Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo | In a typical movie style incident, a local herd boy who was madly in love with his boss’ wife last week eloped with the woman, leaving his employer in a fit of rage.
The herd boy ran away with his boss, Andrew Muchemwa’s wife to Makanda Village in Gutu.
Stunned by the incident Muchemwa pursued the two to the village where he torched a house belonging to one Lazarus Makanda, claiming he was concealing the two.
Muchemwa went berserk and axed Makanda’s neighbour before destroying vegetables in the nearby gardens.
He proceeded to burn down two other houses belonging to Thomas Makanda and one Chirumanzu respectively.
“People are now fearing for their lives because Muchemwa does not care if you are involved or not. He destroyed vegetables in our gardens claiming we were concealing his wife. He also torched three houses saying he would not stop until we tell him where his wife was. The whole village is being tormented by the jilted man – such that we are having sleepless nights here,” said a villager who declined to be named.
The herd boy and Muchemwa’s wife are said to have fled to Harare, although some villagers claim the two are still in Gutu.
Acting Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector, Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident but could not divulge further details.
“We have received a report about malicious damage to property and the suspect is Andrew Muchemwa. We are currently looking for him .We are yet to establish the cause of his strange behaviour,” said Dhewa.
