By A Correspondent- A Bulawayo businessman was left clutching his empty bank card after an unknown person withdrew more than $200 000 from his bank account.
Puluko Moyo, who runs a thriving farm in Matabeleland South and supplies meat to local retail shops, told B- Metro that he got the shock of his life after a till operator at a local supermarket told him that there was no money in his bank account.
“Last week on Friday I intended to buy groceries at a big chain supermarket but I got shocked after a till operator told me that there were no funds in the bank account. It was a shocker because there was more than $280 000 in the bank account,” he said.
Moyo said what shocked him more was that he had not shared his pin number with anyone.
“I’m the only one who uses the card and no one knows my pin number, even my wife does not know it. After that I had to report the matter at Bulawayo Central Police Station, but until now they have not yet apprehended the person who withdrew my money,” said the dejected Moyo.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
“We are investigating a case of fraud where a local businessman discovered that an unknown person had withdrawn $280 000 from his bank account. Members of the public are urged to swiftly report to a bank any anomaly to their bank card or when they discover that someone has tampered with their bank account or when they have lost a pin number,” he said.
Moyo said he reported the matter to his bank.
“The bank manager checked the bank statement and confirmed that my money was withdrawn from the bank account. We then checked the CCTV and it showed a man who was wearing a worksuit and big hat which partially obscured his face buying goods. The man tried by all means to avoid the camera as such we could not recognise his face,” he said.
He said he has since had his card blocked.-statemedia
Dear Editor
It is so disturbing to note how Church leaders are going into overdrive canvassing against the Covid 19 pandemic vaccine. May i take this time to share my thinking with regards to this matter. In the times past there has been vaccinations against different types of diseases and people have been saved form the deadly ravaging effects of these diseases. Coming closer home one way or another majority of people in Zimbabwe were vaccinated against polio at birth. If vaccines are a mark of the beast 666 as some men and women of the cloth are putting it why is it that the same men and women of the cloth are still worshipping God instead of the devil of they received the vaccine then?
Arguments based on little knowledge and lack of research are a danger to the citizens of a country. It would be very helpful if the men of the cloth keep their lane and allow medical researchers and specialists to do their work. Mankind can be spared if those at the helm of church organizations can appreciate medical science instead of demonizing it.
The same church leaders are not offering and alternative to the vaccine yet they are lambasting the vaccine and some Church leaders have suddenly become experts on virus study and micro biology when they can hardly define a cell later on label it. The issue of micro chip being inserted as a vaccine should be dismissed as a near credible hypothesis based on man’s figment of imagination and does not stand the scrutiny of serious common sense.
All of a sudden there are all these teachings concerning certain figures who are taken as agents of darkness. The print and electronic media is awash with theories and theories of why vaccines are a way the devil wants to destroy Africans. Church leaders need to recallibrate themselves and upgrade their skills and update their knowledge so that they don’t misrepresent God in the name of mysteries.
There is need to understand why the vaccine containers are labelled ‘for Africa only’. Check with medical personnel why this is do. You will be surprised as to why this is so and this may help. Understanding the times we are living in is very critical.Yes these are the last days according to the Holy Book. I am not sure of a vaccine can change and solidify upon injection into a human body. We need to understand the fact that we are in an emergency and people are dying for real and it’s not drama or some Nollywood movie.
There is no time for bickering and trying to explain what we are not competent to comment on. The house is on fire lives must be saved. The vaccine is the EU to go. Just a few years ago some Church leaders stopped people from taking HIV medication because it was a sign of lack of faith. People died from something that could have been avoided. What we are about to witness is similar to such occurrences. May I exhort some Church leaders especially those against vaccinations to do a thorough study of eschatology.
They may be surprised to realize that the mark of the beast that they are pushing as if it is happening now is actually in the future. We are in 2021. There is an explosion of information. One needs to be careful concerning what they take in as information. There is a lot of propaganda being churned and one has to judge and throw away certain do called expert information.
The issue at hand does not require a pedestrian approach but rather robust engagement to reach at meaningful and useful conclusions. Those who have great faith can exercise their faith against the pandemic without discouraging those who would like to take the vaccine. Small pox was exterminated via a vaccine. Do the same can happen to the covid 19 pandemic.Fellow church leaders I encourage you to pray hard and demonstrate healing power of God over covid 19 pandemic. Unless this is done vaccine is the way to go. In the meantime let’s sanitize, maintain social distance and mask up as we continue trusting that the Almighty will curtail the pandemic.

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa Thursday said Zimbabwe is now ready for a Covid-19 vaccine roll out which will be introduced soon and for free to all citizens.
Speaking during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) held at the State House in a State of the Nation Address this afternoon Mnangagwa said:
Our overall national response strategy has reached a stage where we can now introduce vaccines as a second front preventive measure. As such, covid-19 vaccines which have been scientifically ascertained to be safe, will soon be introduced. These will be state-funded and free. The national vaccination strategy will continue to be guided by the best available scientific evidence and the safety of Zimbabweans remains a priority.
He also said frontline workers, the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions are among the people who will be prioritised.
The president speaks when Zimbabwe has registered over 33 000 infections and more than 1 200 deaths since March last year.

By Patrick Guramatunhu- I once watched a documentary on meerkats. A family group came across an ostrich egg.
A meerkat will easily crack the shell of most eggs but so with the ostrich egg. Meerkats get most of their food by digging and so one after another they moved the egg back and forth by digging round it or pushed it in the frantic effort to bite it. After a while the meerkats gave up and moved on.
It is most disconcerting when human beings start behaving worse that meerkats!
“Given conditions in Zimbabwe, dialogue is the only sensible way forward, but both MDC factions need to be involved and the dialogue needs to be transparent and even-handed,” argue Professor Stephen Chan of University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies.
“Having said that, formal talks might well be beneficially preceded by an informal meeting between the ‘Big Three’ – Mnangagwa, Chamisa and Mwonzora – something like a Kariba Houseboat meeting of the sort once brokered by South Africa.
This is a foolish idea because the proposal has failed to acknowledge the reality that these Zanu PF and MDC leaders are the ones who not only landed the nation into this mess but, worse still, are the ones who created the mess. They are the problem; how then can they be the solution too!
The root cause of Zimbabwe’s crisis is the country’s failure to hold free, fair and credible elections. Guess who has been rigging elections all these last 40 years – Zanu PF leaders.
The nation had its golden opportunity to implement democratic reforms designed to end the vote rigging during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Guess who wasted the opportunity and failed to implement even one token reform in five years – MDC leaders.
Professor Chan and his fellow political meerkats’ insistence in allocating the key political roles to Zanu PF and MDC leaders is not only unworkable but must must be dismissed with contempt because it seeks to perpetuate the lie that both these parties are legitimate.
Zanu PF blatantly rigged the 2018 elections. ZEC failure to produce some thing as basic a verified voters’ roll, for Pete’s sake!
MDC leaders had no business participating in the 2018 elections knowing fully well Zanu PF was rigging the plebiscite. They participated because Zanu PF was giving away a few gravy train seats, bait they found irresistible. By participating the elections MDC gave credibility to the process and legitimacy to the result.
So, “the big three” are being allocated the principle political roles because they either blatantly rigged the elections or sold-out of the fight for reforms and free, fair and credible elections!
The real meerkats had the common sense to walk away from the ostrich egg when they realised they did not have the right tools or intelligence to crack the egg. After 40 years of corruption, breath-taking incompetence and murderous tyranny by Zanu PF thugs and their MDC acolytes, the political “meerkats” are more determined than ever to impose the same leaders as the answer to our problems. Of course, the political meerkats are insane!
It is not enough to call for free, fair and credible elections, we must demonstrate our commitment to the same by condemning those who rig elections and stop the folly of rewarding them with absolute power.
After 40 years of appeasing Zanu PF by giving in to all the thugs’ demands; the thugs demanded a foot, took yard and were back to demand even more. Zanu PF misrule has dragged us deeper and deeper into the abyss we now find ourselves stuck in. We are not going to get out by appeasing Zanu PF!
Zanu PF and their MDC vote rigging conspiratorial partners are illegitimate and must step down to allow the nation to appoint a competent and independent body that will, at long last, implement the democratic reform. Zanu PF has held this nation to ransom for 40 years and counting; this must not be allowed to continue. Enough is enough!
By Wilbert Mukori- “If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull!” said W C Fields.
This Zanu PF government has mastered the art of baffling with bull to the t!
“Health and Child Care Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro yesterday dispelled assertions from some quarters that Government was understating the number of deaths from the deadly pandemic. He said such reports were false, mischievous and a clear attempt to cause alarm and despondency in the country,” reported The Herald.
“Government has got representation all over the country. Our health system is well organised from the minister, it goes to the deputy minister, permanent secretary and each town has got a representative and each province has a representative called a provincial medical director,” said the Deputy Minister.
“Our systems are so well organised, well-oiled such that we collect data easily. We get accurate figures and information every time we need it.”
The official corona virus cases and deaths are only of those who would have been tested for the virus and the result was positive. And so one can keep the figures down by reducing the number of corona virus tests carried out!
In December 2020, at the onset of the current corona virus wave, SA (whose corona virus cases will be similar to ours given the heavy human traffic, legal and illegal, across our common border) was carrying out over 44 000 test per day. Zimbabwe, with 1/4 SA’s population, should have ramped up its tests to 11 000 per day but only doing 1 500 tests, 10%, on a really busy day! Well one easy way.
Dadaya High School had corona virus cases and the powers that be send out 47 test kits when everyone of 1 000 students and staff could have been infected and therefore should have been tested. The school closed and every one was went back to their homes without ever being tested.
The consequence of failing to test, trace and track is that infected individuals who, if tested and found to have the virus would be put into isolation, are allowed to mix with the rest, freely. And thus, they would, unknowingly, spread the virus far and wide.
The World Health Organisation recommended that all those showing corona virus symptoms must be tested of the virus; that is common sense. The question the Deputy Minister of Health should have answered is why has Zimbabwe with it’s “well organised and well-oiled” system failed to test even those clear cut cases common sense would dictate must be tested?
Instead of answering the pertinent question the Deputy Minister of Health is now trying to bamboozle the nation with details of the data collecting chain of command. If tests were not being carried out then there is no data to be collected and so the efficiency or otherwise of the latter is of no consequence!
There is no doubt that Zimbabwe’s REAL corona virus cases and deaths are far higher than the official figures and it is the real figures that affect real people.
Zimbabwe was in a serious economic and political mess before the corona virus outbreak after 40 years of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and rank lawless under this Zanu PF dictatorship. And so with its economy in total meltdown and its health care services in shambles everyone knew the country was going to be hit very hard by the corona virus.
Now, it turns out, Zanu PF’s obsession with hiding facts to hide the regime’s blundering incompetence has turned the corona virus tragedy into a catastrophe of Biblical proportion!
Whilst few nations, if any have been spared corona virus’s devastating economic, health and death blows; there is no denying (Zanu PF’s pathetic attempts to understate the effects must be dismissed with the contempt they deserve) Zimbabwe has been crashed! All because the country has a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical government and 40 years of misrule has left the nation economical and political weak and feeble!
If anything positive can ever be said to come out of the tragic human suffering and deaths brought on by corona virus; then it must be that the pandemic focused Zimbabweans to finally address the nation’s number one problem of bad governance.

Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic has denied the reports suggesting that there was a rift with his players at CHAN.
The rumours emerged after the national team was knocked from the tournament. It was reported that the duo of Wellington Taderera and Denver Mukambo were not happy for not being considered for action ahead of the match against the Burkina Faso and they confronted the coach.
However, in an interview with the Herald, the coach said he never had a bust-up with any of his players, including the pair.
“There wasn’t any case, nor any incident like that, in the team. I am actually surprised,” said Logarusic.

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala has boldly declared that he will not surrender until the people of Zimbabwe are free from oppression.
Hon Sikhala has also revealed how Emmerson Mnangagwa’s agents are tormenting his family.
Below is Hon Sikhala’s full statement.
By Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala
MP for Zengeza West.
I received intelligence early morning on Friday the 8th of January 2021, that the regime of Emmerson Mnangagwa was planning to arrest me.
As I always know the information to reliable, I informed the world about the impending arrest. I informed my brother and friend Hopewell Chin’ono about the information and he said he will stand with me throughout. Unbeknown to me was that Hopewell was also the target for arrest on same charges. As I finished talking to him and when I was busy informing other friendly corners, the news broke out that Hopewell’s house has been raided and they have pounced on him.
I tried to inquire about the motive of the arrest and the explanation was not satisfactory. It was alleged that I posted some comments over the alleged bashing of a child to death by police on Facebook and failed to locate the day and time. It really sounded bizarre as I did not remember the issue.
I had to work a plan with friends and colleagues to avoid the usual excuses of arresting us and deny bail on the grounds of flight risk that I become part of Hopewell Chin’ono’s legal team on the day of his Court appearance. Before that, Hopewell communicated to me that he has seen my warned and cautioned statement already with the police and there were really after me. I went to the Law and Order Section at Harare Police Station and asked the Officer In Charge, Law and Order, whether they want me for whatever allegations they would want to press against me. The Officer in Charge said, “they have got no such intention.”
Hopewell was appearing in Court for his initial remand and I was part of the legal Team put in place, to represent him. I appeared for the initial hearing, only to be nabbed by the same members of the Law and Order as I was about to leave the Court.
This was the beginning of a long stay in prison from Saturday the 9th of January 2021 to the 2nd of February 2021. For 26 days I was for the first time detained in solitary confinement in Section FB2 at Chikurubi Maximum Prison. This is the section where people condemned to death sentence are housed. Hopewell Chin’ono was in his own solitary confinement in the same section. His solitary prison cell was facing directly the gallows. Whatever the motive was, is only known to the persecutors.
We were both denied bail at the Magistrates’ Court. My grounds for being denied bail was that I have the propensity to commit further offenses as I “boasted that I was arrested 65 times in 2020, and have the propensity to re-offend”. This averments by the Magistrate was manufactured evidence as nothing of that sort was either submitted in Court by either the State or the Defense. It was purely manufactured evidence and facts that the Magistrate came up with and acted upon to deny me my liberty. I am going to raise a strong protestation of this with my legal practitioners, the Law Society and the Judiciary Service Commission as no such evidence was ever led in Court by either the State or the defense. I have gone through the record of proceedings at the Magistrates Court several times to look for the the elusive declaration of 65 arrests in 2020 and failed to find this needle in the haystack.
For 26 days I was denied my liberty on the basis of the manufactured evidence by the Magistrate. Such evidence was never ever put before him. It remains bizzare where it was extracted from. I would not have issues with being denied bail based on evidence and facts presented before the Court, no matter how untrue they may, and a judicial official uphelds them. To be denied one’s liberty based on manufactured evidence and facts is unprecedented. The evidence that I boasted of 65 arrests in 2020 are not true. I am still wondering where this came from. Throughout the proceedings at the Magistrates Court, nothing of that sort was addiduced in Court by either parties as evidence and facts to be determined upon by the Magistrate.
Although Justice Chitapi touched on it at length dismissing the findings of the Magistrate over such averments, he was commenting on it based on the Judgement of the Magistrate. The integrity of our judiciary is of utmost importance so as not to undermine the administration of justice and the confidence upon it by the public. Manufacturing of evidence and facts and act upon it to deny an individual’s liberty undermines the administration of justice.
Dear colleagues, I would like to thank my Legal Team of Harrison Nkomo, Jeremiah Bamu and Paidamoyo Saurombe for the sterling job they did seeking my liberty. The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) remains the beacon for justice and defending human rights. I don’t have words with which to thank my sister Rose. Heal Zimbabwe Trust, you stood with me and my family throughout my unjustified incarceration. Tree of Life, you came with your hand, so great that I don’t have word with which to thank you.
Crisis Coalition (Zimbabwe), you stood firm against persecution. Amnesty International, you heighetend our persecution to the world. A million thanks.
Individuals who spoke endlessly against our incarceration, we thank you. My brothers Brian Kagoro, Trevor Ncube, Siphosami Malunga, Mbuya Dotito, Lynn and all the people of Zimbabwe who stood with me. May God do great to you. I know my wife and children are in pain. I had 3 children sitting for their Exams at different boarding schools. I didn’t want them to know that I was arrested. I am disappointed that my daughter phoned me today that she was crying throughout on her way to the Exams after being told about my arrest by her teachers.
She is a genius at school. I hope this episode did not affect her. I know how much traumatised my family go through during these trying times but they must know that it is the will of God for me to be put through such trials and tribulations.
The people of Zimbabwe, you remain my source of inspiration. You never betrayed me. You stood with me throughout. To Hopewell who was housed right on the face of the gallows, remain strong and unwavering.
Dearly I will never surrender until freedom is achieved for all our people. Zimbabwe is too precious to be owned by a few clinch of the greedy. The future of millions has been ruined. The youth, your future is bleak. There is no hope. We the middle aged started this in our youth stages. We are doing it for you and future generations.
Our dear Lord is with us the people of Zimbabwe.
I thank you all.
Be blessed.
Tinashe Sambiri|The struggle for freedom is unstoppable, MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala has said.
Hon Sikhala was granted ZWL $ 25 000 bail on Monday.
According to Hon Sikhala, the persecution of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s critics is not the solution to the deepening economic crisis.
The resilient MDC Alliance official denounced the calculated harassment of perceived government opponents.
“Hello Zimbabwe Flag of Zimbabwe my love. Chikurubi hardens the warriors. Fix the rot. Persecution of critics is not a solution.
The business of arresting opponents on non- existent laws should come to an end. We demand our freedom,” Hon Sikhala wrote on Twitter.
From Yohei Sasakawa, WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination
Over the past year, the headlines have been dominated by COVID-19. It is easy to overlook other diseases, especially a disease such as leprosy that many people think is a disease of the past.
But leprosy requires our attention. There are still some 200,000 new cases diagnosed worldwide each year. Millions of people are living with some form of disability as a result of leprosy.
Both the label “leprosy” and the disability that can result if this age-old disease goes untreated can lead to social exclusion. Persons affected by leprosy continue to face discrimination, reinforced in some countries by outdated laws that make leprosy grounds for divorce, prevent people with the disease from participating in public life or place other restrictions on their activities.
As WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination, I have seen for myself how leprosy has marginalized individuals. Women and children are particularly vulnerable to the social and economic consequences of the disease.
Overcoming leprosy involves more than early diagnosis and prompt treatment. It also requires changing mindsets so that leprosy is no longer a source of shame or prejudice. We must remove all barriers in the way of those seeking medical care. We must eliminate the obstacles that prevent affected individuals and their families from living in dignity and enjoying all their basic human rights as full members of society.
I often talk about leprosy in terms of a motorcycle. The front wheel represents curing the disease and the rear wheel symbolizes ending discrimination. Only when both wheels are turning at the same time will we make progress toward our destination of a leprosy-free world.
As I survey the road ahead, I am confident we are moving in the right direction: the WHO’s Global Leprosy Strategy for 2021-2030 will generate renewed momentum; organizations of persons affected by leprosy are becoming more influential, and their calls for change more powerful; and the UN Special Rapporteur on leprosy is working tirelessly to see that principles and guidelines on the elimination of discrimination against persons affected by leprosy and their family members are fully implemented.
I believe we will achieve a world without leprosy one day. But along the way, we need to realize an inclusive society in which everyone has access to quality treatment and services, and a diagnosis of leprosy no longer comes with a possibility of devastating physical, social, economic or psychological consequences.
Compared to other diseases, leprosy may only affect a small number of people, but we are all responsible for building an inclusive world.

Chin’ono who was responding to remarks by British Minister for Africa James Duddridge who said international investors are reluctant to come to Zimbabwe due to arbitrary property rights and currency volatility.
“UK investors repeatedly tell us that three key things prevent them from investing in Zimbabwe: concerns about the poorly managed currency; concerns about arbitrary property rights and concerns about the legal system,” Duddridge said.
Chin’ono demanded his camera back saying his issue is now international
“I REPEAT, as long as my professional camera is not returned by @PoliceZimbabwe together with my other journalism equipment, Mnangagwa’s regime must kiss good bye to talking about Property Rights. My issue as Professor @steve_hanke said yesterday is now INTERNATIONAL,” said Chin’ono.

By A Correspondent| Following government’s climbdown from an earlier pronouncement that some people will pay for the vaccine, Zimbabweans have demanded answers on the rollout plan for vaccines procured using tax-payers money.
Fiery journalist Hopewell Chin’ono said Professor Ncube had not clarified anything demanding a government position on how vaccines procured using taxpayers’ money will be rolled out.
“Finance Minister @MthuliNcube has NOT clarified anything! This statement says Vaccines procured through donors will be freely available! That is not THE issue! The REAL issue is WHY should Vaccines bought by TAX money be sold. He is silent on that point in this statement,” Chin’ono said.
Political commentator, Dr Pedzisai Ruhanya reinforced Chin’ono’s question saying the issue was not about donated vaccines but those procured by the central government.
“Dear @MthuliNcube read these two. You are lying even more. If not, please state what gov will do when it purchases the COVID-19 vaccines,” said Ruhanya.
Kudzai Mutisi questioned government’s poor communication saying they should allow experts to do it rather always fire-fighting.
“When??? The government is too slow… Zero sense of urgency… Poor communication… If you can’t do it, leave it to those who can act… The non-existent experts will take a whole year to decide on a suitable vaccine… You can’t be a government that’s always trailing others, that’s crap,” Mutisi questioned.

To: H.E President Lieutenant General Dr SKI Khama.
I received intelligence early morning on Friday the 8th of January 2021, that the regime of Emmerson Mnangagwa was planning to arrest me. As I always know the information to be reliable, I informed the world about the impending arrest.
Be blessed.

By A Correspondent- A kombi driver who allegedly killed his girlfriend is said to have committed suicide near Esigodini Tollgate, just a few kilometres from his Mlomolihotho rural home in Mawabeni.
Melinkosi Moyo from Lobengula suburb, Bulawayo allegedly stabbed Prudence Ndlovu (24) to death in Nkulumane suburb on Sunday morning.
Moyo had been on the run since committing the crime.
His body was found on Tuesday near Esigodini Tollgate and police informed his family about his death yesterday morning.
A news crew visited Moyo’s New Lobengula residence yesterday and his relatives confirmed that they had been informed that he had hanged himself from a tree.
His sister, Ms Sizoluhle Moyo said the incident has left the family shattered as they do not know where to turn to for answers.
Ms Moyo said other family members had gone to identify her brother’s body.
She said her uncles last communicated with Moyo at about 2AM on Sunday while she last spoke to him at around 12AM and at no point did he reveal that he had committed a crime.
“What I know is that he was accusing Prudence of cheating on him. He constantly called me at about 11PM, revealing that he had found her hiding place in Nkulumane. He said I should call umakoti wethu (our daughter-in-law) although they were still boyfriend and girlfriend but she was not answering her phone. He called her and then phoned me back telling me to call her. That is when she answered the phone saying when Meli does not understand something he becomes harsh. She didn’t even tell me that they were fighting,” said Ms Moyo.
“This has left us with more questions than answers because we don’t know him as a violent person. So, we want to know how he ended up being in Nkulumane where the crime was committed. He had big plans for his life so we really don’t know why he would do such a thing. He had acquired a class one driver’s licence and was set to relocate to South Africa before lockdown was imposed. So, we also would want to engage Prudence’s family maybe they know better what really transpired because at no point did we hear that they were having relationship problems. We last saw her three days before she was killed.”
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube could not immediately confirm that Moyo’s body had been recovered.
“What we know so far is that there is a body that was found in Esigodini but before the family identifies it as his we cannot confirm that it’s his,” said Insp Ncube.
A fellow tenant at Moyo’s Lobengula West residence said he arrived home at 2AM Sunday and borrowed R200 from her.
She said he told her that Ndlovu would bring the money in the morning. “I didn’t know him that much. I just knew that he was a driver always moving in cars. But on Sunday he arrived at about 2AM, took a bath and borrowed R200 which he said his girlfriend would bring later.
“He was so calm and we didn’t suspect anything until armed police knocked at our doors at about 5AM looking for him. That is when we learnt that he had killed someone and we did not find any blood stains anywhere,” said the tenant who preferred not to be named.-statemedia

ZUPCO hiked their fares last month and commuters are now paying between ZWL $30 and $60 on urban routes.
This means the bus company is effectively charging commuters who use the omnibuses $22 more than the stipulated fare if they use the RBZ exchange rate of $1 being equal to $82.

By Farai D Hove | There was chaos at AFM Dzivarasekwa, Harare where residents confronted a funeral company they allege was washing its hearse at a borehole that serves drinking water for the community.
In a brief statement to ZimEye, the company’s administrator said their workers were assaulted when they were caught at the borehole which is at AFM Dzivarasekwa, Harare.
The company is based in Samora Machel Avenue and the large Kombi may at the time have been coming from one of its funerals.
The administrator said they had to engage the police after their Kombi was attacked.

By A Correspondent- A Bulawayo woman bolted out of a hotel room midday last week on Friday with only a body towel covering her decency as she went around town trying to locate the nearest police station.
She ended up at the Bulawayo Central Police Station, but failed to tell the police what she was running from.
“A woman who seemed mentally-challenged stormed Bulawayo Central Police Station naked. The police could not open a docket because she did not reveal to them what had happened.
She was just hallucinating and they (police) could not do anything before she was given some clothes to put on and went away,” said Bulawayo provincial police Inspector Precious Simango.
Sources at the hotel told B-Metro that she arrived with a man believed to be a disc jockey based in Botswana all lovey dovey carrying shopping bags with new clothes.
“For the record she’s a pretty woman. She came with a guy who had booked here and they were in good spirits coming from shopping for new clothes.
The man even left $2 000 by the reception for safe keeping but I think he was just showing off because there are safes in the rooms,” said the source.
The couple that had seemingly drawn the attention of people by the foyer went upstairs and were not expected down anytime soon.
“They were even touching each other joyfully as they went to their room. I could tell something was going to happen upstairs, although not what came to be,” added the source.
In about half an hour, people going about their business, mostly lunch were shocked by screams of a woman and even more surprised by the character who was barefooted wrapped in a hotel towel.
She dribbled past hotel potters who tried to calm her down. Then came hotel security to lock her down and avoid the public spectacle, but she side-stepped two security officers and pushed the third who lost balance as she went for the home run.
“She only stopped at the intersection to give way to cars but she had left them (security) behind. She was confused on what route to take and one security guard caught up. In public he couldn’t do anything but ask questions,” said a taxi driver outside the hotel.
The security guard was to escort her to the police station.
“The police called us to the station and that’s when she got her clothes and we got our towel,” said a hotel staffer.
The man at the centre of the drama was probed by the hotel security about what transpired in the room.
“He said the woman went to bath because they were about to have some quality time and as she came out of the bathroom she looked at the guy and from nowhere, started screaming. No one really knows what happened and worse the man was not giving in much.
He was not reported for any crime. I guess whatever the woman saw is bigger than crime,” said the hotel source.

By A Correspondent- A police officer had no choice, but to escape through a window when his colleague, who was baying for his blood for poisoning his puppy, took an axe and hacked his doors in an effort to gain entry into his bedroom.
A source said Constable Wellington Munemo and his colleague only identified as Constable Sibanda live in the same house in Njube suburb.
Constable Sibanda got wind that Constable Munemo had poisoned his puppy resulting in its death. An angry Sibanda armed himself with an axe and headed to Munemo’s room.
“He dashed to Munemo’s room, upon getting there he knocked at the door, but he couldn’t get any response. After that he called out Munemo’s wife but still there was no response ,”said the source.
Seeing that he was not getting any response Sibanda axed the kitchen door and gained entry into the house. While wielding his axe and baying for his colleague’s blood he tried to open the bedroom door but it was locked. He axed it.
“Seeing that his colleague was in a no-nonsense mood and could kill him, Munemo was left with no option but to escape through the bedroom window and sprinted to Western Commonage Police Station where he reported the matter,” said the source.
Sibanda is expected to appear at Western Commonage courts for malicious damage to property.

By A Correspondent- Aleck Mkandla (32), Devine Zungeni (23), Muzingaye Moyo (34) and Derby Zungeni all from the same area were arrested on Saturday.
Bulawayo police provincial spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube commended members of the public for helping police apprehend law breakers.
“On January 29 at around 9AM police received a tip off that Mkandla was in possession of stolen property at his place of residence. Police swiftly reacted to the information and proceeded to his house and they found him around and conducted a search,” said Insp Ncube.
“Police recovered two plasma television sets, a radio, a DVD player and six speakers. He confessed to stealing from a neighbour.”
Insp Ncube said Mkandla was arrested and was taken to the police station where the complainant managed to identify all the stolen property. She also told police that she had made a report about the unlawful entry and theft of the recovered goods.
“The police interviewed Mkandla who implicated his three friends leading to their arrest. Police also recovered a car battery, two television sets, solar panels, car radio and an amplifier from the other men. We are grateful to members of the public for helping us recover stolen property and we are still working hard to find the fifth as it emerges these crimes were committed by five men,” added Insp Ncube.
He also said members of the public should not tire working with the police to fight crime as their tip offs were helping them to apprehend criminals. Insp Ncube recently said while break-in and theft cases were being reported across Bulawayo, cases were more prevalent in five suburbs.
“We are concerned with cases of unlawful entry and theft that are occurring in and around Bulawayo Province. Cases are happening in suburbs such as Cowdray Park, Magwegwe North, Pumula, Nkulumane, Emganwini and Makokoba. Even the eastern suburbs are not spared. The criminals are targeting cash and electrical gadgets but we have recorded some unfortunate and even worrying incidents where some cases are leading to rape,” said Insp Ncube.

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube has told state-controlled media that some Zimbabweans will be required to pay for Covid-19 vaccination.
His remarks come as the Southern African country is expecting to take delivery of its first batch of COVID-19 vaccines from the People’s Republic of China.
He said:
Look, private citizens obviously would have to pay for the vaccines.Mthuli Ncube added that the payment is meant to enable the government to “recoup” costs of procurement.
Ncube said “some groups” would be vaccinated for free.
However, he did not specify the groups. Recently, Ncube and George Guvamatanga, the permanent secretary in the Ministry he leads, announced that the country had mobilised about US$100 million for the purposes of procuring COVID-19 vaccine.
This is happening when the country is experiencing a coronavirus resurgence which has seen new cases and deaths rising at an aggressive speed.
Some members of the public are already complaining about the cost of getting tested for COVID-19 with some saying the procedure should be for free since the World Health Health Organisation and other stakeholders, donated testing kits to Zimbabwe.
Some say Ncube must define “private citizens” in relation to the laws of the land and also tell the “role of the government in times like these.”

ZANU PF has castigated unscrupulous businesses that have unjustifiably hiked prices at a time when the general populace is grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic which has forced Government to impose a national lockdown level four to curb its spread.
The governing party’s spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said in a statement yesterday that businesses should have a heart particularly at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic has seen lives being lost while livelihoods have been disrupted.
To curb the spread of the Covid19 which spiked in January, the Government imposed a lockdown until February 15.
However, some business, despite the currency stability and a waiver on essential services to continue doing business notwithstanding the lockdown have been hiking prices.
“The revolutionary Zanu PF party is concerned by the recent spike in the cost of goods and services, particularly basic commodities. Such a development has no grounding in basic economics. It is merely a manifestation of greed in some of our business entities.
“Surely, this practice weighs heavily on the poor and must be nipped in the bud. Certainly, the ordinary citizen needs protection. With Covid-19 pandemic ravaging the country, empathy should be at play in our daily relations.
“The deadly pandemic has not spared our economy hence the need to take care of each other,” said Moyo.
He said the country, just like the world at large is in danger of the Covid-19 pandemic which has claimed more than 1 000 people locally adding that such tragedies can only be confronted by empathy and adhering to measures that minimise the spread of the vicious pandemic such as social distancing, wearing face masks and staying at home.
“The WHO protocols relevant to this virus and Ministry of Health and Child Care regulations must be observed religiously. We are indeed all endangered species. Times are hard, very hard. There is therefore no need for unscrupulous and speculative behaviour which has led to this situation, soaring of prices.
“The party is therefore appealing to the business community to conduct their business ethically. Love thy neighbour. Together we shall fulfil the ideals of Vision 2030 as often spelt out by His Excellency the President, Cde ED Mnangagwa,” said Moyo.
Even under the scourge of Covid-19 and its effects on the economy, Zimbabwe is vigorously pursuing Vision 2030 to become an upper middle class economy by 2030, a vision that is unpinned by the exciting revival of agriculture, increased mining production and also tourism.- The Herald
REAL Madrid forward Eden Hazard has suffered yet another injury in a torrid campaign blighted by fitness issues and is set to be out for up to six weeks with a thigh problem.
Real said in a statement yesterday that Hazard had injured a muscle in his left thigh following the day’s training session, which Spanish media said he was unable to complete.
The Belgian had missed the previous day’s session with muscle fatigue.
Real did not state for how long Hazard, 30, would be out although Spanish newspaper Marca indicated he would be sidelined for between four and six weeks.
He is ruled out of Saturday’s La Liga trip to Huesca and Tuesday’s home game with Getafe while he is almost certain to miss the Champions League last-16 first leg game at Atalanta on February 24, and their trip to league leaders Atletico Madrid on March 7.
Hazard, who joined Real from Chelsea for a club record €100 million in 2019, had his first season disrupted by two major ankle injuries and has had three separate spells on the sidelines this campaign.
He missed six weeks at the start of the season with an ankle injury and then was forced to miss two weeks in November after testing positive for Covid-19.
His return from the virus barely lasted 10 days due to a hamstring injury which prevented him from waiting six weeks for his next Real start, away to Osasuna on 9 January.
He showed signs of his ability with a goal and impressive individual performance in a 4-1 win at Alaves on 23 January but hopes of a full return to form have been dealt a fresh blow with this latest muscle injury.
Hazard has made only six LaLiga starts this season and has only completed 90 minutes in one league match in his short and troubled Real career.

Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said the tragic incident occurred on Monday when the now deceased was herding cattle in the company of his juvenile grandson just before sunset.

NEWLY-elected MDC president Douglas Mwonzora was yesterday accepted into the Parliament’s Standing Rules and Orders Committee (SROC) to replace Innocent Gonese — an ally of his erstwhile colleague, Nelson Chamisa.
Since the commencement of the ninth Parliament, Gonese, who is the MDC MP for Mutare Central, has been serving the opposition party’s interests in the powerful SROC.
But in a move seen as an effort by Mwonzora to consolidate his position, following his controversial election at the party’s extraordinary congress held in December amid allegations of massive rigging, Gonese was replaced under unclear circumstances.
Contacted for comment, Mwonzora said he was seconded to the SROC committee by the party last year as Parliament wanted someone with a legal background.
“Following the resignation of Innocent Gonese from the committee last year, I was seconded to the committee when I was still the secretary-general of the party.
“Parliament then accepted me in the committee through the announcement made by the Speaker of Parliament today. “Otherwise, I was seconded to the committee last year,” he said.
The SROC is the most powerful organ which runs the affairs of Parliament and makes important decisions.
Since Thokozani Khupe who was declared the interim MDC acting president by the Supreme Court in April, she recalled 21 legislators believed to be rallying behind Chamisa.
Apart from legislators, Khupe also recalled close to 80 MDC councilors who pledged allegiance to Chamisa.
The announcement by Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda that Mwonzora would be admitted to the committee comes as the latest move by the newly-elected MDC president to consolidate power.
Following his ascendency to power within the MDC, Mwonzora has been reaching out to disgruntled party members in a bid to bridge the impasse and mend relations in the party. -Daily News

Two Platinum Fuel employees accused of stealing nearly US$200 000 in transactions they entered with other fuel dealers between November last year and January this year, have been denied bail by a Harare magistrate.
Tatenda Maredza (31) and Malcolm Dodo (26) who allegedly duped Platinum Fuels, run by Ace Lumumba Gerald Mutumanje, were denied bail by magistrate Mrs Barbra Mateko who noted that they were flight risk.
Mrs Mateko also said they were likely to interfere with investigations. Maredza and Dodo are charged with theft of trust property, corruptly concealing a transaction from a principal and unlawful dealing in petroleum. They allegedly stole 153 000 litres of diesel worth US$158 520 and US$30 500 cash from Lumumba’s firm.
It is alleged that in November last year, Platinum Fuel represented by Lumumba received fuel worth US$244 780 from Comoil and the two were tasked to pay the supplier US$212 125 and they only paid US$202 125 and failed to account for US$9 900.
Further allegations are that during the period they received 60 000 litres of diesel worth US$61 800 which they sold and kept the money to themselves.
They allegedly received another 93 000 litres of diesel worth US$96 720 and they failed to account for the money or the diesel. It is the State’s case that on December 23 last year the two supplied International Freight Services with 18 000 litres on the pretext that it was coming from the company yet the company had no knowledge of the transaction.
On January 6 it is also alleged that they supplied the same company with 25 000 litres of diesel on the guise it was from the company.
Further allegations are that they also swindled their employer of US$20 600 on January 9 in another fuel deal.
The court heard that the duo were arrested after supplying 10 000 litres of diesel at Skyline service station along Masvingo Road on the pretext that it was from Platinum Fuel while they were not licenced fuel dealers.
The State alleges that the two failed to account for 153 000 litres of diesel worth US$158 520 and US$30 500 cash. -Herald

Jailed former Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Jason Machaya has filed an application for leave to appeal at the Supreme Court after his application for bail pending appeal against conviction and sentence was dismissed by the Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Christopher Dube-Banda.
Machaya (68) and his accomplice provincial planning officer Chaisayanyerwa Chibururu (50) were last year in September each sentenced to 48 months imprisonment for criminal abuse of office.
Chibururu has however, since been released on $50 000 bail pending appeal.
They were convicted by provincial magistrate Ms Charity Maphosa for unlawfully allocating 17 799 stands to land developers in Gokwe town, who in turn gave the pair 1 000 stands worth US$900 000 which was computed as $900 000 in local currency.
The court ruled against an application by the State for the accused persons to pay restitution of 1 000 stands to Gokwe town saying they had benefitted nothing from the criminal abuse of office charges.
The court also ruled against the State’s application to call to the witness stand a Government estate evaluator to give the new value of the stands.
In dismissing Machaya’s application for bail pending appeal, Justice Dube-Banda said the applicant failed to discharge the onus upon him to proffer positive grounds warranting his release.
Machaya, who is challenging his conviction and sentence under case number HCA90/20, through his lawyers Mbidzo, Muchadehama and Makoni Legal Practitioners, yesterday filed a fresh application at the Bulawayo High Court for leave to appeal at the Supreme Court.
In his grounds of appeal, Machaya said Justice Dube-Banda misdirected himself by denying him bail on the basis that he would abscond, arguing that there was no evidence suggesting that he was flight risk.
“The court also erred in holding that there was no prospect of success when there were such prospects of success on both conviction and sentence,” he said.
Machaya said the High Court ignored his explanation and evidence, arguing that the essential elements of the offence had not been proved.
“In regard to sentence this court’s default position was that sentencing was in the direction of the trial court. The court even sought to magnify the aggravating factors in the matter. The harshness of the sentence imposed show that up-service was done to the factors of mitigation I had advanced,” he argued.
“I feel discriminated by the court when it granted bail to my co-appellant and denied me bail. I have a right to appeal to the Supreme Court or Constitutional Court and it is my intention to appeal against the conviction and sentence right up to the last court, whatever it takes.”
Machaya said due to the Covid-19 measures that are being implemented by the courts, the delay of the prosecution of his appeal will be rendered useless if he is not granted bail.
“In the circumstances, I pray that I be granted leave to appeal this court’s refusal to grant me bail pending appeal to the Supreme Court,” he said.
The State is yet to respond to Machaya’s latest application. Initially, the State, which was represented by Mr Khumbulani Ndlovu had opposed the application, which Machaya had jointly filed with Chibururu, arguing that there was no guarantee that if released on bail the two appellants would not abscond.
Mr Ndlovu said the appellants lost the benefit of the presumption of innocence following their conviction.
According to court papers, between 2011 and 2017, Machaya used his official powers to acquire 1 000 residential stands that were available in Mapfungautsi suburb in Gokwe town.
The area is under Gokwe Town Council’s administration and Machaya’s conduct was contrary to Government policy which authorises the Local Government Ministry to acquire only 10 percent of residential stands.
Due to Machaya’s conduct, Gokwe Town Council lost revenue. Machaya further imposed a land developer, Striations World Marketing Property Developers, to service and sell stands without following proper tender procedures.
In 2013, Machaya made verbal demands to Gokwe Town Council to release 1 000 stands as opposed to written requests made by the Local Government Ministry.
Chibururu working in cahoots with Machaya drew plans before the stands were allocated to private land developers. -Chronicle

A 44-year-old Bulawayo man died before admission to Mpilo Central Hospital after he was assaulted over amacimbi by two men in Old Pumula suburb.
The late Mr Khumbula Homes Zulu suffered a swollen mouth and internal injuries after he was attacked by two men identified only as Tho and Rey whose ages are not known.
Mr Zulu was allegedly beaten for refusing to share his mopane worms with the two accused persons.
He developed breathing complications after the assault and died two days later when his mother had taken him to the hospital.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident yesterday.
He urged people who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the two accused persons to contact any nearest police station.
“Police are investigating a suspected case of murder which occurred in Old Pumula on the 25th of January 2021.
“The deceased is Khumbula Homes Zulu, a male adult aged 44 years who resides in Old Pumula.
“The accused persons are Rey and Tho both of number 5313 Old Pumula, Bulawayo,” said Insp Ncube.
He said Zulu left home going to Old Pumula shops to buy amacimbi.
After buying, he was approached by the accused persons who asked for some.
“A misunderstanding arose after he refused to share his amacimbi that led to a fist fight and after that Zulu went away to drink alcohol.
At around 6pm Zulu visited his friend Freedom Dube and narrated his fist fight story complaining of hunger and having difficulties in breathing,” he said.
“On January 26, 2021 at around 8AM, Mr Dube woke him up and discovered that he was still having difficulties in breathing.
“He told Zulu’s mother but she dismissed it saying he usually experiences such.”
Insp Ncube said Zulu’s condition continued to deteriorate until Mr Dube took him to his home at around 8pm.
“On 27 January 2021 at 2AM, Zulu’s mother summoned an ambulance which ferried him to Mpilo Central Hospital where he later died before admission. CID homicide attended the scene,” said Insp Ncube.−Chronicle

By A Correspondent- Coca-Cola, a multinational beverages company has donated US$50 000 to Bulawayo for the implementation of a water and sanitation project.
The donation was made through Coca-Cola Company’s philanthropic arm, Coca-Cola Foundation, which awarded the money to DanChurchAid Zimbabwe Coca-Cola to implement the project.
The project is premised at addressing the recurrent water shortages issue that has perennially affected the second-largest city on Zimbabwe.
Speaking during the cheque handover ceremony at DanChurchAid offices in Harare, the company’s country director Mr Milidzani Ncube said:
The funding will be used to conduct site surveys, drill six boreholes and equip the solar driven water kiosks that will provide water to families in Bulawayo.
The Coca-Cola Foundation, The Coca-Cola Company and its bottling partners Schweppes and Delta are proud to be responding to this water crisis that will enable more than 25 000 people to access much needed safe and clean water daily.
Lack of access to safe water and sanitation services has direct health implications.
The six-months-long project is scheduled for completion by June 2021 and will be the second within a year after Schweppes Zimbabwe provided 2 181 families with clean water in Bulawayo as part of their Covid-19 humanitarian support.
Schweppes Zimbabwe is a manufacturer and distributor of non-carbonated still beverages under licence from The Coca-Cola Company in partnership with DanChurchAid Zimbabwe.
Last year, Bulawayo was distributing water on a rationed basis, a situation that saw poor communities in Cowdray Park, an informal settlement in the Bulawayo District, walking more than a kilometre to get water.
It is strongly believed that the African Development Bank (AfDB)-funded Bulawayo Water and Sanitation Services Improvement Project (BWSSIP) will have a significant impact on addressing water challenges in Bulawayo.-statemedia

Arrest economic decay manifesting in looting and gross misgovernance, not our innocent MdcTrio, Mdc Alliance Namibia lambasts Zanu pf
03 February 2021
The continued arrest and torture of the Mdc trio, Honourable Joana Mamombe, Netsai Marova and Cecilia Chimbiri epitomises high levels of political emptiness in a rogue regime that has absolutely failed to resuscitate the sinking Zimbabwe economy. As if their incarceration is not enough after being abducted and raped last year, Zanupf thugocrats went on to arrest the Mdc Alliance Youth Leaders without laying charges on them. Mdc Alliance Namibia angrily demands the immediate release of our vibrant MP for Harare West, National Youth Vice-Chairperson and National Youth Assembly Vice-Organiser for they are not criminals but genuine ambassadors for socio-economic transformation.
Moreover, we would like to reiterate that their only crime is subscribing to the national democratic revolution without reservations. We urge social democrats around the globe to voice up against Zanupf’s attempt to silence dissenting political opinions through their popular weaponisation of the law. At the time of their arbitrary arrest, Zimbabwe Lawyers for human rights confirmed that the charges and allegations were still not very clear although section 50 (1)(a) of the supreme law of the country stipulates that one must be informed of the charge upon arrest. We satarise this as a serious miscarriage of justice which they deliberately do to frustrate citizens who are challenging senseless and barefaced corruption in Zanupf government.
Moreso, Mdc Alliance Namibia is cognisant of the insatiable appetite in the clueless Zanupf to expose young female activists to the deadly Covid-19 pandemic for the most nebulous of reasons like what they did to our organic National Spokesperson Advocate Fadzai Mahere who tested positive after her satanic detention. A flash demonstration outside the New Government Complex does not warrant any arrest since freedom of expression and association are provided in the 2013 constitution. Social democrats across the lengths and breadths of the globe must pent up their outrage demanding justice to all prisoners of conscience such as the Mdc trio, Honourable Job SaroWiwa Sikhala, Hopewell Chin’ono, Tungamirai Madzokere, Last Maengahama, Allan Moyo only to mention but a few.
The confirmation from the captured Zimbabwe Republic Police certified its connivance with the sadist Zanupf regime in trying to close the democratic space in the country. This illegitimate insensitive regime is now desperate to retain power at all costs sacrificing the blood, tears and sweat of real patriots who are ever ready to revamp the economy as an alternative government. Lets all stand on our feet to claim Zimbabwe back from Zanupf terrorists. WeDemandNewLeaders.

By Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala| I received intelligence early morning on Friday the 8th of January 2021, that the regime of Emmerson Mnangagwa was planning to arrest me.
Be blessed.
Dynamos have announced the signing of five new players ahead of the possible start of the 2021 season.
The Glamour Boys have signed former Highlanders midfielder Tinashe Makanda, Trevor Mavhunga from Triangle United, and Frank Makarati who was with Ngezi Platinum.
Ex-CAPS United and Bosso striker Newman Sianchali has also arrived at the Harare giants to become the latest of the few players to sign for all of the country’s big three clubs.
Luke Musukiri completes the list after moving from Prince Edward Academy.
The new arrivals were confirmed by the club on Wednesday.
They will join the rest of the squad once the lockdown is over and group training is allowed.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos might be seriously-considering leaving the Spanish giants if his recent Instagram activity is anything to go by.
Negotiations for a contract extension between Ramos and Los Blancos have reportedly hit a snag, with the 13-time European champions offering the veteran defender a year extension with the same salary yet he wants an improved two year deal.
Previously, the Florentino Perez-led board has done the same to legendary goalkeeper Iker Cassilas and Portuguese defender Pepe, who both left as a result.
Yesterday, Ramos liked an Instagram post criticising the manner in which Real Madrid treat their legends, a move interpreted by some as a way the defender is showing displeasure at the club.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe
Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane will lead his charges at the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar this week seeking to make more history for the Egyptian giants.
The outspoken South African tactician joined the Red Devils from Mamelodi Sundowns last year and won the treble in a very short period of time.
Al Ahly’s victory over rivals Zamalek in the CAF Champions League final ensured the ticket to the Club World Cup, a tournament for all continental champions across the globe.
The last time Mosimane took part in the the annual showpiece was in 2016 while in the Masandawana dugout- the Brazilians lost1-4 to Juenbuk Hyundai and 0-2 to Kashima Antlers, thereby missing out on a chance to play then European champions Real Madrid.
Now the Champions League holders are Bayern Munich and for Mosimane’s charges to play the Bavarians, they have to get past Al Duhail in the second round on Thursday.
If Al Ahly somehow beat Bayern, they will become only the second African team in history to reach the tournament’s final.-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

A 16-year-old Chinhoyi girl faces imprisonment if she fails to pay $15 000 fine imposed by a local magistrate for loitering late into the night with two unidentified men in violation of government’s Covid-19 curfew.
Chinhoyi magistrate Melody Rwizi Monday found Blessing Macharika guilty of contravening Section 25 (2) of Statutory Instrument (SI) 10/21 which pertains to “disobeying curfew orders and regulations”.
Blessing was also convicted for breaching Section 4 (i)(a) of SI 83/20 that criminalises unnecessary movement during the national lockdown.
The teenager, who is of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty and was fined $15 000 to be paid by 15 February 2021, failure to which she will spend 60 days in jail.
The magistrate set aside 30 days for the next two years on condition she does not commit a similar offence.
The State case, led by Nyasha Sibesha, was that on 28 January 2021 at around 11pm, Blessing was roaming at Gadzema main bus terminus, Chinhoyi while in the company of two unidentified men.
The trio spotted a team of police officers who were on routine patrol and started running away prompting the officers to pursue them.
Blessing was apprehended during the chase while her colleagues vanished into the darkness.
She was handcuffed and taken to Chemagamba Police Station where she was charged for breaching the on-going curfew meant to curtail the spread of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
In passing her ruling, the magistrate said the courts must impose harsh penalties on violators of the national curfew order and lockdown regulations in order to deter would-be offenders.

Dear Editor-
The bail ruling for the MDCA Youth Assembly National Deputy Chairperson @ceechimbiri2 and Youth Assembly Secretary for Policy & Mp for Harare West Constituency Hon @JoanaMamombe has been postponed to tomorrow 4/2/21 at 9am.
Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance has pointed out that Douglas Mwonzora is being used by Zanu PF to disrupt service delivery in local authorities.
The MDC Alliance will soon release a detailed report revealing how Mwonzora is being used by Zanu PF to stifle development in local authorities.
See the MDC Alliance statement below:
Harare City Council: A ticking Time Bomb
A disaster of unprecedented proportions is looming at the capital city of the country, Harare.
The effects of the collapse will be felt by the whole country for a long time to come.
In that period, four (4) Full Council meetings were disrupted by the police and the so called Special Anti-corruption unit in Mr. Mnangagwa’s office headed by his nephew Thabani Vusa Mpofu. The same disruption happened in Chitungwiza Municipality.
In all cases, the Councilors, officials who got arrested during these Full Council meetings got released without charge after being held for long hours at Harare Central Police Station.
Such harassment did not spare Councilors attending Committee meetings. Many Committee meetings and Full Council meetings flopped several times due to failure to have a quorum and fear of being harassed or arrested. Council Chamber is like Parliament, no one should be arrested or disturbed while in the Council Chambers.
The Mayor, Deputy Mayor & Town Clerk all are on suspension. Therefore council is unable to do either Committee or Full Council meetings. The Mayor or Deputy Mayor is the only office mandated to appoint an Acting Town Clerk. The Town Clerk is the Chief Signatory of Council accounts and we can’t have three people acting on Town Clerks position within three months. We are talking of a position which is supposed to safeguard residents’ money, the Chief Accounting Officer of council.
Harare City Council has already done its work of confirming the vacant Directorship post but the Ministry of Local Government is yet to confirm. Failure to act is because the Minister of Local Government who is supposed to constitute the controversial Local Government Board is yet to do so. It is close to 5 years now without the Local Government Board.
The rest of the Directors are working in an acting capacity as a direct result of the harassment by the police and are afraid to make decisions.
The state of affairs is a result of the disfunctionality of the Local Government Board, a board that finalizes the appointment of senior Council staff on behalf of the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. July Moyo.
The Town Clerk, Engineer Hosiah Chisango, is on suspension. In the absence of a Mayor and Deputy Mayor no one can assume the position of Acting Town Clerk. An acting Town clerk can only be appointed by the Chairperson of Council, in this case the Mayor.
3) The results
The state of affairs at Harare, is a direct result of the unnecessary and illegal recalls of MDC Alliance Councilors by the by Khupe and Mwonzora. In total Mwonzora recalled 22 MDC Alliance Councilors and the other two were occasioned by death.
Among those recalled were, The Mayor Cllr Gomba and his deputy, His Worship Mupamawonde. Six of the eight committee chairpersons were recalled as well.
Sadly, July Moyo suspended the new Mayor His Worship Cllr Jacob Mafume and his Deputy, Councilor Mukunguma thus bringing down the service delivery apparatus at Harare.
4) The Consequences
The result of all the actions of central government and Mr. Mwonzora is a total handicapped city governance system.
Massive asset stripping and property looting will happen in the absence of the checks and balances and oversight provided by the Councilors both in committees and in full council. This is a huge disaster which future forensic audits will confirm.
Land will be corruptly disposed of and the case of unplanned settlements will sprout up uncontrollably. Allocation of land was stopped while more illegal demolitions have been promised by the Provincial Development Coordinator. They is no logic in demolishing houses while stopping proper allocation of stands. Where will these people go?
Contracts for water treatment chemicals and other materials including transfers from central government will all find their way into the deep and bottomless pockets of the well-heeled and politically connected, corrupt Zanu PF cartels.
New models of service delivery such as the management of parking will be taken over and destroyed by Zanu PF and will be driven to the ground.
Solution
A detailed exposé of deliverables and work in progress will be made in the next submission showing clearly the damage and disruption caused by Mwonzora and Zanu PF’s illegal recall of democratically elected MDC Alliance councilors.

Secretary for Local Government and Rural Development
The Youth Advocacy for Reform and Democracy notes, with utter disdain and regret, the
false allegations that are making the rounds on social media, allegations aimed at defaming
the characters of our Founder and Commander in Chief, Honorable Temba Mliswa, and
extends to two other YARD Officials- our Secretary General, Eleanor Kaziboni and
Commander Goodwill Zinyama.
We would like to state for the record that these allegations are fictitious, baseless and uncouth animations, authored in the heads of patriarchs that are bent on soiling the aforementioned commanders.
While we appreciate that such dirty political tactics are always expected in Zimbabwean
politics, we feel that there is a much broader power dynamic at play, and it is this dynamic of
toxic masculinity that we are challenging. Honorable Mliswa is a grown man, and his
personal relations remain that, PERSONAL.
However, problems arise when we see an attack on a generation, and attack on a young
person and an attack on the Equality of opportunity to participate in politics, for women in
Zimbabwe.
The accusations that have been levelled against Eleanor Kaziboni are a representation of
toxic masculinity, which is embedded in the heads of the accuser and her handlers. It is
disheartening that these attacks are being manufactured by another woman who is educated.
YARD has always been a safe space for young people, including women, to develop
themselves, receive mentoring and equal opportunity to realize their potential, work and gain skills and institutional memory on effective representation, have been offered to young people by Honorable Mliswa, who immediately assumes the role of loco-parenthesis for all the mentees that he works with. Like Eleanor, young women including Abigale Mupambi, Sakhile Khumalo, Chipo Musukutwa and Tariro Tawana have all worked closely with Honorable Mliswa, and they have worked with him in a respectful and progressive manner.
It is a matter of principle for him, principle that is sacrosanct for him. We challenge Susan Mutami, to substantiate her claims, or to withdraw unconditionally, the accusations laid on Eleanor Kaziboni. Zimbabweans need to remember that Susan Mutami joins a growing list of baseless accusers, attacking Honorable Mliswa’s character.
Eleanor Kaziboni is an upright young woman of integrity and honor. She has served in
Norton with Distinction and earned the office of YARD Secretary General due to merit and
her love for Zimbabwe.
She has, unfortunately, been publicly humiliated, harassed, abused and has suffered from these accusations. She represents a sector of Zimbabwean women who have been discouraged by a mob, from engaging in politics, which results in the low participation of women in electoral processes.
Eleanor represents the girl child, who is raised and consistently reminded to stay away from politics and public representation, in fear of such victimization.
The attacks on Eleanor, were mooted and implemented by people who feel that women have no place in politics. The Secretary General is a disciplined and talented young leader, and she has now been forced to live with this stage managed intentional and deliberate political attack on Honorable Temba Mliswa.
We would further like to register our disagreement with the weaponization and stigmatization of the LGBTQ communities, for the scoring of cheap political points. The burden of proof on this allegation remains with Susan Mutambi, and we hope that she will reflect on all she has said, and her conscience will advise her towards reconstructive steps
We will reiterate that Honorable Temba Mliswa has never, and will never engage in any
affair of a sexual nature with any of the YARD Commanders.
YARD remains a safe place for all young people. Our movement has very clear policies on the respect foor women, youths.
We Stand with Eleanor Kaziboni, we Stand with Goodwill Zinyama and his family and we
stand with Honorable Temba Mliswa, who to this day, continues to face accusations and
allegations that always fail to test the acid test of substance and fact.

Tinashe Sambiri|Former MDC Alliance Masvingo Provincial chairperson, Wilstaff Sitemere, has castigated Douglas Mwonzora and Morgen Komichi for ” betraying the people’s struggle.”
Sitemere is a fearless MDC cadre who personally led rescue operations at the height of political violence in 2008. He was arrested and threatened with death several times.
Commenting on a message written on Facebook by another veteran activist, Stanley Manguma about the way forward in the struggle for freedom, Sitemere said:
“Sinyoro handei kwaStephen Serima Matizha togozopfuura nokuSoti Sosi kuChiguhune uko timboona kuti Gutu inodzokera pekare paye here.( Let’s go back to Gutu and other places so that we can rekindle the spirit of the struggle).

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance Secretary General Hon Charlton Hwende has said the political formation led by Douglas Mwonzora and Thokozani Khupe is Emmerson Mnangagwa’s baby.
Mnangagwa funded the MDC-T Congress in a bid to weaken the MDC Alliance, argued Hon Hwende.
“The Outfit calling itself MDC-T was created by Zanu pf and Mnangagwa himself.
He funded their so called Extra Ordinary Congress, provided ZUPCO buses and the HICC as a venue for their EOC.
He provided soldiers that helped them grab our Headquarters, His Minister of Finance on ED’s instructions diverted money from the budget that was allocated to the MDC Alliance violating a Supreme Court Order that had stopped disbursement of the funds.
Jacob Mudenda a Politburo member acting on ED’s instructions stole our MPs and gave them to MDC-T a party that had contested elections and only managed to get 1 seat.
So what National Dialogue is this paper talking about. ZANU PF and this Zanupf lite going by the moniker MDC-T must stop misleading the nation,” argued Hon Hwende.

By A Correspondent- A social soccer player from Nsingo village under Chief Masendu in Plumtree allegedly struck a rival team with an axe after a misunderstanding over the results which he claimed had been tampered with.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident on Monday.
Mangena said the accused, Mongisi Ncube (28), whose team name was not named, allegedly axed Fedelis Dube (22) after their two teams drew 2-all during a social soccer match last Saturday.
Dube was taken to Plumtree District Hospital for treatment.
“On January 30, two social teams were playing soccer at Nsingo playing field when their teams were level on scores. Dube’s team claimed that they had won the game.
“A misunderstanding then ensued, resulting in Ncube picking an axe and striking Dube on the chest,” Mangena said.
The matter was then reported to the police, which led to Ncube’s arrest. Mangena said Ncube would be charged with attempted murder.-newsday
By A Corresponndent- Health professionals have accused government of allegedly concealing COVID-19 statistics in the country to give the impression that the virulent disease was under control at a time it has ballooned out of control, with nurses and doctors having been turned into “super spreaders”of the deadly virus.
Dozens of doctors and nurses recently reportedly tested positive to the COVID-19 virus, while others have since succumbed to the respiratory disease.
The country is currently grappling with the soaring numbers of COVID-19 infections that have risen to 33 548 and 1 234 deaths as of Monday.
The Zimbabwe Senior Doctors Association, in a statement yesterday, said the pandemic had become a vicious robber to the medical fraternity where it has killed several frontline workers.
“COVID-19 has been a vicious robber to the medical fraternity in Zimbabwe this year. We mourn our specialist surgeon brother Tendai Mutwira barely a week after losing Professor James Hakim,” the senior doctors said.
Bulawayo-based medical doctor, Cherifa Sururu also succumbed to COVID-19, while there were reports that 66 members of staff at Chinhoyi General Hospital tested positive to the virus this week.
Zimbabwe Nurses Association president Enock Dongo said it was heart-breaking that the government continued to ignore a High Court order compelling it to provide health professionals with adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) and other necessities to prevent them from contracting the virus during the course of their duties.
“We don’t have statistics of how many nurses nationally have been infected and affected by COVID-19. They (government) don’t want to give us that (statistics),” Dongo said.
“When we talk of COVID-19, everyone with a problem converges at a hospital. The same health workers exposed to COVID-19 use Zupco buses on their way home, they use the same supermarkets with the rest of the people, and they go home to interact with tenants and family.
“You find that health workers are now the super spreaders of COVID-19, and without addressing the issue of protecting health workers through reducing the hours spent at hospitals and giving them proper PPEs, we are not going to succeed in controlling COVID-19,” he said.
Dongo said most hospitals and clinics had closed because they were struggling to cope with pressure.
“This has all been caused by the defiance of the High Court order by the (Health and Child Care) secretary (Jasper Chimedza) to decongest hospitals.”
He warned that the few health centres operating would soon result in the majority of their workforce being in quarantine.
“The moment you protect the health workers, you will be protect-ing the nation because their numbers to different locations, using public trans-port and spreading COVID-19. Those are simple things that a normal per-son should look into.”
Teclar Barangwe, member of the Medical Workers’ Union said private health institutions were also neglect-ing their workers, adding that one of the private clinics in the country recently lost a nurse to the pandemic on Sunday.
“We lost one of our nurses on Sun-day and the majority of workers are testing positive to COVID-19. Employers are refusing to pay COVID-19 allowances. The majority of centres are now taking COVID-19 patients, but are refusing to pay workers’ allowances. The issue of medication for workers who test positive is also an issue of concern. The employers are not taking care of them,” she said.
In a statement on COVID-19 yesterday which was issued by Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa, government claimed that the surge in COVID-19 cases was now under control, but did not mention anything about the health workers.
Mutsvangwa warned those that continued to flout COVID-19 regulations, saying to date 21 647 people had been arrested.
Meanwhile, China has pledged to assist the troubled Zimbabwean government with COVID-19 vaccines together with 12 other developing countries.
“Zimbabwe will be one of the first 13 countries to receive vaccine aid from China very soon,” Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Guo Shaochun said on his official Twitter handle.
The Asian giant’s Foreign Affairs minis-try spokesperson Wang Wenbin also issued a statement saying Zimbabwe and other developing countries that include Belarus, Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone will get the vaccines to combat the coronavirus.
“Firstly, apart from Pakistan, China is also providing vaccine aid to Brunei, Nepal, the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Pakistan, Belarus, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea, al-together 13 developing countries,” the Chinese Foreign Affairs ministry spokesperson said.
It was not clear when China would avail the vaccine to Zimbabwe. Reports also reveal that Zimbabweans based in South Africa will benefit from the COVID-19 vaccination programme, which will be rolled out soon in the neighbouring country.
This was revealed by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday night, while addressing the nation.
South Africa has secured over 40 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, which will be rolled out in phases.
“We aim to make the vaccine available to all adults in SA, regardless of their citizenship or residence status. We will be putting in place measures to deal with the challenge of undocumented migrants so that, as with all other people, we can properly record and track their vaccination history,” Ramaphosa said.
Executive director of the Community Working Group on Health (CWGH) Itai Rusike said he was concerned that the 2021 National Budget did not allocate additional resources to fight COVID-19 in the country.
“This will impact negatively on the government’s capacity to deliver proper and decent healthcare, and in turn, an extensive national vaccination programme. We also need better human resourcing if we are to adequately respond to this pandemic,” Rusike said.
While some Zimbabweans have expressed doubt about accepting the COVID-19 vaccines, the director of the Africa Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention, John Nkengasong for African Union encouraged Africans to accept the vaccines.
“There is need to strengthen capacity (vaccine manufacturing) as part of our health security apparatus on the continent. There are three things that you need to guarantee your health security in terms of emerging disease; the ability to manufacture vaccines, the ability to produce diagnosis and the ability to manufacture drugs. If you miss any of the three, you are struck with the ability to fight effectively any pandemic,” he said during a CDC weekly Press briefing.-Newsday

Only God knows why I was arrested for no offense. Chino tsvaka vanhu ava chikuru chaicho about my life but I am not afraid at all.
All will come to pass and get Zimbabwe working again. Zimbabwe belongs to its people not these muppets. They think they own Zimbabwe.
They don’t. It’s for every Zimbabwean. Zvavari kuita izvi ma funnies aya. Freedom is going to come during our lifetime.
We shall all witness a new Zimbabwe that will respect humanity and rights of the people not this nonsense we are seeing. Persecution is practiced by cursed leadership that has been canceled by God.
I still wonder why these idiots arrested me and kept me in solitary confinement for 26 days. This will end. I know it will end.
Believe me it will end. They shall all perish. God is not fooled by the antics of those who have already been condemned by Him.
They are living on borrowed times. Thank you great fighters who led a shaking demonstration at the Ministry of Justice.
I heard about your power when I was in jail. Progressive people in prison told me about your great job you did. I will write a comprehensive feedback to the world later today.
May God bless you all
By A Correspondent| At Harare Magistrates Court, Joana Mamombe and Cecelia Chimbiri’s lawyer Charles Kwaramba has appealed to Magistrate Stanford Mambanje to release the duo on bail.
But Prosecutor Audrey Chogumaira is opposing the bail application saying the duo committed the offence while out of custody on bail.
Chogumaira says the accused persons are not proper candidates to be set free on bail.
Chogumaira said Mamombe and Chimbiri are “undermining the court system” which would have granted them bail by committing other offences.
Kwaramba says the duo is being targeted as part of political persecution since Mamombe and Chimbiri are opposition MDC Alliance party youth leaders.
Kwaramba says the charge of contravening national lockdown was repealed and hence the charge is defective.
Kwaramba tells Magistrate Mambanje that the duo was arrested while coming from medical check ups at Dr Norman Matara’s medical chambers and had been advised to undergo some procedures and treatment.
Kwaramba added that Mamombe and Chimbiri were only arrested by the police assumed that they were part of a demo allegedly staged at New Government Complex and yet they weren’t part of the protest.

By A Correspondent- Four Bindura security guards at Pote farm who allegedly killed a farm worker who had stepped on maize plants while picking potatoes at the farm were arraigned before a Bindura court, Tuesday..
The guards Wellington Katakura (41), Gift Kafukutu (26), Athony Pin (20) and Benjamin Kaseke (48) were not asked to plead to the charge by magistrate Samantha Dhlamini.
They were remanded in custody to March 9 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The state alleged that on December 24, the security guards together with their accomplice Clement Zandonda, who is still at large arrested Tinashe Muchesa (30) for stepping on a maize crop while picking potatoes in Field 4.
They started assaulting him using open hands, booted feet and switches all over the body and Muchesa sustained severe bruises on some body parts and a depressed forehead.
The accused persons seized Muchesa’s belongings and shared them amongst themselves before force-marching Muchesa out of the crime scene and left him at a nearby road unable to walk.
Muchesa subsequently succumbed to the injuries sustained.
