By Paul Nyathi|President Emmerson Mnangagwa sneaked out of the country late Sunday to neighbouring South Africa with government sources claiming he had gone for “medical check ups”
While his spokesman George Charamba was not available for comment, sources said of a truth the head of State was “out of the country Sunday evening for medical check ups.”
His motorcade was spotted arriving at Robert Mugabe International Airport late Sunday evening.
This is not the first time Mnangagwa has flown out of the country unnoticed and 4 months ago Lanseria airport confirmed to ZimEye.com he has used a private jet, Flight EXD015. ZimEye quizzed why the flight was not showing up on the flight tracking database and the source replied saying, “what website are you using looking at?… You won’t find that flight there, there is no reason why it will be on that website, because that is not a scheduled flight.”
“It is just a private that came from Harare,” the source added.
Meanwhile in the latest case, other sources said Mnangagwa will be back in the country on Monday.
Another source claimed that Mnangagwa is in South Africa for routine check ups following the so called “poisoning incident” in November last year. The development also came as the state media made claims that Mnangagwa ate ice-cream deliberately laced with poison, during the events that eventually led to Robert Mugabe’s removal last year.
The claims of ice cream have however been dismissed by the president himself. Health Minister, Dr. David Parirenyatwa says Mnangagwa suffered from gastroentitis, while the man himself says he never ate ice cream.
But the state broadsheet says Mnangagwa was poisoned.
