By Langton Ncube|Minister of State for Masvingo Province, Josiah Hungwe said Zanu PF will be assisted by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces to campaign in the next year’s general election.

Hungwe was quoted by a Masvingo based newspaper TellZim, telling his party’s Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting in Masvingo that soldiers would assist his party to campaign ahead of the 2018 polls .

The provincial affairs minister’s statement is against tenants of the holding of  free and fair elections in any country.

Responding to minister Hungwe’s  statement, the Election Resource Centre (ERC) said Zanu PF should respect and observe the neutrality of ZDF as  mandated by the constitution of Zimbabwe.

“ Ahead of the 2018 elections, it is important to ensure principles of transparency, freedom of speech and impartiality are maintained. In addition, as a signatory to the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections, ERC urges the Government of Zimbabwe to ensure that a peaceful environment is maintained that would enable citizens of Zimbabwe to exercise their constitutional right to vote without fear or intimidation,” said ERC.

“ The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to ensure political observe neutrality and promote free, fair and credible elections  and also that the Zimbabwe Defense Forces must maintain non-partisan role during the electoral processes,” said ERC.

  2. I totally agree with you. The old donkey is just reckless. I wish mukoma George Charamba could retrieve one of his articles that he wrote under Nathaniel Manheru, advising the then newly appointed VP Mnangagwa to be careful with people like Josiah Chasura Hungwe. This was after Chasura had suffocatingly passed air, as his name implies, blasphemously likening ED to Jesus Christ. Mukoma George aptly advised ED that people like Chasura do not add value to him. Instead, they diminsh his stature as national leader. They demote him to a position of a tribal headman. Of what national value is this stinking skunk called Chasura?

  3. The army has been campaigning for Zanu since time 1980, now they have come out in the open . Lets see , but at the end of the day , the people will decide not the barracks

  4. Let him continue on his warpath to undo Zanu Pf he is exactly doing the opposite of what he thinks is achieving. On a sad note how can lunatic who display such idiocy be made a minister of such an iconic province, it’s an insult to the entire province.

  5. He is a stupid old man with no political clout and has to wag his tail for his bones. On the other hand, who is in charge, If I may ask? The army is and will do everything in their power to make sure it remains that way.

    Only this time they won’t be needing any violence. Tswangirai is dying, biti is clueless and Joyce will have to wait her turn. I rest my case.

  6. Hungwe i Mhata yemunhu sure how can the army help Zanu PF to campaign, soja ndere nyika and not for zanu pf ok, toda kuzviona izvozvo next year
