Picture By Chrispen Tabvura” frame=”true” icon=”image” caption=””] Bulawayo-In what the party says is a way of strengthening the entity, the MDC-T leadership here has postulated new rules for members that they should sign their lives off through a Death Contract that strips them the right to take their party to court for anything.
The contract announced by senior Organising official Abednico Bhebhe strips from them the constitutional right of getting protection from the courts thus barring them from resorting to the judiciary in the event that there is a dispute of any kind.
Sources close to the party hierarchy who refused to be identified, told ZimEye.com the new rules are already taking form and shape but causing a lot of conflict within the party structures, although the Spokesperson Obert Gutu at the time of writing discounted them down to mere proposals.
The development has caused much disaffection with members attacking and saying that party leader Morgan Tsvangirai does not listen. “We have been telling Tsvangirai of all these problems but he turns a blind eye, on important issues to do with the survival of the party. Last time we warned him that his most close and trusted man (Name Withheld) was a CIO but he ignored. We do not want to point fingers at him that he has become a ZANU PF member in defacto, but he has become a liability like Robert Mugabe,” said an irate member.
Another source who works closely with the National MDC leadership, also blamed Morgan Tsvangirai for paying attention to petty issues leavng those that affect the growth of the party. Tsvangirai has been busy dining and partying with Mugabe’s CIOs and has been rewarded with a wife and house in the plash suburb, while the povo are suffering from abuse,” said the visibly angry security member.
“When MDC split in 2005, Bhebhe joined hands with Welshman Ncube, and now he is back to form a faction led by Thokozani Khupe, who is working closely with the dreaded Central Intelligence organisation, destroying the party from within,” said another senior member who also begged identity protection.
The MDC T has been rocked by splits and several conflicts after their humiliation and defeat by ZANU PF in the 2013 general elections, with Mangoma and Biti forming the Renewal Team that has also led into the formations of MDC Orange and Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe.
This reporter tried in vain to get comment from Bhebhe whose mobile phone kept ringing without answer by the time of going to press.
MDC T National spokesperson Obert Gutu told ZimEye.com that Bhebhe was the National Organising Senior member, whose office draws up ideas that build the party, so what he said was a proposal that is not yet adopted by the party.
“We haven’t yet received that communication from Bhebhe. If ever that is a proposal, then we are yet to see it, and we are a democratic party that gives every member a chance to propose ideas that can help the party’s strength,” said Gutu.
