Tsvangirai Unfit To Lead Coalition:Rugare Gumbo |By Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo|People First national spokesperson Rugare Gumbo says MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai does not qualify to lead the grand coalition of opposition parties expected to topple President Robert Mugabe from power in the 2018 plebiscite.
Gumbo who was in Masvingo last Saturday to meet the Masvingo Urban executive told reporters after the meeting Mujuru was the best candidate to lead the coalition -not Tsvangirai.
Gumbo said it was vital to come up with the grand coalition but was quick to say those who come to join People First should bear in mind the top post was occupied by Mujuru. He added if Tsvangirai and his party members intended to join Mujuru, they would be given other posts to occupy.
“We are quite clear on the issue of the coalition-yes it is very essential but let it be known that Mujuru is our leader and she will also lead the coalition.
There are no two ways about it.If Tsvangirai joins us ,he will be given something else to do but he will never lead the coalition and I tell you that will never happen.We can only consider him for other positions -that is if he decides to come to us,” said Gumbo.
The People First party is expected to mount a serious challenge for the presidency in 2018, although cynics still view the project as a Mugabe creation.
Gumbo boasted that if opposition parties did not join the People First in time. they would be rendered irrelevant in 2018.
“Those who seek political relevance must come to us in time because many people are dumping their respective parties to join us and we are going to officially launch the party by the end of the month,” said Gumbo.
Former Zanu PF provincial women’s league member Letwina Muparangi was introduced at the meeting following her defection from the ruling party.
Dzikamai Mavhaire, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti and Claudious Makova were among the senior party officials who attended the meeting.
Political observers say Gumbo’s sentiments are sadly contrary to the spirit of unity in the fight against dictatorship and oppression. Some political analysts feel Mujuru has not been weaned from the Mugabe ideology.

Lets hope Mai Mujuru reigns in on this type of talk from Gumbo that makes potential Voters question weather PF has been weaned from Zanu PF or not.Many people are still having problems trusting PF coz we still suspect that they have not and cannot let go of their Zanu PF Tendencies.So Gumbo must be careful how he presents himself coz this kind of talk could push away potential PF voters like myself.We want Authenticity in opposition and not 2 faced habits.I Hope to engage you in a healthy discussion sir without any insults or curses.Like I said I am following PF and want to support them from my Diaspora base,but the kind of talk from Gumbo is off putting.

Cde tswangirai, has proven that he is not capable of dislodging zanupf, fairly or unfairly. As they say it’s only the results that counts, further more the voters are also former zanupf members, they might continue to vote zanupf as before. However they might consider to go with mujuru and people first. Until then we won’t know, would we?, but tswangirai has declared that he would not want to be led by a woman. I think people first would be fine without Tswangirai, look at how many group came out of his stewardship, within ten years, Mutamba, Biti, Mangoma, mabena and now chamisa the the man is allergic to unity. So he can do what he wants. Every zimbabwean is free to join us or not to. People first.

No problem with that, but let’s operate first with what is already there, it’s not like people first does not exist. Regeneration and lauching are legal and compliance obligations, but the party have been active for over a year. The rest should wait until 2018. That is the target we all need to take a step back and relax before we get ambitious. Join the people help recruit members win the elections first. Then you can start looking for your teacher from binga to lead people first. This time we need people with a purpose, a strategy, a plan to win in 2018. So the best way is Munhu wese kunamayi Mujuru. That is a strategy, ideology and power politics, will not win the elections. Unfortunately, unless if you want Zanupf and Grace to be your next president.

If the people choose a Binga Primary school teacher, their wish have to be respected because you are entering the fray in the pretext of people being first. Such kind of utterances then gives the undecided voters the conviction that people first is similar to ZANU, and given a second chance, you will re-join ZANU. Remember we are dealing with people who did not resign from ZANU despite their eyes open when the killings were done in 2008 ,massacres in Chiadzwa, collapsing of the economy and general misrule and human rights abuses. People must follow events, it is Tswangirai, who started to attack people first. Remember a few weeks ago he came out saying, how can he be expected to join hands with a party led by a woman. That was a personal attack on mujuru and insinuating that he can only join if he is leader as he can not be led by a woman.
