By Paul Nyathi| Veteran Career politician Kudakwashe Bhasikiti made a shock appearance at the MDC Alliance coalition rally in Gweru on Sunday declaring his loyalty to Alliance and MDC-T leader Nelson Chamisa.
Bhasikiti is a former ZANU PF central committee member and parliamentarian and was dismissed from the party in 2014 for suspected disloyalty to then party leader Robert Mugabe.
On being dismissed he joined the then newly formed Joice Mujuru led Zimbabwe People First party before Mujuru dismissed him again for disloyalty.
Bhasikiti went on to lead a splinter Zimbabwe People First with Agrippa Mutambara where he was also dismissed for the same allegations.
Early this year, Bhasikiti appeared at a ZANU PF Masvingo Provincial rally pleading to be re-admitted into the party claiming that he wanted back in the party following the removal of Mugabe who he claimed hated him.
While the party was still monitoring his rehabilitation, Bhasikiti made a shocking appearance at the MDC Alliance coalition rally claiming new loyalty to Chamisa.
Addressing the crowd, Bhasikiti said that ZANU PF long died as a party and what is running the country now is not ZANU PF but just the Lacoste Faction of the party.
“ZANU PF is no more,” he said. “What you see now is Lacoste not ZANU PF.”
“All those who want to vote for ZANU PF are not going to vote for Lacoste but will vote for Chamisa,” he said amidst loud cheers from the huge crowd.
Asked on the presence of Bhasikiti at the rally, MDC Alliance coalition spokesperson Welshman Ncube said that as far as they know Bhasikiti is a member of the Mutambara led Zimbabwe People First a coalition partner.
“We know Bhasikiti as a member of the Mutambara led Zimbabwe People First which is one of our coalition partners and so we can not refuse to accept him when he presents himself to our setup,” said Ncube.
