By Talent Gondo| The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has called on all those in possession of firearms either lawfully or illegally to surrender them to police stations countrywide for verification.

CID Acting Spokesperson, Detective Assistant Inspector Portia Chinho made the call in a statement issued today.

Detective Assistant Inspector Chinho said the verification exercise was necessary as circumstances had changed for some of the licence holders.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police, Criminal Investigation Department, is calling for all holders of firearms either lawful or illegal to surrender them to police stations for the verification exercise,” she said.

Detective Assistant Inspector Chinho’s call comes a few days after the CID and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) exchanged gunfire with armed robbers in Marlborough, Harare in a shootout which left one of the robbers seriously injured.
