The opposition failed to make inroads into Zanu PF strongholds and lost the July 30 polls, National People’s Party Spokesperson Jeffryson Chitando said at the weekend.
Below is Chitando’s assertion:
When I visited Masvingo ZEC offices in May I got the
following figures of registered voters (rounded off to
the nearest thousands):
1)Masvingo 115 000
2)Chiredzi 110 000
3)Gutu 85 000
4)Zaka 75 000
5) Mwenezi 67 000
6)Bikita 67 000
7)Chivi 63 000
At that time Chiredzi North had 44 000 registered
voters.I posted an article indicating that Chiredzi North would
wipe out the opposition dominance in Gutu and Masvingo
Districts. I also pointed out Mwenezi and Chivi
would determine the Presidential election winner in Masvingo
Province.
I suggested that any opposition Presidential
candidate who wanted to win must literally camp in
Chiredzi,Mwenezi and Chivi .I also pointed out that
having rallies in Masvingo Urban,Chiredzi
Urban,Bikita and Zaka was good but that would not neutralise
Zanu PF’ s dominance.
I also suggested that having rallies in Chilonga,Chikom
bezi,Malipati,Gezani,Chomuruvati,Chikofa,Mara
nda,Matibi, and any other venues in highly populated
Chiredzi North would be a political advantage to the opposition.
