Controversial Masvingo State Minister Josaya Dunira Hungwe has revealed the reason for the withdrawal of Geiger International’ s Road Dualisation Tender.

Hungwe told reporters in Masvingo on Monday the company was deeply reluctant to allow the government to monitor its programmes – including financial records.

“We had serious problems with the Austrian company Geiger International- we were not allowed to monitor their programmes,” said Hungwe.

He added: “There were delays in the implementation of the project because we were not given time and space to monitor the company’ s activities.

We will not allow that to happen again. How can we work with people who are not at liberty to disclose their programmes and plans?”
