President Chamisa A Gifted Leader

Tinashe Sambiri|President Nelson Chamisa has the vision to lead the nation to prosperity, MDC Alliance Secretary General, Hon Charlton Hwende has said.

“Underestimate this man and the MDC Alliance at your own peril.

The Leader and the Party has a vision and a road Map to a People’s Government that we were given by our Last Congress.

Fighting a military dictatorship and a vampire State like the one led by ED requires a visionary leader who is Brave, Principled and does not waiver.

He refused to be bought by Zanu-PF that wanted to give him offices, money , body guards and a leader of official opposition title because he won the election and the people’s vote must be respected. Ultimately it’s about the people and the People know their genuine leader.

Lastly you can make jokes about his faith but God must always be praised and worshipped,” Hon Hwende said in a statement.

FULL TEXT- MLO Condemn Attach On Dr Khupe

We condemn with all strongest terms the tribal attack by Shona youth,  two days back, that saw Thokozani Khupe pelted with water bottles, slapped and called a prostitute at an MDC T Congress in Harare, Mashonaland.

A woman exercising  her democratic right to freedom of speech cannot be a threat to anyone except tribalistic cowards in Mashonaland who do not want to be led by a Matabele person and bent on belittling, humiliating, causing pain and spilling innocent Matabele blood at any given opportunity.

The humiliating event exposed the hypocrisy by the government of Zimbabwe as it happened soon after the Unity Day event to show that there is no such thing as unity in Zimbabwe. It also shows that as Matabele people, Shonas are not, and will never be our brothers and sisters.

The government of Zimbabwe that is the custodian of the so called Unity Accord failed to condemn the tribal attack. Where are the Shona clerics, human rights groups,  women’s rights organisations and non- governmental organizations who usually make a deafening noise when a Shona woman is attacked or abused? Yes they are quiet, looking on the side and laughing as it is a hated and unwanted Matabele woman being attacked. They behaved the same way when Matabele people were being dastardly slaughtered by the Zimbabwe National Army 5th Brigade during Matabeleland genocide.

In 2017 Morgan Tsvangirai himself sent Shona youth to beat up Thokozani Khupe for questioning his illegal appointment of Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri as vice presidents.

In 2018 the Shona youths, sent by another tribalist and coward, Nelson Chamisa, attempted to burn Thokozani Khupe in a thatched hut while she attended Tsvangirai’s funeral. She was told to go back to Matabeleland because Shonas cannot be led by Matabeles. She survived by the skin of her teeth as the rain extinguished the raging fires that were meant to take her life. Also in the same year, she was chased out of Harvest House by the same tribalistic Shona MDC Youth.

As the king of tribalism Chamisa, found it fit and good to abuse and beat up a Matabele woman, Thokozani Khupe soon after taking over MDC leadership through a coup, Douglas Modzora has done the same.

The intention is the same and there is one common enemy, politically and otherwise for Shona people. It is Matabele people. Shonas in their entirety do not want to be lead by a Matabele person, not even on a temporary basis.

That is why in all Zimbabwe political parties, the highest position Matabele can hold is that of second vice president. It is the same order in ZANUPF where Kembo Mohadi is second Vice President. He too was told by Mnangagwa that he will never rule Zimbabwe. He is a darling of the Shona people at the moment as he plays good boy politics. He is not vocal and brave like Khupe, he never questions any decision by his masters, 1st Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga and President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

It is the same order at MDC Alliance where Welshman Ncube (Matabele) is second Vice President. And soon another Matabele will take over as Vice President at MDC T where Mondzora has taken over the presidency after winning elections.

The Shona leaders and their supporters have demonstrated in many ways for 40 long years that they hate Matabele people. This they have said openly in public rallies and meetings for the whole to world hear.

The evil actions like Matabele genocide between 1980 and 1987, tribal marginalisation of Matabele people in all spheres of life and subtle genocide in the form of slaughtering of our languages, culture, identity and dignity demonstrate further the natural and unending tribal hatred against Matabele people.

To wallow in the false belief that we must remain as part of Zimbabwe in the face of these clear evil intentions to destroy our nations is too risky. Wake up and smell the coffee, Matabeles have no future in Zimbabwe!

Whether we like it or not, this leaves us with only one option as Matabele people, that is to restore the statehood of Matabeleland that was destroyed on 3 November 1893.

We know it will never be a walk in the park but we have no choice. For a new baby to be born there should be loss of blood. For a girl to lose her virginity and be prepared for the process of reproduction there should be loss of blood. And we all know that freedom is not cheap, it is bought at the highest price which is our own blood.

We call upon all Matebele MDC-T youth to viciously attack  any of the following: Douglas Monzora or Nelson Chamisa next time he sets  his foot in Matabeleland. If Mashonaland is a no go zone for Matabele leaders let Matabeleland be a hot furnace for Shona leaders.

Dear VP Chiwenga- “Nurses Are Diverting Drugs To The Black Market. Help Us”

Dear Minister of Health

We the Murowa Ward community under Zvishavane write to your Vice President in your capacity as the Minister of Health. Nurses at Murowa Rural Clinic are diverting drugs and medication for resale onto the black market.

The drugs range from general pain killers, classified drugs and family planning medication. Right now there is no medication even a simple painkiller but they are readily available at a shop just a few meters from the clinic.

This scandalous practice whereby nurses steal drugs from the clinic and sell them using front men has been going on for a long time. The practice is rampant and so glaring obvious such that the local ward Councillor was seen buying drugs from one of the front men who operates a shop that sells clothes and fix tyres.

We really wonder if the Councillor is part of the cartel but the bottom line is he is very much aware of this malpractice.

We therefore seek your immediate action Vice President, these nurses together with their front men must be arrested. These are very dangerous people who don’t deserve to be anywhere near public institutions save for prisons.

Hundreds of poor villagers have died due to lack of medication as they can’t afford to buy same from the black market. Maybe we are cursed as a community because even drought relief grain and government sponsored agricultural inputs are being sold to us as we are forced to pay huge amounts in forex.

We trust you will come to our rescue Vice President.

Hopewell Chin’ono And Dr Khupe Are Both Working For Zanu Pf: HAKATA OPINION

By Knowledge Hakata- One of my friends asked me to write about the just ended ‘’extra ordinary chaos’’ at the HICC but I told him I don’t have time to write about that nonsense as everything that happened on the early hours of the 28th of December was already planned.

To me it was a well-acted drama and Khupe and Komichi played their roles very well, but if I get time I will open the eyes of blind Zimbabweans regarding that MDCT chaotic congress. Today I will spend much of my time explaining how Zanu Pf will remain in power through using opposition leaders and journalist cum activists like Hopewell Chin’ono.

REASONS WHY CHIN’ONO IS WORKING FOR VICE PRESIDENT CHIWENGA

Zimbabweans are too blind to see reality and that’s why Zanu Pf will remain in power for the next decade. Political events are well planned and they should not seem to be too obvious to notice and that is what Zanu Pf has mastered the most, rigging of elections it’s a small mechanism that Zanu Pf has used to stay in power for such a long time even when odds were against the survival of the party.

Evan Mawawire the once famous fake pastor who won the hearts of the desperate and ever hopeful Zimbabweans during his time while he was being used by Mnangagwa to cause masses to rise against the late President Robert Mugabe.

The plan might have taken an unexpected end but it finally paid off for team Lacoste and the fake pastor Evan Mawawire, the guy blinded Zimbabweans during that time and everybody thought a new saviour had come on board not knowing that he was there to feed his stomach and keep Zanu Pf in power via the change of a guard of honor in the capacity of Mnangagwa

Another charlatan that comes to my mind is the once vibrant Stan Zvorwadza who was also a canal actor who won the hearts of the vendors in Zimbabwe while working for Mnangagwa as well. The funny thing is that all these guys when they are acting they play the victims role very well that they easily become the darlings of Zimbabweans who are desperate for change at any cost. Zvorwadza is now a pale of his former glory just like Mawawire and both have been replaced by the current darling of the people Hopewell the activist of 2020

Thokozani Khupe and crew are working for the Zanu Pf faction led by Mnangagwa so that ED wins the 2023 elections. Anyone who dreams of a united opposition in Zimbabwe continue dreaming. All these opposition leaders are there to save a certain faction in Zanu Pf and that’s how Zanu Pf has managed to stay in power for quite a long time, it takes advantage of these greed charlatans and use them at the expense of a better Zimbabwe.

Prophets and most pastors in Zimbabwe are also captured by the regime and they are also used to extend the survival of Zanu Pf to remain in power, that’s why most of these fake prophets like Magaya, Mutendi Passion Java have become Zanu Pf bootlickers.

In short Zanu Pf has captured the church at the expense of suffering Zimbabweans, how on earth do these prophets continue to lie to Zimbabweans that every year is going to be a good year knowing that Zanu Pf is still existing.

Fake pastor Shingi Munyeza is another Chiwenga prodigal son who is doing the same job just like the above mentioned fake activists. As soon as ED is removed from power and replaced with another Zanu Pf devil that’s when the people will open their eyes and finally see that all along we were being used by these fake activists.

Godfrey Tsenegamu another fake and well sponsored activist faking to fight corruption and yet we all know that your fight is against Mnangagwa so that when he is replaced you can as well start to enjoy your heaven on earth life. These fake activists should be terminated from existence as they are the people that have caused the untold and continued suffering of Zimbabweans.

As for Hopewell Chin’ono he might be appealing to be an angel of light but my beloved Zimbabweans this guy is doing a good job to enlighten us about the rot that Zanu Pf has caused for the past forty years but at our expense as well as his agenda is to cause people especially the youths to rise against Mnangagwa and replace him with Chiwenga.

Zanu Pf will remain in power because of these fake activists like Hopewell who seem to be advocating for a better Zimbabwe yet in actual fact they are fronting the continued stay of Zanu Pf in power.

Hopewell seems to be exposing Mnangagwa to the core so that the people can rise against the ‘’soft as wool crocodile’’ not as a means of helping Zimbabweans but he is doing that to propel the continued existence of Zanu Pf on earth. Zimbabweans must open their eyes or else people will continue being used by these fake activists who are there to support Zanu Pf factions.

High Court Deals Marry Chiwenga Major Blow

By A Correspondent- High Court Judge Justice Benjamin Chikowero reportedly dismissed Marry Chiwenga nee Mubaiwa’s application to have her bail conditions reviewed so that she can travel to South Africa for treatment.

According to the publication, Justice Chikowero dismissed Mubaiwa Chiwenga’s application on the basis that she did not present the court with adequate information to warrant her bail conditions alteration.

The judgment releasing Marry Chiwenga ‘s application reads in part:

Applicant has placed inadequate information before the court to warrant alteration of her bail condition. In the result, the application is dismissed.

She has produced neither medical reports nor other medical records to substantiate her assertion that she had failed to obtain the care that she needs in this country.

I only have Mr Makarawo’s letter, written on November, 6, 2020.So there is that gap in the evidence.  What I have before me by way of Mubaiwa’s application is one sided.

It is true the National Prosecution Authority concedes that she is unwell, it is true also that she needs treatment, but that cannot be the end of the matter.

Indeed papers from her own doctors contain some grey areas. Mr Makarawo first attended to her on November 6, 2020.

He diagnosed her with lymphoedema and recommended that she be treated in South Africa because he believes that there are specialists there. I have already rejected his assertion that there are no lymphoedema specialists in Zimbabwe.

Dr J van Heerden might have been treating Mubaiwa before her arrest on December 4, 2019, but no evidence was placed before me to prove that he or she attended to her since then

Earlier this month, photos of Marry Chiwenga ‘s hands with very large wounds circulated and she drew sympathy from people on social media who speculated that she is being persecuted by her former husband VP Chiwenga.-statemedia

Air Zim Owes $100m In Outstanding Salaries

By A Correspondent- At least 300 workers fired by Air Zimbabwe (AirZim) five years ago, who have won a long-drawn legal battle to return to work, say they are owed $100 million in outstanding salaries by the struggling airline.

In High Court papers filed on December 24, in which they demand that AirZim administrator Reggie Saruchera be removed from the role, two unions representing the workers say this amount is rising daily because their relationship with the airline still subsists.

They say AirZim had an obligation to pay them monthly salaries.

The unions indicated that this amount has seen the combined debt accumulate since July 2015, when the airline “wrongfully, unlawfully and unfairly dismissed (them)…in a typical labour carnage or genocide” following the controversial Zuva judgment, which gave companies the power to fire workers at short notice.

The National Airways Workers Union and the Air Transport Union filed a case at the High Court on Christmas eve demanding that Saruchera be removed from his position for failing to comply with the December 7 Supreme Court order, which said they should return to work.

Saruchera is cited at the first respondent in the case, with AirZim being the second respondent.

“The conduct of the respondent has unduly and unjustifiably delayed the reconstruction of (AirZim) and frustrated the applicants’ members as employees who are now creditors to (AirZim) owed over $100 million, and the debt keeps mounting each passing day because the employer-employee relationship remains subsisting as was confirmed by the authoritative Supreme court judgment of December 7 2020,” the papers read.

“The balance of convenience definitely weighs in favour of the applicants in this matter as they are entitled to their wages and benefits in terms of the law.

“This honourable court is urged to grant this application to salvage applicants’ (workers) rights, which are at stake. The applicant’s members, who are reeling under social injustice, abject poverty and penury arising from deprivation of payment of their salaries and benefits as a source of eking out a living have been unjustly, wrongfully and unfairly forced to incur legal costs for this court application and it is just, fair and equitable that they be reimbursed,” the court papers said.

However, even if the airline agrees to draft them back to their positions, the workers will move into a totally different terrain as so much has changed at the national airline.

Back in 2015, AirZim was limping, but there was a semblance of hope following the arrival of two Airbus A320 jetliners, which were being used to open new routes and rebuild the airline’s lost markets. AirZim entered the Tanzanian market in 2016, only a year after relaunching the Harare-Lusaka route using the Chinese assembled MA60 airliners.

Most of this fleet has been grounded for various reasons.

And even before the COVID-19 pandemic grounded airlines this year, AirZim’s operations had been affected by a sea of hurdles including lack of capital and sliding passenger numbers.

The latest aircraft to be drafted into the AirZim fleet — two Boeing 777s acquired by the ill-fated Zimbabwe Airways from Malaysia in 2016, are too big to salvage the airline’s domestic and regional routes. But the workers believe that removing the State-appointed administrator would solve the airline’s problems.

“The first respondent has failed to execute his duties set out in the Act under which he was appointed an administrator, grossly neglecting payment of the applicant’s salaries and benefits owed and accruing from July 2015 running into millions of dollars, hence the application for his removal owing to failure to protect and safeguard the concerned employees’ right to be paid their salaries and wages,” the court application said.-Newsday

Angry Mob Bays For The Blood Of The Late Cop’s Husband

By A Correspondent- An angry mob that had gathered at the funeral of the police officer who was gunned down by her husband who is also a police officer attacked the late cop’s husband at the funeral of his wife.

Sergeant Tichaona Chirinhe gunned down a fellow police officer and his wife Julian Chirinhe, at their home in Unit F, Seke on Sunday. When that attack occurred at Julian’s funeral, Tichaona had been brought to the crime scene for indications.

People who spoke to the publication said they were surprised by the incident because all was well in the Chirinhe household:

We are not aware of any misunderstanding between the two, but we were shocked about this sad incident. It is our hope that the police will get to the bottom of the matter so that the law will take its course.

There was no quarrelling between these two, and I was shocked to discover that he had allegedly shot and seriously injured his wife before learning that the wife had passed on a few hours later.

According to eyewitness accounts:

The two had been married since 2006 and they had two children, aged 14 and seven. The neighbour, Ms Chiufama said that she was at her residence when she was approached by the suspect who was crying alleging that he had accidentally shot his wife and he wanted to be taken to the police station.

The couple’s 14-year-old daughter said on the day, the two had been on night duty and that her mother was the first one to arrive home at around 9am before she went out to pick up her husband at around 10.30am.

When the shooting occurred, the daughter was in the sitting room. When she heard a gunshot coming from the bedroom, she rushed to investigate.

It is alleged that she then found her father crying, saying that he had accidentally shot her mother as he was securing his firearm.

Sgt Julian Chirinhe was shot on the right part of her abdomen and the bullet exited through the left part of the abdomen.

Inspector Tsuro disarmed Sgt Tichaona Chirinhe of his service firearm, a PI pistol, before arresting him. When he was searched, he was allegedly found with a 9mm spent cartridge and seven 9mm live rounds which were in his trousers back pocket.-statemedia

Minors Who Killed Soldier Tracked By Men In Suits

By A Correspondent- Unidentified men clad in suits are reportedly threatening minor children that killed a soldier with death, Newsday reports.

The 3 minor children aged 15, 12, and 10 have reportedly been taken to a safe house after receiving threats from the suits-clad people.

This was revealed by an officer at one of the NGOs who is working alongside the Department of Social Welfare to ensure the children’s safety when he said:

Yes, I can confirm that several people clad in expensive suits have visited the minors’ place of residence looking for them and threatening to take revenge for the slain soldier.

The children were living in fear for their lives so we had to take them. Right now I cannot tell you the exact place we are keeping them because we are shifting them from one safe house to another around the country.

We remain baffled as to why men of such calibre had to hunt down minors.

The children allegedly killed Aaron Bhasopayi of One Commando Regiment as they were defending their mother who was being assaulted by Bhasopayi. Bhasopoyi was accusing the minor children’s mother as he was accusing her of touching his parent’s home in Masvingo.

ZPP Condemns MDC T Violence Against Khupe

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Peace Projects (ZPP) has condemned the violence that occurred at the MDC T’s chaotic congress on Sunday and urged the party to not emulate the government’s violent tendencies.

Using the microblogging site Twitter ZPP said:

The Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) condemns in the strongest terms, the violence that occurred at the MDC-T Extra-Ordinary Congress in Harare on 27 December 2020.

In some of the scenes of violence, some of the congress delegates can be seen physically and verbally assaulting one of the MDC-T presidential contestants @DrThoko_Khupe & her supporters in what is a deliberate and open attack on women’s participation in politics as a whole.

ZPP is concerned about the growing pattern where women are physically and verbally assaulted, and called all sorts of derogatory names for being participants and activists in politics and if not nipped, this threatens women’s participation in all leadership positions.

ZPP believes peaceful political contestation – as espoused in our Constitution – is the only progressive way to ensuring everyone, regardless of sex, ethnicity, tribe, and age, get their fair chances to use their Constitutionally guaranteed rights to participate in politics.

We also believe that as an opposition party, the MDC-T’s role is to hold to account the ruling party and government, and they should therefore not mirror the same violent tendencies.

While we cannot dictate how political parties – as voluntary organisations – conduct their business, we strongly condemn the use of violence, as this only serves to perpetuate a culture of intolerance. Intolerance has no place in a country that is supposed to be a democracy.

At the congress in question, Thokozani Khupe was escorted out of the election center, and a video of someone smacking her as she exits the auditorium circulated.

Warriors Struggle To Secure Passports

By A Correspondent- The Warriors technical team is battling to secure passports for midfielder Denver Mukamba and striker Tawanda Nyamandwe ahead of the African Nations Championships (Chan) finals scheduled for Cameroon in just over two weeks.

Team manager Wellington Mupandare yesterday said the duo did not have travelling documents and they were racing against time to secure them.

Chan tournament, which is exclusively reserved for players plying their trades in their domestic leagues, start on January 16, but the final squad has to be submitted to the Confederation of African Football before Wednesday next week.

Mupandare said he had already applied for Mukamba’s passport and was praying that it would be issued this week.

He said Nyamandwe’s application would be submitted this week.

“We have already applied for Denver’s passport and we expect to receive it anytime this week,” Mupandare said.

Currently, there are some challenges in getting passports timeously as the Register-General’s Office is facing a huge backlog due to inadequate foreign currency to purchase passport consumables.

However, those travelling on national duty receive preferential treatment and Mupandare is hoping that the two will get the passports.

The duo is part of the 23-man squad that resumed training yesterday ahead of the finals.

The training squad was given a seven-day break last week for the Christmas holiday.

Mupandare said barring any eventualities, the players that have been called up should make the final list that will represent Zimbabwe at the Chan tournament.

Warriors head coach Zdravko Logarušic trimmed his squad ahead of the final phase of preparations where the team is expected to play two friendly matches against local teams before departure for Yaoundé.

Apart from Nyamandwe, Logarušic also made a surprise inclusion to his squad when he recalled goalkeeper Simba Chinani, who he had initially dropped from the squad last week.

King Nadolo, who had been doubtful for the tournament due to injury, has been included. Mupandare said he had started light training.

Other players, who are carrying knocks, but have been included are Peter Muduwa, Richard Hachiro and Leeroy Mavhunga. They are expected to be fit by the time the tournament starts.

Logarušic initially called 34 players in camp, but has been chopping and changing the squad after playing friendly matches against local sides.

High Court Defers Mafume Bail Hearing

By A Correspondent- The High Court has deferred Harare mayor Jacob Mafume’s bail hearing to today to allow the State to prepare its response.

Mafume is facing allegations of obstructing or defeating the course of justice after he allegedly attempted to bribe a witness.

He was arrested for the offence four days after he had been released on $30 000 bail at the High Court.  As part of the bail conditions, Mafume was ordered not to interfere with witnesses.

Mafume allegedly offered to pay US$1 500 to Edgar Dzehonye, a key witness in the case in which he is being accused of parcelling out land, so that he testifies in his favour in court.

The State alleges that Mafume violated his bail conditions and contacted Dzehonye, through a WhatsApp voice call, requesting to meet him and discuss his criminal case before the courts.

Meanwhile, Local Government minister July Moyo has reportedly suspended Jacob Mafume and his deputy Luckson Mukunguma with immediate effect until the conclusion of their court cases.

Mukunguma is currently out on bail after he was arrested following a manhunt by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc).

Zacc is investigating cases of alleged abuse of office.

It is alleged that he abused his office when he forced council to create and allocate four residential stands to his relatives namely Juliet Tipedze, Melody Magorimbo, Edith Chiota and Kerrington Ndimba in Highfields, ward five.

Byo Records Increased Diarrhoea Cases

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo is recording an increase in diarrhoea cases, which is blamed on water shortages and contaminated water among other reasons as city fathers expressed fear of a typhoid outbreak.

Since March, confirmed diarrhoea cases have killed 13 in Luveve and surrounding suburbs, and infected hundreds of people in other suburbs.

While the city is battling water shortage after authorities decommissioned three supply dams, ageing water and sewage reticulation infrastructure is piling more woes as seen by incessant pipe bursts, resulting in contamination of potable water and residents getting ill.

Bulawayo City Council has announced that diarrhoea cases will be treated for free at its clinics.

A council report on health, housing and education showed that city fathers were worried about the diarrhoea outbreak.

“The province continued to roll out intensified emergency response mechanisms for all pillars to detect, contain, monitor, predict and manage the coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19) and gastro-intestinal diseases (GIT) outbreaks which continued to evolve,” the council report read in part.

“The perennial water shortages in the province had resulted in a sharp increase in diarrhoea cases as communities resort to alternative water sources which may be of unsafe quality.”

According to the report, Nkulumane, Maqhawe, Nketa, Entumbane, Magwegwe and Mzilikazi are cited as the city’s diarrhoea hotspots.

“There was a need to strengthen implementation of protective factors against contracting diarrhoea. Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), contact tracing, active case finding as well as health education, intensified shop inspections were some of the activities. The diarrhoea case investigations had continued aimed at containing a possible outbreak and to establish the aetiological agent(s),” the council report read.

“Bulawayo was on high alert for typhoid as it was endemic in some neighbouring cities.”

Typhoid is endemic in Harare. In 2019, Zimbabwe became the first African country to benefit from the World Health Organisation (WHO) funded mass Typbar-typhoid vaccination programme.

The WHO recommends the introduction of the Typbar-typhoid conjugate vaccine to be prioritised in countries with the highest burden of typhoid disease or a high burden of an antimicrobial-resistant strain.

Zimbabwe meets the two criteria.

In addition to the seasonal outbreak, the country has been experiencing a high level of resistance to the standard first line antibiotic treatment against typhoid.

“Khupe Led MDC T Heading For A Split”

Laque Davis has opined that the appointment of Nelson Chamisa to be the party’s Vice President in 2016 was a necessary evil given what he called the junta’s project to decimate the MDC.

Below is the full thread by Laque who also opined that there is a chance the Khupe led MDC T will split:

This is quite sad In the context of how @mdczimbabwe was decimated through this junta project, all in the name of #democracy#constitutionalism & #protecting the legacy of MT, who simply should be allowed to rest peacefully for he has no more role in the land of the living

If the end has ever justified the means, then the “illegality” of appointing @nelsonchamisa as VP & heir apparent, (with Mudzuri as some buffer) was a necessary evil.

With all his well-documented misgivings, Nero leads the only significant, authentic & united MDC faction. I bullishly put my head on the chopping board through the prediction attached below

Argued:

  1. a) the MDC-T EOC wasn’t likely to be held this year
  2. b) it would be chaotic in the event that it was

Even sarcastically threatened to post my nudes (@M_Jay94)

Interestingly, an excitable @DMwonzora early on exonerated @mdczimbabwe  by thanking them for distancing themselves from the HICC event

What this then means is that all the chaos that ensued can not be linked to @nelsonchamisa, as per Douglas’s poor chance at a jibe.

As for Dr Khupe…although she will most certainly have the last laugh…she miscalculated gravely. Many moons ago, I questioned the wisdom behind abandoning her own MDC-T faction, choosing to side with the double trouble that is Mwonzora & Komichi. She dug her own grave

But more importantly, before about an hour ago, she was going out of her way rubbishing claims that money was misappropriated, more so by Tsikamutanda. In an embarrassing somersault, she thundered “…they are using the money they stole to rig this election..”What money now

She openly pointed fingers at DM, accusing him of masterminding the heist she claims transpired this evening. But perhaps she was keeping this as her joker card.More so after phoning the wrong @adv_fulcrum. What business does ED’s Tabani have with her & her party Congress?

Here is what’s likely to happen. Mwonzora was poised to win this shambolic poll. DM’s backers will politically resist attempts to have it nullified. Dr Khupe will successfully have this result set aside. DM’s faction will start experiencing the wrath of State systems….

The MDC-T will split. Before this formally happens, the allegations against DM will resurface The results will be successfully nullified & Mwonzora will be arrested & suspended, both for “the rigging” & the alleged stolen funds. Khupe will eventually win at some 2021 EOC

I paused a bit and refreshed my twitter feed. Apparently,Dr Khupe has already “suspended Mwonzora”…& she has the backing of Baba Abrahama. Sekuru Mudzuri left HICC much earlier

So it’s now Zanu-Khupe-Komichi-Mudzuri vs Mwonzora. The latter’s backers should be very worried.

Again, Sr Khupe has promised to pursue the issue concerning the stolen money. She will do this with a straight face regardless of how she exonerated Mwonzora earlier today. It doesn’t matter whether she has any case or not It’s politics & her victory matters to the State.

It is also quite ironic, that the same @ShakespeareMuk1 who DM & Khupe accused of attempting to burn them in a hut, at the instigation of @nelsonchamisa (never mind that no report was made), was again at the center of MDC-T skirmishes today. Indeed a festive of absurdities.

Has @nelsonchamisa been vindicated? Whose violent mobs were calling Dr Khupe “hure”?

I’m not in any party structures 2 play petty party politics as I tweet these boring threads,I don’t feel smart Can you claim to be wise for predicting mud after some heavy rains? enkosi!

Douglas Mwonzora won the party Presidency against Khupe yesterday and both parties have not issued a statement on the way forward.

“President Chamisa Has Vision To Lead Nation To Prosperity”

Elias Mudzuri

By A Correspondent | As ZimEye brings the most up to date 100% verified LIVE coverage of the goings on in the MDC-T party camp, we interview one of the contestants for the MDC-T Presidency, Elias Mudzuri who announces that he has blocked Dr Thokozani Khupe from holding her press conference at his house this morning.

The development comes half a day after the Zimbabwe Republic Police yesterday disrupted Khupe’s earlier press conference scheduled for 5pm leading to it being cancelled. Eng Mudzuri also speaks on this cancellation.

In explanations for blocking Ms Khupe, Mudzuri says he is concerned about security threats against his family.

“I am being threatened here and there and I don’t want people at my house,” he says.

People should be aware of these problems so that they can take necessary precautions during this season. The most common illness is related to respiratory system and water and food borne diseases cannot be overlooked.

Cold and flu are common illness that is found in rainy season and this is usually due to fluctuation in the temperature. If you are a student, a working citizen or a mom, you need to protect yourself from these illnesses and prevent from getting sick.

When rain starts pouring in, you first look for a shelter and try to save yourself from getting drenched. However, a shelter can save you from getting wet in rain but it will not protect you from catching any kind of infection. This is especially when your immune system is very low.

Common Illness caused During Rainy Season

Dengue
Cold
Flu
Food infection
Water infection
Cholera

Leptospirosos is caused by bacteria that can be carried either by a human or some animal. Its severe form can damage kidney, liver, meningitis and respiratory failure.

Precautions During Rainy Season

Keep Rain Gear With you Always – The most effective thing that you can do is to keep your rain gear always ready when you go out in rainy season. A raincoat with hooded jacket and waterproof shoes are the best items.

Vitamin C – Increasing the intake of Vitamin C either in natural form or as food supplement will help you drive away the cold virus faster. It is still a matter of debate among doctors whether Vitamin C is cure for cold. However, a healthy supply of this vitamin will activate your antibodies and reduce the severity of cold, undoubtedly.

Shower After Being Caught in Rain – Although it sounds very unusual because if you are drenched in rain, you will never want to take another shower. But taking a shower after you have been caught in rain will protect you from many infections.

Hot Drinks – After you come back home caught in a rain, take a shower, dry yourself and wear dry and clean clothes. The best thing is to make a hot soup for yourself or at least drink a cup of hot milk. This will help you from catching cold or save you from catching any kind of infection that can occur due to sudden change in the temperature of the body.

Cleanliness – Cleanliness is very important during rainy season. Even if you catch a cold, you should clean your hands regularly and use a sanitizer always after that.

Drink Plenty of Water – Water intake may reduce naturally because of the sudden drop in the temperature of the environment. It is good to drink plenty of water and do not wait to get thirsty to drink water. This will help you drain toxins from your body.

Watch your Intake – Try to eat nutritious food and avoid eating out during rainy season. Prepare meal with full precaution and maintain health and hygiene throughout the house.

It is very important to keep yourself protected during the rainy season because you can catch infection frequently. It is always better to take precautions and be prepared whenever you go out of your home

DZIVARASEKWA CONSTITUENCY 2020 END OF YEAR ADDRESS

Greetings to the residents, stakeholders and stockholders of the great Constituency of Dzivaresekwa.

BACKGROUND
2020 was a very difficult year for Zimbabwe due to the harsh economic, social and political environment. The economic meltdown has been felt both at constituency and at family level and this was worsened by the lockdown due to the COVID-19 Epidemic. At a community level, our pride as residents of the capital city of Zimbabwe has been shaken as we have water crisis and other crises that are not supposed to be found in an urban constituency.
The promised Covid-19 allowances that were meant to mitigate effects on the epidemic to vulnerable groups and informal traders did not come as the Government decided to treat Urban residents especially Harare and Bulawayo as second-class citizens. The rice that was donated to Zimbabwe to assist vulnerable groups was given to rural constituencies and denied to vulnerable groups in Harare and Bulawayo.
The political landscape has also not been favorable for we witnessed an open onslaught and assault on the MDC Alliance party resulting in more than 30 Members of Parliament and more than 150 Councilors of the party being recalled by a party whose candidates they defeated at the 2018 elections. As Dzivaresekwa constituency we were not spared for we lost both our councilors [Gilbert. T Hadebe of ward 39 & Stephen Dhliwayo of ward 40] who were recalled by Thokozani Khupe led MDCT.

CONSTITUENCY DEVELOPMENT
In spite of the challenges of 2020, we advise of the following developments that together as a constituency managed to achieve with the little resources at our disposal.

WATER AND SANITARY

  1. We started 2020 by handing over to the community the new boreholes that had been drilled at the end of 2019 to Yamurai Primary School, Marwede community, Nehanda Community, Hwata circle in Dzivarasekwa 1 as well as resuscitation of an old farm borehole at Marwede site offices.
  2. With the assistance from Oxfam and other development partners, we solar powered Gunhill’s 10th street borehole in Dzivaresekwa 1 as well as ring fencing it.
  3. With the assistance of Mvuramanzi Trust we drilled and installed solar powered borehole at RCZ church/ Gombo to service RCZ Church, Gombo school and residents in Muzikanwi street and Sungayi Street.
  4. Installation of piped water taps at Dzivaresekwa 2 shops.
  5. We managed to retrieve Borehole repair equipment which were being privatized and placed it under City of Harare department of Works so that they do quarterly Borehole routine service and ordinary repair of our boreholes in Dzivaresekwa constituency.
  6. Established Water Point Committees at each borehole with the aim of maintaining and managing the boreholes.
  7. Storm water drainage clearance in the two wards of DZ.
  8. Attended to sewer blocking in both wards.

EDUCATION

  1. Sourced thousands of bricks and building materials for construction of an Administration and Classroom Blocks at Yamurai Primary School which was given a fully-fledged status as a Primary School this year after several years as a satellite of Gombo Primary School in mainland Dzivaresekwa.
  2. Assisted in the opening of Glaudina Primary School albeit temporarily being run by the community with plans at an advanced stage to have it run as a formal school with Government Teachers in 2021.
  3. Discussions with Roman Catholic Church to build a public Dzivaresekwa Extension Secondary School which were affected by COVID-19 are in progress. Parallel to the Roman Catholic initiative we are engaging the Government through the Public Sector Investment Programmes [PSIP] to provide funding for the construction of the secondary school. It is our view that school children in Dzivaresekwa Extension should not travel across the river seeking affordable Government or Council schools.
  4. We identified and together with Ministry of Local Government are working to reclaim land which were meant for public schools in Extension and Nehanda area which was illegally converted to residential or private schools. Dzivaresekwa Extension being an urban set up should have a public primary school for every 500 household

HEALTH

  1. Rujeko Clinic which was closed due to Covid-19 and the incapacitation of our healthy workers was reopened at the end of the year and is now operational.
  2. We managed to rehabilitate the Rujeko Polyclinic Incinerator which was emitting gases and was disturbing the people in Rujeko and Pasipanodya as well as surrounding areas.
  3. The Septic tank at Dzivaresekwa poly clinic was drained and there was facilitation of provision of piped water in the maternity wing at the clinic.
  4. We managed to get a commitment from the Harare City Health department to convert an old Farm house in Glaudina to a polyclinic so that the people in Glaudina and nearby areas get access to health services.

INFRASTRUCTURE

  1. The Link road between Dzivaresekwa and Dzivaresekwa Extension still remains outstanding due to bureaucratic challenges with the Ministry of Local Government.
  2. Design work on the construction of footpath between DZ 3 and Glaudina/Phase 2 was completed and the construction will be done in 2021.
  3. To reduce accidents and fatalities among pedestrians crossing Bulawayo road we have asked the relevant Ministry to install robots or construct a roundabout at Whitehouse.

PARLIAMENTARY WORK
Dzivaresekwa Constituency MP Edwin Mushoriwa has managed to raise smart solutions to pertinent socio-economic issues in Parliament on matters that affect Dzivaresekwa constituency and the country at large. He also is an active member of three portfolio committees of Parliament namely Public Accounts, Budget and Finance as well as that of Industry and Commerce. He has debated Bills and posed smart questions as well as proffer amendments to Bills and has moved smart motions such as:
• The need to devolve the collection of vehicles license fees from ZINARA to local authorities such as City of Harare so that our roads in Dzivaresekwa are fixed. Vehicle licenses are being collected by ZINARA yet there is little money being poured into servicing of our roads.
• Moved a notice of motion that the Government allocates at least 2% of the national budget towards renewal of old suburbs such as Dzivaresekwa since the infrastructure no longer has capacity to sustain the increased population.
2021 OUTLOOK
The resurgence of COVID-19 epidermic coupled with the unpredictable weather pattern is a dark cloud hanging over Zimbabwe. This is made worse by lack of proper planning and policy inconsistency by the Government which means Zimbabwe will continue to face a bleak future unless urgent steps are taken to reverse the negative trend. It is our view that the problem in Zimbabwe is a political legitimacy crisis whose genesis is the disputed elections and manifests itself in the economic challenges.
As your elected representative both in Parliament and City of Harare we will continue to engage you to bring development in our various neighborhoods, wards and the constituency in these trying times. We will continue to enhance transparency and accountability in the little resources that we manage such as Constituency Development Fund.
We don’t take lightly the trust that you bestowed on us for the period 2018-2023 and we are forever indebted to you. We will continue to be exemplary ambassadors and servants of Dzivaresekwa Constituency.
We wish you a better and prosperous 2021.

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER.

Police Rescue Tormented Man

By A Correspondent- Police in Bulawayo rescued a man who feared for his life at the hands of his wife by confiscating an axe that she was threatening to use on him for wanting out of their marriage.

This came to light at the Bulawayo Civil Court where Faith Ncube was seeking a protection order against her husband Robson Mbasera.

Ncube claimed her husband was verbally and physically harassing her and their children.

“I am applying for a protection order against my husband because he is abusive. He verbally abuses me together with the children. He also physically abuses me and tells our children that he is not their father and that I’m having an affair with a police officer.

“We are currently on separation and whenever he comes to where I am staying and finds a male visitor, he alleges that he is my boyfriend. When he also comes, usually around midnight he enters the house through the window and threatens to kill me saying my mother will collect my corpse at the mortuary,” complained Ncube.

She said Mbasera was also in the habit of shouting at her sisters, labelling them prostitutes.

“He tells me that he hates me and my family. He also shouts at my sisters saying they are prostitutes and that is why they are not married. He also annoys me by saying since I’m disabled he wants to marry another wife and start a new life,” she said.

In his counter argument, Mbasera refuted all the allegations as fabrications. He said he was the one who was living in perpetual fear after his wife threatened to axe him.

“I am opposed to her application. Firstly, what happened is that where she stays is my workplace. I am a caretaker there. She has two sisters who came to stay with us and their children. That is when we started having a conflict and I left to look for another place.

“In fact, she is the one who is violent she once threatened to axe and stab me with a knife. The axe was taken by the police and is being kept at the Bulawayo Central Police Station. The police even counselled us so that we live amicably and that is when she asked for forgiveness and promised not to do it again,” said Mbasera.

Presiding magistrate Nomasiko Ndlovu ordered both parties to keep peace by not verbally and physically abusing each other.

Ncube was also ordered not to deny her husband access to the house.-statemedia

Former Bosso Midfielder Dies

On a sad note, we announce that former Warriors and Highlanders midfield ace Richard Choruma has breathed his last.

Details on the passing away for Choruma, who at the time of his death was based in South Africa, are still sketchy.

He was 42.

Bosso spokesperson Ronald Moyo confirmed Choruma’s death.

“Waking up to the sad news of passing on of Richard Choruma, one of the finest midfielders Bosso has ever had in recent memory. RIP maestro, the Dabuka Express. You will be forever cherished and remembered,” he wrote on Twitter.-Soccer 24

KHUPE WINS AN AWARD FOR A “KATEGOTIKARI” LOSER | MAVAZA

Thokozani Khupe

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | In a bizarre move characteristic of child play, Thokozani Khupe becomes referee in a contest where she is a player. While the practices of the MDC(s) provide Zimbabwe with a comedy to cheer the nation during the scares of Covid 19, it appears their love for escalating-myrth is unsatiated.

The long-awaited extraordinary congress that had became a perennial postponement game, was finally held on 27th Dec 2020. Many commentators hailed it as the big political event that would position MDC-T for the right footing as the nation starts gearing for 2023. The media of all makes were beaming from the Harare International Conference Centre. Surprisingly, the outcome of the election is not the high point. The news filtering through that Douglas Mwonzora was the overwhelming choice for the delegates became secondary as madame Khupe took centre stage in demonstrating the folly of her inability to say categorically by persistently stating “kategotikari”. Many who thought it was a joke should understand that this is the typical “kategotikari”.
Of cause now she responds to her loss in an election by “kategotikari” suspending the winner from the party. To every sane person prior to any election all positions being contested become vacant. In this case the contest was for a contest to replace the late Morgan Richard Tsvangirai as the president of MDC-T. The political immaturity demonstrated by madame Khupe smacks of power intoxication like his sworn enemy, one Nelson Chamisa. It appears MDC (s) is alien to political stability. It must be noted that madame Khupe became a thornm in the flesh for the late iconic leader of the original MDC. When the nation sympathised with her for the ruthless treatment she suffered on the hands of the male chauvinist Nelson Chamisa, it tends out she is equally diabolic in her politic antics. Suddenly, she now parades a charge sheet for embezzlement of funds and rigging justifying the suspension. The question is, “Would she suspend DM if she was the winner?”. Where is she deriving the powers to suspend. Remember she is simply a losing candidate who used to be acting president. If madame Khupe had advisers, it was sensible to seek an internal meeting than rush to announce to the world a half-baked truth of someone mourning her loss as a bad loser. add a comment

“Bad loser” does indeed mean the same as “sore loser”, but I’d suggest that the former is more common in the UK, whereas the latter is more common in the US.
Madam Thokozani Khupe fits the definitions of both words. There is a slight shade of difference between the two: “bad loser” describes a character trait, whereas “sore loser” more often describes the way someone is currently behaving. After losing the elections Khupe went cuckoo. Like a subtler version of the difference between being bad-tempered and being angry.
“Sore loser” is a more common idiom to describe someone who acts badly when they don’t win. But “bad loser” can also be used to describe this, and is transparent in meaning. Being “sore” is a symptom of being poor at, bad at, ungraceful at, losing. It describes the resulting condition rather than the ability. “Bad” is certainly common.
One who fails to accept losing is contrary to democratic expectations. With one who is actually intending to become the president of the nation being the commander in chief of bad losers the future of democracy is in the sling to be sent in total abyss.
The behaviour of Khupe in being a
Sore loser means that our opposition is cursed. It goes with no doubt that the democratic space has been polluted by those who prophesy to be the prophets of hope.
Elections must not only be acceptable when you lose. The behaviour of the MDC T is a more common expression of a bad loser.
MDC T’s behaviour would only make sense if they were competing with the other parties but in this instance they were competing against themselves.
Khupe has shown a poor quality and a low standard of political reasoning.
Khupe is extremely; severely painful or aching wrong part in the political body.
Khupe’s chaotic congress was marred with allegations of election fraud and violence. The interim MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe was escorted out and claimed Mwonzora embezzled money from the party and used it to rig elections. Why did she chose to make the complaint at this hour exposes a person who has lost and is not happy to lose.
Obert Gutu who left the Khupe party early this year due to undisclosed reasons said he made the right decision and described the congress as a charade. He castigated Khupe and called her a power hungry confused person who must be kept as far away from power as possible. Gutu said,
“I surely made the CORRECT decision. There was NO way I was going to continue to be part and parcel of this charade. It’s certainly beyond my personal dignity.”

Since his departure from the party, Gutu has made sensational claims like he has what it takes to be the MDC-T President, and he regrets calling for sanctions and questioning Khupe’s intelligence and morality.

Govt To Assist Mutoko Horror Crash Families

By A Correspondent- The government of Zimbabwe will pay for the funeral expenses of the 18 people who perished in a horror crash on Sunday.

The horror crash claimed the lives of 8 members of the Rutsito family, and 7 family members from the Chitimbe family who were all traveling for the holidays when their cars collided close to Mutoko Business Center.

The government through the Department of Civil Protection Director Mr. Nathan Nkomo said the government will meet all hospital bills and funeral expenses:

For those with funeral policies, Government will assist with $2 500 per head and for those without funeral policies, Government will avail coffins and transport. To those who are currently hospitalised, Government will assist by meeting all the medical bills.

A family member of the Rutsito Family expressed sadness over the tragedy and said: We are pained by this unexpected death which took away eight people from our family. Masimba Rutsito was my brother and was aged 39. He and his family had come home to visit from Harare. On their way back, that is when they met their fate.

He was driving the Isuzu double cab and in the car were 12 people who included his wife Audrey Mavhunga, his children Malcom, Naishe and Makomborero. Also in the car was our uncle, Simbarashe Mapuranga and his wife Grace Madzinga together with their child, Samuel. All these perished in the accident.

Those who were injured are Kupakwashe and Maxwell Rutsito, Patricia Mapuranga and one Gamuchirai who was a maid to Masimba’s family.T hey have been transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and they are critical. They need our prayers. We are in great pain.

The Chitimbe family lost Abigail Chitimbe (30), Nyasha Chikuza (7), Tawananyasha, Major Mushumbi (7), Sandra Kanobata (19) and Ngaakudzwe Nkolomah (1) according to the family spokesperson Mr Richard Chitimbe who said:

My sister Abigail and her two children Nyasha and Tawananyasha had visited a relative in Tabudirira, a few kilometers from here. She took with her, three of my elder sister’s children Major, Sandra and Ngaakudzwe.

On their way back, they were given a lift in a BMW vehicle which had a head on collision with an Isuzu vehicle. They all died. The family is in pain. We were looking forward to seeing them here yesterday, only to receive the bad news.

We will bury them tomorrow (today). We are appealing for any kind of assistance from well wishers to help in conducting burial of our family members.-statemedia

Daniel Shumba On Mafume Suspension | FULL THREAD.

Daniel Shumba

By Daniel Shumba | This has always been the regime’s script. Unless we focus on the alternative thinking and strategically outmanoeuvre Zanu PF by having issues based teams. Economy, Constitutionalism, Reforms, Rule of Law and Corruption.

Thuggery, gangster culture, immaturity, lack of values, lack of mutuality (Chete Chete) and violence. These have continually been exploited by this and the previous regimes. Not one political party can exclusively entitle itself as the Opposition. So mutual respect is crucial.

20 yrs on, something must give. How to mitigate against the real fears of the regime (power, criminality & state capture). These are core to the regime’s determination to grab & stay in power. Unfortunately the opportunists continue to mess up & are cheered on. Pot & Kettle.

How should a nation trust those who fight the Workers in courts, Say coup wasn’t a coup, that go to court to procure corrupt judgements sanitizing the Coup, those who themselves are criminals & are really after raping the same people the regime has been raping repeatedly.

You believe the nation will be safe in the hands of those who can’t respect their own constitution? How different are they from this brutal regime? What reforms did they champion during the Unity gvt? Which unconstitutional law did they repeal? Most were jokers in Parliament.

Was in Zanu PF from 2003 – 2005 & 2010 – 2018. I fought for constitutionalism, human rights, anti-corruption, voted with the MDC against 1st Constitutional Amendment. Was arrested, assets expropriated & escaped abduction.

So don’t provoke me with your pants down. Silly.

Horror Accident In Mutoko

State  Media – Govt will meet funeral expenses for 18 people who died in a horrific road accident near Mutoko Business Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Eight members of the Rutsito family, seven from the Chitimbe family and three people, who are still to be identified, perished in the accident.

Both families are from Mutoko and were travelling on holiday.

The accident occurred at the 130km peg along the Harare-Nyamapanda highway when a white Isuzu KB double cab truck belonging to the Rutsito family and travelling towards Murehwa, collided head-on with a BMW in which the Chitimbe family had boarded a lift that was travelling towards Mutoko.

Fourteen people died on the spot, while the remainder succumbed to their injuries on admission to Mutoko Hospital.

The director in the Department of Civil Protection Mr Nathan Nkomo said the Government will assist in the burial of the deceased.

“For those with funeral policies, Government will assist with $2 500 per head and for those without funeral policies, Government will avail coffins and transport.

“To those who are currently hospitalised, Government will assist by meeting all the medical bills,” he said.

When The Herald arrived at the scene, wreckages of both vehicles were still present.

Passing motorists would stop to catch a glimpse of the mangled vehicles.

A member of the Rutsito family in Mutoko, Mr Munyaradzi Kabasa, confirmed that eight members of his family died in the crash.

“We are pained by this unexpected death which took away eight people from our family. Masimba Rutsito was my brother and was aged 39. He and his family had come home to visit from Harare. On their way back, that is when they met their fate.

“He was driving the Isuzu double cab and in the car were 12 people who included his wife Audrey Mavhunga, his children — Malcom, Naishe and Makomborero. Also in the car was our uncle, Simbarashe Mapuranga and his wife Grace Madzinga together with their child, Samuel. All these perished in the accident.

“Those who were injured are Kupakwashe and Maxwell Rutsito, Patricia Mapuranga and one Gamuchirai who was a maid to Masimba’s family.

“They have been transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and they are critical. They need our prayers. We are in great pain.”

He said the family was yet to deliberate on the burial arrangements.

The Herald also managed to track down the Chitimbe family who also live in Mutoko District.

Dozens of mourners were already gathered at the Chitimbe homestead.

The Chitimbe family lost six members — Abigail Chitimbe (30), Nyasha Chikuza (7), Tawananyasha, Major Mushumbi (7), Sandra Kanobata (19)and Ngaakudzwe Nkolomah (1).

Chitimbe family spokesperson Mr Richard Chitimbe said they have already finished burial arrangements.

“My sister Abigail and her two children Nyasha and Tawananyasha had visited a relative in Tabudirira, a few kilometers from here. She took with her, three of my elder sister’s children Major, Sandra and Ngaakudzwe.

“On their way back, they were given a lift in a BMW vehicle which had a head on collision with an Isuzu vehicle. They all died. The family is in pain. We were looking forward to seeing them here yesterday, only to receive the bad news.

“We will bury them tomorrow (today). We are appealing for any kind of assistance from well wishers to help in conducting burial of our family members,” said Mr Chitimbe in tears.

The Mashonaland East Department of Civil Protection yesterday requested the Government to declare the accident, a national disaster.

Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Aplonia Munzverengwi, sent a message of condolence to the families of the deceased and wished the injured, a speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, one person died while 10 others were injured when a Inter Africa bus plying the Harare-Mutare road veered off the road at the 100 km peg along Harare-Mutare road.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident in a statement.

“The ZRP is investigating the circumstances which led to the death of a woman aged 44 years old and injury to other 10 passengers when an Inter Africa Bus (Mukumba Brothers) travelling from Harare to Mutare veered off the road at the 100 km peg along Harare-Mutare Road, Macheke on December 28, 2020. The driver failed to control the bus and it landed on the right side. The victim was then trapped.” – Herald

After 40years Of Rigged Elections Being Bamboozled Into Another Guise Rehashed “Big Tent”

By Nomusa Garikai: “Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume has warned squabbling colleagues in the opposition that they risk receiving a heavy drubbing by Zanu PF in 2023 unless they heal their rifts,” reported Daily News on Sunday in an article, ‘Heavy shellacking awaits Zimbabwe’s brawling opposition’.

Here we go again; the Zimbabwe public are once again being brainwashed into believing the opposition will win the 2023 elections if only they are united. All nonsense, of course, because Zanu PF has always rigged the elections to enjoy a landslide victory with or without a united and strong opposition!

Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC-T talked the two MDC factions led by Professor Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti plus three other parties including Jacob Ngarivhume’s Transform Zimbabwe to join him in the “big tent”, as he called it, to form a coalition, MDC Alliance (MDC A). Judging by the size of the crowds attending MDC A rallies the coalition should have won the July 2018 elections. Zanu PF won with a landslide, history was repeating itself.

Zanu PF won the 2013 elections by blatantly rigging the plebiscite. Tsvangirai and MDC-T friends resolved at the 2014 party congress not to participate in future elections until the reforms to stop the rigging have been implemented. “No reforms! No elections!” Many other opposition parties followed suit in making similar commitments.

Frankly, the 2014 resolution not to participate in elections without reforms was just a farce because Tsvangirai et al were the ones who had failed to implement even one reforms during the five years of 2008 to 2013 GNU.

SADC leaders warned the MDC leaders not to take part in the 2013 elections without first implementing the reforms but, as we know, were ignored.

It therefore came as little surprise that the opposition camp ignored the “No reform! No elections!” resolution to participate in the 2018 elections.

If the truth be told, Tsvangirai and company had failed to implement even one reform during the GNU because they “were busy enjoying themselves and forgot why they were there”, as one SADC diplomat remarked in sheer exasperation.

Zanu PF offered a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate in the 2013 and then 2018 elections; a honey pot trap MDC leaders once again found irresistible.

“MDC A has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” was Nelson Chamisa’s feeble excuse for participating in the 2018 elections with no reforms.

MDC A should and would have won the July 2018 elections if the elections had been free, fair and credible; we all know that and so does Jacob Ngarivhume.

After 40 years of Zanu PF rigging elections it is really insane to continue this madness of the nation being dragged into flawed and illegal elections by corrupt, incompetent and selfish opposition opportunists who have eyes for one thing and one only – power, the honey pot trap.

Jacob Ngarivhume, Tendai Biti, Job Sikhala and the rest in the opposition camp are all gearing for the 2023 elections oblivious of the fact not even one reform was implemented. Indeed, the opposition are making it appear the reforms are unnecessarily all they need is a united front.

Zimbabwe is in this economic and political hell-on-earth precisely because the country has failed to hold free, fair and credible elections for the last 40 years. We must keep our eyes on the big prize, implementing the democratic reforms is the only sure way to finally end this curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

The rehashed “big tent” uniting the opposition is a distraction; it failed to deliver free and fair elections in the past and it will not do so in 2023!

“Say Sorry Over Khupe Linked Advert”: Mambos Chicken Told

Dewa Mavhinga, the director of Human Rights Watch, Southern Africa says Mambo’s Chicken have taken it too far by joking over the alleged assault on former MDC-T interim leader, Thokozani Khupe at the party’s congress held Sunday.

It is alleged that Khupe was slapped by one of Douglas Mwonzora’s supporters as she tried to stop or influence the cancellation of the congress which she said was being rigged in Mwonzora’s favour.

Mambo’s Chicken made an advert which made fun of the incident.

Said Mambo’s Chicken:

Huyai tikupei Huku. Monday Blues don’t have to SLAP so hard

Mambos chicken advert

In response to the advert, Mavinga said:

Mambo’s Chicken @mamboschicken must not joke about violence against Madam Khupe. Stop #GBV. Not funny! Say Sorry!

Some, however, alleged that Khupe likely staged the slap while some said it was not gender-based violence but political violence.

As the congress degenerated into chaos, Khupe and other presidential contestants left the HICC auditorium where the elective congress was being held.

The party’s Independent Electoral Management Body eventually announced that Mwonzora had a landslide victory after polling 883 votes out of a declared 1 027 total ballots issued.

ED Appeals For Divine Intervention On New Covid-19 Strain

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday appealed for divine intervention to protect the country against a new COVID-19 strain that has been confirmed in some countries, including neighbouring South Africa.

Mnangagwa said this in his address during the annual December Thanksgiving and Dedication Service, now in its fourth edition, which was held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo.

South Africa recently recorded a new COVID-19 variant, known as 501.V2, which is blamed for a resurgence in infections, hospitalisations and deaths.  Another COVID-19 strain, known as P681H was reported in Nigeria last week.

Countries such as Germany, Israel, Turkey, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia have since suspended flights from South Africa, which is the hardest hit nation on the African continent with nearly one million infections to prevent new infections in their countries.

“We must equally redouble our prayers as this pandemic is on the resurgence, and we must seek God’s protection as a nation,” Mnangagwa said.

“While the rest of the region, the continent and the world suffered heavily, I believe that our God whom we praise as a nation protected us to date,” he added as he quoted Psalms, 124, verses 1-4 to buttress his point.

The thanksgiving event, which was organised by the Faith for the Nation Campaign, a grouping of various church denominations founded in 2000, was held under the theme “Celebrating the Nation’s Progress towards Vision 2030”.

The inaugural 2017 edition was marred by mini anti-Mnangagwa protests organised by the Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) over his role in the Gukurahundi massacres but they were in no-show this time.

“While we continue to fast and pray for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic as it requires a spiritual and humble petition for God’s protection, I urge us all to comply with guidelines by my government guided by the World Health Organisation (WHO),” Mnangagwa said.

As at Friday last week, Zimbabwe had recorded 12 963 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 519 recoveries and 341 deaths. Health experts have called on authorities to close the borders to prevent the spread of the new COVID-19 variant citing the country’s teetering health delivery sector where basic drugs and medicines are in short supply.

Meanwhile, Mnangagwa also seemed to suggest the need for urgency by the Southern African and Development Community (Sadc) leaders and the African Union to fight the insurgency in neighbouring Mozambique.

Recently, Mnangagwa posted a tweet saying Zimbabwe was ready to help Mozambique battle the Islamist militants. Over 2000 people have been killed in that country, and nearly 450 000 others were forced to flee their homes owing to the insurgency that was first reported in October 2017.

“Our progress as a nation also depends on peace in our nation, and in the countries surrounding us. There is no country that will develop in environments of violence, but countries develop in environments of peace, tranquillity, love and unity,” Mnangagwa said.

“We thank God for the peace that continues to prevail in our motherland Zimbabwe. Let us pray that God will give us wisdom as leaders of Southern Africa, Sadc and Africa Union, and the African continent to seek lasting solutions to address unconstitutional insurgencies both internally and externally driven.”

In November, Sadc  leaders revealed that they were in the process of putting together a reaction force to deal with the Mozambique crisis following an extraordinary organ Troika Summit held in Botswana.

Reverend Andrew Wutaunashe, the event’s co-ordinator was among some of the speakers at the thanksgiving ceremony.  He claimed that Mnangagwa’s participation in the liberation war was a calling from God.

“I think we should clap our hands to the Lord for empowering us to have a free nation, and dignity to worship him as free men and women and the sacrifices of men like Mnangagwa who sacrificed so that we have freedom.  Maybe that was a calling from God…,” Wutaunashe said.

Association Lament Worrying Numbers Of Increase In Covid-19 Cases Among Nurses

By A Correspondent- President of the Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA), Enock Dongo yesterday said there has been a worrying increase in the number of nurses infected with COVID 19.

Although Dongo said he did not have an official figure yet, he told NewsDay that the number of nurses infected with the coronavirus was rising sharply since the scrapping of flexi hours.

The flexi-working hours for nurses were scrapped by the Vice-President and Health minister Constantino Chiwenga in May this year.  He ordered that instead of nurses working two days a week on a rotational basis, they should report for duty daily.

Chiwenga launched an ambitious health restructuring policy meant to revamp the health sector, and among the changes he scrapped off the flexi-hours which meant shorter working hours for nurses.

Dongo warned that in January they would go back to court to force government to uphold the High Court judgments that said nurses were correct and were entitled as a matter of right to continue with the flexible working-hour system. Both judgments are a matter of public record under case numbers HC6507/20 and HC7099/20.

“Now that nurses are testing positive for COVID-19 due to the scrapping of flexi-hours, we have no choice but to approach the courts,” Dongo said.

“They are in contempt of court and should be jailed. How can they just ignore a ruling of the court.”

Meanwhile, Zina has called for dissolution of the Health Services Board (HSB) which it has described as “weak”.

“It is shameful that instead of apologising to nurses, the government is the one seeking to be appeased.

“The HSB is supposed to represent us on issues of our welfare, but it is not doing anything. It is so weak. In 2021 we want a new start and, therefore, the HSB must go.”

Dongo said the HSB has caused untold suffering on the nurses and ultimately contributed to the poor state of the hospitals.-Newsday

“Do Not Emulate Govt Violence Tendencies”: ZPP

Lampard Slams “Lazy” Chelsea Players

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was not happy with his players after the defeat to Arsenal, describing their performance as ‘lazy.’

An Alexandre Lacazette first half penalty and goals from Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka ensured that a somewhat second string Arsenal side collected maximum points and bragging rights in the London derby, as well as their first league since November 1.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Lampard did not hide his disappointment with his charges.

“It was an opportunity to go second against a team that are having a tough time,” he said.

“You either make it difficult for them or you give them a little opening and we did that from minute one and continued for 45 minutes. It was lazy to give away a penalty and lazy to give away a free kick that he (Xhaka) puts in the top corner.”

“We fought … but in the first half we gave ourselves too much to do… I’ll take responsibility on the outside but the players also have to take responsibility,” added the former midfielder.

The Blues are now seventh on the table.-Soccer 24

Leader Chidziva Sends Strong Message To Zanu PF

By Happymore Chidziva

On this day 27 December 1980 ,40 years ago I was born into a family of love and care, a good foundation of life values and skills were imparted in me growing up, to be a selfless fighter of the National Democratic Revolution.

It has been a thrilling journey full of trials and tribulations, disappointments and exciting moments.

From humble beginnings, I have met and worked with great friends, leaders and comrades who have been instrumental and helped me in many different ways in these past four decades.

I am humbled to have all of you and say thank you for the support and being there for me, making these forty years meaningful and productive.

As I celebrate another year added to my life, I look back at the long journey from the bush to the podium.

Fighting in the trenches for a democratic Zimbabwe, early in my youth as an mere activist, up to the vote of confidence by the people of Highfield West to represent them in Parliament.

The support, solidarity and confidence in me through out my activism and leadership shown by the MDC family, President Nelson Chamisa and broader Democratic movement keeps me going.

I still dream and remain committed to a nation of love and happiness, a nation of equal opportunities, free from corruption, tolerant of divergent political views, respect the rule of law and people’s choices. Together we shall continue to take Zanu PF head on and deliver a New Zimbabwe.

To my family, thank you so much for all the support, love and care.

Most importantly, all the praise goes to the almighty God for giving me a lifetime worth living and hoping for more years.

MDC Alliance Councillor Pledges To Work Hard To Improve Welfare Of Citizens

MDC Alliance Official Pledges To Work Hard To Improve Welfare Of Citizens

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance official, Grademan Mbira, has implored party members to embrace constructive criticism.

This follows articles written by prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of the popular movement.

As a councillor and a public official, I am very happy with the feedback from Hopewell “Daddy Hope” Chin’ono.

True democrats must be able to easily embrace positive criticism. Constructive criticism is when we are given feedback from others on how we can improve our programmes.

Daddy Hope has challenged me to work towards building the best possible institution which thrives for the betterment of people’s lives. I have to listen to advice from others which I believe, will benefit individuals, institutions and societies.

It is not our culture to attack those who criticise us, we rather must be empathetic to them. There’s always something to learn from their comments.

Thanx for the feedback Daddy Hope, I salute you,”said Mbira in a statement.

ZRP Cop Fined For Bashing Teenager

A MUTARE magistrate has ordered a detective and the police to pay $151 000 compensation to a 15-year-old Sakubva teenager who was brutally assaulted by the former in 2019 during investigations over a stolen cellphone.

The minor’s parents sued ZRP for inhuman and degrading treatment after the teenager was handcuffed and assaulted by Detective Assistant Inspector Jefinias Mazambani. Mutare magistrate, Mr Lazarus Murendo, presided over the case and on November 25 handed down his judgment in favour of the teenager.

As a result of the assault, the teenager bled profusely. He was later released from police custody without being charged.

It was alleged that despite being released from custody without any charges pressed against him, Mazambani made impromptu visits to the juvenile’s Sakubva residence and continued assaulting him.

He sustained injuries which include a perforated eardrum, facial swelling and swelling on his knees.

In his judgment, Mr Murendo said the assault was severe and he suffered excruciating pain, hence he should be paid damages amounting to $151 191 as compensation.

“The second and third defendants (Commissioner-General of the Police and the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage) are being sued in their official capacities as the employers of the first defendant (Mazambani) and as such, are deemed to be vicariously liable for the conduct of the first defendant committed during the course and scope of his employment.

“While the first defendant denied any wrong-doing, the evidence on record and his criminal conviction and sentence conclusively lead to the only reasonable conclusion that he indeed assaulted the plaintiff severely leading to serious injuries being inflicted,” he said.-Manica Post

Rainy season comes with lot of fun, excitement and along with it there are host of infections that are prevalent during this season.

“Satanists” Clash With Zim Preacher

Zimbabwean Prophet Goes Into Hiding After Altercation With “Satanists”

Tinashe Sambiri|
The leaders of the Satanic Church in South Africa have reportedly written a letter to controversial Zimbabwean preacher Isaac Makomichi asking him to join them.

Makomichi’s personal assistant claimed the prophet received an email requesting him to to join the Satanic church or they will destroy him if he fails to do so.

He further claimed that the letter was signed by one Junior Norton.

He also said the church was about to make a police report.

Makomichi was not immediately available for a comment on the matter.

Sources claim he has since fled to Ghana via South Africa to seek spiritual protection.

“Makomichi has gone to Ghana to seek protection. What I know is he currently is not in Zimbabwe,” said one church leader.

Transporters Call For Urgent Intervention At Beitbridge Border Post

The Federation of Eastern and Southern Africa Road Transport Associations has called for urgent intervention at the Beitbridge Border Post between South Africa and Zimbabwe where a humanitarian disaster is unfolding.

The association’s CEO Mike Fitzmaurice said that Covid-19 regulations and restrictions introduced at the beginning of December had severely compromised the flow of traffic through both sides of the border post.

Fitzmaurice said reports of corruption were rife with some traffic officials said to be accepting bribes of R 1000 from drivers who jump the queues.

During the first three weeks of December, the cost of delays at Beitbridge was almost R88 million per week.

Queue time delays for trucks amounted to R609 million per week.

I Thought He Was An Honest Person, Khupe Regrets

By A Correspondent| Former MDC-T interim leader Thokozani Khupe says she regretted joining forces with newly elected party leader Douglas Mwonzora whom she accused of vote fraud.

The two, together with many top party politicians, broke ranks with the Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance to revive the MDC-T structures of 2014.

This followed a party leadership wrangle which was ignited by the death February 2014, of founding party leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

The national courts ruled Chamisa was not legitimate leader of the main opposition, something that saw Khupe and Mwonzora join forces to operate as the ‘original’ MDC-T.

However, the chaotic events of Sunday’s shambolic MDC-T extraordinary congress have driven a wedge between the allies with Khupe accusing Mwonzora of rigging the extraordinary election in his favour.

Khupe told the media Sunday night that she had suspended Mwonzora from his position, adding that she regretted working with the senator.

“I do have regrets now because I thought he was an honest person, I thought he was a genuine person, I thought he was somebody whom we were going to be working together and moving together in this journey of making sure that we deliver a better life to every Zimbabwean.

“Little did I know that he was going to be somebody who would be doing things in a fraudulent manner. I don’t expect that from a person of his calibre…It’s a sad reality,” Khupe said.

Nurses Council Worried Over Increased Number Of COVID-19 Infected Nurses

President of the Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA), Enock Dongo yesterday said there has been a worrying increase in the number of nurses infected with COVID 19.

Dongo said the HSB has caused untold suffering on the nurses and ultimately contributed to the poor state of the hospitals.

Khupe Regrets Joining Forces With Mwonzora

By A Correspondent| Former MDC-T interim leader Thokozani Khupe says she regretted joining forces with newly elected party leader Douglas Mwonzora whom she accused of vote fraud.

The two, together with many top party politicians, broke ranks with the Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance to revive the MDC-T structures of 2014.

Khupe Threatens To Report Mwonzora To The Police Over Theft Of Party Funds

By A Correspondent| Former MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe says the opposition party will report newly elected party president Douglas Mwonzora’s alleged embezzlement of a total $6,3 million in party funds to the police.

Speaking to the media Sunday night, Khupe accused Mwonzora of unilaterally withdrawing the money from the opposition party’s bank account without both the knowledge and approval of his colleagues and later using it to rig Sunday’s MDC-T extraordinary congress in his favour.

Khupe was speaking some moments after she was forced to flee from the party’s congress at the Harare International Conference Centre when Mwonzora’s supporters were baying for her blood.

The followers were angered by Khupe’s bold announcement she was calling off the congress midway after some huge anomalies had emerged from the process.

But speaking from a safe place after her ordeal, the former deputy prime minister of the now defunct inclusive government accused her ally of stealing party funds.

“First, he (Mwonzora) took 300 000 (dollars) from the party coffers without anybody knowing and we said ahh, ok. And then 6 million (dollars) as we speak right now is missing; he can’t account for the money.

“If you see this whole conference, it is happening on credits. I had to go out of my way together with the national chairman (Morgen Komichi), we had to ask for credits and yet he is holding 6 million (dollars).

“That is the 6 million he used to rig this election and I cannot allow this to go ahead,” Khupe said, adding that they were going to report the matter to the police.

“Definitely, we are going to be doing that because he has to account for the money,” she said.

Earlier in the day, Mwonzora told journalists that claims of his embezzlement of party funds were a smear campaign by opponents.

Similarly, presenting MDC-T resolutions soon after the announcement of election results Monday morning, party top leader Tapiwa Mashakada said the party had resolved to hire independent auditors to audit the MDC-T funds before considering any police report.

ZimEye will be livestreaming a press conference set to be held by the party’s former leader Dr Thokozani Khupe.

The presser is set to be held in Milton park Harare.

The development comes after MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora pocketed 883 votes out of a declared 1 027 total ballots on Sunday at the party’s extra ordinary congress held a few meters away from Zanu Pf headquarters in Harare.

His arch rival, the former’ acting party leader Dr Khupe who polled 118 votes while Elias Mudzuri got 14 votes and Morgen Komichi at the tail end garnered a paltry 9 votes.

There were 1 027 ballots issued of which 1 026 were cast with 2 being spoilt ballots.

Khupe and Komichi were later assaulted and escorted out of the Harare International Conference Centre by security after Khupe nullified the whole voting process as null and void citing rigging.

Duo Pull Out Of DCC Elections

By A Correspondent- Two candidates have pulled out of the Mutare Zanu PF district co-ordination committee (DCC) election rerun slated for today (Monday) in support of one candidate.

Four candidates participated in the first round and these were Binali Yard, Clever Muparutsa, Cecilia Gambe and Ivan Mbengo.

Yesterday Mbengo and Gambe told NewsDay that they had pulled out and were now supporting Yard, who now faces off against Muparutsa.

The first round was marred by allegations of rigging with some ballot papers found in bins, while others were burnt by party supporters were being paid to vote more than once.

Mbengo, a war veteran told NewsDay that the first round was scandalous.

“I have pulled out and am now supporting Yard because he has a cleaner record than the other candidates,” Mbengo said.

Gambe also confirmed pulling out but he declined to give reasons.

“I pulled out in support of Yard,” she said.

The election has exposed factionalism in the party, with Zanu PF Manicaland provincial chairperson Mike Madiro reportedly supporting Muparutsa while Zanu PF national chairperson Oppah Muchinguri is allegedly backing Yard.-newsday

The Consolidation Of Democracy In Zimbabwe

By Robert Sigauke- Zimbabwe celebrated National Unity Day a few days ago, commemorating the historic unification of former liberation war movements PF ZAPU and ZANU into what we know as Zanu PF today.

The historical importance of this event is two legged, firstly that it ended the disturbances in the Midlands and Matebeleland regions between 1983-1987 and secondly it had bound the two former liberation movements into one united front for joint thrusts towards national development.

Before then, PF Zapu had accused Robert Mugabe and his party of embarking on a mission to decimate Zapu which had been taken to represent and drive a tribal agenda favouring the non-Shona tribes in the Mid-South-Westerly regions of Zimbabwe.

Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo being referred to as father Zimbabwe is aptly befitting. From his days in the railway trade unionism, to the formation of the ANC, it is widely accepted that he was the father of the modern nationalism in Zimbabwe.

ZANU itself was a product of tribal fault-lines cracking within the then rank and file of ZAPU, having been dissatisfied with the leadership of Joshua Nkomo. By default or design, the fallout took a tribal end and this was to define the nationalist project and politics until today.

Despite sharing the same nationalist aspirations against the Rhodesian regime, there were little or no attempts to unite the two liberation movements. ZIPA was one such attempt were the military wings of these two movements made an attempt to forge an alliance on the battle field, but this was short-lived and only until the Lancaster House negotiations could another notable united front be seen.

There are records further, which indicate that Joshua Nkomo would favour the involvement of Robert Mugabe where it needed be, at one point directing that “bring that bright young man Robert” to be included in a negotiating delegation. Joshua Nkomo would later agree to the unity negotiating table to put a stop to the disturbances of 1983-1987. This was the legacy of the towering man, who passed away in 1999.

May his dear soul rest in peace, and may his legacy of unity, equality and freedom of the peoples live on. May his legacy of shunning toxic and evil politics of tribe be never be forgotten, politics of violence against minorities. May his legacy live on.

A good number of indications show that Mugabe had plotted the creation of a one party state system since the early 80s and even in years shortly before that. It had its own benefits for the party and Mugabe, who thought it easier to deal with internal opposition only than having sleepless nights over another opposition outside or partly within government. Reports suggest the Matebeleland disturbances were prepared for as early as 1981, so there are indeed gray areas in the conspiracy surrounding the arms cache found on the Zapu controlled properties, but that is another story.

The might and force used by Mugabe’s government against 50 or so dissidents, having collateral damages of 20 000 unarmed Ndebele civilians was not proportional, unless one had set eyes towards total decimation of the party and the majority ethnic group behind it. The Unity Accord of 1987 was subsequently signed which almost effectively resulted in the creation of a de facto one party state.

Edgar Tekere’s protests against rampant government corruption led to him being expelled from the Zanu PF party and he under ZUM, challenged Mugabe in the 1990 elections. In his own success Tekere blocked Mugabe’s near complete creation of a one party state in Zimbabwe.

Said Tekere,

“A one-party state was never one of the founding principles of ZANU-PF and experience in Africa has shown that it brought the evils of nepotism, corruption and inefficiency.” Tekere argued that the revolution was losing its way and moral compass, a reconfiguration within the echelons of power and government system was needed.

This is a government that had recently been riled by the 1988 Willowgate scandal. So popular was Tekere’s opposition to Mugabe at the time that he snatched an impressive vote count of 16% in the presidential and 20% of the parliamentary vote count.

ZUM too had violence meted against its members, some murdered by political thugs. In June 2011, Edgar Tekere, the gallant son of the soil passed on. His contribution to the liberation struggle and democracy in Zimbabwe will forever be cherished.

There has never been an opposition political party that has shaken a ZANU PF government to the core, even handing it its first poll defeat since majority rule, than the MDC under Tsvangirai. There has not been an opposition political party in Zimbabwe that has given ZANU PF sleepless nights for over two decades straight, waking it from the slumber and comfort of incumbency.

The reason for this is simple, the MDC’s is a people’s struggle, the concerns are real issues of the peoples in Zimbabwe. The leadership of the MDC are coming and going, the struggle is on a continuous path, the people’s spirit carries this revolution.

The democratic revolution is kept alive and relevant by the meting of violence against opposition members during elections, which is reminiscent of the Matebeleland atrocities albeit on a smaller scale.

It is a democratic disservice to be on a wanton warpath of arresting opposition leaders motivated by political scores. It is not true that ZANU PF’s own are not involved in much worse corruption, and the few arrests we see are stage managed where bail is granted without hassle.

The only real arrest against a ZANU cadre is where there has been a fallout, Mary Chiwenga for example. We never saw another Chris Kuruneri, only him. Khupe’s MDC is favoured with certain rights which same are denied to the MDC Alliance. Recently we witnessed a large gathering of Khupe’s congress at HICC against COVID regulations which are read when other opposition parties need to hold their gatherings.

State resources are at Khupe’s disposal to give their faction an upper hand against the MDC Alliance. We saw the prompt dispatch of the police to aid the claiming of Harvest House. The only reason why the airwaves are being opened quite recently is because citizen journalism is now rampant over Youtube and other platforms, it is therefore a losing battle to shut the airwaves.

It is these things which keep the democratic revolution alive and well to see another dispensation pass by and still remain relevant.

History has it, that such people’s revolutions, sooner or later, always prevail.

No Quorum – Dr. Khupe May Still Have The Authority To Suspend Senator Mwonzora – Room To Restore Recalled Legislators & Councillors

By Kennedy Kaitano- Taking into account the Supreme Court ruling and the decision to extend the Extra-Ordinary Congress, my analysis is that Senator Komichi should have been in charge of running the event which was eventually held on Sunday 27 December 2020, unless if the judgement giving the extension of the Extra-Congress date to 31 December 2020 gave Dr Khupe full control until 31 December 2020.

But having read the statement which stated “Komichi was given the assignment to ensure that there is a new voters’ roll on time for the Congress now to be held on December 27, I take it that Senator Komichi slept on the job as he should himself have 3nsured that the voters’ roll was perfect before the beginning of the Extra-Ordinary Congress and ensured that the correct voter’s roll was available at the voting points. He should have ensured that the voters roll included all the participants who were eligible to vote as using the authentic 2014 structures.

Senator Komichi or Dr Khupe, whoever between them was in charge as per the Supreme Court Judgements declaring the Extra-Ordinary Congress and announcing the extension to 31 December 2020 respectively should have checked to ensure there was a quorum at the beginning of the process.

I have seen an interview of one misguided comrade who thought an elective Extra-Ordinary Congress has no quorum, and I strongly suspect this is what the illegitimate standing committee had nicodemously agreed just to ensure that the Extra-Ordinary Congress is held even if there was no quorum as they all had an interest in being elected or having their favourite person elected to the post of President regardless of constitutional provisions regarding quorum.

Look at it this way – this was an Extra-Ordinary Congress that was meant to elect a substantive President of the Party, who should ordinarily be elected at Congress. The quorum for a Congress and Extra-Ordinary Congress was separately specified, but as an Extra-Ordinary Congress performs the role of Congress on matters than cannot be resolved by Council between Congresses, the quorum should be exactly as the quorum required for a natural Congress.

The quorum for the Congress and Extra-Ordinary Congress are tucked in together as they are both addressed under Section 6.2 of the constitution, so but you guys, either collective or probably Senator Mwonzora being the legal expert within the illegitimate Standing Committee, misled Extra-Ordinary Congress participants to believe that there was no quorum requirement for an Extra-Ordinary Congress.

This must have been done out of desperation to just have the Extra-Ordinary Congress, fooling yourselves that it was mandatory. I will say it again for the umpteenth time that that Extra-Ordinary Congress.

Think of it, reading through the Constitution of the Party as adopted at the 4th Congress of the party which ran 31 October to 1 November 2014, every meeting you can think of has a quorum specified, be it the National Council meeting, National Executive, Provincial Assembly, Provincial Executive, District Assembly, District Executive, Ward Executive, Ward Assembly, Branch Assembly and Branch Executive for all wings – Main Wing, Woman’s Assembly, and Youth Assembly.

Whoever was in charge between Senator Komichi and Dr Khupe should have risen to the occasion and declared that there was no quorum at the very beginning, and a resolution should have been passed that as the election was conducted without a quorum, the results had to be endorsed by another Extra-Ordinary Congress as specified in the constitution.

All the same, Dr Khupe did well to stop the election process, assuming that she was the one in charge as granted by the original Supreme Court judgement declaring the Extra-Ordinary Congress and the judgement that extended the timeframe to 31 December 2020.

While the Congress resolution passed by the unconstitutionally constituted Congress as it did not have a said Dr Khupe’s Powers ended at the beginning of the election process, this is disputable because the person who had the mandate to organise this event has Supreme Court authority that can only expire at the end of 31 December 2020, unlike an ordinary elective congress.

This is so because what if something didn’t go down well, as it did in this instance, the person with that mandate has Supreme Court authority to take corrective measures until the expiry of the authority granted by the Supreme Court. So, there is a bit of advice to Dr Khupe or Senator Komichi – whoever is in charge – you have until 31 December 2020 to take corrective measures.

While I am not privy to the money that Senator Mwonzora is said to have misappropriated, if he indeed misappropriated some money as alleged, all efforts should be made to ensure he faces the music.

Combating Witch Persecution in Africa: Looking Ahead to 2021

By Leo Igwe- Although the coronavirus pandemic dealt a heavy blow to global public health and economy, this year has seen some positive developments, and some signs of hope for humanity and pointers to a better future.

One of such developments is the launching of an advocacy campaign against witch persecution on the continent of Africa. Witchcraft allegations constitute a form of death sentence for the accused in the region. And this should not be the case because witchcraft is a form of superstition.

Since January, the Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AFAW) has been working to fill in the gaps in activism against witchcraft allegations in the region. Witchcraft belief has been associated with the African continent for too long.

Western anthropologists designate witchcraft as the gatekeeping concept for Africa, which is the frame to study and understand Africa including African thought and culture. This designation is no longer helpful if it ever was and it is time that the concept was discarded.

While there have been reports of egregious abuses linked to witch persecution in Africa, very little is being done to eradicate this social menace. Local and international programs to combat witch persecution leave much to be desired on all fronts.

Western NGOs dominate and drive efforts to end witch persecution in the region. Unfortunately, many of these NGOs have some hidden agenda that is incompatible with dispelling witchcraft fears and anxieties in the region.

In the name of what they call “respect for African religious and cultural beliefs”, these organizations have betrayed the cause of ending witch persecution in Africa because these organizations cannot call African witchcraft by its name: superstition. So these Western NGOs organize wishy-washy programs that paper over the problem of witchcraft allegations.

Look, to end witch persecution in Africa, the region needs robust and effective campaign programs with a clear and categorical position against witchcraft imputation and witch-hunting. Africa needs NGOs that operate without double standards, organizations that are genuinely committed to eradicating this dark and destructive phenomenon without reservations.

In its Decade of Activism 2020-2030, AFAW outlined a vision to end abuses linked to witchcraft allegations in 2030. It aims to realize a critical mass of advocates against witch persecution in all African countries. AFAW proposed an expiry date for witchcraft imputation in the region to ensure that witch persecution is approached with the urgency that it deserves.

Expectedly, this Decade of Action has elicited mixed reactions. Some people think that the target is unrealistic and cannot be achieved given the enormity of the problem. These persons welcomed the vision to end witch persecution by 2030 but wondered where AFAW would get the resources to achieve this objective.

Others were of the notion that the target of 2030 was realizable and that ending witch persecution in Africa was long overdue. British scientist and humanist, Richard Dawkins tweeted saying that we should not wait that long to end this violent and horrific abuse.
Since January, AFAW has hit the ground running.

Despite the restrictions occasioned by the global pandemic, the campaign has made progress on various fronts. AFAW has been visible in local and international media. it has used reports and articles, press releases, and statements to challenge the narratives of witchcraft. Witchcraft belief persists in Africa because witchcraft narratives are seldom questioned or critically examined.

AFAW exists to change this culture of dogma and blind faith. AFAW’s declaration that witchcraft was a myth and a form of superstition was widely reported in the media. Media outlets found the declaration newsworthy because the predominant notion was that witchcraft was real and witches existed.

In churches and mosques, schools, colleges and universities, over the radio and television, on print and electronic media, Africans are taught that witches and other demonic and occult forces are facts, not fantasies. Many of those who promote these narratives are priests, pastors, and mallams, quasi clerics and spiritualists who claim to speak in the name of the traditional, Christian, or Islamic God.

The largely unchallenged dubious views of these godmen and women are reported in the media. And they reinforce witchcraft beliefs and fears in the minds of the people. AFAW has been critical of the preaching and questionable claims of witch-hunting clerics.

AFAW has challenged witch-hunting pastors who claimed that they healed or could heal Covid-19 patients. The skeptical challenge generated debates and discussions on social media for weeks. AFAW will continue to use its media statements to educate and enlighten, and to persuade Africans to question and critically examine witchcraft ideas.

In the past one year, AFAW has intervened in several cases of witch persecution. It has rescued and helped relocate accused persons. AFAW continues to support child victims while urging the police and other state authorities to arrest and prosecute suspected witch hunters. Beyond Nigeria, AFAW has petitioned the police and other state authorities in Kenya, Zambia, Ghana, Malawi, and Liberia urging them to take action against witch killers and witch-finders.

Unfortunately, 2020 has been marked by tragic incidents linked to witchcraft beliefs. Alleged witches have been lynched and stoned to death in various African countries. In Ghana, a local mob set an alleged Akua Denteh ablaze.

In Nigeria, some witch hunters including a local politician lynched 15 persons suspected of witchcraft in Boki, Cross River state. Mobs burnt alleged witches in the Kisii region in Kenya and stoned them to death in Dedza, Malawi.

In fact the list of victims goes on. That these horrific incidents continue to happen in this 21st century is a cause for concern and more cogent actions. Proactive measures are urgently needed locally and globally to address this problem.

Looking ahead to 2021, AFAW will continue the public education and enlightenment of the African public. It will continue to pressure state authorities to take necessary measures to dispel witchcraft fears and anxieties.

AFAW will work to end impunity for crimes linked to witchcraft beliefs and ensure that witch-killers and witch hunters are brought to justice. The internet has helped in getting advocates to alert AFAW of cases of witch persecution in the region.

AFAW will liaise with its partners, families of victims, community leaders across the region to ensure a rapid response to any instance of witch persecution. It will strive to extend support to the victims, educate and enlighten witchcraft accusers and believers. Witch persecution happens more often in rural communities where there is a limited presence of state institutions and services.

AFAW will work with all affected communities to specifically address the root causes and drivers of witchcraft allegations. AFAW is aware of some complex underlying drivers of witch-hunting in the region. In A Short Textbook of Preventive Medicine for the Tropics, Lucas and Gilles(1982) noted some development features in African countries: “Limited central organization of services, scattered populations living in small self-contained units, low level of economic development, limited educational facilities, and inadequate control of common agents of diseases”. They noted that “Some of these communities are still held tightly in the vicious circle of ignorance, poverty, and disease”.

Unfortunately these observed features of the African society of the 70s and 80s apply to Africa today. One must add superstition to that circle because ignorance, poverty, and disease provide a subsoil for the proliferation of irrational fears and anxieties.

As AFAW’s Decade of Activism enters its second year, the movement will press ahead with its vision and mission. It will draw attention of global, regional, and local institutions to this vicious circle and other dire socio-economic situations and stressful conditions that breed witch persecution and killing.
