Workers at Masvingo Provincial Hospital have defied the First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’ s call to scrap maternal fees.
Defiant workers at the biggest hospital in Masvingo have said saying they are unaware of call to scrap maternal fees despite Mrs Mnangagwa’ s visit to the health centre two weeks ago.
As a result expecting mothers have been forced to deliver at their respective homes due to the prohibitive maternal fees.
“As long as we have not received the communication in writing, I am afraid we will not be in a position to assist.
Is Mrs Mnangagwa a government official? So we cannot take verbal instructions from her,” said an admistrator who declined to be named.
Masvingo Provincial Medical Director, Amadeus Shamhu could not be reached for a comment.
