Tsvangirai’s Apology To Zimbabweans

Masimba Mavaza VAZET

By Dr Masimba Mavaza| The MDC Alliance in a bid to please their sponsors elsewhere, have plunged the nation into the pool of confusion and suffering. The sanctions which are imposed on Zimbabwe has made the business and economy die and unemployment increase in a way only witnessed in a fiction movie. The country is profusely bleeding. The unpatriotic behaviour exhibited by the MDC Alliance should not be swept under the carpet.

MDC through Chalton Hwende has shown Zimbabweans that they are the ones behind the sanctions. They actually said sanctions are helping Zimbabweans. In actual fact the sanctions are starving Zimbabweans. The MDC is hoping to starve the people to rebellion.

All along MDC A has refused to admit that they are the ones who have begged for sanctions in the country. It was until the late Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s son told the nation through Parliament that sanctions are illegal and are hurting us. He was lashed at by the MDC for talking against the sanctions. In any democratic world, a political party which brings suffering on its people in anyway should be suspended or banned. Tsvangirai’s son and the member of Parliament for Glenview, Mr Vincent Tsvangirai in his rare moment of sanity submitted in Parliament that the sanctions are the real cause of harm in the country. He called for sanctions to be removed. This did not go well with the MDC leadership who wrote to him and forced him to retract his statement in parliament and justify the evil sanctions. MDC forgot everything about parliamentary privileges and sought to sanction the poor MP for telling the truth about the Sanctions. MDC have shown that they are the devils causing the nation to bleed.

Southern African countries have joined calls from the Zimbabwe government for the sanctions to be lifted, saying they’re damaging the region’s economy. But we have MDC singing a different song praising sanctions and kissing those who work against us.

So why are sanctions in place and what impact are they having? Sanctions are in place because MDC hopes to remove the government through sanctions. So sanctions are put in place to help the MDC to unlawfully topple the government. The unlawful sanctions used for the unlawful operation to an unlawful end.

Sanctions are slowing down our progress, inhibiting our economic recovery and punishing the most vulnerable.

The United States and the European Union (EU) have both maintained sanctions, citing a lack of progress in democratic and human rights reforms as well as restrictions on press freedoms.

They target both specific individuals and companies. But it has now come clear that they are doing the will of the MDC who are the puppets of the West.

Zimbabwe’s economy has faced deep economic crises over the past few years with periods of hyperinflation rendering the local currency worthless.
Once again this year Zimbabwe has been reeling from high levels of inflation as well as severe shortages of fuel, power and water.
A party that is cruel to its own people is a party that is in sight of surrender.

MDC A has made the West apply this anti economic, violent silent, deadly remedy on Zimbabwe and now every Zimbabwean is limbing. In the mean time the MDC shows no remorse seeks to punish anyone who speaks against sanctions. It costs lives inside the nation sanctioned and it brings a pressure upon the nation which, no modern nation could resist. The sanctions destroy humanity wipes away generations causes pain and suffering.

The reality, alas, has been far different from what MDC envisioned. The global, comprehensive, and vigorously enforced sanctions against ZIMBABWE have produced tenuous results and untold suffering of the people of Zimbabwe. Surprisingly MDC seeks to blame ZANU PF for the state the nation is in. Seriously? Unilateral sanctions even when imposed by the largest economy in the world face far more difficult challenges, especially in an increasingly integrated international economy.

Zimbabwe is no longer in an election process. It is in a crisis. People have to chose a witch or a fighter. We are in a state of war. Fighting for our future. Fighting for our children. Fighting for our economy. The nation now needs Unity more than it needed it before. It is painful that MDC has the guts of saying sanctions are meant o help the people. Sanctions are actually killing the people and destroying even the unborn. Drastic situations needs drastic actions. Decisions have to be made. To combat a crisis. To fight a crisis. And to win in the crisis. We are rich in natural resources. We are Zimbabweans. We need to expose Chamisa and MDC. MDC is a cancer eating away our future and we have to stop it now. MDC has brought a degree of chaos.

People have been fooled to believe that change means MDC. That is not true the change Zimbabwe needed was brought in by ED. Zimbabwe has suffered enough and playing to the gallery by the MDC is a pain.

The actions of the opposition is proper witchcraft. It makes one wonder whose interest are these people saving.

The answer is not very far. The opposition in trying to get relevance now they are using the sanctions to help them. No the reality is that they want to be seen to be working by their masters. This publicity stance has turned to vindicate what we have always been saying that ZIMBABWE has nothing to hide.

Chamisa is a troubled soul he has failed to lead his party and yet he wants to lead the country. Surrounded by political prostitutes like Job Sikhala and Vascodagama Violent monger Tendai Biti Chamisa in his idiocy has positioned and purposed the country to suffer.

What Kind of a leader who wants to see people suffer until he wins. This is clearly cruel MDC makes the playing ground uneven. The unconventional wisdom by MDC was that sanctions should work, that they be costly politically and economically, and that their use should be aimed to effect a regime change. Tsvangirai in his grave turned and requested his son to publicly denounce sanctions to the chargrill of the whole MDC leadership.
The issue of Vincent Tsvangirai has caused very wide cracks in the MDC. It has exposed the iron fist MDC is ruled through.

MDC has fallen far away from the Democratic values it purports to represent. It is MDC which has fired Mayors for exercising their democratic rights. MDC members are not allowed to speak their mind. They are fired or the vanguard is set upon them if they stand up for the truth.

The relationship between MDC and the truth is very distant so all MDC cadres are trained to keep silent even is everything around them yearns for the truth. As American sanctions on Zimbabwe have expanded and proliferated over the past 20 years, they have also led to increasing tensions between the United States and its supporters. One ca see the fear in Vincent Tsvangirais eyes. His retraction was not sincere. It is clear that words have been put in Vincent’s Mouth. The letter From Hwende to Vincent is extortion at its best He is only telling people it’s fake cause it has been put on social media. Chamisa is turning MDC into a dictarship anyone can tell what has happened. it’s common sense, it’s clear like water, Vincent has been forced to retract his statement. MDC has once again failed to allow free speech. Freedom of expression is key to Democracy. That letter is not fake. Vincent received that letter and a 20 mins lashing phone call from Hwende on the instructions of Chamisa. MDC is not tolerant and it has no shame.

Chamisa Reveals That Harare Has Confirmed 2 Coronavirus Cases

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe on Saturday morning recorded two new coronavirus cases in Harare, according to Nelson Chamisa, leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

Chamisa posted on microblogging site Twitter that he was informed of the development by City of Harare authorities.

He wrote:

I have just been informed by City authorities that we have two new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Harare this morning. Please take preventive measures and exercise extreme caution wherever you are. We must together ACT to stop the virus from spreading. Remember to always wash your hands.”

“Preparedness Plan Will Minimise Import Of Covid-19” – Boastful Dog Putting Out Fire?”

By Patrick Guramatunhu- “My Government, through the Ministry of Health and Child Care, has put in place measures to minimise the import of COVID-19 into the country and ensure health safety to all citizens,” said President Mnangagwa as he launched Zimbabwe’s Coronavirus National Preparedness and Response Plan.

“The National Emergency Prepared and Response mechanism for surveillance and early detection of any possible cases was activated and will remain active until after WHO has removed the global health alert.

“This pandemic surpasses all that we have experienced before. Around 200 000 people have tested positive globally and around 7000 have died worldwide.”

This is just a wishful thinking; Zimbabwe is in no position to protect its citizens from the coronavirus outbreak!

It is all very well to say the country has a “surveillance and early detection plan” but another thing to have an effective and working plan in place.

How many suspected coronavirus cases have been tested so far? And how many such test can the country do in a day?

Government has come up with a US$26 million budget to finance strategies aimed at combating the possible outbreak and spread of the virus. How many personal protection kits, test kits and specialist equip such as ventilators with this pittance buy?

Yes Zimbabwe is poor but the failure to get our priorities right is a serious issue we cannot ignore. For example, the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Kirsty Coventry, announce last week that government was spending $23 million and $13 million upgrading the National Sports, Barbourfield and Sakubva stadium respectively. She did not say whether the sums are in US$ or Z$. Still, it beggars belief that the nation should be spending money on prestige projects and pittance on life and death matters.

But worse still, Mnangagwa himself allocated US$4.5 million to POLAD members tasked to lobby Western and SADC nations to demand the lifting of sanctions. A waste of time and money since the IMF, WB, AfDB and all the other financial institution have all confirmed that they will not pay Zimbabwe one dollar in financial assistance even if the sanctions were lifted because the country’s reform programme is “off-track”.

The IMF singled out the country’s convert money printing – which is fuelling inflation – and the failure to stamp out corruptions as reasons for abandoning Zimbabwe as failed state beyond the pale. What IMF has done is confirmed Zimbabwe’s junk financial status and investors, being a shrewd and savvy lot, have taken note.

As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state there will be no meaningful economic recovery. The coronavirus outbreak has certainly caught the nation with its pants down! Whatever is in this Coronavirus National Preparedness and Response Plan, we can be certain it will be wilfully inadequate for two reasons.

  1. 40 years of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and rank lawlessness earning the country the pariah state label has left the country in economic ruins with any all but collapsed health care service. We have no human and material resources with which to fight the virus.
  2. We are not going to make the best use of the little resources we have because it is in the nature of this Zanu PF regime to be wasteful. After 40 years of corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical rule the regime is set in its ways; IMF and others have failed to get the regime to reform and not even the Armageddon threat of the coronavirus will succeed.

Like it or not. Mnangagwa’s coronavirus preparedness plan is just another example of boastful dog “claiming to put out the furnace fire with his puny fart”, as the great African writer, Chinua Achebe, so aptly put.

Nakamba Pays Tuition, Exam Fees For 1k Students

By A Correspondent- Aston Villa and Zimbabwe international footballer Marvelous Nakamba has launched the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation back home.

The Hwange-born midfielder also revealed that the Foundation has so far paid tuition and exam fees for 1 000 young people and will continue to offer various kinds of support. The Foundation’s objective is to help and support local people who are in need and to improve the livelihood of young people.

He said:

Great News! I have successfully launched the Marvelous Nakamba foundation in Zimbabwe. The purpose of the Foundation is to help and support our people in need and improve the livelihood of the young generation.

Through the Foundation, we have managed to fund 1 000 young people with their Education tuition and exam fees. We will continue to reach out to more young people who can benefit from this support.

Earlier this month, Nakamba reportedly applied for land from the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) to build a facility that will develop young talent and share life skills with youths.

Although details on the initiative were sketchy, the development came after Nakamba last year told BCC that he believed his move to England will help inspire young Zimbabwean footballers to aim higher.-Wires

“MDC Hoping Sanctions Will Starve Masses Into Rebellion” Lied Dr Mavaza – What Some Do For 30 Pieces Of Silver”

By Patrick Guramatunhu- I believe in freedom of expression but not when the exercise of that right means freedom to offend, to brainwash and stifle debate and/or, worse still, to incite, lawlessness and thuggery!

“The MDC Alliance in a bid to please their sponsors elsewhere have plunged the nation into the pool of confusion and suffering. The sanctions which are imposed on Zimbabwe has made the business and economy die and unemployment increase in a way only witnessed in a fiction movie,” wrote Dr Mavaza in his recent article.

“The country is profusely bleeding The unpatriotic behaviour exhibited by the MDC Alliance should not be swept under the carpet. MDC through Hwende have shown Zimbabweans that they are the ones behind the sanctions. They actually said sanctions are helping Zimbabweans.

In actual fact the sanctions are starving Zimbabweans. The MDC is hoping to starve the people to rebellion. All along MDC A has refused to admit that they are the ones who have begged for sanctions in the country.”

There are so many aspects in this sanction debate that Zanu PF have ignored and thus making it clear the party is not interested in an honest and informative debate of the subject. For example, whilst the regime has gone to town on how sanctions have destroyed the Zimbabwe economy it has failed to provide any hard evidence to support this.

Whatever damage is being inflected by the sanctions is nothing compared to that caused by corruption and mismanagement. In the beginning, the regime denied there was corruption but has since admitted the problem or be it grudgingly.

In 2016 then President Mugabe the country was being “swindled out of US$15 billion in lost diamond revenue alone. He never arrested even one diamond swindler nor has Mnangagwa, his successor.

Last month ZACC admitted that the commission had identified US$ 7 billion is assets and cash that have been salted out of the country. It is no secret that ZACC will never stamp out corruption because the Godfathers behind the corruption and government leaders including President Mnangagwa himself.

It is clear the regime is blaming the country’s economic meltdown on sanctions just to draw attention away from the root causes of corruption, mismanagement and the rotten political system which has allowed Zanu PF to remain in power regardless of the party’s economic failures.

Even if sanctions were the root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown, one has to ask why the regime and its apologists are targeting the opposition leaders and not the western nations who imposed the sanctions. The regime has dismissed opposition leaders as nothing more than “the West’s puppets”. So why punish the puppet for the omission of his master!

Worse of all, why are ordinary Zimbabweans being denied their freedoms and rights including the right to free, fair and credible elections and even the right to life itself. Zanu PF imposed this de facto one-party dictatorship for the same selfish reasons the white colonialists did.

So instead of independence restoring the freedoms and rights the whites had denied the black majority all it did was replace the white oppressor with the Zanu PF oppressors.

The number one item, indeed the only item, on the national agenda should be the restoration of the individual freedoms and rights including the holding of free, fair and credible elections. It is no surprise that Zanu PF and its apologists are using every dirty trick in the book to have sanctions as the only item on the national agenda by pretending it is the hardship caused by sanction pushing the masses to rebel against the dictatorship.

Even the simpletons who have believed all the Zanu PF lies and propaganda have woken up to the reality that for them to have any meaningful say in the country’s destiny, they must restore their political power to hold those in power to account.

They must have the power to remove Zanu PF, if need be, from office and the only sure way to regain that power is by making sure there free, fair and credible elections.

It is very sad indeed that 40 years after independence we are still fighting for the same basic freedoms and rights so many suffered and died for before independence. So, yesterday’s liberators have become today’s oppressors.

“76% of those fighting in the Rhodesia Front Army were blacks!” A white supremacist once boasted.

The racial colour of the oppressors has changed, there are still as many sell-outs ready and willing to serve the new masters! Zanu PF has never had any problems finding Zimbabweans willing to sell their own mothers for a price.

Even now with all the 40 years of documented evidence of Zanu PF corruption and tyranny, there people like Professor Mthuli Ncube, Kirsty Coventry, Dr Mavaza, and many, many others who will falsify the party’s record and defend the dictatorship for the sake of thirty pieces of silver!

Notorious Armed Robber Survives Gun Exchange, Remains On The Run

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said two of the five armed robbers killed in a shoot-out with police along Glenara Avenue in Harare on Thursday were South Africans, while the other three who were captured alive were Zimbabweans.

However, the gang leader and most wanted suspect, a hardcore criminal named Musa Taj Abdul (alias Musa Mahommed), managed to escape.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi corrected earlier media reports that claimed Abdul, who has been on the police wanted list since 1999, was among those shot dead. Said Nyathi:

Musa Taj Abdul alias Musa Mahommed is not among the arrested or shot gang members. He is still on the police wanted list.

The three dead Zimbabweans have been identified as Dennis Stanley Dube alias Dingola (29), Taurai Chitepo (36) and the other one only identified as Johnson.

The three survivors have been identified as Godfrey Mupamhanga (27), Prince Zakeo (25) and Maxwell Stanley alias Dennis Mateta (25). They were all arrested on nine counts of armed robbery and are expected to appear in court this Saturday.

The deceased South African criminals’ identities are yet to be established and ZRP has since asked Interpol for help.-Statemedia

No Compromise South Africa Turns Away Flights From Coronavirus Hit Countries.

All local citizens were, however, given a thorough medical and assessment screening for coronavirus and then put into quarantine or sent for self-isolation. More than 20 international flights from “high risk countries” were isolated at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, as well as Cape Town and Durban, yesterday – and foreigners on board were not allowed to disembark. Only South Africans were permitted to leave the planes.

All local citizens were, however, given a thorough medical and assessment screening for coronavirus and then put into quarantine or sent for self-isolation.

The lockdown was in terms of regulations issued by Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula under the declaration of national disaster proclaimed by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday.

Mbalula said the restrictions on the flights and the “warm bodies” aboard them were applied because the flights had left their points of departure before the South African notification was sent to them.

Mbalula dismissed as “fake news” suggestions that airports in the country were closed … but he said a decision to close them was an option which might be considered by the “national command council” in future. The travel restrictions will see “foreign nationals from high risk countries” prevented from disembarking the aircraft. They will be “sent back to their own countries”, Mbalula said in a briefing at OR Tambo yesterday.

“Inbound crew will be screened and quarantined,” said the restrictions.

Countries which are deemed as high risk include South Korea, Italy, Spain, Iran, Germany, United States of America, United Kingdom, China and France.

Mbalula said the bans on foreigners setting foot on SA soil also applied to travellers in transit to other countries, including Namibia and Mozambique.

He also said that any chartered flights would have to operate from international airports to ensure compliance with the regulations.

Airports Company of SA CEO Mpumi Mpofu said the process involved the deployment of police officers to ensure people did not try to “escape” from what needed to be done in terms of screening and assessment.

Air Traffic and Navigation Systems CEO Thomas Kgokolo stressed that no flights had been “grounded” and that operations were normal, other than that aircraft and their passengers had to comply with the regulations. He said no aircraft which had filed flights plans had been refused access to South African airspace.

Mpofu said something similar and stressed that SA’s airports were still open to, and accepting landings and takeoffs from flights to countries not on the “high risk” list.

Disgraced Oppah Muchinguri Makes An About Turn On Coronavirus

Disgraced Zanu PF chairperson Oppah Muchinguri has taken an about turn on her attitude on the ravaging Coronavirus calling on her party members to advocate zero tolerance to the virus.

This comes after President Mnangagwa launched a US$26 million preparedness and response plan for coronavirus aimed at building an integrated and coordinated strategy on preventing the spread of the virus.

Zimbabwe has confirmed one cases of Covid-19.

Muchinguri’s latest stance comes after her undiplomatic utterances last week when she said Coronavirus was God’s punishment on the Western countries for imposing sanctions on Zimbabwe.

Addressing party members at a Covid 19 awareness campaign launch in Harare yesterday, Muchinguri-Kashiri applauded President Mnangagwa for launching the preparedness and response plan for the pandemic adding that the party would implement every directive.

“On our part as the ruling party, we have seen it fit to implement every directive given by the First Secretary of the party and as such we are committed to add spar and impetus towards reinforcing the prevention of Covid 19.

“Efforts are currently underway internationally to curb this cruel vice. It is imperative to note that Zimbabwe is joining the whole international community in fighting Covid 19,” she said.

“Next week will be characterised by a nationwide blitz where provinces will simultaneously hold Provincial Coordinating Committee meetings where focus will be placed on the pandemic’’ she said

Thereafter, each province is going to despatch teams to all cells and villages in a bid to ensure that every Zimbabwean from all corners of the country are conscientised on Covid 19.

Health and Child Care Minister Obadiah Moyo said they are prepared and are responding to the pandemic in a collaborative and timely manner.

“Let me reiterate that my Ministry is already in response mode, despite not having confirmed any cases. Since the declaration of the outbreak as a public health emergency of international concern by World Health Organisation, the Inter-Ministerial Taskforce, the National Response Preparedness Taskforce and the Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee on Health have met regularly and have strengthened the coordination efforts that have provided input into the Plan. Our collaboration and strengthen coordination structures are key to success,” he said.

Zanu PF Political Commissar Victor Matemadanda urged provincial party membership to engage in door-to-door awareness campaigns.

“Members who are using party resources must use them to engage in door-to-door campaigns to educate people on Covid 19 and also mobilising members ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections,” he said.

ZUPCO Drivers Very Scared As Coronavirus Risk Is High On Them

ZIMBABWE United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) workers has called for improvement of working conditions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This comes after President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared the COVID-19 pandemic a national disaster and called for strict measures to contain the spread of the virus.

President Mnangagwa in his speech on Tuesday said gatherings of more than 100 people, including those for purposes of worship and weddings stand suspended for the next 60 days after which the suspension will be reviewed.

A ZUPCO driver who plies the CBD-UZ route Johannes Gezi said they were bound to do their job which is to transport the commuters no matter the situation but they were at risk since there were no sanitizers at ranks and in the buses while they ferry more than 100 people in most cases.

“I ferry 80-85 passengers but some go to 100 to meet their targets. We heard about the new development but there is nothing we can do. All the people you are seeing outside want to go to their respective destinations and my job is to take them there,” he said.

Asked if he had any information about the virus, Gezi said:

“We are just hearing people talking about it. We don’t have an idea on how we are going to avoid it. We work with the public day in day out.

“Like now that they are getting into the bus; we don’t have any hand sanitizers; we don’t have anything to keep us safe from this virus but we still just have to work. There is no way we can run away from it.”

He said he always moves around with a tablet of soap that he uses to wash his hands after work.

He also believes there is need for the ministry of healthy to educate the masses.
Related Stories:

“I think the Ministry of health has to chip in and do awareness in our buses because most of us we don’t have enough information of what is really happening out there since we spend most of our time on the road.”

Another driver who spoke on condition of anonymity said:

“We are just trying to make a living here. We are afraid that if there is an outbreak in Zimbabwe we will be the first to be affected because we don’t have protective measures. We are just going to pray because we don’t know who has it and who doesn’t.”

A ZUPCO conductor said they would appreciate if they get hand sanitizers to use before and after they have collected the bus fares.

“The money is being exchanged as usual; we haven’t changed our operations so maybe we would want to have some sanitizers.”

Meanwhile, some commuters have called on the government to increase the number of ZUPCO buses.

They believe once there are enough buses they will be able to maintain the hygiene being called for by the president.

“Maconductor acho anga achitoti itai back to back munhu wese akwane mubhazi, tatouya takapirana musana,” said a commuter who spoke on condition of anonymity

“We will be more than 100. That’s why we are asking for more buses because I know we will just be less than 80 sitting passengers.

“Once we have more busses there won’t be any problem. Just like how the commuter omnibuses operate. Munhu anongosvika opinda mubhazi hapasisina zvekuita pressure.”

Pastor Smuggles Heroin And Other Drugs Hidden In A Parcel, Covered With A Bible And Anointing Oil.

A PASTOR from Bulawayo allegedly smuggled heroin, morphine and codeine weighing more than one kilogramme and worth $130 000, wrapped in a parcel that contained a small Bible, bottles of holy water and oil.

Fearless Chitiyo (41) of Nguboyenja whose church was not named in court, allegedly received the drugs from Israel after a Ms Florence Dube sent them to him.

Chitiyo was intercepted by the police at Courier Connect located at Corner 8th Avenue and Fort Street where he had gone to collect the parcel.

He was not asked to plead to possession of dangerous drugs when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Adelaide Mbeure.

Chitiyo was remanded on $1 000 bail to March 31.

He was warned not to interfere with State witnesses, continue residing at his given address and report once a week at Bulawayo Central Police Station.

Chitiyo is being represented by Mr Bruce Masamvu of Mutatu, Masamvu and Da Silva-Gustavo Law Chambers.

Prosecuting, Mr Terrence Chakabuda said sometime in October last year, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics in Bulawayo, received information from Zimra officials that they had intercepted a suspicious parcel from Israel addressed to Chitiyo.

It is alleged that the parcel was opened in Chitiyo’s absence and drugs together with other valuables were recovered.

“The parcel contained a small Bible, 3×300 millilitres of holy oil, 2×300 millilitres of holy water, four small bottles of holy water, yellowish-brown lumps coated with white powder, yellow brown granules and yellowish-brown lumps coated with pink powder,” he said.

Samples were collected from each of the three packets and taken to a Forensic Science laboratory for examination.

A report from the laboratory indicated that the packets contained heroin, morphine and codeine.

On Thursday this week, detectives from CID drugs teamed up with Zimra officials and initiated a controlled delivery which led to the arrest of Selina Makate (37) of North End suburb at Courier Connect in the central business district who had gone to collect the parcel on Chitiyo’s behalf.

She was interrogated about the parcel and she allegedly revealed that it belonged to Chitiyo, her brother-in-law.

This led to Chitiyo’s arrest.

The drugs were weighed, it was established that they weighed 1,293 kilogrammes and are valued at $129 300.

Last year, a woman from Bulawayo and her boyfriend were arrested at Courier Connect for possessing 2kg of crystal methamphetamine, a dangerous drug in the same class as cocaine, worth more than $120 000.

The drug had been smuggled from India concealed under a batch of weaves.

Legendary Country Music Star Kenny Rogers Dies

Kenny Rogers with Long Time friend Dolly Parton

BBC|American country music legend Kenny Rogers has died aged 81.

A family representative said he “passed away peacefully at home from natural causes”.

Rogers topped pop and country charts during the 1970s and 1980s, and won three Grammy awards.

Known for his husky voice and ballads including The Gambler, Lucille and Coward Of The County, his career spanned more than six decades.

He once summed up his popularity by explaining that he believed his songs “say what every man wants to say and that every woman wants to hear”.

After growing up in poverty on a federal housing estate in Houston, Texas, Rogers began recording with a string of bands, including Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, before launching his solo career in 1976.

He was never a favourite of music critics, but became one of the most successful pop-country crossover acts of all time, and the 10th best-selling male artist in US history in terms of album sales.

He collaborated with other country music legends during his career, including Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.

In 2007 he unexpectedly found himself back in the limelight in the UK when The Gambler became the unofficial World Cup anthem of England’s Rugby Team.

The song became so popular that during his 2013 Glastonbury Festival legends slot Rogers played it twice.

That same year, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Country Music Association.

In their statement his family said he had “left an indelible mark on the history of American music”.

A keen businessman, Rogers led several ventures over the years, mainly in property and the restaurant sector.

He also acted in several movies and TV shows, including starring as a race car driver in the 1982 movie Six Pack.

During an interview with the BBC in 2013 , he recalled his “obsession” with tennis, and said he became so good that he ranked higher than Bjorn Borg in the ATP’s doubles table.

He was married five times and had five children.

Predominately Zimbabwean Refugees Living At The Methodist Churches In SA Face Eviction Due To Coronavirus Fears

South Africa / Urban refugees / Zimbabwean refugees queue early in the morning outside the Musina Refugee Reception Centre.

The Methodist Church of Southern Africa is in the process of bringing an eviction order against hundreds of refugees, who have been living in its Central Methodist Mission in Cape Town since last year, on the grounds of health and safety.

“The grounds are what we’ve been saying all along — it’s been a health and safety risk from the beginning, which I mentioned when people were already there,” said Reverend Alan Storey.

He added the safe space was no longer a safe space due to the risks, and the church would be defeating its original offer and intention — of safety — to let the group stay.

Storey said the risk of Covid-19 had brought an additional sense of urgency, but they were not doing it just to clear out the church.

He added there were children who have not been outside the church on Greenmarket Square since December 29, when a leadership dispute split the group in two — with one inside and another outside the church.

A note has also been put up outside the church recently by the group to ask tourists not to enter as they have usually done as Covid-19 measures are in place.

Religious institutions have announced the postponement of planned mass gatherings, and changed the way prayers are offered.

One of the leaders of the “inside” group at the Central Methodist Mission, JP Balous, appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and his case was postponed to March 30, according to Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila. Balous was arrested for the alleged intimidation of SA Human Rights Commission commissioner Chris Nissen, and also on an unrelated assault case.

During an appearance on March 7 pandemonium ensued during court proceedings.

Storey said he had spoken to the leader of the “inside” group, Aline Bukuru, to express his concern over the health and safety of the group, which includes at least 50 small children.

“We forget that it [the cramped living conditions] is a complete fire hazard.”

The group originally camped out at the Waldorf Arcade where the UN High Commissioner for Refugee’s office is based to demand relocation to a third country, citing xenophobia.

They were removed by the police at the end of October last year who used water cannons and stun grenades. Thereafter, Storey offered them shelter as they wandered around Greenmarket Square in a daze with their luggage. They have been told it is not possible as a group to be relocated, and must apply individually.

The “outside” group eventually decamped to a site opposite the Cape Town Central police station after being removed by law enforcement invoking by-laws against living and cooking on the pavements around the church.

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs has asked for feedback on what the department and City of Cape Town intend doing about the situation. Storey said lawyers were still working on the application, and he did not have a court date yet.

In a church notice, also announcing there would be no services due to Covid-19, he wrote: “In closing, I have a great concern about the refugees in the CMM sanctuary…

“. . . They are attempting to practice frequent hand washing, etc. But the truth is the conditions inside the sanctuary are ripe for a virus of any sort to spread, let alone the highly contagious coronavirus. As a result, our legal processes are addressing this matter with increased urgency.” — Sapa

Kembo Mohadi’s Guard Shot His Own Wife Then Turned Gun On Himself

Kembo Mohadi

TWO bodies of a man and woman have been recovered at a farm owned by Vice-President Kembo Mohadi, about 60km from Beitbridge border town.

Police said the bodies were of lovers that were involved in a love triangle.

A source who attended the scene said the woman is suspected to have double-crossed her lover with another man who had promised to take her to sungura artiste Alick Macheso’s show.

Macheso performed in Beitbridge on March 6.

“Her live-in-lover, who was a guard at Mohadi’s farm, intercepted messages about the proposed trip and kept quiet,” said the source.

“When the woman requested money ostensibly to go and order trinkets from Musina in South Africa, he asked her to join him in their room where he locked the door and killed her before shooting himself.”

Police recovered the deceased lovers’ bodies at the bloody scene.

The man, who must have blown his head by firing under his chin, was still holding on to his murder-suicide weapon when their remains were recovered.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident, saying it was part of a worrying trend of people dying in crimes of passion.

“We have previously issued a statement on those deaths,” he said.

“In Beitbridge [at Mohadi’s farm] it was a tragic end of a love triangle dispute.

“In the last eight days there were several deaths, including two men who fatally clashed over a woman in Manicaland.”

Nyathi said the alleged murderer was arrested when he returned to roast maize at the murder scene the following day and found detectives waiting.

Police said during the same week, a man in Lusulu, Binga, hacked to death five people including a baby.

The suspected murderer has since been identified as Christopher Gotore.

He allegedly killed Admire Nyangarai, whose age was not given, his wife Bibeat Munsaka (23) and the couple’s one-year-old baby Loice Compassion Nyangarai, who was axed while on her mother’s back.

Kwekwe Turns Beerhall Into A Coronavirus Testing Centre

KWEKWE City Council has converted a local beerhall in Mbizo suburb into a coronavirus (Covid-19) screening centre as a measure to scale up preparedness in case the killer virus is recorded in the city.

Kwekwe mayor Angeline Kasipo, said the local authority does not have any infectious diseases control centre, hence the need to designate Garandichauya beerhall as a screening facility, adding that they used devolution funds to revamp the place.

“The amount budgeted for the revamping of the screening facility is $1,8 million which we got from devolution funds,” she said.

Acting town clerk Lucia Mkandla also added that upgrading Garandichauya beerhall into an infectious disease control centre was a necessity for Midlands as they had to be prepared for the outbreak.

“We do not have an infectious disease control hospital in Kwekwe and in the event of a disaster, we will find it difficult to control,” she said.

“We therefore had to commission the former Garandichauya beerhall into an infectious disease control facility,” she said.

While local authorities are trying to scale up preparedness and setting up quarantine centres, the two major screening centres are in Harare and Bulawayo.

Meanwhile, the City of Harare has started disinfecting crowded areas like public ranks which are Covid-19 hotspots.

Bulawayo Declares That It Is Not Ready To Deal With Coronavirus Patients

Thorngroove hospital

State Media|Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has said it has not received all the requisite equipment to adequately deal with Covid-19 cases that may arise in the southern parts of the country.

The local authority runs Thorngrove Infectious Diseases Hospital which should cater for patients in Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South, Midlands and Masvingo.

BCC, however, says it still does not have satisfactory resources to effectively attend to Covid-19 cases despite making communications with the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

Zimbabwe is still fortunate that it has not recorded any Covid-19 cases, despite the infectious virus battering most countries globally.

More than 250 000 people have been infected by the virus worldwide while 10 544 others have succumbed to the disease.

In a press briefing yesterday, BCC Health Services Department deputy director and coordinator in charge of Covid-19 rapid response preparedness, Dr Khulamuzi Nyathi, said with cases swelling in the neighbouring South Africa there is a need for Bulawayo to be more prepared to deal with any emerging cases.

He said the local authority had sent a bill of quantities to the Ministry of Health and Child Care on materials needed for council to adequately prepare to handle cases but this has not been delivered.

“We need some waste management practices, we need an incinerator, we need holding tanks, we need personal protective equipment. One of the things that we really need even the World Health Organisation director general (Dr Tedros Adhanom) has said is the ability to tests cases locally.

“We need a way in which we can test specimens on the same day,” he said.

At the moment any tests for suspected coronavirus cases are done in Harare.

In an interview, Health and Child Care Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr Agnes Mahomva said Government has not neglected Bulawayo.

She said she was not aware of the specific items that council needed but Government was disbursing all the priority equipment countrywide.

“Your (BCC) list could be so long and you might get a few of those but you will get most priority things that you might want to use for an emergency. We will chase up and find out what exactly they haven’t gotten. Is it among the priority things that we are saying every person should get first while other things will follow?” said Dr Mahomva.

She said the same approach will be used in renovating Thorngrove Infectious Disease Hospital, as Government and its partners cannot spread across limited resources at one go.

China has renovated the Wilkins Hospital in Harare and is expected to move on to Bulawayo.

Chamisa Confirms Two More Coronavirus Cases In Harare

Nelson Chamisa visiting a Coronavirus quarantine centre in Harare recently.

Zimbabwe on Saturday morning recorded two new coronavirus cases in Harare, according to Nelson Chamisa, leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

Chamisa posted on microblogging site Twitter that he was informed of the development by City of Harare authorities. He wrote:

Wilkins Hospital Runs Out Of Protective Clothing

WILKINS Infectious Deseases Hospital, the main isolation centre for the coronavirus (Covid-19) in Zimbabwe, has once again run out of protective clothing, at a time the government is yet to dedicate funds for the response and containment of the deadly virus.

The hospital, a fortnight ago, received a donation of protective clothing, including space suits that had been given to the country’s Health and Child care ministry by the World Health Organisation (WHO) supported by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DfID).

Sources at the infectious disease’s quarantine centre told the Zimbabwe Independent that they had only received about 20 space suits which since have run out.
“We have been getting a number of scare (suspected) cases, and we have been using those space suits and the rest dealing with those cases,” the source said.
Healthcare workers require space suits, gloves, gumboots and N95 respirators when attending to Covid-19 patients or suspected cases so that they do not get infected.

After attending to the patient, the clothing should be burnt to stop possible infection. The UK government, through its Department for International Development (DfID), supplied personal protective equipment, computers, data services and television monitoring equipment worth £100 000 (US$128 229).

The hospital is on lockdown and does a thorough screening before admitting or conducting tests for coronavirus. Wilkins Hospital, situated in Harare’s Milton Park suburb, has 35 beds, while Thorngrove Hospital in Bulawayo has 20 for the Covid-19 response, according to Health minister Obadiah Moyo.

City of Harare Health director Prosper Chonzi earlier this month said more room would be created at Wilkins using tents. Wilkins was also not equipped to deal with Covid-19, prompting the Chinese embassy in Harare to renovate the hospital to create an intensive care unit (ICU).

“They are far from finishing because every time we get a scare they stop. There was no ICU at the isolation unit so that is what they are trying to create,” the source told the Independent.

The Chinese embassy pledged to refurbish Wilkins Hospital to make it comfortable for patients.Wilkins hospital is also short-staffed, with health personnel working long hours.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday cancelled national events, such as Independence celebrations and the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) so that the money can be diverted towards the Covid-19, response. Unlike other countries, Mnangagwa fell short of announcing how much the country was committing towards fighting the virus.

“Government has decided to postpone, curtail or cancel public events, gatherings and activities. In that respect, government has postponed the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, all national independence celebrations previously planned and pending international sporting fixtures until the threat of coronavirus recedes. All these activities will resume as soon as we are satisfied that our nation is no longer at risk,” Mnangagwa said while presenting his State of the Nation Address in Harare this week.

“Resources originally earmarked for these events will now be redirected towards strengthening our defences against the coronavirus and towards drought mitigation.” — independent

Mthwakazi Petitions Queen Elizabeth To Restore Mthwakazi Kingdom

Mthwakazi to petition govt, Queen Elizabeth over kingdom restoration
Queen Elizabeth II

Correspondent|SECESSIONIST Mthwakazi Republic Party (M11RP) has embarked on a bid to secure 20 000 signatures in the next month to petition the government, the African Union and United Nations to allow the restoration of the Mthwakazi kingdom.

The party also intends to petition neighbouring countries, the British government as well as the Queen of England.

Speaking at the launch of the petition at the Bulawayo Media Centre Monday, party president Mqondisi Moyo said the controversial move was inspired by UN resolutions minority groups must be afforded their autonomy and self-determination.

He said the UN position called for self-determination of all minority groups whose human rights were being denied and their dignity trampled on by majority ethnic groups anywhere in the world.

“We are a proud and law-abiding nation Kingdom that was established by King Mzilikazi Khumalo bringing together many ethnic groups and creating a sense of singular nationhood amongst them, that he then called Mthwakazi kingdom state.

“The colonisation of our state was never associated with that of Mashonaland or Zimbabwe as we were still a sovereign state at the time this region of Southern Africa was colonised in 1890.

“Therefore, our decolonisation could not have synchronised and associated with that of Mashonaland or Zimbabwe,” reads part of the petition.

Moyo accused the British government of fighting against the Mthwakazi Kingdom’s restoration cause.

“The British Crown also legalised the continued occupation of our kingdom state illegally by proclaiming the Matabeleland Order-in-Council on the 19th of July 1894 where it was claimed that our kingdom has been broken and replaced by a better system. Such a declaration was racist and false,” the petition also reads.

Moyo said the party intends to have secured the signatures by the end of April this year.

“We will be moving door to door securing the signatures from our membership. So far, we have already secured 1 504 signatures from our members in the diaspora. We are confident that we will reach our target,” added Moyo.

According to Moyo, the Mthwakazi kingdom is made up of Aba-Thwa, San, Asians , Chewa , Nyanja, coloureds, BaKalanga, Karanga of Mthwakazi , Nambya , Nguni , Shangwe , Dhombe Sotho, Tonga , Tswana, BaVenda, BaLemba, BaSankwe , BaHlengwe, White African and Xhosa tribes.

Highly Wanted Armed Robber Musa Taj Abdul Escapes Police Armed Onslaught

Arrested Godfrey Mupamhanga (left) & Prince Zakeo

State Media|Two of the five armed robbers killed in a shoot-out with police along Glenara Avenue in Harare yesterday were South Africans, while the other three who were captured alive were Zimbabweans; but the gang leader and most wanted suspect, the notorious Musa Taj Abdul (alias Musa Mahommed), managed to escape.

Abdul, who is believed to be the chief architect of a spate of robberies committed in Zimbabwe between August last year and this month, has been on the police wanted list since 1999.

He was initially reported to be among the five dead robbers, but it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

“Musa Taj Abdul alias Musa Mahommed is not among the arrested or shot gang members. He is still on the police wanted list,’’ said national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi in a statement.

The three dead Zimbabweans have been identified as Dennis Stanley Dube alias Dingola (29), Taurai Chitepo (36) and the other one only identified as Johnson.

Three survivors of the shoot-out — Godfrey Mupamhanga (27), Prince Zakeo (25) and Maxwell Stanley alias Dennis Mateta (25) — were arrested on nine counts of armed robbery and are expected to appear in court today.

Police believe the gang was based in South Africa, just coming north to conduct its Zimbabwean raids.

The South African pair is yet to be identified and the Zimbabwe Republic Police has since asked Interpol to help establish their identities.

Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said investigations were linking the gang to the nine robberies.

“The police have successfully linked the gang to the nine cases of armed robbery. Some of these include the armed robbery which occurred on December 20 last year at Wessel Shop in Msasa, Harare, where they disarmed a security guard and stole a special Amadeo Rossi revolver, $160 000 and an Isuzu KB240 single cab vehicle.

“On February 5 this year, the gang went to Makoni Shopping Centre, Chitungwiza, armed with pistols, an AK47 rifle and robbed unsuspecting complaints of US$19 000, $30 000, cellphones and a Toyota Allion vehicle, which was later found abandoned in Glen View,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.

He said on February 26, the gang robbed another person in Harare of US$40 000, jewellery, several pairs of shoes, a laptop, cellphones, a star pistol and Hyundai vehicle. The gang proceeded to the victim’s workplace and robbed him of US$227 250 and R28 000 but police have so far recovered US$10 000.

At the scene of the shoot-out on Thursday, police recovered a 9mm CZ pistol, a Star pistol, Bruno pistol, .38 special Amadeo Rossi revolver, FN Browning pistol, 20x9mm rounds of ammunition and 4×7.65mm live rounds.

Mnangagwa Launches National Covid-19 Plan

President Mnangagwa yesterday launched Zimbabwe’s US$26 million preparedness and response plan for coronavirus aimed at building an integrated and coordinated strategy on preventing the spread of the virus causing Covid-19 and mitigating its effects.

He said coronavirus was almost certain to reach Zimbabwe, hence the need for a detailed plan to minimise its effects and spread.

“It is no longer a matter of if or but when our country will have these cases”.

The total budget will be spent in eight areas identified by the Ministry of Health and Child Care with the support of the World Health Organisation (WHO). The areas and their allocations are:

  • Planning, monitoring and coordination US$1 424 100;
  • Risk communication and community engagement US$1 098 500;
  • Surveillance, rapid response and case investigation US$4 159 890;
  • Points of entry US$112 440;
  • National laboratory system US$3 119 454;
  • Infection prevention and control US$238 850;
  • Case management US$4 090 540; and
  • Logistics, procurement and supply management US$12 144 606.

The plan was crafted by the Ministry of Health and Child Care with technical support from other partners based on eight pillars set by the World Health Organisation.

Launching the plan, President Mnangagwa said no country was immune to the disease and Government was committed to stopping Covid-19 in its tracks.

He said given the fast rate at which coronavirus was spreading, Zimbabwe could no longer afford to continue with a “business as usual approach” and so should step up its efforts to be prepared.

“As Zimbabwe, we cannot continue with business as usual approach, as it is no longer a matter of if but when our country will have these cases,” said President Mnangagwa.

“Around 200 000 people have tested positive to the coronavirus globally and around 7 000 have died due to the disease worldwide. Closer home, around 30 or more African countries have confirmed cases of Covid-19 and in our region, seven out of 16 Sadc countries have confirmed cases.

“Considering the scale and magnitude of the spread of this virus, it is very clear that no country is immune from the disease and its impact. With our HIV prevalence of 14 percent in Zimbabwe or slightly below and malnutrition and other non-communicable diseases, especially among children, we are deeply concerned about the impact Covid-19 could have in Zimbabwe.

“This situation is a real threat to the citizens of our mother country. My Government through the Ministry of Health and Child Care has put in place and continues to enhance measures to minimise the import of COVID-19 into the country and ensure health safety of citizens of our country.”

President Mnangagwa said the world over, Governments had activated emergency modes, as the number of cases, the number deaths and the number of affected countries had increased significantly.

He said although Covid-19 was first reported in China, the total number of cases and deaths outside China had now overtaken the total number of cases in China with Europe now being the epicentre of the pandemic.

Said President Mnangagwa: “The national emergency preparedness and response mechanism and surveillance and early detection of any possible cases was activated and will remain active until after the World Health Organisation has removed the global health alert. Our preparedness measures have been stepped up through heightened surveillance systems at national, provincial and district levels with special focus on all ports of entry throughout the country with mandatory screening of all visitors having already started and all our Government buildings and infrastructure should be screened with immediate effect.

“In addition, active surveillance and follow ups continue to be done to minimise the spread of the Covid-19 in Zimbabwe.

“As of March 13 2020, around 10 000 travellers had been screened at our ports of entry and put on surveillance. All our hospitals remain on high alert for the Covid-19. Work is in progress to strengthen the capacity of identifying isolation centres that are able to manage severe cases throughout the country.

“There is no confirmed case yet in Zimbabwe but considering the volume of traffic and other countries in the region and internationally, we need to step up and enhance our preparedness and response to the scourge.”

The launch of the Zimbabwe preparedness and response plan at State House was also attended by Vice President Kembo Mohadi, Cabinet Ministers, United Nations officials and diplomats affiliated to the country.

“Don’t Panic, Continue Practicing Good Personal Health,” Health Ministry Urges Zimbabweans.

Obadiah Moyo

Zimbabwe last night confirmed its first Covid-19 case, a foreigner living in Victoria Falls who appears to have been infected in Britain but who acted responsibly on his return to Zimbabwe this week by quarantining himself as a returning traveller from an affected country and then continued isolating himself when he felt ill.

Minister of Health and Child Care Obadiah Moyo announced the first confirmed case saying the foreigner had travelled back into Zimbabwe from Manchester, United Kingdom but that the patient had been identified in timely fashion.

He urged the nation to remain calm and practise best hygiene as his Ministry continued tracing all contacts.

“Today, 20 March, 2020, National Microbiology Reference Laboratory at Sally Mugabe Central confirms that a suspected case of Covid-19 had tested positive. This is the first case of Covid-19 in Zimbabwe.

“The patient is a 38-year-old Caucasian male and resident of Victoria Falls who had travelled to Manchester, United Kingdom on 7 March and returned to his home in Victoria Falls on 15 March via South Africa.

“After arrival he put himself in self quarantine at home as per our advice that all travellers from Covid-19 affected countries. On realising that he was not feeling too well he contacted his medical practitioner by telephone advising him that he had a persistent cough and sneezing.

“The general practitioner alerted the local Covid-19 rapid response team from the Ministry of Health and Child Care who immediately went to assess him and recommended that he continues with self isolation at home.

“Specimens were also collected and ferried to reference laboratory for testing and continued with self isolation at home and he is showing signs of recovery after some positive management at home.

“As a result of our preparedness we managed to identify this first case in a timely fashion and ensure that he was appropriately managed. Our teams are now being assisted by the patient himself. The nation be calm as we deal with this case of Covid-19 in Zimbabwe.

“Let us continue with good personal hygiene,” he said.

Govt To Follow Up Rich People To Investigate Source Of Riches

Ziyambi Ziyambi

State Media|Government will invoke the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act to fight high-profile corruption cases as part of a cocktail of measures to combat graft, legislators have heard.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said conviction of high profile individuals has not been easy because most of them had the means to fight back.

He said invoking the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act was one of the easiest routes to fight graft because it places the onus on the accused person to prove their source of wealth.

Minister Ziyambi said this in the National Assembly on Wednesday while responding to questions from legislators during the Question and Answer Session.

Proportionate Representative MP, Mrs Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga (MDC-T) had asked why there was not much conviction of high profile cases.

She said legislators were beginning to doubt the seriousness and political will of Government to fight corruption.

In response, Minister Ziyambi said Government was committed to fighting corruption, but there were many legal processes involved.

“What we also have to appreciate is that those that are termed ‘high profile’ are people with means that can use every available legal recourse at their disposal.

“So we would find that in most of the high profile cases, several court applications are made by the accused and that is legal because those processes are allowed,” he said.

Minister Ziyambi said they have noted the need of close working relations between the arresting details and the prosecution to avoid premature arrests.

However, Minister Ziyambi said he was happy that the National Assembly had passed an amendment to the anti-money laundering law to have a provision for asset forfeiture.

Said Minister Ziyambi: “This is an easy route to follow where the onus is on the person to prove where they got the wealth from and if they fail, then those assets are forfeited to the State.

“So we are going to use several avenues to ensure that we deal with corruption cases, but indeed, corruption cases are not very easy to prosecute as they involve people with means and those people will use every available legal process to ensure that they stall the process.”

Norton MP Mr Temba Mliswa also asked Minister Ziyambi to respond to comments attributed to Prosecutor-General Mr Kumbirai Hodzi that some State institutions were captured.

But Minister Ziyambi said Mr Hodzi had told him that he had been quoted out of context.

“The first thing that I want to say is that the Prosecutor-General never said that ‘the prosecution is captured’.

“Secondly, the Prosecutor-General believes that he was quoted out of context. Thirdly, Mr Speaker, if I am captured, it does not translate to the Prosecutor-General being captured.

“As an individual, I am answerable for my own deeds, so if I do some misdemeanors, perhaps that is what the Prosecutor-General referred to, but in conversation with him, he believes that he was misquoted and what was reported which is what the Honourable Member is quoting — he was misquoted because they did not take in context what he was saying,” said Minister Ziyambi.

MDC, ZEC In Nasty Clash Over Umzingwane By-Election

Jane Mlambo| The MDC has written to ZEC Chief Election Officer Utoile Silaigwana complaining over the disqualification of their candidate for Umzingwane ward 14 candidate whose name was allegedly changed to another ward.

According to MDC Secretary General Charlton Hwende, Nkululeko Sithole was the party’s ward election candidate in the 2018 elections but his name has since been moved to another ward.

“It has come to our attention that our candidate for Umzingwane ward 14 Nkululeko Sithole, Identification Number *** has been discovered to be from another ward, notwithstanding that he stood for the same ward 14 in 2018.

“The officers at Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) have now indicated that they discovered he belongs to another ward. One of the many ways that ZEC seeks to assist Zanu PF in these elections,” said Hwende.

Parly Suspends Public Hearings For Mnangagwa’s Controversial Constitutional Amendment Bill

Clerk of Parliament Kennedy Chokuda has suspended public hearings for the controversial constitutional amendment bill number two in line with a government decision to ban all public gatherings for 60 days.

The public hearings were due to start on the 29th of March to 4 April.

Parliament has also adjourned to the 5th of May while schools and tertiary institutions are set to shut down on Tuesday the 24th of March.

Zimbabwe has since recorded its first coronavirus case in Victoria Falls, according to health minister Obadiah Moyo.

We Will Ensure Mnangagwa’s Ban On Public Gatherings Is Religiously Followed: Police

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it will ensure President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s decree banning gatherings of more than 100 people is religiously followed by “conducting patrols, surveillance and checks to ensure compliance,” as the threat of coronavirus mounts after neighbouring countries South Africa and Zambia recorded cases of the pandemic.

South Africa has so far recorded 118 confirmed cases, while Zambia has two.
The police warning comes after Mnangagwa yesterday launched a national awareness and preparedness campaign in which he indicated that “it was not business as usual because the virus is coming to Zimbabwe”.

“In view of the coronavirus pandemic and the measures put in place by the government of Zimbabwe and ZRP will ensure that all government directives and regulations meant to step up the safety and security of citizens are prioritised.

“The ZRP is working closely with relevant arms of government and appeals for co-operation from members of the public.

“The government’s ban of 100 or more people be it at church, music, soccer and any other gatherings should therefore be observed. Police are conducting patrols, surveillance and checks to ensure compliance,” said the ZRP in a statement yesterday.

Speaking at State House in Harare, Mnangagwa warned that the virus was heading to Zimbabwe.

“This is an issue of a serious disease which we can’t afford to ignore. In the last few weeks, we have had a dramatic decline in economic activities with our major trading partners.

“Indeed, this pandemic surpasses all that we experienced in Zimbabwe. In the Sadc region, seven countries out of 16 have confirmed cases of coronavirus.

“As Zimbabwe, we cannot continue with business as usual as it is no longer a matter of if, but when our country will have this disease, considering the scale and the magnitude of the spread of this virus. It is very clear that no country is immune to the disease or will be spared of its impact.

“With our HIV prevalence rate of 14 percent in Zimbabwe or slightly below, malnutrition and other non-communicable diseases among children, we are deeply concerned about the impact Covid-19 could have on the country. This situation is a real threat to all the citizens of our mother country,” said Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa said the national emergency preparedness and response mechanism and early detection of possible cases was activated and will remain active until after the World Health Organisation removed the global health alert.

“There is no confirmed case yet in Zimbabwe but considering the volume of traffic between Zimbabwe and other countries in our region and internationally, we need to step up and enhance our preparedness. This calls for extraordinary measures and responses.

“So far, the pandemic has largely affected countries with advanced health systems.

“They also struggled to control this pandemic. Lessons learnt from China have shown that doing the right things at the right place and at the right time is critical in controlling the coronavirus.”

He said the country’s preparedness measures have been stepped up through heightened surveillance systems at national, provincial and district level with special focus an all ports of entry.

“Mandatory screening of all visitors entering through our ports of entry has started and all our government buildings and structures should be screened with immediate effect.

“We call upon all stakeholders to contribute to this national cause, this call to action, every sector and individual must be involved in this national response to Covid-19.

The current circumstances require extraordinary measures to curb the spread of infections. Together, we will overcome this global health challenge. We have the knowledge, the means and the resources to fight this disease. If we act swiftly, collectively, we can limit the effects of coronavirus.”

Mnangagwa added that all Zimbabweans must put aside their differences to fight the coronavirus epidemic.

“As enshrined in our Constitution, our major priority is to safeguard the health of all Zimbabweans regardless of gender, religion, age or political persuasion.

“I strongly believe that we can continue to act together and put our differences aside to do the right things … we will overcome the Covid-19.”

Musician Greatman Speaks On How He Met His Wife Silibaziso

When love reigns, no one will be able to separate the two.

People can talk whatever they like but for the heavenly made match, negative words can strengthen the bond between the love birds.

Somehow it is more like adding fuel to the flame of love.

Love appeared at the right age in the life of musician Tongai Gwaze (27) popularly known as Greatman with his perfect match Silibaziso Masara (24).

The love birds first met in the heart of the Central Business District of Harare at corner Julius Nyerere and Robson Manyika streets.

It was at the corner symbolising that Greatman’s marriage life was around the corner.

As a busy man, he was singing to his audience some melodies which stroke Silibaziso’s heart on the tenderest spot.

In an interview with Saturday Herald Lifestyle, Greatman said they first met in the CBD about nine months back when he was doing what God sent him to do, music and was attracted by Silibaziso’s beauty.

“I first saw her in the CBD when I was singing and dismally failed to contain myself and kept on staring at her.

“I tried to concentrate with my work but I kept on staring at her, it was love at first sight,” said Greatman.

His wife confirmed that. Greatman was given ten miles ahead close to winning Silibaziso’s heart due to the fact that, she was already in love with his music. Eventually, the two exchanged phone numbers and started chatting the very day.

It Was Love At First Sight

Silibaziso kept on following him where he was performing as usual since she was one of Greatman’s biggest fans.

They became to know each other well through chatting until Greatman decided to let the cat out of the bag. He delivered words which are too difficult to tell a girl to kick start a love relationship.

“After several appearances, he told me that he loves me more than anything under the sun. I saw love in his eyes but I didn’t take him serious,” said Silibaziso.

It is in woman nature that when she receives such a message, the words will be circulating in her mind.

Greatman was on her mind before she accepted the proposal.

“All his utterances of that day became part of myself. I was busy thinking for a response to his proposal as he kept on piling pressure on me,” she added.

Love develops and grows like a mustard seed, she started developing love for him.

Pressure and excitement gripped her since she was on the verge of dating a celebrity. Finally, she accepted his proposal.

He found out that all the qualities he wanted suits and fits like a jig-saw puzzle with those of Silibaziso. Greatman, as a great man paid an undisclosed bride price to Silibaziso’s parents in Ascot, Gweru on March 10, 2020.

At first, Silibaziso’s relatives were not approving of the relationship between the two.

But surprisingly, Greatman’s in-laws approved the marriage because they understand their daughter more than anyone else.

“My relatives didn’t want me to marry a man with disability, but my parents approved the marriage because they value love and also respect my feelings.

“I feel secure to be with Greatman, I love him more than words can say,” she said.

To Silibaziso’s parents, it was not a bombshell since they know that their daughter loves playing with people with disabilities.

She said she grew up in Gweru where she used to spend more time with her lovely friends.

“I grew up in Gweru at Warambwa farm where I used to interact with my friends with disabilities, enjoying their company.

“For my hubby it is out of unconditional love and not something new in my love.

“That’s why we are happy in our marriage, I love everything about him”, she said.

Love has no boundaries and true love does not rely on material things.

Greatman said he neither owns a car nor a house and his wife does not mind that at all.

“I don’t have a car and a house, we are renting, but currently paying for a stand in Chiedza East to Morgan mortgage,” he said.

The two are happily married, share great moments together in Westlea where they lay their heads when the darkness fall.

Renting five rooms with their siblings.

Greatman showed that her presence provides warmth and the two are extremely deep in the ocean of love.

Silibaziso also highlighted that Greatman is sweet, his utterances are also sweet and he respects her.

These love birds play, laugh, make love and “kutamba chikudo”, Greatman’s twin brothers Kudakwashe and Kundai Chari confirmed that.

“We live together in Westlea, the two are happily married, always playing laughing and cracking jokes at night after work,” said Kundai who is also Greatman’s manager.

Silibaziso knows her hubby’s favourite meal, she prepares sadza and beans frequently. He eats the meal every morning before going to work.

“Usually my hubby likes sadza and beans which I prepare for him. I always make sure that he is happy and not hungry.

“My main purpose as his wife is to put a smile on his face and he is a happy man,” Silibaziso added.

She feeds her husband, knows what he wants and describes the habit with astounding precision. Silibaziso is spoiling Greatman with unconditional love. You can observe that, Greatman is on cloud nine and is experiencing a novel-like love story.

The couple is looking forward to have children in future.

“Children come from God and we are expecting to have many of them.”

The wife said they want seven children, five boys and two girls.

Seven is a biblical emblematic number, which symbolises fullness.

Isn’t it clear that the match was made in Heaven?

It’s natural that soon after paying lobola, the two will tie the knot.

Greatman and his wife are in preparation of a wedding but they did not disclose the date.

Silibaziso holds high hopes to wed at the Rainbow Towers but, is prepared to work with available resources.

“I have always wanted to wed at the Rainbow Towers but we definitely work with available resources. I am still looking for an affordable wedding dress. I know that my hubby would want something bigger, which includes an after party but, our budget will determine everything,” she said.

Vimbai Zimuto Returns to Music Again

Vimbai Zimuto

SULTRY songstress Vimbai Zimuto yesterday said her forthcoming single Kupakichwa — scheduled for release next week —was meant to be a soundtrack for couples in love.

Zimuto told NewsDay Life & Style that her fans were to decide the meaning of the track based on their own interpretations.

“On this song, I will let the audiences decide the meaning but I have made a turn in my sound. Kupakichwa in Zezuru dialect means kudyiswa… The name came from my own Shona research,” she said.

She, however, said she was still playing around with different concepts for the video, but they had already shot two scenes and were still to work on the other two.

Zimuto’s fans might be hoping for something close to her 2019 single, Hapana Kwaunoenda, whose steamy visuals saw it clocking over a million views on YouTube in no time.

The dancer, who drove social media into a meltdown last year when she displayed her nudes on her social media timelines to promote the novel nude art popular in the Western world, said her latest offering was centred on love.

“The message in the track is the power of love. It portrays a man’s love for his woman. Basically the lady is talking about how her husband pakicha her,” she said.

Kupakichwa, which is a rich Zimbabwean sound, traditional and ethnic track, was recorded and produced by Track Records aka Spencer Masango and Zimuto herself.

The musician said after experimenting with different sounds in 2019, she has identified her trajectory.

Sikhala Informs Law Society of Zimbabwe That He Is Facing Political Harassment

Job Sikhala...

MDC vice chairperson, Job “Wiwa” Sikhala, has written to the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) to register his fears about suspected security agents he says are trailing him.

This comes as Sikhala and other hardliners within Zimbabwe’s main opposition have called for radical action against President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his government, in a bid to force them to act on the country’s worsening economic rot.

The firebrand politician-cum-lawyer is claiming that since his acquittal on treason charges, he is being trailed by people he suspects are State goons.

“The write-up will serve the Law Society of Zimbabwe to have a proper and clear perspective as requested by your honourable office, of the current circumstances around myself.

“It is my humble submission, that as a member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe, it is important that the society protects and safeguards its members not to be impeded from executing their duties through political harassment,” Sikhala said in his letter to the LSZ.

“Furthermore, the exercise of my duties as per the oath I took when I was sworn in should be distinguished from my political convictions.

“My political life is totally and absolutely divorced and different from my professional duties. The two do not mix. There is no political activism in arguing a rape case in court.
“The threat to the legal profession in our country has its precedence in countries that threw fundamental principles of the rule of law, constitutionalism and democracy through the window,” Sikhala further said.

LSZ spokesperson Richard Chidza confirmed that the society had received Sikhala’s letter, adding that they were looking into the matter.

Sikhala has claimed that since his acquittal on the treason charges in February, he no longer had “a private life” due to his being trailed “24/7” by suspected security agents.

“After my acquittal on the 14th of February, State security agents came to OK Supermarket where we were buying groceries for my school children, whom I wanted to visit on the 15th.

“I did not come out of my car, but they asked some people who were around which car I was in. When my security details got wind of this, they confronted them and they rushed to their car and drove away.
“When we left on our way to my village in Gutu, they trailed us and when we got to Nyika, they parked right next to my vehicle at the Highway Shops,” Sikhala told the Daily News recently.
“When we left for home, they followed us along the dusty mountainous road to my village and it was now at night, at around 9pm. Unbeknown to them, we had two vehicles with more than 30 people.

“When we resolved to stop our vehicles in the bush to confront them, after switching off the lights, they made a U-turn and sped off,” he added.

He also claimed that during the court appearance of one of his clients in Karoi, he had been placed under heavy surveillance throughout his time in the town, until he returned to Harare.

“I did not stay in Harare as soon as I arrived on Sunday from the village. I had a court case to dispose of in Karoi.
“The matter was a trial which had been due for a long time, as I was not able to attend to it because of the exigencies of the treason trial.

“When they found out that I was at Karoi Magistrates Court, they deployed all the CIOs and members from the military intelligence in Mashonaland West there,” Sikhala claimed.
“I did not care and went on to cross examine the witness the whole day on Wednesday.
“When we decided to leave after we postponed the matter to another day, for other witnesses to come, they trailed us all the way from Karoi to my house in Harare.

“When they flagged my driver to stop between Zvimba and Norton, I wanted us to stop and hear what their problem was, but my driver refused to stop,” Sikhala added.

The fearless Zengeza West legislator was arrested in October last year on charges of subverting a constitutionally-elected government — after he told an MDC rally in Bikita East that he would work to overthrow Mnangagwa’s administration before the next elections that are due in 2023.

On February 3 this year, he filed an application for an exception to the charges, arguing that the utterances he had made at the political rally at Mandadzaka Business Centre did not constitute a crime.
Judge Garainesu Mawadze agreed with him and acquitted Sikhala after he upheld the burly politician’s application.

However, the State has since appealed against his acquittal.

Land Reform Is Final and Irreversible: Shiri

LANDS, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri yesterday cleared the air on Government’s recently gazetted Statutory Instrument 62, which was being interpreted as seeking to reverse land reform.

Minister Shiri said SI62 had generated misinterpretations with some people concluding that Government was reversing the land reform, which he said was irreversible adding that only indigenous farmers and those under the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreements (BIPPAs) would get the opportunity to have their land back.

By indigenous individuals, Government is referring to people of Zimbabwean origin who were previously marginalised before 1980 and had acquired land either through direct purchase or through Government commercial farm schemes before the land reform.

These farmers will either get their land back or get full compensation for both the agricultural land acquired and improvements that were done on the farms.

Section 295(1) subsection 2 of the Constitution also provides for the full compensation of persons whose agricultural land was acquired yet it was protected.

“The Land Reform Programme is final and irreversible. Any sentiments to the contrary are false and are to be disrespected with the contempt they deserve.

“It is false to say that there is an intention to return land to the previous white commercial farmers and reverse the gains of the land reform. It is equally false to state that the SI62 is designed to evade paying compensation to indigenous farmers; rather it creates an avenue for these farmers to exercise that option to acquire title deeds and continue with farming activities or opt for compensation,” he said.

The minister said some of the outspoken individuals who were suggesting that Government was reversing the land reform were latter day revolutionaries who were trying to be more revolutionary than Zanla and Zipra.

“They are the same people who are shedding crocodile tears. They are not genuine and need to understand the SI62. The ruling Zanu PF and Government never supported that land belonging to indigenous people be acquired,” he said.

He said a total of 440 farms belonging to indigenous people were acquired under the Land Reform Programme and 350 such farmers were still on the acquired land while 90 farms had resettled farmers.

Minister Shiri said the 350 farmers would have their titles re-instituted while Government would consider if the 90 farmers are interested in acquiring their farms.

These will apply to a committee that will consider the pros and cons of handing back the land.

For those farms where A1 farmers were resettled, the indigenous former owners can be given alternative land since it can be costly for Government to remove resettled farms.

Government has identified farms through the land audit, which can be used for resettling the indigenous farmers.

The development of the Statutory Instrument in question was guided by the following constitutional provisions:

“Section 72, which provides for the rights to agricultural land and the vesting of all agriculture land in the State, Section 289, which provides the guiding policy on agricultural land, Section 290 that provides for the continued vesting of agricultural land in the State, Section 293, which provides for the alienation of land by State including the alienation for value, transfer of ownership and lease of agricultural land and Section 295, which provides for the compensation of indigenous Zimbabweans whose agricultural land was acquired and person whose agricultural land was protected by a Government to Government agreement at the time of acquisition,” he said.

A committee will be put in place to deal with all applications for compensation and considerations will be made in line with the SI.

The committee will decide whether or not there are individuals settled by Government on the farms. It will also consider whether or not the applicant is in occupation of the farm or part of it, whether granting the application would be contrary to the interests of defence, public safety public order, public morality, public health, regional and town planning or the general public interests and whether the State in its own discretion prefers to pay monetary compensation.

“The alienation of land in lieu of compensation is not an automatic right and each applicant will be considered on case by case basis. The alienation or disposal will only be recommended in cases where it is reasonable and appropriate to do so. The SI only expands the options open to Government in the compensation of the mentioned two categories. The people of Zimbabwe are empowered by the supreme law of the land to reassert their rights to ownership of their land,” he said.

For BIPPAs, Minister Shiri said Zimbabwe was living in a global village and had to be predictable as a Government.

“When we sign agreements, we should honour the agreements. If we are in the habit of changing goal posts no government will still do business with us,” he said.

Full Text:Health Minister Confirms First Coronavirus Case In Zimbabwe

This evening, Friday 20Th March 2020, the National Microbiology Reference Laboratory at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital confirmed that a suspected case of COVID-19 has tested positive. This is the first case of COVID-19 in Zimbabwe.

The patient is a 38-year-old Caucasian male resident of Victoria Falls, who had travelled to Manchester, United Kingdom on the 7th of March 2020 and returned to his home in Victoria Falls on the 15th of March 2020 via South Africa.

After arrival he put himself on self-quarantine at home as per our advice to all travellers coming from COVID-19 affected countries.

On realising that he was not feeling too well, he contacted his General Practitioner by telephone advising him that he had a persistent cough and sneezing.

The GP alerted the local COVID-19 Rapid Response Team who immediately went to assess him and recommended that he continue self-isolation at home. Specimens were collected and ferried to the Reference lab for testing.

He continued with self-isolation at home and is showing signs of recovery after supportive management at home.

As a result of our preparedness, we managed to identify this first case in a timely fashion and ensure that he was appropriately managed.
Our teams are now engaged in contact tracing and are being assisted by the patient himself.

We call for the nation to be calm as we deal with this first case of COVID-19 in Zimbabwe.

In the meantime, let us continue with good personal hygiene.

– Wash hands with soap and water frequently or use an alcohol-based hand-rub,
– Cover your nose and mouth with tissue paper or flexed elbow when coughing and sneezing

– Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick, coughing or sneezing
– Avoid all unnecessary travel to and from countries with confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Finally, I want to appreciate the professionalism which has been displayed by our medical teams.

Teachers Insist They Were on Course to Close Schools Earlier If Govt Had Not Taken Heed

By Takavafira Zhou| Yes, it’s now official that schools are closing earlier than had been enunciated by President Mnangagwa.

We want to thank teachers for the bold statement that we had taken to close schools on our own if the government had failed to give heed to our professional advice.

We want to thank the thousands of pupils who were ready to follow our modus operandi.

Our gratitude also goes to parents who had made bold steps to withdraw their children with effect from Monday.

We want to thank the government for accepting professional advice, and whoever is ill-informing the President must learn from this ‘Fashoda’ crisis that engagement is better than unilateralism.

To our members, we want to reiterate that vigilance demands that we must always be resilient every time. To all teachers in Zimbabwe, we must always learn to unite as brothers and sisters so that we don’t perish as fools.

We are indeed managers of the world’s greatest asset, viz, children, and must never be treated as if we are of no account, or immune to a health pandemic.

Serial Rapist Sentenced To Death

A SERIAL rapist from Bulawayo who attacked and raped a woman from Cowdray Park suburb who was coming from fetching firewood with her two neighbours was yesterday sentenced to death.

Peter Nyathi (31) of Cowdray Park struck Ms Shella Moyo (42) with a log as she was coming from fetching firewood with her neighbour before raping her as she lay unconscious.

The deceased succumbed to the injuries two days later while admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital.

Nyathi has been linked to a series of rape, unlawful entry and theft cases in Cowdray Park and Luveve suburbs.

He broke into several houses and raped women in bushy areas between the two suburbs.

Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Martin Makonese yesterday convicted Nyathi of murder with actual intent.

In passing the sentence, the judge condemned Nyathi’s actions saying he deserved to be permanently removed from society.

“You brutally cut short the life of an innocent and defenceless woman by striking her with a log resulting in her collapsing and losing consciousness.

Not satisfied with the attack, you decided to quench your bizarre sexual appetite by raping her as she lay unconsciously on the ground,” said Justice Makonese.

“Your actions were utterly disgusting and sadistic and worse still you even went to great length to cover up your conduct by peddling lies upon being asked by your wife when she discovered blood stains on your clothes and again this was a clear sign of lack of remorse.”

Justice Makonese said the murder was committed in aggravating circumstances warranting capital punishment.

“This was a murder committed in aggravating circumstances and we find you to be a callous, calculative and cruel person. The only appropriate sentence is to permanently remove you from society,” ruled the judge.

On being asked why a death penalty should not be imposed on him, Nyathi who appeared unfazed pleaded for lenience, saying he was a sole breadwinner taking care of his wife, their minor child and his 84-year-old grandmother.

Justice Makonese reminded the accused person of his automatic right of appeal against both conviction and sentence at the Supreme Court.

Prosecuting, Mr Trust Muduma said on October 22 in 2018 at around 1PM, Moyo as well as two sisters, Lilly and Laiza Gumede left Cowdray Park suburb to fetch fire wood at Esiphaziphazi Hills in the north western side of Cowdray Park.

At around 5PM on their way back, they were attacked by Nyathi and they fled in different directions. Nyathi managed to catch up with Moyo and he struck her on the head with a log and she fell unconscious.

“Nyathi dragged the now deceased to a maize field where he raped her once and fled from the crime scene.

The now deceased was rescued by Cowdray Park residents and was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where she later succumbed to her injuries on October 24,” said Mr Muduma.-State media

Ziyambi Admits Failure in Corruption Fight

Government will invoke the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act to fight high-profile corruption cases as part of a cocktail of measures to combat graft, legislators have heard.

“As an individual, I am answerable for my own deeds, so if I do some misdemeanors, perhaps that is what the Prosecutor-General referred to, but in conversation with him, he believes that he was misquoted and what was reported which is what the Honourable Member is quoting  he was misquoted because they did not take in context what he was saying,” said Minister Ziyambi.

We Are Ready To Fight Coronavirus-Muchinguri

Zanu PF members should advocate zero tolerance to coronavirus, national chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has said.

This comes after President Mnangagwa launched a US$26 million preparedness and response plan for coronavirus aimed at building an integrated and coordinated strategy on preventing the spread of the virus.

Zimbabwe has confirmed one cases of Covid-19.

“Next week will be characterised by a nationwide blitz where provinces will simultaneously hold Provincial Coordinating Committee meetings where focus will be placed on the pandemic’’ she said.

Thereafter, each province is going to despatch teams to all cells and villages in a bid to ensure that every Zimbabwean from all corners of the country are conscientised on Covid 19.-State media

Herentals To Remain In Elite League As ZIFA Overturns PSL Ruling

PREMIERSHIP side Herentals have successfully overturned the decision by the PSL disciplinary committee to find them guilty in a match-fixing saga, which has been dragging on since last year.

Oliver Chirenga, who was said to be Herentals team manager and accused of having been the middleman in the scam, also had his life ban from football quashed.

The Students, who were docked three points and slapped with a $300 000 fine after being found guilty of allegedly manipulating the result of their match against Black Rhinos last year, will now keep their place in the Premiership.

Failure to overturn the judgment would have come at a huge cost for Herentals.

They would have dropped into Division One amid reports that ZIFA would also have punished them further by kicking them out of competitive football.

However, a four-member ZIFA Appeals Board, led by Harare lawyer Stead Kachere, a senior partner at Kachere and Guwuriro Legal Practitioners, yesterday quashed that conviction and spared Herentals both the axe and the imminent collapse of the football club.

They ruled that the PSL Disciplinary Committee appeared biased against Herentals, had denied the Students the right for legal representation and relied entirely on the evidence of former Rhinos team manager, Gift Kamuriwo, whose presentation could not be corroborated.

During the PSL Disciplinary Hearing, the ZIFA Appeals Board ruled, Herentals were turned into both the accused and prosecutors, throwing the entire process into a shambles.

‘‘In view of the above findings, the ZIFA Appeals Board hereby allows the appeal, in terms of Rule 7.9.3.1 of the ZIFA Rules and Regulations,’’ read the judgment released last night.

‘‘As a result, it is hereby ordered as follows:
The conviction of the Appellants (Herentals and Chirenga) made by the PSL Disciplinary Committee on the 8th of January 2020 be and is hereby set aside.

As a result, the 1st Appellants (Herentals) and 2nd Appellants (Chirenga) are hereby found Not Guilty and Acquitted.

The 1st and 2nd Appellants are hereby ordered to pay wasted costs to the PSL Disciplinary Committee as per ZIFA Appeals Board ruling on 5 March 202, thereafter each party shall bear its own costs incurred by the partners to the appeal as from the 5th of March 2020.

The 1st and 2nd Appellants shall be responsible, jointly and severally, to pay additional appeal costs as per paragraph 31 of this ruling.

ZIFA shall determine the amount with which the appeal proceeds exceeded the appeal feels paid by the Appellants and shall inform the Appellants.’’

The ZIFA Appeals Board said there were many flaws to the process when the case was heard by the PSL disciplinary committee and, given the gravity of the situation, which involved a cancer called match-fixing which should never be associated with football, it was a surprise the issue was fast-tracked.-State media

Zim Officially Confirms First Coronavirus Case

“Let us continue with good personal hygiene,” he said.-State media

If I Go To Jail My Family Will Suffer, Man Who Assaulted Police Officer Pleads For Forgiveness

A POLICE officer left vendors and passersby in stitches when he ran for his dear life after a man accused him of allegedly instigating his arrest last year and pummelled the law enforcer all over the body.

Gratitude Muritika (25) was walking along 6th Avenue heading to Ross Camp when his accuser Prince Siziba(23)
spotted him when he was about to cross Herbert Chitepo Street.

The fuming Siziba rushed to him and pushed him.

When Gratitude was trying to figure out what was happening Siziba hit him with an open hand while accusing him of instigating his arrest some time last year.

Touts and vendors gathered around the pair while some people whistled at the spectacle.

Being spurred on by the crowd Siziba landed a fist on the hapless police officer while the agitated crowd cheered on.

Gratitude managed to escape from Siziba’s volleys and ran for his dear life while holding his hat in his hand. Siziba followed in hot pursuit. Gratitude exhibited his athletic skills as he outpaced him and ran to Mzilikazi Police Station.

He made a report of assault at the station leading to the arrest of Siziba.

Appearing before Bulawayo magistrate Amanda Ndlovu facing an assault charge, Siziba pleaded guilty.

Siziba took to the stand: “ Your Worship, I’m sorry, I was too drunk on that particular day and I can’t clearly remember how I beat this police officer. Kindly forgive me I’m the bread winner, if I go to jail my siblings will suffer.”

The magistrate remanded him out of custody to next week on Tuesday for sentencing.-B-Metro

Obadiah Says Coronavirus Came From UK

VIDEO LOADING BELOW….

By A Correspondent| In a shocking twist, Zimbabwe’s health minister Obadiah Moyo has described the country’s so called, 1st Coronavirus positive patient revealed yesterday as a white man who travelled from Manchester, UK. This is in sharp contrast to the way he earlier in the month described a Chinese citizen who died soon after manifesting the symptoms. He claimed they are a Zimbabwean national from Mutare.

Earlier this month, he lied as he labelled the Chinese woman, a Mutare community member. He announced saying “a Mutare woman who returned from China on 24 January, presented to her GP on 6 March complaining of shortness of breath.” She died within a day.

Namibian Police Hunt Down Zimbabwean

Police chase…Zimbabwean Lengton Meki

Police in the Oshana region, Namibia, are looking for a Zimbabwean man wanted in connection with the investigation of an incident in which a man was allegedly killed at Oshakati over a taxi fare of N$20 on Sunday.

The police are looking for the 41-year-old Lengton Meki, and need help from the public to trace him, Oshana regional police spokesperson inspector Thomas Aiyambo said on Monday.

Meki is wanted in connection with the police’s investigation of the death of a 51-year-old man, Chipuriro Botham, who was killed at Uupindi location in Oshakati West at around 23h40 on Sunday.

Botham, who is also a Zimbabwean, was allegedly killed when he was struck with a brick during an argument over a taxi fare of N$20, Aiyambo indicated. Botham’s assailant fled from the scene after the incident.

Aiyambo said anyone with information that could assist the police in tracing Meki should contact the Oshakati Police Station at 081 363 0666, the Ongwediva Police Station at 081 387 3555, or the Ondangwa Police Station at 081 402 9009. — The Namibian.

Load Shedding Will Stop, Says Chasi

Fortune Chasi

Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune Chasi has attributed the abrupt increase in load shedding experienced over the past few days to a fault at Hwange Power Station.

Though the supply of electricity had generally improved since the beginning of the year, the past few days saw people experiencing 10 to 14 hours across Bulawayo without power.

In Entumbane and Trenance suburbs they spent 14 hours without electricity on Wednesday and Thursday. In Richmond suburb they spent about 10 hours over the same days with no power.
Speaking at a Press conference at a Bulawayo hotel yesterday, Minister Chasi said the load shedding is temporary as work is underway to bring the two units back online.

“Generally, there is an upward trend in the supply of electricity and the trend will continue in that way. Currently there are two units which broke down at Hwange Power Station and we are very hopeful that they will be brought online very soon,” said Minister Chasi.

He added that less electricity should be expected from Kariba Hydro Power Station due to low water level at Lake Kariba.

“There have been inflows into the dam but we don’t want to begin to use that water at the moment because we are in a water conservation mode which is currently at 12 percent. We obviously need to grow that water significantly for power generation. We are happy that the rains up north are resulting in inflows and we need much more rains in order to be comfortable to go back to relying on Kariba,” said Minister Chasi. Chronicle/state media

Mayor Who Sued Chamisa Withdraws Case

Somvelo Dlamini

Fired Victoria Falls Mayor, Councillor Somvelo Dlamini who recently approached the High Court challenging the MDC Alliance’s decision to recall him, has withdrawn the lawsuit.

Clr Dlamini was fired by the opposition party leadership on allegations of violating party rules.

In his court application, the fired mayor had cited the opposition party leader Nelson Chamisa, the party’s secretary general Mr Charlton Hwende, the party provincial chairperson Mr Prince Dubeko Sibanda, Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo, MDC-Alliance, MDC and the Victoria Falls Municipality as respondents.

Clr Dlamini filed a notice of withdrawal at the Bulawayo High Court on Monday. The reasons of withdrawal were however not stated in court papers.

“Be pleased to take notice that the applicant hereby withdraws this application and that with consent of first, second, third, fourth and fifth respondents each to pay their own costs,” read the notice of withdrawal.

Clr Dlamini, however, indicated that he would tender Minister Moyo’s costs.

The MDC Alliance accused Clr Dlamini of refusing to resign from his position as Victoria Falls mayor to pave way for the party’s preferred candidate Clr Margaret Valley of Ward 1.

The party alleges that Clr Dlamini defied the party directive when he stood as a candidate and defeated Clr Valley by eight votes to three.

Mr Hwende wrote to Clr Dlamini on February 24 this year advising him about the decision of the party’s national council to terminate his membership and remove him as the resort town’s mayor and ward 9 councillor. The letter which was copied to Mr Sibanda and Victoria Falls Municipality said Clr Dlamini had violated party instructions.

“Your expulsion is in terms of article 5.11(a) of the Movement for Democratic Change constitution as read with the unanimous national council resolution of 23rd November 2018. Consequently, the party is immediately invoking the provisions of Section 278 (1) of the Zimbabwe Constitution as read with Section 129 of the same to have you removed from the position of councillor of the Victoria Falls Municipality,” reads part of the letter.

It is the third time that the Chamisa-led party has fired Clr Dlamini after expelling him from the party twice in 2018 before reinstating him for allegedly defying his superiors’ decision not to stand for election as Victoria Falls mayor to pave way for Clr Valley.

Clr Dlamini argued that his dismissal from both the party and council was in violation of his constitutional rights as he was never brought before a disciplinary hearing. “I was never charged of any act of misconduct in terms of the MDC Alliance’s constitution. The law clearly states that where an adverse administrative decision is to be taken against me I ought to be given an opportunity to make representations but in this case I was neither afforded such an opportunity nor furnished with any reasons thereof,” he said.

Clr Dlamini said in terms of section 129 (1) (k) as read with section 278 of the constitution of Zimbabwe, he could not be recalled by the MDC- Alliance, arguing that at the time of his election, the party on whose ticket he was elected was MDC.

He said he was together with Masvingo and Chegutu mayors asked to step down since they were elected under the same circumstances.

“However, my colleagues from Masvingo and Chegutu have not be recalled while I am being recalled. I am therefore subjected to unfair discriminatory conduct which is against the constitution of Zimbabwe. The fourth respondent’s actions of showing racial discrimination in saying I must resign from being mayor of Victoria Falls to pave way for his preferred losing candidate Clr Varley is against the ethos of equality among the people of different races,” he said.

Clr Dlamini is also facing charges of abuse of office after he allegedly forged title deeds of a housing stand in 2013 before illegally selling it for US$20 000. The matter is still pending before the courts. Chronicle/state media

PTUZ Statement On Early Closure Of Schools

School Classroom

By Takavafira Zhou( PTUZ president)

Yes, it’s now official that schools are closing earlier than had been enunciated by President Mnangagwa.

The health and safety of teachers and pupils matter.

Zanu PF Accused Of Imposing Sanctions On Zimbabweans

Farai Dziva|Zanu PF must respect basic democratic principles before calling for the removal of targeted restrictive measures, MDC has said.

The opposition party distanced itself from Glen View South MP Vincent Tsvangirai’s remarks about sanctions.

MDC spokesperson, Daniel Molokele, quoted by Daily News said Vincent Tsvangirai’s position was not the party’s position.

“What Honourable Tsvangirai said is not the party’s position.

As the people’s party, the MDC remains clear and unequivocal in its stance.

We are more focused on the lifting of ‘domestic sanctions’ that the illegitimate regime has imposed on the long-suffering people of Zimbabwe.

Zanu PF must focus on opening up the democratic space at home first, and then the so-called international sanctions will naturally fall away.

Those are not economic sanctions, but they are targeted at individuals who are violating human rights.”

BREAKING: Armed Soldiers Kidnap Female MDC Leader

By Farai D Hove| Armed soldiers and police Friday night reportedly besieged and kidnapped a female MDC youth leader in Mbizo.

Armed police and the military Friday night descended on Mbizo following a march by youths who were expressing their anger with the Munangagwa administration, the report began.

It continued saying: They have since besieged the residence of the MDC Youth Assembly Provincial Chairperson Sekai Marashe aka Muchaina .

The police came with a dongfeng and police dogs heavily armed with teargas and button sticks and guns. They went on to disperse people at the Mbizo 4 shops forcing traders to close early.

Zanu PF Official Rapes Mentally Challenged Woman, Threatens To Kill Her

A ZANU PF councillor for ward 13 in Chipinge will spend the next 12 years in jail for raping a mentally-challenged patient, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, on three different occasions after threatening her with death.

David Chivhovho (49), who resides in Chief Mutema’s area, pleaded not guilty to the charges, but was convicted by Chipinge regional magistrate Chrispen Maturure.

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, of which three years were conditionally suspended for five years.

Prosecutor Tembelani Dhliwayo told the court that sometime last month, Chivhovho went to the complainant’s homestead and found her carrying out her household chores.

He demanded sex from her, but she refused and he dragged her into her bedroom hut and raped her once. On another date but in the same month, he found her alone in her bedroom hut.
Chivhovho again demanded sex from her, but she refused and he pinned her to the ground, threatening her with death.

Out of fear, the complainant complied and he went on to rape her before he left the homestead unnoticed and ordered her not to tell anyone about the issue.

Using the same modus operandi, Chivhovho again in the same month demanded sex from her, but she refused.

Chivhovho went on to pull her by her blouse and dragged her into her bedroom hut.
While inside, he raped her again. He left the homestead after threatening to kill her if she divulged the incident to anyone.

However, the matter came to light after she advised other villagers about her abuse at the hands of Chivhovho.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to his arrest.

OBADIAH MOYO SAYS ZIMBABWE’S CORONAVIRUS CAME FROM BRITAIN | TRUTH or PURE NONSENSE?

South Africa Airways have announced that the company is immediately suspending all regional and international operations until the end of May in response to a government travel ban aimed at stopping the transmission of Covid-19.

In support of efforts by government to in dealing with this pandemic, and in the best interests of our crew, passengers and the public, we have decided to suspend all international and regional flights until 31 May 2020.

It is a responsibility of all of us and not just government to curb further transmission of the virus. Especially because we operate in the high-risk regions.

Coronavirus cases had arisen to 202 by Friday.

Zim Dollar To Stay-Mnangagwa

President Mnangagwa on Wednesday stressed that land reform was irreversible and the Government would not substitute the local currency — the Zimbabwe dollar — despite machinations to destabilise and destroy it.

He made the remarks when he addressed a rally at Bumhira Secondary School in Nyanga North after having commissioned Nyakomba Irrigation Scheme earlier in the day.

President Mnangagwa’s remarks come in the wake of a recent move by the Government to enact a law which invoked a clause stating that indigenous farmers whose farms were appropriated by Government under the Fast-Track Land Reform Programme can now apply to repossess their land under the newly-gazetted regulations.

Farms which were protected under Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion Agreements (BIPPAs) and Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs), including those owned by indigenous corporates, could also be returned to their previous owners upon application for repossession.

Interestingly, the clause did not seem to go well with MDC-Alliance legislators, Tendai Biti and Innocent Gonese who on Wednesday challenged Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi and Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Deputy Minister Vangelis Haritatos to explain why they were returning land to white former farmers.

The move was a surprise climbdown from the MDC’s original stance on the land reform, which their party had always objected to and even sought the intervention of Western governments through the imposition of sanctions.

In terms of Statutory Instrument 62 of 2020 — Land Commission (Gazetted Land) (Disposal in Lieu of Compensation) Regulations, 2020 — former landowners under these categories can either opt for repossession or monetary compensation.

The President said the country had sanctions imposed on it for repossessing its land.

“They have imposed sanctions on us because we repossessed our land. Let me be categorically clear that the land reform programme is irrevocable. Our people got their land back, with or without hunger; with or without bumper harvests we took back our land. We will have our land forever.

“Nothing will change that. Nobody will remove us from our land. So those who want to re-engage with us must admit that the land of Zimbabwe belongs to the people of Zimbabwe.

There is no negotiation on that issue. We went to war because of the land. The land is the heritage for our future generation. We must teach our children to be patriotic.

Our children should love their country just as Americans and Chinese love their countries,” he said.-State media

Andy Muridzo Takes New Lover to Muchakata

CONTROVERSIAL musician Andy Muridzo has yet another lover in his life, and she is preg_nant!

Both the musician and his manager confirmed the development, promising to traditionally marry the beauty next month.

H-Metro caught Muridzo with the new woman, Tasha Green, in a r0mantic moment in a car hours before his show at Muchakata Night Club in Kuwadzana 5.

“Ndiye murora wenyu uyu (Zimbabwe), here is your daughter in law, she is called Tasha Green, she is coloured and does not speak Shona,” confessed Muridzo.

The dreadlocked musician however disputed claims that his lover is behind his trip to UK.

“No, I am being invited to UK by the promoters, this tour is not for shows, it is just a Meet And Greet, Barbeque chi-chi-chi- de-de-de-de, and listen, to all those willing to do their own controversies they must now know that, ‘the yellow born na my own, this yellow born na ma wife now, she is mine this yellow born’” he said before kissing her.

His manager Onismos confirmed the latest development, “Yes it is true that Andy Muridzo now has a girl of his age for marriage whom we are going to marry sometime around April 2020. Muridzo, after his affair with Nyari, said to us he was now settling down for a serious relationship with a girl of his age, who tolerates his profession’s ups and downs because music is like a cruising ship, waves visit it often, but it gets steady with time,” he said.

“Muridzo never slept with any girl after leaving Nyarai, but we do not talk, we do not comment on all flies that pass our tables. Often, we just look at these funny social media posts and proceed musically.

“After his affair with Nyarai, who is now a closed childish chapter, that was when he met and settled with Miss Green. Ndiye mukadzi wedu wezera redu uyu.

“To show that Muridzo’s promise to get married to Green was true, she is about four months preg_nant now, we have so far limited him to move around with his fiance.

“Muridzo’s life style is no longer like kare kaye, he personally changed himself into a serious Muridzo, and we are also happy that we want to make our ever loyal following happy too by paying lobola in April because Andy said, ‘guys I want to live a proper life now’,” said the manager.

“I think by April US$4000 Lobola in value must be paid up. I am just still not comfortable to publicly go about it because tinozoripiswa futi nana tezvara, remember we have not yet paid lobola yet,” said Onismos.

Mnangagwa Orders Closure Of Schools, Colleges

All schools, colleges and universities must close next Tuesday as the Government steps up efforts to ensure any outbreak of coronavirus in Zimbabwe is controlled and minimised.

So far, no case has been confirmed yet.

While originally the Government was prepared to let the normal term end, President Mnangagwa yesterday said, in a statement, that the Government’s new decision was informed by concerns raised by parents and the education sector.

The President said while Zimbabwe had not recorded any case of the virus to date, Government thought it prudent to err on the side of caution, more so since teaching institutions had high levels of human concentration and contact.

“The decision is part of the general precautionary measures the country is taking in light of the worldwide outbreak and rapid spread of the coronavirus,” he said.

On Tuesday, President Mnangagwa said Government would advise on dates for the reopening of all schools and colleges in the country once the threat of the virus is judged to have receded.

He said March 24 should allow for an orderly closure of the institutions and for parents to arrange for the safe travel of pupils and students to their homes.-State media

“Mnangagwa, Holding A Rally In The Midst Of This Scare Is Being Heartless And Selfish.”

Dr Maxwell Web Shumba

Own Correspondent|ZimFirst Leader Maxwell Zeb Shumba has expressed dismay over President Emmerson Mnangagwa and some churches’ defiance to both government and health experts warning for people to stop mass gatherings.

Below is full text of Shumba’s outburst posted on his Facebook page.

Very Disturbing! All the parent Churches in Western Countries are taking heed of the advice of experts on need to social distance to help contain the dissemination of the Corona Virus by canceling church service and mass. What do off-shoot of these churches and other religious mushrooms in Zimbabwe do?

They dismiss expert advice and continue to gather dangerously and selfishly exposing people to a virus that has no cure at a time when our healthcare system is in comatose. To all religious practitioners who continue to recklessly continue to call people to prayer gatherings, please take heed of expert advice, stay at home or social distance and save the your life and the lives of your congregants.

Religious zealotry is equally dangerous. So stop it. Enough of the hogwash that prayer will stop the spread of the virus . Stop it!

Same applies to President ED- holding a rallies in the midst of this scare is heartless and selfish. For example the Nyanga rally you held a day after you had declared an emergency shows how hypocritical and lack of regard of your own laws and human life you and your party are. This is no way to run a nation. Think of the people of Zimbabwe first.

The rest of the nation please take heed. Please take heed I reiterate .

See-All flights out of Zimbabwe are departing full to capacity with people escaping Zimbabwe. Why? Because they say if the virus hit shore (Zimbabwe) the results will be horrifying given the untenable state of the country’s healthcare system.

Thank you

Election Watchdog Says MDC Fails To Match ZANU PF In Rural By Elections

ZESN

Research into recently held by-elections in Chimanimani and Mangwe by the Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) has shown that the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)’s campaigns in both wards were “low key” compared to those of the ruling ZANU PF.

In its report, the ZESN has established that, unlike the MDC, ZANU PF sent senior party officials to preside over rallies in both wards, with Senator for Chimanimani, Monica Mutsvangwa and the ZANU-PF National Political Commissar, Victor Matemadanda making their campaign vibrant.

Last week, Zanu PF enhanced its grip on the rural vote after retaining the Chimanimani Ward 16 council seat in a by-election with its candidate Charles Chinamira amassed 1 589 votes against MDC’s Erasmus Brightwell Murada who got only 231 votes.

On the same day, ruling party candidate Ndlovu Onthibile won with 339 in Mangwe against opposition’s Phuthi Sindisiwe who lost with 201 votes.

ZESN report has accused the opposition party for “low key” campaigns and failure to comprehensively deploy its agents in both wards.

“While ZANU-PF and MDC-Alliance contested both by-elections, only ZANU PF campaigns were more visible. ZESN observers reported that MDC Alliance campaigns in both wards were ‘low key’.

“ZANU-PF campaigns on the other hand were reported to be more vibrant. The party’s rallies were addressed by senior party officials.

“For instance in Chimanimani ward 16, Senator for Chimanimani, Monica Mutsvangwa and the ZANU-PF National Political Commissar, Victor Matemadanda and the Member of Parliament for Chimanimani East Constituency, Joshua Sacco addressed the rally that was held at Duri Business Centre

“On election-day ZESN observers reported that polling stations opened on time with all the essential polling materials and due processes were followed in accordance with laid out procedures.

“ZANU-PF comprehensively deployed party agents in both by-elections, while the MDC Alliance only did so in Mangwe. In Chimanimani the MDC Alliance only had party agents at two of the 5 polling stations where ZESN had static observers” read the report.

MDC has been finding it difficult to win the rural vote with and it admits that it is supposed to up its game to dislodge ZANU PF from power.

However, MDC National Secretary for Elections, Jacob Mafume said: “The call for political and electoral reform is more significant now than before.

“The By-elections in Chimanimani and Mangwe both had irregularities, a skewed environment with absence of remedies for all the MDC’s calls for redress.”

“That Zanu PF declares some places no go areas is unlawful and unacceptable in a modern society. MDC polling agents were violently chased away by Zanu PF vigilantes at four polling stations in Chimanimani, exactly the same way it happened in the 2018 election,” Mafume said.

Meanwhile, the ZESN revealed that there was low voter turnout in the by-elections where it was below 50%. Turnout was 46% and 42% for Chimanimani and Mangwe respectively.

The report cited the following recommendations for the political parties:

1) Political parties should comprehensively deploy party agents during by-elections so that they can authoritatively comment on the voting process. iii. Political parties should mobilise their supporters to register as this will assist ZEC’s task of re-aligning constituency boundaries which have experienced vast demographic changes since the last (2008) delimitation exercise.

2) ZESN is of the opinion that all electoral stakeholders, including political parties need to do more to mobilise voters in their respective constituencies to register to vote and not wait for the periodic voter registration blitz that is conducted by ZEC at different intervals.

3) In light of the impending boundary delimitation exercise it is pertinent that political parties mobilise their supporters to register as this will assist ZEC’s task of re-aligning constituency boundaries which have experienced vast demographic changes since the last delimitation exercise which was conducted in 2008. War Veterans Literally Demand To Be Left To Run The Country

ZIMBABWE’S war veterans have demanded high government office posts and want legislators in both the National Assembly and Senate to sing the national anthem before the beginning of each parliamentary sitting.

Parliamentary Portfolio Committee of Defence and Home Affairs chairperson Levi Mayihlome made the revelations on Tuesday when he presented a report on the Veterans of the Liberations Struggle Bill which is currently at second reading stage in the National Assembly.

The Bill, gazetted in September 2019, seeks to repeal the War Veterans Act (Chapter 11:15), the Ex-Political Prisoners Detainees and Restrictees Act (Chapter 17:10) and provide for one consolidated Act called the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Act.

Parliament sessions usually begin with a prayer which is read by the Speaker of the National Assembly and Senate president.

“War veterans are concerned that the national anthem is not sung at the beginning of each parliamentary sitting in both the National Assembly and Senate,” Mayihlome said.

Those employed in government also want immediate promotion to lofty posts in government where they are employed to boost their retirement and pension benefits.

The ex-combatants are also demanding a 20% quota share in Parliament, State institutions and in the recruitment of their children in the army, police and other State institutions.

The report on public hearings held in January also shows that ex-combatants demanded diplomatic passports, comprehensive medical cover “by a reputable medical aid company”, exemption in paying land tax, vehicle import duty and tollgate fees, among other benefits.

“A proposal was made to include a clause on automatic promotion of veterans of the liberation struggle currently working in government institutions. They suggested that serving members due for retirement should be promoted one step up in order to boost their retirement packages and pension benefits, as is the case with retiring military personnel,” Mayihlome told parliamentarians on Tuesday.

The Bill also provides for all categories of veterans of the liberation struggle who are provided for in section 23 of the Constitution as “those who fought, those who assisted and those who were imprisoned, detained or restricted”.

“The veterans of the liberation struggle called for the Bill to have a clause which clearly states that there should be a 20% quota for war veterans in Parliament and all government institutions, as is the case with women and youth … will ensure that their welfare concerns are fully addressed, while at the same time safeguarding revolutionary values and interests,” Mayihlome added.

“Another proposal made in honour of veterans benefitting posthumously was that 20% of their children, including those of living veterans, should be offered jobs by the Public Service Commission. To this end, a call was made to incorporate a clause to read, ‘Employment of children of veterans of the liberation struggle in the public service, that is, the Zimbabwe National Army, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Prisons Services and other government institutions’.”

The ex-combatants are also demanding that a 20% quota of the presidential and other national scholarship schemes be reserved for their children and dependants of veterans of the liberation struggle. War veterans also said “…the Bill should incorporate a clause to address issues of exhumation of those who perished during the liberation struggle.

“They claimed that the State should take maximum responsibility on identifying the deceased and spearheading the exhumation process, thereby rendering them decent reburial at the Heroes’ Acre or their respective home shrines,” Mayihlome said.

“The same clause should seek to address gaps on adherence and reverence to cultural practices such as traditional cleansing in order to appease and put to rest the spirits of fallen heroes and heroines whose remains lie neglected either in foreign lands or from within our borders.

“War veterans called for the Bill to have a clause wherein the liberation fighters will be recognised and honoured through awarding of bravery medals as is the case with chiefs … to accord due respect, honour and recognition to veterans of the liberation struggle. In addition, new identity cards should be processed and given to each veteran of the liberation struggle.”

In 2011, exhumations of fallen ex-combatants allegedly belonging to Zanla were initially carried out by members of the Fallen Heroes Trust, a group linked to the ruling Zanu PF party, before government officials took over.

Zanla was the military wing of Zanu during the liberation struggle. The High Court stopped the exhumations following a court challenge by Zipra guerrilla war fighters. Newsday

Zimbabwean Rape Accused Brutally Murders A South African Police Arresting Him.

Correspondent|Police are looking for a suspected Zimbabwean national accused of hacking a police officer to death with a short machete while he was being arrested for allegedly raping his niece.

Simon Matakura is said to have hacked Warrant Officer Thinandavha Stanley Mudau who was investigating a case of rape against him for allegedly raping a 17-year-old relative.

Hawks Limpopo spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said Warrant Officer Thinandavha Stanley Mudau, 52, was assisting the teenager when he was attacked on Sunday.

“Mudau, who was attached to the Thohoyandou Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit, met with a female rape victim, aged 17, at his offices. The victim… informed Mudau that she was raped allegedly by her relative.

“Mudau took the victim to the police station to assist her with opening a rape case. Along the way, he decided to go via [the suspect’s] place in Sibasa outside Thohoyandou.

“Upon arrival at the suspect’s place, Mudau was abruptly attacked by the suspect with a panga, killing him instantly,” Maluleke said.

The rape victim was also attacked and was being treated in hospital.

“The Land Reform Programme Is Final and Irreversible,”

Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri

Government will not return land to the white former commercial farmers but only to the indigenous farmers and those that were under the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA) who were affected during the land reform, Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri has said.

Minister Shiri was explaining the Statutory Instrument 62 of 2020 which was recently gazetted.

The SI had brought misconceptions and misinterpretations with some people insisting that Government was giving land back to the white former commercial farmers.

Clarifying the SI at his Ngungunyana offices this afternoon, Minister Perrance Shiri said the land reform was irreversible.

“The Land Reform Programme is final and irreversible. Any sentiments to the contrary are false and are to be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.

“It is false to say that there is an intention to return land to the previous white commercial farmers and reverse the gains of the land reform. It is equally false to state that the SI is designed to evade paying compensation to indigenous farmers rather it creates an avenue for these farmers to exercise that option to acquire title and continue with farming activities or opt for compensation.

“The development of the Statutory instrument in question was guided by constitutional provisions:

“Section 72 which provides for the rights to agricultural land and the vesting of all agriculture land in the State, section 289 which provides the guiding policy on agricultural land, section 290 which provides for the continued vesting of agricultural land in the State, section 293 which provides for the alienation of land by state including the alienation for value, transfer of ownership and lease of agricultural land and section 295 which provides for the compensation of indigenous Zimbabweans whose agricultural land was acquired and person whose agricultural land was protected by a Government to Government agreement at the time of acquisition,” he said.

A committee will be put in place to deal with all applications for compensation and considerations will be made in line with the SI.

Another Legendary African Musician Dies.

FIFA Banned Tobacco Advertising In Football, Why Is Dynamos Being Sponsored By A Cigarette Company?

Explained: Reason Fifa won’t dismiss Dynamos’ new tobacco deal

On Thursday Dynamos announced new terms to their existing deal with Gold Leaf Tobacco, but there have been massive concerns if whether this will attract Fifa’s attention.

According to the agreement, the deal will see supporters playing an active role in pushing sales and awareness for the Remington Gold cigarette brand and in turn getting rewards for the purchase and sale.

Though the initiative provides an opportunity for the club and fans to benefit, this has been met with concerns in other sections as there is a belief Fifa would hit the Harare giants with sanctions.

Of course, Fifa maintains a strict stance on tobacco marketing but their restrictions have limits. The football body doesn’t have extensive influence in the running of local leagues and clubs, and this explains why Dynamos agreed to the latest terms of their sponsorship deal with Gold Leaf Tobacco.

Fifa’s Tobacco-free policy only applies to Fifa events such as World Cup tournaments and the qualifiers.

This will not have any impact in our local leagues as PSL and Zifa are the ones responsible for running the affairs. If the two organisations have not set-up the guidelines prohibiting tobacco marketing of any sort then nothing will be opposed in Dembare’s new deal unless health professionals try to fight it elsewhere.

The case is similar to that which happened in England seven years ago when Derby County signed a sponsorship deal with an electronic cigarette company.

Under the partnership, sample E-Lites e-cigarettes would be given to fans at the stadium on some match-days.

The deal only faced resistance from health activists.

Sekuru Banda Brings Old Foes Kapfupi, Marabha Together

By Own Correspondent| Philanthropist traditional healer, Sekuru Banda has successfully reconciled celebrated street theatre actors Freddy Manjalima and Charles Milisi who became household names in the late 90s as Kapfupi and Marabha respectively.

The two actors’ relationship had broken down over what called irreconcilable differences with Kapfupi pursuing a solo music career while Marabha fell on hard times after being attacked by robbers.

Speaking to ZimEye, Sekuru Banda said he was moved to act as he strongly believes in the importance of living in peace and harmony.

“It’s not proper for one to go to sleep while holding a grudge against one another. When one gets angry against a person, you would have cursed yourself and the person you have a grudge against.

“That’s why bad omen is the order of the day among many people. It’s a result of keeping grudges against each other. The curse becomes worse when one party dies without having resolved the differences. It’s very important to settle matters when both parties are still alive. The soul of a person who dies while holding a grudge does not rest. As advice, let’s resolve any differences while we are still alive,” Sekuru Banda.

After realising that the popular comedians had split, Sekuru Banda took it upon himself to look for the two in the dusty streets of Epworth. Using leads from residents, he finally located them after sacrificing some time off his busy schedule.

Kapfupi revealed that it was Sekuru Banda who bought him his first set of musical instruments way back in 2002.

“I am humbled by Sekuru Banda’s generosity. He is like a father figure to me. In 2002 when I was involved in an accident and lost my musical instruments, Sekuru Banda came to my rescue after learning about my plight through the media. I have many other episodes in which I was helped by Sekuru Banda that I am not at liberty to divulge at the moment,” Kapfupi said, holding back some tears.

He appealed to Sekuru Banda to extend the same gesture to all the people in need.

The two artists promised their legions of fans to expect fireworks following their re-union.

Police Deputy Commissioner Unleashes His Own Militia To Reign Terror In His Home Area

Police Deputy Commissioner-General Learn Ncube

NewsDay|A vigilante group called the “Scorpions” has unleashed a reign of terror in Nhwali village in Gwanda, Matabeleland South province, where it is accused of viciously assaulting villagers and leaving many injured.

The Scorpions are reported to have the backing and protection of Police Deputy Commissioner-General Learn Ncube, who reportedly comes from Zongwani village in the area.

The gang emerged in the last quarter of 2019 as a neighbourhood watch committees whose duty was to eradicate crime in the area but has since morphed into a terror group that is now imposing dusk to dawn curfew in the area.

Nhlanhla Moyo, one of the victims, was discharged from Gwanda District Hospital on Thursday. He said:

It all happened around 9 pm when I was on my way home. I was accosted by the thugs, who accused me of not heeding to their curfew.

I was made to roll on the ground as they whipped me with a sjambok all over the body after which they used a hammer to break my leg.

Ncube however, professed ignorance about the Scorpions and referred the Southern Eye reporter to Matabeleland South provincial police. He said:

I am not aware of such cases, probably we also have a provincial spokesperson and officer commanding province, you can find out if they received such reports or you can still check with national spokesperson Assistant Commission (Paul) Nyathi.

What I know are cases of stock theft which happen there.

… as for the Scorpions you are asking about, I do not know anything about them.

Mother Versus Daughter In Fight Over Late ZANU PF Guru’s Estate

Kumbirai Kangai's widow

THE late former Zanu PF politburo member, Kumbirai Kangai’s widow, Miriam Kangai has won a High Court case against her step daughter, Mara Hativagone over distribution of the national hero’s estate.

Hativagone is Kangai’s eldest daughter from another relationship who in 2013, contested the decision by the Master of the High Court to authorise Miriam to use half of the money generated from the family business.

She approached the courts saying Miriam was not entitled to the 50% shareholding in Kangai’s business empire, Lunar Estates.

Hativagone, who is also former Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce president, sued the Master of High Court, Eldard Mutasa, for the authorisation which she claimed was made based on fraud.

But the High Court on Tuesday ruled in favour of Miriam. Her lawyer, Vote Muza said the court dismissed Hativagoni’s case and ruled that the national hero’s widow was the major shareholder of the estate.

Judge Justice Jacob Manzunzu ruled that she should retain her 50% shareholding, while the other 50% shares held through Luna Estates, was to be equally shared among the beneficiaries.  Kangai’s former Buhera constituency was allotted 10% shares.

“The case Mara Hativagone brought collapsed after she failed to prove that Mrs Kangai was not entitled to 50% shares in Luna Estates,” the lawyer told NewsDay.

“Mrs Kangai made an application for absolution from the instance which was granted by consent of the plaintiff meaning she agreed that with the fact that she had brought a hopeless case. The position ruled by the master in 2013 that Mrs Kangai was a 50% shareholder therefore stands.”

Muza added: “Almost all of the major assets were held through the company Luna Estates and only a few movables left as residue shall be shared equally between Mrs Kangai and the surviving children of which 10% will go to his former Buhera constituency.”

Since the death of the former Zanu PF politburo member, there has been a protracted fight over Kangai’s property between his wife and children who did not want the widow to access anything from the deceased’s estate.

At one time, Hativagone was reported to the police on allegations of tempering with Luna Estates company registration papers in a bid to elbow the widow from the company.

Man, Spared Prison After Killing Neighbour Who Had An Affair With Under Age Girl.

State Media|A MAN from Tsholotsho who fatally struck a neighbour with an iron bar for having an affair with his under-age niece has been sentenced to a wholly suspended five-year jail term.

Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo, on circuit in Hwange said Mthulisi Dube (38) of Mlotheni area acted in self defence when he attacked Ntobeko Mathunjwa (21) who had ganged up with other villagers to assault him.

Justice Moyo also said Dube was not fit to serve a jail term because of he was of ill health.

Before start of court proceedings, the judge checked if Dube, who looked frail, was fit to stand trial.

“The court considered that the accused acted in self defence as the deceased was the aggressor who ganged up with others to attack him. The court also considered the accused’s condition hence he is sentenced to five years in jail which is wholly suspended for five years on condition that he does not within that period commit an offence where violence is an element,” said Justice Moyo.

Dube, who was represented by Miss Charity Manyeza of Ndove and Associates pro-deo, had pleaded not guilty to murder and guilty to a lesser charge of culpable homicide.

Prosecuting, Mrs Martha Cheda said Dube armed himself with an iron bar intending to beat up Mathunjwa and Mr Millard Tshuma accusing them of having an affair with his 14-year-old niece who was in Form Two.

“On 31 August 2019 and at 6PM, the accused who was carrying a metal rod and Mr Musawenkosi Sibanda went to search for Mr Millard Tshuma who they accused of proposing love to their niece. They found Mr Tshuma at Makhaza Business Centre and confronted him. Mr Tshuma fled from the scene,” said Mrs Cheda.

Mathunjwa and Mr Given Moyo followed up on Dube and Mr Sibanda after being told about what had happened.

They caught up with Dube and Mr Sibanda along a footpath and charged at them. Seeing that Dube was armed, Mathunjwa and Mr Moyo fled, the court was told.

Dube and Mr Sibanda gave chase and caught up with Mathunjwa and struck him once on the head with an iron bar and left him bleeding.

Mathunjwa was rushed to Tsholotsho District Hospital by some villagers before being transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo where he died after admission. Doctors said Mathunjwa died of severe brain damage and skull fracture.

Health Experts Raise Alarm On Zimbabwe’s Readiness On Coronavirus

HEALTH experts have raised concern over the Zimbabwe’s lackadaisical approach towards coronavirus screening and detection, amid discord in the President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government on information regarding the deadly virus.

Confirmed cases of the coronavirus this week surpassed the 200 000 mark worldwide, with the World Health Organisation (WHO) urging countries to scale up testing of the virus.

Zimbabwe has been using the WHO case definition of a suspect case guidelines, possibly missing potential cases. This comes as a tourist who initially showed symptoms of the disease while in the country but was not tested because she did not meet the “case definition”, tested positive upon arrival in the United Kingdom.

Zimbabwe Doctors for Human Rights (ZDHR) said the guidelines had limited the number of people that were being tested.“The majority of people with Covid-19 are a symptomatic and will not meet this case definition. So there is a probability that we might be missing potential cases. Yesterday (Tuesday) WHO urged countries to increase testing more people and do contact tracing. So we urge government to test more people. However we have limited resources to test a lot of people. We have very few test kits donated by WHO, about 200 according to sources, so that’s a limiting factor,” ZDHR secretary general Norman Matara said.

He also pointed out the lack of protective clothing for the health personnel, which has made them reluctant to respond to possible cases.“We do not have adequate personal protective equipment for health workers especially in the provinces and districts. Health workers are not confident of their safety and are sceptical to respond to a suspected case,” he said.

“We also need management protocols to be taught to all the hospitals in Zimbabwe. From data from countries with high cases of Covid-19 we have learnt that about 20% of cases will require ICU admission. In Zimbabwe we have only four functional ICU beds in Harare. The identified isolation centres do not have ICU capability

“We also think that the government should put travel restrictions especially for countries with high prevalence of Covid-19. We also need a proper communication channel to dispel myths and misconceptions and also give the public information on Covid-19. We need a website and a hotline for people to access correct information. Overall we think the government is partly prepared to deal with an outbreak. These gaps need to be addressed for us to have confidence in the response mechanism.”

In his state of the nation address on Tuesday, Mnangagwa only discouraged travel to Zimbabwe by people from Covid-19 hit areas, banning gatherings of more than 100 people in the country.

He also said his government was in the process of identifying facilities that could work as isolation centres for the disease.“Kits and other accessories for screening, handling, testing and treatment continue to be availed. More isolation and treatment centres are being identified, designated and equipped appropriately,” Mnangagwa said.

Zimbabwe currently has 55 beds in the country’s main isolation centres at Wilkins Hospital in Harare and Thorngrove Hospital in Bulawayo.

Executive Director, Community Working Group on Health (CWGH) Itai Rusike described the country’s public health sector as very weak, poorly funded and poorly equipped to deal with a coronavirus outbreak given the low staff morale, perennial drug shortages, antiquated and obsolete equipment.

“The government needs to immediately implement strict measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) including imposing travel restrictions on foreign nationals from the high risk countries.

We were expecting President Emerson Mnangagwa to announce a total lockdown to combat the spread of the disease, such as closure of schools due to the overcrowding nature in public schools,” Rusike said.

“Yes, we do welcome the banning of the public gatherings by the government but if we don’t address the issue of overcrowding in public transportation especially the subsidized Zupco buses, availability of uninterrupted portable water supply for people to regularly wash their hands, protective gear for the health workers, test kits in our health institutions, availability of drugs and ambulance services then the president’s measures will be a futile attempt.”

He said government should recognise the importance of community participation is vital in dealing with Covid-19 pandemic.

“Openness in sharing the information on Covid-19 will allay fear, panic, stigma, discrimination and proliferation of false information that is happening as a result of lack of knowledge, information and awareness programmes on the causes, prevention, signs and symptoms of the Covid-19 disease. The general public just do not have adequate information on the disease hence their overreliance on social media and other unreliable sources of information,” Rusike said.

“This is a new disease and most of our health workers lacks confidence and are equally scared of COVID-19 and are also in need of capacity building and further training.”

Ministries in Mnangagwa’s government have been giving out contrasting information on the disease.Health minister Obadiah Moyo and Tourism minister Mangaliso Ndlovu this week gave contrasting information about the UK tourist who visited Victoria Falls this month. Moyo saying the tourist had tested positive for coronavirus days after leaving Zimbabwe, while Ndlovu said she had not.

Last month the ministries Health and Information clashed over a Thai traveller who at the time was suspected of having the coronavirus. The Information ministry revealed the person had met the WHO case definition while the Health ministry said the traveller had not been tested because of failure to meet the case definition.

FULL TEXT: RBZ Coronavirus Statement

As the public is now well aware, on 17 March 2020, Government declared the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic a national disaster. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to advance across the world, disrupting traditional provision of financial services.

Although the country has not yet recorded any confirmed cases of COVID-19, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (the Bank) is working closely with financial service providers under its purview and other stakeholders to monitor and take appropriate precautionary measures to support the economy and minimise the adverse impact of the pandemic on the banking and transacting public, banks’ staff and overall stability of the financial sector.

In order to ensure that banking and payment services continue to be available at all times, while promoting crowd containment and social distancing, financial service providers should ensure uninterrupted access to online banking and payment services including point of sale, international payments, real time gross settlement, mobile banking, mobile money payments and remittance services. The banking and transacting public is encouraged to optimise use of available electronic and online banking services which remain the safest and most secure forms of transacting.

All financial services providers should promote high standards of hygiene to mitigate or minimise any possible transmission and to safeguard the health of the banking and transacting public as well as banks’ staff. In this regard, financial service providers must stand ready to activate their business continuity and contingency plans, where necessary, to deal with any adverse operational events as they may occur.
The Bank will continue to monitor the developments in the financial services sector to ensure that the sector remains stable. – RBZ

EPL Statetement On Suspension Of League Matches

The English Premier League has confirmed that the 2019/20 season will be finished but extended a suspension on the games due to coronavirus.

The decision was made during a meeting attended by all top-flight clubs on Thursday.

In a statement, the League said the games will not be resumed on April 3 as initially declared. The new date has been set on 30th of the month. This would see the campaign reaching its end in July.

The developments are good news to Liverpool who are potentially one game away from mathematically being champions for the first time in three decades.

Here is a statement by the English Premier League regarding the suspension of the 2019/20 season games.

The FA, Premier League, EFL and women’s professional game, together with the PFA and LMA, understand we are in unprecedented times and our thoughts are with everyone affected by COVID-19.

We are united in our commitment to finding ways of resuming the 2019/20 football season and ensuring all domestic and European club league and cup matches are played as soon as it is safe and possible to do so.

We have collectively supported UEFA in postponing EURO 2020 to create space in the calendar to ensure domestic and European club league and cup matches have an increased opportunity to be played and, in doing so, maintain the integrity of each competition.

The FA’s Rules and Regulations state that “the season shall terminate not later than the 1 June” and “each competition shall, within the limit laid down by The FA, determine the length of its own playing season”.

However, The FA’s Board has agreed for this limit to be extended indefinitely for the 2019/20 season in relation to Professional Football.

Additionally, we have collectively agreed that the professional game in England will be further postponed until no earlier than 30 April.

The progress of COVID-19 remains unclear and we can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority. We will continue to follow Government advice and work collaboratively to keep the situation under review and explore all options available to find ways of resuming the season when the conditions allow.

We would all like to re-emphasise that our thoughts are with everyone affected by COVID-19.-Soccer 24

Lopez wanted the former footballer to participate in a charity event organised by Angel Brotherhood Foundation.

Chippa United Boss Attacks Mapeza

Farai Dziva|Chippa United boss Siviwe Mpengesi seems to have confirmed why Norman Mapeza left the club unceremoniously three weeks ago.

Several reports in South Africa and Zimbabwe suggested the gaffer was no longer happy due to the controlling attitude of his boss while it’s also believed there was a contractual row between the two.

A couple of reasons were said but it looks like Mpengesi has so far confirmed one which had to do with the players.

Mapeza was reported to have confronted some senior players over their behaviour off the pitch, but it didn’t go down well as they started to sabotage him.

The chairman was allegedly reluctant to take action and this infuriated the Zimbabwean.

In an interview with Timeslive newspaper, Mpengesi confirmed this by criticising long-serving midfielder Andile Mbenyane for ill discipline.

The player’s behavior has also led him to a collision course with new coach coach Rulani Mokwena.

“This shows that he hasn’t done enough for the club. In fact we have done a lot for him.

“We wish to see him retiring here at the club but if his behaviour doesn’t change then there is little that we can do.

“We want to him be like the Hlompho Kekanas of this world and finish his career with us.

“We are sick and tired of people blaming us or us having to fire coaches while certain players are sitting there and just enjoying themselves.”

Mapeza is now in Zimbabwe and no information of returning to management has so far been said.

Tragedy As Form One Pupil Kills Self Over Missing $ 5 USD

A 14-year-old girl from Kwekwe committed suicide by taking poison after she was allegedly confronted over a missing US$5.

The teenager, who was in Form 1 at Manunure High School in Mbizo, downed a bottle of pesticide after her grandmother allegedly confronted her over a missing US$5.

The girl was found by her grandmother in a pool of blood, at their home in Mbizo 10 and was rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital where she died upon admission.

Kwekwe District schools inspector Bernard Mazambani could not readily confirm the incident saying he was out of town for the whole week.

Officer Commanding Kwekwe Police Chief Superintendent Conrad Mubaiwa also said he was out of town and was yet to receive the report.

This news crew, however, attended the funeral at Mbizo 10 cemetery on Sunday.

A sombre atmosphere engulfed the burial with relatives, schoolmates and neighbours seemingly yet to come to terms with the sudden death.

Sources, however, who spoke to this news crew on condition of anonymity claimed that the now deceased died on Friday afternoon as soon as she returned from school.

“She took poison after her grandmother confronted her over a missing US$5 note. We are not sure what the grandmother said to her and she told her that she could not take the “abuse” anymore.

At first everyone thought she was joking but moments later, we learnt of the sad news,” said a source who refused to be named.

Another source said the now deceased had a misunderstanding while at school with a classmate, who also happened to be her neighbour.

“She had a fight with her neighbour’s child at school where they exchanged painful and personal words.

They later came home and told their elders about the issue. Upon confronting her, she bolted out of the house making suicidal threats but no one took her seriously,” said a source.

“She later came back and stood outside telling them that she had drunk the poison and was now waiting to die, but again nobody took her seriously,” further explained the source.

The girl was later found lying in a pool of blood, bleeding from the mouth and nose and rushed to hospital where she died upon admission.-B-Metro

Teachers Happy With Early Closure Of Schools

By Takavafira Zhou( PTUZ president)

Yes, it’s now official that schools are closing earlier than had been enunciated by President Mnangagwa.

The health and safety of teachers and pupils matter.

Zanu PF Has Imposed “Domestic Sanctions” On Zimbabweans- MDC

MDC Clears Air On Vincent Tsvangirai Remarks

“Prison Is The Safest Place From Coronavirus” Says ED. True or False?

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said that prisons are the safest places for people to be amid the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) across the world.

This comes on the back of cabinet approving the release of over 6 000 inmates serving jail time for various non-violent crimes.

Responding to a question from a reporter if the amnesty would go ahead amid coronavirus fears, Mnangagwa said the amnesty is not related to measures that have been put in place to curb the spread of the disease. Said Mnangagwa

The amnesty program has no relationship with the pandemic. In other measures, we are discouraging people from visiting their loved ones in prisons, that will be restricted. If there is a safer place now, it is the prison.

Zimbabwe’s prisons have a carrying capacity of 17 000 people but currently are home to 22 000 inmates.

A few months after becoming President, Mnangagwa granted amnesty to 3 000 prisoners in a bid to decongest prisons.

Zanu PF Official Rapes Mentally Challenged Woman

The Shona Peoples Learning Hard Facts About Zanu PF Mentality

By Nomazulu Thata| Listening to the video circulating around, young people all from Mashonaland are openly lamenting Mnangagwa’s recent hate speech on what he knows best:

NOMAZULU-THATA

…rounding people up with cockroaches in their homes. These young people are struggling with Mnangagwa’s statement and appear immensely troubled, trying to understand with all their intellectual might and analytical political capabilities what Mnangagwa must have meant by rounding up people who have cockroaches in their homes. On the other hand, people in Matabeleland did not react to this insult much in comparison to these youths exclusively from the region of Mashonaland who took part in interview (19.03.2020) regarding Mnangagwa’s well known tactics of eliminating dissenting political parties that pose a threat to Zanu PF government. This time around it is MDC-Alliance.

Interestingly these youths who were interviewed continued to refer Mnangagwa’s hate speeches he recently made with his hate-utterances against the peoples of Matabeleland and Midlands in the early 1980s when he served as Minister of Security in Zanu PF government. There is concrete evidence in documents and Zimbabwe newspapers of Mnangagwa calling the peoples of Matabeleland cockroaches during the Gukurahundi atrocities and Mnangagwa cannot deny this by any account; they said. The peoples of Matabeleland have been insulted for so long without a sorry or any semblance of contrition regarding the genocide, rape, displacements of families and loss of livelihoods of the genocide atrocities immediately after independence, so what should shock them now when supposedly a President of the country continues to utter those insults they have been hearing since independence.

“We wonder what mukuru is referring to when he talks about eradicating cockroaches in our homes. Are cockroaches MDC people in this case, MDC like Matabeleland Zapu were first reduced to name-callings as lice and cockroaches to be able to eliminate them Gukurahundi style: The Fifth Brigade killing frenzy.” Another young man who was interviewed said: “Mukuru is failing the people of Zimbabwe, he has no clue how he is going to turn around the economy of this country. The economy is his enemy and not the MDC people. Mnangagwa should fix the economy and not threaten people because of failed economy.”

Since the inception of this great country, the problem in Zimbabwe is the tribal polarization of ethnic groups and races. When Zanu PF went on a killing frenzy in Matabeleland, the peoples of Mashonaland looked on unsympathetic to Gukurahundi killings and rape, and destruction that was taking place in Matabeleland wholly knowledgeable to the public through the social media. One can say with equal truth that to some extent the peoples of Mashonaland were agreeable to what the Mugabe government was doing, murdering Matabeleland people cold blood. The people of Mashonaland were interviewed on several social media calling for the public hanging of Joshua Nkomo as the main source of trouble and leader of dissident’s activities in the region. Nkomo was quick to prophesy that; what is happening to the people of Matabeleland today will one day happen to the peoples of Mashonaland equally. Zanu PF was going to kill maim, rape the peoples of Mashonaland too; he said. We have seen this prophesy on several occasions in history of Zimbabwe.

We remember to this day how radio live shows were conducted by the Zimbabwe government propaganda machines that continued to call all the peoples of Matabeleland dissidents. “Ko dissident chii? Was the question from the radio presenter: The answer that was given, had a price tag with it and was in cash on the spot. “Dissident Mundeere” With the benefit of hindsight, it was like seeing a child playing with fire and one looks on.

With the benefit of hindsight, the peoples of Mashonaland should have known that this kind of rhetoric is not nation-building but self-destructive. Violence begets violence, so they say. This glorification of violence of any kind and magnitude can, in the long run, turn against them the peoples of Mashonaland and this has happened in several occasions. That was the prophesy of Joshua Nkomo back then in the early 1983 – 4; today in 2020 we see this same set of hate speeches used on the peoples of Mashonaland by none either than Zanu PF and by the same thug: perpetrator of genocide in Matabeleland and Midlands between 1983 and 1987, Dambudzo Mnangagwa, second President of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

In the same vein, it should be said that when the Gukurahundi atrocities were taking place in Matabeleland and Midlands, the white Zimbabweans distanced themselves from these atrocities altogether. The was no profound sympathy coming from the white Rhodesians towards the Ndebele peoples who were butchered to death unarmed and unprotected.

The Lancaster Agreement to a good extent protected them from any retribution and they were aware of this clause that Cousin Margaret Thatcher curved for them as protection measure. The white Zimbabweans indeed turned their backs and it was “seeing no evil:” the black-black massacres have nothing to do with the white settlers! are squaring their own inherent grievances of yester year!!

For 20 years Mugabe and Zanu PF were a darling to the peoples of Mashonaland. Until the end of the Millennium, the peoples of Mashonaland regions hero-worshipped Mugabe Zanu PF government to the level of madness. On the other hand, the peoples of Matabeleland did not even benefit from the unity accord of 1987 but remained marginalized to this day. The Zanu PF had no idea about how the government is run and already by mid1990s the country was is debt: foreign and domestic debt because of corruption and failed priorities of Zanu PF. Mugabe mistook himself for a world superpower President by sending his soldiers to the Democratic Republic of Congo to quell Tutsi insurgencies that had nothing to do with the Zimbabwe government. The government was spending one million US a day to maintain the war in the Congo. It escaped Zanu PF and Mugabe that they were a developing country that had no capacity to interfere with problems in other countries and even giving military assistance at the cost of the Zimbabwe treasury.

In the 1990s, Zimbabwe was dependent on the remittances from the British government since 1980, what one could call it, colonial guilt payments. These remittances dried up when Mugabe started purging the white settlers from their farms: Farm invasions took place in the turn of the Millennium because the White settlers inadvertently started to support the newly formed opposition party: MDC. Mugabe was so enraged by this betrayal he never expected from them; he went for them in the style; killings he knew better. So many peoples of Mashonaland died in the farm invasions together with some white farmers who were brutally dispossessed of their farmlands.
Farm invasions were so brutal, people were burnt alive in their huts while sleeping. They were called all sorts of names by the farm invaders: traitors, totem less people. Some were beaten to death; some went to the hospitals with burnt scars, burnt by either the use benzine flames or boiling water. The killings were so gruesome, it is all documented how Mugabe and Zanu PF, when it was confronted with losing power, they would use punitive brutality to anyone regardless of ethnic affiliation and race.

As if it was not enough: Murambatsvina witnessed so many peoples of Shona tribe or ethic group affected by Zanu PF government action that targeted the newly formed opposition MDC party that had won a referendum in year 2000. Some scholar Mamdani’s article on Murambatsvina says: “the number of deaths of people as a result of Murambatsvina could be higher than Gukurahundi atrocities of the 1980s.” Thousands of people (about three quarters of a million people) of all ethnic groups and their livelihoods were made homeless in all towns and cities of Zimbabwe and the brutal government of Zimbabwe cared less.

As if its was not enough: come 2008 harmonised elections. This time around, the people who were murdered were the peoples of Mashonaland exclusively. They were maimed, hacked to death, women were raped in the same style as the Gukurahundi time. All this was long prophesied by Joshua Nkomo. Nkomo said violence begets violence. Violence is a scourge an evil that should never be glorified by any civilized society for whatever reason.

As if it was not enough: come harmonized elections in 2018. Yet again, the people who were shot by the army where people who had nothing to do with demonstrations but happened to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time. They were all peoples of Mashonaland. In January 2019, when the Trade Union demonstrated against the failing government of Dambudzo Mnangagwa, again 19 people were shot dead. This again happened in Harare and most of those who were randomly killed were peoples from Mashonaland.

When we follow up these historical events marred by discordance at the hands of Zanu PF we do so to put Zanu PF culture of violence and their patterns on the spot. We are saying, this party can even devour its own to remain in power. The people of Mashonaland indeed have learnt hard facts about Zanu PF. This government is as brutal to its own people in as much as it is brutal to the people of Matabeleland. Both these ethnic groups; be it Shona or Ndebele and the white population, we all smell like goats and hence we can be devoured using those methods Zanu PF knows best. We need to ask ourselves serious questions: Where is Comrade Itai Dzamara? Let’s ask ourselves again how Dr. Edgar Madekurozva died in Zambia in the mid-1970s. Comrade Madekurozva was forced to dig his own grave, was thrown inside the grave having been struck by the same pick he dug his own grave with. This is Zanu PF for you.

In retrospect, it is with “great sadness” that this country was won with the use of force. The liberation struggle gave birth to independence. The war was not won outrightly in the battlefields but by negotiations as the Front-Line-States were paying the highest price for their support of the liberation of Zimbabwe and South Africa. I am deliberately using the words: “with great sadness” and by that, I mean when violence is used as a corrective, it will one day come back and hound that society sooner or later. Remember Karma Law!! The liberation struggle was a noble war consciously done to take back what belongs to the blacks by right. However, this very corrective violence used to liberate the countries in southern Africa has manifested itself int other forms of violence: state violence, structural violence and several other societal violence.

What we experience today in is the blazing embers of violence and its manifestations. We see a myriad of influences on violence in our history and is a direct threat to social, economic and political development and has even torn the fabric of our societies in Zimbabwe. Not to mention the destruction of human lives, especially women and children are most vulnerable in societal uncertainties such as ethnic conflicts and civil demonstrations. When a government uses violence as a corrective, like what Zanu PF does, it endorses violence, has always endorsed violence that has permeated in every aspect of our lives becoming a culture.

However, the predictability of violence makes it possible to address it if there was a democratic government in place.

Police Officer Seeks Revenge By Requesting S_ex From The Wife Of The Man Sleeping With Own Wife

By A Correspondent- In the wake of discovering that his wife of 12 years has been cheating on him and probably reeling from a storm of emotions, a Bulawayo man took the bold but rather unusual step when he decided to revenge by allegedly demanding se_x from the wife’s lover’s wife.

A deeply hurt Tarirai Chimutwe, a police officer stationed at Hillside Police Station in Bulawayo, incensed that his wife Ronica Chikaanwa, was being “sampled” by Soul Chandigere, decided to retaliate by also seeking a tryst with his (Chandigere)’s wife only identified as Mai Tino.

To Chimutwe time will be the best answer to heal his broken heart, after Chandigere’s wife allegedly turned down his se_x demands.

In a fit of pique, Chimutwe started insulting Chandigere’s wife claiming her husband left her for his wife because she was not bathing and was also boring in bed.

In an emotional response, Chandigere’s wife hit back while bragging that she was now madly in love with another man who was satisfying her adding that her husband was also terrible in bed.

She went on to mock Chimutwe saying his wife and his alleged girlfriends were also leaving him because he had a small “bedroom gun” that is not good enough to satisfy a woman.

Seeing that his revenge mission had hit a brick wall, Chimutwe then sued Chandigere for disturbing his peace by allegedly sleeping with his wife.

In his suit, Chimutwe whose wife’s cheating ways seem to be too much for him passionately pleaded with the court to stop Chandigere from sleeping with his wife.

In a more shocking confession, Chimutwe who stays at Ross Camp said Chandigere and his wife were always meeting at their matrimonial house in Cowdray Park for sex romps.

“I am applying for a peace order against Soul Chandigere who is my wife’s lover so that he stops abusing me by sending insulting messages. I also want the court to stop him from going to our matrimonial house in Cowdray Park where he often goes to sleep with my wife.

“He is also threatening that he will cause my wife to move out of Ross Camp to go and stay in Cowdray Park so that they will freely see each other without disturbances.

“He is also threatening me saying he is a spiritual man and will use his spiritual powers to separate me from my wife. On 29 December 2018 he also headbutted me when we met at Sekusile Business Centre. May the court bar him from going to my matrimonial house where he meets with my wife and has sexual intercourse,” begged Chimutwe while insisting that he still loves his wife despite the fact that she had cheated on him.

Chandigere, however, rubbished Chimutwe’s claims saying he was no longer in love with his wife.

“I did not assault him. He is the one who came together with five other people and attacked me while accusing me of being a thief. He also struck me with a stone.

“I am also no longer in love with his wife and I have never been to his matrimonial house. I, however, admit that I sent him the threatening messages because he was now proposing love to my wife,” responded Chandigere.

Chimutwe was plunged into deep emotional devastation when his application for a peace order was dismissed by the court.

Earlier this month Chimutwe was also shamed by his wife who claimed he forcibly grabbed her private parts before he repeatedly squeezed and pulled them so hard that she was left in excruciating pain and unable to go to the toilet for three days.

This was after his wife allegedly refused to have se_x with him and also as punishment against her for having affairs.-StateMedia
