By Own Correspondent| Sanctions effected on Zimbabwe by the British through ZIDERA have no effect on farming and productivity, Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri has said.

Shiri said farmers should not use sanctions as an excuse for low productivity adding that sanctions had nothing to do with farming and productivity.

The agriculture minister said because farmers had other resources such as water and land which have nothing to do with sanctions, the onus rested on them to maximise on production.

He urged them to take advantage of existing opportunities in farming and  generate foreign currency from exports.

Said Shiri:

“Sanctions have nothing to do with our farming and productivity so we should free ourselves in that sector.

We can perform better even when we have sanctions. We have land, water and other resources that would enable us to enhance productivity.

Shiri also said there are a lot of opportunities in farming that farmers need to take up to generate foreign currency from exports.
