Constitutional Amendment Bill: Mwonzora Betrays Own Conscience

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance Youth Assembly Members has implored Zimbabweans to unite and fight for their Constitutional rights that are being impinged upon by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

Mr Mnangagwa and Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora have forged an unholy alliance calculated to tilt the political scale in the former’s favour.

From Co-chairing COPAC To Tearing Apart The Very Same Constitution: Mwonzora Takes People For Granted

21-04-2021

Yesterday, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa working in cahoots with his Trojan horse, Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora facilitated one of the worst political developments ever witnessed in this country.

The unthinkable happened as The House of Assembly passed Amendment No.2 Bill which all but surrender unfettered power to Mnangagwa to entrench his dictatorship.

Among other things, the draconian Bill would arm Mnangagwa to appoint judges without going through interviews, extend judges terms past 70 years age limit and more importantly removing the running mate clause.

It is very important to note that the current constitution was born out of an arduous and rigorous process that included serious consultations from citizens in town halls and under trees in rural areas.

That process was spearheaded by the Constitutional Parliamentary Committee (COPAC) which was ironically co-chaired by Mwonzora himself.

That Mwonzora is the same man who was at the forefront of the Constitutional Parliamentary Committee (COPAC) speaks volumes of his dishonest, insincere and chameleonic character.

Names do not lie!

Dambudzo and Togarasei need to be stopped fast in their tracks if democracy is to survive.

It is time to end their little game!

Full Text MDC Alliance Calls For Immediate Release Of Hon Mamombe

Hon Joana Mamombe falls gravely ill at Chikurubi Maximum Prison, Mdc Alliance Namibia demands justice to the Mdc-A-Trio.

22 April 2021

Mdc Alliance Namibia district urges genuine revolutionaries to constitutionally pent up their outrage demanding the immediate release of our ardent and determined youthful leader Hon Joana Mamombe who has gravely fallen ill at the hell-hole of Chikurubi Maximum Prison.

It is now our moral obligation as a way of solidarity to legally demand an abrupt end to the state-sponsored incarceration, torture and inhuman treatment of our leaders Joana , Cecilia and other political prisoners including Cde Makomborero Haruzivishe who was imprisoned for mere whistling in town.

As a district, we are really cobra-headed to see our youthful, innocent and organic women languishing in prison when real looters of our national cake are walking free with impunity. It is sad to receive the bad news that Hon Joana Mamombe is currently suffering from acute stomach pain and no urgency has been displayed by the satanic regime to rush her to the hospital.

We suspect foul play from State apparatus who always fight all progressives in the Motherland.

Mdc Alliance Namibia appeals to the Sadc, African Union and the United Nations to intervene so that they can help us to defend the dissenting voices. This gross abuse of human freedoms must be confronted with equal measure. Bail is a Constitutional Right but it’s perturbing to learn that the innocent Hon MP has been denied bail several times.

It is not easy for these young girls and boys to stay at Chikurubi Maximum Prison for 45 days and remember Hon Joana, Cecilia and Netsai Marova were once victims of sexual harassment at the hands of suspected state agents in 2020. It is unacceptable, inhuman and unjust to keep these innocent young women in jail for addressing a press conference demanding justice to Cde Makomborero Haruzivishe.

Our Honourable has gone through a lot and we demand that she must be released and given her health care in a private hospital for safety. We suspect foul play from Zanupf morons since it has become their modus operandi.

In a nutshell, 45 days of incarceration for just expressing one’s public opinion is not only stupid but too satanic to accept. It is now imperative for all of us to constitutionally protect one another from this sadist government. Let’s brace for dangerous freedom against peaceful slavery.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, we demand justice and equality before the law. We need to legally and constitutionally confront Zanupf thugocrats to attain our total emancipation. We wish you a very speedy recovery Hon Joana Mamombe so that we can achieve socio-economic transformation together as genuine freedom fighters.

Real Madrid Boss Rules Out Ronaldo Return

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has ruled out Cristiano Ronaldo’s return in the next transfer window.

The Portuguese striker left Los Blancos in 2018 to join Juventus but there have been reports suggesting the Spanish giants want to re-sign him at the end of this season.

Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane also hinted at the transfer when he admitted last month that a comeback is “possible” for Ronaldo.

But according to Parez, the club will not sign back the 36-year old.

“Cristiano’s return? No. He has a contract with Juventus. But it doesn’t make sense for him to come back. I love him a lot, he has given us a lot,” the president said on Tuesday.

Ronaldo enjoyed a hugely successful nine years at the Bernabeu before leaving in 2018 for €100 million.

Perez also talked about the future of Real captain, Sergio Ramos.

The centre-back is out of the contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree a new deal.

The Madrid boss admitted negotiations are proving difficult, saying: “I also love him very much, but we are in a very bad situation. We have to be realistic.

“I did not say that Ramos is not going to continue. We are thinking about finishing this season, then we will see what happens.

“A lot of things can happen. First we are going to finish this season. We are talking to many players and many are voluntarily lowering their salary.

“Some have already lowered it, specifically the two who have left, Luka Jovic and Martin Odegaard. Last year Ramos accepted. This year he is in a different situation.”- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Big George Chigova Makes SupersSport Debut

Zimbabwean goalkeeper George Chigova made his SuperSport United debut in their 0-1 loss to Golden Arrows at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium yesterday.

The big former Dynamos shot-stopper joined Matsatsantsa from relegated Polokwane City at the beginning of the current campaign but is an understudy to captain and Bafana Bafana international Ronwen Williams.

In Williams’ absence due to injury, Chigova was between the sticks for the Pretoria-based side, which stretched its winless run to seven games courtesy of the defeat.

Ndunduzo Sibiya’s solitary first half strike was the difference between the two sides.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Arubi Keen To Reclaim Warriors Number One Jersey

Veteran Zimbabwean goalkeeper Washington Arubi is still hopeful of bouncing back in the Warriors fold as he has ‘unfinished business’ with the national team.

The 35-year-old former Dynamos and Lancashire Steel goalkeeper has been impressive for DStv Premiership side Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM).

This publication has been following Arubi’s progress keenly this season, even before the heroic show he put on to single-handendly propel TTM to the Nedbank Cup final at the expense of in-form Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sekuru Gudo, as he is fondly-known locally, said he still aspire to keep goal for the national team, having last done so in an AFCON qualifier against Guinea at Rufaro Stadium in 2015.gue

“Playing for the national team is an honour for every player, so I am always available for my national team,” he was quoted as saying by NewsDay.

“It is good that people are beginning to recognise my efforts. I am going to keep working hard, waiting for my call-up. I still have unfinished business with the Warriors,” he added.

Arubi has been instrumental in TTM’s quest for survival this season, keeping a total of five clean sheets in the league.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Migraine headaches are also known to be associated with obesity and those with a family member who have a migraine headache. There is known cause but there are triggers that are known:

Chikurubi Maximum Prison Worse Than Hitler’s Concentration Camps

Tinashe Sambiri|Chikurubi Maximum Prison has become worse than Adolf Hitler’s Concentration Camps…

This was said by MDC Alliance Youth Assembly spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma on Thursday.

Chuma condemned the prolonged detention of Hon Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri.

He called for the immediate release of critically ill Mamombe. There are serious concerns about Hon Mamombe and Chimbiri’s safety.
Below is Chuma’s argument:

22-04-2021

The MDC Alliance Youth Assembly demands for the immediate release from prison of the critically ill Hon Joana Mamombe.

Mamombe together with our Vice Chairperson, Cecilia Chimbiri have been languishing at Chikurubi Maximum Prison for close to two months now.

We demand for their immediate release so that Mamombe can access better health care outside the empty state health facilities.

Chikurubi has become worse than Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Concentration Camps and is now a death trap due to its filthy and squalid conditions.

Nomatter the case, the place is just not suitable for human habitation.

We have a sad history with Chikurubi and our female comrades following the death of Rebecca Mafikeni in the same facility a decade ago.

Mafikeni just like what is happening to Hon Mamombe now was denied access to quality private health care until she lost her life in those empty government facilities.

There is no reasonable grounds whatsoever why Mamombe and Chimbiri must continually rot in jail when the very same High Court that denied them bail yesterday granted one to Emelda Mazarani who gruesomely murdered her four children in November last year.

We would like to warn the regime that the continued caging of Mamombe when she is unwell will definitely invite big trouble to their doorsteps.

Mamombe is a young female youth leader who possesses a huge following hence denying her access to health care when she is unwell is surely incitement to violence.

Her release is our priority and matter of urgency!

As an Assembly we are not going to tolerate this inhumane treatment of young females manifest before us.

Govt Admits Low Teacher Turnout In Schools

By A Correspondent- Government has admitted that teachers are not reporting for duty and the few that are going to work are not conducting lessons.

In a post-Cabinet Press statement yesterday, government insisted it would strictly reinforce its policy of docking salaries for truant teachers.

“Cabinet was informed that the number of teachers reporting for duty had decreased,” part of the minutes read.

“It is further noted that some of those reporting for duty are not teaching.

“Cabinet wishes to reiterate that negotiations for improved conditions of service remain open under the National Joint Negotiating Council and that the no-work, no-pay policy will be strictly enforced.”

Teachers have rejected a 70% staggered salary hike from their employer, declaring incapacitation, with teachers unions urging their members to report for duty only two days a week.

Despite the threats to withhold salaries, teachers have vowed to stay at home until government addresses their salary grievance.

The educators are demanding that government pays them pre-October 2018 salaries of between US$520 and US$550, or their equivalent in local currency.

Yesterday, government also announced that it would introduce strict surveillance in communities around schools where COVID-19 cases broke out last week.

“Cabinet notes that the strong COVID-19 surveillance system that government had put in place had enabled the ministry to detect outbreaks early,” the minutes read.

“Cabinet was informed that on April 16, 2021, more outbreaks were reported at two boarding schools, namely St Davids Bonda Girls School, in Manicaland and Embakwe High School in Plumtree.

“One hundred and forty-five 145 and 91 learners tested positive, respectively. Government would like to re-assure the nation that the situation is under control and all the cases are mild and asymptomatic.

“The Ministry of Health and Child Care is testing and vaccinating members in the adjoining communities where the schools are located.

“All those found positive have been quarantined. The ministries of Primary and Secondary Education; and Health and Child Care have intensified enforcement of the COVID-19 standard operating procedures in all schools and those found violating COVID-19 preventive measures will be sanctioned.”

There are fears that the country might be experiencing a third wave of COVID-19 following a recent surge in new infections in schools.-newsday

Band Member Dumps Jah Prayzah

Jah Prayzah’s keyboard player Biggie Katuka has left the Third Generation band to pursue a career in tourism.

Katuka told the Daily News yesterday that he needed time to nurse his fledging tourism start-up, christened I Travel.

The new company’s forte will be centred mainly on domestic tourism as Katuka aims to service a niche market that has been overlooked by the traditional giants in the sector that mainly focus on international arrivals.

“The company is still new hence I decided to leave the Third Generation to give it all my attention as it has a potential to scale dizzy heights,” Katuka said.

Next month, Katuka’s new company will be organising a two-day trip from Harare to Matabeleland North dubbed the “Binga Bush Party”.

“We are targeting a small number to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic as we are still under a national lockdown.

“On this one, we want only 20 tourists and I am happy with the response so far. People are actually excited,” Katuka added.

Despite the decline in the tourism sector in the past 14 months due to the global pandemic, local hotels and tourists’ attractions are slowly opening up.

Katuka believes he has ventured into the sector at the right time when the industry is now gearing for a reboot after weathering the Covid-19 pandemic.

“There is a lot of potential. The only setback we have so far is the Covid-19 pandemic and the travelling restrictions,” he said.

Katuka’s departure from Third Generation comes hot on the heels of that of dancer and backing vocalist Fatima “Stimela” Katiji, who recently left for the United States (US) to further her studies.

Katiji last month told the Daily News that she hopes to return to Zimbabwe once her exchange programme at the Fairfield University Connecticut comes to an end.

It is no surprise that most musicians and instrument players are searching for alternative sources of income after showbiz industry ground to a halt during this pandemic.

Since the government imposed a nationwide lockdown in March 2020, all live musical shows and public gatherings have been outlawed.

Authorities recently relaxed the lockdown regulations but shows remain banned, which has affected the livelihoods of band members who normally get paid per gig.

Even the band leaders have not been spared the financial challenges and are also seeking alternative avenues to make ends meet.

By A Correspondent| Opposition MDC-T activist Partson Murimoga has taken his fight against party leader Douglas Mwonzora to parliament after submitting a petition to the Speaker Advocate Jacob Mudenda calling for the expulsion of the Manicaland senator.

In his letter, Murimoga said Mwonzora should be expelled in the National Assembly for theft of party funds, money laundering and disregard of anti-corruption laws.

He said he is petitioning parliament to preserve the integrity of of the legislative body.

On my behalf and on behalf of the members of the Movement for Democratic Change T, hereby petition the Parliament of Zimbabwe through you Hon, Mr Speaker Sir to safeguard, promote and preserve the integrity of the country’s legislative body in keeping with its mandate “to make laws for peace, order and good governance of Zimbabwe” you have in the legislature one Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora who should not only be expelled from the August House but arrested for;

Minister Blames Sanctions For Poor State Of The Roads

By A Correspondent- State Minister for Presidential Affairs, Joram Gumbo, on Tuesday blamed sanctions for the poor state of the District Development Fund (DDF).

While presenting a ministerial statement on DDF in the National Assembly, Gumbo said the national rehabilitation department was relying on old equipment due to lack of funds to retool.

“I wish to advise the esteemed House, Mr Speaker Sir, that the sanctions imposed on the country since the land reform programme have affected the maintenance of the DDF plant and equipment which was either donated or bought mainly from the Western world,” he said.

“As a result, the DDF now relies on plant hire services from the private sector whose charges will always be prohibitive.”

Gumbo said the department was underfunded by Treasury, which resulted in its failure to perform its developmental mandate of maintaining infrastructure, ensuing water supplies, and providing tillage services to rural communities.

“Mr Speaker Sir, it should also be noted that the resources allocated to DDF for road construction and routine maintenance are disproportionate to the road network that falls under the jurisdiction of the institution.-newsday

“The DDF is in charge of 60% of the national rural feeder roads inclusive of the newly opened resettlement areas which came with the land reform,” he said.

But Mutasa Central legislator Trevor Saruwaka (MDC Alliance) said government was using sanctions as an excuse to cover up for its incompetence.

He said government had an option to buy new equipment from friendly nations, adding that blaming sanctions was an indirect admission that the country could not do without the Western countries.

ED Takes First Jab In Victoria Falls, Second In Kwekwe

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived at Kwekwe general hospital to receive the second jab of the Covid-19 vaccination.

The President’s second jab follows the initial inoculation he recieved last month in Victoria Falls.

Accompanying him is the Vice President who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Constantino Chiwenga, ZANU PF National Chairperson, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and several government officials.

The vaccination programme is part of government’s efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Zimbabwe is targeting to inoculate 60 percent of the population in order to achieve herd immunity.

Prison Officers, Inmates Succumb To Covid 19

By A Correspondent- Six prison officers and four inmates succumbed to COVID-19 during the festive season which was preceded by the outbreak of the second wave.

Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu said despite the surge in cases during the festive period, they didn’t record alarming cases.

In an interview with the Herald, Chihobvu said:

We have four inmates and six prison officers who succumbed to Covid-19 during the festive period across the country. The numbers are not alarming given our population and we are happy that the situation is under control.

Comm-Gen Chihobvu said ZPCS was strictly adhering to the Ministry of Health and Child Care as well as the World Health Organisation’s health regulations.

COVID-19 first breached prison walls in July 2020 when four inmates and one prison officer at Bulawayo Prison tested positive for the deadly pandemic prompting ZPCS to scale up measures to contain the coronavirus.

Since then, thousands of prisoners were released from jail through the presidential amnesty programme which was also a way of decongesting the correctional services.

The report comes when health authorities have said Zimbabwe is already experiencing a third wave of the novel virus.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care is urging members of the public to get vaccinated en masse so as to achieve community immunity.-statemedia

PDP In Bid To Block Biti From Parly Return

Purported People’s Democratic Party (PDP) secretary-general Benjamin Rukanda has filed an urgent chamber application with the High Court challenging Justice Amy Tsanga’s ruling which nullified the expulsion of Tendai Biti and other former members of PDP from Parliament.

Justice Tsanga had ruled that Rukanda, who caused the expulsion of the six PDP members, was not a legitimate official of the PDP. Rukanda now wants an order stopping the execution of the judgment, arguing that the legislators could not be representatives in a party they no longer belong to.

Rukanda cited PDP officials Kucaca Ivumile Phulu, Settlement Chikwinya, Jacob Mafume, Arnold Batirai Dune, Simon Chanukah, Williams Madzimure, Regai Tsunga, Chelesile Mahlangu and the PDP led by Biti as first to ninth respondents, respectively.

Local Government minister July Moyo, Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda, Parliament of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission were cited as the 10th to 13th respondents, respectively.

“Their interests are now at MDC Alliance and a default judgment was handed down because I was not served with their urgent chamber application,” Rukanda’s lawyer Everson Chatambudza submitted.

The respondents obtained a default judgment against the second applicant on April 14, 2021 under case HC 5292/29. The applicants have filed an application for recession of the default order under case 1551/21 challenging the default order. The matter is still pending before the honourable court.

“The effect of the order is to render all other pending matters academic on a technicality without dealing with the real dispute between the parties on merits.

“The default order declared the second respondent, who defected to another political party as the secretarygeneral (Chikwinya), whose interests he is no longer representing, hence first applicant would suffer irreparable harm. Further ninth (Mahlangu), 11th (Mudenda) and 12th (Parliament) respondents might act according to the default order to the detriment of the applicants,” said Chatambudza.

“Upon verification, it was discovered that the purported summons upon which the default judgment was based had not been served on me at the time they were issued as alleged.

“Further, when I obtained a copy of the urgent chamber application from the High Court for the purposes of preparing an opposition to the confirmation of the provisional order, the summons had not been served on me. To make matters worse, when my legal practitioners filed the opposing papers to the confirmation, not the provisional order, the summons had not been served.”

Rukanda’s lawyer said the summons were served under strange circumstances “when the respondent knew very well that I was legally represented with my current lawyer”.

ED Okays ZITF

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has approved the holding of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in July.

The development was announced by Dr Sibanda the Secretary for Industry and Commerce in a letter to the chairman of the ZITF which is dated 21 April 2021.

Reads the letter:

Please be advised that the President has approved that Zimbabwe International Trade Fair be held during the period 20. to 23. July 2021.

The ZITF is one of the events that were in doubt due to the coronavirus trend in the country.

Last year, stakeholders including Bulawayo Mayor Solomon Mguni urged the government to suspend the holding of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) citing COVID-19 threats.

Mguni postulated that all national gatherings should be suspended to make sure that people are safe from the novel coronavirus adding that ZITF is the riskiest because people coming from all corners of the globe, will be travelling to showcase at the event.

This year, the Independence Day celebrations were held at the State House, unlike the previous years when they were held in open stadiums.

At the ZITF event, companies are presented with an opportunity to exhibit their products and, therefore, promotes trade and investment through innovation and value-addition.

Hopewell Chin’ono Seeks Removal From Remand

By A Correspondent- Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, who is facing three charges of incitement to commit public violence and another of disseminating falsehoods, has put the State on notice to apply for removal from remand if the State fails to provide a trial date on May 12.

Chin’ono, who was represented by Gift Mtisi, appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje yesterday.

The State, represented by Netsai Mushayabasa, asked the court for postponement of the matter, saying it was waiting for the trial date from the National Prosecuting Authority.

Mtisi then filed a notice to apply for removal from remand if the State failed to provide a trial date on the next remand date.

Meanwhile, the two MDC Alliance youth who were allegedly tortured and burnt with suspected sulphuric acid were denied bail yesterday by Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

Lengwani Mavhunga and Munyaradzi Mafararikwa are being accused of obstructing free movement of traffic after they allegedly burnt garbage in the middle of the road.

State Witness Throws Ex UZ Boss Prof Levi Nyagura Under The Bus

By A Correspondent- A state witness in the trial of former University of Zimbabwe (UZ) vice-chancellor Levi Nyagura who is accused of single-handedly awarding a PhD to former First Lady Grace Mugabe yesterday told the court that Claude Mararike, who supervised the awarding of the degree, was not qualified to do so since he was only a holder of a master’s degree.

Wilbert Sadomba, who said he was chairperson of the faculty of sociology, told court that he was not consulted and did not see Grace’s registration in the department.

Sadomba said there were minutes on how Grace got her PhD, but had no knowledge if the meeting ever took place.

He said Nyagura as the vice-chancellor had the sole responsibility of approving the awarding of degrees.

Sadomba said Justine Tandire, who was the research assistant, was also not qualified to be the assistant since he was appointed by a person who was not qualified.

But under cross-examination, Sadomba admitted that there were progress reports and research material to prove Grace’s awarding of the degree.

Sadomba also revealed that he was not a member of the sociology department at the time that Grace was a student at the university.

Last week, another witness, Julius Musevenzi, told the court that there were documents which showed that Nyagura was working with other UZ staff who were involved in admitting Grace as a PhD student.

Nyagura’s lawyer Tawanda Zhuwarara then asked the witness if he was admitting that the exUZ boss did not single-handedly award the degree to Grace, to which he said Nyagura was working with others.

Musevenzi also revealed that Mararike was responsible for ensuring that Grace complied with university regulations.

Chief magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi postponed the matter to tomorrow for trial continuation.

Allegations are that sometime in 2011, Nyagura single-handedly accepted and approved Grace’s application to study for a PhD in sociology without the knowledge and recommendations of the departmental board and faculty of higher degrees committee in violation of UZ quality assurance, guidelines and benchmarks.

It is alleged that during the same period, Nyagura covertly appointed Mararike and a Chaneta to supervise Grace’s thesis without the knowledge and approval of the departmental board of sociology.

Nyagura allegedly led supervisors and examiners to Grace’s Mazowe Estate where the defence of oral examination was purportedly done.

Ideally, the oral examination was supposed to be done on campus.

He allegedly abused his position by showing favour to Grace, who did not meet minimum requirements to study for the degree.

It is alleged Nyagura’s actions compromised the standards of the country’s education system.-Newsday

Partisan Distribution Of Land Irks Opposition

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance legislators have confronted the government over “partisan” distribution of land saying even members of the opposition deserve to be allocated land since they are Zimbabweans also.

He made the remarks in Parliament during the ministerial question session while directing the questions to Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Anxious Masuka.

Sikhala said:

There are many people from the opposition who have applied for land.

We have heard that land is being distributed on a partisan basis.

His remarks were reiterated by Southerton legislator (MDC Alliance) Peter Moyo who asked why Government was taking long to identify land lying idle.

He said:

How many members from the opposition have benefited? We are all Zimbabweans and we deserve to be allocated land.

Only a handful of opposition members have benefited from the land reform programme with the majority refusing to take part when the initiative was launched at the turn of the millennium.

They argued that the programme was a ZANU PF initiative and they were also against the manner in which land was being distributed.

Minister Masuka denied allegations of partisan distribution of land saying there had been 200 000 applications of land, yet about 10 percent of these remained to be allocated.

The ministry of lands is reported to have asked both A1 and A2 farmers to submit productivity returns detailing what they had been doing on the allocated land as a way to identify unused land.

It is also reported that the process is being slowed down by over 8 000 land disputes that have spilt into the courts.-statemedia

South Africa Ups Border Security Measures

By A Correspondent- South Africa says it will make use of drones and other technologies to tighten security at its borders to stop Zimbabweans and other foreigners from illegally crossing into the country.

The country’s Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi on Monday told broadcaster eNCA that the country was in the process of appointing commissioners to strengthen the Border Management Authority in dealing with illegal immigration.

Motsoaledi, however, warned that the measures to curb illegal immigration could result in loss of lives since no system was waterproof.

Zimbabwe’s borders are still closed for cross-border travel to curb the spread of COVID-19, which is forcing people who survive on cross-border trading to cross through illegal points of entry into South Africa.

Motsoaledi cited unemployment and hunger as the major push factors for illegal immigration, particularly for Zimbabweans.

“We are dealing here with social and economic systems in neighbouring countries,” Motsoaledi said.

“The borders during the apartheid were electric fence, the army, and all that, which we removed because we thought we are a democracy. Now we realise we made a terrible mistake by removing those and replacing them with nothing.

“South Africa is shortly setting up the Border Management Authority, whose mandate will be to secure the borders and stem the tide of illegal border crossings.”

Zimbabwe’s Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe said he was in a meeting when he was contacted for comment.

Motsoaledi said South Africa had to tighten security because the “desperate” Zimbabweans had improvised other tactics to defy the current security measures to eke out a living in the neighbouring country.

“People are illegally crossing through the border and the army is deployed where they cross over. Security is tight, but people still cross because this is out of desperation from what is happening in neighbouring countries, especially Zimbabwe,” he said.

“They go down the ladder to then cross the river but the army is waiting for them. We need a commissioner of the Border Management Authority, whose job is to deal with borders and we are already in the process of appointing two deputy commissioners.”

Motsoaledi, however, said ending illegal immigration depended on the neighbouring countries’ willingness to fix their economies and create jobs for their citizens.

South Africa, the most economically developed country in the southern African region, attracts thousands of migrants annually who seek jobs at farms and factories, but some get into the country through illegal cross points.

South Africa is home to more than three million Zimbabweans, a majority of them undocumented immigrants, who fled the country in search of jobs following the collapse of the economy two decades ago.-newsday

Biti Return To Parliament “Halted”

By A Correspondent- Purported People’s Democratic Party (PDP) secretary-general Benjamin Rukanda has filed an urgent chamber application with the High Court challenging Justice Amy Tsanga’s ruling which nullified the expulsion of Tendai Biti and other former members of PDP from Parliament.

Justice Tsanga had ruled that Rukanda, who caused the expulsion of the six PDP members, was not a legitimate official of the PDP. Rukanda now wants an order stopping the execution of the judgment, arguing that the legislators could not be representatives in a party they no longer belong to.

By James Gwati-The government has announced that all night clubs and bars will remain closed until further notice.

Former Zanu PF Youth Leader Apolojuzi Chipanga Back In Court Over Mnangagwa T-Shirt

By James Gwati-Ex-Zanu PF youth leader, Kudzanayi Chipanga, was back in court over a case in which he was arrested for wearing President Emmerson Mnangagwa inscribed T-Shirt.

He appeared before a Harare Magistrate, Mr Stanford Mambanje, who postponed the case pending its determination by the Supreme Court.

He is jointly charged with former Local government minister, Ignatius Chombo, Innocent Hamandishe and Mathew Mleya on the same allegations.

It is alleged that between December 8 and 13, 2017, the trio connived to wear party regalia emblazoned with President Mnangagwa’s initials, although they knew they were no longer members of Zanu PF. They took photographs of themselves while wearing the regalia, including hats embroidered with the Zanu PF flag, inscribed “ED” and “Kutonga Kwaro”.

Minister July Moyo Personalizes State Land, Says Harare Residents Have No Right To Question ‘Land Fraud’

By A Correspondent| Local government minister July Moyo has told Harare North legislator Allan Norman Markham not to question his move to parcel out City of Harare land to controversial land developer Kenneth Raydon Sharpe saying his position allows him to administer all state land.

In 2019, July Moyo signed the deed of settlement which authorizes the transfer of 273 hectares of prime Harare land to Sharpe as payment for the work done in the construction of Airport Road.

This is despite the fact that City of Harare had won an appeal at the High Court which ruled that they did not owe Sharpe the US$15 Million payment for the construction of Airport road.

Local Government minister July Moyo says he has power to administer all state land on behalf of President Mnangagwa

Sharpe had earlier won an arbitration which City of Harare appealed against but were later forced by Moyo to negotiate with the fugitive businessman resulting in the Deed of Settlement in question.

Markham who sued Moyo, Sharpe and his aides Tatiana Aleshina and Michael John Van Blerk as well as President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the transfer of land to Sharpe was a fraudulent exercise citing a number of irregularities.

However Moyo subtly told Markham and his co-litigants Tavonga Savings Scheme and a Harare resident Jacob Pikicha not to question his decision to accede to transfer of land to Sharpe as he has power to administer all state land.

“The land in question is Stateland and its administration is assigned to the Minister of Local Government and Public Works by the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe. There is therefore no corruption involved. The 6th Respondent therefore had authority to execute the deed of settlement,” said Moyo.

He further told Markham and his co-litigants to apply to the City of Harare and himself for allocation of stands saying they have no locus standi to block the transfer of land to Sharpe.

In his application, Markham together with Jacob Pikicha and Tavonga Savings Scheme wants the land deal between City of Harare and controversial ‘land baron’ Sharpe to be reversed on the grounds that it was not only illegal but a “grand theft” of land belonging to the people of Zimbabwe.

Kenneth Raydon Sharpe, the man at the centre of the controversial land transfer

“The signatories to that agreement namely Herbert Gomba and Hosiah Chisango (COH), who purported to act on behalf of the City of Harare did not have any authority from the City of Harare. The honourable Minister July Moyo lacked authority from the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Deed of Settlement itself is against the public policy of Zimbabwe, it being founded on illegal and extremely corrupt set of facts.”

Markham and his co-litigants labelled the agreement a complete fraud and a massive land heist against the people of Zimbabwe.

“Further the agreement represented a complete fraud, a massive land heist against the people of Zimbabwe. The Deed of Settlement is also a nullity because the agreement contained provisions that purport to grant criminal immunity to Augur Investments and its associates. To that extent, it is an agreement that offends the laws of Zimbabwe and in any event it’s an agreement contra to public morality,” further reads the application.

The Deed of Settlement entered between Mnangagwa, City of Harare and Sharpe says the parties involved will will not take any legal action against each other with undertaking to facilitate the transfer of 654 Pomona Township to Augur Investments within 14 days.

“Upon signature of this Deed of Settlement, the Minister (July Moyo), City of Harare and Augur undertake to withdraw all and any legal actions and proceedings, both civil criminal, pending against each other before the courts.

“The minister undertakes to instruct the Coghlan, Welsh and Guest to release the title deeds to stand number 654 Pomona Township to Augur. Immediately thereafter, the Minister and/or the President shall sign all and any documents necessary to facilitate and effect the transfer of the said stand to Augur or its nominee, Doorex Properties within 14 days.

“The COH guarantees that it has the requisite authority to sign this Deed of Settlement. The minister (July Moyo) warrants that he has the requisite authority from the Government of Zimbabwe and the President to sign this Deed of Settlement as well as all the necessary documents involved in the transfer of Stand 654 Pomona Township to Augur.

“Further to the above the above, the ministry and COH, in the spirit of Zimbabwe being open for business and to support Augur in its continued investments, undertake, subject to statutory compliance, to expedite the issuance of all and any necessary licences and permits to Augur and its related companies for any of its developments which it is carrying out in Harare.”

More Trouble For Chombo

By A Correspondent- Former President Robert Mugabe’s dark horse, Ignatius Chombo is not yet off the hook as he this week appeared before a Harare magistrate, who indefinitely postponed the hearing of his several allegations.

Chombo appeared before Mr Stanford Mambanje and ex-Zanu PF youth leaders —Kudzanayi Chipanga, Innocent Hamandishe and Mathew Mleya on a case in which they allegedly wore some President Emmerson Mnangagwa T-Shirts while they had been suspended from involving in any zanu PF related activities.

Magistrate Mambanje differed the case pending a determination of the Supreme Court.

Chombo is also appearing on his own on criminal abuse and fraud charges and the cases were deferred to the same date.

It is alleged that on October 1, 2005, Chombo hatched a plan to defraud the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) under its “Other Crops and Livestock Support Facility”. Chombo allegedly applied for a loan amounting to $14 billion, which was to be repaid within 18 months and indicated his address as Allen Grange Farm, Rafingora.

He is said to have misrepresented that he would use the loan to buy agricultural equipment. The equipment included a 30-tonne lorry valued at $2 billion, 30-tonne truck valued at $1,5 billion, 200hp tractor four-wheel-drive valued at $2,5 billion, combine harvester valued at $5 billion, 52 dish roam disc valued at $1 billion, nine-row monosem planter valued at $1,2 billion, 2x500kg chicken feed mixer valued at $8 million.
Instead, Chombo allegedly abused the money and it was investigated and established that he had imported various motor vehicles, including a Toyota Hilux Vigo for socialite Pokello Nare, which was delivered at 222 Samora Machel Avenue, Harare

Panicking Zanu PF Wants To Avoid 2023 Elections

By James Gwati-The clueless Zanu PF led government wants the laws of the country to be changed and allow its President Emmerson Mnangagwa to include Nelson Chamisa’s MDC-Alliance politicians in the cabinet, as opposed to conducting elections which would give a winner the mandate to select and appoint his own cabinet ministers.

Speaking in parliament this week during a debate on the Constitution Amendment Bill, Zanu PF MP for Buhera South, Joseph Chinotimba said instead of holding elections in 2023, his President Emmerson Mnangagwa should be given powers to chose cabinet ministers of his choice.

His utterances seem to suggest that his party was afraid of being defeated by the opposition in the next election.

“The President should nominate those he wants to work with. When we went to war, we did not say we want people from America to come and assist us in Zimbabwe. There is no need for us to move in tandem with what other countries are doing,” said Chinotimba in his contribution to the debate in Parliament.

“The President must nominate the Ministers that he wants to work with. If he chooses Job Sikhala to be the Minister, no one should stop him from doing so. This is a law that must be passed as we are moving towards the next elections.

Man Brutally Killed At Shebeen

POLICE in Bulawayo are investigating the murder of a 34-year-old man following a brawl over a woman at a shebeen in Emganwini suburb on Monday.

The now-deceased Mr Nkosana Chipepera was stabbed by a man only identified as Vincent.

Mr Chipepera was drinking beer with Vincent before a fight broke out between the two over a woman identified as Ms Thandolwenkosi Nkomo.

Mr Chipepera died on the spot after he was stabbed with an unknown object.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident yesterday.

“One of the patrons only known as Vincent had a misunderstanding with Mr Chipepera over a woman whom they both claimed to be their girlfriend. Vincent took an unknown object and stabbed Mr Chipepera below the armpit,” said Insp Ncube.

He said Mr Chipepera collapsed in the sitting room and soon after the stabbing Vincent fled from the scene.

“An ambulance was called and upon arrival, the ambulance crew confirmed Mr Chipepera dead and his body was taken to UBH after police attended the scene,” said Insp Ncube.

He appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of Vincent.

Insp Ncube warned those violating lockdown regulations by operating shebeens that they risk being arrested.- The Herald

Khupe Wants Ministers Interviewed For The Government Post

By James Gwati- MDC-T vice president Thokozani Khupe said the laws must be changed and allow the for interviews for anyone the President would have wanted to be in his cabinet.

Khupe said this in Parliament during a debate on the Constitution Amendment Bill, early this week.

“I would have preferred a situation where judges go through an interview where the majority of people will participate because normally, those interviews are publicised and televised.

“Every Zimbabwean will have an opportunity to listen to those interviews such that whoever gets to be the judge, they will say indeed, this person is qualified because we listened to their interviews,” she said.

RE: PETITION TO ARREST DOUGLAS TOGARASEI MWONZORA: CASE RB# 2236/12/2020

On my behalf and on behalf of the members of the Movement for the Democratic Change T (MDC-T) hereby petition the Ministry of Justice Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to arrest Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora for:

1. The theft of MDC T funds to the tune of $6 million

2. Money laundering in violation of Zimbabwe Foreign Currency Exchange Control Act

3. Blatant disregard of the country’s anti-corruption policy

We are coming to the Ministry guided by the Ministry’s Mission Statement:

“To promote an effective justice delivery system and provide legal services, rehabilitation that guarantee good governance, democracy and the rule of law”

It will be 4 months, April 27, 2021 since the theft case was reported December 26, 2020, recorded in RB # 2236/12/2020.

The Details of the case are contained in the Attached Affidavit #A1 attached.

Suffice to say Hon. Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, that theft of any kind, from any person or entity by anyone regardless of their political or economic position should be a top priority of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and the Ministry of Justice. So far not in this case, WHY?

Hon Minister, we have provided the Zimbabwe Republic Police with overwhelming evidence of theft of funds as well as money laundering. Not only did we provide the money trail but also the names of individuals and companies used to launder the money. It is inconceivable that in the face of such overwhelming evidence Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora and his fellow accused have not be arrested and deposed for this criminal offence.

It is also inconceivable that the Government of Zimbabwe that prides itself for adhering to the rule of law is failing to show the world that all citizens regardless of their station, membership and or support for the ruling party are subject to the same laws that apply to ordinary citizens. We are having for a full 4 months now a situation where all animals are equal but some animals are equal than others. This Hon Minister cannot be good for our country and the principle of equality before the law.

I am imploring you Hon Minister to implement your Mission and ensure the rule of law in this instance.

For and on behalf of MDC T Members

RE: FOLLOW UP ON DOUGLAS TOGARASEI MWONZORA THEFT CASE- RB# 2236/12/2020
I am writing to follow up on my report of December 26, 2020 alleging theft of Movement for Democratic T party funds by Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora and others. The case was reported on RB#2236/12/2020.
On Monday February 1st, 2020 there was a published Report by Fungai Mugari, Copy Attached detailing the alleged theft of party funds by Mwonzora and others. I am not the only person wondering why, in the face of such overwhelming evidence Mwonzora has not been arrested for this theft.
The Investigating Officers have so far done a sterling job identifying the various accounts used, accomplices within the MDC T and the illegal foreign currency dealers they engaged.
It appears to me that there is enough evidence of misappropriation. The MDCT Finance Director, Toddy Mapingire facilitated the withdrawal, delivery and collection of the illegally obtained foreign currency. He is the keeper of the paper trail. With the publication of this story I fear they may temper with evidence and witnesses. I strongly believe it is in the best interest of justice that Douglas Mwonzora, Todd Mapingire and others be arrested just like any other citizens would if they are accused of a similar crime.
Justice is blind and should be dispensed without fear or favor.
Yours Sincerely,

How Mwonzora Looted MDC-T Coffers
Fungai Mugari
Harare – Zimbabwean authorities are investigating the MDC-T for money laundering, fraud and violating
exchange control regulations after millions of dollars were siphoned from the party’s account to illegal
money changers.
According to a memorandum prepared by the police’s commercial crimes unit, Douglas Mwonzora with
the aid of one Toddy Mapingire, reportedly transferred a total of ZWL$6,355 000 to various accounts
linked to illegal money changers. The police’s commercial crimes unit has since enlisted the services of
RBZ’s Financial Intelligence Unit to investigate the matter further.
In a memorandum to the Financial Intelligence Unit, police claim that there is reasonable suspicion that
Mwonzora and Mapingire contravened section 5(1)(a) of the Exchange Control Act and section 8(1) of
the Money-Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act, after they used the MDC-T BancABC account number
50863225502015 Heritage Branch to buy foreign currency equivalent to ZWL$6,355 000.
“Some time in December 2020, MDC-T party was granted $14 million by the Government of Zimbabwe
through the Political Parties Finance Act. The funds were deposited in MDC-T BancABC account number
50863225502015 Heritage Branch.
“On 18 December 2020, the accused persons (Mr. Mwonzora and Mr. Mapingire) transferred funds from
the MDC-T party said bank account into Bell Petroleum BancABC account number 15104045502014 a
sum of ZWL$2,800 000. On the same date, ZWL$1,755 000 was transferred into Madzara Trust CABS
account number 1129721914. In another batch ZWL$1,800 000 was transferred to a well-known illegal
money changer Martha Munandi account number 260126563. The funds were transferred in the
following batches ZWL$2 800 000, ZWL$1 755 000, ZWL$1 800 000 making a total of ZWL$6,355 000.
“The MDC-T party had no relationship or any contract with the said company, trust and individual
respectively; and as such there is reasonable suspicion that the accused persons were buying foreign
currency from the parallel market and used the accounts to facilitate their illicit activities. We have since
recorded a warned and cautioned statement from one of the accomplices who received commission from
one of the entities for performing the transactions,” read the police memorandum.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that a police report had been made
against Mr. Mwonzora with the police commercial crimes unit seized with the matter.
Efforts to get a comment from Mwonzora were fruitless.

No Work, No Pay – Mnangagwa Administration Threatens Teachers

Teachers who are not reporting for duty risk losing their salaries after Cabinet yesterday reiterated that the “no work, no pay policy” will be enforced to ensure all teachers report for work.

The decision follows reports that a number of teachers were not reporting for duty claiming incapacitation.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa confirmed the development yesterday at a post-Cabinet briefing.

“Cabinet was informed that the number of teachers reporting for duty had decreased,” she said.

“It is further noted that some of those reporting for duty are not teaching.

“Cabinet wishes to reiterate that negotiations for improved conditions of service remain open under the National Joint Negotiating Council and that the ‘no work, no pay policy’ will be strictly enforced.”

The Government offered a 25 percent salary increment to civil servants from this month while a further 50 percent would be effected in June.

Three weeks ago, Government met its employees and it outlined constraints being faced, emanating from a prolonged economic shutdown owing to the lockdown measures instituted to manage the Covid-19 pandemic, during which revenue generation was reduced to virtual insignificance.

Further, Government coffers are stretched since it is paying for vaccines, with the aim of administering doses to at least 10 million people to achieve herd immunity.

Government has set aside US$100 million to buy Covid-19 vaccines.- State media

Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum Statement On Amendment Number 2 Bill

Dark Day in Zimbabwe as Government Passes Amendment Number 2 Bill to the Constitution

21 April 2021

Today, Zimbabwe marks a dark day in its post-independence history, a day after 191 Parliamentarians voted in the House of Assembly to pass Amendment Number 2 Bill to the Constitution.

Days after marking our 41st independence anniversary, a time at which we ought to be taking stock of progress made in consolidating our democracy, we mark a moment of monumental regression.

The Constitution of Zimbabwe was born out of a protracted constitutional struggle that started in the 1990s, finally meeting with success on 22 May 2013 when the new Constitution took effect.

Unfortunately, eight years later the gains registered are being reversed.

This Bill seeks to amend various clauses of the Constitution, with the result that the Bill wholesomely undermines the separation of powers, checks and balances, citizen participation, Parliamentary oversight and independence of institutions.

A constitution is for posterity. It is a legacy to our future and the generations of Zimbabweans to come.

It is an embodiment of our collective aspirations and the social contract of how we desire to conduct our national affairs.

It is not a document to be tempered with to satisfy the political desires or sectarian interests of the day.

Doing so has far-reaching consequences that would far outlive the architects.

When Parliament consulted the people in 2020, citizens risked the COVID-19 pandemic to attend public hearings.

The results of these nationwide hearings as observed by the Forum was a resounding NO!
Citizens, civil society, the international community and the democratic opposition, all spoke against the amendments.

If our government was truly a government for the people, and if the leadership were truly a listening leadership, surely the democratic wishes of the majority would carry the day.

However, it is abundantly clear that the wishes of the people are a secondary consideration.

Notwithstanding the retrogressive substantive elements of the Bill, the procedures adopted in fast-tracking the Bill through Parliament is unlawful and unconstitutional as it contravenes subsections 328 (3) and (4) of the Constitution.

The Bill, which had been amended outside its original form days before the vote, was passed through Parliament without the requisite 90-day notice period being instituted by the Speaker of Parliament, to invite members of the public to express their views on the revisions to the original Bill.

The passage of the Bill, coming days after the passage of Amendment No. 1 Bill by the Senate, marks a clear sign of democratic relapse.

The amendments we are facing, expose rank insincerity on the part of the government when it participated in the Constitution-making process.

It appears that participation was a self-serving act of political preservation, as opposed to a vision-setting exercise and a commitment to follow the constitutional and democratic trajectory.

Zimbabweans participated in the March 2013 referendum, with 94.5% voting in favour, believing all were genuine in the process.

Ironically, while the current government had previously prior to 2013 refused to back provisions that appeared to be targeting individuals, at that time President Robert Mugabe, it seems that some of the present amendments are person-specific, in particular as they relate to the office of the Chief Justice.

It is clear that the Bill seeks to consolidate and solidify the President’s position ahead of the 2023 elections and beyond.

This insincerity has, in the intervening years, been supported by the attitudes and conduct that have been displayed, in the disregard of the law; unjustified continued suspension of by-elections; the slow pace of legislative alignment to the Constitution; halfhearted and feigned law reform, with the passage of laws such as the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act; manipulation and use of the criminal justice system against critics; and a retrogressive legislative agenda where laws such as the Patriot Bill are being proposed.

Citizens, the Forum, diplomatic missions, the African Union Chairperson and UN officials have all spoken out against this trend since November 2017, warning of democracy under threat.

The actions of the government betray a departure from the independence ideals of democracy and constitutionalism.

History has taught us that constitutionalism, respect for the law and respect for the democratic wishes of the people, unlock the benefits of socio-economic and political progress.

Our stubborn disregard of these truths that have been tested over time signifies dark days ahead.

The Forum registers its deepest exception to the stance taken by the government.

Mwonzora: It’s More Important To Increase Women In Parliament Than To Block Mnangagwa Getting SuperPowers To Handpick Judges…..

Douglas Mwonzora

The MDC renegade Douglas Mwonzora was yesterday struggling to douse fires sparked by his decision to whip his MPs to support Zanu PF-championed constitutional changes that critics say would give President Emmerson Mnangagwa unchecked powers.

On Tuesday, Constitutional Amendment Bill No 2 sailed through the Lower House on a 191 to 22 majority, with Mwonzora’s MPs, except for four, voting for the amendment of the Constitution.

The move by Mwonzora, observers said, confirmed long-held suspicions that the MDC-T leader is a Zanu PF surrogate.

Mwonzora’s deputy, Thokozani Khupe, MPs Nomvula Mguni, Phelela Masuku and Paurina Mpariwa joined Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance legislators in rejecting the constitutional amendments that will see Mnangagwa appointing judges without public scrutiny and extend their terms of office after reaching retirement age.

The proposed changes will also see the scrapping off of the clause on running mates that was set to come into effect in 2023 to settle succession disputes and give Mnangagwa sole power to appoint his deputies.

Following its passage in the National Assembly, the Bill now goes back to Senate, where if it passes, will go to Mnangagwa for his signature to become law, sealing the contentious changes to the governance charter overwhelmingly voted for by the people in a referendum in 2013.

Khupe’s spokesperson Khaliphani Phugeni said his boss voted against the Bill because she perceived the changes as retrogressive.

However, Mwonzora yesterday hastily convened a Press conference, where he painstakingly argued that his actions were in the public interest.

He said his party valued the empowerment of women and the youth, not the part that gave Mnangagwa power to handpick judges and his deputies.

“We were advancing the cause of women who constitute 52% of the country’s population,” Mwonzora said.

“We think the rights of the 52% are more important than the two clauses which give Mnangagwa power. Just to allay the fear, four out of the six clauses in the Bill are in the best interest of the majority of the people of Zimbabwe.

“You should also understand that it’s not over as the Bill will come to the Senate, where it would be debated. Amendment of the Constitution is a process, not a one-day thing.”

Speaking about his MPs who voted against the amendments, Mwonzora said the legislators had genuine cases because they were faced with a dilemma over the “sweet-bitter” Bill.

“I know there is a group you want to promote which voted ‘no’. That won’t be fair. We have vice-president Khupe and the deputy chief whip in the Assembly. Madam Khupe is the leader of the opposition and it’s her responsibility,” he said.

“She was there in Parliament and I don’t know whether she was there at the committee stage. I was not in Parliament. I didn’t vote in the Assembly and the Bill will come to the Senate.”

MDC-T chairperson Morgen Komichi, who voted against the Bill in Senate last week, appeared to be now toeing the opposition party line.

“There’s no democracy without youth and women, hence the Bill is talking of women and youth quota in Parliament and councils,” Komichi said yesterday.

“We have adopted a strategy to put food on the table of women and the youth. We are happy with the clauses as MDC-T. We don’t support clauses that give powers to Mnangagwa, but we lost during the vote.”

However analysts said even without Mwonzora’s input, the Bill would still have sailed through to the Senate, although the whole process had undermined the rights of the electorate.

“Even if Mwonzora’s MPs had not voted for the Bill, Zanu PF had always been the super majority, although not democratic enough to be trusted to make decisions on very important issues to do with the Constitution, the supreme law of the land,” said political analyst Eldred Masunungure.

“What happened yesterday (Tuesday voting for the Constitution Amendment Bill 2) was a subversion of the supremacy of the electorate which is a dangerous trail on the Zimbabwean democratic space?”

Another analyst, Alexander Rusero, said: “Government authorities can amend a constitutional clause or repeal a statutory instrument wherever they regard it necessary, as long as it will help them consolidate power.

“We have had only 19 constitutional amendments in 37 years, but we will have at least 30 in three years under the so-called new dispensation.”

The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum said the procedures that were followed in passing the Bill through Parliament were unconstitutional since the citizens rejected the amendments last year during public consultations.

“Citizens, civil society, the international community and the democratic opposition, all spoke against the amendments,” the rights group said in a statement.

“If our government was truly a government for the people, and if the leadership were truly a listening leadership, surely the democratic wishes of the majority would carry the day.”

Legal think-tank Veritas said the Amendment Bill was flawed and unconstitutional because the clauses which were changed did not go through the normal procedure as stipulated in the laws of the land.

In its bulletin on Tuesday, Veritas said most of the changes which the National Assembly made to the Bill at committee stage materially alter clauses of the original Bill or added new clauses which were never in the original Bill.

“Hence, they are unconstitutional because they were made without going through the procedure laid down in section 328 of the Constitution,” Veritas said. -Newsday/additional reporting

6 Prison Guards, 4 Inmates Die Of COVID-19

Prison

Six prison officers and four inmates succumbed to Covid-19 following a spike in cases during the festive season.

During the festive season, the country recorded a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases with more than 1 000 cases and an average of 30 deaths being reported in a week.

On January 5 the country recorded 34 deaths which was the highest number of deaths recorded in a single day since the outbreak of the pandemic in March last year.

The country’s cumulative deaths reached 500 on January 10 and two weeks later the figure doubled to 1 005. The surge in Covid-19 infections was caused by the movement of people who travelled into and throughout the country during the festive season.

Government blamed members of the public’s complacency and negligence for the spike in cases and deaths during the festive period.

In an interview, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu said despite the surge in cases during the festive period, they didn’t record alarming cases.

“We have four inmates and six prison officers who succumbed to Covid-19 during the festive period across the country. The numbers are not alarming given our population and we are happy that the situation is under control,” he said

“Comm-Gen Chihobvu said ZPCS was strictly adhering to the Ministry of Health and Child Care as well as the World Health Organisation’s health regulations.

He said the institution had put various measures in place at all prisons in the country to prevent the spread of the virus.

Comm-Gen Chihobvu said the suspension of prison visits by inmates’ relatives was part of the measures put in place to curb the spread of the pandemic.

“We have come up with a number of measures at our prisons meant to protect our inmates and staff from contracting Covid-19,” he said.

Comm-Gen Chihobvu said ZPCS has embarked on national awareness campaigns in all the prison stations in the country’s 10 provinces as part of measures to combat the spread of the pandemic.

Last year 43 inmates and 23 prison officers tested positive to Covid-19 at Bulawayo prisons and ZPCS reacted swiftly to ensure strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols. –Chronicle

Mwonzora Takes The People’s Struggle Back To 1997!

21-04-2021

In 1998 the pro-democracy movement established the NCA as a vehicle to fight for a democratic constitution.

By 2013 the movement through the MDC was able to achieve one of the best constitutions in Africa which was overwhelmingly voted for by the majority of Zimbabweans.

It was a long road to get to that point as ZANU PF resisted that democratisation agenda at every turn.

It is ironic that Douglas Mwonzora was part of this process and at one time a contestant for the Chairman’s post for the NCA. He used the same uncouth methods that he is now associated with to try to oust the then Chairperson, Lovemore Madhuku.

The majority members of NCA who were also members of MDC then stopped him in his tracks.

People poured cold water on his unbridled ambition to be Chairperson or President of anything.

During the GNU Mwonzora was given a second chance and made co-chair of COPAC to co-lead the development of a democratic constitution.

At the core of our grievance then was an Imperial Presidency where every conceivable state power was vested in the President. People sought to end that and rightly so they did through the 2013 constitution.

Eight years later, Douglas is now on the forefront of reversing the People’s gains. Instead of clamouring for the alignment of laws to the constitution he has joined hands with the evil regime to take us back where we are coming from.

With the threat of recall he has commandeered MPs to vote for Constitutional Amendment number 1 and 2 in order to entrench the power of the President and recreate an Imperial Presidency.

He has now proved to all and sundry that he is neither a democrat nor a constitutionalist but an opportunist and traitor.

He is doing so to ingratiate himself to the dictatorship with the hope that he can be given some crumps from the feeding trough.

Those who are following him please be warned that Douglas does things for himself and himself alone.

Now it is time for all progressive forces to stop the horse and its rider from purging our revered Constitution.

Govt Tells Striking Teachers No Work No Pay

Government has said teachers who have been absconding from work risk losing their monthly salaries as Government moves to enforce the principle of “No work no pay.”

The number of teachers reporting for duty has decreased since schools reopened last month as they are citing incapacitation.

According to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the situation is more pronounced in Bulawayo and Harare as some teachers elsewhere have ignored the call for strike by their unions.

In Bulawayo, only 50 percent of teachers have turned up for duty with pupil attendance pegged at 68 percent.

Speaking during a Covid-19 Taskforce meeting in Bulawayo on Tuesday, Provincial Deputy Education Director Mr Thabani Sibanda said as of last Friday, the ministry sampled 75 schools for teacher and learner attendance.

From that sampling, statistics showed that the teacher attendance drastically dropped due to incapacitation notices forwarded to schools, districts and the province.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has since asked school authorities to compile attendance registers saying there will be consequences for those who are not attending lessons.

In a post-Cabinet briefing yesterday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said Government is worried about absenteeism of teachers. She also noted that some of teachers were reporting for duty but not teaching.

“Cabinet was informed that the number of teachers reporting for duty had decreased. It is further noted that some of those reporting for duty are not teaching,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

The minister said avenues were open for disgruntled teachers to engage their employer under the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC).

She said teachers who are not reporting for work will not be paid as Government enforces the no work, no pay policy.

“Cabinet wishes to reiterate that negotiations for improved conditions of service remain open under the National Joint Negotiating Council and that the no work, no pay policy will be strictly enforced,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

She said Cabinet also noted that the strong Covid-19 surveillance system that Government put in place has enabled the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to detect outbreaks early.

“Cabinet was informed that on 16th April 2021 more outbreaks were reported at two boarding schools, namely St David’s Bonda Girls School in Manicaland and Embakwe High School in Plumtree. One hundred and forty-five and 91 learners tested positive, respectively,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

She said the situation is under control with all the cases being mild and asymptomatic. The Ministry of Health and Child Care is testing and vaccinating members in the adjoining communities where the schools are located.

“All those found positive have been quarantined. The Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education; and Health and Child Care have intensified enforcement of the Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in all schools and those found violating the preventive health measures will be sanctioned,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

On the issue of the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination programme which is being rolled out across the country, Minister Mutsvangwa said a total of 288 229 people received their first doses while 36 778 got the second jab.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care is carrying out vaccination campaigns all over the country with President Mnangagwa set to receive his second dose today at Kwekwe General Hospital.

The President received his first dose in the resort city of Victoria Falls where he launched the Second Phase of the national vaccination programme last month.

“The nation is advised that His Excellency the President will be receiving his second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine tomorrow (today) at Kwekwe General Hospital. Cabinet wishes to assure the nation that citizens can receive their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccines anywhere in the country without prejudice,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

She said the vaccination of residents in border towns has been prioritised and is well on course.

Government also approved the final Ministerial Action Plan that is compliant with the National Development Strategy 1 (2021-2025), which was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Dr Frederick Shava.

The ministry’s mission is to promote the political and socio-economic interests, the image and influence of Zimbabwe in the international community. It also seeks to protect the interests and safety of the Zimbabwean diaspora.

The deliverables of the Plan include the appointment of eight honorary consuls during the five-year period; establishment of 25 new export markets and facilitating 100 trade investment missions.

It also seeks to improve international relations through such undertakings as signing of 150 co-operation agreements and twenty-six Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreements (BIPPAs).

“The country’s image will be improved through the planned 650 public diplomacy and visibility initiatives both locally and internationally, including press releases, holding regular briefings with diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe and delivering lectures at universities and other key national institutions,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

“In line with the decentralisation and devolution thrust, the Ministry is in the process of establishing two provincial offices in Bulawayo and Victoria Falls.” –Chronicle

You Are A Fake Constitutionalist, MDC Alliance Tells Mwonzora

Tinashe Sambiri|The Constitutional Amendment bill has exposed Mr Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora’s hypocrisy, the MDC Alliance has said.

Mwonzora’s political formation is widely seen as a Zanu PF surrogate.

The MDC Alliance Namibia has pointed out that Mwonzora and his followers are “fake constitutionalists.”

See full statement:

Counterfeit Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora and cronies are Zanupf surrogates! Mdc Alliance Namibia condemns their “Yes Vote” to Constitutional Amendment No 2.

21 April 2021

How can genuine Constitutionalists vote against Constitutional Democracy? Rapacious and overzealous Mwonzora and his judicially-constructed MdcT’s political hypocrisy was absolutely unearthed when they teamed up with their fellow stomach politicians in Zanupf to reverse the gains of the 2013 hard-earned Constitution.

Mdc Alliance Namibia is not perplexed by these shenanigans from Zanupf morons and their enablers because it is now Mwonzora’s pay back time after getting full-time support to annihilate the People’s Agenda to fight corruption and gross abuse of human rights in Zimbabwe.

It is quite pathetic to see those who once claimed to be models of Social Democracy condemning Mdc Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa( Wamba Dia Wamba) of turning autocratic voting together with the oppressive regime to amend the unaligned constitution since 2013. The certified identity of Mdc-T was unravelled in the August House when they joined Zanupf dictators to vote in favour of Constitutional Amendment No 2 which gives Mr Emerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa the following powers to:1)Extend the terms of offices to judges who have reached 70 years, 2) Appoint or promote judges as he wishes without any public interviews, 3) Allow Mr Mnangagwa to appoint 7 unelected ministers. Mwonzora and cabal engaged in an illicit and toxic relationship with Zanupf thugocrats to reverse the revolutionary gains enshrined in the 2013 constitution.

Moreover, it very clear that the Zanupf-sponsored political outfit is now paying back to their masters and mistresses for the solidarity they are giving them in their futile attempt to decimate the People’s Party(Mdc Alliance) using the captured Courts, Parliament, Zec, Army, Police and all other securocrats. Right-minded citizens must not be shocked by the satanic move from Mwonzora because the same Zanupf party aided him with soldiers, police, state security apparatus and the courts to derail the freedom train. Mdc Alliance Namibia is committed and determined to fight against dictatorship. Mwonzora and cabal are just stomach politicians who have sold our Democratic project for 3pieces of silver.

Moreso, it was evidenced by the heavy presence of heavily armed police and soldiers at our Headquarters (Morgan Tsvangirai House) assisting the so-called Constitutionalists to illegally occupy our revolutionary house. Mdc T is now an extension of the Harare regime therefore our people must wake up and smell the coffee. Our MDC ALLIANCE MPs voted in favour of the people of Zimbabwe who were clear that all these provisions in the amendment no 2 were undemocratic and illegal since it is not part of what more than 4 million Zimbabwean nationals voted for. Mwonzora and cronies must stop blackmailing our late doyen of Constitutional Democracy Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai by entering into this anti-people agreement with Zanupf exploiting the legacy of our father of Constitutionalism.

Furthermore, Mdc Alliance Namibia is cognisant to the fact that Mwonzora is doing all this evil to pay back for the Mdc Alliance money he robbed from Parliament through the Political Parties Finances Act. It is a public fact that MDC T is not Mdc Alliance which won elections and got rigged in 2018, therefore it is beyond nonsense to believe that its Constitutional for Mwonzora to grab the money that he squandered like Zanupf Satanists. The money belonged to the people who voted for complete change led by our powerful leader President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

In a nutshell, Mdc Alliance Namibia is certain that the betrayed citizenry in the National democratic revolution shall resist dictatorship in MDC T and support the genuine revolutionaries in the Mdc Alliance who are advocating for the alignment of the 2013 people-driven constitution not its unconstitutional amendment. As Mdc Alliance Namibia we are mobilising and recruiting the nationals in the diaspora to converge and confront these counterfeit or fake constitutionalists. Mwonzora and his politically -empty team are trying to disguise as democratic fighters but we have concluded that these are mercenary politicians who aim to grab everything left by the colonial repressive masters at the expense of poverty-stricken citizens who are scratching their heads for a single nutritious meal per day.

We need new and fresh leaders with the potential to promote Constitutionalism and Democracy ahead of dictatorship and authoritarianism. We need Alignment not Amendment, Mdc Alliance Namibia concluded but Mwonzora and cronies must be brought to order before 2023 elections.

Man Stabbed To Death Over Own Wife

AN Independence Day illegal party in Hwange ended in tragedy after a villager who grabbed a married woman to dance with her allegedly stabbed her protesting husband to death.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda said Advance Sibanda (33) of Makwandara Village under Chief Nekatambe died in the early hours of Monday, five hours after being stabbed by Bongani Dube (31) of Sialwindi in neighbouring Chief Dingani-Nelukoba’s area.

Dube is also admitted to St Patrick’s Hospital in Hwange under police guard with a deep stab wound on the thigh, although his attacker is not yet known.

Dube told police Sibanda stabbed him while some witnesses said he may have stabbed himself to appear as if he was attacked.

Police are investigating the allegations.

“I can confirm that we received a report of murder where a man died following an attack at a party,” said Insp Banda. “They were drinking beer at Makwandara grinding mill while celebrating Independence Day around 1am.

“Dube, who was dancing, grabbed Sibanda’s wife Ms Buhlebenkosi Ncube (18). Sibanda got angry and confronted Dube resulting in a misunderstanding.”

A fight ensued between Sibanda and Dube, who allegedly drew a knife from a pocket and stabbed Sibanda on the right armpit.

Insp Banda said people who were present saw Dube removing something from his pocket and stabbing Sibanda, although they did not clearly see the kind of weapon used.

Police later recovered a blood stained Okapi knife from Dube.

After being stabbed, Sibanda attempted to flee from the scene, but ran for about 36 metres and collapsed.

Police said some villagers carried Sibanda in a wheelbarrow to Makwandara Clinic at around 3am and on arrival they found Dube seated at the clinic with an injured thigh seeking medical assistance.

Sibanda died around 5am before he could be transferred to a hospital.

A report was made to the police who attended the scene and found members of the public still drinking beer and playing loud music at the murder scene, while there were traces of blood near the grinding mill.

Insp Banda said Mercy Rwafa, a member of the community who hosted the party, was arrested for holding an illegal party during lockdown and is detained at Dete Police Station.

He urged members of the public to desist from violence and violating lockdown rules.- The Herald

Chombo approached the Supreme Court seeking a permanent stay of proceedings in the magistrates’ court, where he is facing several cases involving corruption, fraud and abuse of office.

He was arrested on allegations of wearing regalia emblazoned with President Mnangagwa’s initials, although they had been expelled from Zanu PF.

Mnangagwa T-Shirt-Ex-Zanu PF Youth Leader Chipanga Case postponed

By James Gwati-The Harare Magistrates Court has today deferred indefinitely a case in which Ex-Zanu PF youth leader, Kudzanayi Chipanga, was arrested for wearing President Emmerson Mnangagwa inscribed T-Shirt.

Magistrate, Mr Stanford Mambanje, postponed Chipanga’s case pending its determination by the Supreme Court.

Chipanga is jointly charged with former Local government minister, Ignatius Chombo, Innocent Hamandishe and Mathew Mleya on the same allegations.

Desperate Zanu PF Pleads For A Unity Government With Chamisa

By James Gwati-The clueless Zanu PF led government wants the laws of the country to be changed and allow its President Emmerson Mnangagwa to include Nelson Chamisa’s MDC-Alliance politicians in the cabinet.

This was suggested in parliament by the party’s MP for Buhera South, Joseph Chinotimba this week during a debate on the Constitution Amendment Bill.

Chinoz Worships Mnangagwa

By James Gwati-Zanu PF MP for Buhera South Joseph Chinotimba yesterday worshipped President Emmerson Mnangagwa and pleaded his fellow party members to give him (Mnanagagwa)unlimited powers.

Chinotimba told Parliament during a debate on the Constitution Amendment Bill that “as we are moving towards the next elections” set for 2023, more power was needed in the hands of the President so he could set up a team he felt comfortable working with as opposed to Parliament having a say in who gets to work with the President.

Chinotimba Endorses Wiwa For A Government Post

By A Correspondent-Outspoken Zanu PF MP for Buhera South, Joseph Chinotimba, said his party should consider including opposition party members in government positions.

Chinotimba told parliament Tuesday that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s should be given those powers by the constitution even to appoint MDC-Alliance chairman, Job Sikhala in government.

“The President must nominate the Ministers that he wants to work with. If he chooses Job Sikhala to be the Minister, no one should stop him from doing so. This is a law that must be passed as we are moving towards the next elections.

The current state of the affairs is that a party that could have won an election only chooses its members to take up cabinet positions.

You Are A Fake Constitutionalist, MDC Alliance Challenges Mwonzora

Repent Before It’s Too Late, Church Leader Tells Mnangagwa

Tinashe Sambiri|Fearless cleric, Bishop Ancelimo Magaya has challenged Zanu PF bigwigs- Including Emmerson Mnangagwa – to embrace the truth, confess and repent so that the nation can move forward.

Bishop Magaya reprimanded Mr Mnangagwa’s administration for protecting corrupt individuals.

He also denounced selective application of justice and t harassment of perceived government opponents in the country.

Below is Bishop Magaya’s argument:

REFLECTIONS ON 41 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE : THE CHURCHES PERSPECTIVE

It would not be incorrect to state that the past 41 years of our independence have more of heart rending experiences than joyous moments.

Looking back through memory lane, it becomes abundantly clear that there are indelible scars born out of the state induced inflictions upon the citizenry.

Remember the Matabeleland massacres stretching from 1983 to 1987. Remember a bloody violence season from late 1988 to 1990 following Tekeres formation of Zimbabwe Unity Movement( ZUM ).

Remember the economic structural adjustment program ( ESAP ) in the early 90s that left many poorer. Remember the land seizures with atrocities associated with them. Remember the two decades of state sponsored killings, abductions, maiming’s , destruction of homes and peoples livelihoods since the formation of the MDC in 1999.

The cycle within which we are currently ,is characterized by continued protection of the corrupt, deceitfulness of the highest order, continued abductions, arbitrary arrests, selective application of the law and reversal of the gains of the democratic struggle through unreasonable and hatred driven recalls of parliamentarians and councillors under the guise of the law.

Resulting from this has been hurts, mistrust, a very divided nation, glaring absence of commonly shared values and a national unifying vision among many such ills.

The church’s position is that going forward, we can only return to normalcy if we embrace the truth. The bible says in John 8 vs 32, ” You will know the truth and the truth shall set you free”. There is no amount of gimmick and propaganda that can replace the truth.

Knowing this ,the Psalmist puts forward in chapter 85 vs 10 four personified concepts as central to the healing of any nation. He writes, “Truth and mercy will meet together. Justice and Peace will kiss”. A careful examination of the syntax presented here by this amazing prophetic poet shows that : first , truth telling is the starting point.

What is it that has happened before. Who has killed who ? Who was behind the Matabeleland massacres, 2008 post harmonized elections , first of August shootings etc. ? What is the foundation of true nationhood? Second, truth alone will not work.

After truth is told and confession made, mercy ensues. When there is mercy, there is forgiveness. True forgiveness happens easily when there is contrition of heart and brokenness of spirit.

Third, justice not just retributive one but restorative justice will move the nation forward. Justice is against selective application of the law.

Justice must not just be done but must be seen to be done. Forth, when justice happens, peace will be a natural outflow. Peace will kiss justice.

In conclusion , I want to make reference to a peace building scholar by the name Lederach. He talks about reconciliation as having three paradoxes hat it has to deal with.

He says , “One reconciliation promotes an encounter between the opening of an expression of a painful past on the one hand, and the search for the articulation of a long term interdependent future, on the other. Two, reconciliation provides a place for truth and mercy to meet where concerns for exposing what has happened and for letting go in favor of renewed relationships are validated and embraced.

Three, reconciliation should give time and space for both justice and peace”.

The Zimbabwean political leadership has the responsibility to make things right. The church should deeply reflect on thee things and facilitate healing of the nation through the aforesaid process. God save Zimbabwe.

The striker is said to be among the shortlisted players wanted by Kaizer Chiefs when their transfer ban comes to an end in August.

“Marshall Munetsi A Magnificent Player”

Stade de Reims defender Wout Faes has lauded teammate Marshall Munetsi’s versatility, describing the Zimbabwe international as a magnificent player.

Munetsi’s versatility allows him to play in holding midfield as well as in central defence, two positions the Mabvuku-bred star is very comfortable in.

In the last two league games he has played well in defence, a development hailed by Faes.

“For a group he is a magnificent player! He has versatility and is able to adjust in positions the coaches require him to fit in and above all, he does it well, ” said the Belgian ahead of Reims’ Ligue 1 clash with Marseille.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

European Super League Crumbles As Clubs Pull Out …

The European Super League has revealed the way forward after it was forced to suspend its plans for a new league.

Twelve clubs had pledged to join the controversial £4.6 billion competition but it suffered a still birth after several teams pulled out due to huge backlash from their fans and worldwide condemnation, including politicians.

England had six sides in the proposed tournament namely Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal while the remaining six places were made up of three teams from Spain – Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona and Italian trio Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan.

A crisis meeting was called on Tuesday evening and a decision was made to suspended the project, just 48 hours after it had been announced.

A statement released after the meeting reveals the core members of the Super League are now proposing a new European competition.

“The European Super League is convinced that the current status quo of European football needs to change,” read Tuesday’s statement.

“We are proposing a new European competition because the existing system does not work. Our proposal is aimed at allowing the sport to evolve while generating resources and stability for the full football pyramid, including helping to overcome the financial difficulties experienced by the entire football community as a result of the pandemic.

“It would also provide materially enhanced solidarity payments to all football stakeholders.”- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Constitutional Amendment Bill Exposes Mwonzora Insincerity

Mnangagwa Says Election Winners Are Mere Corpses

  • RE-PUBLISHED

By A Correspondent| As government goes ahead to push through constitutional amendments to turn Emmerson Mnangagwa into a monster leader with powers far greater than President Robert Mugabe’s, just what type of a country is this lovely nation about to turn into? Hard Video V11s show the ZANU PF leader saying he believes that all election winners are mere corpses, literally.

In a chilling warning during the same function where he said if he were God, he would deprive all MDC supporters of oxygen, Mnangagwa told a Masvingo gathering in April 2015, democracy is only found among corpses.

Emmerson Mnangagwa

He spoke in the Shona vernacular saying, “to all of us here I always ask where are the majority, among the living or among the corpses?

“They are among the dead.

“Democracy says we must go to the majority. That’s why there is death on earth.

“It’s democracy, those who win elections are the majority.”

From Robert Mugabe To Dambudzo Mnangagwa: Church Leader Exposes Zanu PF Callousness

Bishop TD Jakes Statement On Derek Chauvin Conviction…

Bishop TD Jakes

The jury sent an unmistakable message today that George Floyd’s death was unnecessary and criminal, that every individual accused or suspected of a crime has a right to his day in court and should not be slaughtered on a public sidewalk and that a nation that purports to be a beacon of law, justice and equality is better than what we saw in that video.⁣
 ⁣
We are pleased that the jury convicted Chauvin on all three charges: second-degree unintentional murder and third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. It sends a strong message.⁣
 ⁣
While we are delighted by the jury’s verdict, we are mindful that there’s still a lot of work ahead of us. Our criminal justice system remains deeply flawed. Black people disproportionately remain victims of police brutality and are more likely to be pulled over or cited for negligible or phantom traffic violations. Let us not relent in our efforts to press our local, state and federal elected officials for police reform, particularly as it relates to qualified immunity, bias training, de-escalation training and uniform hiring standards.⁣
 ⁣
My prayer is that this will ignite a safer society where justice is equally allocated to absolutely everyone irrespective of socio-economics, race, religion or gender. Thank you to the many officers who do not stoop to such atrocities and honestly work toward protecting us every day.

Woman Picks Gold Ore For “Nhodo”

By A Correspondent- A woman from Gokwe North District was seen playing “nhodo“, a traditional game using gold ore resulting in a gold rush in the area about two weeks ago.

More than 8 000 people from all walks of life have since descended on the Tongogara community to illegally extract the mineral.

Law enforcement agencies have been deployed to deal with crime, and clamp down on disregard of COVID-19 regulations and serious land degradation and pollution in the area.

Addressing a meeting comprising traditional leaders, legislators and government officials at Gokwe Nembudziya growth point on Monday to discuss the new discovery and the rush by illegal miners, Gokwe North District development coordinator, Martin Musakanda said:

It is confirmed that a woman picked up a piece of gold ore from the place in question. The gold ore was then discovered by knowledgeable community members after noticing that the woman was using the ore to play a traditional game called nhodo.

She eventually led the community to the place, which subsequently led to a massive movement of people from all walks of life to the place.

Musakanda urged the government to deal with the social vices that have sprouted in the area, which is located about 50 kilometres from the Nembudziya growth point.

He said:

We recommended that the illegal activities be stopped forthwith and allow formal processes to take place, that the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development takes the lead, holders of prospecting licences register with the local rural district council, security areas to take charge and that a community share ownership be mooted.

In line with Government’s devolution agenda, we recommended that a community share ownership scheme be created.

Speaking at the same occasion, Gokwe Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena expressed concern that traditional leaders were stopped by some police officers from carrying out traditional rituals at the site.

European Super League Crumbles

The European Super League (ESL) was collapsing on Tuesday night after all six English clubs announced their intentions to withdraw from the competition, less than 48 hours after it was launched.

The dramatic turn of events came after the six clubs, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur faced a furious backlash from fans and the British government.

Chelsea was the first to go followed by Manchester City and then, shortly before 11 pm, by Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, a key architect of the planned breakaway, also resigned after his position became untenable.

Meanwhile, in the early hours on Wednesday, the Super League vowed to “reshape the project”, insisting it could still go ahead. ESL said in a statement:

Despite the announced departure of the English clubs, forced to take such decisions due to the pressure on them, we are convinced our proposal is fully aligned with European law and regulations.

Given the current circumstances, we shall reconsider the most appropriate steps to reshape the project, always having in mind our goals of offering fans the best experience possible while enhancing solidarity payments for the entire football community.

As it stands, Italian clubs AC Milan, Internazionale and Juventus as well as the Spanish trio Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Barcelona are the only teams left in the competition.-TheGuardian

Ramaphosa Condemns Chad Violence, Sends Message Of Condolence

By A Correspondent- South Africa’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned the violence that led to the death of President Idriss Déby of Chad on Tuesday.

A Chadian army spokesperson announced on Tuesday that Deby succumbed to injuries that he sustained over the weekend while fighting insurgents in the north of the country.

A statement issued by the Presidency of South Africa read:

President Ramaphosa has, on behalf of the government and people of South Africa, extended his deepest condolences to the fallen President’s family as well as the government and people of Chad.

President Ramaphosa has furthermore expressed the concern of the South African government at developments in the Republic of Chad involving armed groups.

President Ramaphosa says an immediate cessation of violence is necessary to bring peace and stability to the Republic of Chad as part of ending conflict on the continent.

In a statement read out on state television yesterday, Chadian army spokesman General Azem Bermandoa Agouna said Deby, 68, “has just breathed his last defending the sovereign nation on the battlefield” over the weekend.

General Mahamat Kaka, the son of the deceased Chadian leader, was named interim head of state pending fresh elections that will be held after 18 months.

The news of Deby’s death came after provisional election results released on Monday showed that Deby had won a sixth term. He had been in power since 1990 following an armed rebellion.

Deby won 79.3 per cent of the vote in the 11 April presidential election, the results showed.

He had postponed his victory speech to supporters and instead went to visit Chadian soldiers on the frontlines.

Chinese Company Appeals To Zanu Pf Higher Office

ByA Correspondent- A Chinese company, Beifa Investments (Pvt) Ltd, which recently clashed with villagers in Dinde, Hwange over its coal exploration activities in the area, has lodged a complaint with the ruling ZANU PF party against a local official, Never Tshuma.

In a letter addressed to the ZANU PF Hwange District Coordinating Committee and dated 15 April 2021, Beifa Investments project manager, Zhou Zheng Qiao, who gave the company’s address as 19 Breach Road, Borrowdale, Harare, appealed to the ruling party to intervene for an amicable resolution of the conflict.

Zhou accused Tshuma, the ZANU PF Dinde Chairman, of unlawfully disrupting the implementation of the coal exploration project in the area.

Never Tshuma (45), of Katambe Village, under Chief Nekatambe, also chairs the Dinde Development Association has since been arrested and brought before a magistrate for allegedly inciting fellow villagers to disrupt Beifa Investments’ activities.

Tshuma was, however, granted $10 000 bail by a Hwange court on Saturday. He will be back in court on 17 May for routine remand.

Below is Zhou’s letter to ZANU PF:

Attention: Chairman

15 April 2021

Dear Sir RE: COMPLAINT AGAINST ZANU PF HWANGE

We write to complain against the ZANU PF Hwange Central Constituency for sending the shadow MP to unlawfully disrupt the implementation of the coal exploration project in Dinde.

The shadow MP introduced himself as Reeds Dube and he was in the company of Never Chuma who introduced himself as ZANU PF Dinde chairman.

They came driving the ZANU PF Hwange Central Constituency vehicle (Reg Number: AEN 7737). He said he was sent by the speaker of Parliament who is also sending the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee to Dinde in the near future.

The two ZANU PF officials incited the community members to resist our site mobilisation.

He told the people to beat up the investors and burn the tent. The ZRP officers were there and they warned them against such unlawful activities.

We are surprised that while the government granted us the Special grant to carry out the project, the same ruling party sends its officials to resist its implementation.

We are a law-abiding company and we wish to lawfully implement the project without disturbing the host communities.

The project is a project of national importance as it will feed into our proposed 270 Mega Watts Power Plant which is one-third of the Hwange installed capacity.

The project will go a long way in alleviating the power crisis obtaining in the country.

We appeal to your office to address these issues amicably.

Your consideration of our complaint is greatly appreciated.

Yours Sincerely

Zhou Zheng Qiao (Project Manager)
