DISTURBING IMAGES, But Police Say Gays Were Not Assaulted

The police have turned down a robbery and assault report which the Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe have made.
The police report arose from the violent invasion by over 12 roudy assailants last week at a party the organization was having in Harare.
The incident saw more than 35 members of the gay community being severely assaulted by the gang.
The injured were rushed to a private hospital where they were treated and discharged.
On Christmas day GALZ went to Milton Park police station  and made  a formal report of robbery and assault  (RRB 2296392)  which was later dismissed by the police on reasons that an organization cannot be assaulted.
A legal practitioner, Tonderai Bhatasara who is also a member of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights representing GALZ confirmed that ‘my clients were advised to make individual reports’.
“The police insisted that the members should come forward individually and make the formal police report. They have since done that and we are now waiting for the police to do their job”,said Bhatasara. “They took with them medical reports as part of the evidence that they were indeed assaulted,” he added.
GALZ could not however reveal the total amount and quantity gadgets which they said were stolen by the assailants.

You seem to want to justify the existence of gays. Some things are too obvious man. If you are known to be a cannibal, it becomes obvious you eat human flesh. If you are known to be a Pastor,it becomes obvious you minister the Word of God. If you are known to be gay, its as well obvious you indulge in sodomy. Where do we need an ‘academic’ argument here?

  9. Look, most of these guys are open about who they are e.g Miles Tenhure because they know and understand that it’s within their rights. In Zim, you will only be arrested for homosexuality if you are caught in the act of sodomy. They have been arresting these guys and letting them off since the 90s because most of the time there just wouldn’t be evidence of sodomy. I don’t see the contradiction that you are pointing to. To cut the matter short, read the constitution, if you find anything they were doing illegal at their party, I sure will be interested in knowing.

  12. Dude if you walk around saying you are a homosexual, you are not committing a crime, but if you penetrate or are penetrated anally then it’s a crime. Check the constitution, it’s easy to put emotions, cultural and religious reasoning when dealing with the issue of homosexuality but we forget we have a secular constitution. Why do you think Bob hasn’t been able to pull them out of the Book Fairs since 1995 or why has GALZ been existence since 1990? It’s because of the way our constitution is structured. It’s not as homophobic as you think. Next time you want to argue with me, argue from an academic standpoint please. For your info, I don’t support homosexuality, but I also don’t support ignorance

  18. You are wrong, in Zim identifying as a homosexual is not illegal, what is illegal is the act of sodomy. The article does not say they were practicing sodomy so according to Zims constitution, they were breaking no law. I don’t like homosexuality, but these guys didn’t deserve the bashing they got.

  25. Help me. is GALZ registered. ? But new constitution does not legalise Gays and Lesbians activities. So they report the cases as individuals and not as GALZ. What a contradiction.
