The expelled former MDC Deputy President Thokozani Khupe never reported her former boss to the police over the alleged violence at the late Morgan Tsvangirai’s burial in February.
This has been confirmed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi.
Khupe did not even open a police case against the youths she says assaulted her, “with stones.”
Speaking in February, Khupe said, “they beat us with stones, umbrellas and any items they could lay their hands on. They called us dissidents saying we should go back to Matabeleland. It was me, Douglas Mwonzora, Abednico Bhebhe, Lwazi Sibanda, and several other people. One stone hit me on my back. I am in pain as I speak right now.
“One man asked us to go into his hut. Those thugs threatened to burn the hut but we were lucky that it was raining and so the thatch could not catch the fire. They threw a burning log into the hamlet. If it was not rain, we were going to die. But I went back to attend the funeral to make sure that he (Tsvangirai) was laid to rest.”
In the latest development however, Nyathi is quoted by NewsDay saying Thokozani Khupe is still to file an assault report following her alleged assault at the burial of the late MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai in Buhera.
Nyathi said he had checked with all police stations.
He said, “police have since checked with relevant stations and established that Dr Khupe never made a report. In this case, without a complaint, it is difficult for police to conduct comprehensive investigations.”
In another dramatic twist, it has emerged Nyathi’s colleague, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba has told journalists that police were still investigating the matter.
She told journos on Monday that the people who committed the offence were not originally from Buhera.
Khupe’s Personal Assistant, Mr. Witness Dube yesterday confirmed his boss did not report the alleged assault.
He said she was never going to report violence by youth, who clearly were (allegedly) acting on orders of Nelson Chamisa.
