ZIFA Board President Cuthbert Dube has suspended eight board members and councillors in a move interpreted as revenge for a vote of no confidence that was passed on him last month.
In a board meeting held today at the ZIFA Village in Mt Hampden, Dube suspended his deputy, Omega Sibanda, Northern Region Secretary General Sweeney Mushonga, Benard Gwarada, Willard Manyengavana, Elizabeth Langa, Musa Mandaza, Piraishe Mabhena, Dennis Chuma and Felton Kamambo.
Mushonga confirmed that he has been suspended.
Last month, ZIFA councillors passed a vote of no confidence in Dube but FIFA told them to hold an extra-ordinary congress within 60 days to validate their process.
Some ZIFA councillors, who spoke to the ZBC News, however said since then, Dube and ZIFA CEO, Jonathan Mashingaidze have been out to revenge the move by victimising all those who were involved in the coup.
It is not clear how valid is Dube’s decision as the ZIFA constitution has been tempered with and its clauses are no longer clear.
Dube and Mashingaidze allegedly want to move the annual general meeting to some time in August to buy time to reorganise and clean up the ZIFA Council.
