COVID-19 Vaccination: Don’t Ambush Citizens- MDC Alliance Tells Government

Tinashe Sambiri|The COVID-19 vaccination programme should be conducted in a transparent process- without hiding key information, the MDC Alliance has said.

According to a statement released by MDC Alliance Secretary for Health, Dr Henry Madzorera, citizens are deeply sceptical of the process because government is not disclosing key information…

A Chinese official is said to have announced that the Sinopharm vaccine has lower efficacy than originally suggested in media reports.

This will not be the first time a vaccine has been shown to have low efficacy. We watched the Republic of South Africa switching from Astra Zeneca vaccine to Johnson and Johnson on the basis of low efficacy. We also saw most of Europe halting, albeit temporarily, the use of the Astra Zeneca vaccine on the basis of perceived adverse events following immunization. This is sound pharmaco-vigilance from governments that have nothing to hide from citizens.

Initial reports said Sinopharm vaccine had an efficacy of roughly 79-86%. Now the owners of the vaccine say efficacy is lower than that. What should Zimbabwe do?

This is time to act on available home brewed data. We have already vaccinated over 205 275 people since 18th February.

What preliminary results do we have on safety and efficacy? The government needs to make an urgent decision based on data as to whether to continue using the two Chinese vaccines or to switch to something else. We now know that 95% of our covid19 is the South African variant.

Could efficacy here be even lower than in China? Only live data collected here can inform us correctly for decision and action.

Starting to vaccinate the population with whatever vaccine available was a good thing. Continuing to use a vaccine with proven low efficacy would be a disaster and a total waste of tax payer’s money. But we must measure the efficacy in our own population. We note curiously that the Sinopharm/Sinovac vaccines are still not on the WHO list of approved vaccines. Decision has once again been postponed to end of April.

Here is the most important advice to government: Travel this journey with the people. Alone you may think you’re going fast, but indeed together we will go far. Transparency in all matters pertaining to procurement decisions, safety, & efficacy of the vaccines has no substitute if we are to have a successful covid19 prevention program. All covid19 vaccines are on trial.

The people must report their experiences and the population must be kept informed. We have already requested weekly reports on adverse events following immunization in the SitRep.That way we can help the Chinese in their vaccine development process.

If You Really Respect Uhuru, Release Jailed Political Activists, MDC Alliance Challenges Zanu PF Regime

Tinashe Sambiri| The MDC Alliance has described the dearth of democracy in Zimbabwe as worrisome.

Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration is desperate to decimate the MDC Alliance before the 2023 polls because the Zanu PF leader knows he will not win the popular vote, analysts have said.

Zanu PF Now A Danger To Nation’s Existence- Hon Biti

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF is now a danger to the nation’s very existence, MDC Alliance vice president, Hon Tendai Biti has said.

Hon Biti took a swipe at the Zanu PF regime for plotting to use “Green Bombers to commit genocide.”

“The dramatic fall of Zim into fully fledged authoritarian construct and simultaneously a failed state lacking resilience or resistance, post 2017 military coup is without precedentThe National Question is now simply challenge of de militarising nation state

The desperate regime presses yet another disparate note of discontent. They want violence in 2023.They want another genocide in Zimbabwe.

They have an itch that needs scratching . Shame on them and their false gods,” argued Hon Biti.

“When a liberation movement fails to reform or renew it withers or decomposes It cannibalizes itself&collapses under the weight of its contradictions.#ZANU has reached that level of petrifaction. It poses a danger to Zim’s existence,” added Hon Biti.

Why the Sounds of Nature Are So Good for Health and Well-Being

New data finds that even listening to recordings of nature can boost mood, decrease stress, and even lessen pain.

According to new data, listening to birdsong helped decrease stress.Mia Kievy/iStock
The whoosh of wind through a stretch of forest, birds calling to one another as they land on branches, the gurgle of a brook over a rocky bed — these are the kinds of sounds that are not only calming, but could have profound health and well-being benefits, according to a research review in the April 2021 Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

For the review, the researchers looked at 18 studies investigating the health benefits of natural sound; study participants listened to recordings of outdoor sounds in laboratory settings. Participants reported less stress and improved health outcomes, like decreased pain, after listening to recordings of nature sounds.

Water sounds, such as that gurgling brook or a steady waterfall, tended to be the most effective at improving positive affect (the psychological term for a more positive outlook or disposition and the experience of joy and interest), while bird sounds were best for lowering stress.

The study’s lead author, Rachel Buxton, PhD, a research associate and conservation biologist in the Department of Biology at Carleton University in Ottawa, says she isn’t surprised by the findings. “From an evolutionary perspective, humans are hardwired to attend to signals of danger and security. And an environment that is filled with natural sounds feels safe and allows us to let our guard down,” she says.

This research adds to a substantial body of evidence that proximity to nature and time spent outdoors is good for human health and well-being.

Research Shows Green Space Benefits Health in Many Ways
Research published in June 2019 in Scientific Reports found that people who spent just two hours per week outside in a natural setting (including town parks, state parks, woodlands, and beaches) reported greater well-being compared with people who spent less time outdoors.

State Security Agents Terrorize Mthwakazi Republic Party Leader

By Sheryleen Masuku

Mthwakazi Republic Party MRP’s President Mqondisi Moyo is now hiding in an undisclosed forest following a raid at his house last month by suspected State security agents.

This was revealed by the party’s former secretary Mbonisi Gumbo in an exclusive interview with Next Level News Network.

Gumbo said members of MRP are worried about their leader’s safety and well being as he is now living in the forest.

A growing number of Zimbabwe’s activists are either in hiding, behind bars or
awaiting trial as ZANU PF led government has continued to face criticism from
the local and international community over the continued clampdown on activists
and the shrinking democratic space in the country.

Many opposition activists
have been detained, denied bail or abducted since Emmerson Munangagwa assumed
power in 2017 following a coup which ousted the last president Robert Mugabe.
The government of Zimbabwe has denied allegations that they are targeting opposition members including any involvement
in any abduction of political activists .

Gumbo however, believes that
Zimbabwe’s State security agents are responsible for the ongoing harassment of
political activists including MRP members.

“We suspect ZANU PF members, the Central
Intelligence Organisation, Zimbabwe Republic Police, and Zimbabwe National
Army, they might be the ones who are after our President’s life.”
Said Gumbo.

Gumbo blamed the state security agents for the on- going harassment and persecution of political opponents in the country. “They are just being petty and their agenda is clearly to form a one party state, they want to kill opposition leaders and destroy opposition parties”. Contacted for comment MRP’s Communications officer Velile Moyo, said the party’s President had vowed to remain in hiding and had refused to hand himself over to the police for questioning because he is aware that his political opponents want to arrest him. “They actually called him to come for some questioning; he is determined not to go to the police station”.

”He said he will not submit himself to his oppressors. It’s part of defiance on his part because we know ZANU PF silences opposition through arrests”.

Nine members of MRP are behind bars in Bulawayo following clashes with the police last month during a protest where the party demanded to know the whereabouts of their leader Mqondisi Moyo.

Velile Moyo expressed concern over the most vulnerable members of the party that are among those who have been detained and denied bail.

“We have two senior citizens who are both way past retirement age.”

“Levson Ncube and Tinos Nkomo are two elderly men that have been arrested.”

Moyo said MRP is assisting the families of those who have been arrested.

“We have been providing for their families with some basic stuff as many of those who were arrested are the breadwinners in their family”.

Sibongile Bhanda and Busi Ncube are the only women among those who have been detained and are currently detained at Mlondolozi Prison.

Moyo said the nine members of the party are expected to appear in court on the 16th of April 2021.

UPDATED- Two Pupils Murdered In Mutasa District. Is It Another Ritual Murder?

Police in Manicaland Province have launched investigations into the murder of two minors in Sambaza Village, Chief Mutasa in Nyanga.

The bodies had deep cuts on the necks and shocked villagers had alleged that the minors’ heads were missing.

It however emerged, after the police arrived at the scene where the bodies were found that the two minors had all their body parts.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the bodies of the two minors were found in a disused toilet pit with deep cuts on their necks.

They had been missing since Tuesday when they left home for school and villagers began searching for them when they did not return home.

Said Asst Insp Nyathi:

The ZRP is investigating two cases of murder that occurred at Sambaza Village, Chief Mutasa Nyanga on 14/04/21 where two minors were found dead in a disused toilet pit.

The victims left home for school on 13/04/21 and never returned prompting a search.

Meanwhile, the bodies were retrieved from the pit and deep cuts were observed on their necks.

All other body parts were intact but with blood-stained uniforms.”

The bodies were ferried to Nyanga Hospital awaiting post mortem.

Human Rights Defenders Blast Govt Over Green Bombers

By A Correspondent- Human rights defender Owen Dhliwayo has said the reintroduction of the National Youth Service (NYS) has the potential to bring more harm than good for the country ahead of the impending elections slated for 2023.

Dhliwayo’s comments comes amid indications by government that the National youth service was set to be reintroduced nationally.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa on Tuesday told a post Cabinet press briefing in Harare that the NYS initiative was important in nurturing young people into becoming responsible and resilient citizens.

Said Dhliwayo:

The reintroduction of the youth militia under the guise of the national youth services is a bad move when we take a look at how it is configured.

The program by its concept is a noble idea but past experiences have taught us that the methodology and training methods that it employed served a destruction purpose which benefitted a particular political party. It has never been about the nation neither has it served any nationalistic purpose.

He added that there is a total shift from the core principles and values of the national youth service where certain political parties use it to maintain political hegemony.

He said:

“In essence, the program should serve the nation because it is not about a particular political party. If government is going to use the same format that we have witnessed in the past, it is a very bad move by the authorities.

Before reintroducing it, they should have engaged and consulted wider in order to come up with a broad based curriculum that is to be implemented. Stakeholders should have an input. For example, the same way that the parliamentary portfolio committees engage citizens on the various proposed Bills, government should have also consulted wider and get people’s views on how they want this to be structured and how it will be approached.

Responding to a question from ZimEye on whether government has the capacity to effectively run the national youth service centres, Dhliwayo said:

“The government has no capacity to run these centres. Look at the social infrastructure in schools, hospitals and even government building, they are in a sorry state. They will take the youths and dump them there without adequate infrastructure available. We have a broke government which is at pains to fund even the simplest of services and they want to reintroduce such a program. They have no capacity.”

Communications expert and consultant Professor Teddy Mungwari echoed the same sentiments adding that the introduction of the national youth service was not necessary as the nation was already grappling with more important issues including a failing economy, unemployment, poor health delivery system and the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The notion of a youth service is important but there is a lot of abuse that goes on. If you look at past experiences, the green bombers were used to terrorize people during elections and that in itself is not welcome to the nation. They harass, intimidate people in their regalia and they are used as Zanu Pf’s terror militia. A political party does not own it but here we have Zanu Pf abusing it. They are supposed to protect the citizens and not a political party.”

Professor Mungwari said the development also reflected that government had misplaced priorities.

“At the moment, we are battling Covid-19 and we have been begging for masks and even sanitisers for schools but we have a government wanting to reintroduce something that is not really necessary. Why do we even need them? What service do they give to the country? Is it because political parties are preparing for the 2023 elections?

In the past, these youths lived in deplorable conditions where they did not even have adequate food. Maybe we will give them the benefit of doubt because they may have reflected on past failures but for them again to say after training, the youths are automatically the right candidates and they get first preference for particular government trainings such as nursing and teaching is also discriminatory and a violation of the Constitution. All youths regardless of whether they have undergone the trainings must be given equal opportunities. Why should these ones be prioritised?

What government must know is that you do not teach patriotism at a particular institution or college. Patriotism is inherent. So I think when Border Gezi started this thing, he was overzealous and over ambitious. The way that it was done, its curriculum was misinformed and after all, these youths were used for election violence.

We now know that later, the former minister and Zanu Pf Commissar Saviour Kasukuwere to be precise employed them and they were put under public service without any specific jobs where they were actually getting a salary. Recently, if its not 2 years ago, we hear that they were removed but it is not surprising that some may to date still be receiving salaries when they are not even employed anywhere.

How transparent and authentic is it that these “ghost workers” are no longer there? Some even got undue benefits from government while some, at some point were given huge amounts of paraffin. Others walked away with huge monies from Cabs under youth empowerment initiatives for non- existent projects. These monies were used on drugs, girlfriends. We know that Kasukuwere used these youths to siphon money from government. It’s just looting. This is just plain looting.”

NYS was first introduced in 2000 as a brainchild of the late former Youth Development, Gender and Employment Creation Minister, Border Gezi.

However, it is documented that the youths allegedly unleashed a reign of terror in rural areas, targeting opposition activists in the run-up to elections in the early 2000s.

The “Green Bombers,” as they are derisively called due to their all-green uniforms, were accused of committing some of the most heinous of crimes against MDC members during the later part of the late Robert Mugabe’s reign.

Mnangagwa Tells Zanu PF Members To Be Ready For By-Elections

President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday hinted that by-elections may be held soon and called on Zanu PF to get prepared, while observing World Health Organisation (WHO) safety guidelines on COVID-19.

Mnangagwa told his Zanu PF party politburo members that they should leave nothing to chance in ensuring victory in the upcoming by-elections and the 2023 harmonised elections.

His statement came at a time when the opposition MDC Alliance, independent electoral watchdogs and stakeholders have been pressuring government and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) to lift the ban on by-elections imposed by Vice-President and Health minister Constantino Chiwenga last year citing COVID-19 fears.

While opposition party gatherings have been crushed by police, Mnangagwa’s party has been able to hold meetings, raising suspicion that COVID-19 rules were being applied selectively.

“Preparations for by-elections must be conducted within the confines of internal democratic practices and provisions of our party constitution, while at the same time observing WHO protocols,” Mnangagwa said.

Most by-elections were necessitated by the recall of MDC Alliance MPs and councillors by the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T after the Supreme Court in March last year nullified  Nelson Chamisa’s leadership of the MDC-T. Since then, 41 MDC Alliance MPs and over 80 councillors have been recalled by both MDC-T and Lucia Matibenga’s People’s Democratic Party.

Mnangagwa called for  activation of Zanu PF party structures so that they prepare for the elections.

“Structures must remain intact. We cannot approach the next election with an assumed membership base. It is fundamental that we know the figures of those who will potentially vote for us at disaggregated ward, constituency and provincial levels. Nothing must be left to chance,” he said.

“The 2023 harmonised general elections are fast approaching. Let us, therefore, continue tightening our belts and diligently implementing programmes with a greater sense of urgency.

“Our people and party membership must be kept informed, mobilised and motivated to be productive towards improving their plight and the achievement of the goals we set out in the 2018 people’s manifesto.”

MDC Alliance secretary for elections Jacob Mafume said: “The tragedy is he (Mnangagwa) is undermining the Constitution everyday. By-elections are supposed to operate by operation of law. Every other country in the region has been holding elections and by-elections when they are due despite the presence of COVID-19. It is only in this country where we have suspended the operation of democracy because of a biological disease,” Mafume said.

“They are the ones who have been running away from the people. We are ready and we will beat them in the by-elections,” Mafume said.

Mnangagwa applauded the Zanu PF’s Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology for implementing a “comprehensive and robust training programme for the district co-ordinating structures and new cadres joining the party”.

He warned divisive elements in his party that they would be exposed and flushed out if they continued disrespecting the party constitution.

“The ideals of our party, particularly patriotism, loyalty, discipline and honesty must remain engrained in all of us. There is no room for malicious divisive, corrupt and retrogressive tendencies within our rank and file membership,” he said.

“Such elements should be exposed,” he added.

On the terror attacks in Palma, Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique, Mnangagwa said Sadc was acting on technical deployment and urged his party structures to be on high security alert to avoid attacks.

“An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us, united we stand and hence, we cannot sit back and allow acts of insurgency to continue without a robust regional response.

“Last week, I, therefore, attended the Sadc Double Troika Summit in Mozambique, where the regional bloc resolved to immediately make technical deployments towards restoring peace and stability,” Mnangagwa said.

“Government is currently working with the Mozambican authorities to establish the number of our nationals who were entrapped during the attack of Palma town, on March 24 2021.

“Against this disturbing background, the party structures across all provinces must ensure that our communities are on high security alert. Let us continue to jealously guard the peace and stability that is existing in our country.”

Land Dispute Haunts Mat North

By A Correspondent- Villagers in Insuza, Matabeleland North province, are embroiled in a nasty land dispute which has spilled to a traditional court.

The brawl started after villagers resolved to subdivide Khemutso Ncube’s land in ward 11, village 1B and allocate part of it to Solomon Ngwenya.

At the end of March, the villagers met and agreed to divide Ncube’s land so that part of it is given to Ngwenya.

The decision was made without Ncube’s consent and he resisted the move.

“They did not respect us enough to ask if we agreed to the division of our land. Instead, they commanded that it must be divided,” Ncube said.

“People in this village are so disrespectful. When I came here 20 years ago, there was nothing but a forest. My children and I cleared this very land with our own hands. I nurtured this land, put a fence around it and now that it’s producing fruits of my own labour; they want to take it from me without even regarding my opinion. That will never happen.”

Following Ncube’s resistance, the villagers took the matter to the village head for resolution.

Ngwenya said he never asked for the land, but villagers were insisting that Ncube’s land should be split so that they parcel part of it out to him.

“The people saw me clearing land where I wanted to start my own field and they stopped me saying the land I was clearing was not meant for farming.

“How or what made them to call for a meeting for my sake, I do not know,” Ngwenya said.

Village head Lucky Sibanda said he was aware of the matter.

“My job is to address people’s issues and this was one of the issues that came to me.

“As their leader, I had to help find a solution.

“I summoned all the villagers to a meeting in which Ncube stormed out of in anger, promising to take whoever wants to take his land to court,” Sibanda said.

He said after the meeting, the matter was put to rest as Ncube refused to divide his land as he had a right to accept or reject the deal.

Mahere Blasts Establishment Of Green Bombers

By A Correspondent- Harare lawyer and MDC Alliance national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere says Zimbabwe’s youths do not need to be sent to military indoctrination camps but an economy that allows them to thrive.

Mahere’s remarks come after the government announced that it was reviving the infamous National Youth Service (NYS) training programme after its suspension in 2018.

Young people don’t need a military indoctrination camp. Young people need an economy that allows them to thrive, an education system that fosters creativity, tech hubs, art centres, modern sporting facilities, recreational facilities & Govt that doesn’t declare war on aspiration.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa told a post Cabinet press briefing in Harare on Tuesday that the NYS initiative was important in nurturing young people into becoming responsible and resilient citizens.

PICTURES: Mnangagwa Flies To Karanda To Open A Single-Lane Bridge.

By A Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to open a single lane bridge in Karanda as he continues his unpresidential approach of officially opening anything including a mortuary in Gutu.

The bridge which is 180 metres long, crosses over Ruya River and will significantly reduce distance between Bindura and Mt Darwin according to information secretary Nick Mangwana.

Mnangagwa has in the past officially opened a mortuary in Gutu, a 20 kilometre stretch of Harare- Beitbridge road and officially handed over new coaches to ZUPCO among other minor projects he has presided over.

Below are pictures of the bridge, Mnangagwa is set to officially open today.

COUNTDOWN: 30 Days to Go And Zimbabwe Will Be Free Of Luke Malaba, Explosive Opportunity For The Masses

Justice Luke Malaba

By Mari Matutu | It’s 30 days to go and  Zimbabwe will not be having a Chief Justice because Luke Malaba is turning 70. We will not be having a Deputy Chief Justice because Elizabeth Gwaunza was appointed without interview in March 2018 relying on Bill number 1. On 31 March 2020 the Constitutional Court declared bill number 1 unconstitutional.

The 7 years that were prescribed by s18(2) of 6th schedule for 7 judges of the Supreme Court to act as ConCourt judges expired in 2020.

No single Judge is allowed to sit in more than one court.

Only a Judge of the Constitutional Court can act as Chief Justice.

Any law or amendment of the constitution is subject to interpretation of the ConCourt.
Any decision made by the President or Speaker of Parliament is subject to approval of a properly constituted ConCourt.

Without a Chief Justice and a Deputy Chief Justice there is no Con Court , no Supreme Court and no High Court. What a disaster. If Zimbabweans cannot take advantage of this then let’s not cry again. Only and only a referendum can cure this.

We cannot allow Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to do it since it is the same entity that’s violated constitution.

Arise. Stand up or they stand on you.

Mnangagwa has in the past officially opened a mortuary in Gutu, a 20 kilometre stretch of Harare- Beitbridge road and officially handed over new coaches to ZUPCO among other minor projects he has presided over.

Covid-19 Hospital Admissions Drop

By A Correspondent- The number of people who are admitted after testing Covid-19 positive in Zimbabwe has gone down with statistics showing that only 36 of the 855 who are infected are hospitalised.

Owing to effective lockdown regulations and the successful roll out of the Covid-19 vaccines, admissions have dropped from 200 in February to an average of 40 this month. From its outbreak on March 21 last year, Covid-19 has claimed 1 543 Zimbabweans. However, a total of 24 782 people who contracted the virus have recovered while the total cumulative cases stand at 37 330.

As of April 12, there were 36 hospitalised cases in the whole and of those three are asymptomatic, 19 are mild to moderate 19, nine are severe 9 and five are in Intensive Care Units.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care said 13 241 people received their first dose on Tuesday bringing the cumulative total for those who have received the first dose to 218 516.

A total of 535 people received their second dose bringing their total number to 29 839. In a post Cabinet briefing on Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the decrease in admissions was encouraging although the battle against Covid-19 has not yet been won.

“Generally, hospital admissions for Covid-19 cases have decreased, resulting in institutions such as the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals reclaiming areas in the Out-Patient Department for routine service provision. However, the Cabinet is advising citizens to maintain a high level of alertness and adhere to the preventive measures already in force,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

This includes during the impending 41st Independence Day Anniversary, when gatherings of more than 50 persons will also be prohibited.”

She also said school authorities and heads must ensure that boarders do not travel during the forthcoming holiday to avoid an upsurge in infections.

“In order to protect learners during the forthcoming holiday and avoid the Covid-19 infection spike as happened over the Christmas and New Year holidays, Cabinet has directed that all learners at boarding schools remain at their respective schools during the Independence holiday in order to avoid travel congestion and minimise chances of contracting the virus” she said.

“Cabinet noted that due to the strong Covid-19 surveillance system being implemented in schools, last week’s outbreak at Sacred Heart School in Umzingwane District of Matabeleland South Province was easily detected and dealt with. Out of the 248 students and 33 teachers tested, 117 were found to be Covid-19 positive,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

“All the cases are mild, and are isolating at the school for the learners or at home for the teachers. Response activities that include contact tracing and strengthening of all Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines are in progress.”

Cabinet also heard that Government is awaiting delivery of 600 000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines following completion of procurement processes.

“In addition, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development has granted authority to purchase 5 million more doses of vaccines. Steps are being taken to increase the number of people to be vaccinated across the provinces, particularly in hotspot areas in Matabeleland South, Mashonaland West, Harare and Manicaland Provinces,” she added.-statemedia

OK Grand Challenge Resumes

By A Correspondent- Listed retail giant OK Zimbabwe Limited will resume its Grand Challenge competition this year after foregoing it last year due to the COVID-19-induced lockdown restrictions.

It will be the 32nd edition and the first Grand Challenge held with Maxen Karombo as the new chief executive.

“The OK Grand Challenge has been cancelled for two years, once in 2009 due to the economic crisis which left shelves empty within all supermarkets, and in 2020 due to the pandemic. We saw it fit to not do such an event,” Karombo said.

The OK Grand challenge will be run through the use of digital media in line with COVID-19 safety precautions.

“The COVID-19 has brought with it a significant use of media and a shift in the way our customers and shoppers behave,” Karombo said.

“It is to this extent that the OK Grand Challenge jackpot promotion in 2021 will be executed digitally.

“A digital promotion will reduce paper in the form of receipts and coupons and the draw will be computerised, thereby assisting in curbing the risk of spreading the virus. The health of our customers is our priority.”

There are five different prizes to be won at the grand challenge, with the ultimate prize being a brand new Toyota Hilux GD-6 twin-cab.

OK Zimbabwe’s business covers three major categories – groceries, basic clothing and textiles and houseware products.

The groceries category includes dry groceries, butchery, delicatessen, takeaway, bakery, provisions and fruit and vegetable sections.

ED Hints On By-elections

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday hinted that by-elections may be held soon and called on Zanu-PF to get prepared, while observing World Health Organisation (WHO) safety guidelines on COVID-19.

Mnangagwa told his Zanu-PF party politburo members that they should leave nothing to chance in ensuring victory in the upcoming by-elections and the 2023 harmonised elections.

Since then, 41 MDC Alliance MPs and over 80 councillors have been recalled by both MDCT and Lucia Matibenga’s People’s Democratic Party.

Mnangagwa called for activation of Zanu-PF party structures so that they prepare for the elections.

Mnangagwa applauded the Zanu-PF’s Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology for implementing a “comprehensive and robust training programme for the district co-ordinating structures and new cadres joining the party”.

Let us continue to jealously guard the peace and stability that is existing in our country.”-Newsday

By A Correspondent | It never rains but pours for Senator Douglas Mwonzora and this time his own High Court litigant, speaks on video ordering him to return the $6million he received from parliament last year.

This is the lumpsum Mwonzora received from the Speaker Of Parliament Jacob Mudenda which was meant to be paid to MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa.

Murimoga is also Mwonzora’s point man who took the late Morgan Tsvangirai to the High Court arguing that his Presidential appointments of Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri were unconstitutional.

But after Mwonzora converted ‘to his own use’ the parliament money amounting to $6million, Murimoga is one of those party workers now left stranded with neither salary nor allowance for several months since last year.

Murimoga has due to his demands, been accused of fronting for Nelson Chamisa, allegations of which he replies saying Mwonzora is simply lying.

Speaking in a selfie video, Murimoga says: “right now you are now lying saying I’m funded by Nelson Chamisa.

“Chamisa is an outsider, when you took the $6mln Chamisa wasn’t there. So just repay the money…we might chose to forgive you …” VIDEO

Harare Man Jailed For Operating Courier Services Without A Licence

By A Correspondent- A Harare man was yesterday sentenced to two months imprisonment for offering courier services to the public without a licence.

Benson Masawi (28), who appeared before magistrate Tendai Muchina was convicted on his own plea of guilty.

Masawi was also given an option to pay a $20 000 fine.

The complainant, the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz), was represented by Courier Services executive officer Taurai Makuvise.

The court heard that Masawi offered postal and courier services without a licence and had opened an office at the corner of Mbuya Nehanda Street and Speke Avenue.

The informant received information on April 6 that Masawi was collecting parcels from Harare earmarked for dispatch to Bulawayo.

The informant then made a report to the police and a team of detectives with the members of Potraz stormed his offices and recovered several parcels which had been paid for and were ready to be delivered to various clients in Bulawayo.

Mnangagwa Neglects 500 Mental Illness Prisoners

By James Gwati- The government is neglecting over 400 inmates with mental illness who have been under this sad condition for the past 10 years.

The affected inmates are stuck at the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) centres across the country following delays by the Mental Health Board in reviewing their cases for possible release.

The ZPCS’ major mental health institutions are Mlondolozi at Khami Prisons in Bulawayo and Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison in Harare.

Some of the prisoners have since recovered and are now eligible for release and reintegration into society. However, the Mental Tribunal Board which has the mandate to determine the release of these inmates through fitness evaluation, has not sat for the past 10 years resulting in congestion as the numbers continue ballooning.

Section 68 of the Mental Health Act provides for the establishment of mental health boards.

Liverpool Fans Stone Real Madrid Bus

Liverpool’s Champions League campaign ended in disappointment as Real Madrid set up a semi-final meeting with Chelsea by keeping Jurgen Klopp’s side at bay in a goalless draw at Anfield.

Real arrived at Anfield protecting a 3-1 lead from the first leg and while they eventually went through in relative comfort Liverpool will curse themselves for missing several glorious first-half chances.

Mohamed Salah shot straight at Real keeper Thibaut Courtois, who also saved well from James Milner, in the opening moments and shot over when he should have hit the target while Georginio Wijnaldum was also guilty of squandering an opportunity to at least apply pressure to Zinedine Zidane’s side.

Real’s best chance saw Benzema drive in a shot that was deflected on to the post, while Courtois was in action again to block Roberto Firmino’s angled shot after the break.

Liverpool ran out of steam and ideas as the second half wore on, and Real defended with defiance and resilience to seal the win and set up a meeting with another Premier League side in Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.

Liverpool’s lack of cutting edge decisive
Liverpool were always fighting the odds as they trailed from the first leg but Klopp knew an early goal would have revived memories of previous Anfield comebacks in Europe – albeit they were in front of full houses rather than a deserted stadium.

And Liverpool have only themselves to blame because they certainly created those chances in the first half, the surprise being it was the normally reliable Salah who was guilty of two bad misses that could have rattled Real’s nerves.

Around 400 home fans gathered outside in an attempt to fashion some of the old atmosphere but sadly the only impact they made was to create more negative headlines with a disgraceful attack on the Real Madrid team coach that left the bus damaged. The Spanish giants received an apology from their opponents and Merseyside Police announced an investigation to find those responsible.- BBC

Mnangagwa Ally Promises Free Recording Studio To Bulawayo Artists

By James Gwati-Deputy Arts Minister Tino Machakaire said government is proposing to construct a recording studio in Bulawayo which will be used by artists at minimum cost.

“We should build a studio in Bulawayo that will help artists, especially up-and-coming who can’t afford costly studios. The studio should be for everyone and be a hub for everyone. The studio will also work as a unifying factor in Bulawayo where artists meet, mingle and create synergies.”

“We will also be having artists from other cities like Harare, Kwekwe, and Mutare coming through to record there and creating healthy synergies as Zimbabwean artists. Another issue we should curb is the high rate of music piracy, it’s a pandemic and we should come up with ways to fight it.”

Cameroonian journo Emmanuel Mbombog Matip detained since August 2020

New York, April 14, 2021 — Cameroonian authorities should immediately release journalist Emmanuel Mbombog Mbog Matip and all other members of the press imprisoned for their work, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.

On August 17, 2020, six armed men in plainclothes arrested Mbombog Mbog Matip, director of the privately owned CliMat Social newspaper who also posts political commentary on Facebook, at his home in Yaoundé, the capital, according to a report by the privately owned CamerounWeb news website and a letter from the journalist that was published by local media in February.

Mbombog Mbog Matip was held at the State Secretariat for Defense (SED) until September 7, when he was brought before a military court judge, Misse Njone Jacques Baudouin, who charged him with “propagation of false news,” and ordered he be detained until March 7, 2021, according to a provisional detention order signed by Baudouin, which CPJ reviewed, and Alex Koko à Dang, the president of the National Union of Independent Journalists of Cameroon (SYNAJIC), a local press freedom group, and former editorial advisor of CliMat Social, who spoke with CPJ via phone and messaging app. The September 7 detention order referred to Mbombog Mbog Matip as a “private journalist.”

Following the court hearing, the journalist was transferred to the Kondengui Central Prison in Yaoundé, according to Koko à Dang and the journalist’s letter, which was addressed to President Paul Biya and the manager of the prison. He remains in custody there as of today, Koko à Dang told CPJ, saying that the March 7 deadline had passed without the journalist receiving any update regarding his case.

Mbombog Mbog Matip did not appear on CPJ’s 2020 prison census because CPJ was unaware of his case at the time. At least eight other journalists were imprisoned in Cameroon in connection with their work as of December 1, 2020, according to CPJ research.

“Cameroonian authorities should immediately release journalist Emmanuel Mbombog Mbog Matip and cease the outrageous use of military courts to prosecute the press,” said Angela Quintal, CPJ’s Africa program coordinator. “The fact that Cameroon remains one of the worst jailers of journalists in Africa is a grave indicator of the broader conditions for the media there.”

In addition to the false news charge, the September 7 detention order cited two Cameroonian laws: Article 74 of Cameroon’s penal code, which relates to “Punishment and Responsibility,” and Article 78 of Cameroon’s Law Relating to Cybersecurity and Cybercriminality, which covers the publication or propagation of information “without being able to attest its veracity or prove [it is true].”

Article 74 is a broad clause that does not detail specific offenses or punishments; violations of Article 78 carry a maximum penalty of two years in prison and/or a fine of 10 million Central African francs (US$18,000). The penalties included in Article 78 may be doubled “where the offence is committed with the aim of disturbing public peace,” according to the law.

Koko à Dang told CPJ that Mbombog Mbog Matip had primarily reported via his personal Facebook page, where he has about 5,000 followers, after CliMat Social halted publishing in 2019 due to financial difficulties. Numerous Facebook posts by Mbombog Mbog Matip from the months preceding his arrest, which CPJ reviewed, expressed support for Cameroonian President Paul Biya.

In the months before he was arrested, Mbombog Mbog Matip was investigating an alleged coup attempt involving Colonel Joël Émile Bamkoui, the commander of Cameroon’s Division of Military Security, a branch of the military, as well as the alleged involvement of senior Cameroonian officials with five people arrested for robbery in Togo, according to Mbombog Mbog Matip’s letter; Flash Ndiomo, the director of the privately owned Le Zénith newspaper who spoke to CPJ by messaging app; and media reports.

Koko à Dang told CPJ that Mbombog Mbog Matip investigated those issues as a journalist and denounced the coup attempt on local radio broadcasts. CPJ was unable to review such broadcasts.

Koko à Dang said the journalist also sought to alert the president about the alleged coup attempt through an audio recording sent to someone the journalist believed to be Cameroonian intelligence official. The CamroonWeb news report stated that the individual was an informant for Bamkoui, and that reaching out to them may have contributed to the journalist’s arrest.

While he was held in SED custody, Bamkoui beat and threatened Mbombog Mbog Matip, according to CamerounWeb and Koko à Dang. Koko à Dang said the beating resulted in wounds all over the journalist’s body.

In February, the privately owned Mimi Mefo Info news website published a video on Facebook of Mbombog Mbog Matip in detention, explaining the details of his case, and pleading for assistance.

Mbombog Mbog Matip was “physically handicapped” following the amputation of his feet in a traffic accident, he wrote to the president. He is also president of the National League for Defense of the Rights of Disadvantaged People, a local non-governmental organization that supports people with disabilities, according to Koko à Dang and the journalist’s letter to the president.

Reached over the phone by CPJ on April 9, Bamkoui declined to comment and expressed frustration about being called and not met in person for a discussion

Trio Arrested For Bashing Neighbour

THREE Victoria Falls men have been arrested after they severely assaulted their neighbour until he lost consciousness before dumping his body in a nearby drain filled with sewage.

Mr Khaliphani Ngulube of 4873 in Chinotimba narrated to police how he was later rescued by an unidentified passerby who pulled him out of the flowing sewage and carried him home.

Mr Ngulube had approached Sibangiswani Nkomo (32), Cosmas Mulima (30) and Qondisani Ndlovu (27) at Nkomo’s house in Chinotimba where the trio was, inquiring about the whereabouts of a friend identified as Mr Brighton Singonge.

Instead Nkomo, Mulima and Ndlovu became hostile towards Mr Ngulube, upon which their colleague Mr Victor Chingenga, who was with them, suddenly pounced on the complainant and slapped him three times.

Mr Ngulube tried to escape but Mr Chingenga pursued him and the two engaged in a fight.

Mr Ngulube then picked a stone and hit Mr Chingenga once on the head and he collapsed.

Nkomo, Mulisa and Ndlovu joined in the fight and started assaulting Mr Ngulube with sticks while also punching and slapping him repeatedly until he fell unconscious.

The trio carried an unconscious Mr Ngulube and dumped him inside a pool of sewage flowing from a burst pipe.

Mr Chingenga was not arrested in relation to the incident.

Nkomo, Mulima and Ndlovu pleaded guilty to a charge of assault each when they appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Ms Linda Dzvene.

Each was sentenced to eight months in prison of which two months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The other six months were suspended on condition that each of them completes 210 hours of community service.

Nkomo will do the unpaid work at Chidobe Primary School while Mulima and Ndlovu will do theirs at the Victoria Falls Registrar General Office and Chinotimba Clinic respectively.

Prosecuting Miss Audrey Mukanganya said the incident occurred in October last year.

“On the 31st day of October 2020 at 8PM the complainant proceeded to house number 1180 Chinotimba looking for his friend Brighton Singonge and found the three accused and Victor Chingenga seated outside. The complainant asked about his friend and was told that he was not around. A misunderstanding ensued over an undisclosed issue leading to the fight,” said Miss Mukanganya.

She said the three started assaulting Mr Ngulube.

Mr Ngulube was treated and discharged at Victoria Falls Hospital while Mr Chingenga did not seek medical treatment.- Chronicle

Don’t Be Used By Zanu PF To Kill Your Own Parents, MDC Alliance Implores Youths

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance Namibia has urged youths in the country to distance themselves from the “evil” Border Gezi National Youth Service.

On Tuesday, Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration announced the decision to reestablish the National Youth Service.

See the MDC Alliance Namibia statement on the reestablishment of the dreaded National Youth Service:

Re-establishing National Youth Service is a rude reminder of Zanupf’s appetite to torture and butcher social democrats, Mdc Alliance Namibia posits!

14 April 2021

Mdc Alliance Namibia castigates the overzealous Zanupf Minister for Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation for re-establishing the satanic cult of violence in the name of the National Youth Service Training programme popularly known as the ‘Border Gezi’.

This attempt to bring back the violent Zanupf militia disguised as youth empowerment must be resisted with adequate commitment.

We are aware that Zanupf looters long to exploit the vulnerable youths ahead of 2023 harmonised elections. The same Zanupf secret police was created in 2002 towards the presidential poll that was marred by politically motivated violence.

As Mdc Alliance Namibia, we urge all unemployed and poverty-stricken youths to resist these hypocrites who masquerade as socio-economic transformers. Before, during and after the 2002 bloody elections, we witnessed highest levels of human butchery perpetrated by these ‘green bombers’ who were used by the late Robert Mugabe to silence voices of dissent in Zimbabwe.

We saw opposition activists and human rights defenders exposed to state-sponsored violence as a way of breaking their resolve to vote for late doyen of Constitutional Democracy President Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai who had stolen the revolutionary hearts of many citizens.

Moreover, it is a pathological lie that the programme is designed to equip the youths with patriotism, discipline, volunteerism, survival skills, hardwork, tolerance and honesty. We are Cognisant of the hypocritical nature of this clueless Harare regime. In 2002, we saw these poor youths used to frog-march unwilling populace to Zanupf rallies. We are very confident that the desperate regime wants to re-start its torture and murder of innocent citizens using our youths. It is now imperative for all our youths to regain their political and national consciousness to figure out the need to fight Zanupf shenanigans.

It was used by Zanupf terrorists to rig elections through killing with impunity, intimidation and torture in the rural constituencies.

We have learnt our political lessons as a people and now is the time for the youths to reflect on this lunatic move to nurture violence in government institutions. This idea of Zanupf-sponsored violence must see wide resentment from our right-minded youths who should continue to demand better livelihoods. Zanupf is also desperate to indoctrinate council employees and they are also trying to compromise our doctors through the same evil nature. Zimbabweans must pent up their outrage demanding respect for our youthful generation.

In a nutshell, through our #OneMillionCampaign launched by our vibrant Youths last year, we shall obviously soldier on with our recruitment, mobilisation and radicalisation of the base for the change that delivers.

Mdc Alliance Namibia is confident that our youths are not going to be fooled by these fake patriots who pretend to love the youths towards elections. Our youths must resist being condomised by the rogue ,politically inept Zanupf morons.

Zim Cricket Legend Banned For 8 Years

Zimbabwe Cricket have called it the darkest day in the history of the domestic game after one of their legends, Heath Streak, was banned for eight years, by the International Cricket Council.

He was found guilty, after accepting five charges, of breaching the ICC anti-corruption code. The 47-year-old’s transgressions are centred on disclosing inside information, and facilitating corrupt approaches, for betting purposes…

The ICC Anti-Corruption Unit said this happened over a period of 15 months, between 2016 and 2018, during his time as coach of the Chevrons and some cricket clubs in India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The ban is with immediate effect and will end on March 28, 2029. ‘’Zimbabwe Cricket welcomes and endorses the ICC’s decision to ban former Zimbabwe captain and coach, Heath Streak, from all cricket activities for eight years,’’ ZC president, Tavengwa Mukuhlani, said.

‘’For a sporting discipline that prides itself, as the gentlemen’s game, this is a very sad and shameful episode that might well go down in history as the darkest day in Zimbabwean cricket.

‘’As he represented, and captained Zimbabwe before later coaching the national side over the years, Streak was a powerful figure adored by many and held up as an idol for future generations of cricketers.

‘’In doing this, he held a position of trust and owed a duty to uphold the integrity of the game. ’But, as we and the rest of the world now know, Streak was also a corrupt, greedy and selfish character who, regrettably, abused his status and position in pursuit of dirty benefits.

‘’He has let cricket down, he has let down the teams and players he coached, he has let the nation down, he has let down the fans – including impressionable children – who loved and idolised him.

‘’While we have been left to pick up the pieces from the damage, it is our hope that the punishment meted out on Streak will help to reinforce the measures that the ICC and ZC, have been taking to root out any wrongdoing in cricket.’’

The ICC charge sheet revealed Streak passed on information on matches and contact details of players, including one national team captain, to an unnamed Indian bookmaker, involved in cricket betting.

The identity of the national team captain, or the country he plays or played for, was not immediately clear, last night.

Streak is the third ex-Zimbabwean cricket official, to be banned by the ICC, for corrupt activities, in recent years. In 2018, Rajan Nayer, then treasurer and marketing director of the Harare Metropolitan Cricket Association, was banned from all cricket activities for 20 years for attempting to fix the Test match between Zimbabwe and the West Indies.

Nayer had unsuccessfully tried to approach former national team captain, Graeme Cremer, and influence him to be part of his machinations.

The following year, former chairman of the Harare Metropolitan Cricket Association, Enock Ikope, was also banned from all cricket, for 10 years. The ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal found him guilty of breaching three counts of the organisation’s code, in the same match-fixing case.

Streak was found guilty of accepting cash and gifts, in exchange for his information, when he was fully aware this was not allowed by the ICC. He also tried to conceal the evidence.

Streak admitted to accepting two bitcoins, from the bookmaker, which was subsequently converted into US$35 000 cash. He was also gifted with a new iPhone.

However, Streak did not disclose the approaches, which is an offence, and the gifts to the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit or the Designated Anti-Corruption officials.

He also tried to delay investigations, and also defeat the course of justice, by deleting WhatsApp messages, and exchanging notes with his co-accused Indian partner, during the investigations by the Anti-Corruption Unit.

ICC General Manager – Integrity Unit – Alex Marshall, said Streak should have led by example, as someone who had been in the game for several years.

“Heath Streak is an experienced former international cricketer and national team coach, who had participated in numerous anti-corruption education sessions and was fully aware of his responsibilities under the Code,’’ said Marshall.

“As a former captain and coach, he held a position of trust and owed a duty to uphold the integrity of the game. He has also expressed his remorse and contrition and entered this agreed sanction decision to avoid the need for a full disciplinary process.’’

He committed the offences while he was bowling coach for Zimbabwe, the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League and the Kabul Zwanan team, during the 2018 Afghanistan Premier League.

“The charges are as follows: “2.3.2 — disclosing inside information under both the ICC Code and various domestic Codes, in circumstances where he knew or should have known that such information may be used for betting purposes, in particular, he disclosed inside information in relation to matches in the 2018 Tri-Series “involving Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the Zimbabwe v Afghanistan series in 2018, the IPL 2018 and the APL 2018.

“2.3.3 — directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any participant to breach the Code. In particular, he facilitated or attempted to facilitate the introduction of four different players, including a national captain, to someone he knew, or should have known, may have wanted to approach them to provide inside information for betting purposes.

“2.4.2 — Failing to disclose the receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality or other benefit that the participant knew or should have known was given to them to procure a breach of the Code or that was made or given in circumstances that could bring the participant or the sport of cricket into disrepute.

“2.4.4 — Failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code including in relation to international matches, matches in the 2017 BPL, the 2018 Pakistan Super League, the 2018 IPL and the 2018 APL.

“Article 2.4.7 — obstructing or delaying an investigation, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and / or that may be evidence of or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.“Under the provisions of the code, Mr Streak chose to admit the charges and agreed the sanction with the ICC in lieu of an Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing. He will be free to resume his involvement in the game on 28 March 2029.”

But, by way of a letter agreement dated 28 March 2021, Streak formally admitted that he had breached the Code provisions and waived his right to a hearing before the Anti-Corruption Tribunal.

While Streak has been handed an eight-year ban, former South African captain, the late Hansie Cronje, was hit with a life ban, in a match-fixing saga, which exploded at the turn of the millennium. -Herald

Demos The Only Way, Says ZCTU

Workers under the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) banner have declared that a crippling general strike was the only way out of the current salary crisis as government was not keen on addressing their plight.

Peter Mutasa

ZCTU president Peter Mutasa said a crucial meeting involving doctors, teachers, the Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions and other stakeholders was held recently to find a lasting solution to the disputes.

He said the general feeling was that a general strike that stops all workers from going to work was the only way out.

Mutasa said workers should unite to force the private and public sector employers into action, adding that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration did not have any appetite to resolve workers’ problems.

“We know that we will not get anything if we do not unite and fight back together,” Mutasa said.

“The only way is a national strike that makes sure the whole country’s workforce stops working. That is the only way in the public and private sectors and if we don’t do that, the employer will always find ways of victimising workers at the workstation and we need a general strike and we need all workers to unite.”

Mutasa added: “Recently, we had the salaries and wages summit that was convened by the ZCTU and attended by the Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions, other teachers unions, and the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association.

“We are continuing to urge all workers to unite and to fight back. For as long as we are united, we are very optimistic that we will get what we are demanding.”

Civil servants have been engaged in talks with the government but the dialogue is on the verge of collapse after the parties failed to agree on two occasions.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou also confirmed that union leaders were consulting their members on the issue of a general strike. He said indications were that people were speaking with one voice.

Zhou said teachers were already implementing their two-day working week programme, adding that threats by the government would not stop them.

“It is a minimum of one day and a maximum of two days. We have received threats from some government officials who said teachers are sabotaging the government and must resign. They are the ones to resign because they are not paying their workers,” he said.

“We were trying to find common ground to say the government must not deal with us in private pockets and as workers we must lobby employers to pay us well and that consultation is going on and we are moving towards consolidation of worker positions for a national lobby by workers and there was general consensus on that.”

Labour minister Paul Mavima said there was one more meeting to go before a deadlock could be declared, but threatened a “no work, no salary principle” to stop workers from engaging in job action.

Civil servants have declared incapacitation and are demanding the pre-October 2018 salaries of between US$520 and US$550 a month.

Opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa waded into the salary war, saying: “No to slave wages. When the economy has dollarised with fuel, tollgates, passports being charged in US dollars, it is not only illogical, but outrightly cruel to pay civil service salaries in worthless RTGS. Pay decent wages. Maintain people’s right to dignity.

“You can’t leave in a distorted market, a distorted stock market, a distorted foreign currency market and a distorted commodity market. It is so because of a distorted (2018) election.

“You cannot have the most expensive fuel in the region with salaries not meeting the high cost of living. That is fiction and why do we believe in fiction like that? No country develops on the basis of fiction. People cannot plan their lives properly because of this kind of economy.”

He said the way out was to address the “distorted” politics of the day that has led to the crisis.

“Zimbabweans have not known normal lives for long. They cannot breathe, doctors cannot breathe, nurses cannot breathe, teachers cannot breathe, and civil servants cannot breathe,” Chamisa said. “The solution is to address the distorted politics first and the economy will fall into place.” Newsday

Baby Drowns In Bucket

The trial of a 29-year-old Zimbabwean woman who is accused of drowning her newly-born baby girl in a 20-litre bucket of boiling water in South Africa has been set for May 14 at the Brits Magistrates Court in Gauteng province.
Wendy Tapiwa Chipo of Rietfonten who is facing murder charges was remanded to May 14.

National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) spokesperson for North Gauteng, Ms Lumka Mahanjana said offence was committed on March 16.

She said prior to the infanticide, the woman had allegedly tried to abort the pregnancy without success.

“It is alleged that Chipo tried to abort her baby, when that failed and the baby came out alive, she dipped her in a 20-litre bucket of boiling water,” said Ms Mahanjana.

“She then put the body into a plastic bag. Together with her friend, they went to bury the baby at a nearby bush”.

Ms Mahanjana said the cat was let out of the bag on March 17, when the friend who could no longer keep the secret reported the matter to the police.

She also took the police to the shallow grave they had buried the baby and her remains were recovered. “Chipo was arrested a day later while on the run to Pretoria,” said Ms Mahanjana.

Last year a 42-year-old mentally challenged Zimbabwean woman killed her six-year-old daughter in Kwazulu Natal.

In 2019, a 30-year-old Zimbabwean woman was left grieving when her newborn baby fell to his death at Mamelodi Hospital, east of Pretoria, after nurses allegedly refused to help her when she gave birth while standing.

Theresa Ngwendu told South African media that she was rushed to the hospital as she was about to go into labour.

She said a nurse at the hospital refused to assist her on arrival and told her “this is not Zimbabwe”, resulting in her giving birth while standing. Herald

Sitoboli Maluko killed Violet Ncube as his 16-year-old stepson watched in shock on Monday last week.

After committing the gruesome murder, Maluko hanged himself on a tree near the crime scene.

The police officer commanding Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo confirmed the incident yesterday and that the couple’s bodies were taken to the Beitbridge District Mortuary pending post-mortem.

Chief Supt Nyongo said the man followed in hot pursuit and struck the woman on the right knee and she fell down.

He said Maluko chopped off Ncube’s left palm inflicting a deep cut on the right wrist, before striking her on the right side of the neck with an axe.

Return Of Green Bombers: What Are The Implications?

Tinashe Sambiri|Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration on Tuesday stunned the nation after announcing the reestablishment of the dreaded National Youth Service.

Members of the National Youth Services also known as Green Bombers were used by Zanu PF to terrorize opposition members before and during previous elections.

According to MDC Alliance Youth Assembly national spokesperson, Stephen Sarkozy Chuma, Mnangagwa wants to use Green Bombers to intimidate the electorate before the 2023 polls:

National Youth Service Re-establishment: Mnangagwa Laying Ground For Violence In 2023 Elections

14-04-2021

The MDC Alliance Youth Assembly is deeply concerned about the news that Emmerson Mnangagwa’s cabinet has approved the re-establishment of the so-called National Youth Service Programme.

While the idea of the National Youth Service is a noble one as is the case in other parts of the world, it is the nurture in which it has been done and abused in Zimbabwe in the past that makes it suspicious.

In particular the way in which the youths were used as instruments of terror in previous elections.

In the past the National Youth Service became a reproduction machine for violent thugs for ZANU PF with neither skills nor sense of genuine patriotism.

The ‘green bombers’ as products of National Youth Service are infamously referred to were trained as party militia who were unleashed on their very own parents ahead and post 2008 harmonised elections.

Limbs and lives were lost at hands of thugs churned out from a political party controlled National Youth Service!

Sadly the people who were at the forefront of this kind of a National Youth Service that caused our people untold suffering during Robert Mugabe’s time, are the very same criminals who are now pushing for its re-establishment now.

Mnangagwa is very much afraid of a peaceful, free and fair electoral contest against a popular and youthful Nelson Chamisa ahead of the 2023 showdown.

He knows very well that 2023 is his Waterloo hence these desperate attempts to resuscitate a National Youth Service to be used as merchants of violence and intimidation as we head towards elections.

It is also important to note that the idea of a re-establishment of National Youth Service is being mooted at the same time the regime is pushing for the introduction of a Patriotic Bill to insulate Mnangagwa from scrutiny by citizens.

What is important to note here is that Mnangagwa is pursuing his one party stage agenda using both lawfare and coersion.

The coersive part is where the National Youth Service is coming in to force citizens to vote for ZANU PF in 2023 elections.

As the MDC Alliance Youth Assembly we are totally against the re-establishment of the National Youth Service especially given that it is being driven by a political party to pursue their parochial interests.

Confirmed : Peter Muduhwa Starts Training With Bosso

Peter Muduhwa has joined the Highlanders camp ahead of the start of the 2021 season.

The defender returned home after a short unsuccessful stint with Tanzanian giants Simba SC. He had joined the club on a six-month loan but terminated the contract just three months into the deal.

Muduhwa didn’t feature in any game in the Champions League where he was only eligible to play, missing all of the team’s match-day squads in Group A.

The lack of game time prompted him to return to his parent club ahead of the new season.

He took part in the team’s medicals on Tuesday and is expected to feature in the Independence Cup against Dynamos this weekend.

The Sunday’s encounter, which is part of the Independence Day celebrations, will open the 2021 season and mark the return of football in the country after a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The venue for the match is National Sports Stadium in Harare.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Musona To Stay At KAS Eupen

Warriors captain Knowledge Musona has reaffirmed his desire to stay at KAS Eupen beyond the end of the season after the expiration of his loan spell.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Team Panda from Anderlecht, a club he joined in 2018 but struggled to get game time before being loaned to Eupen.

Musona’s deal at Eupen ends at the end of the current season and even though the Aces Youth Academy graduate says he has no idea what will happen, he insisted he would prefer staying at the Bernat San Jose-coached side.

“Eupen is like my home,” said Musona after Friday’s defeat to Standard Liege.

“I’m happy here. I have always given my best but for next season, I don’t know anything yet,” he added.-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Breaking : Masvingo Prophet “Anoints” Weed, Beer

Beer

Own Correspondent |Unbelievable things are happening in this country …

Some believers say these are the signs of the end of time.

Controvesial Masvingo preacher and slayqueens godfather Isaac Makomichi has triggered widespread debate after ” blessing” weed and beer in the country.

“If you drink beer you must always come to God and thank Him for his blessings upon your life.

If you are addicted to weed you must pray before taking it then God will bless you.

Don’t allow people to judge you because you smoke weed or you take alcohol, ask God to bless you. From today I bless those who take weed and beer.

Beer is now blessed and the one who drinks it will be blessed, pray for good behaviour before taking weed,” said Makomichi.

“The prophet said we should not judge people because they take alcohol,”said one believer.

Sources say Makomichi is the one who supplies love charms to famous slay queens.

Mnangagwa Plot To Use Green Bombers To Subvert The Will Of The People Exposed

Why the Sounds of Nature Are So Good for Health and Well-Being

New data finds that even listening to recordings of nature can boost mood, decrease stress, and even lessen pain.

By Elizabeth Millard

Return Of Green Bombers – A Telling Reminder Of Zanu PF’s Appetite For Killing Opposition Members

This sadist attempt to bring back the violent Zanupf militia disguised as youth empowerment must be resisted with adequate commitment.

The unprecedented arbitrary arrests and detention of our youths is a testimony of an careless government. We salute our youthful, organic and pragmatic leadership who are being incarcerated for demanding equality and justice before law.

#BREAKING- Former Zim Cricket Captain Slapped With 8yr Ban Over Corruption

Former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak has been banned for eight years after being charged with – and admitting to – five breaches of the ICC’s anti-corruption code, including accepting a payment in bitcoins from a potential corruptor.

Streak, Zimbabwe’s greatest fast bowler, had been under investigation for an extensive list of games through 2017 and 2018, during his post-playing career as a coach, from his time in international cricket – with Zimbabwe from 2016 to 2018 – as well as stints in T20 leagues including the IPL, the BPL and the Afghanistan Premier League (APL).

The charges paint a picture of Streak as a facilitator of approaches by a corruptor to people within teams he was a part of. But they also include one charge of disclosing inside information pertaining to matches during a 2018 tri-series involving Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, a Zimbabwe-Afghanistan series in 2018, the 2018 IPL and the 2018 APL.

Streak was also charged with facilitating or attempting to introduce four players – including a national captain – to a potential corruptor. The three other charges revolve around his failure to disclose receiving gifts or payment in lieu of this facilitation, the failure to disclose potentially corrupt approaches in the 2017 BPL, and, in 2018, the PSL, IPL and the APL. Those gifts include accepting two bitcoins – converted eventually into US$ 35,000 – from the potential corruptor identified in the ICC’s investigation as Mr X. At the APL, Streak was also gifted a new iPhone for this wife, both of which he failed to disclose to ICC anti-corruption investigators.

Although he is believed to initially have contested the allegations, Streak eventually admitted to the charges and agreed to the sanctions. He is now banned from all cricket activities and would be free to resume his involvement again on March 28, 2029.

“Heath Streak is an experienced former international cricketer and national team coach, who had participated in numerous anti-corruption education sessions and was fully aware of his responsibilities under the Code,” the ICC’s anti-corruption head Alex Marshall said in a statement. “As a former captain and coach, he held a position of trust and owed a duty to uphold the integrity of the game. He breached the Code on several occasions, including facilitating the approach of four other players. At times, he also sought to obstruct and delay our investigation.

“The offences did not affect the outcomes of any relevant matches and Mr Streak has agreed to assist the ICC anti-corruption education programme for which we are grateful. He has also expressed his remorse and contrition and entered this agreed sanction decision to avoid the need for a full disciplinary process. The sanction reflects this cooperation.”

The sanctions will come as a shock to many given his status as one of the greatest players Zimbabwe has produced. He was a major figure in the national sides of the mid-to-late 90s, a period in which they enjoyed their greatest successes. He remains the only Zimbabwean bowler with more than 100 Test wickets (he has 216) and the only Zimbabwean with over 200 ODI wickets (237). Streak captained Zimbabwe as well in the 2000s, during a difficult periods when a number of players withdrew from the national side and as relations between the board and team hit rock bottom.

He has since remained in cricket as a coach, with stints as bowling coach of Bangladesh and multiple stints with Zimbabwe. He was also bowling coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.

The charges

2.3.2 – disclosing inside information under both the ICC code and various domestic codes, in circumstances where he knew or should have known that such information may be used for betting purposes. In particular, he disclosed inside information in relation to matches in the 2018 tri-series involving Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the Zimbabwe vs Afghanistan series in 2018, the IPL 2018 and the APL 2018.

2.3.3 – directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any participant to breach the code. In particular, he facilitated or attempted to facilitate the introduction of four different players, including a national captain, to someone he knew, or should have known, may have wanted to approach them to provide inside information for betting purposes.

2.4.2 – failing to disclose the receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality or other benefit that the participant knew or should have known was given to them to procure a breach of the code or that was made or given in circumstances that could bring the participant or the sport of cricket into disrepute.

2.4.4 – failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the code including in relation to international matches, matches in the 2017 BPL, the 2018 PSL, the 2018 IPL and the 2018 APL.

2.4.7 – obstructing or delaying an investigation, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and/or that may be evidence of or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the ICC Anti-Corruption code.

JUST IN: Heath Streak banned for eight years

Former Zimbabwe senior national cricket team captain, Heath Streak has been handed an eight-year ban from all involvement in the game by the International Cricket Council after he accepted five charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

In a statement released by the ICC on Wednesday, the 47-year old Streak was charged as a participant under the code by virtue of his status as the coach of Zimbabwe from 2016 to 2018 and as the coach of various domestic teams.

According to the ICC, under the provisions of the Code, Streak chose to admit the charges and agreed the sanction with the ICC in lieu of an Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing. He will be free to resume his involvement in the game on 28 March 2029.

The charges are as follows:

  1. 2.3.2 – disclosing inside information under both the ICC Code and various domestic Codes, in circumstances where he knew or should have known that such information may be used for betting purposes.  In particular, he disclosed inside information in relation to matches in the 2018 Tri-Series involving Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the Zimbabwe v Afghanistan series in 2018, the IPL 2018 and the APL 2018.

  3. 2.4.2 – Failing to disclose the receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality or other benefit that the participant knew or should have known was given to them to procure a breach of the Code or that was made or given in circumstances that could bring the participant or the sport of cricket into disrepute.
  4. 2.4.4 – Failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code including in relation to international matches, matches in the 2017 BPL, the 2018 Pakistan Super League, the 2018 IPL and the 2018 APL.
  5. Article 2.4.7 – obstructing or delaying an investigation, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and / or that may be evidence of or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

Alex Marshall, ICC General Manager, Integrity Unit, said: “Heath Streak is an experienced former international cricketer and national team coach, who had participated in numerous anti-corruption education sessions and was fully aware of his responsibilities under the Code.

“As a former captain and coach, he held a position of trust and owed a duty to uphold the integrity of the game. He breached the Code on several occasions, including facilitating the approach of four other players. At times, he also sought to obstruct and delay our investigation.

Marshall stated that Streak’s offences did not affect the outcomes of any relevant matches and the Zimbabwean has agreed to assist the ICC anti-corruption education programme for which the world cricket governing body is grateful. Streak has also expressed his remorse and contrition and entered this agreed sanction decision to avoid the need for a full disciplinary process, with the sanction reflective of his cooperation.

ED Issues Directive For Chilonga Villagers Displacement

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has directed that no villagers should be displaced by an irrigation project to be implemented by government in the Chilonga area of Chiredzi.

Last month, the State came under fire for attempting to displace over 12 000 Chilonga villagers to set up a lucerne grass farming project after it issued Statutory Instrument (SI) 50 of 2021, which was then repealed and replaced with SI 72A of 2021.

On Sunday, Mnangagwa dispatched his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, to Chilonga to “communicate key decisions of government to chiefs, headmen, councillors and MPs in Chiredzi, ahead of a massive irrigation project planned for the district.”

Yesterday, Presidential spokesperson George Charamba tweeted: “Through the Vice-President (Constantino Chiwenga), President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa directed that the list of beneficiaries for the giant Kilimanjaro sugarcane covering 4 000 hectares be drawn anew to ensure beneficiaries are locals in the main.

“The President has taken a poignant interest in who is who on the list to ensure that government policy of local empowerment is not defeated by land barons from
elsewhere intent on displacing locals, as happened during the colonial era when commercial cane agriculture took form through international finance capital.”.

He said government was embarking on the development of key infrastructure, such as bridges, roads and soft communications to improve mobility and access to markets and inputs in the area.

“Development of Chiredzi falls within a broader national plan targeting for development of all marginal areas of Zimbabwe, principally Binga, Gwai-Shangani, Beitbridge, Chiredzi itself, Middle Sabi, Nyashanu, Rwenya and Kanyemba,” Charamba said.

“The key word is development, not displacement as claimed by detractors. At the heart of this national master plan for depressed areas is community empowerment through diversified irrigated agriculture, mining and eco-tourism. Development of communication infrastructure, principally road networks, telecommunication broadcasting services is a key enabler in the matrix, as is also the intensification and upgrading of livestock in these zones which lend themselves eminently to animal husbandry.”

He said during the same visit by Chiwenga, a new water policy was unveiled at Tugwi-Mukosi Dam, which would meet water requirements of commercial agriculture in Chiredzi district.

During his visit, Chiwenga told villagers that the irrigation project was aimed at uplifting marginalised areas like Chilonga.-newsday

“Dialogue Will Safeguard Our Members From Harm”- What Nonsense?

By Nomusa Garikai- It was America’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, 2004 to 2007, Chris Dell who pointed out just how incompetent MDC leaders are and how they can be a burden, not an asset, to the nation.

In a leaked cable back to Washington, Ambassador Dell said Morgan Tsvangirai was “a flawed and indecisive character who will be an albatross round the nation’s neck if he ever got into power.” The Ambassador said similar things about the rest of the MDC leaders.

The MDC leaders’ failure to implement even one democratic reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU proved beyond doubt they were corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. They have compounded their pathetic performance during the GNU by participating in flawed and illegal elections and thus giving the vote rigging Zanu PF regime legitimacy.

What is really infuriating is the MDC leaders have known all along that by participating in the flawed elections, they will be giving credibility to the process and legitimacy to the result as David Coltart, one of the MDC leaders, has admitted in his book.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” wrote  Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

They have always offered one feeble excuse after another participating in these flawed and illegal elections in 2013 it was “failure to agree a coalition”.

Four of the main MDC factions plus three other opposition parties came together to form the MDC A and still there was no talk of boycotting the flawed elections. “MDC A has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” Nelson Chamisa announced.

Right now MDC A led by Chamisa and MDC -T led by Douglas Mwonzora are all gearing up to participate in the 2023 elections; without even one token democratic reforms in place, it goes without saying Zanu PF will rig the elections. Each MDC faction is offering its feeble excuse for participating.

Ever since the July 2018 elections, Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A friends have been threatening roll out street protests to pressure Mnangagwa to accept political dialogue leading to the formation of a new GNU. Chamisa and a number of his follow MDC A leaders were hoping to get cabinet positions.

It is now just over two years to the next elections in 2023, Chamisa has but given up all hope of another GNU and the recall of most of the MDC A senators, MPs and councillors in the last year has left MDC A weak, confused and, most significant of all, broke.

Still, Chamisa continues to call for street protest. MDC A is banking on millions of people coming out on the street to vent their anger at this Zanu PF regime that has presided over the economic meltdown. If the people do not come out and join the street protest, MDC A will be hoping they will vent their anger by coming out in the millions to vote for change and thus overwhelming Zanu PF’s vote rigging shenanigans.

Douglas Mwonzora is hoping to use his new found political muscle, many of the elected MDC A senators and MPs have since joined MDC-T to avoid recall, to push for dialogue with Mnangagwa leading to the formation of a new GNU. He and his MDC-T friends will be allocated ministerial position complete with limos, generous salaries, etc.

“If we adopt the politics of confrontation, the members who will be beaten up, tear-gassed, killed and hurt are opposition members,” argued Mwonzora.

“The market will stall and small businesses that will be affected are those of our members. The vendors who will not trade in cities are our members and big businesses will suffer, and this will affect the labour force we represent.

“But dialogue will safeguard our members from harm, death and other losses which may be caused by confrontation.”

There is no denying that Zanu PF’s response to MDC A’s mass protests will be to use brute force to end the protests. As for the coming elections, Mnangagwa will be aware the people are desperate for change, so desperate they will be going the extra mile to get change.

Zanu PF has no choice but to be prepared to go into overdrive with its blatant cheating and wanton violence as happened in the 2008 elections. The party has already called on the war veterans to mobilise and cabinet has just approved the recruitment and training of the party’s “green bombers” youth militia. The two groups played a key role in the intimidation, beating, rape and destruction of property in the 2008 wanton violence.

This time, Zanu PF will be deploying its trusted foot soldiers months ahead of the elections so they can do their dirty work and be done and dusted well ahead of the arrival of the elections observers, a month or so before voting day. Any violence with observers on the ground will be limited to the subtle reminder of the punishment that will be meted out if the party lose the election.

As for the blatant cheating Zanu PF will resist all pressure to implement the democratic reforms designed to stop the party rigging the elections. Both Nelson Chamisa and Douglas Mwonzora know this and hence the reason neither of them has dared provoke Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies to implement the reforms.

Indeed, it was the fear of provoking Zanu PF that stopped MDC leaders implementing even one reform in the five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders into power on the understanding the party will bring about the democratic changes necessary to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. It is totally unforgivable that MDC leaders have failed to bring about even one democratic change offering one feeble excuse after another for doing nothing about implementing the reforms.

Worse still, MDC leaders have participating in flawed and illegal elections giving the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. So instead of MDC leaders bringing about democratic change they are the ones helping to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship. MDC leaders are now the albatross round the nation’s neck stopping the democratic changes the nation has been dying for!

Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because the country has been stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF regime that has rigged elections to stay in power. MDC leaders have wasted many golden opportunities to implement the reforms and end the dictatorship. Implementing the reforms would have upset Zanu PF and so the MDC leaders sort the easy route of doing nothing about the reforms to appease it.

Today, with the nation in a perilous situation, with basic services such as education and health care collapsed and 50% of our people now living in abject poverty; with the nation’s very survival on line; it is imperative that we finally bite the bullet and demand democratic change over appeasement of Zanu PF thugs.

Zimbabweans must demand the implementation of the reforms following by the holding of free, fair and credible elections. If the next elections go ahead with no reforms implemented, then the plebiscite must be declared null and void. Enough of this nonsense of rigged elections and turning a blind eye to it all to appease Zanu PF!

Armed Criminals Masquerading As Soldiers, Police On The Prowl

By A Correspondent- Armed criminals masquerading as soldiers and police officers are on the prowl across the country where they are carrying out well-co-ordinated armed robberies.

In a statement yesterday, Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Alphios Makotore said the criminals brandished “search warrants” purported to bear the signature of the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Philip Valerio Sibanda.

“The Zimbabwe National Army would like to alert members of the public that a gang of armed robbers is on the prowl in Mashonaland West province,” Makotore said.

“The robbers are using the names of the ZNA and ZRP [Zimbabwe Republic Police] to dupe unsuspecting victims of their valuable property. They gain access into private premises upon production of fake search warrants.”

He added: “The fake warrants are purportedly signed by the Commander Defence Forces claiming the bearer has authority to search premises or individuals and seize any articles which may lead to acts of terrorism.

“Unsuspecting members of the public have resultantly been robbed and there have been a number of reports of such robberies through the use of such fake search warrants in Chegutu, Kadoma, Chinhoyi, Christon Bank and Mazowe.”

National Youth Service Re-establishment: Mnangagwa Laying Ground For Violence In 2023 Elections

Mpilo Resumes Radiotherapy Services

Mpilo hospital

By A Correspondent- Mpilo Central Hospital has resumed radiotherapy services following the Government’s intervention which resulted in the deployment of a physicist.

The machines broke down on 15 August last year and were fixed last month but could not be run as the hospital had no physicist.

As a result, cancer patients from the Southern region had to travel to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare, the only other hospital that offers cancer treatment in the country.

Mpilo acting chief executive Solwayo Ngwenya expressed gratitude to the Government for ensuring that the service resumes.

He said:

We are very happy that the machines have finally been fixed and we have a physicist who was seconded by the Ministry of Health and Child Care to help administer the treatment.

We are particularly grateful that all the work which has been done so far was facilitated by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga during his last visit.

Head of the radiotherapy department Dr Tatenda Chingonzoh revealed that about 120 patients had been on the waiting list last year when the machine broke down.

Said Chingonzoh:

We are happy that finally, we will resume offering radiotherapy at Mpilo although we are in need of a physicist.

The one we have is temporary and then the day he goes we will be forced to suspend the services as this type of treatment needs highly qualified personnel.

MDC Alliance Councillors Snubbed

By A Correspondent- Opposition MDC Alliance and MDCT councillors in Beitbridge have raised concern over their exclusion from government programmes, especially when Cabinet ministers are visiting the border town.

The opposition councillors were not included on a scheduled tour of the border town by National Housing minister Daniel Garwe and Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs minister Abednico Ncube on Friday to access civil servants’ living conditions

“Why should they politicise a government programme? Excluding the Beitbridge mayor and his team in events happening in the areas of their jurisdiction is a clear sign of politicising government programmes,” ward 3 councillor Takavingei Mahachi said.

“This project is being implemented within the Municipality of Beitbridge and the mayor should be recognised. Government programmes should not be politicised.

“This system of politicising everything has killed our country. Whoever drafted this programme must stop it.”

Recalled ward 4 councillor Granger Nyoni said it was likely that government wanted another huge piece of land in Beitbridge before finishing the construction of the flats and houses which it started in 2006.

Garwe and Ncube are expected to tour an area set aside for development of 400 housing units for civil servants in the border town.

A medical doctor dispatched to the border town recently lives in a COVID-19 quarantine area, while another one lives in a sub-standard rented house.

Dozens of nurses share rooms in old, poorly-ventilated nurses’ homes, while others live in side wards at their workplace.

One junior civil servant owns two houses while a regional magistrate, two provincial magistrates, an area prosecutor and several policemen and prison officials do not have accommodation.

Garwe and Ncube’s visit to Beitbridge is also expected to speed up the completion of six metres of a sewer line that has stalled the allocation of 26 civil servants’ houses that have been lying idle for the past 10 years.-Newsday

Man Nabbed For The Murder Of A Byo Newspaper Vendor

By A Correspondent- Police in Bulawayo have arrested the man behind the murder of a city newspaper vendor last week. Jongumuzi Lobati (age not given) of Woodville assaulted the now deceased Farai Mazhindu of Luveve suburb with fists after a misunderstanding along Matshona Road in Old Luveve.

The deceased fell headlong on the tarred road and died on the spot.

To conceal the vice, Lobati dragged the deceased’s body to a nearby bush and fled from the scene. The body of the late Mazhindu, popularly known as Dread or Rasta, was later discovered the following day at a nearby bush along Matshona road with a swollen head and bruises on the left side of its forehead.

On the day the accused was arrested, he was found dressed in blood-stained clothes which linked him to the alleged heinous act.

Lobati has made positive indications at the crime scene with detectives from CID Homicide (Bulawayo). He pleaded guilty to one count of murder before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Rachel Mukanga who remanded him in custody to April 27.

Prosecuting, Mr Terence Chakabuda said on April 6 at around 11PM along Matshona Road in Old Luveve, Lobati and the deceased had a misunderstanding after a beer drink.

“On April 7 the now deceased’s body was found at a nearby bush along Matshona road in Old Luveve with a swollen head and bruises on the left side of its forehead. Three days later, Lobati was arrested and stated that he had severely assaulted Mazhindu with clenched fists and he fell down with his head and died on the spot. He dragged the body of the deceased and hid it in a nearby bush before fleeing from the scene,” said Mr Chakabuda.

There are four key State witnesses who saw Lobati and the deceased having a heated argument at the crime scene. The late newspaper vendor used to operate at corner 6th Avenue and Robert Mugabe.-statemedia

“The Return Of Green Bombers”

By Leonard Koni- The re-introduction of the National Youth Service Training Border Gezi popularly known as The Green Bombers has sent chilling feelings amongst most Zimbabweans who have experienced the brutality of this militia group in 2008.

This is a sign of government failure to create employment for the youths in the country. Zimbabwe is now gearing itself into a fully fledged military country.

There is bad news again. We know that elections are around the corner and the innocent youths want to be used to beat up and threaten people. The programme is not well cooked and these youths want to be dragged to do dirty work for selfish maggots.

Was it really the idea of Kirsty Coventry to re-introduce this militia group which unleashed terror during the 2008 elections under the late Robert Gabriel Mugabe or she is being used as a shield by Zanu PF political big wigs?

If the government is very serious about this programme , then we must first see Zanu PF leaders sending their children at Border Gezi Training School just like the way they are getting these corona vaccines jabs.

The government of Zimbabwe does not have the capacity to run such a national programme when it is still struggling to run some of these programmes to do with development.

At such times like this, such useless programmes must be shelved. They have a history of causing divisions and harm in the past. So what is the difference between the old dispensation of Mugabe?

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government is running of of ideas and is just copying and pasting Mugabe’s toxic policies and there is nothing new being introduced to the country.

While a lot of countries have successfully run those programmes, Zimbabwe has a record of bastardising the concept by producing brainwashed desperate poor youths who cannot put food on the table because they are jobless and end up joining such programmes just to get a meal to survive.

This program was responsible for thousands of deaths and violent acts on members of he opposition.

Indoctrinating and weaponising the youths will not solve the current economic challenges being faced by the country.

Sanctions For Kirsty Coventry for Reintroducing Terror Group, Border Gezi

By Farai D Hove | A Harare Councilor has a written advising that the Minister Of Youth, Sport And Recreation, Kirsty Coventry must be put on sanctions to discourage or stop her from introducing the terror group, famously known as Border Gezi.

The Border Gezi formation, disguised under National Youth Service, has for over 20-years been responsible for mass torture and summary killings since the year 2001.

Said Councilor Ngadziore:
