued the directive in an attempt to address the growing concern over foreign currency payments.

On Thursday morning, government spokesperson Nick Mangwana issued a statement clarifying the government’s position:

“No school should force any parent to pay fees or levies exclusively in foreign currency. Parents are free to pay in any currency of their choice, as Zimbabwe operates under a multi-currency regime.”

However, the directive has sparked backlash from school heads in Masvingo, with many expressing strong criticism. One school head remarked:

“The directive is misplaced as it will trigger chaos.”

Another school head also expressed doubts, stating:

“It’s practically impossible.”

The tension between the government and school authorities has ignited heated debate on social media. Some users voiced their frustrations with the government’s stance. For example, social media user B Maps responded:

“But you force citizens to pay in US dollars at toll gates or passport offices.”

Fumai Mufakose added:

“Payment in foreign currency is only a realistic act. Schools don’t run on political rhetoric, and boarding schools can’t feed students with a useless currency. Secretary @nickmangwana, your kids were paying hard currency—of all hard currencies, the British pound.”

In a similar vein, Leader General commented:

“Obviously, the failed regime is the one forcing us to pay exclusively in foreign currency. We have no local currency to even talk about. There’s no need to grandstand blaming schools, Nick.”

The debate continues to unfold as the government and school authorities struggle to find common ground on how best to manage school fees amidst the country’s ongoing currency challenges.

19 Hippos Die of Malnutrition

By A Correspondent| 19 hippos have tragically died in Zimbabwe’s Mid Zambezi Region, with preliminary investigations revealing that severe malnutrition was the primary cause. The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) confirmed in a press statement that no signs of anthrax or other infectious diseases were found in samples tested during the investigation.

Approximately 50% of the hippo population in the region was observed to be in poor physical condition, characterized by prominently visible pelvic bones and spines—classic indicators of nutritional deficiencies.

ZimParks noted that some hippos had been traveling up to 10 kilometers from their natural habitat in desperate search of food, further underlining the severity of the food shortage.

“The recent rainfall in the region brings hope for the recovery of the hippo population,” said Tinashe Farawo, ZimParks spokesperson. “However, the findings strongly suggest that most of the deaths were caused by severe nutritional deficits rather than infectious diseases.”

Tshabangu Suffers Big Blow

By Crime and Courts Reporter- The High Court has dealt a significant blow to controversial CCC “interim” secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu, barring him from reshuffling party parliamentarians.

Justice Neville Wamambo’s ruling came after CCC acting president Welshman Ncube filed an urgent application, accusing Tshabangu of overstepping his authority by orchestrating back-door recalls.

The court found Tshabangu’s actions, including removing Lynette Karenyi Kore, Sessel Zvidzai, and Edwin Mushoriwa from the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO), amounted to unlawful recalls in defiance of a prior court judgment.

The judge also declared Tshabangu’s appointment of Nonhlanhla Mlotshwa as “chief whip” unconstitutional, noting such a position does not exist under Zimbabwe’s laws.

Sengezo Tshabangu has been a divisive figure within the opposition CCC, accused of being a Zanu PF agent planted to destabilise the party.

His meteoric rise, self-declaration as interim secretary-general, and unilateral recalls of over 100 councillors and dozens of MPs since the August 2023 elections have raised suspicions of infiltration.

Critics within the CCC argue that Tshabangu’s actions align suspiciously with Zanu PF’s interests, as they have undermined the party’s parliamentary strength and forced costly by-elections.

In his court application, Welshman Ncube accused Tshabangu of colluding with Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda, a Zanu PF stalwart, to expedite the changes without the party’s approval.

The controversy surrounding Tshabangu deepened when he unilaterally appointed himself the opposition’s overall parliamentary leader, sidelining senior party members and jeopardising the CCC’s internal cohesion.

The CCC had previously secured a judgment from Justice Tawanda Chitapi (case number HH 652/23), barring Tshabangu from initiating further recalls until his legal authority is determined.

However, Tshabangu continued to act against this order, prompting Welshman Ncube’s latest legal challenge.

Justice Wamambo’s ruling underscores the illegitimacy of Tshabangu’s maneuvers, reversing his latest appointments and reshuffles.

The CCC’s leadership crisis remains a critical issue, with the party accusing Tshabangu of working to weaken opposition efforts while acting as a covert ally of Zanu PF.

End Of The Road For Sengezo Tshabangu

By A Correspondent| The Citizens Coalition for Change led by Professor Welshman Ncube says it has suspended the membership of Sengezo Tshabangu, just hours after the High Court reversed Tshabangu’s purported removal of Karenyi Konye and others from parliament’s standing rules committee.

With the support of the Zanu PF regime, Tshabangu has single-handedly destroyed the opposition CCC by recalling legislators in the process giving Zanu PF a two-thirds majority in parliament.

He is now calling for the postponement of elections to 2030 saying this will give enough time to Mnangagwa to finish his projects, something that can only be said by Zanu PF people.

Valencio Mondlane Returns to Mozambique, Kneels at Airport Holding Bible in Defiant Gesture Against Electoral Fraud

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Maputo, Mozambique – A powerful scene unfolded this morning at Mavalane International Airport as presidential candidate Valencio Mondlane made his highly anticipated return to Mozambique. Following weeks spent in Europe amidst political turmoil, Mondlane landed in Maputo and immediately knelt at the airport’s exit doors while clutching a Bible in a poignant display of faith, defiance, and solidarity with his supporters.

He then swiftly announced his oath of office. (video)

Valencio Mondlane kneeling down

The dramatic moment comes after Mondlane had previously announced his return via a live video, citing his intention to confront the government directly over allegations of electoral fraud and violence against his followers. This marks Mondlane’s first public appearance since his lawyer was fatally shot during a legal battle challenging the disputed election results.

A Rallying Cry for Justice

Addressing his supporters prior to his arrival, Mondlane declared that he was returning not out of fear, but as a “spearhead” of a movement seeking justice and transparency. His speech resonated with many who accuse the government of orchestrating violence and manipulating the election process. Mondlane’s fiery rhetoric challenged those in power, particularly Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is accused of interfering in Mozambique’s elections by facilitating the registration of fake voters.

“My body is at your disposal. Kill me, arrest me, do what you want. But my fight will never die,” Mondlane stated emphatically. He further called on Mozambicans to meet him at the airport as a sign of solidarity, urging them to wear black or white to honor the memory of the hundreds of protestors who have died in recent months.

Crowds Gather in Support

Mondlane was met with a massive crowd of supporters who had gathered at the airport early in the morning. Many carried banners, chanted slogans, and wore the symbolic black and white outfits as requested. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as Mondlane’s kneeling act underscored his commitment to his cause and his people. The Bible he held symbolized his reliance on faith in the face of adversity.

Security forces monitored the gathering closely, though the event remained peaceful. Mondlane’s arrival marks a pivotal moment in the political landscape of Mozambique as the nation awaits his next move in the wake of alleged corruption and voter suppression.

A Nation at a Crossroads

Mozambique is at a critical juncture as allegations of election tampering continue to overshadow the political climate. The Frelimo government, which has been in power for decades, faces mounting accusations of stifling dissent and silencing opposition voices. Mondlane’s return has reignited the hopes of many Mozambicans who are calling for change, transparency, and accountability.

As Mondlane’s supporters await his next address, the international community will be watching closely to see how the government responds to his defiance. The stakes are high, and the coming days may determine whether Mozambique can resolve its political crisis peacefully or descend into further unrest.

This story is developing. Stay tuned for updates.

Mnangagwa Declares Munhumutapa Day As A New Public Holiday

By Munacho Gwamanda-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has introduced a new public holiday to Zimbabwe’s calendar, naming it Munhumutapa Day

The holiday, set for September 15, 2025, pays homage to the historical Mutapa Kingdom but has sparked debate over its political undertones.

Critics argue that Mnangagwa is using this public holiday to consolidate power and craft his legacy while sidelining the history of former President Robert Mugabe.

Since his ascent to power through a military coup in November 2017, Mnangagwa has actively renamed streets, buildings, and national landmarks, even commissioning statues of himself and historical figures like Mbuya Nehanda to assert influence.

In an official announcement, the government formalised the holiday under General Notice 954 of 2024, invoking Section 2(1) of the Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Act [Chapter 10:21]. Citizens were reminded that under Section 2(2) of the same law, the president holds the authority to declare public holidays at any time.

The government warned businesses against contravening the Act, stating that violations could result in fines, imprisonment of up to six months, or both.

The Mutapa Kingdom, which flourished after the decline of Great Zimbabwe, symbolised African sovereignty and resistance.

Founded by Nyatsimba Mutota in the 15th century, the kingdom controlled vast trade networks and centralised governance.

The legacy of the Mutapa Kingdom inspired Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, with nationalist leaders drawing on its history of resistance to foreign domination to mobilise support.

By invoking this heritage, Mnangagwa seeks to cement his narrative of national pride, albeit amid controversy over its true intent.

Observers remain divided, with some celebrating the recognition of African history.

In contrast, others criticise the holiday as a political manoeuvre designed to overshadow past leaders and divert attention from pressing national issues.

“ED Rot Orders” Minister Garwe Says Harare’s Now Rotten

By Farai D Hove | Harare, Zimbabwe – Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe, the official tasked with overseeing the destruction of the nation’s municipalities, has accused the Harare City Council of being “rotten” and “corrupt.”

Garwe is an attendant of ZANU-PF party leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa’s orders to dominate local authority governance by disrupting service delivery of all councils run by opposition parties.

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s instruction to destroy councils | video

In an incendiary video, President Mnangagwa states saying, “all service delivery issues needing attention of the MDC, it doesn’t matter which MDC, must be stopped and they must crash at Harvest House building.”

Addressing the media at an event organized by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere, Garwe delivered a scathing critique of Harare’s opposition-led council. “City of Harare is a problem… it is corrupt, it is being run by corrupt people that must be brought to book,” said Garwe. The minister accused council officials of mismanagement and claimed the central government would intervene to restore “order and sanity.”

Harare’s Infrastructure in Decline

Garwe’s accusations come amid a backdrop of worsening infrastructure in the city. Harare has been plagued by issues such as sewer bursts, water shortages, uncollected garbage, poor street lighting, and a dysfunctional billing system. Corruption allegations have further tarnished the council’s reputation. Garwe used these issues as justification for the ongoing Commission of Inquiry tasked with determining the central government’s next steps regarding the council.

Government Interference or Genuine Concern?

Critics argue that the central government, dominated by ZANU-PF, has played a significant role in the deterioration of local councils. ZANU-PF’s alleged strategy, as revealed during the event, aims to undermine opposition-led councils to consolidate political power. This has led many to question the sincerity of Garwe’s remarks, as his ministry holds the constitutional mandate to ensure proper municipal governance.

The minister’s remarks also addressed recent eviction controversies. The Harare City Council had issued 48-hour notices to demolish over 5,000 houses built on land earmarked for public amenities. Garwe criticized the council, stating, “If they try to demolish the houses, they would see what would happen to them.” He defended the central government’s intervention by accusing council officials of supervising the illegal constructions from the start.

Financial Mismanagement Allegations

Further highlighting the council’s alleged failings, Garwe pointed to financial mismanagement, including the rejection of a cost-effective US$350,000 locally-developed ERP system in favor of a US$2.1 million foreign system. Additionally, he claimed the council was complicit in irregular transactions with suppliers, such as a water treatment chemicals deal that resulted in a US$816,000 shortfall.

ZANU-PF’s Broader Strategy

The minister’s comments align with a broader ZANU-PF strategy to portray opposition-led councils as ineffective. Observers note that this tactic has been used to justify increased central government interference and, ultimately, to erode opposition control over local authorities. This approach has left many Zimbabweans questioning whether the government is genuinely addressing municipal failures or exploiting the situation for political gain.

As the battle for control over Harare’s governance intensifies, residents continue to bear the brunt of deteriorating services and political power plays. Whether the central government’s intervention will bring solutions or further deepen the crisis remains to be seen.

Tshabangu Connives With Zanu PF, Pushes For Election Postponement To 2030

By A Correspondent – The Sengezo Tshabangu-led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) faction has joined forces with Zanu PF to advocate for postponing the next harmonized elections from 2028 to 2030, a move aimed at extending President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule.

Zanu PF formally adopted the resolution to extend Mnangagwa’s mandate during its National People’s Conference held in Bulawayo in October last year.

The decision aligns with Mnangagwa’s bootlickers who want to sideline his (Mnangagwa) deputy Constantino Chiwenga whom he had a succession agreement after the 2017 coup that displaced President Mugabe.

Tshabangu-led CCC Chief Whip Charles Moyo openly endorsed the proposal, citing the need to ensure the smooth implementation of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which is set to be launched this November.

“As CCC, we are lobbying for the deferment of elections. We are proposing dialogue between CCC and the revolutionary party Zanu PF,” Moyo stated.

When pressed on the ideal timeline for the postponement, Moyo suggested deferring the 2028 harmonized elections to 2030.

“Deferment to 2030 would be ideal as it aligns with the implementation of NDS2,” he added, emphasizing that the period should be used to foster national unity, consensus-building, and improved service delivery.

The NDS2 framework, designed to guide Zimbabwe’s development agenda, is slated to run from 2023 to 2030.

Tshabangu’s alignment with Zanu PF and his advocacy for election deferment have fueled accusations of betrayal within opposition circles, with critics alleging a deliberate attempt to dismantle democratic processes in favour of Mnangagwa’sprolonged rule-State media

Schools Not Allowed To Charge Fees In Forex

Harare – The Government has issued a stern warning to school authorities against engaging in unethical practices, including demanding full fees in foreign currency, turning away learners for non-payment, and soliciting bribes for placements.

This announcement was made by Primary and Secondary Education Permanent Secretary, Mr. Moses Mhike, in response to mounting complaints from parents as schools prepare to reopen next week.

Mr. Mhike emphasized that school fees must be payable in local currency, in line with the Secretary’s Circular No. 10 of 2022. “No school should force any parent to pay fees or levies exclusively in foreign currency. Parents are free to pay in any currency of their choice, as Zimbabwe operates under a multi-currency regime,” he said.

To address value preservation concerns, Mr. Mhike explained that if fees are pegged in foreign currency, parents must be allowed to pay in local currency at the prevailing interbank rate on the day of payment.

Uniforms and Stationery Freedoms Reaffirmed

Mr. Mhike also clarified that parents have the freedom to purchase school uniforms and stationery from any supplier, as long as the items meet school specifications. He warned school heads against forcing parents to buy these items exclusively from the schools, a practice some parents have complained about.

“School heads and responsible authorities must strictly adhere to these directives to protect parents from exploitation,” Mr. Mhike said. He further revealed that inspectors will be deployed to ensure compliance with these regulations.

Concerns Over Exploitation

Some schools have come under fire for charging exorbitant fees, demanding payment exclusively in foreign currency, and sidelining learners on the Government’s Basic Education Assistance Model (BEAM). Parents have also accused schools of cashing in by selling uniforms and stationery at inflated prices.

The Zimbabwe National Union of School Heads (ZINUSH) Secretary-General, Mr. Munyaradzi Majoni, acknowledged parents’ concerns but urged them to settle fees promptly to facilitate smooth school operations.

“We anticipate a smooth opening of schools next week. Administrators are finalizing preparations for a seamless transition into the first term of 2025. Parents are encouraged to pay their fees in full by the first day of school,” Mr. Majoni said.

He also highlighted the need for workshops to train teachers on the heritage-based curriculum syllabus, which was introduced late last year. “Workshops are vital for the effective implementation of this curriculum,” he added.

Police Urge Enhanced School Security

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has warned schools against keeping large amounts of cash on their premises, as criminals are increasingly targeting educational institutions during this period.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, advised schools to bank fees promptly and enhance security measures by employing guards from reputable firms. “We urge school authorities to step up security at schools to deter criminals, especially during this time when parents are paying fees,” he said.

The Government’s strict stance on unethical practices aims to shield parents and learners from exploitation while ensuring a smooth start to the new school term. As schools prepare to reopen on Tuesday, the spotlight remains on ensuring accountability and ethical conduct across the education sector.

Latest On HMPV Outbreak

By A Correspondent

China is facing a significant rise in cases of a respiratory virus, causing overcrowded hospitals, the introduction of new monitoring protocols, and growing public anxiety about a potential outbreak.

The virus, known as human metapneumovirus (HMPV), has seen a sharp increase in infections across northern provinces, with children being particularly affected this winter.

This new wave comes five years after the global alert about the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, which ultimately triggered a pandemic, resulting in seven million deaths worldwide.

Social media has been flooded with images and videos showing people wearing masks in Chinese hospitals, with local reports drawing parallels to the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response, health authorities have implemented new measures to track and manage pneumonia cases of unknown origin.

However, Beijing has sought to downplay the situation, suggesting it is part of the usual winter pattern.

On Friday, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated, “Respiratory infections generally peak during the winter months. The diseases appear to be less severe and spread on a smaller scale than last year.”

What is HMPV?

Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a respiratory infection that resembles the symptoms of a cold or flu. While most cases are mild, the virus can lead to serious complications like pneumonia, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Church Leader Steals US$21K Tithes

By Religion Reporter- An administrator with SHALOM Church’s Westlea Assembly has been arrested for allegedly stealing US$21,904 in tithes and offerings.

Chipo Molly Machokonera, employed as an administration secretary, appeared before Harare magistrate Isheanesu Matova on Monday, facing theft charges.

She was not asked to plead.

The court heard that between January 2023 and December 10, 2024, Machokonera was responsible for receiving, receipting, and depositing money collected from congregants.

Instead, she allegedly diverted the funds for personal use and submitted fake deposit slips to the church’s pastor, claiming she had banked the money at Steward Bank’s Joina City branch.

ZEC Chief Buyer In Mysterious Death

By Munacho Gwamanda- A top official with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has died.

On Wednesday, the Commission announced the death of its Acting Chief Procurement Officer, Simbisai Mutimba, but did not disclose the cause.

Mutimba, who joined ZEC in 2018, died on January 2, 2025.

Her career trajectory within ZEC saw her rise swiftly through the ranks from Administration Officer for Bindura District to Acting Chief Procurement Officer at the Commission’s Head Office.

ZEC issued a statement mourning her death, saying:

“The Honourable Chairperson Mrs. Justice Priscilla Makanyara Chigumba, the Deputy Chairperson Ambassador Rodney Simukai Kiwa, Commissioners, the Acting Chief Elections Officer Mr. Simbarashe Tongayi, and the entire Commission staff would like to express their sincere condolences to the Mutimba family on the untimely demise of Ms. Simbisai Mutimba. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”

Mutimba’s death comes as ZEC remains under intense public scrutiny over its history of controversial election management, allegations of voter suppression, and accusations of facilitating election rigging.

Since its formation, the Commission has faced repeated claims of bias in favour of the ruling Zanu PF party.

Critics argue that ZEC’s opaque processes, including its procurement systems for election materials, are key instruments of electoral manipulation.

In the lead-up to the 2024 general election, ZEC faced backlash for alleged irregularities in the delimitation of electoral boundaries, discrepancies in the voters’ roll, and opaque procurement of ballot papers—areas reportedly overseen by the procurement department Mutimba led.

These controversies further eroded public trust in the body tasked with upholding Zimbabwe’s democracy.

While tributes pour in for Mutimba, questions linger about the operational integrity of ZEC, with many wondering if the Commission will ever shake off its reputation as a partisan tool of the state.

Harare Man Stoned To Death Over Gay Slur

By Crime and Courts Reporter- A Harare man has been killed in a violent altercation after mocking another man as gay for wearing earrings.

Maxwell Mahanzu (32) was struck with a stone and died instantly at the Boka Bus Terminus along the Harare-Masvingo Road on Monday.

Police spokespersons confirmed the arrest of Benedict Ruebena, who is now facing murder charges.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said:
“On 06/01/25, Police in Harare arrested Benedict Ruebena in connection with a case of murder which occurred at Boka Bus terminus along Harare-Masvingo Road. The suspect hit the victim, Maxwell Mahanzu (32), with a stone after the victim mocked him, claiming that he was gay since he was wearing earrings. The victim died on the spot.”

In Zimbabwe, calling someone gay is often viewed as a serious insult in a country where anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments are deeply ingrained.

This hostility has roots in the rhetoric of former President Robert Mugabe, who openly denounced homosexuality, calling gay people “worse than dogs and pigs.”

Despite global efforts to normalise LGBTQ+ rights, Zimbabwe remains a country where such accusations can ignite deadly confrontations, underscoring the need for deeper societal introspection and tolerance.

Nelson Chamisa Sends Bold Message to Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent

On Monday, Zimbabwean opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa shared a succinct statement signaling his plans for the year ahead, revealing that he was “recharging” as 2025 unfolds.

His brief message, however, has been interpreted by political analysts as a direct and powerful statement aimed at President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling Zanu PF party.

Chamisa’s statement read: “RECHARGING… Nature is soothing! Be blessed!”

The message, while brief, carries a deeper implication, with some observers suggesting it may be a subtle signal of Chamisa’s readiness to continue challenging Mnangagwa’s leadership in the coming year.

Mnangagwa Is Providing Daily Bread, Something Smith’s Regime Failed to Do: Zanu PF

By A Correspondent

Zanu PF Information Director, Farai Marapira, has slammed critics who argue that Ian Smith’s regime was better than President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.

Marapira described such assertions as “stupidity” and warned those who dare to suggest that the new dispensation is causing more harm than good to citizens.

In a recent statement Marapira said :

“It’s sheer stupidity to say Ian Smith was better than President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Common day food items like bread were Christmas delicacies, remember that,” Marapira said, highlighting the struggles faced by Zimbabweans during Smith’s rule.

Marapira’s comments come amid a heated debate on social media, where some Zimbabweans have been comparing the two regimes.

While some argue that Smith’s government was more efficient and less corrupt, others, like Marapira, vehemently disagree.

An opposition MP has also weighed in on the debate, emphasizing that Zimbabwe’s liberation war was fought for the empowerment of all citizens, not just the replacement of one elite with another.

“Liberation means one man, one vote – not stolen elections.

Liberation means freedom from state-sponsored violence – not replacing a violent Rhodesian Special Branch with your own violent police force,” she said.

Walter Magaya Introduces Fake Miracle Cash Card

By Religion Reporter-Disgraced religious leader Walter Magaya, notorious for scandals ranging from fraud to alleged sexual abuse, has introduced a so-called “Miracle Cash Card,” claiming it has the power to heal and deliver its users.

Magaya, the founder of the controversial Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries, insists that those who “respect and make sacrifices” to acquire the card will experience its miraculous benefits.

In his announcement, Magaya stated:

“It is anointing that you respect that will work for you. Respect is found in sacrifice. If one comes all the way from Bulawayo to attend a service to get a card, that sacrifice, I tell you, will get the anointing to work. If one meditates and takes their time, it will work. If one takes out money and says, ‘This is my seed towards this anointing,’ that anointing will work because you will honor it and respect where your money is.”

Magaya also claimed the cards have already been shipped to South Africa, Botswana, Australia, and other countries.

He encouraged his followers to use the cards during prayer sessions for maximum effect.

Magaya’s pastoral career has been fraught with controversy and criminal allegations.

Investigative reports by ZimEye over the years have exposed numerous scandals, including Facilitating the killings of whistleblowers who sought to expose wrongdoing within his church. Rape allegations, with multiple female congregants accusing him of sexual assault. Fraudulent claims, such as the 2019 debacle when he falsely claimed to have discovered a cure for HIV and AIDS. Magaya promoted a herbal drug called AGUMA, which was swiftly debunked by health authorities, leading to his arrest, a US$700 fine, and a public apology. Launching bizarre “miracle products,” including a lipstick, he claimed could improve health conditions and transporting congregants’ prayer notes to Israel under questionable circumstances.

Magaya’s latest scheme with the “Miracle Cash Card” has been met with widespread scepticism, with critics labelling it yet another exploitative tactic to extort money from vulnerable followers.

Despite his tarnished reputation, Magaya maintains a loyal following, many of whom are drawn by promises of miraculous healings and financial blessings. Observers warn, however, that such schemes often prey on the desperate and financially unstable, enriching the preacher at the expense of his flock.

Legislator Taken To Task Over Support For Chamisa While Dining With Tshabangu

By A Correspondent| An opposition legislator Corban Madzivanyika has been taken to task after he took to social media to heap praise on former Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa.

New Police Boss Purges Matanga Allies

By A Correspondent| The newly appointed Police chief, Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba is making sweeping changes to the Police amid rumors that officers perceived to be aligned to the just retired Commissioner General Godwin Matanga are being purged to positions of less influence.

The sources also linked the changes to political factions in Zanu PF and the 2030 agenda. Last week National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi had to issue a statement dispelling rumours that Matanga was resisting retirement.

Unusual to Police tradition, Mutamba is carrying out the transfers quietly with no notices to the rest of the force.

“Police officers wake up in the morning to see a new Police boss. This is how secretive Mutamba’s appointments are taking place,” said a source.

Those affected are from the rank of Superintendent to Commissioner.

The most notable transfer is that of Commissioner Crispen Charumbira who has been transferred back to CID after he was removed a few years ago following allegations of misconduct. He was until this week, Officer Commanding Masvingo. He was cleared of the charges that he was facing.

“Commissioner Charumbira is back in Harare and he has called for a meeting of all chief superintendents in the CID at the Police Headquarters tomorrow,” said a source.

One source said that Charumbira is earmarked to become Mutamba’s Deputy Commissioner General. Another Commissioner, a Ms Philipe removed from CID by Matanga has been transferred back.

Commissioner Nyabasa who was Officer Commanding CID and allegedly aligned to Matanga has been transferred to Mat North. It is generally thought in the Police force that senior officers are sent to Mat North as punishment.

The other commissioners that Mutamba transferred are Nyirenda to Mash Central, Nyakutsikwa to PI, Sithole to Chiadzwa, Hlabiso to Electronic Traffic Management, Ndou to Monitoring and Evaluation, Chizemo to Bulawayo, Mbengwa to Masvingo, AC Zengeya acting CSO Transport and Tembo back to PGHQ Training and Development, Tshuma back to Staff College and Makamache to Anti Stock Theft.

Knowing When to Leave the Presidency

By Costain Banda| It is wise for wise people to leave on their own initiative and when their country is thriving and not when the court or people ask them to step down. It should be noted that former Presidents can be effective opinion makers long after leaving office.
Power is sweet when all are happy and everything is on the letter of the law.

Zimbabwe is very lucky to have the president who is serving his institution well and we are hoping that he can go on forever. Unfortunately, many people who think this way sometimes end up having a belief that good service must be rewarded by over staying. They do not in anyway suggest that maybe it’s time for the good leader to retire or move on.
No one wants to be blindsided like this. All of us would prefer to leave on our own initiative, preferably when we are at the top of our game and our country is thriving, not when the people ask him to step down. So even if things seem to be going well, there are questions one might ask each year on the anniversary of his appointment as president.

Is our president still getting along with his people. Because successful presidency and economies are the result of a partnership between the president and the people,it’s important occasionally to do a reality check whether our relationship with the grassroots , is still positive. Not that there won’t be moments of discord. But if suddenly a definite and/or irreconcilable divide occurs between us and them or if a new situation arrives with whom we are incompatible, we might want to take stock of our situation.

Am I still enjoying the job? The presidency is difficult, but it should also be pleasurable. There are too many presidents who in their last term will tell you they can’t stand the job anymore. They have gotten into a repetitive cycle of way of life that is predictable to the point of being monotonous, but they are nevertheless hanging on. Some would hang on because power is sweet. Progressive economies need high-octane leaders who are enthusiastic and energetic, not people who no longer enjoy the job and wish they could be somewhere else. It needs a button to be passed on to another. The best way to serve is to give your team mate the chance to develop and mordenize your developments. Projects succeed when the project manager owns it communally.

Does the country have new or different needs now? The needs of a country change over time. Perhaps the country elected you because you had a special expertise at that point in time the country needed someone who could manage and balance the budget. It took ten years, but now your country is not only in good order but thriving. Now what it needs is a president who can participate with the maintaining the development you have brought about which is perhaps not your strong suit. If that is the case, you need to ask yourself whether you have the ability and/or the inclination to adjust to the changing needs of your country.
But asking these questions could also cause you to see the beginning signs that it’s maybe time to reconsider your situation.

The vibe from within the party to amend the constitution is not only irresponsible but also dangerous for the nation. Amending a nation’s constitution to extend the tenure of a president is not only a dangerous precedent but also a betrayal of the democratic principles upon which the nation stands. The notion that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s success is a valid justification for amending the constitution to allow him to serve beyond the two term limit is deeply flawed. The president has maintained that he is a constitutionalist and will not stay a day longer in the office. The President has explained clearly that, the constitution is the supreme law of the land, designed to provide a framework for governance that ensures stability, fairness, and the protection of citizens’ rights. It should not be subject to manipulation for the benefit of any individual, regardless of their achievements or popularity. If we argue that a “good job” by a president warrants an extension of their tenure, we open the door to the dangerous possibility of indefinite rule, which undermines the very essence of democracy.

There is no question that ED worked so hard and managed to turn Zimbabwe’s fortunes. Within the first five years the President pulled the country out of the woods and placed it in an economically attractive platform.
The reasoning being sounded by the 2030 team raises a critical question: if we are willing to amend the constitution to keep a successful president in power, what happens when a president is failing? Should we then amend the constitution to remove them prematurely or prevent them from serving at all? Such a perspective risks turning the constitution into a tool of convenience, bent and reshaped at will to suit current circumstances rather than standing as a solid foundation for governance. This not only erodes public trust in the legal framework but also destabilises the political system by making it subject to the whims of those in power and those who are seeking to be noticed by the president.

There is a difference between Vision 2030, which is the aspiration for Zimbabwe to become an upper middle income country by 2030. This is not a personal project of any single individual, it leaves no one behind. It is a collective goal, a national vision that transcends individual leadership. As such, the success of Vision 2030 should not hinge on the breaching of the constitution but rather on the commitment of the nation’s leadership whoever they may be to uphold and pursue this shared goal. Any competent and dedicated leader who assumes office after 2028 should be fully capable of carrying forward the mandate of Vision 2030. To suggest otherwise undermines the collective spirit and ambition that the vision represents.

The campaign to amend the constitution in this manner is not just misguided, it is ridiculous and fundamentally undemocratic. It is made worse by some sloganeering elements who change the slogan to “ Pasi nevasingade 2030.”Constitutions are designed to endure, to outlast the leaders who govern under them, and to protect the nation from the dangers of power consolidation. It is both unreasonable and undemocratic to tamper with the constitution for the sake of an extended rule. This spirited effort contradicts the very purpose of term limits, which is to prevent the emergence of autocracy, ensure regular leadership renewal, and promote the healthy functioning of democracy.
The idea of amending the constitution to allow the President to serve beyond the two-term limit, no matter how “good” his performance is,is an affront to democratic principles.

The constitution is a safeguard for all Zimbabweans, not a tool for personal gain. Vision 2030 belongs to the people, not to any one individual, and it is the collective responsibility of the nation’s leaders to ensure its realization. Therefore, any attempt to amend the constitution in this way should be resisted as a grave misstep and an act of folly that threatens the very fabric of Zimbabwe’s democracy. It is advocated by the people who have failed to win any election and are serving at the discretion of the President. They are actually labouring under the belief that their push for 2030 will increase their chances of being rewarded by the president.
The problem is that when external involvements begin to compromise our internal responsibilities, our country begin to suffer. We will have to continue wallowing under sanctions.

While in theory a president’s power should end when they end their term in office, they can often wield considerable influence after they leave the State House.

In other countries former presidents can influence public opinion,
The idea that a head-of-state’s term would expire before he did was a profound departure from the political norm. However, beginning with President ED , the handover of presidential power will be a cornerstone of Zimbabwean democracy.
But the transfer of formal presidential powers does not mean that ex-presidents are powerless. Outside their constitutional authorities, presidents enjoy a bevy of informal powers that they continue to wield long after leaving the State House. The presidents will draw power not only from their constitutional role, but also their unique ability to cultivate a direct relationship with the general public.

Zimbabwe’s name is being pulled down into the graves of history by a few who seek further advantages.

Patriotism is not proved by advocating for the breach of the constitution. The president needs a constructive advice and not a criminal advice.
The legacy of the president is at risk of being soiled.

Ailing Mohadi Skips Ghana Trip

By Political Reporter- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has tasked Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri with representing Zimbabwe at the inauguration of Ghana’s 14th President, John Mahama.

Muchinguri steps in for Acting President Kembo Mohadi, who assumed the role last Tuesday when Mnangagwa began his annual leave.

However, sources say Mohadi has been struggling to perform the duties due to deteriorating health.

Mohadi’s co-deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, is also on annual leave and is expected to return at the end of the month to relieve Mohadi for 10 days before Mnangagwa resumes office.

Government insiders revealed Mnangagwa’s decision to send Muchinguri instead of Mohadi was due to concerns about Mohadi’s ability to handle the rigorous demands of the trip, fearing he might collapse while abroad.

The 75-year-old leader, who has faced persistent health issues for years.

He once collapsed while delivering a lecture at the University of Zimbabwe, an incident that alarmed the nation.

Eyewitnesses reported that he appeared disoriented and asked for water before losing consciousness.

In another unsettling moment, state security agents ordered journalists to delete footage of Mohadi collapsing during a campaign rally in Gutu, Masvingo, in October 2023.

His health woes have also led to him missing key government events, including a high-profile occasion officiated by Mnangagwa in Chikomba, where 17 schools were commissioned.

Besides health struggles, Mohadi has been embroiled in scandals tarnishing his reputation.

His infamous resignation in 2021 following leaked audio tapes of alleged sexual misconduct left a lasting stain on his political career.

The tapes reportedly captured compromising conversations between Mohadi and multiple women, including married subordinates.

Despite denying the allegations, the scandal forced his temporary exit from public office.

Efforts to obtain an official comment from Mohadi’s office were unsuccessful at the time of publication.

Venâncio Mondlane Last Message Before Flying Back to Mozambique

Spearhead.

I gave this whole introduction because I haven’t been able to sleep for the past three days. Every day, I receive information. Brothers, our kidnapped, abducted, shot, killed, injured — all this is being done under the guise of supporting Venâncio Mondlane. If that’s the case, I want to tell you something right now. Please pay close attention to what I’m about to say. Pay close attention to what I’m about to say. Spearhead. For those who like football, when I played football, I was always known as a forward. That player, positioned in the area where the ball is played, is in a privileged position and has the ability to score the goal, to achieve the primary and fundamental objective. That was my position when I played football.

In the art of war, the spear is a weapon for long-distance throwing but can also be used in hand-to-hand combat. The spearhead is the sharp, piercing part of the weapon, the part that hits and achieves the objective. Thus, the spearhead, even in warfare, represents what achieves the goal. VM7, as I’m called, is exactly that—a spearhead.

So, my brothers are being killed, abducted, blood is being spilled, widows are being made, and children are being orphaned because of Venâncio. Now I want to explain what a spearhead is. On Thursday, January 9, at 8:05 a.m. sharp, I, Venâncio Moligano, will be at Mavalane International Airport. I’m coming to Mozambique. What I had to do outside Mozambique—the role I had to play so that demonstrations and protests could be organized and move forward—has been done. I wasn’t outside Mozambique out of fear.

They are killing our brothers, destroying their stores, burning gas stations, warehouses, and factories—claiming that it’s protesters doing this, when it’s not, all to create hatred among brothers. If this is all because of me, because of Venâncio, then Venâncio will be at Mavalane International Airport on Thursday at 8:05 a.m. That is being a spearhead.

If a spear is a weapon, then I, Venâncio, will descend like one into Mavalane International Airport. I’d like to invite my brothers to welcome me at Mavalane. I’d like to invite the Mozambican people to come and meet me there. Come wearing black shirts, white shirts, or any inscription you prefer. But I think it’s important to honor the 300—better yet, the 400—freedom heroes who were killed, assassinated, and thrown into mass graves. Let’s honor them on this Spearhead Day, Thursday, January 9, with Venâncio Moligano in Maputo, in Mozambique. I’ll be there.

I believe this news will address those who said I was in hiding, that I was afraid. It’s not true. I have legal cases against me. The President of the Republic never wanted to resolve this issue so we could have dialogue. I have no problem with the cases. I leave them behind. I have arrest warrants. I leave them behind too. If they are killing my brothers, assassinating my brothers, then I will be there in person. You can do whatever you want. If you want to assassinate me, do it. If you want to arrest me, go ahead. I’ll be there. I no longer need to hire companies that search the world for me, mercenaries who roam everywhere. I don’t need that anymore. I will be in Maputo on January 9 at 8:05 a.m.

I will be in Maputo. I’d even like to invite the President of the Republic to be there. The Attorney General, be there. The President of the Constitutional Council, be there. The President of the Supreme Court, be there. And other organizations as well—be there. I’ll be in Maputo. You don’t need to chase me anymore. I’ll be in Maputo. The truth is one: as I’ve always said, my body is at your disposal. Will you kill me? Go ahead. The only thing I know is that my fight will never die.

Moreover, I know that my fall will trigger a popular fury in Mozambique, one that will have no comparison in history—not just in Mozambique, but in Africa. You’ll witness something never seen before—the fury of a people moving with intensity and force like never before.

Dear friends, this is the message I wanted to share today for Mozambique, for Africa, and for the world. See you Thursday, January 9, at 8:05 a.m. at Mavalane International Airport. A big hug, a kiss, and goodbye!

Veteran Sports Commentator In Nasty Row With Wife

By A Correspondent

A dramatic and shocking revelation has emerged from popular SuperSport commentator Baba Mthethwa, who alleges that his ex-wife, Kgomotso Koosimile, has hired hitmen to take his life. This startling accusation comes amidst a long-standing feud between the two, with Koosimile claiming that Mthethwa owes her a staggering R1-million.

Mthethwa, known for his iconic catchphrase “Ho thaaaaaata-bannaaaa!”, revealed that he has received threatening calls from individuals who claim to have been sent by Koosimile. One chilling call allegedly came while Mthethwa was working at Orlando Stadium, with the caller threatening to harm him after the game.

Koosimile has vehemently denied the allegations, instead accusing Mthethwa of failing to settle the R1-million debt he supposedly owes her. According to Koosimile, she used her own funds to pay off Mthethwa’s debts and also loaned him money during their marriage.

The bitter dispute between the two began during their divorce proceedings in 2017. Koosimile claims that Mthethwa had nothing when they met, and she supported him financially, even providing him with a place to stay. However, Mthethwa allegedly became abusive and controlling, forcing Koosimile to live in fear.

As the situation continues to escalate, Mthethwa has vowed to take action against Koosimile, stating that he is “ready for war” and will not back down. The shocking allegations have sent shockwaves through the sports community, with many calling for calm and urging the two parties to resolve their differences amicably.

Bakery Manager Jailed for Theft, Gambling

By A Correspondent

A 28-year-old shift manager at Baker’s Inn, William Gonese, has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for stealing US$3,420 from his workplace to fund online betting. Gonese, who was convicted after pleading guilty to theft, will serve an effective 10-month prison term.

According to court records, Gonese stole the money during a single night shift, hoping to win enough through online betting on a platform called Aviator to repay the money and impress his new wife. However, his plan backfired, and he lost the entire amount.

Gonese was entrusted with a float of US$3,420 to serve customers at a Baker’s Inn outlet on Chinhoyi Street in Harare. However, by the next day, he called the Simbisa Bakers Inn Audit Manager, Yusuf Bruce, and confessed to losing US$470 in cash and US$2,950 in InnBucks deposits through online betting.

A reconciliation at the shop confirmed that the full amount of US$3,420 had been misappropriated. Gonese was initially sentenced to 30 months imprisonment, but 12 months were suspended on condition of good behavior, and another 10 months were suspended on condition that he repay the stolen money to his employer.

Police Accuse Schools Of Copying Wicknell Chivayo Money Stashing

By Dorrothy Moyo | Harare — The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has accused schools of mishandling cash in the style of the infamous conduct of businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who has come to symbolize the misuse of large sums of unaccounted money.

Chivayo, whose name has become synonymous with failed accountability after receiving $5 million for the country’s non-existent Gwanda Solar Plant, has not delivered a single solar panel in nearly a decade. Instead of cautioning Chivayo for wasting millions on luxury cars while schools remain in darkness, the police have turned their attention to schools, accusing them of “piling stashes of cash” on their premises.

Police Accusations Against Schools

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi has issued a strong warning to schools to stop holding large amounts of money on-site. Speaking as schools prepare to reopen next week, Nyathi urged authorities to deposit funds into banks and enhance security measures to avoid armed robberies, which have become increasingly common.

“School authorities should employ guards from reputable security service providers and install CCTV at entry points and administration offices. Above all, they must stop keeping cash on-site,” Nyathi said.

The remarks, however, have ignited a firestorm of criticism, with many accusing the police of unfairly targeting schools while allowing Chivayo’s financial mismanagement to go unchecked.

“Schools Are Being Made Scapegoats”

Critics argue that the police’s focus on schools is misplaced and hypocritical. Schools have been left to manage their finances in difficult circumstances, often without reliable electricity—an issue directly tied to Chivayo’s failure to deliver solar power infrastructure.

“How can the police accuse schools of mishandling cash when the biggest offender, Wicknell Chivayo, is walking free after wasting millions that could have revolutionized energy access for these very institutions?” asked the frustrated education advocate, Wesley Banda.

Chivayo famously spent part of the $5 million payment meant for the Gwanda Solar Plant on a fleet of luxury cars and personal expenses. Activists have called for him to sell these assets to fund solar panels for schools, but no action has been taken against him.

Rising Robberies Amid Systemic Failures

The ZRP’s warning comes amid an increase in armed robberies targeting schools, especially during fee collection periods. Criminals have used guns, machetes, and iron bars to steal cash and valuables from institutions that store money on-site due to limited banking access or infrastructure.

Notable incidents include:
• Bulawayo: $17,280 stolen from a cash box.
• Masvingo: $22,800 stolen by a lone armed robber posing as a parent.
• Ruwa and Gweru: More than $17,500 stolen from two private schools by armed gangs.

While the police have urged schools to adopt electronic payment systems, critics point out that such measures do not address the deeper issue of resource scarcity and unreliable electricity—a gap Chivayo’s solar plant was supposed to fill.

Parallels Between Schools and Chivayo

The comparison between schools and Wicknell Chivayo has sparked outrage. Public commentators have noted that schools, unlike Chivayo, are victims of a broken system, forced to store cash due to a lack of viable alternatives. Chivayo, on the other hand, has become a symbol of squandered opportunity and unaccountable wealth.

“Instead of accusing schools of copying Chivayo’s behavior, the police should be holding him accountable for failing to deliver the solar power that could have prevented these robberies in the first place,” said a parent from Harare.

Public Calls for Accountability

The police’s accusations have drawn criticism from educators, parents, and civil society groups, who are demanding that law enforcement shift its focus back to Chivayo. Many are calling for investigations into how Chivayo was able to misappropriate public funds without facing significant consequences, leaving schools and other public institutions to deal with the fallout.

“For nearly a decade, Chivayo has failed to deliver what he was paid for. If the police want to caution anyone about money management, they should start with him, not schools trying to survive in the system he helped cripple,” said a teacher from Gwanda.

Conclusion

As schools prepare to reopen amid rising crime and mounting financial pressures, the police’s accusations have only added to the frustration of communities struggling to ensure safety and continuity in education. The enduring presence of Chivayo’s unaccountable wealth serves as a stark reminder of systemic failures that leave schools and citizens vulnerable.

For now, the question remains: will the police redirect their focus to the root causes of these issues, or will schools continue to bear the brunt of the blame?

Lake Kariba Water Levels Rise Amid Ongoing Power Challenges

By A Correspondent

The water levels at Lake Kariba have been steadily rising following consistent rainfall in both the reservoir and its immediate catchment area, reaching 475.87 meters (2.61% usable storage) by January 6, 2025. This marks an improvement compared to the 477.28 meters (12.32% usable storage) recorded on the same date last year.

Zambia and Zimbabwe, both reliant on Kariba Dam for power generation, have faced significant power shortages due to historically low water levels, leading to increased load shedding in recent months. The situation has been exacerbated by the below-normal rainfall during the 2023/24 season, causing a continued decline in water levels.

According to the Zambezi River Authority, the usable live storage for power generation as of June 5, 2024, was 477.34 meters, compared to 479.67 meters during the same period in 2023. The Kariba Dam was designed to operate within water levels of 475.50 meters and 488.50 meters to generate hydropower for both Zimbabwe and Zambia.

As the region continues to navigate these challenges, the rising water levels bring some hope, but the struggle to meet power demand remains ongoing.

Reflecting on the discovery, she told journalists:

“I didn’t know that I had asthma until I had shortness of breath. I was so confused. I’ve never heard of anyone being diagnosed with asthma at this age. But the doctors said it’s still in the early stages. They said I need to manage it well and just take care of myself.”

Despite this, and her previous diagnosis with diabetes, Khumalo had successfully managed her health challenges over the years.

In 2017, she faced another major hurdle, becoming temporarily wheelchair-bound after a back operation and the development of an abscess.

Yet, she remained resilient, expressing hope and determination to overcome the setback.

Khumalo’s illustrious career began at the age of 15 with her debut album Hey Laitie, Tshina Tshina, produced by Sello Chicco Twala.

This was followed by her 1980s album Dlamini.

She ventured into gospel music in the 1990s with the album Izono Zami, produced by Pastor Langa Dube.

A Soweto native, Khumalo gained early fame as a backing vocalist for the legendary Brenda Fassie—a role she cherished as a highlight of her career.

Over the years, she collaborated with numerous icons in the music industry, including Pure Magic, Sipho Mbele, Brothers of Peace (B.O.P.), Bongo Maffin, Zonke Dikana, and DJ Cleo, leaving an indelible mark on South Africa’s music scene.

Her extraordinary talent, resilience, and contributions to Afropop and gospel music have cemented her legacy as one of South Africa’s most cherished artists.

Bill Antonio Makes Successful Return from Injury

By A Correspondent

Former Dynamos FC winger Bill Antonio made a triumphant return to the pitch on Sunday, playing his first match in ten months after recovering from a long-term knee injury.

The 22-year-old Zimbabwean international ruptured his ACL during a Belgian Pro League game in March and underwent months of rehabilitation. Antonio marked his return with a 30-minute appearance in a behind-closed-doors practice match against Beveren, where he even scored an early effort, although it was ruled out for offside.

KV Mechelen ultimately won the practice match 4-0. Antonio’s successful return is a promising sign for his future in the sport.

Zanu PF Youth Leader Downplays Tragic Crane Crash at Trabablas Interchange

By A Correspondent

In a shocking and controversial attempt to downplay the tragic crane accident at Trabablas Interchange in Harare, Zanu PF youth league leader Taurai Kandishaya on Monday sought to justify the deadly incident, which left one person dead. The crane collapse, which occurred during a de-erection operation, has raised serious concerns about safety standards in the construction sector.

Kandishaya’s response was a mix of comparisons to international incidents and a call for better safety practices. “In America, an average of 44 people die per year from crane accidents,” he stated, attempting to provide context for the Harare tragedy. He went on to reference several past crane accidents to further substantiate his argument:

“In 1999, at the New Millennium Tower in Harare, 15 people died due to a crane accident.”

“In 2016, one person lost their life at Tokwe Mukosi in a crane incident.”

“On August 3, 2015, two cranes collapsed while restoring a bridge in Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands, resulting in fatalities.”

“In December 2023, an all-terrain crane overturned at a construction site in Blanchardstown, Dubai.”

“In May 2024, a crane crash was reported in Rostock, Germany.”

“There was also a crane collapse in Edinburgh, killing people,” Kandishaya added, before turning his attention to the recent accident in Harare. “At Trabablas Interchange in Harare, Zimbabwe, a crane accident claimed one life.”

While Kandishaya acknowledged the tragic loss of life, he suggested that such incidents are not isolated to Zimbabwe, emphasizing that crane accidents happen globally. He called for companies to take greater responsibility by enhancing safety measures in their operations.

“There is need for companies to increase safety precautions when cranes are employed,” Kandishaya said. “These precautions will reduce the high risk of crane accidents.”

His attempt to shift blame away from local safety practices has been met with criticism, as many argue that the real issue lies in improving safety standards in Zimbabwe to prevent future tragedies.

Zanu PF’s Killer Zivhu Unleashes Scathing Attack on CCC MPs: “Stop the Hypocrisy!”

By A Correspondent

In a fiery outburst that has set social media abuzz, Zanu PF official Killer Zivhu has sharply criticized opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), accusing them of hypocrisy and dishonesty.

The outspoken Zivhu, known for his bold and controversial statements, delivered the attack on Monday, calling out CCC MPs for their alleged double standards.

“CCC MPs, stop the hypocrisy! Visit the farm as planned,” Zivhu said in a direct and no-holds-barred rebuke. “You accepted $40k & cars from the same parliament, now don’t pretend to be saints in public. Ndikawana anonditengera castle lite, ndodzitaura mari dzamakapiwa pa Christmas, mazipenzi avanhu musatinyangadza pano.”

His fiery remarks stem from allegations that some opposition MPs have been accepting financial rewards and luxury items, only to portray themselves as champions of the people. Zivhu’s comments suggest that these MPs are engaging in a charade, attempting to appear virtuous in public while benefiting from the very system they criticize.

Zivhu further questioned their integrity, implying that their actions during the festive season raised doubts about their true motivations. “If I see someone buying me a castle lite, I will talk about the money you were given at Christmas,” he said, referencing a local beer brand and implying that the opposition MPs are indulging in lavish perks at the taxpayers’ expense.

The attack comes amid mounting tension between the ruling party and the opposition, with Zivhu particularly targeting the public image of the opposition. His comments also echo broader frustrations with what he views as the opportunistic nature of some opposition leaders.

The controversial remarks also tie into the wider political landscape in Zimbabwe. Opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa notably withdrew from the CCC formation at the start of 2023, citing deep concerns about the infiltration of Zanu PF operatives within the ranks of his party. This schism continues to highlight the challenges facing the opposition in Zimbabwe, as infighting and accusations of corruption and mismanagement take center stage.

With Zivhu’s statement stoking further flames of political discourse, it remains to be seen how the opposition will respond to the growing criticism, and whether they will address the issues raised by the Zanu PF official. In the meantime, Zivhu’s attack has certainly added fuel to the fire of Zimbabwe’s already tense political atmosphere.

Man Brutally Kills Wife For Taking Birth Control Pills

By A Correspondent

A horrific incident has shaken the community of Chipinge, Zimbabwe, after a 29-year-old man, Felix Maphosa, brutally murdered his 47-year-old wife in a fit of rage. The deadly dispute erupted on December 31, 2024, when Maphosa discovered that his wife had been taking birth control pills without his knowledge ¹.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the argument escalated, and Maphosa violently attacked his wife, striking her on the head three times with an iron bar. In a shocking display of brutality, he then hammered a nail into her chest. After committing the heinous crime, Maphosa calmly went to a beer hall, only to return the next morning to find his wife dead.

Maphosa has been charged with murder and was remanded in custody until January 17, 2025. He has been advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

This shocking incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and the devastating consequences of unchecked anger.

ZIG Failure Torments Retailers

By A Correspondent

Zimbabwean businesses are bracing for further exchange-rate volatility following the shock devaluation of the country’s gold-backed currency, ZiG, in September 2024. The devaluation has had a devastating impact on businesses, with OK Zimbabwe Ltd, the country’s largest retailer, saying it “necessitated a reevaluation” of working capital and risk-management strategies.

Concerned business leaders, interviewed by Bloomberg News, voiced their worries about the ZiG’s instability.

“The velocity, that is the speed of using ZiG will increase,” warned Shelton Sibanda, Chief Investment Officer at Imara Asset Management. “No one will want to keep any ZiG.”

Christopher Mugaga, CEO of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, shared similar concerns, stating, “To plan using the local currency is to plan to fail.”

In addition to currency woes, businesses face power shortages lasting up to 18 hours a day.

“The power issue will remain for the first half of the year as it’s linked closely to the hydropower situation in Kariba,” Mugaga explained.

The El Niño-induced drought has significantly reduced water levels at the dam, exacerbating the country’s energy crisis.

Maxen Karombo, CEO of OK Zimbabwe, expects the operating environment to remain challenging, saying, “The operating environment is expected to remain bearish driven by exchange-rate and inflation dynamics.”

As the ZiG continues to struggle, businesses are being forced to adapt to the volatile economic environment.

Mnangagwa, Twin Sons In Suspicious Appearance

By Munacho Gwamanda- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appeared in a rare image with his twin sons, drawing scrutiny as speculation mounts about his long-term plans to remain in power beyond his constitutionally mandated two terms.

Central to these plans, observers believe, is his strategic use of family, particularly his twin sons, Sean and Collins Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa and his Twin Sons

Of the two, Sean has attracted significant attention for his role as a Major in the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) ‘s special Presidential Guard unit.

His military rank, coupled with Mnangagwa’s well-documented reliance on the armed forces to maintain his power, has fueled rumours that Sean could be a key figure in the president’s succession plan.

Mnangagwa, who has relied heavily on the military since his rise to power through a 2017 coup that ousted the late Robert Mugabe, appears to be entrenching his dynasty by positioning his children in influential roles.

While Collins, the other twin, has remained mainly in the business sector, Sean’s presence in the military has sparked speculation about the president’s long game.

Analysts point to Mnangagwa’s close ties with the military as a cornerstone of his governance strategy.

From deploying the army to suppress dissent during post-election violence in 2018 to appointing military loyalists to key government and party positions, Mnangagwa has leveraged the armed forces to secure his rule.

In recent months, whispers about Mnangagwa’s ambition to extend his presidency beyond the two-term constitutional limit have grown louder.

Though his second term has just begun, Mnangagwa has shown little regard for constitutional constraints in the past, and his manoeuvring to consolidate power has become increasingly evident.

Some insiders speculate that he may already be laying the groundwork for Sean’s rise as a potential successor, with the military playing a pivotal role in ensuring a smooth transition.

Critics argue that the president’s reliance on military support erodes Zimbabwe’s democratic institutions and sets a dangerous precedent for governance.

“What we’re witnessing is the entrenchment of military rule by proxy,” said a political analyst who requested anonymity. “Mnangagwa is essentially grooming his son within the military, ensuring that the family’s influence continues even after he steps down—if he ever does.”

Sean’s position within the ZNA has also fueled debate about the militarization of politics in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, Collins has focused on the family’s business interests, aligning himself with various economic ventures that underscore the Mnangagwa family’s growing financial clout.

While his twin brother’s role may be more overtly political, Collins’ influence in business ensures that the Mnangagwa dynasty remains well-funded and strategically positioned.

Whether Sean’s military career is a stepping stone to the presidency or a strategic move to safeguard the family’s interests, one thing is clear: Mnangagwa is consolidating power for himself and laying the foundation for his family’s long-term dominance in Zimbabwean politics.

Tshabangu, Welsh In Tag-Of-War As Chamisa A Makes Silent Calculations

By Munacho Gwamanda- The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has plunged into a dramatic power struggle as interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu and faction leader Welshman Ncube publicly declare their relationship “irreconcilable.”

The feud highlights the intensifying rift within the opposition party, with both leaders blaming each other for the ongoing chaos.

Tshabangu’s controversial reshuffling of parliamentary committee chairpersons and his directive for CCC legislators to visit President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Precabe Farm in Kwekwe sparked sharp criticism.

The farm visit—a Zanu PF-branded programme—left many CCC activists fuming, refusing to participate in what they saw as dining with the enemy.

Ncube’s faction swiftly condemned Tshabangu’s decisions, declaring his appointments to the local government caucus “null and void” and threatening disciplinary action.

However, Tshabangu’s camp remains defiant.

His spokesperson, Nqobizitha Mlilo, dismissed the threats, stating, “There is a difference between a threat and a promise.”

He emphasised that any action taken by Ncube’s faction must align with the party’s constitution, hinting at Tshabangu’s readiness to respond decisively.

The CCC’s internal fractures have deepened since Nelson Chamisa’s resignation as party leader in January last year.

Chamisa’s withdrawal created a power vacuum that emboldened competing factions, with Tshabangu and Ncube emerging as chief antagonists.

Ncube-led CCC spokesperson Willias Madzimure underscored the breakdown in relations, citing Tshabangu’s continued unilateral decision-making and deviation from the party’s vision.

“It’s difficult to solve issues amicably when someone repeatedly errs,” said Madzimure.

He slammed the Precabe Farm visit, questioning its alignment with opposition ideals: “It’s purely a Zanu PF programme. Why rally opposition legislators to attend?”

Amid the turmoil, Chamisa has maintained a strategic silence, avoiding entanglement in the factional disputes.

His absence from the battlefield has fueled speculation that he is recalibrating his approach to reclaim authority within the CCC or exploring broader political strategies outside the party’s current mess.

Slot Machine Myths: What’s True and What’s Not?

Slot machines are among the most popular games in casinos, both online and offline. With their flashing lights, catchy sounds, and potential for big payouts, they attract millions of players worldwide. However, slot machines are also surrounded by a plethora of myths and misconceptions. These myths can influence how players approach the game and their expectations of winning.

In this blog, we’ll debunk some of the most common slot machine myths, separate fact from fiction, and provide you with a clearer understanding of how these games actually work.

Myth 1: Slot Machines Are Rigged to Never Pay Out

One of the most widespread myths about slot machines is that they are rigged to ensure players always lose. While it’s true that casinos design slot machines to be profitable over time, this doesn’t mean they are unfair or incapable of paying out.

The Truth:

Slot machines operate using Random Number Generators (RNGs), which ensure that every spin is independent and random. The RNG generates thousands of combinations per second, meaning no one can predict or influence the outcome of a spin. While the house does have an edge, players still have a fair chance of winning during any given session.

Myth 2: Machines That Haven’t Paid Out Recently Are Due for a Win

Many players believe that if a slot machine hasn’t produced a jackpot in a while, it’s “due” for a big payout. This myth, often referred to as the “gambler’s fallacy,” is based on the misconception that past outcomes influence future results.

The Truth:

Each spin on a slot machine is completely independent of the last, thanks to the RNG. A machine that hasn’t paid out for hours is no more likely to hit a jackpot than one that just paid out a big win. The concept of being “due” is simply a myth with no basis in how slot machines operate.

Myth 3: Casinos Place Loose Machines Near Entrances to Lure Players In

Some believe that casinos strategically place “loose” slot machines (machines with higher payout rates) near entrances or high-traffic areas to attract new players. The idea is that seeing someone win will encourage others to play.

The Truth:

While it’s possible that some casinos may have used this tactic in the past, modern slot machines are programmed with specific payout percentages, known as Return to Player (RTP), which are determined by the game manufacturer. Casinos cannot adjust these RTP settings without adhering to strict regulatory guidelines. Reading casino reviews can provide insights into how different casinos operate and manage their gaming floors. The placement of machines in the casino is more about optimizing floor space than influencing player behavior.

Myth 4: Playing With a Player Card Lowers Your Chances of Winning

Many players fear that using a casino loyalty or player card while playing slot machines will reduce their chances of winning. This myth stems from the belief that the casino monitors players and penalizes them for earning rewards.

The Truth:

Using a player card has no impact on the outcome of a spin. The RNG ensures that results are random and independent of external factors, including whether or not a card is inserted. Loyalty programs are designed to reward frequent players, not manipulate the game. If anything, using a player card enhances your overall experience by earning you points, perks, and promotions.

Myth 5: You Can Influence the Outcome by Timing Your Spins

Some players believe that pressing the spin button at the “right” time or stopping the reels manually can influence the outcome of the game. This myth suggests that a player’s timing can lead to better results.

The Truth:

The RNG determines the outcome of a spin the moment you press the button, not when the reels stop spinning. Timing or stopping the reels manually does not change the predetermined result. Slot machines are purely games of chance, and no amount of skill or timing can alter the outcome.

Myth 6: Online Slots Are Easier to Rig Than Land-Based Machines

With the rise of online casinos, some players are skeptical about the fairness of online slot machines. They believe that digital platforms make it easier for operators to manipulate outcomes.

The Truth:

Reputable online casinos are regulated by strict licensing authorities that require independent audits of their games. RNGs are used in online slots just as they are in land-based machines, ensuring fairness. Always play on licensed and trusted platforms to guarantee a safe and legitimate gaming experience.

Myth 7: Betting Max Increases Your Chances of Winning

Many players assume that betting the maximum amount on a slot machine increases their odds of hitting a jackpot or achieving a higher payout.

The Truth:

While some slot machines require maximum bets to qualify for progressive jackpots, betting max does not increase the likelihood of winning on a standard spin. The odds of hitting a winning combination remain the same, regardless of the bet size. However, betting max can increase your potential payout if you do win.

Myth 8: Casinos Tighten Machines During Peak Hours

A common misconception is that casinos adjust the payout rates of slot machines during busy times to maximize profits, making it harder for players to win.

The Truth:

Slot machine payout rates are programmed and cannot be changed on a whim. Changing these settings requires regulatory approval and physical access to the machine’s internal software, which is not feasible during regular casino operations. This myth is simply not true.

Tips for Enjoying Slot Machines

  1. Set a Budget: Determine how much you’re willing to spend and stick to it.
  2. Understand RTP: Choose machines with higher RTP percentages for better long-term payouts.
  3. Play for Fun: Treat slot machines as entertainment, not a way to make money.
  4. Take Breaks: Avoid playing for extended periods to keep the experience enjoyable.

Conclusion

Slot machines are games of chance that rely on sophisticated technology to ensure fairness and randomness. Understanding the truth behind common myths can help players make informed decisions and enjoy their experience without falling for misconceptions. While the allure of big wins is undeniable, it’s essential to approach slot machines with a clear mind and realistic expectations. Remember, the key to enjoying casino games is to play responsibly and have fun.

ED Sneaks Out Of Leave Again To Replace Chiwenga With Oppah Muchinguri for Ghana Trip

Oppah Muchinguri

By Foreign Correspondent | ZimEye | Accra, Ghana – In another sneak out of holiday, Emmerson Mnangagwa has once again violated his holiday to appoint Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri in the place of his deputy Constantino Chiwenga. Muchinguri, has has been flown to Ghana as an Acting President of Zimbabwe at the inauguration ceremony of Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama.

The high-profile event, scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the iconic Black Star Square, will see Muchinguri standing aside several heads of states on the continent.

Muchinguri’s presence has increased the noise of speculation rift between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy, Chiwenga. Recent political developments in Zimbabwe have fueled rumors of tension between the two leaders, and Chiwenga’s absence at such a significant event is likely to deepen suspicions of discord at the highest levels of government.

It also comes at a time when Chiwenga has been threatened with so called ‘crocodile milk’, in a prayer by a provincial party chairperson.

The decision to send Defence Minister Muchinguri instead of Vice President Chiwenga suggests her increasing prominence in regional diplomacy as an Acting head of state apparent even though the appointed person is Kembo Mohadi.

ZimEye can confirm Muchinguri is booked in at a cheap budget hotel together with her husband since last night awaiting today’s ceremony.

Ghana’s Preparations in Full Swing

As Ghana readies itself for the grand event, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Clerk of Parliament, announced that preparations for replicating parliamentary settings at Black Star Square are 80% complete. “We are ensuring a smooth process that mirrors the setup of Parliament while accommodating dignitaries and guests,” he stated.

With security and logistics meticulously organized, including road closures and designated parking areas, the Ghanaian government is set to deliver a flawless event. Guests have been advised to arrive early, with proceedings beginning at 11:00 hours.

Symbolism and Expectations

The inauguration ceremony will not only mark the start of President-elect Mahama’s term but also serve as a platform for fostering intercontinental partnerships. Muchinguri’s attendance may further solidify Zimbabwe’s role in regional diplomacy, even as speculation swirls about its internal political dynamics.

As the world watches, the event promises to be a blend of cultural celebration, political reaffirmation, and diplomatic engagement, symbolizing the unity and resilience of African nations.

Teachers Threaten Street Protests Over Mnangagwa’s Retirement Age Scheme

By A Correspondent| Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) president Obert Masaraure has threatened to mobilise teachers to march against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s move to extend retirement age of civil servants to 70.

Speaking to a local daily, Masaraure in the absence of co-ordinated resistance, Mnangagwa’s regime had become notorious for unilaterally making anti-poor policy decisions.

“Citizens are still to come to terms with Mthuli’s anti-poor budget which pledges to squeeze the last dollar from the poor and deliver hot air in return.

“On age limit Artuz calls for a national protest on January 14, 2025, rejecting the nonsense. The government looted pension funds and now they want to force us to work to the grave. We won’t accept that,” Masaraure said.

He said it was unreasonable to raise the pensionable age-limit, while salaries remained stagnant.

“Underpaid civil servants got more promises of salary increments than the increment itself. At the close of the year salaries still remain at a paltry US$300.

“The underpaid civil servants are now heavily in debt and over 90% hardly take home US$200. Shockingly, as poverty levels shoot through the ceiling, the ruling elite and the politically exposed seem to be accumulating more wealth. Citizens should be forgiven for wishing colonialism back.

“Unfortunately the nightmare of Mnangagwa’s leadership appears to be set to last longer than the Constitution anticipated and, of course, what citizens had budgeted for.”

Masaraure expressed fear that the agenda to extend Mnangagwa’s term in office could be forced on the citizens, but called for total rejection of the unconstitutional raising of the pensionable age limit.

ZANU PF Leader Threatens to ‘Sprinkle Crocodile Milk’ on Vice President Chiwenga

The croc milk talk – cartoon

By Farai D Hove | In a startling development during a ZANU PF National Executive meeting, Shepherd Marime, the ZANU PF chairperson for Mashonaland West (Hurungwe), issued a bizarre threat involving the use of crocodile milk against Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his supporters. The remarks were part of a controversial prayer transcribed by ZimEye.

the prayer being made by Shepherd Marime

Marime declared his unwavering support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa, expressing his belief that the leader would remain in power until 2030 and beyond. However, he also took aim at those within the ruling party harboring ambitions to take over leadership, suggesting divine intervention to thwart their plans.

“I pray for the leader of the country. I know that in 2030 he will still be there; he will be ruling. Those who have ambitions, we pray for them that they have their chance after 2030,” Marime said.

In an unusual twist, he invoked the imagery of crocodile milk—a substance both metaphorical and mythical—to counter what he described as “evil spirits,” presumably referring to factions within the party aligned with Chiwenga.

“Those who send evil spirits, and spirits of hindrance, and dirty spirits, we sprinkle them with crocodile milk. We know that milking a crocodile is not easy, but we pray that on this chance, we shall sprinkle them with crocodile milk until the evil spirits have been cast out,” Marime proclaimed, ending his statement with a resounding “amen.”

The speech has sparked widespread debate and ridicule online, with many questioning the origins and feasibility of “crocodile milk” while others see it as an extension of the growing tensions within ZANU PF.

Internal Power Struggles Intensify

The remarks come amid increasing speculation about factionalism in the ruling party, with reports of a power struggle between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga’s camps. While Marime did not mention the Vice President by name, his comments appear to target Chiwenga’s allies, suggesting an intensifying rivalry as the 2028 elections approach.

Political analysts have interpreted Marime’s prayer as a veiled threat and a reflection of the deepening divisions within ZANU PF. “The reference to crocodile milk, though symbolic, underscores the lengths to which loyalists are willing to go to defend Mnangagwa’s grip on power,” said one analyst.

Public Reaction

The bizarre nature of Marime’s statements has drawn sharp criticism and mockery from opposition members and civil society. Many have taken to social media to express disbelief and humor at the suggestion of crocodile milk as a political weapon.

“This is where we are as a country—leaders talking about milking crocodiles instead of addressing real issues,” said critic, Johanne Sibanda.

As tensions within ZANU PF continue to simmer, all eyes remain on how the party leadership will respond to this public display of loyalty—and the underlying message it carries.

Fatal Accident at Mnangagwa’s Roundabout Site

the accident scene at Trabablas Interchange

By Farai D Hove | Harare – A tragic crane accident has claimed the life of a worker at the construction site of the Trabablas Interchange, a roundabout named after President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s nickname, “Trabablas.” The incident occurred on January 6, 2025, during the dismantling of a static tower crane, which collapsed alongside a mobile crane being used for operations.

This high-profile project, celebrated as a key legacy of Mnangagwa’s administration, has now been marred by the fatal accident, raising questions about the safety measures and oversight at the construction site.

Details of the Incident

The mishap occurred when a mechanical failure caused both cranes to collapse during routine decommissioning. The deceased, an employee of the subcontracted rigging firm Manzlink Pvt Ltd, was performing duties at the time of the accident. Tefoma Construction, the main contractor, has since issued a statement expressing condolences and pledging cooperation with authorities investigating the incident.

“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the deceased’s family and colleagues,” Tefoma said. “We are committed to working with the authorities to identify the cause of this mechanical failure and ensure safety standards are upheld moving forward.”

Safety Concerns at a Presidential Project

The Trabablas Interchange, touted as a major infrastructural achievement by the Mnangagwa administration, has now come under scrutiny for its safety protocols. While engineers insist that the bridge structure remains largely unaffected and the project timeline will continue, the fatality has cast a shadow over its progress and reputation.

Critics have previously questioned the project’s management, arguing that its naming after Mnangagwa reflects the president’s desire to secure a legacy while diverting attention from Zimbabwe’s broader infrastructural and economic challenges. The latest incident adds fuel to these concerns, with opposition leaders pointing to lapses in safety as evidence of inadequate governance.

“This tragic accident should serve as a wake-up call to prioritize worker safety over political vanity projects,” said one opposition spokesperson.

Eyewitness Accounts

Eyewitnesses reported a harrowing scene as the cranes collapsed. “It was terrifying,” said one worker at the site. “We’ve always trusted the safety standards here, but something clearly went wrong this time. It’s heartbreaking.”

Videos and images from the scene show the collapsed cranes lying across the construction site, with rescue and investigation teams working to assess the damage and prevent further incidents.

Impact on Mnangagwa’s Legacy

Named in honor of Mnangagwa’s nickname, “Trabablas,” the interchange was envisioned as a symbol of progress under his leadership, promising to revolutionize traffic flow in Harare. However, the accident threatens to overshadow the project’s achievements, adding to a growing list of controversies surrounding Mnangagwa’s administration.

The opposition has seized on the incident to critique the project’s priorities. “While the president names infrastructure after himself, Zimbabweans are paying the price in blood. This is yet another example of misplaced priorities,” said a prominent activist.

Investigations Underway

A full investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the mechanical failure. Tefoma Construction and Manzlink Pvt Ltd have pledged full cooperation with authorities. The company has also reaffirmed its commitment to adhering to the highest safety standards at all its project sites.

As the public demands answers and accountability, the tragedy at Mnangagwa’s “Trabablas” Roundabout has shifted focus from its ambitious goals to its human and operational costs. More updates are expected as investigations progress.

Some Ministers started writing letters requesting Willowvale Motors to give special preference to some individual buyers or companies who were after new vehicles, mainly Mazda and Toyotas, topping the Toyota list being the Cressida.

A total 120 cars were sold to individuals this way and 103 of them were resold to desperate companies like Triangle Sugar Estates at 4 times the market price. This summarizes the infamous 1988/89 Willowgate Scandal.

This was after President Robert Mugabe set an Independent Commission of Inquiry led by Justice Wilson Sandura to investigate the scandal.

This by far was the greatest corruption scandal of the first decade of independent Zimbabwe.

The Commission concluded there were evident integrity and ethics failures, but did not find the writing of letters by the involved Ministers constituting criminal offending.

President Robert Mugabe visited the White House at the time of the scandal and on return said the Amerucans were asking him where the actual crime was in the whole scandal.

$10 million car money could buy 33,000 solar panels.

With an investment of $10 million, a solar power plant with a capacity ranging from approximately 3 to 10 megawatts (MW), depending on various factors such as location, technology, and specific project costs, could be established.

A 10MW solar plant could meet the energy needs of a manufacturing industry like Sable Chemicals in Kwekwe, significantly reducing reliance on expensive and often unreliable electricity imports or fossil fuels. Such a facility would enable consistent production, lower operational costs, and improve energy independence, which is critical for industries like fertilizer production.

The decision to spend $10.5 million on luxury vehicles must therefore be critically evaluated against its opportunity cost to the nation. That same investment could have funded renewable energy infrastructure to power local manufacturing, reducing the need to import 100 tonnes of fertilizer. This would not only save foreign currency but also enhance local production, generate employment, and boost downstream industries that depend on a reliable supply of fertilizers for agricultural productivity. The lost opportunity represents a setback to both national economic growth and industrial self-sufficiency.

Cost Estimates for Solar Power Plants:
• Per Megawatt Cost: The cost of installing a 1 MW solar power plant typically ranges from $1 million to $3 million.
• Total Capacity with $10 Million Investment:
• Lower Estimate: At $3 million per MW, a $10 million investment could fund approximately 3.33 MW of capacity.
• Upper Estimate: At $1 million per MW, the same investment could support up to 10 MW of capacity.

Potential Power Generation:
• Average Energy Generation: A well-installed 1 MW solar power plant can generate an average of 4,200 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per day, translating to about 126,000 kWh monthly and 1.5 million kWh annually, depending on weather conditions and location.
• Total Annual Generation for 10 MW Plant:

Comparison with Expenditures on Luxury Cars:

The $10 million spent on luxury cars could have been alternatively invested in a solar power plant with a capacity between 3.33 MW and 10 MW.

Environmental and Economic Benefits:
• Renewable Energy Contribution: Investing in solar power contributes to sustainable energy infrastructure, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
• Long-Term Savings: While the initial investment in solar power is substantial, it leads to long-term savings on energy costs and potential revenue from selling excess power back to the grid.

The $10 million expenditure on luxury vehicles represents a significant opportunity cost. Redirecting such funds towards renewable energy projects like solar power plants could have provided substantial power generation capacity, contributing to both economic and environmental benefits.

To calculate how many solar panels could be purchased with $10 million, we need to consider the cost per solar panel. The price of a solar panel varies based on size, type, and quality, but for a rough estimate:

The average cost of a single residential solar panel is approximately $200 to $300.

Commercial solar panels or larger panels may cost $400 to $600 each.

Let’s calculate the number of solar panels based on these price ranges.

Calculation:

1. Using the average cost of $300 per panel:

2. Using the higher cost of $600 per panel (commercial grade):

Result:

With $10 million, one could purchase between 16,667 and 33,333 solar panels, depending on the quality and size of the panels. ( contributors- Reason Wafawarova; Wilbert Mukori)

Mnangagwa Extends Own Cousin-Brother Phillip Valerio Sibanda’s Military Job Post

By Dorrothy Moyo | Harare – In a move that has sparked widespread criticism and reignited accusations of nepotism, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended the tenure of his cousin-brother, General Phillip Valerio Sibanda, as Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) for another year. The extension, announced in the Government Gazette dated January 3, 2025, ensures General Sibanda remains in his role until November 2025.

The decision, framed by Mnangagwa as essential for maintaining stability in the military, has fueled speculation about the president’s reliance on close family ties to consolidate power within Zimbabwe’s security and governance structures.

Extension Amid Leadership Shuffles

The announcement of General Sibanda’s extended term follows the retirement of Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga, aged 61, who was replaced by Stephen Mutamba, a 63-year-old with reported familial connections to First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa. These developments have raised questions about the consistency of retirement policies, with critics arguing that the rules are selectively applied to favor Mnangagwa’s relatives and allies.

General Sibanda, a close relative of the president, has long been a central figure in Zimbabwe’s military hierarchy. His leadership has been instrumental in maintaining cohesion within the ZDF during politically turbulent times. However, his familial ties to Mnangagwa have fueled concerns over nepotism, with opposition leaders accusing the president of prioritizing family loyalty over institutional integrity.

Consolidating Power Through Family Appointments

The extension of Sibanda’s term and the appointment of Stephen Mutamba as Police Commissioner General are seen as part of a broader strategy by Mnangagwa to tighten his grip on power. Mutamba, reportedly a senior relative of the First Lady, has faced accusations of being a politically convenient choice rather than the best candidate for the role.

Military Promotions Add to Speculation

The controversy over Sibanda’s extended tenure coincides with the promotion of 26 Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Lieutenant Colonels to the rank of Colonel. While these promotions were celebrated as a recognition of hard work and dedication, the timing has added to the perception of a carefully orchestrated power consolidation.

At the promotion ceremony held at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, ZNA Chief of Staff Quarter Master Staff, Major General Simo Maseko, emphasized the importance of professionalism and loyalty. However, critics argue that the culture of promotions and appointments is increasingly influenced by political considerations.

Political Implications and Public Reaction

The reliance on relatives and close allies in key positions raises concerns about the erosion of institutional independence. With General Sibanda as a trusted family member and Mutamba tied to the First Family, Mnangagwa has placed the country’s most critical security apparatus firmly under the control of his inner circle.

A Critical Moment for Zimbabwe

Mnangagwa’s latest moves come at a time of increasing public discontent over economic hardships and governance issues. As the 2028 elections approach, these leadership changes are likely to shape the political landscape, with questions about fairness and transparency at the forefront.

While supporters of Mnangagwa argue that these appointments ensure stability and continuity, detractors see them as yet another example of a president prioritizing personal interests over national progress. The extension of General Sibanda’s tenure, in particular, has become a lightning rod for criticism, symbolizing the perceived entrenchment of a political dynasty.

As Zimbabwe’s political and economic challenges intensify, the focus will remain on how these leadership changes impact the nation’s future. Whether they strengthen governance or deepen public mistrust remains to be seen.

Desecration Of Graves At Chitungwiza Cemetery Worrisome

By A Correspondent

The grave of the late Madzibaba Godfrey Nzira at Chitungwiza Cemetery has sparked controversy after it was revealed that a path leading to his burial site was constructed over other graves.

Nzira, a well-known spiritual leader, is buried at the cemetery, and his grave stands out prominently, drawing the attention of visitors. However, the path allegedly built by his church members and family has caused outrage, as it appears to have desecrated several graves in the process.

One local resident expressed their disapproval, stating, “That’s inhumane. We should respect the dead. Those with relatives buried here don’t even have a clue where their relative’s remains are buried now.” Another resident also condemned the actions, remarking, “This is not allowed. In our culture, desecrating a grave is taboo.”

Concerns have also been raised about the reasoning behind the relocation of other graves to make way for the path. “We don’t know what’s so special about this person to the extent of displacing other graves,” said another individual.

Criticism has also been directed at the local authorities for permitting the construction. “The town council is answerable. How can they allow something like this to happen? Relatives of the deceased must sue them,” one resident added.

In response to the outcry, Chitungwiza Municipality spokesperson Mr. Tafadzwa Kachiko confirmed that the local authority had launched an investigation into the matter. “Desecration of graves is in violation of council by-laws, and we are looking into the matter so that we ascertain what transpired so that those responsible for this are held accountable,” Kachiko stated.

Madzibaba Nzira, who passed away in 2011, had been released a few months earlier after serving a 20-year sentence for rape.

MSD Warns Of Impending Floods

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a warning of heavy rains, thunderstorms, and flash floods expected to hit most parts of Zimbabwe until Saturday, January 11, 2025. Heavy downpours exceeding 50 millimeters within 24 hours are expected across the country, with an abundance of moisture in the atmosphere causing rainfall since late December 2024.

According to the MSD, areas such as Matabeleland North, northern areas of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, northern parts of Manicaland, and all Mashonaland Provinces can expect scattered thundershowers from January 5-8, 2025. Additional moisture from the southeast coast of Southern Africa is expected to bring cloudy, windy, and cold conditions over Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland Provinces by Wednesday evening.

The MSD warned that rain showers are expected to intensify in the southern parts of Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East, and Harare Metropolitan Provinces by Friday, January 10, with rainfall exceeding 50mm in 24 hours. The department cautioned that potential flooding can occur even in areas that might not have experienced heavy rains, and violent storms could lead to falling trees, blown-off rooftops, and collapsing billboards due to strong winds.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay informed about weather updates to ensure their safety.

Video of Wicknell Chivayo Boasts He’s Got Diplomatic Passport At Airports

VIDEO LOADING BELOW…

Report: The Implications of Wicknell Chivayo’s Airport Privileges

Wicknell Chivayo, the boasting ZANU PF money laundering convict, often showcases his lifestyle and privileges, particularly when it comes to his treatment at airports. He claims that his passport is cleared without him entering the airport, a police escort is always available outside his private jet, and he bypasses immigration entirely. These assertions paint a picture of extraordinary privilege and raise important questions about the implications of such actions.

Key Observations

Chivayo’s claim that his passport is cleared without entering the airport suggests he has access to privileges typically reserved for the most elite. This highlights the influence he holds and raises questions about how such special treatment is granted. It signals an erosion of equality, where some individuals can circumvent systems meant to serve everyone equally.

The presence of a police car waiting outside his private jet implies a high level of state-backed security. While such treatment is common for heads of state or diplomats, Chivayo’s status as a businessman raises concerns about the use of public resources for private individuals. This sparks debates about fairness and the priorities of law enforcement.

Skipping immigration entirely is a significant claim, as immigration checks are a cornerstone of national security and border control. For someone to avoid this process suggests a troubling disregard for standard protocols, which could compromise national security and highlight the selective application of the law.

What Do These Actions Represent?

Chivayo’s behavior serves as a bold display of power and privilege. By flaunting these benefits, he reinforces his public persona as an untouchable figure who operates beyond the rules that apply to ordinary citizens. These actions symbolize the growing divide between those with influence and the rest of society.

His claims also reflect the ways in which wealth and political connections can grant immunity from standard procedures. This undermines the ideals of fairness and equality, leaving ordinary citizens questioning the integrity of institutions.

In addition, his public demonstrations may also be intended to send a message to his allies and critics, emphasizing his access to state resources and his perceived dominance within Zimbabwe’s socio-political landscape.

Concerns and Consequences

Displays of privilege like this erode trust in institutions. Citizens may begin to feel that the systems in place are not designed to serve them, but rather to cater to the elite.

The bypassing of immigration procedures is particularly troubling, as it sets a precedent for others to demand similar treatment. This could weaken the country’s ability to enforce border security and uphold the rule of law.

The use of police escorts and other VVIP services for private convenience raises questions about the allocation of public resources. Such actions detract from the broader mandate of serving the public and addressing national needs.

Wicknell Chivayo’s public demonstrations of privilege highlight deeper systemic issues in Zimbabwe. They reflect a culture where influence and wealth can override laws and processes, creating a sense of inequality and impunity. Addressing these issues requires stronger accountability mechanisms, transparency in the granting of privileges, and a commitment to fairness in the treatment of all citizens. Without these measures, public trust in governance and institutions will continue to erode, deepening societal divisions.

Malunga Unleashes Scathing Attack on Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent

Legendary musician and former freedom fighter Clive Malunga has launched a blistering attack on President Emmerson Mnangagwa, labeling him “heartless” and accusing him of running the country like a “tuckshop.”

This is not Malunga’s first criticism of Mnangagwa, as he spoke out against him last year.

In a video circulating on social media, Malunga expressed his frustration with Zimbabwe’s current state of affairs, stating, “You see, fear factor is our major setback. Mr. Mnangagwa is taking us for granted. He is failing to feed the nation. This has gone too far. We have to challenge this.”

Malunga drew parallels between Mnangagwa’s leadership and that of former President Robert Mugabe, who was ousted in 2017. “Remember Robert Mugabe also exploited us, and now Mnangagwa is doing the same thing. Mr. Mnangagwa is heartless,” Malunga added.

Malunga’s criticism comes amid growing concerns about Zimbabwe’s economic and social challenges. His outspoken comments have sparked debate among Zimbabweans, with some praising his courage and others criticizing his approach. Malunga has been a vocal critic of Mnangagwa’s administration, earning him both support and backlash .

Mnangagwa Promotes 23 More Colonels After Elevating 33 Top Junta In 48 Hours

By Munacho Gwamanda– President Emmerson Mnangagwa has continued his rapid promotion of top military officers, reinforcing his grip on power while seemingly sidelining factions loyal to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

Mnangagwa has promoted 56 high-ranking officers in the past few days alone, signalling his strategic effort to build a loyal military hierarchy.

Just this week, 23 Zimbabwe National Army Lieutenant Colonels were elevated to the rank of Colonel, following 33 promotions within 48 hours last week.

New Colonels

The rapid succession of promotions includes the elevation of six colonels to Brigadier-General, alongside a significant reshuffle in the Air Force of Zimbabwe, where two Air Commodores, 11 Group Captains, and 16 Wing Commanders were advanced.

Mnangagwa’s actions, including these moves while on leave, underscore his determination to solidify control over the military, a key pillar of Zimbabwe’s power structure.

His promotion of military officers has been particularly concentrated at KG6, the heart of the country’s junta.

This flurry of promotions is part of a broader strategy to neutralize rivals, particularly Vice President Chiwenga, whose influence has steadily eroded.

Mnangagwa’s methodical sidelining of Chiwenga’s allies—many of whom have died under mysterious circumstances or have been politically isolated—has left the Vice President’s faction increasingly powerless.

With these calculated promotions, Mnangagwa appears to be setting the stage for a more secure rule, drawing parallels with the strategies used by former President Robert Mugabe.

While Mugabe’s reliance on military loyalty ultimately led to his downfall through a coup, Mnangagwa is following suit with a more meticulous, calculated approach to cement his dominance.

The President’s recent moves indicate a long-term strategy to retain power and potentially extend his rule beyond the previously suggested two-term limit, undermining any hope of a successor from within his party or the military.

Tefoma emphasized its commitment to supporting the deceased’s family and is working closely with Manzlink during this challenging time.

“We regret this tragic loss and are offering our full support to the family and Manzlink,” Tefoma added.

Trabablas Interchange has been under construction since 2021 and is expected to be complete before the end of this year.

Mnangagwa Tightens Grip, Extends Army Boss’ Contract, Fires Police & CIO Chiefs

By Munacho Gwamanda- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended the tenure of Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) Commander General Philip Valerio Sibanda by another year, shortly after firing the heads of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO).

This move underscores Mnangagwa’s growing reliance on military loyalty to consolidate his power.

Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana announced the extension on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“It is hereby notified that His Excellency the President has, in terms of proviso (i) to the Defence (Regular Force) (Officers) Regulations, 1988, extended the appointment of General Philip Valerio Sibanda as Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces with effect from the 24th December 2024 to the 23rd November 2025.”

This extension comes on the heels of Mnangagwa’s controversial decision in November 2023 to appoint General Sibanda as an ex-officio member of the Zanu PF Politburo.

The appointment, which bypassed constitutional norms, was swiftly reversed after legal experts threatened court action.

Mnangagwa’s reliance on the military to entrench his authority follows a long tradition in Zanu PF, where top army officials have historically been incorporated into party structures to safeguard its dominance.

This practice, dating back to the late General Solomon Mujuru’s tenure in the 1980s, has transformed the military into a political instrument used to intimidate opposition supporters and stifle dissent.

Despite constitutional limitations, Mnangagwa justified Sibanda’s Politburo appointment as a mere ex-officio role, asserting it was consistent with past practices.

Speaking at the Saudi Arabia-Africa Summit, in November 2023 Mnangagwa dismissed concerns, stating:
“People are mistaken. General Sibanda is not a civil servant; he is an ex-officio member of the Politburo, meaning he cannot vote but can contribute to discussions.”

In a further show of consolidation, Mnangagwa recently promoted six Zimbabwe National Army colonels to the rank of Brigadier-General, alongside 27 Air Force officers.

These included two Air Commodores, 11 Group Captains, and 16 Wing Commanders. Analysts interpret these promotions as an effort to build a loyal military hierarchy while neutralizing factions aligned with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

Chiwenga, who was instrumental in the 2017 coup that brought Mnangagwa to power, has seen his influence erode as Mnangagwa systematically dismantles his power base.

Key Chiwenga allies, including the late Major General Sibusiso Moyo and former Air Force Commander Perrence Shiri, have either died under suspicious circumstances or been sidelined.

Mnangagwa’s actions mirror those of his predecessor Robert Mugabe, who used military loyalty to maintain power but ultimately fell to a military coup.

The militarization of Zanu PF structures and the systematic sidelining of opposition within the ruling party have left little room for democratic processes.

Human rights groups have repeatedly accused Zanu PF of using the military to intimidate opposition supporters, particularly during election periods.

Mnangagwa’s strategy, analysts argue, seeks to cement his indefinite rule while reneging on an alleged power-sharing agreement with Chiwenga.

By extending Sibanda’s contract and reinforcing military loyalty, Mnangagwa signals his intent to tighten his grip on both party and state, leaving little space for internal or external opposition.

Mountains Of Garbage Terrorise Warren Park

Uncollected Garbage at Warren Park 1 Sparks Health Concerns

Residents of Warren Park 1 in Harare have raised serious concerns over the uncollected garbage piling up at the local shopping center. Photos shared on social media and taken on-site show heaps of refuse, including plastics, food waste, and other debris, strewn across the area. The alarming situation has prompted calls for urgent intervention to prevent a potential public health crisis.

The Network for Environmental and Climate Justice, along with concerned citizens, highlighted the issue on social media, tagging city authorities and environmental agencies. The uncollected waste has become a common sight, with locals expressing frustration over the lack of action from the responsible municipal departments. In one social media post, the organization described the scene as “a huge health hazard to residents” and urged city officials to address the issue promptly.

The images depict residents, including children, navigating through the trash-strewn environment. Vendors and waste collectors are seen sorting through the garbage in what appears to be an effort to salvage recyclables. Meanwhile, stagnant pools of water mixed with decomposing organic waste add to the unsanitary conditions, further exacerbating health risks such as the spread of diseases like cholera and typhoid.

One concerned resident commented, “This is so sad, and one wonders if the council even cares anymore.” This sentiment echoes the frustration of many who have seen little effort to resolve the mounting crisis.

The area around Warren Park 1 is home to numerous businesses and households, and the accumulation of waste not only creates an eyesore but also threatens livelihoods and the well-being of the community. Residents are urging the City of Harare, along with environmental management agencies, to prioritize waste collection and develop long-term solutions for sustainable waste management.

Failure to address this issue could lead to severe public health implications, particularly as the region grapples with existing economic challenges. Authorities are yet to respond to the growing outcry from residents and advocacy groups, leaving many anxious about the future of their community’s health and environment.

This situation serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for effective waste management systems and stronger accountability from municipal councils. As the garbage piles grow, so too does the call for immediate and decisive action.

Clive Malunga Strikes Again, Says Mnangagwa Is Heartless

By A Correspondent

Legendary musician and former freedom fighter Clive Malunga has launched a scathing attack on President Emmerson Mnangagwa, describing him as “heartless” and accusing him of running the country like a “tuckshop.” This is not the first time Malunga has criticized Mnangagwa, having spoken out against him at the end of last year.

In a video circulating on social media, Malunga expressed his frustration with the current state of affairs in Zimbabwe. “You see, fear factor is our major setback. Mr. Mnangagwa is taking us for granted. He is failing to feed the nation. This has gone too far. We have to challenge this,” he said.

Malunga’s criticism of Mnangagwa comes amid growing concerns about the country’s economic and social challenges.

The musician’s outspoken comments have sparked debate and discussion among Zimbabweans, with some praising his courage and others criticizing his approach.

Malunga has been an vocal critic of Mnangagwa’s administration, and his comments have been met with both support and backlash.

While some see him as a champion of free speech and accountability, others view his criticism as misguided and divisive .

Met Department Warns of Heavy Rains, Flash Floods

By A Correspondent

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a warning of heavy rains, thunderstorms, and flash floods expected to hit most parts of the country until Saturday, January 11, 2025.

“Heavy downpours exceeding 50 millimeters within 24 hours are expected across the country,” the MSD advisory stated. “An abundance of moisture in the atmosphere, brought by a cloud system, has been causing rainfall across the country since late December 2024 and continues into January 2025.”

According to the MSD, areas such as Matabeleland North, northern areas of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, northern parts of Manicaland, and all Mashonaland Provinces can expect scattered thundershowers from January 5-8, 2025.

The MSD also warned of additional moisture from the southeast coast of Southern Africa, which is expected to bring cloudy, windy, and cold conditions over Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland Provinces by Wednesday evening.

“By Friday, January 10, the rain showers are expected to intensify in the southern parts of Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East, and Harare Metropolitan Provinces, with rainfall exceeding 50mm in 24 hours,” the MSD advisory noted.

The department also cautioned that potential flooding can occur even in areas that might not have experienced heavy rains, as floods can result from upstream rainfall. Additionally, violent storms could lead to falling trees, blown-off rooftops, and collapsing billboards due to strong winds.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay informed about weather updates to ensure their safety.

Davhe Village Defies the Odds: 10 Tonnes of Maize Harvested in Drought-Prone Buhera

By A Correspondent| In the parched landscapes of Buhera, where droughts have historically left fields barren and communities struggling for survival, a remarkable story of hope and resilience is unfolding. Davhe Village Business Unit (VBU) has achieved a milestone by harvesting 10 tonnes of maize, defying the harsh realities of their drought-prone region.

This achievement is largely credited to the transformative Presidential Borehole Scheme (PBS), an initiative championed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Designed to combat food insecurity in Zimbabwe’s driest regions, the PBS provides reliable water sources through boreholes, enabling farmers to engage in year-round agriculture.

The borehole installed in Davhe has become more than just a water source; it has turned the village into a hub of agricultural productivity. By embracing innovative practices such as crop rotation, the VBU has cultivated not only maize but also tomatoes, cabbages, and other vegetables—a sight once unimaginable in the arid region.

This year’s maize harvest was a resounding success, with the entire 10 tonnes sold to Prevail Group International (PGI) for an impressive US$4,000. The partnership with PGI, a key stakeholder in the PBS, has provided market linkages, enabling farmers to secure sustainable livelihoods.

Transforming Lives in Buhera

The benefits of the scheme extend beyond the fields. For many farmers, the PBS represents a lifeline. Maria Nyamunda, a mother of three, shared how the initiative has changed her life:
“Before this noble VBU initiative, we depended on erratic rains, and our crops would often fail. Now, with the borehole and guidance from the VBU, I can farm all year round. I sold my share of the maize and will use the money to pay school fees and provide for my family.”

Tatenda Mhiripiri, another beneficiary, echoed similar sentiments:
“This program has empowered women like me to achieve financial independence. I no longer worry about food security and have even started a small poultry business with the income I earned.”

A National Model for Growth

The success of Davhe’s VBU serves as a blueprint for addressing food insecurity across Zimbabwe. According to Paul Tungwarara, Chairperson of PGI, the scheme is reshaping agriculture in drought-stricken areas:
“The PBS has revolutionized farming in Buhera, proving that even in challenging environments, communities can produce surplus yields and improve their livelihoods.”

Over 86 small-scale farmers have directly benefited from this year’s harvest in Davhe, a testament to the potential of the PBS to uplift entire communities.

As Zimbabwe grapples with the challenges of climate change and food insecurity, the Presidential Borehole Scheme offers a sustainable solution. It transforms adversity into opportunity, ensuring that arid regions like Buhera can become hubs of agricultural prosperity.

For Davhe and similar communities, the future holds promise—a testament to what can be achieved when innovation, resilience, and support come together to turn barren fields into flourishing harvests.

Motorist Kidnaps Municipal Police Officer

By A Correspondent

A shocking kidnapping incident occurred on New Year’s Eve in Harare, where a municipal traffic police officer was abducted by a motorist attempting to evade arrest. The officer, 23-year-old Felistas Mutongweza, was taken by an unidentified driver who was operating a private vehicle without a council license.

According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson for Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the incident unfolded at the corner of Rezende Street and Nelson Mandela Avenue around 10 AM. “On December 31, 2024, the complainant was on duty with her workmates. Before the complainant’s colleagues entered the car, the accused person drove away with the complainant and other passengers along Sam Nujoma Street towards Belgravia Shopping Centre,” Inspector Chakanza explained.

During the abduction, the motorist took Mutongweza’s cell phone to prevent her from communicating with her colleagues. However, the officer was eventually released at Belgravia Shops, where the motorist returned her phone and drove off. Mutongweza quickly contacted her workmates, who arrived to pick her up.

The incident highlights the risks faced by law enforcement officers in their daily duties.

An investigation into the incident is likely to follow, with the authorities working to identify and apprehend the motorist responsible.

Flood Alert As Met Dismisses Cyclone Fears

By Munacho Gwamanda — The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has dismissed fears of a devastating cyclone but warned of heavy downpours and potential flooding across Zimbabwe.

In a statement, the MSD forecasted rainfall exceeding 50 millimetres (mm) within 24 hours in several regions until the weekend. The advisory highlighted:

“An abundance of moisture in the atmosphere, brought by a cloud system, has been causing rainfall across the country since late December 2024 and continues into January 2025.”

Affected Areas and Forecast

  • 5–8 January 2025: Scattered thundershowers are expected in Matabeleland North, northern Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, northern Manicaland, and all Mashonaland provinces.
  • 10 January 2025: Rainfall exceeding 50mm in 24 hours is predicted for southern Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East, and Harare Metropolitan provinces.

The MSD noted that additional moisture from the southeast coast of Southern Africa would bring cloudy, windy, and cold conditions to Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland provinces starting Wednesday evening.

Flooding and Storm Risks

The department cautioned that flooding could occur even in areas with lighter rainfall due to upstream water flow. Violent storms may lead to falling trees, collapsing billboards, and blown-off rooftops caused by strong winds.

Public Safety Advisory

The MSD urged citizens to:

  • Secure rooftops and other property.
  • Avoid parking vehicles under trees.
  • Refrain from standing under trees or being the tallest object to reduce lightning risks.
  • Avoid using heavy outdoor machinery during storms.
