By Paul Nyathi|Police in Bulawayo refused to sanction the much awaited Premier Soccer League match between Highlanders and Dynamos as they are not yet ready to handle the Highlanders fans ZimEye.com is reliably informed.
Sources within the police in Bulawayo indicated that the match was called off by the PSL on instructions from the police who claimed that they do not have adequate personnel and equipment to handle the usually volatile Highlanders fans at Barbourfields stadium in Bulawayo.
“Most police officers and equipment from the support unit at Fairbridge who normally man the Highlanders matches are still deployed out especially in Harare where the situation has not been declared stable following the post election violence,” said the source.
PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said they acted on a directive from their superiors.
“The match was cancelled for logistical reasons. I cannot comment further than that,” she said.
PSL last week postponed all the league matches following the violent incidents that rocked the post-election period in Harare.
The league had also shelved matches the previous week.
Police always have a handful against Highlanders fans especially when the Bulawayo giants clash with their perennial rivals Dynamos.
