By Paul Nyathi|A predatory crocodile on Monday tore a Binga fisherman into two parts fleeing with the lower part of the body to devour it in underwater.
The remains of the man’s lower body were recovered from inside the crocodile’s belly by villagers after a chase if the reptile. The upper body was retrieved from inside the river.
The late Passmore Phiri was whisked into the might waters of the Zambezi River while fishing in the company of Magwiro Ncube (49) and sixteen year old Last Sibanda.
Eye witnesses reported that the trio proceeded to the ZINWA Harbour along the Zambezi River where they used a canoe to row to an island, about 200 metres from the river bank where they were attacked by the crocodile.
Matabeleland North acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Eglon Nkala confirmed the incident.
“We continue to warn fishermen to be careful and alert when near water bodies. If possible, they should avoid croc-infested areas along the Zambezi River,” he said.
